Well that's one, I wonder what the second thing that can still go wrong is gonna be
Did Erin accidentally break the rules of a sailor superstition and invoke a bad luck curse or something? Because at this point nearly everything that can go wrong, has gone wrong, and I'm enjoying watching the chaos from a safe distance
oh I think there's one or two more things that can still go wrong
#srsly the lacrima ran outta juice??#erin you gotta charge your powerbanks properly and know how long they last BEFORE you leave#what can still go wrong?#seamonsters?#I'm betting sea monsters

To everyone that’s reading this that currently lives in Venezuela, starting from tomorrow please be extremely careful.
Trust me when i say this, but I haven’t heard good things about what the president is going to do to sabotage the elections, some of them include setting free criminals, causing national power outages, closing the polling stations earlier that what was indicated, etc.
When you vote, NO ONE can supervise you, your vote is private, so don’t let ANYONE follow you while you do it unless you need it.
When you vote, don’t take photos, that’s an electoral crime, so please avoid getting in trouble.
I’ve also heard that when you click to vote for Edmundo González Urrutia, it takes a few seconds (about 4 or 5) until his picture appears, if you rush your vote will be nullified, so please be careful.
Don’t use any clothing that referenced any political party, dress as simply as you can.
Here you have some other advice, it’s not indicated in the pic, but you can’t vote while wearing a cap, but you can bring one to protect yourself from the sun and then when you go to vote you can take it off.
If you can, bring things to help your polling station, like snacks and water.
Charge your devices, lanterns, powerbanks, electric fans, etc, and make sure you have enough food in your home, mostly canned food and long lasting products.
If it’s within your possibilities, help those who don’t have any transportation to vote, I know our country is suffering from many gas problems, but you can help your neighbors or those who are closer to you.
Please check that you are still on your same polling station ! I’ve seen many people that get suddenly moved from one state to another, so please make sure to check that here
Also, a bit controversial (or not) but hide the ID’s of your family members that want to vote for you-know-who ;)
The amount of warnings I’m making on this post aren’t enough for how much we should be careful with the current situation of Venezuela, so please, make sure to inform yourself through different social medias about advices and other precautions you should have.
We don’t know that awaits us for tomorrow, or the days after the 28, but I hope we can finally get our wished outcome we’ve waited for 25 years.
And most importantly, let’s have faith, and let’s hope that our country can finally be free 🇻🇪🇻🇪🇻🇪

I’ve been camping more these last few years and as your my local cool guy any tips?
[I’d like to think I’m not too dumb as I don’t leave raw meat out but who knows.]
Always bring a backup powerbank and if you can afford a sat phone, get one. You never know when/if you might need it.
Stockpile your petrol. If it's legal, have an extra jerrycan of petrol in your car at all times and use a fuel stabiliser so it stays fresh. Most fuel stabilisers will last up to 12 months.
Also be aware of your surroundings. If everything's noisy, you're safe. If everything's quiet, you're fucked. Put your rain fly up--yes, even if the weather's perfect. Bring a knife and a fire-starter, especially a magnesium one that'll still light if wet. Don't trust a lighter.
ALWAYS TELL SOMEONE WHERE YOU'RE GOING, THE ROUTE YOU'RE TAKING, HOW LONG YOU'LL BE GONE, AND WHEN YOU'LL BE BACK. This is non-negotiable.
And most importantly have fun :]

