NO YOU GET IT YOU GET IT SO HARD MAN LIKE . chandrelles a bit of a bitch she has a tendency to only think ab herself but like god forbid women be complex 🤬 /lh
AND CARLA FR UR SO RIGHT
YES EXACTLY like Chandrelle sucks as a person i will happily admit that but also I would suck as a person too if I was used as a pawn every day of my life, escaped it, was used as a pawn again, escaped it, and then got a literal demon in my head as punishment for not wanting to be a slave to a system. Chandrelle does show some degree of guilt (tries to apologize to Lazarus before he interrupts her, rightfully so she fucked him up big time, but also she made an attempt + clearly was surprised there were such bad consequences but then also later states that the pair knew there’d be consequences) but Chandrelle is literally either seen as scum of the Earth for what she did (which on one hand fair, she did commit literal genocide, but also…the direct casualties were npcs. Npcs that get mass produced, at that. And also the priest + town girl but they exist solely to serve Chandrelle’s story and dont really have proper personalities outside of her story) or just. One half of Stormbleeze. Like i love Stormbleeze dont get me wrong, i made an animatic about them, but I don’t realistically see Chandrelle and Lazarus just. Instantly making up. Can they *eventually* make up? Sure. But anything they do have post game is never gonna be what it used to be before Chandrelle destroyed SoL. They’re different people than who they were back then and theres always gonna be that tension of the past between them. Also guys please let me see Chandrelle interact with people besides Lazarus i beg of you I will accept Bryce whom she canonically gets along with enough to willingly sit with him during the game. I hate it when women (or anyone in general) get reduced to either evil supreme for being complex characters or one half of a ship. Im not a huge LN fan but my gf is and it’s giving Six’s fandom treatment
And god Carla is so ignored AND FOR WHAT?? I get she hardly has screen time but like. So does Rebecha and everyone latches onto her (/lh i love becha too). I get we dont get a canon design for her or much outside of Sado and Lionel, but its like. Shes a morally ambiguous character too who was willing to make a dangerous virus clown to haunt her ex friend as a revenge plot but she also follows through on her promise with him following his death, even if he cant hold her to that promise from beyond the grave. Im begging yall to actually look at antagonists outside of Sado and Irving im begging and pleading. I could also go into detail abt Reggie but this post is abt women so I’ll save that for another day

v3 girls x reader during a sleepover 💭 ✧ ⁺˳ .
type • headcanons , lighthearted , gender neutral reader , fluff , non killing game
author's note* noticed this completed in my drafts, so why not post it? 🤍 might be going back into my dangan hyperfixation...who knows. to my followers who like dgr, expect to be fed soon! :3c
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
kaede akamatsu ♡
asked if you wanted to wear matching pajamas and you agreed
you were actually happy that you did
she thinks you two look cute
she's so considerate towards you throughout the night
she picked out the snacks she knew you'd like
she let you pick what movies you would binge on and what music you two would listen to
she even listened when you shared some scary stories (although she knew she'd be freaked out by the time you were finished telling them)
"nighty night (Y/N)." she whispers out to you before she turns the lights off
miu iruma ♡
she teased you about your choice of pajamas, which were, compared to hers, so much more conservative
when you did it back however she whined about it
"why don't you come and warm me up in bed then huh?"
you threw a pillow at her head
she put on some movie that you two were really not paying any attention to
instead she began to show things to you on her phone quickly scrolling past every questionable picture in her camera roll
"you feeling tired?" "me neither"
suddenly gets an idea for an invention and forces you out of bed. "come on, you're going to help me!"
miu pls it's like 2 AM
maki harukawa ♡
tried her best to accomodate you
constantly asking if you need anything such as more pillows, another blanket, more food, drink and more
you tell her that she's sweet, but you're fine, really!
tells you that you can pick any movie you want as long as it isn't a movie about spies or assassins
you're fine with that and pick something cute (healing maki's inner child one step at a time)
she ends up drifting off to sleep near the end of it though
you didn't mind it
she looked really cute cuddled up against you
kirumi tojo ♡
like maki, she would accomodate you in any way she could
kirumi there's so many pillows and blankets we could literally make a fort
you would thank her ofc
she made a charcuterie that includes cheese, grapes and nuts
you're impressed and so very grateful towards her
she would ask you if everything is to your satisfaction
"kirumi, i feel like i'm in a damn five star hotel"
also, you reminded her that this is her downtime too
you insisted that she cuddle underneath the blankets with you and watch a few videos before you two slept
she agreed but made you promise you'd let her wake up earlier so you two can have an amazing breakfast
angie yonaga ♡
insists on doing face masks before bedtime
she also wants to brush your hair
"angie, this is your sleepover too. why do you want to pamper me so much?"
she tells you that atua told her to extra hospitable towards guests who intend to stay overnight
before bed, angie had a routine of meditating, then stretching
she asked if you would like to join her! she wouldn't let you refuse
but you didn't regret it bc it totally relaxed you
"may god watch over and protect you while you sleep." she says
then it's lights out
tenko chabashira ♡
she insisted you came over a bit earlier so you two could spar together
"if we're going to get good sleep, we need to tire ourselves out!"
she's so full of energy
but not for long
she always pushes herself to the limit
you suggest that you both shower before bedtime
"tomorrow...too tired right now..." she flops on top of her bed
she's the type to always fall asleep first at a sleepover (besides himiko)
although you didn't do too many stereotypical sleepover things together
you still had a good time
you thanked her over breakfast the next morning
himiko yumeno ♡
she puts on a magic show
she tells you that watching it will put a spell on you to make you fall asleep faster
but it was all so entertaining
you watched it through and by the end of it
himiko was the sleepy one
"hey (Y/N), can i ask a favor? ...can you make me some warm milk?"
the night ended with the two of you settling down for sleep while sipping cups of warm milk
tsumugi shirogane ♡
as expected of an ultimate cosplayer
she puts on a fashion show
which is really just a display of all of her cosplays but you enjoy it anyway
she asks you to guess which cosplay is which and you actually get some correctly
it's nice to see her enjoying her talent
she gets you to watch a few episodes from a show that has her favorite character in it
while it plays on screen, tsumugi can't help but talk over the dialogue and share every fun fact she knows about the show
"sorry if i'm boring you..." she stops for a moment and sighs
not at all! you encourage her to tell you more until she grows tired
and half an hour later, she lets out a big yawn. "thanks for listening, (Y/N)"
she passes out
the night ends with you knowing a little bit more about tsumugi's favorite media

howdy! can we get some hcs for ranpo, chuuya, and akutagawa missing (or forgetting) their s/o’s birthday?
