im unemployed and ready to party!
Wow, so who woulda thought I’d come back to this little time capsule? To get you up to speed, since I don’t think I’ve logged into this account since... 2020?
I graduated and I’m married now. I don’t draw that much, but I never really did. I kinda want to start again though, lol. I’m reconnecting with people from my past life, looking for my first job out of college, utterly friendless (except my husband/best friend/twin/soulmate, iykyk), re-discovering the joys of reading and jigsaw puzzles, and trying my best to stay sane.
I thought it would be fun to write stuff here again, idk. It’s definitely easier than adding to a stupid google doc, and I’m just screaming into the void either way. There’s a job I interviewed for on Thursday that I really, really want, but I’m afraid to admit that. Because it’ll hurt even more when I don’t get it. It’s nice to imagine future me reading this, all content and employed. You whore. I wish I was there too. But that is not how time works, unfortunately.
Yeah, that helped. Boy, I’m still such a lonely person. Never change, freak.
Kisses,
ranarlomo

Hey peru travel advice if u got any?
please have fun there in the greatest country of south america a very beloved nation 😭💕💕💕💕💕💕
try the anticuchos they're amazing. try the lucuma ice cream from the street vendors!!!!! try a pisco sour, try choclo with queso fresco, try lomo saltado, chicha morada, emoliente, ceviche, picarones, papa la huancaiya, tacu tacu, chachangas, etc etc just eat lots of everything nothing is bad. go to a fruit market and try cherimoya. there's also a lot of chinese and japanese and italian food there that has been peruvianified, it's great. the food in peru is fucking amazing, try everything.
when i went i had the massive advantage of staying with and being shown around by my mother's friend who was born and raised in lima, and i was just a teenager so she basically planned everything and i just did whatever she told me to do haha. so im not gonna lie i never really had to do research or worry and idk exactly like .. i can't give the most amazing tips. she took us mainly to educational places like museums, historical sites, churches, at one point she took us to a dairy farm outside lima where they made queso fresco. we also visited a trout farm. like any place you'd expect a class of eighth graders to take a field trip, that's where we went haha. it rocked.
i can say definitely visit the smaller museums and smaller archeological sites. there is a national museum in lima that documents the civil war of the early 90s that i highly recommend. idk if you'll be in lima or huancayo or nazca or macchu pichu or what but wherever you are there are incredible archeological sites to visit nearby. it's not just macchu pichu.
i can also say, we took buses to travel everywhere, including long distances to other cities. we went to small local bus depots and i was usually the only person on them that wasn't from peru. i found that traveling this way was very cheap, and i saw extraordinary scenery, and there were sometimes good food vendors on the bus, or on very long distance drives, the driver would sometimes stop at a good restaurant that was very cheap. i loved it. one time going back from huancayo to lima, the bus did break down a bunch of times delaying our trip by several hours, but even that was one to the most extraordinary experiences of my life. driving through those mountains and forests, down into the vast desert and towards the coast, during the most beautiful sunrise ive ever seen in my life, made the inconvenience and discomfort more than worth it. these long distance buses are usually pretty nice, too, they're very similar to an american greyhound. so i would really recommend that especially if you know someone there or are balling on a budget.
on the practical side of things, do not drink or brush your teeth with unboiled tap water. you'll get sick. my friend didn't drink any but brushed her teeth with it, and she got sick as a dog and couldn't come to nazca with us.
also, peru has very strict wildlife exportation laws, so be cautious about bringing home any souvenirs made out of wild animals or wild animal products, bc they will probably be confiscated from you when you get back home. alpacas are domesticated so you're good there.
also i think you should buy a huge bottle of vanilla from a local market bc the vanilla there is delicious
it's been my observation that peruvian culture is very kind and polite. ppl don't make a lot of eye contact but everyone is really cool. idk if you're fluent in spanish or anything but don't be nervous about trying to speak it if you're not that good, and try to be very kind to ppl, bc there's a really generous and welcoming spirit, ppl will be kind to you.
if you need a doctor, just go, bc it's super cheap, like twenty bucks for an appointment.
don't worry about the elevation. just drink a lot of water and bring some excedrin. don't be a weenie it's a once in a lifetime experience!
i love peru so much it's very close to my heart. im so glad you're going, please tell me how things go!!!!!!!

Hey, ya'll. I'm not sure who's still here in our little survey community, but I thought I'd update anyone who happens to see this and has been following me for awhile that I just got home a couple days after 3 weeks in the hospital. I had surgery and some scary setbacks during that stay, but I'm doing okay now. Anyway, surveys should resume again more regularly now.
Do you prefer hardly toasted at all or burnt toast? I like it golden. I don't want a burnt brick or basically just a piece of bread.

