It's said that the only way to access Mhin's red choice is by choosing the Alchemist background, and that fact alone has me thinking about how the origin stories will actually impact the course of the game at full release. I wouldn't assume that you have to choose a certain origin to get a "good" or "bad" ending for a specific character, but (as stated by RSS directly) different origin stories will allow the main character to connect differently with each of the main five love interests.

Obviously, this isn't revolutionary, but I wanted to touch on which origins I think will be best suited for each route, based solely on scraps from the demo lol

For Kuras, I think the Alchemist and the Unnamed suit him the best. The former really comes from the fact that Ais' relationship chart suggests Kuras likes to ramble about alchemy, and because it has a lot to do with his role as a doctor, I would assume it opens up a lot of opportunities for him to connect with the Alchemist MC. I am more convinced of the latter based on the actual content of the demo. If you played the Unnamed origin, you may remember when the MC states that something about Kuras "nags" at them, "like a half-formed memory". This small line can obviously allude to Kuras not being human (and the Unnamed MC can pick up on it because of their sensitivity to the supernatural), or it could also imply that maybe this background gives the MC and Kuras a deeper sort of association with one another. I also encourage you to consider the dynamic of an excommunicated oracle in love with an excommunicated divine eldritch being.

It shocks no one that the Alchemist is probably the best route for Leander, and I maybe want to say the Hound could possibly be a good option in the future. The Alchemist can pinpoint exactly what about Leander's magic abilities makes him powerful, and obviously, this mutual connection will probably allow for plenty of unique interactions in his route. Sit on the fact that the MC had been mentored (manipulated) by an ex-Senobium mage, only to fall right back into the hands of another (pseudo-Senobium-affiliated) mage with sketchy intentions and big secrets... hmmm interestinggg... As for the Hound, I realize (admittedly upon limited playthroughs with this origin), that the dialogue never really changes for Leander's scenes. However, he is still an enigmatic socialite running a cult-gang, so surely the Hound will have some unique thoughts on Leander in his route and may eventually be able to see through this "nice guy" facade that Vere is so insistent he's parading around with? Just a thought.

As for my thoughts on Vere, I somehow have many and none at the same time. The one I'm pretty certain about is the Alchemist because they have unique dialogue acknowledging that Vere's collar is enchanted. I think the Hound may also work with his route, but I'm only basing that on the unique dialogue after the first encounter with Vere, wondering how he managed to pickpocket them without a sign, tell, or slip-up. The Hound has good social intuition, which is at least somewhat useful in dealing with Vere and his contradictory personality.

Ais comes naturally to the Unnamed, having an abundance of unique lines towards him more than the other characters. Not only does the Unnamed MC feel uneasy and hear unnatural sounds leading up to the Seaspring, but they also are the only one out of the three origins who has a distinct connection to "groupminds". The main character also notes that his tattoo (relating to Ocudeus) almost looks like it's moving. Similarly to Kuras, I like to think of the dynamic between a runaway ex-oracle crossing paths with a demonic being with cult-like worshipers... I predict the Hound will also suit Ais' route, based on how extensive their unique dialogue of Ais' natural leadership skills is. This origin is also the only one that actually details why his "gang leader" status contradicting the lack of an actual gang is so strange. The Hound comes from a more directly rugged life, and Ais takes an interest in the MC being feisty and defiant, so I'd guess that'll come into play somehow.

Back to square one on this whole overexplained talking point, Mhin obviously has some special connection to the Alchemist (or vice versa), if it wasn't obvious by the fact that Mhin's only red choice in the demo so far is only available with the Alchemist background. I think the Alchemist's unique connection to the Senobium through their mentor may come up, as Mhin's bio page says that they like the Senobium. The bio page also says they enjoy conducting alchemical experiments, which will connect the two even more. Once again, I think the Hound will also suit Mhin's route, based on little evidence and mostly just because Mhin and the Hound have similar vibes.

All of that said, I want to reiterate that I'm not under the impression that one origin will give you better or worse endings than the others, but rather unique choices and extra details based on their strengths. Regardless of how well one origin pairs with a LI, I will still probably be playing through each route with my own biased favorite (the Unnamed, if you were curious (I know you were not)). At the end of the day, it allows us to replay the game over and over to see what special changes and choices are available, so that will be very exciting.