Tumblr media
FungusWitch: Hello! My best bish, UnluckyAmulet, has once again graced us with a guest post of delicious headcanons, so I hope you enjoy!
Please check out her AO3! She also writes for Bleach, BNHA, Durarara, Dangan Ronpa, and JJK, among others!
Characters: Edogawa Ranpo, Nakahara Chuuya, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke
Contains: NSFW, birthday sex, bondage
Tumblr media
Edogawa Ranpo
Of the three, Ranpo is far and away the smartest, in both intellect and emotional intelligence. It's very unlikely you can hide how you feel about him missing your birthday from him - even if you haven't been dating Ranpo for long, if you're his s/o, he knows you. He can read your mood like a 3-D pop-up book. It's disconcerting but also oddly comforting.
It is very unlikely he forgot your birthday - it's more probably that he was doing a job for the Armed Detective Agency and got so wrapped up in it that he temporarily set aside everything else until it was finished. When Ranpo is chasing an interesting case it's nigh on impossible to get him to focus on anything else.
Once his hyperfixation ends, though, he does feel a little guilty. You ARE the s/o to the World's Greatest Detective, after all, so logically that means you ought to be celebrated! He gets right to it, roping in poor hapless Atsushi and other members of the Agency into decorating the office for your birthday. Of course he knows what gift you want (and probably makes Atsushi, Kunikida or someone go out and actually buy it. What? He'd get lost if he had to take the train to the mall!) He still takes credit when you praise him for being so thoughtful.
Ranpo tends to be a little lazy and spoiled, but for you, on your special day, he very nobly puts that aside to spoil you for a change. You wanna go do something fun like visit an amusement park or go to a concert? Great! He'll have Fukuzawa pay for tickets! You want to do something more lowkey, maybe chilling at home cuddling and watching movies with him? Awesome, he'll get popcorn! You wanna go out partying and getting shitfaced? Well…he's not much of a drinker, but he'll still come with to dance with you and hold your hair back when you puke. (He'll make Fukuzawa come pick your drunk ass up.)
And don't forget a long, long night of some truly incredible oral - Ranpo's best asset in the bedroom is that tongue of his, so he's going to go to town on you~
Remember to lavish him with praise over what a great boyfriend he is. He needs the validation, okay?
Nakahara Chuuya
With Chuuya he was probably doing a mission for Mori and simply didn't have time to be there or he did forget. His way of making it up to you is simple - gifts. Chuuya is very wealthy thanks to being a high-ranking Port Mafia agent, so whatever you want is yours. That new Prada bag? Done. You want a spa day with all the works? Already booked. Fanciest resturaunt in town? He can just waltz in and get a table whenever he wants.
This may sound all fine and great, but Chuuya may not immediately notice how you're feeling about him missing your birthday - he'll apologise but in a "Oops, sorry, babe!" kind of way and you'll have to be upfront with him if you're actually upset. Chuuya does have a bit of a bad habit of buying your affection when he's too busy to spend time with you, because he's used to people depending on him and being seen as a provider. If you like gift-giving as a love language then you might not consider this an issue, but he does somewhat use his money to assuage feeling guilty and avoid discussing it because he doesn't like seeing you upset.
Also, Chuuya has no memories of before he was seven years old and I doubt very much he got to celebrate his birthdays much when he was running around Suribachi with the Sheep. Sure, he can afford to go ham for his birthday now, and his subordinates gives him gifts (Koyo always buys him wine), but he might not quite grasp the emotional significance of birthdays. Sit him down and explain to him that you appreciate the gifts, but you want him, YOUR BOYFRIEND to be with you, not a credit card.
To make it up to you, Chuuya will give you a birthday fuck that goes on all night. If you have a position or kink you haven't got around to requesting from Chuuya, now's the time, because he intends to make you feel so good you can barely walk the next day.
Akutagawa Ryuunosuke
I'm gonna be honest, Akutagawa is not particularly understanding or sympathetic. At least, not right away.
He grew up in the slums with his kid sister, surviving off scraps and learning to fight from a very young age. Akutagawa likely had no concept of what a 'birthday' even was except just being another year he's managed to survive in the hellhole he was born into. Even now he's an adult and can afford to do whatever he wants to celebrate if he so chooses, he's not a very birthday person. He always buys a gift for Gin and will get something for his superiors as a token of respect (because it's expected of him), and he'll begrudgingly tell Higuchi "happy birthday", but overall he doesn't consider them that important. He does appreciate being given gifts, but doesn't think of them as a necessity.
So if you get upset or angry with him, he's liable to bite back at first. Akutagawa has trouble apologising because he was never apologised to when he was treated poorly, so he's generally not good at owning up to his mistakes. Like Chuuya, you need to explain to him that even if he doesn't place much importance on birthdays, you do and it hurts you that he doesn't seem to care.
That will get to him. For as grumpy and quick to violence as he is, he does care about his s/o greatly and he doesn't want to lose you. He doesn't even know why you love him in the first place, but he isn't willing to throw your whole relationship away over something trivial like this. So, he'll treat you to whatever you want. He's got the money to really spoil you and he doesn't take much time off, so he'll be able to free up his schedule. (Gin will also remind him next time or help him set up a reminder on his phone so he doesn't miss it in future.)
Try not to force him to come clubbing or some other loud, crowded activity. He won't refuse because he feels bad, but he'll ruin the mood by brooding in the corner like a wilting plant and he gets overstimulated and grouchy quite quickly. But he doesn't mind treating you to a posh meal or going on a holiday or something like that.
