No your logic does not make sense, this is clearly a sign of a new Stardew Valley update.
Also, say hi to Eggzula

Okay but like
What the hell is this. A blue egg. A fucking blue egg.
Is it rotten or just a new Stardew Valley atualization? An upgrade maybe?

Barre 2 Barre SG Interview Series: Camilla (Part XIII)
This week, we interview one of our first and most dedicated Barre 2 Barre clients. Camilla has religiously attended class, participated in studio events and challenges, and been a loving, supportive, and enthusiastic member of our Barre 2 Barre community since the beginning, so we thought it would be lovely to hear about and share her barre journey!
Tumblr media
1) How were you introduced to barre and what was your first barre class like?
The Singapore branch of Barre 2 Barre first opened its doors a few months after I relocated to Singapore from Europe. A friend brought me to the charming studio in Hongkong Street - as I didn't really know anyone or anything, I was eager to try out most things she suggested. Besides, I was intrigued by her promise of a boutique concept offering equal measures of sweat and community vibes. I did ballet as a child, and for the past fifteen years or so, I've regularly attended yoga and pilates classes, so what my friend explained as a blend of the three seemed like an altogether familiar and alluring idea. What I hadn't expected was just how hooked I'd get during that first class. All of it just felt so right: the bright, clean and cosy space, the friendly-looking girls on the mats around me, the focus on alignment and keeping a good posture, those minuscule, precise movements of most muscles in the body, the patience and endurance required from the intense sets, the extremely satisfying stretches - not to mention the phenomenal soundtrack personally picked out by the smiling, very present teacher, who already knew my name - and mentioned it often throughout class in order to correct me, haha. Her instructions were of a guiding, physiologically founded nature - so far from the shrill commands I associated with conventional gyms. Up until this point, most fitness classes I'd ever attended had always felt impersonally demanding, noisily claustrophobic, not really for me. This, on the other hand, immediately felt energising. I was more present than I'd ever been in an exercise class setting. I was fascinated by how, by concentrating my thoughts and one body part at a time, I managed to work my entire body in one surprisingly short hour full of feminine balletic features, deep yogic harmony and some of my favourite tunes at the time (I think I asked the teacher for her playlist afterwards!). Needless to say, I came back the day after again, and the next day after that, and the next...
2) What does barre do for you physically? What keeps you returning to class regularly?
The weights we use at barre are small (1-2kg) but when you stretch your arms out and make tiny circles with those weights and move them up and down or rotate them ever so slightly for a few minutes, you start to feel the burn - and become aware of just how many muscles live in your arms, shoulders, back! I love the intense core work with a strap wrapped around the barre, the romantic aspect of feeling like a ballerina when releve’ing my feet whilst touching the barre with elegantly stretched arms, having my legs and butt challenged with exercises involving a soft ball, just as the trampoline classes always make me giggle from start to finish... Most of all, I like the focus of barre on how you can train your body with very few props; simply by being mindful and patient in your poses. I have, or had, this tendency to always slouch when sitting, walking and running. The barre focus on alignment and keeping a good posture straightens out my back and strengthens me beyond class. I love it when the teachers make you imagine a flow of energy running through your aligned body. Ahilya always does this blissful body scan at the end of class, where she makes you imagine that you've got warm honey flowing around in your muscles, bones and joints. That mindful element. When I'm in class, I think of nothing else, and I think that's what exercise is about: finding that or those activities which does that for you. At night, my boyfriend always asks me, 'what is your favourite moment from today?' - or, actually, he stopped doing that over a year ago, because my answer always had something to do with barre, haha. The exercises, the general ambiance, an insight after class, interacting with fellow barrerinas. I like the athletic shape that barre has put me in, but what's addictive about it goes far beyond that. Somehow, unless I'm travelling or sick, I always have time for a weekday class (or two; in one Christmas challenge, I believe it was four!). When travelling, I'll usually check out classes at local barre studios, and as such, I've met wonderfully dedicated teachers and different types of methods and styles in Hong Kong (also Barre 2 Barre), Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay, Santa Barbara, London and Copenhagen. Conveniently, the Singapore studio is just around the corner from my office, which makes it easy to pop in for a morning, noon or after-work class, and, miraculously, studios are always just around the corner from wherever I am staying when abroad. ;)
Tumblr media
3) You met with an unfortunate knee injury last year. What was your experience with barre during and after it?
Now, a year after my ACL was reconstructed and both my meniscus repaired, the teachers still ask my regularly how my knee is doing - so sweet and thoughtful. A few months after the surgery, when I could start attending classes again, they kindly modified exercises to slowly get me back on track. With weeks of complete immobility, the shape that barre had put me in during the preceding nine months was definitely the reason why my quad didn't disappear completely; why the muscles and ligaments in my injured knee, as well as in my entire legs and hips, were so strong and flexible and I got back in the swing of things so quickly again. It was also a great form of rehab due to all of the careful and precise holistic exercises, which were very much in line with what my physiotherapist prescribed. Also, it was the thing I missed the most in my time on the couch covered in ice and painkillers because of the great general workout, atmosphere and people.
4) You're a long-time committed student at Barre 2 Barre. What are some of your recent discoveries this far into your barre journey? Are there things you've learned or experienced in barre that apply to other areas of your life?
After nearly two years, every class is still super tough and rewarding. There is always something new to learn and something familiar to perfect even further. Sit down one inch lower (in a broad wide second position with your feet and knees perfectly aligned towards 10 and 2 o'clock), come up one inch higher on your toes (distribute your weight equally on all toes!), look straight (when you're busy circling, pulsing and balancing various parts of your body simultaneously), hold your arms stick-straight and keep them in your peripheral vision (with those 'light' weights in your hands), lengthen your tailbone down towards your feet (no arching of the back!), square your hips down towards the mat (imagine your hips are headlights!). The barre 2 barre teachers are all very creative, observant and good at giving individual feedback - via verbal cues, touching you lightly or chatting to you after class. As for Jess, who manages the studio, I'm constantly inspired by how passionate she is - always incorporating new exercises into her routines while simultaneously organising cool events and collaborations with everything from local charities to creative startups to large corporations. I first met one of my best Singaporean friends when she was displaying her sustainable fashion designs in the studio (I won one of her beautiful dresses in a barre challenge, haha!). Recently, I've realised that I would like to take it to the next stage, explore my fascination with barre on a deeper level, in terms of the physiological workings and benefits of each exercise as well as sharing that knowledge with others, and have signed up for Barre 2 Barre's upcoming BarreAmped Certification in Thailand. So excited about that! Whether it's the alignment of body and mind, or the idea of immersing yourself in something that's good for you, or spending time with people who energise and inspire you, or simply making an effort: there are so many beneficial aspects to barre that most certainly apply to my life in general - both privately and professionally. The fact that you can experience all of that whilst wearing comfy yoga pants and listening to nice music are just icing on the cake.
Tumblr media
5) Who would you recommend barre to?
Absolutely everyone - which I also do! I've dragged my boyfriend (multiple times!), friends living in Singapore as well as friends visiting from Europe and Australia along, and every single time, I've enjoyed seeing how surprised each and everyone is at how incredibly hard the classes are. Most of them find it fun and fascinating as well, fortunately. With class levels ranging from basic to advanced and some focussing particularly on yoga, pilates, cardio, dance or firing up your big muscle groups, there's something to most tastes. As such, I would recommend it to anyone who cares about their wellbeing - who wishes to immerse her-/himself in a very mindful way of exercising and stretching her/his entire body. It's suitable for most ages and fitness levels, and especially if you have issues with one or more areas of your body. There always are modifications available in case you are recovering from injuries, pregnant or otherwise in need of special attention.
6) What else is part of your fitness, nutrition, or wellness routine/philosophy to support your barre practice?
I like running and swimming as cardio supplements allowing me to relax my mind, see sights when abroad and really feel the benefits of the strength obtained through barre, just as I bike and walk everywhere possible (and sometimes impossible (I'm looking at you, bike-lane-less roads of central Singapore!)). I aspire to keep exercise as the opposite of a stressfactor, something that doesn't require too much planning, is a natural part of my day and keeps me equilibrated rather than exhausted. On weekends, my boyfriend and I will go kayaking or do yoga at a local studio or at home, whether it's in Singapore or elsewhere. Lately, we got a basketball, which we play around with at the local community centre. I'm not any good, but it's fun and it does help training my sense of precision, endurance and balance. In general, what's important to me when it comes to wellbeing is trying to maintain a sense of harmony by listening to my body and how much, how, when and why it wants to move, stretch and be nourished. We subscribe to a weekly veggie box from an organic farm in Indonesia, which 'forces' us to cook healthy vegetarian meals several times a week. As we travel and in general eat out a lot, it's important to us to at least know what we put into our bodies when we can - and know where the ingredients came from and what effort goes into preparing them. Even when eating out, I try to steer clear of synthetic or overly processed or fatty foods and instead stick to lean options of sustainably grown veggies, grains and fruits or meat from animals I think have led a happy life. They're mutually reinforcing: you don't want to come to barre feeling heavy, bloated or dizzy because you haven't been eating well, just as it would be a shame to ruin the great feeling that barre gives you by filling your body with bad stuff. I'm not a fanatic though: I do like to drink wine after work or at the weekends - or a few cocktails at the monthly Barre 2 Bar events. Lastly, since moving to Asia, I go for reflexology at least once a week - I've been to at least 20 different parlours all over Singapore, and find it quite extraordinary what they can do... pamper my feet between all of the renovation, flexing and pointing they're exposed to at barre, haha.

