One of my favorite things about Marluxia's design from Kingdom Hearts is that, despite his flowery bishonen attributes, he's still a very large and intimidating guy. I especially appreciate that they did not make his face snd chin look thin, which I feel is way too typical for most pretty boy characters.

Pink hair and ephemeral flower motif doesn't change the fact that his build is close to Xemnas.

Lord of the castle, indeed.

Again, the prying is concerning. But, fine. You all clearly know more than you should, let me answer this sincerely.

Marluxia is a... complicated matter, in my opinion. He's strong, and he's incredibly skilled with his words. I think leadership comes naturally to him. Had things been different, I wouldn't have had anyone else lead the mission. My thoughts on him on an interpersonal level don't matter.

But, he isn't trustworthy. I don't understand his motives, and maybe, had he explained them to me, I'd have been more understanding. His sneaking around and refusal to explain himself makes him unfit for a role that traitors have no place in. I wanted to understand him from the day he arrived. He was promising. But, he's always kept things hidden from us.

If anyone had to lead, if we couldn't have simply deferred to Xemnas himself somehow, I think Lexaeus would have done well. He's not one for talking at length, but he's trustworthy. No one would doubt his intentions when giving orders.

If you expected me to groan and cry that I should have led that den of traitors, defer to the tale of the Bear and the Unicorn. I know better.

another thing i find interesting is how some, not all, of the placements in real organization are definitely purposeful- like how xion takes roxas' number 13, saïx takes axel's number 8, but i do really like how vanitas takes marluxia's number 11.

it's simply interesting to dwell on the two of them together considering that vanitas stems from the young boy lauriam used to look after. there's the horror that ventus has been horrifically split and that this is the festering half of what came from him. he's far different from ventus. and he is not ventus in appearance or mind - he is so horrifically different. there's no way to determine if vanitas holds any memories of ventus', but you could start to wonder how it would feel to see and meet lauriam as marluxia. as the boy vanitas now.

in fact, one of the things i've always kept in the back of my head is how curious it would be to see Either ventus or vanitas meet marluxia face-to-face again, as the man he became today. lord of the castle, naminé's captor, the one who tried to manipulate and crush sora - there's many things that allude that the events of chain of memories will be called back on in KH4, so i'm incredibly nosy about just what perspective or way nomura is going to go about it.

One Villainous Scene - The Lord Of Castle Oblivion

Ah, Chain of Memories. In spite of the imperfect card based combat, this game was a nice sequel to the OG Kingdom Hearts, purely because of the story and the official introduction of Organization XIII, or at least 6 of its members. Still out of all six members, I found myself enjoying the Big Bad, the androgynous grim reaper, and Lord of Castle Oblivion himself, Marluxia. Outside of the charming and ruthless Axel, this man was enjoyable to watch.

At the start of the game, he has his hood up and acts like a full on enigma rather than someone actively trying to hurt Sora, but when we see him again his face is shown and he's outright threatening Vexen using his status as Castle Oblivion's lord without raising his voice. From there, we slowly see that this man is not only crueler than he lets on, he gaslit Namine into helping him turn Sora into a weapon via memory erasure, just so he can take over The Organization. All of this done by a tyrant with a graceful and beautiful exterior.

So by the time we reach the finale, everything we've witnessed from Marluxia's character comes through. He starts off with such self-assurance, totally confident he'll achieve his victory that he suggests that Namine should destroy Sora's heart entirely so he can just remake him from the ground up. However he's displeased when Namine refuses to do so, only to be caught off guard by Sora telling her that it would be alright. Marluxia calls Sora a fool before explaining exactly what having his heart destroyed would entail, until he is attacked by the Riku Replica, who has basically figured out that his life is a lie. Yet despite knowing this, Repliku is still willing to protect Namine.

Marluxia, the calm and graceful mastermind behind this entire scheme, gets the closest he could ever be to being truly angry. He sees Sora's desire to still hold onto his bond with Namine to be foolish. He claims that the boy is shackling his heart to a "chain of memories born of lies," and is casting aside his hearts freedom. Then, with such unbridled arrogance he calls Sora's heart weak, and has full confidence that he couldn't be beaten by this weak little fool.

Then we discover that he wasn't truly there, but rather a copy of himself was. However the real Marluxia was listening in, and if Namine wasn't going to destroy Sora's heart, he'd do it himself.

So, Sora goes to confront the lord inside of his quarters, and confronts the truly mixture of elegance and ugliness that is Marluxia. First he faces as a totally different breed of monster from a heartless, and once that form is defeated, Marluxia is back to his normal self, but now both he and Sora are in a vast void, atop a gigantic airship with a near-angelic guardian standing right behind him. He uses everything in his arsenal to try and take down Sora, and in the end... this bastard is still defeated. Then whatever remaining grace he had just fades away as he dies SCREAMING.

At the end of the day, despite all of the flair, all of his mystique from the beginning of the game, and his calm and composed attitude, Marluxia was just a power-hungry monster. Yet despite being a simple villain, motive-wise, he's effective in all the right ways, and that makes himself unforgettable.