I hope you don't mind being tied up, because once somebody explains to Akutagawa the concept of birthday sex, he will go find you immediately and use Rashomon to hold you still for hours while he works you over - that's one birthday tradition he doesn't consider frivolous~

31 days of dangan- day 7 & 8: fav deuterag & protag
Considering how interconnected these two are, and how horrible work has made my sleep schedule in these days and made it difficult to type these out(don't work at the on-campus coffee shop during finals season. Don't do it), I elected to lump these two into a single post.
Fav deuterag- Genocider Syo
Tumblr media
Genocider Syo is, by a long while, my absolute favorite deuteragonist. Even when it comes to deuteragonists I may like more as characters, when looking at them as a deuteragonist, they fall completely flat in comparison to the SHSL Murderer by a wide fucking margin, to the point I'm honestly surprised I talk about her as little as I do, now that I think about it.
First of all, having the serial killer be a playable character, literally physically indestructible, and slaughter Monokumas with multiple special attacks? Objectively correct choice; Genocider was by far the best survivor you could possibly pull for a fighting game, and only barely tied with Peko, Sakura, and Mukuro on an overall for dr1 & 2, because not only is she an insanely capable murderer, she's a passionate murderer, and as such, makes for a much more enjoyable 3rd-person experience in combat than I think any of the others could be in a secondary role.
She also experiences fantastic character growth in her own right over the course of the game while remaining one of the most consistent and enjoyable characters. Her relationship with 'dekomaru' is genuinely heartwarming, with their heart-to-heart in chapter 4 being considered one of the most impactful moments of the series if that one funishment-time post is anything to go by, and really demonstrates all the strongest parts of her character beautifully. I adore seeing her get to have the rush of passion from her talent in combat, seeing her get attached to Komaru, and her being the one to accept Komaru's help and look back at her? Immaculate. 10/10. They should've kissed in the epilogue.
I think what really makes her stand out as a deuteragonist, though, is the fact that she fills exactly the right amount of space in the game, remaining a constant and becoming a reliable fallback for the player in a way that just isn't possible in the other games because they're all first-person. Kyoko, Chiaki, and Kaito are all good characters, but because they don't have their own mechanics and are separate characters in a large cast, you end up with them either disappearing and blending into the rest of the cast too much or being harped on and pointed out even when it's not necessary to remind you, the player, how important they are. It makes an overall balance, but can be frustrating in the moment. But with Syo, there is no such problem, because she's right there with you at any time, with the moments in which she does take unswappable control from Komaru being brief and impactful enough to feel like a joy to see and not a copout. Switching to her to break into the bus in chapter 3 is genuinely one of my favorite parts in that game, and not just because it signals the end of that godforsaken "motivation minigame". She's reliable and fun, and the deuteragonist also being playable is a really good and strong choice that they didn't have to make.
Overall, she's just a really great and fun character that was perfectly cast in her role. I really really like her, and she's awesome, and it's hard to put into words besides just "omg murder girl is doing murder!!! Love when murder girl murders"
Fav protag- Komaru Naegi
Tumblr media
Good Lord, WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT KOMARU??? I mean, I know she was in a "side game" but she's leagues better than the other protagonists imo, having the best character arc, strongest emotional core, and best drama and interactions with the other cast members. It feels the most like she's a person in the cast with her own dynamics and struggles and not just 'the reliable one everyone looks to'. I love Komaru Naegi so, so fucking much.
Komaru is the 3rd protagonist in the series, and it's incredibly apparent how the writers learned from creating Makoto and Hajime, as the strongest parts of both characters were pretty clearly put into a blender together to make Komaru and her story and evolve the world and lore. Like Makoto, Komaru is a more simplistic character who feels relatively normal but has distinctive oddness that she's unaware of. Unlike Makoto, that simplemindedness goes into the territory of full-on airheadedness, but has a much stronger emotional intelligence and intuition as a result. Where Makoto became hope embodied to save his people, Komaru recognizes nuance and chooses to save everyone, to understand everyone. Like Hajime, Komaru has no talent, and greatly admires those around her who are 'chosen', even having that insistence that she's not like everyone else and just wants to leave that Hajime insisted on halfwa through his final trial. Unlike Hajime, Komaru has a deep passion- just not one she's 'shsl' at. She loves manga, and wants to make her own manga, and her normalcy being a literal weakness instead of a metaphorical one gives her the opportunity to actually build her skill instead of being coerced into erasing herself for one, distinctly showing what Hajime could've had if he'd had support the way Komaru had Toko and Syo.
Komaru's character arc is also the best because it's non-linear, with her struggling to understand how much more capable she's becoming and struggling to understand her connections with Syo and Toko. The more gradual progression from fighting to survive, to fighting to save, is much more visible with her than it is with the other protagonists, as she has to learn to fight for herself first, whereas every other protagonist hits the ground prioritizing the people around them- Sayaka, Nagito, Kaede. And this becomes all the more elevated when Komaru actually receives the choice to leave of her own free will. A choice no other protagonist is given, and her rejecting it and choosing to stay for Syo, so that she doesn't have to go back on her vow to no longer kill, because caring for herself means caring for her loved ones, too.
Komaru also holds a ton of symbolism as a cycle-breaker when it comes to the Hope's Peak era. Like Junko and Monaca, Komaru is a younger sister put through torment and pushed by the game she's in to turn into a new symbol- a Hope like her brother, a Despair Sister. But she rejects this ending, because she valued the people around her without condition, doing what Monaca and Junko didn't and chooses to save both. She isn't Hope or Despair. She's both, distinctly both. It's also why she's matched up with Toko and Syo, who were designed to convey how the world is full of nuance and reverse imagery, and it makes for a fantastic match-up that Komaru ends up as the character to not only accept Toko and Syo as separate, but loves and protects both of them.