What's the weirdest compliment you've ever received? "You're really pretty for having polio." Yes, someone actually said that to me. I'm in a wheelchair, but I don't have polio. Also, what does one have to do with the other? It was seriously a WTF moment.
Do you remember all those rhymes like 'i before e except after c'? I remember that one.
When did you last have an 'Oh, I get it now!' moment? Hm. I don't recall.
Would you say you're more witty or childish about jokes? I like punny, cheesy, corny, dad jokes lol.

Do people often confide in you? Do you like it? Yeah. I don't mind.
Who is someone you really admire? My mom.
Do you prefer piano or guitar music? I enjoy both.
Do you like helium balloons? Uhhh, sure.
Have your parents ever suspected something untrue about you? Possibly.
Do you have any fears that seem weird to others? Yeah, like my fear of holes/clusters and killer whales.
Have you ever wished you'd been born someplace else? Yeah, I hate this city.
What d'you think about videogames? I like Mario Bros.
Are there any forms of art you personally find pointless? Like what?
What would you, or do you, study at college? I got my BA in psych.
Are you tired right now? Always.
Have you ever had, or wanted, a pet ferret? No.
Is there anything you find undeserving of the hype it received? Perhaps.
What's something you do a lot? I watch a lot of YouTube videos.

What were you last embarrassed about? Meh.
Are there any clothing items you really want but can't find? Yeah. I haven't had a chance to look through my clothes in awhile.

What does your dream house look like? I want hardwood floors, spacious, big backyard, nice patio deck.
Do you wear a lot of make-up? Not at all. I rarely wear makeup.
Do you have any projects on the go right now? No.
What's a habit you find gross? Hmm.
Would you rather have a Poloroid or a Lomo camera? What's a lomo?
When was the last time you were jealous? I don't recall.
Are you one of those people who see things for sale and say 'I could've come up with that!'? No.
Do you, or did you, really look forward to when you can finally move away? My family and I would love to move away. We've wanted to for a long time, it just hasn't worked out.

Has anyone ever approached you in the street and asked to take your picture? No.
Have you ever disliked something just because most people liked it? Nah, I don't care about that. Just like I don't like something just cause it's trendy and popular. I like what I like.
Does anything hurt on you right now? Of course.
What song's stuck in your head? Mr Take Yo Bitch. lol.
Did anyone ever tell you that earwigs crawl into your ear while you sleep? STOPPPPP.