Loving your lady parts as a path to success, power & global change: Alisa Vitti at TEDxFiDiWomen
Tumblr media
Translator: Monika Kapuscinska Reviewer: Reiko Bovee I’ve waited all day to get my hands on you. So, I wish to take you back to the place I used to be about 14 years ago. I was once a student at Johns Hopkins tuition, and that i was once in a position to begin my existence, I was once planning to come to be OB/GYN. And my body, immediately, went into complete hormonal collapse. And as a result, so did my lifestyles, absolutely dysfunctional. I couldn’t get up, couldn’t go to sleep, couldn’t have any power. It used to be a non-discontinue nightmare to wake up now not recognizing your self and now not understanding how to reside in the physique that you simply had.I want you to image me. I particularly do want you to appear. (Laughter) I used to be 200 pounds. I do know, proper? Included face, chest, back, fingers, at any place that you simply would put, in painful cystic acne. It could take me half an hour within the morning of cautious uncomfortable application of make-up to take a look at to move outside. I used to be depressed; I used to be exhausted; i would menstruate as soon as a yr, and no person had any concept what was incorrect with me. It had been getting step by step worse from concerning the age of 15. And i used to be getting progressively more curious and frustrated. And in one of my insomniac moments I used to be at the library, of path, science nerd, horny scientist, i would like to assert. Learning in probably the most obstetrics journals. And i noticed this small gain knowledge of on a disease known as Stein-Leventhal ailment. It used to be named after the gentleman who labeled this grouping of signs. I stated, "Oh my god, I match this description to a tee." So I felt very naughty, but I ripped off the document, and the following morning I very vigorously marched into my gynecologist administrative center. With out an appointment, of path, first thing within the morning, i am like, "hi, so I believe I simply figured out what’s been mistaken with me for the final seven years, and i might like a transvaginal ultrasound right now!" She checked out me, "How have you learnt what that’s?" and that i said, "Let’s do this confirmatory test and let’s have a look at." I stated, "i’m not leaving here until we do it." So we did it.And she stated, "seem at that! You do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Correctly, you were proper!" And being a now-what-answer variety of woman I stated, "So now what? What will we do?" "Now i do know what it is eventually! Now what?" She said, "well…" and i’ll by no means disregard sitting in that chair in her administrative center. She said, "you will have a future laid out forward of you of obesity, diabetes, infertility, coronary heart disorder, and melanoma. And we are going to medicate you along the way, so do not worry." and i take into account sitting in that chair. And it wasn’t out of anger, or a sense of victimhood; there was no fight; it used to be just on a cell degree; my entire being stated, "No, thanks," and that i stated to her, "thank you very so much to your opinion. I will take my very expensively knowledgeable Hopkins intellect and go determine this out." So that is what I did. And i apprenticed myself with all types of healers, and that i used to be doing all types of enjoyable experiments. I had became orange from consuming so much carrot juice at one factor. My lady friend at the moment – she’s still my nice buddy – she grabbed me and she or he stated, "you could have became orange. It’s time to stop this test." And "I have to finish this experiment!" (Laughter) None of these experiments made any trade in my signs at all. After which, about ten years ago, what was coming to the forefront in dietary science used to be this notion of nutritional genomics that you would use meals to control gene expression. Oh, I used to be so grew to become on via this. I stated, well if that’s viable, if meals could come to a decision– , in a set of twins, if the food plan in one twin can make a decision how her wellbeing goes to occur versus her identical twin with an additional weight loss program, one-of-a-kind issues, what am i able to do with food to recalibrate my hormonal procedure? And that is when I dove into my study and studied functional treatment, opted-out, freaked out my parents, did not emerge as a general practitioner, and alternatively grew to be a functional nutritionist and developed this 5-step nutritional protocol that rebooted my whole endocrine method as you will see how glorious I seem now. (Applause) (Laughter) And opened my core in mid-town ny 9 years in the past and started treating different ladies with equivalent stipulations: menstrual issues, fertility problems, low vigor, low libido. They usually’d come into my middle, limping with these disorders, periods out of whack, could not get pregnant in the event that they’ve tried 17 instances, cannot perform, are not able to do not forget the last time when they notion about sex, or pleasure, or anything. And in a similar way, their lives were additionally untethered, uncentered; they weren’t, they didn’t have their middle point. And we’d apply the protocol, and their wellbeing problems would get to the bottom of themselves, remarkable matters for me as a scientist, like a girl with out a period for 17 years she’d must go to the doctor as soon as a 12 months to be precipitated with progesterone to have a bleed. She menstruates monthly now. And we’re shut acquaintances, I just in finding that whole story so interesting. Another woman came in on beginning manipulate, on Prozac, in a job she hated, in a relationship she hated. We received her off all of these drugs, of course, with the aid of her doctor, and six months later she wrote me and she stated, "by the way, feeling fine," – that used to be a given – and stated, "Moved to L.A. And have gotten my first screenwriter job, and the show that i’m writing for is now being in syndication." Love that. An additional woman had two firms, had all kind of matters going on in her lifestyles, confidential Pilates customers in ny, very fancy, had her possess studio in Greenwich, Connecticut; husband was in transition in his profession. And he or she used to be having erratic cycles. She’s in her mid-30s. We applied the protocol to her body. And quite simply – that is the section that I style of get desirous about – effortlessly, her physique restored itself. Bear in mind that game, join 4? I really like that game, I used to play that at all times with my brother. So, you already know, her whole lifestyles just started lining up. She simply let go of these consumers in ny, allowed one among her companions on the studio to take on extra responsibility. And she or he realized that she had been hanging off having a little one for a long way too long, and was capable to conceive naturally for that reason of the work which was so interesting to look. And, of direction, being any individual who is desirous about biology, i like the concept that she was once healing herself of these signs, all of these ladies. However the larger discovery used to be that if a woman is in line, in alignment, in harmony with that inner ecosystem that she has, that starts offevolved to impregnate the ecology of her complete existence. With this thought of transformation; your body is a transformation agent. After which that may start to impact the relaxation of your existence. So entertaining. And that is after I fell in love; I stated, "Oh, my God." here we’re, we’re running around with these blueprints in our bodies that inform us the right way to live and work in a technique that is within the drift of our bodies. And if we are able to emerge as fluent within the language of our biochemistry, and our physiology, this grouping of glands and organs – that I wish to call lady constituents – that we can have access to an unlimited supply of vigor, and vitality, and readability, and unwavering rationale.I mean I was entirely hooked. So, Aldous Huxley once said that man is an intelligence simply in servitude to his organs. And i thought, that’s unhappy, that we appear at being in our our bodies as this style of slavery situated trap that we must care for. And i’ve relatively rather located that ladies who get into partnership with their our bodies turn out to be fitting the fullest expression of themselves, and dwelling as leaders and change dealers of their lives and communities. So let me introduce you to your woman materials. I simply can not support myself. If i’m on stage i’ll talk about woman materials, i’ll let you know about them. I need you to as a minimum go residence figuring out what they are. (Laughter) Nothing else. So, there are two matters i need you to know. First is the physiological constitution for your body referred to as the endocrine method. Six glands. Hypothalamus in the midbrain, pituitary gland nestled shut by, thyroid, right here, pancreas, right here, adrenals, here, ovaries, right here. They work in an interconnected approach making sure that your body has what it desires to function: mind, heart, muscle, tissue, hormones. Fascinating. They usually’re so particularly sensitive. Hypothalamus works with this thing called bad bio-feedback so any time that anything occurs, the temperature alterations external, hypothalamus picks that up, pituitary gland sends a message to the thyroid, instantly, you are adjusting to the temperature. You didn’t have to do a factor. You had been merely enjoying the climate. Love that. Genius. Simplest in a physique might that occur. Anyway, then there may be this physiological structure: your hormonal ratios; you might have four of them that occur in a single month cycle. And it’s fairly interesting, when you consider that we simplest ever reference that in an awfully normal way: "I wish to get pregnant," or "i do not wish to get pregnant." that’s how we reference these hormonal ratios. The ovulation one is kind of the most famous. And the interval, the menstrual section is essentially the most notorious. But there are 4. There are a few others. So i need you to begin to suppose about the place you might be in that cycle. And here are the 4 phases. First you’ve gotten the follicular section, fascinating segment. And neurochemically these hormonal ratios exchange your brain chemistry. So you