Just a little palette cleanser after the wild day yesterday, and what I anticipate (might) be a pretty interestinggg week.

I want to add a few things as well:

I am not going to be talking about JD anymore unless we get SOLID confirmation something is going on with him and N. I can't stress this enough though (I WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY SHOCKED IF THEY WERE DATING). If you read between the lines just a little bit with the publicly available information regarding JD and what we know about N, you would understand why I have come to that conclusion. However, I am not going to specify about that anymore here, you are free to do some research though if you would like through SM. DO NOT LEAVE ANY COMMENTS THOUGH ON ANYONE'S PAGES, PLEASEEEEE.

I want to paint a little picture for you on what I think is going on (just a theory of course):

SOOOO many things played out on a VERY public stage for L/N during the PR tour for like 6 months. And they were NOT subtle about their feelings for each other, which is why a lot of us are still here on the ship. However, the situation was pretty messy BTS (particularly for L). I talked a lot about my theories on that here. Sooooo, I think L/N might have taken some space after the London premiere to process a lot of things, and I think things were quickly unraveling with A. The Italy bday trip bs was the last straw, there was a HUGE falling out of some sort, and L and N started talking/hanging out again and something shifted (in a positive way for us Lukola fans), and tbh this shift has probably been bubbling for a while. Then N proceeded to post all those L coded crumbs (and tbf, this man is ALL over her grid and L is okay with it apparently, she's been sending a message for a while if you put the full picture together). N has ALWAYS been private about this part of her life since being in the entertainment field, but for L, she isn't. Just think about that for a second. Why might this be? I'll let you come to your own conclusions on that... So how do the JD pics fit into all of this? Well, I think this theory sums up my thoughts pretty well. I think the pics served as a distraction to take the heat off of L (and L/N) because of all the hate and attention L is still getting because of his personal life. We know N is very protective of the people she cares about (and I think she REALLY loves L and knows he's going through a really hard time rn), and so she coordinated for the pics to be released early this week to get some of the attention off of him and onto her for a change. And JD is a good friend, so agreed to it, and will get some exposure from this which could help his career a little since he doesn't have the same level of "stardom" as N. I think the pics might have also served as a statement of sorts that a lot of the hate towards L was totally unwarranted and not justified. She can do something VERY similar to his "papgate", and not get the same type of hate. Lastly, I talked about my thoughts on a lot of the recent L coded crumbs from N here. My thoughts really haven't changed. N is VERY tuned in to the fandom, and wanted us to know about her mans y'all. If she was with someone else, she wouldn't have posted WHAT she has posted since the Italy bday trip. She can definitely be a little shady sometimes, but she is NOT cruel. Why would she kick him when he's down? She wouldn't! Sooooo, everything else we've seen the last week is kind of just smoke and mirrors imo.

One more thing, please remember to critically analyze all sources of information. Look at the FULL picture of everything before jumping to any conclusions.

I've had a lot of thoughts the last couple of days, so I wanted to get it all out. Just my thoughts of course, but I don't think there's any real reason to freak out right now.

Bakugou has been in rough spots before, but never one quite as irritating as this. A dimension-based quirk is already fucking annoying, but when the villain in control of it is an asshole, it’s even worse. He created a pocket dimension—a room with a big maze surrounding it—and put Bakugou in the center. To make matters worse, he just had to trap that damn Icy Hot bastard, too.

“We won’t get anywhere by blindly punching our way through walls,” he says in his irritatingly calm voice. “We only have twenty-four hours to get out, so we should go about this carefully and—“

“Shut your fucking face!” Bakugou snaps, whirling on him with a growl. “What the fuck is your problem, huh? Are you just going to stand there and let yourself die?”

“That’s not my intention, no.” Todoroki brushes soot from his face—leftover ash from the fight that landed them in here. “I just think this situation could use a bit more tact.”

“Tact my ass.” Bakugou turns back to the wall, reaching for the pin on his left gauntlet. “We need to get out of here, and tact isn’t gonna do shit.”