WEEK TWELVE/ FINAL STATEMENT
Concepts and Contexts
My photographic series “shadows of home” speaks to the experience of moving out of home; the good and the bad. Everyone has a connection to somewhere you can call ‘home’. There are five common emotional stages one may go through when flying the coop for the first time: excitement, overwhelming, scared, lonely and finally accepting. (Yin, 2021). My series focuses on my flat mate, Tarik, who I grew up with and now live with in Auckland. Being close to his family, Tarik initially struggled with the distance, but over time, he found comfort in our shared “home away from home” and gradually built his own sense of security here. I wanted to capture the juxtaposition between new freedom and the loneliness that can come from leaving a familiar space.
Research
I first took inspiration for this series after discovering lomo cameras, “An ultra-basic camera with a fixed lens, one shutter speed, and manual focusing. The results, as you may expect, are full of flaws. Misplaced focus, wrong colors, heavy vignetting, distortions, and blurs are just some of them.” (Dam, 2023) I found this form of photography very raw and compelling yet also a form of photo manipulation. This led me to look further into double exposures both analogue and postproduction manipulated.
Emil recommended I look at photographer ‘Sarah Palmer’, (Sarah Palmer, n.d.) who creates vibrant double exposures that evoke a strong sense of connection through two photographs and tells deeper stories upon investigation. She employs light, color, and people to evoke intense chaos in her compositions, immersing the viewer in the moment. I took inspiration from the power of storytelling she portrays through her work.
Additionally, I looked at Tamara Lichtenstein’s work, a photographer who portrays “the journey from youth to womanhood” (Tamara Lichtenstein, n.d.) occasionally employing double exposure to do so. Her work is the opposite to Sarah’s, no chaos, a singular person over a landscape. Her photographs transported me to a peaceful place, often using soft natural light to create a dreamy yet lonely atmosphere.
My research motivated me to utilize multiple exposures as my form of photographic manipulation, I felt it was a fitting form of manipulation to create a raw and personal series that told the story I wanted to tell.
Methods and Making
As a photographer, the ethics of photographic manipulation are vital to practice, and we must keep questioning the line between veracity and deception. In the article we looked at about Jonas Bendikson’s ‘Book of Veles’ (Miller, 2022) I was reminded of the reality of AI (artificial intelligence) and the increasing accessibility. Bendikson created 3D characters and manipulated them into his photographs, creating an entirely false narrative about the city of Veles. After publishing his almost totally false book, he was shocked to find that not a single person questioned the authenticity of his work, even after being screened at a film festival. I see Jonas’ work more as a social experiment, testing the waters of manipulation and sending a warning for the reality that is becoming. In this case, Jonas is an honest and reliable photographer who had always had the intention of telling the truth about his project. However, I believe in the wrong hands this technology can be incredibly damaging and change the way we know.
I decided to use a form of manipulation that goes back to the basics, double exposure. First discovered by William Mumler, a photographer whose accidental double exposure layered himself over his deceased cousin. (Spirit Photography | University of Canterbury, n.d.). Double exposure has become a technique to create compositions that spark themes of memories, experiences and identity. Unfortunately, I did not give myself enough time to shoot on film, which would have been the ultimate true double exposure, however I was able to create a similar effect through post-production. I used blending modes within layers in photoshop and mindfully composed frames within frames.
The emotional phases I described above are reflected in my compositions, which is why their sequence matters. In the first, Tarik is shown in opposing profiles, signifying his mental struggle as he feels anxious and overwhelmed. The double exposure of light through a window symbolizes the relief that is forthcoming.  In the second, a shot of Tarik washing—a daily task signifying the transition to independence—is mixed with a more comfortable image of him with his hand on his chin. A close-up of Tarik's face and a peaceful picture of him in the garden are featured in the last picture, which reflects the emotional stage of acceptance as he welcomes his independence and this new phase of his life.

https://www.insideimaging.com.au/2023/colour-film-market-opaque/
And speaking of the CCP leads to speculation about China Lucky Film. Back in the 1990s, Eastman Kodak entered into a partnership with the China-based Lucky Film. It shared its old Kodak 1980s-era VR emulsion recipe (replaced by the Kodak Gold range in the late 1990s) with Lucky film. The arrangement petered out around 2007. Lucky Film then merged with the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation in 2011. It’s a possibility that the Lucky film plant is still coating a version of that Kodak VR emulsion, which might explain all these retro-style films with Made in China printed on the box. An entry about Lucky Film in Wikipedia states: ‘In 2017, a new offshoot company Lucky Film started a production of Lucky New SHD100 in 35mm and 4×5.’ The same entry lists half a dozen Lucky colour films.
Lomo Colour films 100, 400, 800 are ‘thought to be based’ on Kodacolor VR formulations from the mid-1980s. Presumably manufactured by Kodak in USA, but who knows? Some state ‘Made in China’. When it comes to informing customers where the base emulsion comes from, Lomo goes all coy. You get something similar from cameras manufacturers when it comes to imaging sensors manufactured by Sony.

Imma tad confused. (TARDIS closet?) is it like--- i don't even know????? Could you explain it please? I keep seeing wholesomes about it and with no context it doesnt really make sense? -Lomo Anon
Okay okay so-
When I first had to name my inbox space, I named it a closet
But then later, a joke was made (I think by Skull, tho no promises) that there was no way a closet could fit all of my anons- it would have to be the TARDIS (short explanation if you don’t know Dr. Who- something that’s bigger on the inside than it appears to be on the outside)
And ever since than, a debate has been struck that will not cease- is the inbox a TARDIS? Is it a closet? Is it both? no one knows and I refuse to pass judgement