I also just adore the way Komaru isn't given princess treatment by the cast. Whenever a character argued with the other protagonists, it meant they were pissy and mean and the majority of the cast Did Not Like them. It was always very clear that the protagonist's social problems weren't going to affect their standing within the group overall, and had themselves established as the hero to everyone else by the end of their first trials. Komaru, on the other hand, has to fight and struggle for people to listen to her, experiencing a ton of pushback from the adult resistance and constantly being toyed with by the Monokuma Kids. She was the hero character for the player, but whereas the other protagonists spent time between the chapter finales getting gifts out of a slot machine and braiding your favorite character's hair, Komaru is fighting for her fucking life and pissing herself at every save point. Haiji doesn't like her, and hates Toko. She has to save them from an invasion twice before they'll so much as give her the time of day. And the Kids spend most of the game actively trying to murder her! Komaru is in constant conflict, and yet, she has the most compassion in the end, as a survivor of actual genocide.

SDR2 Debugging Menu: Ongoing Mystery
On July 24th, 2017, a post was made to Reddit with the following screenshot:
Tumblr media
The post title read, "This menu appeared in SDR2 when I pressed random buttons?"
Commenters were quick to point out this looked like a Debug menu, and asked OP how they had managed to open it.
Op had this to say:
"I was using a PS4 controller. I pressed Triangle,X, and both L1 and R1 at the same or close times in general, but I don't know the exact combo"
It has been 8 years since this post. To my knowledge, nobody since has talked about this, nor has found a way to replicate what u/Nargieo managed to pull off.
Let's talk about it.
Firstly, you may ask, is it a hoax?
Obviously, the chance is never 0, and I'll take the L if it is fake. But I personally believe it to be real.
The OP's account is suspended now, but using the Wayback machine, they seemed to be a fairly standard user who was a fan of multiple games and anime, Danganronpa just happening to be one of those things.
Furthermore, the font seen in the screenshot matches the debug_menu.ttf font file found inside the files of SDR2.
The words on the menu themselves also match how certain aspect are referred to in files only. For example, in the games files, Island Mode is called "SV" or "Survival Mode", matching the "Surv_Char" and such we see on that menu.
According to a friend of mine that knows more about game dev than I do, it is apparently common to use the controller of a "bigger" console (a PS4 opposed to a PSVita in this case) to play test games. A Debug menu being coded in specifically for this controller but not the Vita controller would be normal, they said.
Obviously, the chance of it being faked is possible. But considering all the errors and things left inside the Dangan games by mistake as it is, this seems apt. I believe it is real.
Why has no one talked about this in 8 years?
That's a good question. I don't know. But I feel it should be looked into more than it is now. Having access to the Debugging menu could give us more insight into the game than simply rifling through the files could. It is also just a cool thing to have.
By the way, considering how SDR2 is built, finding the debug menu for it likely means whatever button input will also work to open the debug menu for DR1.
What we know:
This took place on the PC version of SDR2. Based on the date being 2017, it is likely the newest Steam build which came out in Sept. 2, 2016. Build ID is 1312489.
Since the mouse icon is still used in the textbox to prompt the user to advance text, they had Keyboard and Mouse enabled for control hints. Not Gamepad, despite using a PS4 controller.
Speaking of, the user recalls pressing L1, R1, X, and △ in some order. This should be taken with a grain of salt, as they may be misremembering or have pressed something else without knowing. Just keep an open mind that other buttons may have been used.
Since we see a character (Kazuichi) speaking, we can assume it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the Options or □ button were pressed, as both these buttons open a new screen (the "Help" screen and Student Handbook respectively).
As the User said, they achieved this by pressing "random buttons" and were shocked to find this. Meaning something very important: This screen is something one could find on accident. That's important as it rules out any long codes that would be near impossible to input on accident, or use of the PS4 touch pad in the case of writing something specific.
The question is now: how do we replicate this?
That's the million dollar question. I, personally, have spent 3 hours so far in the middle of trials pressing random buttons and any combination of L1, R1, X, and △ that I can think of. I haven't had any luck so far.
I can't do this by myself, obviously. So I implore everyone who is interested (and has access to both SDR2 on Steam and a PS4 controller) to try this themselves. If you have any insight on Game Development, please add your thoughts.
However, accessing the debug menu without knowing how you did it is pointless. So here is what I suggest:
Open SDR2. Make sure it is not full screen. Have it off to the side.
Use the website Gamepad Viewer to visualize your PS4 controller.
Screen record as you play. I suggest OBS if you don't have a screen recorder, but anything works.
If you don't get the debug menu and you feel like you're done playing, just delete the video file. If you do get it, you can stop recording and look back at the footage to see what exact combo of buttons you pressed.
It may look something like this, set up wise:
Tumblr media
If nothing else, I hope this post gains traction so knowledge of this re-enters the Danganronpa community. It would be a shame to leave this to fade into obscurity.

Towa Town's residents knew the woman whose cottage sat on the edge of a cliff as Touko Fukawa, a reclusive author of romance stories. Most knew she lived there with her family, comprising of a tall, blond man and a cherub-faced baby boy. Fewer were aware of her frequent visits to the nearby beach, where she collected driftwood, seaweed and whatever else the sea washed up.
None of them, as far as Touko could tell, had any idea that she was also a witch. A powerful one at that.
To perform magic, most witches needed to drink a particular potion and say a certain word or phrase, but not Touko. She needed to when she was younger, but now she just had to think what spell she wanted to cast and it would happen.
Potions and speaking aloud helped focus her mind, though.
“Concado,” Touko said, exhaling as the picnic basket slowly lowered onto the sand.
“Coco!” little Aloysius piped up from the carrier strapped to his father's chest. Byakuya shook his head.
“One day, he may end up casting a spell,” he remarked.
“That would be a feat,” said Touko. She hadn't shown any magical inclinations until she was a few years older than Aloysius was now.
For all they knew, he was incapable of magic. Still, to be safe, she made a mental note to cast spells nonverbally when around Aloysius. At least until he was old enough to understand that when regular humans saw people do genuine magic, they freaked out. And when that happened, they often lashed out. Hurt witches. Killed them. That was why there were so few witches around these days.
“Touko, can you lay out the blanket?” asked Byakuya.