He should’ve known this asshole wasn’t going to be any help. While he’s standing here looking pretty and being useless, Bakugou is actually trying to save their lives. Even if how he goes about doing it is blowing holes in the walls. The villain told them they have to find the center of the maze by the time the twenty-four hours is over, or they’ll cease to exist. Which doesn’t sound fun. But hey, he never specified how they have to find the center.

“You really shouldn’t do that.” Someone speaks right into his ear, and Bakugou whacks his head against the wall when he jumps forward.

“Ow! What the fuck?” He turns, ready to scold Todoroki, but it isn’t him. It’s the villain, leaning against the wall with a smug smile. Bakugou lunges for him on instinct, but the bastard sinks into the wall and reappears a few feet away.

“Calm down there, Ground Zero. You don’t want something to happen to your little friend, now do you?”

“He’s not my fri— Wait, what did you say?” Bakugou pauses, whipping his head around to search for Todoroki. It’s true: he’s gone. “You bastard… What the fuck did you do with him?”

“Since neither of you were playing nice, I put him at a random passageway.” The villain waves his hand and a map of the maze appears on the wall, with a blinking chibi Todoroki intersecting one of the lines.

Part of Bakugou wants to laugh at the childish image, but he knows it’s a serious problem for them to be split up. Even if the villain is acting immature, there’s an underlying air of intelligence to him that sets Bakugou on edge. This guy knows what he’s doing.

“Fine. What do I have to do to play your damn game?”

“I’m glad you finally asked.” The villain disappears, his voice echoing in the empty room. “The maze is split into levels. You can’t go off the beaten path, and you must clear each level before moving to the next.” The picture of the maze fades away. “Your friend is on the third and final level, guarded by a boss. You have to clear every level to get to him.”

Bakugou’s brow twitches in irritation. “What is this, and MMORPG?”

There’s no answer: the villain is already gone. Fuck. This is going to be such a huge drag.

Bakugou has barely gotten through the first two floors by the time the twelve-hour mark rolls around. There’s a stupid monster at the intersection of each new corridor, and it’s starting to seriously piss him off. They’re not even that strong, but the constant use of his quirk is starting to exhaust him.

“Fuck.” Bakugou wipes sweat from his forehead, wincing as he flexes his sore hands. “Todoroki better still be alive or I’ll kick his damn ass.” Another monster surges out of the wall, and he blows it away without a second glance. “Now I’m really pissed.”

He lets his anger carry him through the first few corridors of the third and final level, ignoring the pain from overusing his quirk and the overwhelming smell of burnt sugar. That fucking villain is dead when he gets out of here.

Bakugou isn’t even sure why he’s so angry. Todoroki can take care of himself: they’re both heroes, after all. And if he was dropped in the third level, he’s that much closer to the exit, which is an advantage. Maybe he’s already fighting his way to the end to get them out of here. Maybe it’s the principle of the thing—of being trapped and having something held over his head.

Whatever the case may be, Bakugou is steaming by the time he gets to the next monster. It puts up little resistance, disappearing in a puff of pink smoke. There’s a door in the wall where it was standing. The exit? Thank fuck.

“Todoroki!” Bakugou kicks the door open, prepared to have to kill yet another ridiculous dungeon monster. But there’s nothing inside the room other than an unconscious Todoroki, who’s lying in a fucking glass coffin. Bakugou squeezes his eyes shut, but nothing has changed when he opens them again. Todoroki is still there, pristine, holding a bouquet of red-and-white roses in his clasped hands.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me,” Bakugou mutters, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Christ… There’s no way I’m kissing this asshole!” he yells to the air, knowing that dipshit villain is watching from somewhere. “No way in hell!”

“Oh yeah?” a voice rings from the walls. “Are you sure about that? Because if you don’t, you’ll both be wiped off the face of the earth in… let’s see… four hours, thirty-nine minutes, and seven seconds.”

“Fuck.” Bakugou kicks the nearest wall, but it doesn’t make him feel better. “Fuck,” he says again, quietly. This is by far the worst day of his life. Not necessarily the kissing Todoroki part, but everything that led up to it. Not that Bakugou wants to kiss him. Because he fucking doesn’t. But there’s no way around it, is there?

“You win,” Bakugou mutters to the empty air. He crosses the room to reach the glass coffin, pausing to look at Todoroki’s face. He seems so peaceful. And silent for once in his damn life. His hero costume is still singed around the collar and sleeves, and his hair is still messy from fighting. Still, somehow, he looks like he’s glowing.