OK I've had dinner and laid down a while and am ready to complain about my journey now. Buckle up.
So my mother accidentally took my passport with her. I called the consulate emergency line on Sunday and they told me to come in on monday morning. So I took the 7:30 am train from my brother's city to Toronto, where I arrived at 10:30. Left my bags at my cousin's flat, then went to the consulate.
They close to the public at 1 PM. They literally locked the doors with me inside. I get my paper at 1:30. I spend the next 4 hours having a lovely time last-minute christmas shopping with my cousins, then head to the airport at 5:30.
Get there at 6:30. Everything is automated, and I can't use the automated terminal on account of not having a passport, so I have to go to the assistance desk. They're only letting people from my flight enter the (very long) line for the assistance desk at 7. My flight has been delayed 2 hours. Standard airport stuff, takes ages, there's a moment of tension when the attendant goes into the back to get her manager because she doesn't know what to do about my authorization document, but I get through.
My cousin texts me to say I forgot one of the gifts she bought for her brother in Brazil. Woops. My phone is at 12% battery. Oh fuck, I'm missing my charger. No store in this entire airport sells micro-USB chargers. I end up paying double the price to buy a powerbank that is supposed to be charged with a micro-USB so I can use the cord of it to charge my phone. The plane spends another hour on the tarmac.
We arrive in Sao Paulo. I have missed my connecting flight. I am trying to locate the man they said on the intercom could help me. They have rescheduled me on another one in 3 hours, at another airport in a neighbouring city. I pick up my taxi voucher and go. 1 hour later, I am at the second airport. I attempt to check in. The rescheduled flight has been cancelled. I am re-rescheduled on a flight leaving at 6:15 PM. I left the house at 7 AM the DAY BEFORE.
Thankfully, that was the end of it, and I am home safe, also met many interesting people especially in the 5 hours I spent twiddling my thumbs in Congonhas but yeah that was definitely the longest day of my life.
#life of dan#long post#idk what to tell you this is just me complaining about the journey ive had#every muscle in my body hurts

I'm not going to argue with a bird enthusiast about their compassion for birds. I believe them. I am grateful they exist. What I will argue against is these massive energy construction projects. Just like the craze for building hydroelectric dams, this newest iteration has proven to be the same story as that was. Dams have proven to be harmful to the water table, the river ecologies, local communities, floodplains, and even geology in terms of seismic effects and deformation of bedrock. They've nearly all built up silt to the point of costing more than they are worth without reasonable down-time to clean out planned because they demand being brought back online to the powergrid so quickly. And that silt builds up quickly! Massive construction projects tend to displace responsibility, abdicate it. They don't make people aware of the reality of modern infrastructure or the dynamics of their lifestyle in the role of culture. It brushes the problems under the rug, out of sight, out of mind, no personal changes or accountability needed. "There's an app for that!" mentality. Below are some points that basically make themselves. Just like the deluded mass-industry mentality behind the logistics of massive lithium-ion powerbanks for houses, or for cars, or for the electrical grid itself-- the use of iron for these wind turbines and mass energy projects is distorted and wasteful-- unsustainable. The amount of lithium used for an EV car battery could equal hundreds of electronic devices such as medical or even mere personal use devices like cellphones and laptops. Instead, the model of planned/engineered obsolescence that is perpetuated by capitalist consumerism not only makes those electronics wasteful in design, but also in resource logistics-- so nobody would ever even see how they deserve to be the way that the lithium is allocated to begin with instead. With the amount of iron and fossil fuels expended in constructing these wind turbines, a whole global system of nickel-iron (ferro-nickel) batteries could be built that would last hundreds of years. People have no cognitive intuition to what these metals and energy can do in the forms they can take. Instead? ...
The paragraph from the book in full reads: “The concept of net energy must also be applied to renewable sources of energy, such as windmills and photovoltaics. A two-megawatt windmill contains 260 tonnes of steel requiring 170 tonnes of coking coal and 300 tonnes of iron ore, all mined, transported and produced by hydrocarbons. The question is: how long must a windmill generate energy before it creates more energy than it took to build it? At a good wind site, the energy payback day could be in three years or less; in a poor location, energy payback may be never. That is, a windmill could spin until it falls apart and never generate as much energy as was invested in building it.” Hughes told Reuters that his comments had been taken out of context and that the passage relates to capacity factory, which is the “amount of electricity a wind mill actually generates compared to the amount it would generate if it was running at 100% of its rated Generating Capacity”.
Where are ideal locations for energy to be harvested with these massive projects and how are they built? Are they always the most patient in doing things ethically, or do you think they seek a bottom-line of money?
youtube
youtube
as a huge lover of birds, 90% of the concern against wind turbines being used for energy is literally just pro fossil fuel propaganda. birds ARE at a risk however there is a lot of strategies even as simple as painting one of the blades that reduces a lot of accidental deaths. additionally renewable energy sources will do more in favor of the environment that would positively impact birds (and all of us). one study found over one million bird deaths from wind turbines. while that is a shockingly high number and we should work to drastically shrink it, at least 1.3 billion birds die to outdoor cats on a yearly basis. it was never about caring about birds