When With His Father, Diavolo Is A Lot More Stern, The Demon King, On The Other Hand...Part Five (Updated)
A/N: didn't like how long part four was, as well as noticing some errors, so I split it into a second part. Anyway, please enjoy.
Part One Part Two Part Three Part Four Part Six Part Seven
-----------------
5:50 PM
Diavolo: alright, we've arrived *sighs* Can we at least not make this a repeat of last time?
The Demon King: for horrid's sake, that was centuries ago. Just how long do you plan to hold that against me?
Barbatos: I have to agree with the Young Master. Please be sure to take care of yourself, your Majesty.
Diavolo: father, please. Promise you won't overdrink.
The Demon King: I give you my word.
Diavolo, folding his arms: swear on it.
The Demon King: I swear that I won't--
*45 minutes later*
The Demon King: --drink until the fuckkng dawn *hearty laugh*
Simeon, covering Luke's ears: I think...we should leave early.
Lucifer, swirling his drink: aw, but the party's just starting. Leave and you'll miss the main event.
Simeon: though this looks plenty exciting, I'm afraid what Luke might witness next may scar him for life.
MC: agreed. By the way, you wouldn't by chance be considering adopting a second pet, would you? I'm house trained and great with smaller dogs.
Simeon, smiling: and take you away from your master? He'd be so sad.
Lucifer: devastated, really.
MC: and here I thought angels were supposed to protect people from evil.
Simeon: oh, I'm not sure I'd be much better. I just might be tempted to put you on a leash.
MC: never mind. You're both horrible.
Luke: hey, what's everyone talking about?
-----------------
6:35 PM
Satan: so, Solomon *laughs* I heard you had quite the day yesterday. Nice collar, by the way.
Asmodeus: aw, no fair. You never let me put you in a collar.
Solomon: and I never will.
Asmodeus, winking: never say never.
Satan: though I'm a bit confused. Unlike MC, you actually have the means of escaping.
Solomon: let's say I have my own reasons for enduring this. Speaking of which...
The Demon King: Lomo, there you are. But oh? Where's your smile?
Solomon: *smiles hesitantly*
The Demon King: good boy. Now, have fun and stay where I can see you, ok?
Solomon: yes.
The Demon King: yes what?
Solomon: yes...daddy.
The Demon King, patting Solomon's head: I swear, you're getting cuter by the day! *walks off*
Satan: ...
Asmodeus: ...
Solomon: ...
Satan: ...so Lomo, is it?
Asmodeus: forget that! What's this "daddy" thing all about? Sounds kinky.
Solomon: unfortunately for you, it's nowhere near that interesting. He calls me his "baby Howling Monkey."
Satan: I see. So you've moved up from Naked Mole Rat to something even worse.
Asmodeus: and nowhere near as sexy.
-----------------
7:01 PM
Lucifer: trying to run away from me? I'm hurt.
MC, stuffing their face: flock off, peacock.
Lucifer: now, now, no barking back at your master. Honestly, is it really that difficult being my pet?
MC: other than dying a thousand painful ways, yes.
Lucifer: well, now you've gone and hurt my feelings.
MC: I bet the Demon King would treat me way better than a mere fetish slave.
Lucifer: ...you wouldn't?
MC: oh, I would! In fact... *walks towards the Demon King*
Lucifer: MC wait. You don't understand how serious he takes this.
-----------------
7:02 PM
MC: Mr. Demon King.
The Demon King: ah, why if it isn't Lucifer's precious human. Did you come to say hello?
MC: even better. I've decided I want to be your pet.
Mammon and Leviathan: what?
Asmodeus and Satan: what?
Beelzebub: *munch, munch, gulp*
Solomon, yanking off his collar: oh, thank god.
Belphegor: finally, something worth being awake for.
The Demon King: oh, I knew you'd change your mind. After all, there was little doubt.
Lucifer: come again?
The Demon King: no offense to you, Lucifer, but clearly I would make the superior master, considering I'm the one with the castle, a kingdom, extraordinary wealth, power, the castle.
Lucifer: you said castle twice.
The Demon King: yes, but only because I needed to emphasize the importance of me owning one. It's rather lovely. Built on top of the bones of many enemies.
Lucifer: fascinating. However, as I stated before, MC is a guest and this is their home. They're staying...here.
The Demon King: oh? And what if I refuse? What then, little morning star?
MC: in hindsight, this may have been a mistake.
Barbatos: is that the conclusion you've come to?
MC: are...are you giving me sass?
Barbatos: please excuse me. I thought my enthusiasm was at standard, yet let me readjust myself *starting directly at MC, smiling* Now then, would you say my mood is more appropriate for the occasion?
Leviathan: he's smiling, but his eyes...hold death.
MC, wearing a nervous smile: n-now, now, no need to be upset. Maybe it won't be so bad. Lucifer is just as strong as Lord Diavolo. I mean, he could totally take on the Demon King...right?
Mammon: ah no. You don't wanna go there.
Leviathan: if we're comparing Lucifer to your typical shonen anime protagonist, he's like Goku facing off against Buu. Granted, that's before he destroys cities, kills everyone on Earth, absorbs his friends, blows up the Earth, kills all his remaining loved ones, and blows up a bunch of other planets. I mean, they get better, but still.
Satan: well, that doesn't sound fun.
Beelzebub: everyone was so happy before. Isn't there a better way to solve this?
Belphegor, smirking: what about a drinking contest?
Asmodeus: you mean like the one where--
Mammon: --shut the hell up, Asmo!
Barbatos: I don't believe that's--
The Demon King: --a wonderful idea!
Barbatos: *sighs*
Lucifer: this is preposterous. We could easily solve this with something that doesn't require us to die of alcohol poisoning.
The Demon King, with a large grin: don't tell me the mighty firstborn is afraid of a little competition? Though Didi did say you were a bit of a lightweight. Shame.
Lucifer, eyes gleaming: oh, never your Majesty. I was only thinking of your sake, seeing as how you were doddering behind Barbatos earlier.
Solomon: you realize you've made this situation 100 times worse, yes?
Belphegor: duh. But this way both Lucifer and the Demon King get to suffer for it *grins* And who said this party wouldn't be fun?
Beelzebub: you did. 12 times. I counted.
The Demon King: then it's settled. Whoever can finish 10 bottles of Demonus wins MC.
Mammon: wait, 10? Last time I only made it to six before wanting to pass out. No way Lucifer will--
Lucifer: --I accept. And I don't intend to lose.
Satan: and here I thought the Demon King would ruin the party, but it was you all along, MC. Our little wild card.
Beelzebub: shouldn't Diavolo be stopping this?
Barbatos: my word. I was so intent on watching the king that I completely neglected the Young Master's emotional well-being. Where could he have gone?
MC: I'll go and find him. Just try to calm them down while I'm gone.