are an extra person, week over week within a month. Yeah, you already know. (Laughter) In that follicular section, where the eggs are type of coming up to maturity; one is going to make it to the Fallopian tube, very entertaining time. (Laughter) Neurochemically speakme, you have the most entry to creative vigor that you’re going to have the entire month. Conveniently. This can be a ideal time to start new initiatives: mastermind, plan, dream gigantic, all of that. Within the ovulatory phase, which we all know very well, so i am not going to dive into it.Within the ovulatory phase, we’ve got the high-quality verbal exchange competencies and the most power that we can have all the month. That is without doubt a time to have foremost conversations. Would it not be genius if you happen to would plan to ask for a raise when you are ovulating? (Laughter) Whoever is making an attempt to not provide the raise is like, "Please take the money. You’re so irresistible." (Laughter) Or go on a first date, or have an predominant dialog together with your partner. Or inform your mother whatever you quite need her to say yes to. You are only a magnet at the moment. In a luteal section, B nutrients are being referred to as into motion, in view that the lining is thickening, and it’s a very energized method. But we come to be very element oriented at this time. So that shoe closet you couldn’t get to prepare earlier than, that is the week.Detail oriented duties are very convenient to do. Are trying not to plan them in the different two weeks. In the fourth segment, the menstrual phase, that is the time of the month while you in reality have the most energetic dialog between the correct and the left hemispheres of the brain. So strong! So, if you are looking into direction proper, assessment your lifestyles in the past 30 days, how you probably did this month, this will be the time to do it. You’re most competent to acquire those gut feeling body messages. So, take detect, take a moment to take discover at the moment. Gloria Steinem stated, when she was speaking about the film, "miss representation" which i love, she stated, "ladies are taught to view their our bodies as never-ending projects to work on, whereas, boys from a younger age are taught to view their bodies as tools to grasp their environment." I literally fell off my chair once I heard her say that.Considering the fact that is not that the truth? We, as ladies, get on this hamster wheels of self-development and self sabotage. And we don’t gain knowledge of about these important, real bodily buildings in our our bodies that provide us this blueprint to how one can prepare our lives. I imply, when you truly adhere to the map you learn precisely what you must devour, when you will have to devour it, the way you should move your physique, the way you must organize social commitments, work priorities. It’s all laid out for you. You do not have got to consider, or do, or push, or struggle. It’s simply there for you. And sadly, the environment is a little bit studying us correct now.Girl’s bodies are in hormonal breakdown in epidemic proportions. I think it is 20 million women in the Unites States undergo from endometriosis, fibroid, PCOS… In 2009, 1.42 billion dollars were spent on infertility remedies. Rates of idiopathic "no-identified" motive of infertility are on the rise in each men and women. Cancers of the reproductive organs are on the upward push in men and women. Medicines are being prescribed, left and proper, for treatment of things that do not fairly need treatment, however relatively need a systemic process. And additionally it is intriguing, considering that we’re additionally in a very equally interesting ancient second, where we now have probably the most vigour economically and because the biggest client demographic than we’ve got ever had before. You can actually vote with your greenbacks to assert to company the usa, "hiya, i might like you to custom-fit an atmosphere for me." "i would love to see more maternal care there." So, on the center we wish to empower as many females as can to study this language, and leverage their bodies as a tool. So, I need to provide the three matters that we teach everybody. The first is you have got to fall in love. You need to be taught what these constituents do and consume to help them, so they can operate optimally for you. The 2nd factor is that you simply must commit, decide to this new relationship with your physique. I want you to plot your month, thematically, week over week, in keeping with these hormonal ratios, so to just do extra, cross educate your existence; I call it "in-physique time administration". The third thing is, i want you to start to leverage your physique as a vigour instrument. And i need you to answer the question that none of my patients can ever reply the first time I ask it of them, which is: if I were to wave a magic wand and restore your body to excellent vitality what would you do with that vigor? How would you be a transformation agent in the world? If you could start to answer that question, then we are able to really step into our roles as leaders as ladies. So, females give delivery by means of the physique. The most important act of our generation of women is going to be to be in a partnership with the body, to no longer go away it out. And i quite want to see you like your woman elements, become your life, and change the sector. I am Alisa Vitti. It is been an honor. (Applause) .

5 Neat New Things You Need To Know About Gut Health
(Natural Blaze by Lisa Egan)
Over two thousand years ago, Hippocrates said “All disease begins in the gut.”
The father of modern medicine was way ahead of his time. While gut health is not linked to every disease (as far as we currently know), continuing research into the gut microbiota is revealing just how important the communities of bacteria that reside there are to our overall health.
Bacteria coexist with us – and some do things that help us (like make vitamins, break down waste, aid in digestion, and help plants absorb nitrogen from soil). Yes, there are bacteria that are dangerous (like the ones that cause tuberculosis, cholera, and Lyme disease), but most of the bacteria in your body is rendered harmless by your immune system.
You have trillions of cells in your body – and it is estimated that you have about the same amount of (some estimates say 10x more) microorganisms in your gut!

Research suggests that the relationship between gut flora and humans is a mutualistic, symbiotic relationship. This means that it is a mutually beneficial relationship – the microbes need us, and we need them.
Microbiome 101: Understanding Gut Microbiota explains just how important these microbes are:
The communities in our microbiome carry out a variety of functions which are vital to not only our health and well-being but our very survival.
Starting with our immune system, our microbiome establishes the parameters in which our bodies judge whether or not something is friend or foe. It maintains harmony, balance, and order amongst its own communities, ensuring that opportunistic pathogens are kept to a minimum, while also keeping the host system from attacking itself.
It is our first, second and third line of defense – starting with our skin, then our mucus membranes, and finally our gut, providing a living barrier that is able to be modified and transformed to suit individual needs and unique environments.
Our gut microbiota is fundamental to the breakdown and absorption of nutrients. Without it, the majority of our food intake would not only be indigestible, but we would not be capable of extracting the critical nutritional compounds needed to function. Our symbiotic cohorts not only provide this service, but also secrete beneficial chemicals as a natural part of their metabolic cycle.
As you can see, research into what the microbiota does for us, and how we can keep it healthy, is of utmost importance. There are so many studies being published on a regular basis that it’s hard to keep up.

Here are summaries of some recent research findings.
1. Common Antimicrobial Agent Rapidly Disrupts Gut Bacteria
This study’s findings suggest that triclosan, an antimicrobial and antifungal agent found in many consumer products ranging from hand soaps to toys and even toothpaste, can rapidly disrupt bacterial communities found in the gut.
The researchers found that triclosan exposure caused rapid changes in both the diversity and composition of the microbiome in the laboratory animals. It’s not yet clear what the implications may be for human health, but scientists believe that compromising of the bacteria in the intestinal tract may contribute to the development or severity of disease.
Christopher Gaulke, lead author on the study and a postdoctoral microbiology researcher in the OSU College of Science, explains:
Clearly there may be situations where antibacterial agents are needed.
However, scientists now have evidence that intestinal bacteria may have metabolic, cardiovascular, autoimmune and neurological impacts, and concerns about overuse of these agents are valid. Cumulative impacts are also possible. We need to do significantly more evaluation of their effects, some of which might be dramatic and long lasting.
2. Immune System Uses Gut Bacteria to Control Glucose Metabolism
Researchers at Oregon State University and other institutions have discovered an important link between the immune system, gut bacteria and glucose metabolism – a “cross-talk” and interaction that can lead to type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome when not functioning correctly.
The researchers say a better understanding of these systems may lead to new probiotic approaches to diabetes and other diseases. The findings also show the  general importance of proper bacterial functions in the gut and the role of one bacteria in particular – Akkermansia muciniphila – in helping to regulate glucose metabolism.
This bacteria’s function is so important, scientists say, that it has been conserved through millions of years of evolution to perform a similar function in both mice and humans.
There’s probably more than one bacteria involved in this process of communication and metabolic control, researchers said. The gut harbors literally thousands of microbes that appear to function almost as a metabolically active organ, emphasizing the critical importance of gut bacterial health.