Seriously considering an upgrade from my phone but damn any phone I'm interested now released last year (2023) is a serious downgrade from at least two features from my current phone.
Current phone: Huawei P30 Pro (Released 2019, purchased demo unit in 2021)
Currently I'm looking at:
Oppo N3 Flip - wanted a flip phone, but this doesn't have wireless charging and reverse charging which my current phone has, also it doesn't have external memory slot. The only upgrade to switch to this phone is just a 100mAh battery increase and better camera? and the novelty of having a flip phone
Iphone 15 Pro - a downgrade in terms of battery capacity and memory capacity (no external slot, again, WHY), also missing dual SIM (found it very convenient while travelling overseas) but definitely better camera quality and I can link my iPad seamlessly with this device. Also there's like features like Infrared port on my current device that I don't use often that I have to give up hahahah
Anyways my priorities for a phone would be something like this:
Battery life - I'm not used to carrying a powerbank everywhere I go and I don't want to change that
External memory slot - I like having this option so it won't be necessary to get a cloud storage or a phone upgrade just because my phone memory is full
Camera - P30 Pro is a Leica camera so I'm actually pretty satisfied with its performance. Only worthy competitor would be the iPhone 😬 Not sure about Sony
I would consider getting a Huawei again if only Google services are available (P30 Pro was the last model to have Google Services before US Sanctions) and also Leica has stopped working with them. So their phones are not even on my radar.
I guess I'll hold off the upgrade for now. Plus, my phone is still working well. Let's see how long this phone can survive. I decided I'm gonna take care of this phone and see how far it goes.

Hello blu! Here's the full wiki for the survival manual thing: https://github.com/ligi/SurvivalManual/wiki
It's kinda long so I dont expect you to read it but if you want to skim it and talk about things that catch your eye you can. I will compile a list of the things I find strange and will send it soon
Righto, let's go through this a bit!
First thing is that it's apparently based on the FM 3-05.70 Field Manual, which is good. That's the current survival manual used by the US Military (or Army, at least).
From what I've seen so far I don't think I'm going to be disagreeing much with what this manual contains. It's INCREDIBLY detailed by its explanations (much like its source of inspiration) and I've only just reached the "Power" section (under "Home").
My only complaint so far is this:
Powerbanks with solar input sometimes will have internal batteries, so they will charge during the day and still provide power through the night or in harsher weather until that battery is emptied. The solar chargers for my phone and headset both have internal batteries and if you can get your hands on one they're defo worth it. I do suggest getting the more expensive ones since the cheap ones have very small internal batteries and will not hold enough energy to fully charge a phone. Mine are the 18w Blavor one which I got for about $50USD.
The best is the BigBlue3 which you can get for $73USD on Amazon, however (while this charges your shit exceptionally fast) it doesn't have an internal battery and so it cannot charge during the night time. This is something I use to charge my external backup powerbanks, though!
On the topic of nonsolar external powerbanks, I'd recommend the Anker PowerCore Essential 2000. It has a 20,000mAh battery capacity which means this is going to take forever to charge--about 10 and a half hours the last time I timed mine on a wall outlet--but it's more than worth it for the capacity it holds. You can get it for a little over $35 on Amazon and this is the energy bank I use (I have two)! It gives my phone a full 5 recharges before it's empty. I use mine for emergencies just in case my solar chargers go kaput or can't charge fast enough. I give mine a weekly recharge on the generator just to make sure they're topped off and it doesn't take more than 10-15 minutes of running the generator for them to reach full charge again.