She stirred. “O-Of course!”
The blanket had been packed last, so Touko only needed to open the basket, take it out then spread it flat on the sand. Once she had done that, Byakuya let Aloysius out of the carrier so he could help Touko set out lunch.
While his parents busied themselves, Aloysius sat contentedly on the blanket, buzzing his lips. No one beyond Touko's small circle visited this section of the beach. There were plenty of better spots further along the shore, closer to the town and various facilities, rather than by a cliff that a cranky old woman fell to her death from more than a decade prior. Though, strictly speaking, no one had been able to confirm her death. Touko had watched her fall from the cliff one stormy night. Had witnessed the sea sweep her mentor's body into its depths. No human could survive that, not even a witch, but Touko had never seen her body afterwards to know for absolute certain.
To think that this calm sea had been ferocious enough to consume her mentor whole and leave behind not so much as a crumb. Touko’s gaze hovered on the horizon for a few seconds more before turning to her son. His sea blue eyes were wide as he took in his surroundings. Then, something on the blanket caught his attention and he crawled over to it. He grabbed what turned out to be a lemon slice.
Before Touko could react, he bit into it. Almost immediately, his face scrunched. Touko cooed at him.
“Just like your father,” she said, scooping Aloysius into her arms.
Byakuya folded his arms over his chest and pouted. “I only did that once.”
Touko lifted Aloysius under the armpits and bounced him. A delighted giggle left his beaming lips as he kicked his legs. While she could have used her magic to suspend him in midair, her powers couldn't replicate the feel of her son, and she didn't want to risk something going awry. Aloysius meant far more to her than a picnic basket, and she wouldn’t forgive herself if she harmed something, someone, so precious to her. What if while using her magic, her concentration broke and she dropped him?
This section of the beach was quiet, chipped only by the distant song of seagulls and her son's babbling. There should have been no distractions. They should have been okay. They were alone...
Or being watched.
It was a preposterous thought, but when she glanced over at the sea, she froze. A pair of eyes dipped beneath the surface.
Seconds passed. She couldn't see any more movement. Maybe it was a trick of the light. Maybe she saw two seashells bobbing. Or maybe it was something else. Around ten years ago, something similar happened over the course of a week, and the eyes had belonged to Byakuya.
He wasn't in the sea now, though. He was next to her.
Her heart quivered.
If it wasn't Byakuya that she saw, it could have been an aswang, readying to pounce and suck out Aloysious's insides with its proboscis tongue. Perhaps she had glimpsed a black and white bear driving a motorcycle, armed with a whip. Touko cringed as she imagined sirens emerging from the water, shooting a harpoon at Aloysius's head.
Or worse: what if her father had stumbled upon them?
Her arms buckled slightly. She could feel her skin burning, as if it didn’t belong to her. By holding Aloysius, was she burning him too? Did everything she touch burn to a crisp sooner or later?
But then Aloysius giggled, smiling gummily, and Touko stirred. Breathing shallowly, she focused on Aloysius, his weight, his realness. Aloysius was hers. Byakuya was too. And they had defeated the aswang, Monobear, the twin sirens and the ghosts within the shapeshifter that lived by Sonia Nevermind’s cottage. Afterwards, Touko had lived here with Byakuya, then with her son too. And her friends often came to visit ner. They were hers too. Her friends.
She breathed again. The invisible fire flickering across her skin started to wane, and she lowered Aloysius onto her lap.
“Touko, you summoned a cage of fire around us for a few seconds,” said Byakuya casually.
“I d-did?” blurted Touko, looking around frantically.
“It's gone now.” Byakuya was frowning at her.
“I didn't realise. I... I...”
“I remember something similar happening when you touched my lips prior to our courting, and I raised my voice,” said Byakuya calmly. “You were afraid. Are you afraid now as well?”
Touko's brow scrunched. Her hands were still tremoring.
“I thought I saw someone spying on us from the water,” she said, though she saw no signs of anyone lurking there. Not anymore, at least.
Byakuya looked over now. “It could be Asahina or Oogami.”
Sakura Oogami wasn't the sort of mermaid to creep around for fun, and her girlfriend would have been too impatient to stay hiding in the water for a surprise arrival. They both also knew that Touko wasn't a fan of surprises or tricks, as benevolently intentioned as they may have been.
A sigh heaved out from Touko. She rubbed her eyes with the heel of her hand. Instead of letting herself get rattled by imaginary fears, she should have been making sure she wasn't endangering her real family.
“I could have burned you both,” she mumbled. “What a bad mother and partner I am...”
“Nonsense,” said Byakuya. “Those flames appeared because you sensed a threat. You were protecting us. Touko, when I'm with you, I feel safe.”
She sniffled and withdrew her hand from her eyes. A faint blush had settled onto his features. He looked down, tracing his finger aimlessly against the blanket before balling it into a fist.
“How we're raising Aloysius is different from how I was brought up,” he said. “My father was uninvolved, and while my mother oversaw my upbringing, my butler is the one who primarily interacted with me.”
“And I should hope there won't be any bloodbath competitions between him and his siblings,” Touko piped up, mustering a thin smile. Aloysius grabbed her index finger and squeezed it.
Byakuya had told her about his childhood a long time ago. The massacre, his aloof parents, how he had been created not from love but to carry on the Togami legacy. Before meeting her, he had never heard of romance, and even then he had to be told it wasn't just a genre of books. Their upbringings had been different, yet despite how hers had burned her, despite how his had frozen his heart, she felt that they could understand each other.
“No, there won't be any of that,” replied Byakuya, glancing at Aloysius before fixing his eyes on Touko. “This is different, but... I prefer how we are. I wouldn't change it.”
If Aloysius hadn't been on her lap, Touko would have thrown herself at Byakuya and cried into his chest. For most of her life, she had been unwanted. By her parents, by the world. But now she had friends, a family. She had Byakuya.
“Me neither,” Touko croaked, and when Byakuya smiled, she smiled back wider.
Yes, this was perfect. This was their happily ever after, the one she had craved for so, so long. This was -
“Young Master!”
