Hi hi! This blog absolutely fascinates me! Would you mind expanding on the “calico” thing a bit more? I understand that the words “calico” and “tortoiseshell” are color patterns and that “tortoiseshell” appears to be the more proper terminology in regards to genetics (much as medical professionals use medical jargon amongst themselves, e.g., using the word “vaccination” among colleagues vs. the word “shot” in front of patients), but what would you say is a “calico?” Is it an “all German Shepherds are dogs, but not all dogs are German Shepherds” type situation?

I’d say the vaccination/shot analogy would be the more similar example. Calico is largely a colloquial term and the amount of white which transitions a “tortoiseshell with white” to a “calico” is subjective more than rigidly defined.

So if an anon asks me for examples of a “calico” I have a general idea of what they’re looking based on cultural awareness even though it’s not a genetic term and is largely not used by the major registries.

But at the same time what is a calico to me may deviate slightly from what is a calico to anon. Maybe I interpret the term more widely and include cats with less white spotting than what anon would consider a calico.

This is gonna be really stupid probably, and I’m probs gonna be known as “that person” cause I’ve asked another person on here, but I’m curious as to why you (and many others) believe that Mapleshade, Hawkfrost, and Thistleclaw didn’t deserve to go to the Dark Forest. Anytime I ask, I’m blown off and treated like I’m awful for even asking. I’m not trying to pick a fight. I’m genuinely curious. I enjoy a good discourse, and I’m open to someone changing my mind on characters. Help me understand!😭

I'm sorry, I got this ask a couple times before and just failed to answer until now jcoshfobw.

I wrote up a whole analysis on their characters, but erased it all in favor of simply explaining that in my headworld, even though a cat is locked out of StarClan, they have a large expanse of territory called the In Between to wander in. They have to specifically choose the Dark Forest. And hardly any cat actively chooses to go there.

But the In Between is a dangerous place. You can't just stay there forever, for something lurks in the mist. You either must prove yourself worthy of StarClan, or take shelter in the Dark Forest. But even cats who have been in either for a great deal of time can slip over to the other side if they prove worthy of it.

Mapleshade drifts in the In Between often, meeting cats when they first die to ask which side they'll choose. Her presence there is permitted by the Unknown in the Mist, as a gatekeeper of sorts. Thistleclaw stays in the Dark Forest, but often strays into the In Between when he can to see Snowfur. Hawkfrost chooses the Dark Forest, but Ivypool eventually convinces him to leave, and vouches for his character so he can eventually enter StarClan.

I am super curious and also confused on some things, and I hope you can clarify for me! Please know this is not meant to be offensive in ANY way! I’m wondering how Rowanstar being trans works. How did he and Tawnypelt have kits if he is biologically female? Did another tom help out with that? Lol. I love the idea (it’s super sweet!) and loved you part in Work This Body! I just can’t seem to wrap my head around how they had kits. Thanks in advance!

I don’t have a specific headcanon for the logistics, I know that other people do! But also there are fertile calico males in warriors so how far of a stretch is it for Rowanstar to be both trans male and a biological father?? It’s fiction it can be magical and impossible and still work.

Hi! I just had a quick question for you! I absolutely LOVE the pics/videos you post of all the beautiful birds, and I was wondering if you ever pick up any feathers? My grandma (dad’s mom) passed away nearly two years ago, and she loved cardinals. I’m really wanting a tattoo to represent her, and I was thinking a cardinal feather would be perfect. If you find one, and it isn’t too much of a convenience, could you send me a pic? Thank you!

I am sorry to hear about your grandma’s passing, I know even if it has been a while, things will still hurt… I do not often find feathers, let alone Cardinal ones, but if I do, I will post it here so you can shoot me a message :)

Edit. I am aware that it is not allowed to possess feathers, but this is not what the question was about. It was about the photo of a feather. (Typo is fixed too :P )

Really didn't want to have to say this. LoneWolfMeadow has.... I'll let the post speak for itself. First of all, they are basically a Ashfur (Shadowclan) worshipper and won't even talk about Fallen Leaves's powers that were only mentioned once or ableism. Trigger warning: Their favourite book for some reason is Dawn of the Clans. Trigger warning: To make things worse, they ship Tree and Gremlin in a self-indulgent way. They for some reason posted on their blog that Tornear's rancid vibes is for some reason okay? They did one good thing though. A friend of mine said that they headcanon Runningnose as genocidal but I don't have screenshots right now. Oh, nearly forgot. They're a Crookedstar self-shipper. Screenshots linked below. The Fish and Wildlife Service has a website dedicated to the ID and archiving of flight feathers from various species around America. I've used it before to ID the feathers I've found, and I'm sure with the common nature of cardinals, it'd be easy to find.