15 Jan 24. Mon. 18.55
I just got home from you. This time, an even quicker trip than last. You texted me, asking if I'm getting the tattoo alone. I said yes. You asked again, so I hoped, and yearned, that maybe, you want me to ask if you want to come with.
And so I did. I asked. Which you turned down. Yet again. Good thing I didn't bring my hopes up. I knew now how to be friends with you. I'm okay with being friends. I'm happy we're talking again like friends.
Desperate for the trip tomorrow, I made the last attempt to see you, at least. And I needed the powerbank anyway. So I asked. You said you'd let me borrow. I asked if you've eaten, and that I can grab food on the way. I asked, thinking we can eat together. I haven't eaten anything at all today. I would be happy to share a meal with you. You asked for a Kebab.
And so, on my way to you, I bought two– one for me, and one for you. I made my way to you, the thought of not being invited in, not even coming into mind. And so when I texted, that I'm downstairs, waiting to be let in, I was surprised that you handed me the powerbank, expecting me to leave, just like that.
Still in a trance of how quickly that happened, I was also quick to think in my feet. I said my phone is dying, which is true, and that I need to charge it up a bit before I go. At first you were denying me, and then you asked, as if surprisingly, "Oh, you want to come up?" I nodded, said I need at least a few bars before I go. So up we went.
I stood there, on my phone, as you went to talk to your computer. "Sinead," you said, "I'll be back really quickly... I need you to quit the game first... Yeah, I really want to play this game with you... Give me thirty minutes."
And I was standing there, feeling smaller and smaller upon my feet. What the fuck am I doing here, and why the fuck is he being rude? 30 minutes? All that saying while I'm hearing it? These thoughts came later as I try to wonder what he must be typing on his phone, probably, "God, she's here annoying me again." or "When will she stop?"
And so I made my presence as tiny as possible as I charged my phone. You tried to make conversation, I answered civilly, like what friends do. But deep inside, I'm insulted. I told you, "I got you two Kebabs," and you said, "Why two?" I was hoping you'd say thank you instead, because I do not know how to answer you that, I do not know how to tell you that it's supposed to be for us– one for me, and one for you.
And when I cannot last any more longer, the space constricting my breathing more and more, I excused myself to get going. And as if you haven't hurt me enough, for what reason, I don't know, you didn't even open the door. You'd usually walk me to the bus stop. You didn't even walk me to the ground floor. That's when I realized that this, whatever I am doing for you, needs to stop. I have always been nice and giving. I ignored how you hid the bag I gave you as soon as I entered your home. I chose to ignore how less and less your replies have been coming in. After all, friends talk to each other and it's not such a demand to ask for a reply. I wasn't even pushy with my presence, I choose to exist when you want me to. You're the one who keeps lurking around, following my newly made account that is obviously for myself. No– I refuse to share that part with you. What are you going to do with it anyways?
But you didn't have to be a jerk. I always try to be nice. But when people, instead of reciprocating the civility, choose to be rude instead, I sizzle, as if I'm a boiling magma inside a volcano ready to erupt. You didn't have to be a jerk.
One time, my friend asked me what is my preference with guys. I told him, I'm fine with whoever, as long as he is nice. I've always liked nice people because I grew up with my Dad always being nice to my Mom and to everyone she values. I just wanted that nicety.
But if you're going to act like a jerk for no reason, then I don't think I'd like to be around you. This, Allen, will be the last letter I write to you. You didn't have to make me hate you. If you wanted to be friends instead, why did you have to push me away?