Touko whipped her head around and gasped. The eyes she had thought she glimpsed were back, but this time they did not flit out of sight. They bobbed along the swaying surface of the sea, on a head boasting swept back white hair. But it wasn't Sakura. No. Their hair was shorter, a small cloud that went no lower than their ears, paired with a beard and thin moustache. Also, while Sakura was around Touko’s age, the stranger's face was wracked with wrinkles.
A person in the sea, looking like that, could only be one thing...
Heart racing, Touko scrambled to her feet, almost overbalancing as she clutched Aloysius to her chest. He grumbled and wiggled, which only made her hold him tighter.
“S-Stay away, pervert! Or... Or I'll t-turn you into a slug!” Touko snarled at the stranger.
“Wait, Touko.” Byakuya touched a hand to her upper arm, on his feet now as well.
She hesitated. The intruder swam over to the beach, remaining on his stomach as he heaved himself forward onto the sand with his arms. Her eyes darted along his body, where she discovered he didn't have legs but a tail. A mermaid tail. Dark silver, with lunated fins at the end.
This wasn't the first time a mermaid had approached her out of the blue. It was how she met Byakuya. Still, the first time had been extraordinary enough by itself. Mermaids were endangered. Elusive. And yet another had just presented themselves to her.
Byakuya took his hand off Touko and held his arm out horizontally in front of her, like a shield.
“Code word?” asked Byakuya, staring intently at the stranger.
“Polaris,” said the stranger. “And yourself?”
“Selina.”
For several seconds, neither stirred, until the stranger placed a hand against his temple and blinked. “Blimey. You really do have legs now, Young Master.”
“And you look exactly the same,” said Byakuya.
“You know each other?” asked Touko, though when she looked at the stranger again, she thought she recognised him from somewhere. She didn’t know where, or how. The only mermaids she knew were Byakuya and Sakura. Perhaps she was misremembering and thinking of Kazuo Tengan, who had captained the ship they took on the way to visit Sonia.
Byakuya turned to her and waved an arm toward the stranger.
“This is my former butler, Pennyworth.”
Touko's eyes widened. Of course. While she hadn’t met him before, when she and Byakuya had fought the shapeshifter, one of the forms they faced had resembled Pennyworth. According to Byakuya, the last time he had seen the real Pennyworth was when the Pirates of Hope slaughtered the rest of the Togami clan with their submarine. To allow Byakuya to escape, Pennyworth had stayed behind to fight the submarine, with his fate left unknown.
Until now, apparently.
“How did you survive?” asked Byakuya, staying at Touko's side. Little Aloysius peered over at Pennyworth, curious. “Where have you been all this time? How did you know I would be here?”
Pennyworth pressed his lips together. He might have been smiling, but it was hard to tell as he seemed to carry a permanently stern countenance. “It’s a long story... that I am sure you no doubt possess as well.”
“Hm.” Byakuya continued eyeing him. “Start with an explanation about your reaction to me having legs now. You didn't seem too surprised.”
This felt more like an interrogation than a family reunion. Touko chewed her lip, bouncing Aloysius gently. She couldn't say she disagreed with Byakuya's wariness: the whole situation was bizarre. The two had been separated for years, and going by the code words and questioning, Byakuya seemed to suspect Pennyworth may have been an impostor.
They had met shapeshifters before. It wasn't impossible.
“To explain my reaction, I must start with your departure. Despite my best efforts, the monster that attacked us overpowered me. But I was prepared to die.” The almost smile stayed crusted on Pennyworth's lips, while his eyes took on a gleam. “I had lived a long life, and most importantly I had protected you, Master Byakuya.”
Except Pennyworth appeared to still be alive... assuming his body hadn't been reanimated.
“Y-You're not a zombie, are you?” asked Touko, hugging Aloysius closer. He whimpered and buried his face into her. It was unlikely he knew what zombies were, or even understood much of the conversation at all, but he wasn't dumb. Could still sense the tension crackling in the air.
Pennyworth looked toward him for a few seconds before shaking his head.
“No, I'm not a zombie. I expected the monster to end my life... but instead, it captured me in one of its metal claws and whisked me away... I was caged and bequeathed to some sort of faculty. It was like a collection, but instead of valuables, it housed creatures in small enclosures.”
She stared at Pennyworth, even when Aloysius tugged on her hair. “Like... a zoo?”
Touko hadn't been to a zoo before, though she had seen them in books. Happy nuclear families visited them and laughed and awed at the animals on display. Her parents had preferred to keep her in dark closets and if given the chance, her mentor would have never left her cottage. Trips out for pleasure were inconceivable back then.
She needed to go to one at some point with Byakuya and Aloysius. And her friends too, if they happened to be in the area.
“I had my own enclosure to live in, where scraps of food would periodically feed in through grates in the wall,” Pennyworth continued. “For company, there were humans with faces painted black and white who worked there, who would periodically come in and check on me, and I would regularly be visited by a group of four children who would taunt me and whack me with sticks.”
Before Touko could respond, Byakuya spoke first. “Those were the Pirates of Hope. They operated the monster you dueled, which was really a machine.”
Pennyworth cupped his chin, while Touko shuddered. She had not seen the self-proclaimed pirates since they escaped in their submarine.
“I see. After some time, the children stopped visiting,” said Pennyworth. Touko suspected this coincided with the defeat of their idol, Junko. Hopefully, without her influence, they weren’t out there slaughtering mermaids anymore. “I do not know if ownership of the establishment changed, but my daily routine changed thereafter. Sometimes, other creatures would stay temporarily in my enclosure, or I would visit others in theirs. I'm not sure of the purpose, though I suspect it may have been to do with a dark window that was installed into my enclosure after the visits from the infants ceased.”
“A dark window?” repeated Touko, wincing when Aloysius gave her hair another pull. Byakuya gently pried Aloysius off her and scooped him into his arms.
“Could it be similar to the glass in sunglasses?” asked Byakuya. “The wearer can see adequately, but when someone else looks in, they can't so easily see the wearer's eyes.”