The fact that he has to kiss him because a villain is telling him to is the only thing giving Bakugou pause. Fuck, it pisses him off. How does he even know the stupid game will end if he does this? This little twist wasn’t mentioned before: the villain could just keep throwing them into stupid situations until the clock runs out.

But he can’t know for sure, so he leans forward. It’s barely a brush of lips—because who makes out with someone unconscious?—but it still makes him incredibly uncomfortable. Mostly because of the tight, nervous pull in his stomach, but that isn’t important right now.

Todoroki’s face twists before he opens his eyes, slowly, one at a time, like it takes all the strength he has. “Where am I?” he murmurs, using Bakugou’s arm to help himself sit up—without permission, the bastard. “What happened?”

“You let yourself get spirited away like the huge dipshit you are,” Bakugou grumbles, catching Todoroki when he tries and fails to stand up. “Damn, take it easy, moron. You were passed out for at least ten hours.”

“What?” Todoroki is awake instantly, stumbling to grab Bakugou’s shoulders. “Ten? How much time do we have left?”

“Just over four hours. But I just won the game, I think.” Bakugou glances at the ceiling above their heads, raising his voice. “We won! Let us the fuck out of here!”

After a moment of silence, a laugh rings through the air. “Sorry, but I never said kissing him would win you the game. And I never said this room was the center of the maze, either.”

“You motherfucker!” Bakugou slams his fist against the glass coffin, shattering it into pieces. “Let us out, dammit!”

“Stay calm,” Todoroki says, even though his hand is trembling when he grabs Bakugou’s arm. “We just have to find the center… and we’ll be fine.”

Twenty-four minutes and fifteen seconds. That’s how long they have left before they cease to exist. They’ve tried everything, but as expected, the villain just keeps throwing in new twists. All in all, Bakugou’s had much better days.

To make matters worse, Todoroki has quickly become exhausted using his fire quirk over and over again. The villain must be trying to wear him out on purpose, because he keeps creating ice monsters. It pisses Bakugou off to no end, especially when they finally reach another room, only to have the doors disappear.

“Fuck.” Bakugou sags against the wall, dropping his last remaining gauntlet on the floor. “This is torture.”

Todoroki falls beside him, forehead coated with sweat, skin gently steaming. “I can’t… use my left side anymore.” His head falls against Bakugou’s shoulder, and he’s about to tell him to fuck off when he realizes he’s passed out.

“Fuck, Icy Hot, wake up.” Bakugou shakes him, but he won’t open his eyes. He’s breathing so heavily that he’s almost hyperventilating. Fuck, this isn’t good. If they can’t get out of this room, then…

Dammit. For half a second, Bakugou isn’t sure what he’ll do if they get out of here. He’s never been in close proximity with Todoroki for this long, and it’s making him… weird. Why does his chest hurt? Why doesn’t he want to push the bastard off him? It doesn’t make any sense.

“Giving up already?” a familiar, annoying voice echoes. Bakugou doesn’t have the strength to be angry anymore, so he shifts to make himself more comfortable, letting Todoroki’s head fall against his neck.

This is fine, isn’t it? Maybe that’s just sleep deprivation and exhaustion talking, but disappearing like this doesn’t seem so bad. It probably won’t hurt, and Todoroki feels warm against his side, like a ray of sun. There’s been nothing but spite between them, but Bakugou thinks that if they were to get out of here, he’d probably have to admit that he’s in love with him. A strange, nonsensical love, born from begrudging admiration and silent observation. Love born from stubbornness.

There are only three minutes left, and it pains Bakugou that he won’t get to tell Todoroki any of this before time runs out.

“This so isn’t fun now.” The villain appears in front of them, pouting childishly. “Are you really not going to try anymore?”

Bakugou doesn’t answer, closing his eyes and tilting his head back. It’s been so long since he last slept… And drifting away with Todoroki beside him seems perfectly okay.

“Bakugou. Wake up.”

Bakugou hears the voice, and he wants to tell it to fuck off and let him sleep, but his lips won’t form the words. Man, he’s tired…

“Bakugou…” The voice is much closer, whispering in his ear. “I’ll kiss you.”