Dr. Natalia Shulzhenko, an assistant professor in the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine and one of the corresponding authors on this study, said of the findings:
It’s being made clear by a number of studies that our immune system, in particular, is closely linked to other metabolic functions in ways we never realized. This is still unconventional thinking, and it’s being described as a new field called immunometabolism. Through the process of evolution, mammals, including humans, have developed functional systems that communicate with each other, and microbes are an essential part of that process.

3. High-Fiber Diet Keeps Gut Microbes From Eating the Colon’s Lining, Protects Against Infection, Animal Study Shows
When microbes inside the digestive system don’t get the natural fiber that they rely on for food, they will rely on the natural layer of mucus that lines the gut instead – eroding it to the point where dangerous invading bacteria can infect the colon wall. Yikes!
“The lesson we’re learning from studying the interaction of fiber, gut microbes and the intestinal barrier system is that if you don’t feed them, they can eat you,” Eric Martens, Ph.D, one of the study’s lead researchers, explained.
“To make it simple, the ‘holes’ created by our microbiota while eroding the mucus serve as wide open doors for pathogenic micro-organisms to invade,” said Mahesh Desai, Ph.D, who led the research with Martens.
Martens provided a bit of advice based on the findings:
While this work was in mice, the take-home message from this work for humans amplifies everything that doctors and nutritionists have been telling us for decades: Eat a lot of fiber from diverse natural sources. Your diet directly influences your microbiota, and from there it may influence the status of your gut’s mucus layer and tendency toward disease. But it’s an open question of whether we can cure our cultural lack of fiber with something more purified and easy to ingest than a lot of broccoli.
4. Gut Bacteria Affect Our Metabolism
Our gut microbiota has been linked to obesity in many studies. Mice that receive gut bacteria transplants from overweight humans are known to gain more weight than mice transplanted with gut bacteria from normal weight subjects, even when the mice are fed the same diet.
A new, larger study conducted by the National Food Institute confirmed those findings, and the researchers also investigated how the spread of bacteria between individual mice affects their digestion/metabolism.
Professor Tine Rask Licht explains:
The bacterial community in the intestine of mice with the smallest weight gain has been less capable of converting dietary fibre in the feed, which partly explains the difference in weight between the animals.
In addition, the study shows that the gut bacterial composition affects a number of other measurements, which have to do with the ability of the mice to convert carbohydrates and fats, and which affect the development of diseases such as type 2 diabetes (e.g. levels of insulin and tryglycerides). The researchers caution that it cannot be concluded that bacterial communities from the overweight children affects the mice in a specific direction in relation to the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

5. Gut Microbes Contribute to Recurrent ‘Yo-Yo’ Obesity
Following a successful diet, many people regain the weight lost – an all-too-common phenomenon known as “recurrent” or “yo-yo” obesity. The vast majority of recurrently obese individuals not only rebound to their pre-dieting weight but also gain more weight with each dieting cycle. During each round of dieting-and-weight-regain, their proportion of body fat increases, and so does the risk of developing the manifestations of metabolic syndrome, including adult-onset diabetes, fatty liver, and other obesity-related diseases.
Researchers at the Weizmann Institute of Science found that the gut microbiome plays an important role in post-dieting weight gain, and that by altering the composition or function of the microbiome this common phenomenon may prevented or treated.
The study was performed by research teams headed by Dr. Eran Elinav of the Immunology Department and Prof. Eran Segal of the Computer Science and Applied Mathematics Department. The researchers found that after a cycle of gaining and losing weight, all the mice’s body systems fully reverted to normal – except the microbiome. For about six months after losing weight, post-obese mice retained an abnormal “obese” microbiome.
“We’ve shown in obese mice that following successful dieting and weight loss, the microbiome retains a ‘memory’ of previous obesity,” says Elinav. “This persistent microbiome accelerated the regaining of weight when the mice were put back on a high-calorie diet or ate regular food in excessive amounts.” Segal elaborates: “By conducting a detailed functional analysis of the microbiome, we’ve developed potential therapeutic approaches to alleviating its impact on weight regain.”
The findings of this study are fascinating and promising. I highly recommend reading the entire press release here.

The Alkaline Diet regime: Is There Evidence That an Alkaline pH Diet program Rewards Well being?
Pro Gene Water Summary This evaluation seems at the role of an alkaline diet regime in health. Pubmed was searched looking for articles on pH, prospective renal acid loads, bone well being, muscle mass, growth hormone, back again discomfort, vitamin D and chemotherapy. Numerous guides written in the lay literature on the alkaline diet program were also reviewed and evaluated in mild of the released medical literature. There may possibly be some value in thinking about an alkaline diet in minimizing morbidity and mortality from persistent illnesses and even more research are warranted in this spot of drugs. one. History Life on earth depends on appropriate pH amounts in and about living organisms and cells. Human daily life demands a tightly managed pH degree in the serum of about 7.four (a somewhat alkaline range of seven.35 to seven.forty five) to endure [1]. As a comparison, in the previous 100 several years with increasing industrialization, the pH of the ocean has dropped from 8.two to eight.one due to the fact of growing CO2 deposition. This has a unfavorable impact on daily life in the ocean [one, two] and could direct to the collapse of the coral reefs [3]. Even the pH of the soil in which crops are grown can have considerable influence on the mineral content material of the food we consume (as minerals are used as buffers to maintain pH). The excellent pH of soil for the greatest general availability of crucial vitamins and minerals is in between 6 and seven. Acidic soils beneath pH of six could have lowered calcium and magnesium, and soil earlier mentioned pH seven might result in chemically unavailable iron, manganese, copper and zinc. Incorporating dolomite and manure are approaches of boosting pH in an acid soil atmosphere when the pH is under 6 [4]. When it comes to the pH and net acid load in the human diet plan, there has been significant modify from the hunter get civilization to the existing [5]. With the agricultural revolution (final 10,000 many years) and even a lot more just lately with industrialization (last two hundred many years), there has been an reduce in potassium (K) when compared to sodium (Na) and an enhance in chloride in contrast to bicarbonate identified in the diet [6]. The ratio of potassium to sodium has reversed, K/Na earlier was 10 to 1 whereas the contemporary diet has a ratio of 1 to 3 [7]. It is generally acknowledged that agricultural humans nowadays have a diet bad in magnesium and potassium as effectively as fiber and abundant in saturated body fat, basic sugars, sodium, and chloride as in contrast to the preagricultural time period [six]. This final results in a diet plan that might induce metabolic acidosis which is mismatched to the genetically identified nutritional demands [8]. With ageing, there is a gradual loss of renal acid-foundation regulatory function and a resultant boost in diet plan-induced metabolic acidosis although on the modern day diet program [9]. A minimal-carbohydrate high-protein diet with its improved acid load benefits in quite tiny alter in blood chemistry, and pH, but results in several alterations in urinary chemistry. Urinary magnesium levels, urinary citrate and pH are decreased, urinary calcium, undissociated uric acid, and phosphate are elevated. All of these outcome in an elevated threat for kidney stones [ten]. Much has been written in the lay literature as well as numerous on the web internet sites expounding on the rewards of the alkaline diet. This paper is an try to balance the evidence that is located in the scientific literature. two. The Role of pH in A variety of Cells, Organs, and Membranes The pH in our body could range noticeably from 1 region to another with the maximum acidity in the stomach (pH of 1.35 to three.five) to support in digestion and shield from opportunistic microbial organisms. But even in the stomach, the layer just outside the epithelium is very fundamental to prevent mucosal harm. It has been recommended that lowered gastric lining secretion of bicarbonates and a lessen in the alkaline/acid secretion in duodenal ulcer patients may play a considerable position in duodenal ulcers [11]. The skin is really acidic (pH 4–6.five) to give an acid mantle as a protecting barrier to the atmosphere from microbial overgrowth. There is a gradient from the outer horny layer (pH four) to the basal layer (pH six.9) [12]. This is also seen in the vagina where a pH of considerably less than 4.7 protects in opposition to microbial overgrowth [thirteen]. The urine may have a variable pH from acid to alkaline depending on the want for balancing the inner atmosphere. Acid excretion in the urine can be estimated by a method described by Remer (sulfate + chloride + 1.8x phosphate + organic and natural acids) minus (sodium + potassium + 2x calcium + 2x magnesium) mEq [14]. Food items can be classified by the potential renal acid masses (PRALs) see Table 2. Fruits, greens, fruit juices, potatoes, and alkali-prosperous and low phosphorus beverages (crimson and white wine, mineral soda waters) having a negative acid load. Whilst, grain products, meats, dairy merchandise, fish, and alkali poor and lower phosphorus beverages (e.g., pale beers, cocoa) have relatively large acid masses [fifteen]. Measurement of pH of the urine (reviewed in a modern review with two morning specimens carried out above a five-12 months span) did not predict bone fractures or reduction of bone mineral density [16]. Nonetheless, this could not be reflective of becoming on an alkaline or acid diet regime through this time. 3. Continual Acidosis and Bone Ailment Calcium in the type of phosphates and carbonates represents a big reservoir of base in our entire body. In response to an acid load such as the present day diet these salts are released into the systemic circulation to carry about pH homeostasis [7]. It has been approximated that the quantity of calcium missing in the urine with the contemporary diet above time could be as higher as nearly 480 gm above 20 many years or nearly 50 % the skeletal mass of calcium [21]. Nonetheless, urinary losses of calcium are not a direct measure of osteoporosis. There are several regulatory factors that may possibly compensate for the urinary calcium loss. When the arterial pH is in the typical variety, a mild reduction of plasma bicarbonate benefits in a adverse calcium balance which could gain from supplementing bicarbonate in the sort of potassium bicarbonate [22]. It has been found that bicarbonate, which boosts the alkali articles of a diet program, but not potassium may attenuate bone reduction in healthier older grownups [23]. The bone minerals that are wasted in the urine might not have full payment by way of intestinal absorption, which is believed to end result in osteoporosis. Even so, satisfactory vitamin D with a 25(OH)D level of >80 nmol/L may possibly allow for appropriate intestinal absorption of calcium and magnesium and phosphate when needed [24]. Regrettably, most populations are generally deficient in vitamin D specifically in northern climates [25]. In continual renal failure, correction of metabolic acidosis with bicarbonate substantially increases parathyroid ranges and amounts of the lively kind of vitamin D one,25(OH)2D3 [26]. Not too long ago, a study has shown the value of phosphate in Remer's PRAL system. In accordance to the system it would be anticipated that an boost in phosphate ought to outcome in an enhance in urinary calcium decline and a unfavorable calcium harmony in bone [27]. It ought to be mentioned that supplementation with phosphate in clients with bed relaxation decreased urinary calcium excretion but did not prevent bone loss [28]. The most recent systematic evaluation and meta-investigation has shown that calcium balance is preserved and improved with phosphate which is fairly opposite to the acid-ash speculation [29]. As properly a recent examine searching at soda ingestion (which has a important sum of phosphate) and osteoporosis in postmenopausal American initial nations girls did not uncover a correlation [30]. It is quite feasible that the substantial acid material according to Remer's classification requirements to be looked at once again in gentle of compensatory phosphate ingestion. There is on-line information marketing an alkaline diet plan for bone overall health as well as a number of books. Even so, a recent systematic evaluation of the literature hunting for evidence supporting the alkaline diet program for bone well being identified no protecting function of nutritional acid load in osteoporosis [31]. One more factor of the modern diet plan is the excessive of sodium in the diet. There is proof that in healthier people the improved sodium in the diet plan can predict the diploma of hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis when consuming a web acid producing diet program [32]. As well, there is evidence that there are adverse effects of sodium chloride in the getting older inhabitants. A higher sodium diet plan will exacerbate disuse-induced bone and muscle mass reduction in the course of immobilization by escalating bone resorption and protein squandering [33]. Extra dietary sodium has been shown to outcome in hypertension and osteoporosis in females [34, 35]. As effectively, dietary potassium which is lacking in the present day diet would modulate pressor and hypercalciuric results of excess of sodium chloride [36]. Excessive dietary protein with higher acid renal load might decrease bone density if not buffered by ingestion of supplements or meals that are alkali prosperous [37]. Even so, ample protein is required for avoidance of osteoporosis and sarcopenia for that reason, growing the amount of fruit and vegetables may be necessary fairly than lowering protein [38]. four. Alkaline Diet programs and Muscle As we age, there is a decline of muscle mass mass, which may predispose to falls and fractures. A 3-12 months research seeking at a diet plan rich in potassium, such as fruits and vegetables, as nicely as a reduced acid load, resulted in preservation of muscle mass in older gentlemen and girls [39]. Circumstances such as long-term renal failure that result in continual metabolic acidosis outcome in accelerated breakdown in skeletal muscle mass [40]. Correction of acidosis may possibly protect muscle mass in situations in which muscle mass losing is typical such as diabetic ketosis, trauma, sepsis, continual obstructive lung ailment, and renal failure [41]. In conditions that outcome in acute acidosis, supplementing younger individuals with sodium bicarbonate prior to exhaustive workout resulted in significantly much less acidosis in the blood than people that were not supplemented with sodium bicarbonate.

Bajan Newscap 8/11/2017
Good Morning #realdreamchasers. Here is your daily news cap for Friday , August 11TH, 2017. There is a lot to read and digest so take your time. Remember you can read full articles via Barbados Today (BT), or by purchasing a Weekend Nation Newspaper (WN).
Tumblr media
CLICO ‘VICTIMS’ PARRIS, STUART AND SINCKLER AMONG 20,000 TO RECEIVE PAYMENT - Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and his close friend, former CLICO boss Leroy Parris, are among a list of 20,000 policyholders set to partake in the millions to be transferred to the two new companies which are to take over the CLICO business – New Life Investment Company Inc (NLICO) and Resolution Life Insurance Limited (ResLife) – as the process begins towards a long-awaited settlement. The massive list also shows a number of other prominent Barbadians, ranging from politicians, to lawyers, and present and past police officers. Today’s publication was an update from the judicial manager of CLICO International Life (CIL) Deloitte Consulting Limited confirming active policies and outstanding claims as at June 30, 2017.
In a 120-page advertisement, the judicial manager informed policyholders and claimants to verify their information. The judicial manager also asked active policyholders and claimants as at June 30, 2017 who did not see their names on the list, to contact CIL to make an appointment. They are asked to bring their original policy and or claim information to the head office on Walrond Street in Bridgetown. On the list are also close to 400 names for death claims. Of significant note is a policy in the name of Leroy Parris listed under the category ‘Surrenders’ but in care of his wife Faye Wharton-Parris among the 200-plus names under that category. Following the transfer, those who opted for the surrender option, as well as pensioners and matured policies are expected to receive payments.
Chairperson of the Barbados Investor and Policyholders Alliance (BIPA) June Fowler had told Barbados TODAY there has to be a 90-day period for the publication and verification of policyholder information, following the High Court’s approval, which took place last week. After that, she said, there would be a waiting period  of up to four weeks – the transfer should take place after the second week if there are no issues, after which payment should begin for the death claims, maturity and pensioners. Policies that are still active would then require people to start paying their premiums. Some of the prominent figures listed for matured policies include Assistant Commissioner in charge of crime Lybron Sobers, as well as the Prime Minister. He also has an Ordinary Life policy under the Active Policy listing. Retired Assistant Superintendent of Police Vernella Wiltshire was also listed under the Active Policies Ordinary Life category.