“Y-Yes! A one-way window. That must be it,” said Touko, flashing a grin. She remembered when she had once crafted sunglasses for him to wear. Mermaids’ eyes were more sensitive to light than regular human’s. Maybe that was partly why Pennyworth was squinting - it was the middle of the day, the Sun shining down on them.
Pouting, Aloysius whined and patted his hand against Byakuya’s cheek.
“Young Master, I apologise if I am speaking out of turn, but I believe your young one is hungry,” said Pennyworth.
“Ah!” Touko’s hands leaped to her chest. “W-We were just having lunch before we arrived.”
“I am most sorry. I did not mean to interrupt all of you.”
“It’s fine,” replied Byakuya. Aloysius didn’t seem to think so, continuing to grumble and wiggle. “Pennyworth, would you mind if we continued your story by our picnic basket so our son can eat?”
Pennyworth cocked his head. “Picnic...?”
Though Byakuya had told Touko that Pennyworth taught him a lot about humans, picnics didn’t appear to be included in that. Byakuya led them to the blanket and sat down, with Touko sitting next to him. While Touko unscrewed a jar of homemade baby food and started feeding Aloysius, Pennyworth dragged himself over. A variety of foods were laid out: savory-sweet tamagoyaki, crisp potato croquettes, fried tofu pouches and different green vegetables.
“Help yourself,” said Byakuya, gesturing to the picnic. He himself didn’t begin eating, however. “As we were saying, in regards to the dark glass in your enclosure, it seems it was there so you could be observed covertly.”
Touko grimaced. “It was either a zoo, or a creepy love hotel.”
“Young Master, I did my best to escape, but the walls imprisoning me appeared invincible.” Pennyworth didn’t acknowledge her remark. “I couldn’t leave so much as a scratch on them. At the beginning, I attempted to track the passage of time, but it became more difficult as time went on. Years passed, blurring together. I feared that I would spend the rest of my life there. But then... one day, a human was placed in my enclosure with me.”
“A human?” said Touko, staring. Aloysius pulled the spoon she was holding into his mouth.
“There was a small island she could sit on in my enclosure. During the first few visits, she spoke little. I suspect she may have been newly procured. I didn't push for conversation. But then she started asking questions. How long had I been here? Was there really no way out? Slowly, we got to know each other more. I told her about myself and my old life, while she spoke about her home, full of books and knick-knacks that she considered her children. ‘I have a talent for acquiring unwanted trash, but I don’t mind. It’s all precious to me.’ Then, during one visit, she told me she could free me.”
“How?” asked Touko. "How could a regular human think to...?”
“She wasn't a regular human. She was a witch.”
Touko’s eyes boggled. Most witches had been executed following sham trials, with the rest choosing to hide away from the rest of the world to survive. They were almost as rare as mermaids.
“She wrote in the sand so we wouldn't be overheard. She said this place was at the bottom of the sea, and she need only blow a hole through the bottom of the enclosure for me to escape.” Pennyworth looked down. “I asked what of her, but she said she would not be able to escape with me. She couldn't breathe underwater. She said one of us escaping was better than neither of us escaping, but she added that she had one request: I check on her student.”
A chilly breeze swept through Touko that none of the others tensed at, as if only she could feel it. Her mouth was dry.
“She said her student lived in a cottage on a cliff by Towa Town, with a mermaid she had turned into a human. She said the mermaid was you, Young Master. I could barely believe the coincidence, but I had little to lose from following her lead. That is why I wasn’t too surprised to see that you had legs. She had informed me about it already.”
“T-That’s impossible,” said Touko, shaking.
“Indeed, I had thought it impossible for a mermaid to be turned to a human.”
“Not that.” Touko’s jaw clenched. “That witch... was my mentor. B-But she drowned more than a decade ago... How can this be?”
“Apologies, she spoke little of her past.” Pennyworth reached over the blanket to finally grab something to eat. “She cast a spell, created an opening and I fled... This was a month ago.”
“A month?”
That didn't make sense. Touko clutched her head and shook it, trembling. For a few moments, it was as though her mentor had come back to life, but as Pennyworth's tale came to an end, she felt like she had lost her mentor for a second time. The sea had regurgitated her, then swallowed her once again. Her eyes burned. So did her throat.
Aloysius tapped his hand against Touko’s arm.
“Mama, Mama,” babbled Aloysius, rousing her.
Despite losing her mentor, she still had Aloysius. And Byakuya. And her friends. And now they had Pennyworth, who if he was family to Byakuya, then he was family to her too. She breathed. She smiled softly.
“Mama’s here,” she murmured, before feeding him another spoonful. “Mama’s okay.”
Her heart fluttered as Aloysius giggled and sucked on the spoon. He was beautiful. She would have looked at him for longer had a yelp not snatched her attention.
“W-What is this?” asked Pennyworth, holding up a bit of lemon, juice dribbling down his beard.

What is As Cruel As You?
Tumblr media
As Cruel As You is a rather unfaithful AU retelling of Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls. It is an illustrated fanfiction that will be posted both here on Tumblr and on AO3. Written and illustrated by @techno-dragon , it first began creation in April of 2021, and is finally launching September 28th, 2024.
You can start reading on Tumblr here: As Cruel As You Chapter One
Also on AO3!
The hashtag used for this project and posts regarding it is #danganacay (combining "dangan" and the project's acronym)
Important things to note:
While this is referred to as a "retelling" of UDG, it is also an AU, and will very soon become very unfaithful to the source material.
Because I was introduced to Danganronpa through official translations and releases, I will be using the characters' given names rather than their family names.
I first started working on this in 2021, it's been through a lot and parts may take varying amounts of time if I find something I truly wish to revise.
Speaking of taking a long time, this fanfic is not only long but also illustrated, so updates will take much time. I expect that the entire story will take several years before it is completed. If it helps you figure it out, I'm currently transforming this work from a script format (it was originally going to be a comic) to a fully written format, and the amount of pages it has so far is 398. This will get longer as I continue to write the details.