….What? Bakugou frowns, But he still can’t open his eyes. It feels like he’s been asleep for days. When he feels the cool press of lips against his, though, the splash of ice water in his veins finally wakes him up. For a moment, he has no idea where he is. All he can see is a pale face and two shining eyes. Todoroki.

“What the fuck?” Bakugou murmurs without much feeling. “Why did you kiss me?”

“Payback for the maze.” Todoroki sits back, his expression as unreadable as ever. “How do you feel?”

Bakugou ignores the question. “You mean… we’re not in the maze anymore? We’re still alive?”

“Midoriya and the others defeated the villain and got us out.” Todoroki looks away, the sun catching strands of his hair. They glow against his forehead like strings of starlight, glittering when he tilts his head. “Are you okay?”

Bakugou’s throat is so dry that he has to swallow three times before answering. “I’m fine.” He clears his throat, because he has too much to say and no courage to say it.

Everything he thought before passing out is still fresh in his head, etched there with permanent marker. ‘I like Todoroki.’ In the maze, it was only a ‘what if’ scenario, but they’re out now. They survived. And Bakugou’s heart is still singing, surging against his chest, pushing him towards Todoroki. Who just kissed him.

Bakugou’s face explodes in a blush so instantaneously that he can’t even try to stop it. He’s staring at Todoroki, and he must be able to read the panic off his face because he smiles, this fucking bastard. “You look like you have something to say.”

The patience of his tone makes Bakugou 1.) incredibly annoyed, and 2.) incredibly embarrassed. God dammit, this asshole knows. He somehow knows, and he’s tormenting Bakugou into telling him.

As fucking if.

“I have dogshit to say to you, damn bastard. Get the fuck out before I kill you.”

Todoroki just keeps smiling, which is 1000 times more annoying than anything else he could do. “Okay. When you want to talk, I’ll be here.”

“Fuck you,” Bakugou growls, even while his heart is saying, I love you.

Ok. Ok...I finally finished Nier: Automata. I like to go looking for fanart too, but it’s...difficult for this fandom because....mainly it’s alot of er....very revealing drawings of 2B. I get it, but I get very tired of that stuff real quick...I like the wholesome stuff, cute fluff, the like, so if anyone knows where I can find that/good nier: automata fanart/gif blogs, I’d love to hear! 

But yeah more thoughts since the last part of the game just cranks everything up to an 11 and tbh I’m really emotional (MAJOR SPOILERS BTW. It’s an...older game now but I still feel like I should warn...)

- Ok I thought the beginning of route D/C was cool if surprisingly difficult?? Playing as 2B running around in full armor and I seem to be more fragile actually?? Hrm.

- I did NOT expect 2B to be killed so soon. Like. Wat. I knew it was coming but not THEN. And A2 taking mercy on her and finishing her off (when we found out she’s witnessed comrades suffering this same virus before it makes even more sense) was actually...that made a big impact on me. I liked A2 right off the batt. I love that her arc is to learn to care again. Not just about androids, but the world, and how beautiful it is...just...after all her trauma and such I just think her story arc is lovely. 

- I do question how she ran around in clothing scraps for years but I mean. You do you sweetie. 

- 2B’s soft “Nines...” as she notices him watching her die I DIE, I missed her so muuuuch...

- Devola and Popola are apparently characters from a previous Nier game and gosh dang I love these disaster twins. They deserve so much better...thank you for looking out for 9S you two ;~;

- I realize 9S actually has alot of Moms and I think it’s hilarious (Devola and Popola, Anemone, 2B, A2, O210, HIS OWN POD ) but also really cute!

- Watching sweet 9S slowly but surely descend into madness and rage just...pained me. I mean I feel that is how you do that kind of character development, it...worked, but oh my GOSH that boy was a mess by the end ;;A;; screaming, crying, killing...his voice actor is super good. I had to remind myself this angry boy is same voice of sweet little Mob X’’’D But just all his “nothing matters anymore, I’ll kill you all” lines sounded so painful and angry and insane all at once and just A+++ choice of voice actor yall. Having to kill O210 was just...noooo isn’t he suffering enough?? Isn’t she???? BWEH

- I realize alot of the side quests about revenge were foreshadowing this character arc and this also pains me.