Hanni fact #155.
Will collects recall notices for dog food like I collect notices of church roof collapses. It gives us insight into the nature of G-d and humanity.
Will: "All natural ingredients," my ass. This is why I make the dog's food
Clarice: Plus we have meat to spare for our puppers. Speaking of, babes? Did y'all notice that valet at the opera house who looked at me funny last week?
We noticed him, little lamb.
Will: I was thinking for this weekend we can make Lomo Saltado...?

Prince Aemond Targaryen, nicknamed Aemond the One-Eyed, was the son of King Viserys I Targaryen and his second wife, Queen Alicent Hightower, daughter of the Hand of King Otto Hightower. He was the younger brother of King Aegon II Targaryen. It was the dragon rider Vhagar.
Aemond is described as a wild and willful boy who grew up to be an irascible and unforgiving young man. He lost an eye in his youth and wore a sapphire in his missing eye socket. He wore black armor with gold rivets.
When he was born, Prince Aemond was said to be half the size of his brother Aegon, but doubly fierce.
After Ser Laenor Velaryon's funeral, King Viserys I planned to visit Dragonstone to see if Aemond was "brave enough" to claim a dragon egg for his own account. Trying to show his fearlessness, at ten years old, Aemond resolved to claim the oldest and fiercest dragon in the world: Vhagar, recently riderless since the death of Laena Velaryon. Upon discovering that his three-year-old nephew Joffrey Velaryon was spying on him, he slapped him several times and pushed him into a mountain of dragon excrement, escaping on the back of Vhagar. Upon returning to land, he found that Joffrey and his brothers were waiting for him. He fought them and lost his left eye when Luke took it out with his dagger. Despite the loss of his eye, Prince Aemond became a dangerous warrior under the tutelage of Ser Criston Cole, the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard.
Aemond was nineteen when King Viserys I died. He had a lover named Alys Rivers.
He rode the dragon Vhagar during the Dance of the Dragons, taking the side of his brother Aegon II. Just as the previous Lord of Storm's End, Lord Boremund Baratheon, had been a supporter of Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the Greens feared that Lord Borros Baratheon, the current Lord, might stand on the same side. Therefore, shortly after Viserys I's death, Aemond was sent to Storm's End, to convince Lord Borrós to support Aegon II by promising to marry one of his daughters.
Meanwhile, Borros was visited by Prince Lucerys Velaryon, who had come to speak on behalf of Rhaenyra's claim. Aemond attempted to provoke Lucerys, whom he ignored. When Aemond threatened to kill Lucerys, Lord Borros refused to allow bloodshed under his roof. Lucerys rode back to Dragonstone on the dragon Arrax in the middle of a great storm. Along the way, he was chased by Aemond and his dragon Vhagar; Although Arrax was younger and faster and could have escaped unscathed on a typical day, Vhagar was five times as large and withstood the ravages of the storm better. Both dragons and their riders met over the Bay of Shipwrecks. According to Archmaester Gyldayn, if there was a fight it couldn't have lasted long. Arrax fell, wounded, and was swallowed by the waters that lashed the bay.
In the Battle of Rook's Rest, he was part of the trap set for Princess Rhaenys Targaryen; As she fought against enemy forces, Aegon II appeared in surprise on Sunfire and Aemond on Vhagar. Only against Vhagar, Rhaenys would have had a chance to win, but she was lost to two dragons. However, the princess did not flee, but faced her enemies. The battle ended with the death of Rhaenys and Meleys, as well as severe burns for Aegon and a shattered wing for Sunfire, making it impossible for him to fully fly again.
After the battle, he took over the kingdom for a year while his brother recovered from his wounds as Prince Regent and Protector of the Kingdom, during which time he wore the ruby crown of Aegon the Conqueror. Prince Daemon Targaryen challenged him, waiting for thirteen days in Harrenhal until Aemond stopped attacking the Riverlands and engaged him. Aemond arrived at the fortress on the back of his dragon and accompanied by Alys, who was pregnant.
After leaving her on the ground, he engaged in a bloody battle over the Eye of the Gods, which ended with both horsemen and both dead dragons stamped on the ground, at the moment in which Prince Daemon stuck his Dark Sister sword in Aemond's eye. Aemond's body, tied to Vhagar's chair, sank into the lake. His body, along with Vhagar's skull, was recovered years later, with Dark Sister still nailed to his eye socket.