It's very weird, but there's a reason why.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Hello im not sure if you did this before but could you share your favorite komahina fanfics 😭 I really really wanna read some but there are so many so I could use some recommendations from THE nagito fan
HI!!!! BEING CALLED THE NAGITO FAN IS SO SWEET OMG!!! okay, so, I haven't read like a MASSIVE amount of fanfics because I was nervous about reading fanfic for a long time! It's really funny because I finally gave in, and what was able to get me to actually read fanfic after being so anxious about being cringe for so long??? Breakup. I kid you not. I got broken up with and I was out here reading fanfic, specifically SONADOW FANFIC for the first time as a coping mechanism and it's just soooo funny to me.
Anyways, the point of my comical overshare is that I haven't actually read that many fanfics just yet. But! Out of the ones I've read I really love Warm Steel and Cold Hands by Fan_Seller (I swear it's good, just make sure to read the tags though or skip nsfw scenes if you're uncomfortable IF you want to read because the characterization is really wonderful) It's a post canon fanfic that's just overall really good! changed my brain chemistry fr fr if you haven't read it and you're interested I recommend it.

The other one I want to recommend is a predespair fanfic called A Little Less than Sixteen Candles by IIoer! I think Nagito at first is a bit too aggressive for my liking but the author does a good job evening it out and every scene afterwards I think is really really good and I have no issues with. I really like the fanfic overall and It's totally worth a read!! :)

hi i just wanna say i appreciate you for a few reasons!!!! first, its such a relief to see an artist with "proshippers dni" in their bio. i feel like a lot of people dont really care about that. i keep having to unfollow people for posting stuff with proship undertones lately.
ALSO, ive been following you for almost four years, and even tho we dont share a fandom anymore (i followed you for danganronpa content, lol) your blog has always been sort of safe for me. i love your chihiro art, and also your kazuichi art - some of my favorite drawings of them were done by you!

DR3 Despair Arc Intro Analysis?
(Ignore the menu overlays, I was too lazy to figure out how to get rid of them.)
1.
Tumblr media
Take note of the pink lines passing behind the characters.
2.
Tumblr media
Same here.
3.
Tumblr media
Revolver cylinder.
Nagito is like a failed clone of Makoto. That's as in-depth as I'm going to get for this shot right now, but maybe I'll revisit it later when I have more energy. Feels like the lack of extraneous details means Something.
4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note the crosshair/gun sights, going along with the revolver imagery. That dangan sure can ronpa. The lines sort of go over the characters here, but not enough to really seem important.
5.
Tumblr media
MORE LINES
6.
Tumblr media
It's the pink lines again. For the first time, we have lines that fully go over something rather than under it.
In this shot, they cross over Junko and the silhouette of Hope's Peak.
7.
Tumblr media
I like the choice to put Mukuro behind Junko. Very "the sixteenth student lying hidden somewhere in this school."
Tumblr media
And now we've got a line that crosses over Mukuro but not Junko, just as the former disappears.
Right after this, there's text that reads "Are you ready?" but I didn't include it because, frankly, it didn't seem very important.
8.
Tumblr media
The lines go behind Junko again.
9.
Tumblr media
Some weird shit going on with the lines here. The pink ones are behind everyone, obviously, but the black lines falling in the wake of the characters are... something else?
I think this shot (+ the bit I didn't screenshot that has more characters in it) might only contain the characters that become Remnants, but I can't tell who the really small ones are, and I don't have enough time or energy to keep squinting at my screen for that long.
10.
Tumblr media
hope?
11.
Tumblr media
despair?
12.
Tumblr media
This is a fun one. They're doing a Monokuma thing. Also, these particular colors link them to the hope/despair bit just now.
I'd like to point out the pink line crossing over Izuru but passing behind Hajime.
13.
Tumblr media
Love a good dot matrix.
14.
Tumblr media
In reference to Chisa's death, I think.
15.
Tumblr media
The lines return. Notably, when looking at these shots in sequence, it seems to indicate that the Chisa in screenshot 15 is "dead," while the Chisa in screenshot 13 is "alive."
A pink line cuts across the dead one.
16.
Tumblr media
This silhouette of Chiaki has lines both in front of and behind her. Weird.
Also, after the first episode, all of her silhouettes are replaced with her full appearance, but I didn't feel like getting more screenshots. Don't think there's any particular significance to that, but felt like I should write it down anyways.
17.
Tumblr media
Here, they cut across the silhouette of Hope's Peak again.
18.
Tumblr media
And then behind Chiaki again. In the post-episode 1 version, it's a bit clearer that she turns to face the viewer here.
So what does any of that mean? (Aside from the revolver and Monokuma-duality stuff that I might revisit some other time.)
Mostly, I'm focusing on the pink lines (which are colored sort of similarly to blood, maybe?).
The lines cross over dead characters and cross behind alive ones, more or less.
They go over Junko once, then over Mukuro and behind Junko (Mukuro dies first.). They go over Izuru and behind Hajime, possibly alluding to the thing that happens with those two at the end of SDR2. From screenshots 13 to 15, Chisa is alive (with lines behind her), then dies (the screenshot with the text), and subsequently is dead (one line now crossing in front of her).
In screenshot 16, one of the lines crosses over Chiaki, but in screenshot 18, it's behind her. Might be worth noting that this is similar to some prior shots of Junko (6 and 7), and that Chiaki and Junko have a Schrodinger's Cat thing going on.
In a sense, they're both "dead" from pretty much the very beginning of their respective games (Mukuro-as-Junko getting speared, real-life Chiaki... also getting speared). They both die pre-SDR2 but "come back" in AI form via the NWP. They're both the final executions in their respective games. They're both associated with one of the two Little Mascot Guys (Monokuma and Monomi), and they share color motifs with their mascot counterparts. Their lives (and deaths) have significant impacts on the world around them, especially when it comes to their classmates. Et cetera.
I don't have a snappy conclusion to end this post with. I just think the intro has some neat stuff going on. Stay tuned for more vague analysis (maybe, if I ever figure out how to properly phrase that one post I've had in my drafts for a month.)