The Term Life policies listing included Director of Security at the University of the West Indies Oral Reid, Minister of Labour Dr Esther Byer-Suckoo, Auditor General Leigh Trotman, political scientist and pollster Peter Wickham and former police officer Glen Hinkson, who now resides in Canada. The majority of the prominent figures in Barbados however, had Executive Flexible Premium Annuity policies. They include head of the HIV/AIDS Commission Jacqueline Wiltshire-Forde; Barbados Labour Party candidate for Christ Church West Dr William Duguid; Pic-O-De-Crop judge Woodbine Davis; owner of Popular Discounts supermarket Bertram Hall; cricketer David Holford; former tourism minister and current CEO of the Barbados Cricket Association Noel Lynch; former Anglican priest Edward Gatherer; lawyer Leroy Inniss and parts dealer Percy King. On that list are also former CLICO boss Leroy Parris; former Senator professor Velma Newton; former president of CLICO Holdings Barbados Ltd Terrence Thornhill; former BLP Member of Parliament Sir Louis Tull; former police chief Grantley Watson; Parris’ wife, Faye Wharton-Parris, and her current business partner Jerome Ishmael. Independent Member of Parliament for Christ Church West Dr Maria Agard and Government Senator Jepter Ince are listed under the Flexible Premium Annuity Policy category, while the Lifetime Advantage Policy listing included General Manager of the National Housing Corporation Lanette Napoleon-Young and Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler. One Annuity policyholder who did not want to be identified told Barbados TODAY whatever he received from the company would be “a welcomed bonus. A number of prominent businesses were also affected by the CLICO collapse. Listed under the Executive Flexible Premium Annuity Policy, Corporate were companies such as the Nation Publishing Company, Starcom Network Inc, First Citizens investment services (Formerly CMMB Barbados Ltd), Harmony General Insurance Ltd, the Barbados Association of Retired Persons and the Branlee Consulting Services Inc, a company founded by Paris. Parris, the former CLICO executive chairman, is currently involved in a legal battle to release over $3million in assets which have been frozen by the court.  (BT)
LEVY ON TABLE - The issue that brought 21 000 people onto the streets of Barbados has been placed on the agenda of items to be discussed when the much anticipated Social Partnership meeting comes off today. It’s the contentious National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL). This has been revealed by president of the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Akanni McDowall, who was speaking as the tripartite committee faces the glare of the cameras at the Hilton Hotel. The levy was raised from two to ten per cent by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler and went into effect from July 1. There has been a universal outcry against the levy, which businesspeople, economists, and labour leaders have indicated will cause a sharp increase in the cost of living. (WN)
SWEET DRINK TAX ‘NOT ADDING UP’ - Minister of health John Boyce is still waiting to see the impact of the ten per cent tax that was imposed on sweetened beverages two years ago. Boyce said though there was collaboration between his ministry and beverage manufacturers, more work was needed. He was speaking during the third annual Barbados Food Law and Industry Conference, which was held at the Accra Beach Hotel on Wednesday. “Government has been instrumental in the provision of nutritional counselling throughout the island and the provision of guidelines on nutrition and healthy foods in schools as well as the provision of food-based dietary guidelines.”  (WN)
SEALY: CROP OVER TOO BIG FOR NCF - Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy and Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley are at odds about the future direction for the management of the Crop Over Festival. Sealy suggested Crop Over had become so big that the time may have come to shift responsibility for its execution from the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) to a separate entity with responsibility for the festival only.  “I think that at some point, Crop Over has grown so large and is getting so much larger, that the arrangements that surround it institutionally may have to be reviewed,” Sealy responded when asked whether the festival had achieved its original goal of attracting visitors to Barbados during the slow summer months. “When Crop Over was resurrected it was largely a tourism effort to get visitors here. I think you would have to say that based on the numbers coming in here now, particularly people visiting friends and relatives, there is no question it has achieved its mission.” (WN)
FESTIVAL SHOCKER - A Barbadian visiting home for the first time in 20 years may not ever return after he became one of the victims of the Spring Garden mass shooting. Only giving his name as Clement, the man said he was here from New York to take in Grand Kadooment with his wife when shots were fired and he felt a sudden pressure in his side. “I’m born in Barbados but live in New York. I was just here trying to enjoy Crop Over with my wife; the last time I was here was in 1997. We came in August 1 and were supposed to leave on the fourth for the Grenada festival, but everything ruined now. “We were down Spring Garden dancing on the side of the road watching the trucks go by. It was around 6 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. and up to that point, we were having a great time. The next thing you know, you hear ‘pow, pow!’ and I turned to make sure my wife was all right and I get hit,” he said. (WN)
AIRLINE RAMP SLIP RUINS VACATION - Albert Leacock has been coming back to Barbados for years but this last time has left such an unpleasant taste in his mouth, he is contemplating whether he will return or not. His ordeal began almost immediately on arrival here. He said he had caught the early JetBlue direct flight [from New York] and had landed in Barbados at around 4 a.m. on July 28. “I was disembarking from the plane but whoever put the ramp there just push it and leave it – no lights, no supervision. It was raining heavily and as soon as I step on it, I slipped and fell from the top and bounced all the way to the bottom,” he said. Leacock said he slid head first and bruised his ribs and his left leg, which ended up underneath the ramp. (WN)
SAFETY UPGRADES FOR WESTMORELAND - Safety improvements are coming to the danger junction at Westmoreland on the Ronald Mapp Highway. That assurance has been given to residents of Westmoreland, St James and surrounding districts by Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley. Speaking during a town hall meeting at the Westmoreland Church of Nazarene on Wednesday night, Lashley said he was fully aware of the issues facing residents. However, he explained that before any changes could be made to the highway, the technical staff at the Ministry of Transport and Works would first have to be consulted. (WN)
MORE GUN AND DRUG ‘CATCHES’ - In search of fast money, a growing number of fishermen are after another type of catch, says the former head of the Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisations (BARNUFO). Angela Watson, who served as BARNUFO’s president for seven years between 1999 and 2006, said there had been an increase in the number of fisherfolk using their vessels to transport illegal guns and drugs.  In an interview with the WEEKEND NATION, Watson said that during her time as president there were some cases where fishermen were found to have been engaging in the illegal practice. She said the situation had since developed into a growing problem. (WN)

POLICE INCREASE PATROLS IN BLACK ROCK  - Residents in Black Rock, St Michael have noticed an increase in police presence since the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Taried Rock at Grand Kadooment on Monday. A trio of mounted police officers wearing bullet proof vests could be seen patrolling the area when Barbados TODAY visited Fairfield around 1 p.m. today. Over in Rosemont, a resident who requested anonymity told Barbados TODAY the police presence had increased in the community, while pointing out that on Kadooment morning members of the Royal Barbados Police Force had their command station located in the Deacons area. However, he said the number of police officers patrolling the area had started to rise after Monday’s shooting. “I don’t have to tell you about the vehicles coming through here, you can see for yourself . . . . They come through here every ten to 15 minutes. [Sometimes,] they run through with guns [at] all hours of the day and night . . . . I have been told that drones are flying around the area as well,” he said. In addition, the resident said despite the fact that Monday’s shooting took place on Spring Garden Highway, lawmen continued to make their presence felt in Deacons. It was apparent around 4:50 this afternoon when Barbados TODAY spotted a Task Force vehicle entering Deacons and proceeding to a nearby location where approximately ten men and women had gathered. Along the stretch of Deacons only a few children could be seen playing on a nearby court, as some residents continued to insist that their community was safe. “I feel safer with the increased [police] presence,” one elderly resident said. Attorney General Adriel Braithwaite on Wednesday said there were 16 gangs of troublesome youth in the Black Rock, St Michael environs, and that he would introduce legislation to give members of the Royal Barbados Police Force additional powers to arrest the worrying wave of gun violence. (BT)
NEW PARTIES WANT ACTION TO CURB GUN CRIMES - The business-friendly political party Solutions Barbados wants to know why lawmen cannot identify the people behind the illegal guns and drugs that end up on the streets of Barbados, while “the boys on the block” know where to source them. Solutions Barbados is among three fledgling political movements to express concern about the violence, in the wake of Monday’s shooting at Grand Kadooment, which resulted in the death of 20-year-old Taried Junior Rock of 3rd Ave Chapman Lane, St Michael and injuries to at least 18 other people, including a six-year-old boy. The United Progressive Party (UPP) said it was prepared to “stand with all those willing to take urgent action to pull Barbados back from the precipice”, while Citizens’ Action Partnership (CAP) promised to support a joint effort to tackle gun-related crime. UPP Shadow Minister of Home Affairs Maria Phillips said Barbados had witnessed an alarming increase in gun-related crimes, stressing while the party did not want to “spread despondency and alarm” it could not deny that the crime situation was escalating. Meantime, CAP leader Wendell Callender told Barbados TODAY the current spike in gun crimes was nothing new, but it must be dealt with comprehensively.  (BT)
