Starting the new year off by watching tales of the Jedi and andor and it is nice to be reminded that I still have Many Feelings and Star Wars hurts them all

To distract myself from my nerves about watching the bad batch later, ima watch some bsg and deal with the ongoing fallout instead

Yesterday’s episode of the bad batch was just excellent. Like best-of-the-clone-wars excellent. Small spoilers small spoilers: Those three brief shots of empty kamino almost had me in tears, oh man. That was such a clever move, filling the screen with emotional imagery that would trigger individual memories and feels that are unique for every fan. And this event brings so much depth to the early-empire era, the kind we’ve been waiting for, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

I think that perhaps, in our desire for a certain type of show and a certain type of pacing, we thought the bad batch felt aimless or low-stakes plot-wise. But now it seems clear that it was all moving in a direction that Dave has already long considered, at a speed that have been carefully decided. I mean he brought in an easter egg from rogue one for fucks sake. The man has had a detailed plan all along and he just stuck to his guns about it and took the time he wanted to take, and as of last night I’m very hopeful about it.

I just. Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie, and I think it’s the best of the OT. That’s a hill I will die on.

So even though I saw a tumblr gif of a hooded figure swinging a green saber in a cloud of smoke, even though that took away the element of surprise for this season finale... it still hit me right in the deepest core of my feels. I stopped breathing when I saw his xwing. And as soon as that little grainy silhouette appeared on the tiny surveillance screen, I found myself clapping and wailing, and spent the remainder of the episode with my hands clasped around my mouth, crying. When I saw that face, even though no computer can quite capture a human face perfectly, I still found myself letting out a sob.

This feels like the best thing to happen to the franchise since episode viii brought it back to the silver screen. Like this was the exact injection of pure, purposeful Star Wars content that a show which relied so heavily on cameos this season needed. The cameo to end all cameos, the one that made the others seem tawdry by comparison. I’ve literally never been so happy to see a computer generated face in my entire life. And maybe that’s just me, because I do love rotj so much, and so this to me was a reminder of the literal best things about Star Wars. It feels like a weight has been lifted off of my chest. And maybe for some this is like the cameo bridge too far, like come on. But for me, this put the mandalorian back on the map and made this whole season of references and cameos 100% worth it. It’s genuinely not something I thought they’d pull, and a risky stunt at that. But damn. It made all the difference. It brought the kind of effervescent, pure joy that I haven’t gotten form Star Wars in a little while, and if that isn’t the best gift of this shitty, tirefire of a year then I don’t know what is.

Finally got a minute to sit down and watch Bo Katan: Resurgence today’s ep of the mandalorian and boy fuckin howdy

As soon as the camera pans up to the docks and there’s mon calamari and quarren and the frog couple are finally reunited, I just started blubbering. Today sucked ass, and my whole brain was like “happy space amphibians” and it was all downhill from there

And BO KATAN and then Titus welliver bit an electric gin ball until it killed him but mostly KATEE FUCKIN SACKHOFF YALL. I did not manage to escape the spoilers today despite my best efforts, so my whole worry going in was that it wasn’t gonna be her but it was! It was!

Not to nitpick but that wig was AWFUL. Her headband was fuckin perfect though

Ok I’m watching these giant snow spider things attack the razorcrest, right, and my mother comes in and watches for a minute. Right as she does, the big momma spider is crashing on top of the ship, right, and you can hear, suddenly, blaster fire.

And my ass is like “hey! Sounds like xwing fire! They’re back!” My mother looks at me and I’m like “they’re like little spaceships”, distractedly, and she just keeps looking at me and I realize, as the xwings do finally make their appearance...

Oh god I know what their guns sound like. Oh god. Oh, that’s sad