- A2′s banter with 2B’s pod was beautiful and I couldn’t get enough of it, especially his not so subtle jabs at her inability to comprehend things/calling her stupid basically X’’’’’’’’’D 

- Also A2 interacting with the machines at Pascal’s village gave me life and light in these dark times. The kids call her big sis!!! She helps build them a slide!!! My heart!! ;;7;; 

- Also just...everything that happened to that village...ugh. Why. WHY.

Me: Things are sad now but hey at least we still have Pascal’s happy peace village!

Game: *for some reason, half of the machines in the village get infected by the network and start eating each other, everything’s in flames, there seem to be no survivors*

Me: Aaaaaaaa at least...Pascal lives? With the children?? They’re safe, right? 

Game: *Yeah but now an army of infected machines are coming your way and you have to fight them off with a previously pacifist robot Pascal*

Me: Ok...ok did that. It was pretty cool. But knowing this game the kids are going to be dead upon return huh...the machines went around and got to them...*trying to prepare*

Game: *they indeed died, but it was actually suicide because they were overcome by fear, which fear is a concept Pascal taught them, and now he hates himself and wants you to kill him too or erase his memories*

Me: ...............frick. *just walks away*

- I COULDN’T DO IT I just walked away I feel like that’s the most chance for hope DX what the heck Yoko Taro do you LIKE suffering?? 

- Just everything up to the ending was super cool and pretty dang epic. I was confused on lore points, but hoo boy the full revelation on project YorHa is just awful and I can’t blame 9S for going totally ballistic after finding out...

- Red girl. Super creepy. Jackass’s report on her after completing the game?? Hilarious.

- Might I say, Jackass is a hilarious, great side character, and she was totally immune to all the tragedy and just wanted to teach others how to make bombs X’’’’’D Her name alone had me busting out laughing, what a gal

- I like Ending C better than D...but the bit about the ark was interestinggg...I love confirmation that Adam is taking care of his little brother in the datascape at least ;;v;; Eve deserves it...

- A2′s “I’m coming, everyone” as she falls to her death WEEEEEHHHHHHH

- Ok but the game makers put so much heart into this game. Ending E???? Was really hard to get. But it was so COOL. It took the whole nihilistic “nothing matters anymore” theme and turns it right on it’s head, as it puts you in this little mini game against the credits of the game...a FIGHT for a better ending. And I finally stopped being dumb and turned on the network and it got BETTER??? Quotes from other players encouraging me and uplifting...apparently the actual 2B and 9S voice actors data are in there too and they helped out and iasiuwruyguyerge the fourth wall is so broken but dang I love it...getting help from past players was amazing.....

- ALSO THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD IS SUCH A GOOD SONGGGGG and that it uses ALL versions/languages of the song all in once scene PLUS a chorus in the back if you accept help from others...chills. Like. I was trying so hard not to cry it was AMAZING, I love music and it was GRAND 

- The E ending was very open ended but also super hopeful and I love the pods for helping us and I hope these children can live on and be happy now...I will draw that fanart for sure. 

- Needless to say I hate sad endings, I hate that people think they’re cool and progressive because for me they’re just depressing. I literally leave media feeling empty and near depressed after those. So the fact this game GIVES you the option to press on and try to bring some light and happiness back just really, really touched my heart...I really appreciate how it was done.

Also I didn’t sacrifice my save data because I’m terrible I’m sorry my brother’s file is still on here he would KILL ME

So I’m super grateful to my friend Ana for introducing this masterpiece to me. What a GOOD GAME. A little wierd, a little quirky, very sad, but a good message at the end...I loved this journey. Super unique to anything else I’ve played. Now I’ll have alot more free time back since I finally finished this off too X’’’’D but hey, I’m happy with it!!

I also wanna go lore diving but I am very...emotionally exhausted and should do that Later >v>;;;;;

Thinking of the system miku fic i started its pretty pjsekai-centric bc thats the meeks ik best. I just think it is neat and interestinggg how her modules/outfits r so different from each other.. they act and speak completely differently.. look like separate entities when they arent..she switches entirely to SPECIFIC looks to suit SPECIFIC (sometimes stressful!!!) situations…almost like a new being created for this role..hmmmmmm <3