TOUGHER ROAD LAWS COMING – Legislation to combat drink driving and the use of cellular phones while behind the wheel is still on the cards, Minister of Transport and Works Michael Lashley has reiterated. However, during a spirited town hall meeting in his St James North constituency, Opposition Member of Parliament Edmund Hinkson wanted to know how soon. Last night’s meeting came against the backdrop of two fatal accidents within the space of four months along the Ronald Mapp Highway which claimed the lives of 61-year-old Mary Downes on July 12 and 48-year-old Anderson Joseph back in March. Back in October 2015, 36-year-old Dave Hurley was also struck down in the same area. In response to concerns raised by residents about speeding and bad driving along the highway, Lashley assured that changes were coming to the Road Traffic Act. However, Hinkson wanted to know when the actual amendments would be presented to Parliament. Back in May Lashley had promised that the Road Traffic Amendment Bill would be presented to Parliament immediately after Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler presented the 2017-18 Budget. However, the move remains outstanding even though the Budget was tabled at the end of May and approved. (BT)
DRUG BUST - Police are investigating the discovery of over half a million dollars’ worth of illegal drugs this week. The latest drug bust was on Tuesday, when members of the Drug Squad and the customs Enforcement Division of the Customs Department seized 82.5 pounds of cannabis valued at $300,000, and 4.5 kilos of cocaine valued at $225,000 from among cargo imported into the country. (BT)
HYATT CASE ADJOURNED AGAIN - The legal heavyweight fight over the US$100 million Hyatt Centric Resort is set to continue next Wednesday after today’s hearing was adjourned. In a hearing that was initially scheduled for early May, but was first adjourned until July 7 because the assigned judge was on holiday, lawyers representing Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and Hyatt developers, the Mark Maloney-led Vision Development Inc, spent three hours today trying to convince Justice Sonia Richards at the Number 9 Supreme Court that attorney-at-law David Comissiong had no legal standing to attempt to stop construction of the hotel. The legal heavy hitters, including Barry Gale, QC, who represents Visions Development Inc, and Hal Gollop, QC, representing Stuart, began their oral submissions around 11 a.m. and concluded at 2:30 p.m. when the hearing was adjourned. (BT)
BIG MISTAKE LIAT! - The decision to appoint Barbadian Julie Reifer-Jones as the new chief executive officer of the cash-strapped regional airline LIAT has been described as nothing short of a mistake by frequent flyer and airline commentator Robert Pitcher. The regional businessman told Barbados TODAY he had absolutely no confidence that Reifer-Jones could turn around the fortunes of the troubled regional carrier, given that she had acted in the position several times in the past without making a difference. Reifer-Jones, an accountant, was appointed as the airline’s chief executive at the beginning of this month, almost a year after British-born David Evans quit the post. She is the first woman to be appointed to the top position at the airline, which is owned by the governments of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Reifer-Jones said she was delighted over her appointment and was looking forward to delivering an improved level of service from LIAT to the region. However, Pitcher said he failed to see how that could happen under her watch, given that the Antigua-based carrier continued to struggle financially while she held the post of chief financial officer. He is therefore predicting that she will not last long in the position. At the same time, Pitcher is maintaining that the entire LIAT board of directors should be fired and a new board installed, made up of businesspeople from shareholder countries, including former Antigua and Barbuda Senator Aziz Hadeed, Barbadian businessmen Ralph Bizzy Williams and Mark Maloney, and Dominican hotelier Gregor Nassief. He said apart from bad management, he believed poor planning  had contributed to the airline current troubles. (BT)
BRA TREASURY BUILDING OFFICE NOW ON 4TH FLOOR - The public IS advised that the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) has temporarily relocated its Customer Service Department at the Treasury Building to the fourth floor, to facilitate renovation works being carried out on the ground floor. Communications manager Carolyn Williams-Gayle said that the renovations formed part of the Authority’s overall plans to enhance service delivery. “This section is the first point of contact for many people and these renovation works are part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to improve service delivery. We have undertaken renovations at our offices in Holetown, The Pine and some at the Treasury Building, and now we are continuing those works with the ground floor renovation,” she explained. Williams-Gayle said that it was expected that once the renovation was completed, the section would be “more comfortable, visually appealing and the flow of customers through the department significantly enhanced”. (WN)
IN BREACH - Bodybuilding seems headed for another big showdown. Not at Nationals either. Barbados Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (BABFF) president Manasseh King may have run afoul of the World Anti-Doping Code after reportedly failing to be compliant with the National Anti-Doping Commission (NADC) at July’s St Michael Classic. According to a source close to the situation, two local doping control officers informed King of their intention to do drug testing at the show only to be met with resistance from the BABFF head. Such an action would be deemed an anti-doping rule violation under article 2.9 of the World Anti-Doping Code titled “complicity”. (WN)
GRANT: INVEST MORE IN SPORT - Chief Executive Officer of the Pinelands Creative Workshop, Rodney Grant, is calling for a greater investment in sport across Barbados.  “There are some things we can’t stop, but there are a lot of things we can prevent by doing the right thing,” he said during a press conference for the Caribbean Children Charity Shield Soccer Classic at the Pinelands Creative Workshop on Wednesday. “Sometimes we look upon ordinary people, and we undervalue their value. We question their ability to contribute to important development paradigms. Only last week the Hamilton Lashley Foundation concluded a cricket tournament in Meadow Road. In speaking with Hammie, I recognised the Foundation produced many national youth cricketers (WN)
$15 000 PICK-UP - This year’s Starcom Network’s People’s Monarch, Sanctuary, picked up his winning cheque of BDS$15 000 yesterday at Cave Shepherd on Broad Street. As a way to thank his fans for their support in the popular competion, he rendered his song Pick Me Upto the scores of people who attended the presentation. Sanctuary is the 15th winner of the People’s Monarch competition.  (WN)
BASHMENT SOCA ‘AN ENTRY POINT’ - In spite of the criticism bashment soca has received, radio programme director Ronnie Clarke is giving it two thumbs up. Over the years, bashment soca has been a topical public debate, especially on call-in programmes. It is seen as negatively influencing the behaviour of young people with lewd lyrics. However, Starcom Network’s programme director Ronnie Clarke played down the critiques about the calypso subgenre. Speaking at the sidelines of a presentation of $15 000 to People’s Monarch Sanctuary at Cave Shepherd Broad Street on Wednesday, Clarke said that bashment soca was a necessary element of the Crop Over season as it attracted people to the festival who may not otherwise be interested in it.  (WN)
XHOSA APOLOGISES FOR BELOW PAR KADOOMENT EXPERIENCE - The management OF Xhosa Barbados has apologised to its patrons following a bitter-sweet Grand Kadooment. The band started the season on a positive note by carrying out a charitable exercise and later putting on a spectacle at its band launch. Xhosa also copped a number of prizes including Most Colourful Large Band and Best Party Band on Monday. However, the experience was marred by a number of challenges including delays in handing out costumes, poor communication and food and drink shortages on the road. During a press conference today, band leader Jeremy Nicholls addressed many of the concerns and said each member would receive a personal apology. He said patrons’ feedback would be taken into consideration as the band regrouped for 2018.  (WN)
Rihanna's Crop Over costume goes viral -  Social media almost collapsed under the reaction to Rihanna's costume on Monday as the singer attended the Crop Over festival in Barbados. The 29-year-old had teased fans by uploading photos of her new turquoise hair on Instagram over the weekend. But the look was completed on Monday as she stepped out in a jewel-encrusted costume with green and pink feathers. (And not much else). Part of Rihanna's outfit was designed by DBleudazzled - a line specialising in bedazzled costumes. The owner of the company, known as Bleu, told Billboard she had to provide the tights at very short notice - with Rihanna's team only requesting them last Wednesday. The rest of her outfit was put together by local designer Laura Austin, according to Vogue. "Crop Over used to be celebrated with people wearing simple T-shirts," Austin said. "Over the years however, designers started getting creative. Today it's very important to dress up in full costume to really and truly feel the Crop Over vibe. It's exhilarating, free, and radiant." Translator: Monika Kapuscinska Reviewer: Reiko Bovee I’ve waited all day to get my hands on you.