There's a good occasion for broaching this subject now. In a recent interview with The Wire magazine, Ariel Pink – the Lomo Beck set to become chillwave's first crossover star – got talking about "beta male revenge", that staple of Corrigan fantasy. Apparently, their intelligence and empathy means that "beta males have got it figured out so that they don't have to chase or rape their prey, so to speak". Now, I had to read over this sentence a number of times to ensure that I hadn't nodded off and fallen prey to some hypnagogic misunderstanding, but every time I went back and checked it still said the same thing. The new man, apparently, will gradually come to assert his authority over the Neanderthals of days gone by, wielding his intellect and therapeutic literacy as, once upon a time, white-shirted archetypes splashed on the Brut and flexed their biceps. Pink's life-script is basically swiped from the half-forgotten eighties college-movie spoof Revenge Of The Nerds: tellingly, above cover art showing its heroes surrounded by cheerleaders, that film's tagline read "now it's time for the odd to get even".

WEEK TWELVE/ DRAFT STATEMENT
Concepts and Contexts
My photographic series “shadows of home” speaks to the experience of moving out of home; the good and the bad. Everyone has a connection to somewhere you can call ‘home’. There are five common emotional stages one may go through when flying the coop for the first time: excitement, overwhelming, scared, lonely and finally accepting. (Yin, 2021). My series centers around my flat mate, Tarik who I have grown up with and now flat with here in Auckland. I knew Tarik has a close relationship with his family and often makes the trip back home to see them, so I questioned him about his feelings on living so far away from them. I found he really struggled at the beginning, but after finding security in our ‘home away from home’ he slowly settled in and began building a safe space.
Research
I first took inspiration for this series after discovering lomo cameras, “An ultra-basic camera with a fixed lens, one shutter speed, and manual focusing. And you have to advance the film manually after each photograph.
She employs light, colour and people to convey an intense chaos in her compositions, making the viewer feel as if they were there in the moment. I took inspiration from the power of storytelling her work portrays and the sense of nostalgia I felt viewing it.
I found her photographs transported me to a very peaceful place, she often uses soft natural light to add a dreamy yet lonely dimension to her photographs.
My research motivated me to utilize multiple exposures as my form of photographic manipulation, I felt it was a fitting form of manipulation to create a raw and personal series.
My compositions work better in the order I have placed them, similar to the emotional stages I mentioned earlier. The first places Tarik with opposing profiles, emphasizing the mental battle, feeling overwhelmed and scared. These profiles are double exposed with a shot of light beaming in through a window, a metaphor for the relief of settling in that is to come. The second, poses Tarik again with two portraits but this time a bit more relaxed, a hand on chin. This is layered with a shot of washing, an annoying chore that you get pretty used to when beginning to fend for yourself. Finally, the third composition frames a peaceful photograph of Tarik pondering around in the garden within a close-up shot of his face. To me, this speaks to the final emotional stage: accepting. Tarik has begun to enjoy his independence and accepts the new chapter he has found himself in.
