loook i get why the idea of riding the "anti/pro" fandom disk horse makes people gag a little in their mouth and try to opt out entirely, but here's why i went from feeling exactly the same way to taking a firm profiction stance. I've been meaning to make this post for a while.

~10 years ago, I posted a fic for the first time and it got its own harassment campaign. The fic wasn't even sexual, and wasn't going to be (it remains incomplete). It was accurately rated T on fanfiction.net. Anyone in the Fairy Tail fandom will understand this: I literally got harassed for writing a "Lucy leaves the guild" fic💀.

After many nice comments, someone left a pretty nasty one. Hurt, I messaged them back. They acted super attacked that I'd responded (lmao) and after we argued, threatened to "rip my shitty story apart in the comments section" if I responded again. I told them "go ahead lol."

They went ahead.

Now know that it was a relatively small harassment campaign, but at the time, it was devastating. Right around then, I wound up in the hospital. After I got out, I went to excitedly check my fic, and found several reviews saying things I wouldn't repeat to my worst enemy. I was suicide-baited more than once, told "thank fuck you finally abandoned this shitty story, dumb cunt," stuff like that.

There were several accounts involved, and I can't say for sure, but I suspect at least a couple different people were involved, though probably at least half of it was one person.

All the other comments were screeching about how I hadn't updated, mostly. "NO UPDAAATEE WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPENS TO MEEEE??!!!" was one that stood out after I'd been miserable in a hospital for an extended period of time.

Idk what people think is going on when FT fic authors write this trope, and frankly I don't give a fuck. Because while I was partly writing the story out of some young, cringe feminist rage, I also did genuinely have a real story I was compelled to tell. I was inspired by another, popular fic I loved which used the trope to talk about how trying to shoulder our burdens alone really just hurts both ourselves and everyone who cares about us.

My own story was ultimately going to have similar themes, with more focus on strength, what it means, and in what contexts earning and having it actually matters. In retrospect, no wonder I wound up in hot water, because at the time "Lucy vs. Strength vs. Misogyny" was the FT fandom's Designated Nonsensically Activist Debate™. But that's partly why i wanted to write about it; engaging with the fandom had gotten me thinking about it 🤷‍♂️

Not too long after that, FFNet oh-so-benevolently granted us the ability to delete comments from our own stories (they never took my reports seriously at all, afaik). I deleted all or most of the harassers' comments (may still be a one or two up, and i'm fairly sure there's a couple comments defending my fic from the harassment) without saving screenshots, which I really regret now. I was just so mortified and full of self-loathing about the whole thing that i wanted to forget it completely. Something that had brought me joy at a very lonely, vulnerable period of my life had turned so negative, and i couldn't even tell the people closest to me about it without being made fun of for writing anime fan fiction.

I didn't understand why this happened at the time, but--after a period of trying to forget/bid out of it all with a slight anti lean (a common approach I see people use, and one which I'm not proud of adopting)--I just had to figure out What the Fuck Even Happened There. And I'm telling you, after years of reflecting, wrestling with both sides, and educating myself, that this "status quo of harassment" culture which pervades fandom goes way deeper than you think and comes out of a way darker well than you probably realize. An astonishing amount of this is, quite literally, TERF shit and evangelical shit.

Trying to be in fandom and take a stance of, "Anti/Pro shit? Ew, I'm Not Touching that," is like swimming in a heavily polluted river and being like, "Poison? Cringe. Not me lol."

You might be lucky enough to be in a less-polluted part of the river (AKA a relatively non-toxic fandom, in which case good for you!)...but tbh this rhetoric and peer-signalling will still seep in.

I can't stress enough that pro-fiction, AKA "proship", is the normal, leftist-about-art-and-sex opinion. Pro-ship is against all the horrible things you're against; in fact, pro-ship isn't trivializing real trauma by equating it with fictional trauma, or trying to apply literal evangelical/radfem solutions--which are proven not to prevent or help. Profiction/proship is literally just saying, "Fiction is fiction, reality is reality, and the two don't have a 1:1 relationship. And historically, trying to censor just things we've decided are bad has done nothing but get LGBTQ+ and POCs censored. Therefore, depictions of illegal things shouldn't be censored." That's it. "Proshippers all ship problematic ships," is a brazen lie. Many of them share other fans' disgust for those ships, they just don't believe in censoring fic authors over it.

It is also taking a stand against harassment because--and I hope my own story has helped drive this home--as with all groups who adopt ingroup/outgroup thinking, antis are defined by their tactics, not actual stances on real, serious issues. What happened to me was absolutely a result of anti, "it's okay to 'bully out' anything I just don't like" mindset pervading fandom. In a way, this was the mindset's final form. They didn't even feel the need to cite a reason the trope was "bad" or "wrong"; it annoyed them, and they viewed their own feelings as a valid enough pathway for policing to go right ahead and do so.

In the interest of offering solutions instead of just bitching about problems, I might make a "how to know if you've bought into these types of views"-type post sometime. Also might come back to this and provide some sources/citation.

I read more Robin 1993 comics! These are from issues 46-51. There's a lot less screenshots than I usually make because I really didn't love a lot of the storylines.

I didn't actually fully read Genesis because I don't read most of the tie-ins that it covered and I just kind of wanted to get on with my Tim Drake binge so I only read this one and I was really surprised by where Dixon took it! Although, I shouldn't be- Dixon always tends to make Tim feel unsure about his position as Robin whenever there's a crossover between comics. But this took a step further by Tim not being able to save a boy his age who got caught up in the criminal underworld. I think it's really interesting to have this storyline be immediately after partnering with Stephanie, who has less than stellar morals when it comes to who should be saved or not. If this were her POV, I bet she would have just left Young Eli to die. At least, this is coming from her very early years when she's less experienced.