So, Aldous Huxley as soon as mentioned that man is an intelligence basically in servitude to his organs. And that i concept, that’s unhappy, that we appear at being in our our bodies as this style of slavery based lure that we need to deal with. And he or she said, "look at that! You do have Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. In fact, you were proper!" And being a now-what-solution style of girl I mentioned, "So now what? What do we do?" "Now i do know what it is ultimately! Now what?" She mentioned, "good…" and i’m going to never omit sitting in that chair in her place of work. She mentioned, "you have a future laid out ahead of you of obesity, diabetes, infertility, heart ailment, and cancer. And we’ll medicate you along the best way, so don’t worry." and that i do not forget sitting in that chair. And it wasn’t out of anger, or a sense of victimhood; there was once no battle; it was simply on a cellular degree; my entire being said, "No, thanks," and i said to her, "thanks very so much for your opinion. I’ll take my very expensively expert Hopkins intellect and go figure this out." So that is what I did. And i apprenticed myself with all forms of healers, and i used to be doing all different types of fun experiments. I had grew to become orange from drinking a lot carrot juice at one point. My female friend at that time – she’s still my first-class pal – she grabbed me and he or she mentioned, "you may have turned orange. It’s time to discontinue this scan." And "I ought to finish this scan!" (Laughter) None of those experiments made any trade in my signs at all. After which, about ten years ago, what was coming to the forefront in nutritional science was this proposal of nutritional genomics that you just could use food to control gene expression.Oh, I used to be so became on by this. I said, well if that’s feasible, if food might make a decision– you recognize, in a collection of twins, if the weight-reduction plan in a single twin can make a decision how her well being is going to happen versus her same twin with an extra diet, distinctive issues, what can i do with meals to recalibrate my hormonal process? And that’s once I dove into my study and studied sensible medication, opted-out, freaked out my mothers and fathers, didn’t emerge as a health practitioner, and instead became a functional nutritionist and developed this five-step nutritional protocol that rebooted my entire endocrine approach as you will find how superb I appear now. (Applause) (Laughter) And opened my core in mid-town long island nine years ago and started treating other ladies with similar conditions: menstrual issues, fertility problems, low vigour, low libido. And they’d come into my middle, limping with these issues, periods out of whack, could not get pregnant if they’ve tried 17 times, are not able to function, can’t bear in mind the final time once they thought about intercourse, or pleasure, or whatever. And in a similar fashion, their lives have been also untethered, uncentered; they were not, they did not have their middle point. And we would follow the protocol, and their health disorders would get to the bottom of themselves, brilliant matters for me as a scientist, like a woman with no period for 17 years she’d have to go to the health care professional as soon as a yr to be triggered with progesterone to have a bleed. She menstruates month-to-month now. And we’re shut friends, I simply in finding that whole story so interesting. An extra lady got here in on delivery manipulate, on Prozac, in a job she hated, in a relationship she hated. We received her off all of those medications, of direction, with the help of her physician, and six months later she wrote me and he or she stated, "by the way, feeling best," – that used to be a given – and stated, "Moved to L.A.And have gotten my first screenwriter job, and the show that i’m writing for is now being in syndication." Love that. One more girl had two firms, had all kind of matters occurring in her lifestyles, exclusive Pilates clients in the big apple, very fancy, had her possess studio in Greenwich, Connecticut; husband was once in transition in his career. And she used to be having erratic cycles. She’s in her mid-30s. We utilized the protocol to her body. And with no trouble – this is the part that I variety of get serious about – without problems, her body restored itself. Recollect that sport, connect four? I love that game, I used to play that always with my brother. So, you already know, her whole existence simply began lining up. She with ease let go of these customers in big apple, allowed one in all her companions at the studio to take on extra accountability. And she realized that she had been putting off having a baby for some distance too long, and was once in a position to conceive naturally for this reason of the work which used to be so exciting to see. And, of course, being any person who’s all in favour of biology, i like the inspiration that she was once therapy herself of those signs, all of these ladies. But the bigger discovery was that if a girl is in line, in alignment, in harmony with that inside ecosystem that she has, that starts offevolved to impregnate the ecology of her whole existence. With this thought of transformation; your body is a transformation agent. And then that can begin to affect the relaxation of your existence. So unique. And that is when I fell in love; I mentioned, "Oh, my God." here we are, we are walking round with these blueprints in our our bodies that inform us how you can live and work in a technique that’s in the waft of our bodies. And if we are able to emerge as fluent in the language of our biochemistry, and our physiology, this grouping of glands and organs – that I wish to call woman ingredients – that we will have access to an infinite supply of vigor, and vitality, and clarity, and unwavering purpose.I mean I was completely hooked. So, Aldous Huxley as soon as mentioned that man is an intelligence basically in servitude to his organs. And that i concept, that’s unhappy, that we appear at being in our our bodies as this style of slavery based lure that we need to deal with. And i’ve fairly as a substitute found that females who get into partnership with their our bodies end up becoming the fullest expression of themselves, and dwelling as leaders and change marketers of their lives and communities. So let me introduce you to your lady parts. I simply cannot support myself. If i’m on stage i will speak about woman components, i will let you know about them. I need you to as a minimum go residence realizing what they’re.(Laughter) Nothing else. So, there are two things i want you to understand. First is the physiological structure to your body known as the endocrine system. Six glands. Hypothalamus in the midbrain, pituitary gland nestled close by means of, thyroid, here, pancreas, right here, adrenals, here, ovaries, right here. They work in an interconnected method making definite that your body has what it wishes to function: mind, coronary heart, muscle, tissue, hormones. Interesting. And they’re so enormously sensitive. Hypothalamus works with this factor known as poor bio-suggestions so any time that some thing happens, the temperature changes outside, hypothalamus picks that up, pituitary gland sends a message to the thyroid, all of a sudden, you might be adjusting to the temperature. You did not have got to do a thing. You were simply having fun with the climate. Love that. Genius. Most effective in a physique could that happen. Anyway, then there may be this physiological structure: your hormonal ratios; you’ve gotten 4 of them that happen in a single month cycle. And it is really fascinating, since we most effective ever reference that in an extraordinarily normal manner: "I want to get pregnant," or "i do not wish to get pregnant." that’s how we reference these hormonal ratios. The ovulation one is type of essentially the most famous. And the period, the menstrual phase is probably the most infamous. But there are four. There are a couple of others. So i want you to begin to feel about the place you might be in that cycle. And here are the 4 phases. First you’ve the follicular section, exciting phase. And neurochemically these hormonal ratios trade your mind chemistry. So you’re a further character, week over week inside a month. Yeah, you already know. (Laughter) In that follicular section, the place the eggs are style of coming as much as maturity; one is going to make it to the Fallopian tube, very enjoyable time.(Laughter) Neurochemically speakme, you’ve gotten essentially the most entry to ingenious vigour that you are going to have the entire month. Simply. This can be a excellent time to start new initiatives: mastermind, plan, dream colossal, all of that. In the ovulatory section, which everyone knows very good, so i’m not going to dive into it. In the ovulatory section, we’ve the high-quality communication abilities and probably the most power that we can have the entire month. This is absolutely a time to have fundamental conversations. Would it be genius when you could plan to ask for a elevate when you’re ovulating? (Laughter) Whoever is attempting not to give you the carry is like, "Please take the money. You are so irresistible." (Laughter) Or go on a first date, or have an most important dialog with your partner. Or inform your mom something you rather want her to claim sure to. You’re only a magnet at that time. In a luteal section, B vitamins are being called into action, for the reason that the liner is thickening, and it’s a very energized approach. However we become very element oriented right now. So that shoe closet you couldn’t get to arrange earlier than, that is the week.Detail oriented duties are very effortless to do. Try not to plan them in the different two weeks. Within the fourth phase, the menstrual segment, this is the time of the month when you simply have probably the most lively conversation between the right and the left hemispheres of the mind. So strong! So, if you are looking into course right, evaluation your existence in the past 30 days, how you probably did this month, this may be the time to do it. You are most competent to acquire those gut feeling physique messages. So, take become aware of, take a moment to take realize at the moment. Gloria Steinem mentioned, when she was talking about the film, "omit illustration" which i love, she stated, "ladies are taught to view their our bodies as unending tasks to work on, whereas, boys from a young age are taught to view their our bodies as instruments to grasp their environment." I actually fell off my chair once I heard her say that.Due to the fact that is not that the truth? We, as women, get on this hamster wheels of self-development and self sabotage. And we don’t be taught about these predominant, actual bodily buildings in our our bodies that provide us this blueprint to the way to prepare our lives. I mean, in the event you clearly adhere to the map you study exactly what you should consume, while you will have to eat it, the way you will have to transfer your body, the way you will have to prepare social commitments, work priorities. It can be all laid out for you. You don’t have got to consider, or do, or push, or battle. It can be simply there for you. And sadly, the environment is somewhat bit learning us correct now. Lady’s our bodies are in hormonal breakdown in epidemic proportions. I feel it can be 20 million ladies within the Unites States suffer from endometriosis, fibroid, PCOS… In 2009, 1.42 billion greenbacks have been spent on infertility remedies. Premiums of idiopathic "no-known" reason of infertility are on the rise in both men and ladies.Cancers of the reproductive organs are on the upward push in guys and women. Medications are being prescribed, left and proper, for medication of matters that do not rather need remedy, but relatively need a systemic method. And additionally it is fascinating, on account that we’re also in a very equally intriguing historical second, the place we now have essentially the most vigour economically and because the largest patron demographic than we’ve ever had earlier than. Which you can literally vote together with your dollars to claim to corporate the united states, "whats up, i would such as you to custom-match an environment for me." "i might love to peer extra maternal care there." So, on the middle we want to empower as many ladies as can to be trained this language, and leverage their bodies as a device. So, I want to provide the three things that we teach every person. The first is you have to fall in love. You have got to study what these ingredients do and how you can devour to support them, so they are able to operate optimally for you. The 2nd factor is that you simply have got to commit, commit to this new relationship with your body. I would like you to plot your month, thematically, week over week, in keeping with these hormonal ratios, so that you could just do extra, go teach your lifestyles; I call it "in-body time management". The 0.33 thing is, i need you to begin to leverage your body as a energy device. And i need you to reply the query that none of my sufferers can ever answer the first time I ask it of them, which is: if I have been to wave a magic wand and repair your body to superb vitality what would you do with that energy? How would you be a transformation agent in the world? If that you may start to answer that query, then we are able to relatively step into our roles as leaders as women. So, females provide birth via the body. The most important act of our generation of females goes to be to be in a partnership with the body, to not depart it out. And i relatively want to see you’re keen on your woman ingredients, transform your life, and change the sector. I am Alisa Vitti. It’s been an honor. (Applause) .
