ロンドン Victoria stationから１時間ほど南下したところにあるブライトン。イギリスにこんな綺麗なビーチがあることは意外と知られていないかもしれません。夏は海水浴で賑わうこの地に、シーズンぎりぎりの10月中旬頃に駆け込みで行ってきました。というのも、特に冬に行けないわけではないのですが、見ての通り海沿いで、南端とはいえ冬は強風が吹き荒れるそうなのです。

夏ほどの観光客はいませんでしたが、駅に着くとリゾート地に来た感がかなりあり心が躍ります。ブライトンビーチにはカリフォルニアのサンタモニカピアを思い出させるとってもキュートでレトロな桟橋があります。（写真は夜のライトアップ）小さな遊園地もあって、昼も夜も楽しめます。

ここからこの時は時間がなかったため、タクシーで30分ほどかけセブンシスターズクリフへ。（到着したら、帰りのタクシーの予約を忘れずに。）イギリスの崖の土壌成分は石灰が多く含まれているため、写真のような白亜の断崖が楽しめるのです。写真にとっても綺麗。このセブンシスターズの由来は、7人の姉妹ではなく、七つの断崖が"白いベールをまとったシスターに見える"ことからきているそう。崖を登って行くのはすこしハードだったけれど、頂上から見下ろすイギリス南沖の絶景には感激。たまたまだったけれど、夕方に到着して素晴らしい景色を楽しむことができました。（サンセットおすすめです。）ただ、秋や冬はすぐに暗くなるので、注意が必要。

港町だけあって、新鮮な海鮮もたのしめます。（ここでのフィッシュアンドチップスはとってもおいしい）余談だけど、毎日？もしくは週末のみ？花火がうちあげられています。ちょうど駅から見ることができました。次回は宿泊したいな。

River Thems

ロンドンといえば、テムズ川。昼も夜もたくさんの人で賑わうスポット。こんな所日常的に歩けるなんて本当に贅沢だな、と日々感じながら、川沿いをお散歩するのが至福の時でした。

至る主要スポットに、心地よいバックミュージックをかけてくれているロンドンのストリートパフォーマンス達。彼らは、自由に路上パフォーマンスができるのではなく、オーディションに通過した方たちなのです。だからこそ、スキルもあって景観にマッチした素敵な演出を日々行ってくれています。

中でも地下鉄でのパフォーマンスがお気に入り。帰宅中の疲れている時に聞くとかなり癒されます。（きっと他の方もそう。チップをあげる人もたくさんいます。）こういう、人を元気に癒してくれる音楽の文化は、雨の多いロンドンだからこそ生まれたそう。

都会なのに緑の公園やベンチが多く、また、そこまで激務で働く文化では無いロンドンでの生活は、本当にストレスフリー。音楽もそうだけど、ストレスを無くすのがみんな本当に上手な気がします。気持ちに余裕のある人がたくさんいて、譲り合って助け合って生活をしている、、素敵な街です。

Piccadilly Circus 

Bigbenもそうだけれど、ここもかなり”ロンドンに来たー”と感じるスポット。ここ、リージェントストリートの入り口からオックスフォードストリートまで繋がっているので、ロンドンではフラットシューズでShoppingを楽しんで。

ロンドンのお天気事情

どんよりとした、鉛色の空のイメージのロンドン、青空の日も意外とたくさんあります。雨が降ることも多いけれど日本のような土砂降りはなく、雪もあんまり降りません。小雨だからみんな”傘をわざわざささなくてもすぐやむ”と思ってささないのかも？？ロンドンに来てから少しの雨は気にならなくなったのと、日差しがあると外に出たくなるようになりました。晴れた日には市内にたくさんある芝生スペースや公園が人で溢れかえります。みんなせっせと日光浴をして、ある友人は”ビタミンDを生成しなきゃ”と言っていました。ビジネスマンが芝生の上でPC作業をしたり、ランチミーティングをしたりすることも日常茶飯事。都会なのに気軽に休憩できる公園やベンチがたくさんあるところがロンドンのいいところ。

Fuckoffee

ネーミングがおもしろいcafe。お店の内装や雰囲気もオシャレでありながら、ノマドワーカーや学生がPC作業に集中できる空間。

お友達に教えてもらったオススメルート。Bermondsey駅から歩いていける、Maltby Street Market. かわいいローカルなcafeや小さいマーケットがあって、ついてすぐお気に入りの場所になった。バラマーケットと違って、観光客はあまりいないところがGOOD.

Farm Girl

Nottinghillにある、インスタフェイマスなカフェ、ファームガール。

ヘルシー料理、オーガニックにこだわったカフェでとにかく見た目もかわいいことで有名。土日は行列になっていることもしばしば。

パンケーキはかなり甘さ控えめでベリーのフレッシュな味わいがしっかりとし、罪悪感を感じず楽しめました。

思わず写真を撮りたくなるローズコーヒーのかわいさには、女心をくすぐられます。

LIBERTY

中で売られている商品はもちろん、内装、外装ともに素敵なリバティ。この黒と白のチューダー様式の作りがイギリスっぽくて好き。中には趣のある階段やエレベーターも。クリスマスシーズンにはたくさんのオーナメントが売られていて、見ているだけでも幸せになる空間。

Daisy green 

オーガニック食材を使ったMarble Arch駅近くにあるカフェ。

こだわったコーヒーも飲めるため、こんなにラブリーな店内にもスーツのサラリーマン姿がたくさん。ゆったりと座れれるスペースもあって、小さい子連れ家族も来やすい店内でした。

Carnaby street

ロンドンの中でも好きな通りのひとつ、カーナビーストリート。冬はクリスマスのイルミネーションがついて特にかわいい所です。昨年はV&AとのLOVEの電光アートがとっても素敵でした。冬は17時頃には真っ暗になるロンドンでは、どこもかしこもイルミネーションが綺麗で、冬の暗さプラスどんよりした天気を一掃してくれます。むしろ夕方から綺麗な街中を楽しめてお得感。クリスマスデコレーションはだいたい１月頃までやってるのですが、さらに日の短い2月は15時頃に真っ暗、そして一年で一番寒いシーズン。それでもファッションウィークがあったりするので、カフェやアートめぐりにはぴったりの時期かもしれないです。