Marluxia put Sora to sleep with a hand motion in the Kingdom of Corona I might be looking at it too deeply and it literally could just be the Castle Oblivion powers and the control he had over Sora while he was Lord of the castle. His words to Sora before he knocks him out are “you always were a such a sound sleeper” and then Sora keels over, while there’s a distinct noise ringing in the background. I feel like it sounds just like the noise in Dream Drop Distance whenever Sora and Riku drop/switch places in gameplay. I love the attention to detail but I also have the suspicion it might be something more…. *eyes the 500 page Sleeping Realm Theory*

I don't remember if this was ever explained by the devs or in the Ultimania, but I always wondered if all of Organization XIII had the ability to do that or if Xemnas and Marluxia were just initially built different.

How powerful of a nobody do you have to be to create an a giant creature out of your own shell of a body. How strong a will do need to have to be able to go from mostly human, to an Eldritch God with multiple forms.

Marluxia was strong enough for Xemnas to acknowledge him well enough to make him Lord of Castle Oblivion, despite being a fairly recent addition to the Organization (technically it was a trap set up by Saix and Axel, but still...).

And to add more spice to this post, I'd like to remind everyone familar with the lore that Xigbar (AKA LUXU) was the one that found and recruited him, which makes you wonder if him finding Marluxia was truly a coincidence or planned.

Other possibility of the Lauriam and Ven travel together AU so like a different branch if you will.

I personally love the theory that Kairi's grandma is master ava (I also make Lea Kairi's older brother and a keyblade wielder already I love tragic siblings what can I say) so when Lauriam gets blasted off he ends up in Radiant Garden and meets up with his old master.

Ava has tried to live a peaceful quiet life and so when she has a daughter she purposely didn't make her a keyblade wielder, teach her about light and darkness or the keyblade war. She wanted her daughter and by extension grandson to live in peace. However things go wrong when she's pregnant with Kairi and goes into labor. Her pure light attracts all sorts or heartless and darkness trying to snuff Kairi's light before she's born. Ava has no choice but to fend off the attack leaving a 12 year old Lea to be midwife and deliver his sister. Unfortunately the strain of the attack and darkness trying to extinguish light means his moms light get taken instead. Her heart passes moments later. Ava blames herself, had she not let fear take hold in her heart perhaps her daughter would have been able to fend off the darkness and not leave her children orphaned. After checking over kairi Ava realizes she's one of the 7 pure lights and realizes in despair she'll be hunted down by darkness. With little choice she tells Lea about her past and begins training him do he can protect his sister.

Lauriam shows up not long after. He fills Ava in on what's happened and the two start piecing things together. Ava realizes MoM orchestrated all this and she was too blind to see the red flags. She promises to help find Ven and properly train Lauriam.

Lauriam becomes a master in those 4 years and looks high and low for Strelitzia and Ven as well as any of the fore tellers and Xehanort but they all seem to be hidden well. He starts hearing rumors of 3 keyblade wielders traveling the worlds and tries to track them down but he's just one step behind.

Lea is getting ready to take his own mark of mastery, he and Lauriam have formed a close friendship, he remind him of Ven and watching Lea take care of Kairi reminds him of being his own sisters caretaker.

By the time Lauriam makes it to the keyblade graveyard the battle is over. Frustration builds he doesn't understand why all his loved ones are out of his reach.

Over the next year he hears Lea and Isa talk about a girl and hope flares that maybe it's skuld. But before he can properly investigate xehanort plunges the world into darkness. Ava teller Lauriam to take the kids and run while she holds off the heartless but even he knows she'll be overwhelmed. He tells Lea and Isa to take Kairi (sadly their 3 fates are sealed) and run but he ends up running into Luxu, same thing happens as before Luxu has been keeping an eye on Lauriam waiting for the right moment and now here it is. He doesn't beat him in a fight Lauriam is much stronger here but he leads Lauriam to think Ven is tied up in the basement. He desperately goes to find him but it's a trap and gets attacked by terranort. As he's becoming a nobody all he can think about is how no matter how strong he gets it's never enough.

Marluxia has only one name in his head that he can remember, Ventus. He doesn't know why being around Roxas is familiar and painful. Being at CO however ironically stirs up his forgotten memories and while he can't find Ven hidden in the chamber he just knows he's there and suddenly understands why Xemnas sent half of them here. So Marluxia purposely plays the villain he doesn't trust himself to protect Ven this time and thinks being killed will be the better option. Sleeping away Ven's heart inside Sora responds to Marluxia making Sora very confused because he hates Marluxia but he also has a deep longing to be with the lord of the castle. Marluxia's final moments are praying Ven and the others are safe and silently apologizes for all his failures.

He has zero memories at the keyblade graveyard it's not until his second death does he remember and thanks sora for "protecting him when he could not" once again confusing sora.

MoM is watching all this and is like hmmmm that Ven and Lauriam maaaaaay be of use to the next phase of my plans. (He's such an asshole).

Basically what if Lauriam went to RG met up with Ava and even though he gets stronger it's still not enough and he's still chasing ghosts and being a step behind just a minute too late to make a difference.

Anon, if you're going to hurt me like this, I'd much prefer you come to my house and shoot me directly rather than torture me psychologically over tumblr asks.
