So this past weekend I went to the Hecksher Museum of Art in Huntington NY and I was enormously impressed by this exhibition of 2020 Long Island’s Best HIGH SCHOOL students art. Yes, these amazingly awesome paintings were done by HIGH SCHOOL students. They were all inspired by a mature artist’s original painting, and yet to me nearly all of them were far superior than their inspirations. Even more so they were superior to the boring professional abstract artist who was on display (not naming her). Both highly polished and relevant to current social issues, I was blown away. They also included explanations of artist intentions in relation to the original paintings and many have accompanying YouTube videos where admirers explain how the paintings spoke to them, their meanings or have the artist themselves commenting or interviewed. This is only a small selection. Definitely check it out if you are in the neighborhood.