Dixon's favorite panels are to have Tim question his role as Robin in front of the Jason memorial site.

I laughed SO hard lol- Dixon's favorite thing in the world is to have Tim go back to Paris whenever he's struggling and I just have to laugh. This poor city and poor boy are meant for each other.

He says to the most serious, high-strung person he's ever met.

I liked these issues! Am I getting a little tired of Tim constantly questioning his place? Yes. But he hasn't had it easy lately. No adult is listening to him and Ari about what really happened, his love life has been completely shattered by Ari's uncle keeping them apart, and as much as he tries, Tim can't save everyone. I really like the decision to have him go back to Paris to continue training- even if he can't do so with his original teacher. I LOVED that Lady Shiva came back (especially with what happened at the end- but come on, no way he actually killed her.) I really enjoyed Dava as well. I think if Cataclysm wasn't immediately after these issues, there could have been an interesting storyline containing the drug that she gave Tim and him wanting to be stronger and faster while taking it (a la Patriot from Young Avengers) and his morals. It felt really rushed, but I haven't read Cataclysm yet so maybe in his single issues the story will be continued? I hope so!

the player character is shorter than the horse, i dont think ive ever had this pov looking up at a horse, it's scary, eyes right next to their teeth, short people are so brave, wow. this is my horse Ramune out at pasture.

she always has her ears back in the pasture and ignores me the first three times i call her but as soon as she comes over she seems happy? like she really hates socializing but is acting like she does to seem cool to her friends? i have no idea

this game is abandonware now and my copy of it seems to be poorly translated from french, so i'm not going to comment on the funny bits of dialogue, but the dialogue lines themselves were incredibly repetitive!

the game goes like this: you take care of your horse (feed, clean stall, sponge, or brush - not all at once though) which feels like it takes forever but might just be three minutes on average. you compete to win gold medals in show jumping, dressage, cross-country, and eventing.

jumping and cross-country both use the same jumping mechanic, where you change your speed between every jump to the one the game wants and then press the space bar when the ground in front of the jump turns green or white. dressage has you click the left and right mouse buttons to the beat of a metronome, except the beat of the sound and the beat of the flashing lights on the screen don't match and if you follow the lights, you're sunk. eventing is just all three events in a row.

whenever you win, the resident Mean Girl accuses you of cheating, and the Stud Farm owner says he’s so proud of you. there’s a morning-evening cycle and after the sun sets, the stud farm owner tells you the day is over and to go get rest and come back tomorrow. this happens instantly and changes nothing.

you get coins from winning, which you can use to purchase unlockable wearable items for your horse and your rider! although i don't think anything can save this outfit.

you can't customize this rider at all, either, and there's only like four horse color options and then a few custom markings.

next you go to Training in the Training arena, and the stud farm owner teaches you the one trick that distinguishes your competition level from the next, and then you compete at the next level. the mean girl is always competing in the same races as you, and she always scores exactly 85, which is honestly more impressive than getting 100, that's so specific. you have a childhood best friend who shows up every now and then to remind you to take care of your horse like you used to, and that you’ve always been such a better rider than her.

then, although i swear it’s not in the tutorial, you eventually realize you can click on the woods north of the map and go on trail rides, which get you involved in cutscenes that tiptoe around the idea of the game having a plot. so far the mean girl has been caught trying to tire out my horse & we got to chase her “to stop her from hurting herself” and then there was no resolution after she was caught. i was so surprised that she would do such a thing that i tried to take a screenshot and got this weird glitch where half of the stable turned invisible, revealing a second secret stable in the distance... so mysterious...

then we were ordered to ride out there and take a picture of the town using the camera function, which you can use at any time when on a trail ride which Is Fun! here's a picture i took of some sheep!

they're so smooth...

after that, a vet came along with a sick horse and made me ride the entire trail with him slower than a gallop, which is frustrating because the entire trail takes like seven whole minutes to complete, so i started watching videos some random kid fight a giant spider in Grounded while doing that. i also got tired of taking care of my horse ramune, but just feeding her boosts her health, and so far there's been no repercussions to just feeding her a lot and doing nothing else.

the game is pretty repetitive, but if I were still a preteen or younger and not yet aware of my surroundings and the world around me, my dreams of someday riding a Real Horse would elevate this game to a new level. you have to use your imagination and get yourself invested in it in order to have fun with it. and for some, that’s what you’re looking for. overall, it sure is a horse game, and it’s not actively bad, it’s just mid.

i'm rating this game 2.5 out of 5 stars!

So now i'll have to answer to this screenshot and ask you to pretend its the real thing ,ok? Thank you for the ask and sorry!!! i'm really hoping you'll see this long ass answer🙏

I actually talked about this idea once on twitter but YES, I do think Shadow would certainly have a reaction when seeing Sonic act all brother-ly towards Tails. Especially because i like to think seeing them could trigger some real -not previously manipulated by Gerald- memories of him and Maria. However,rather than jealousy,i believe he would be emotionally confused and have mixed feelings about this.

Note: This is complete headcanon talk, so don't take this as an analysis of who Shadow,sonic,tails and Maria are in canon! Its fanon interpretation

Don't get me wrong. Do i think he was bitter at first,knowing they had what was taken from him? yes, absolutely,but do i think that could fuel his hostility towards Sonic? not really ,Because i don't think that Sonic & Tails reminded him of his own sibling when they first met, mainly because i don't think Shadow remembered Maria was a sister-figure to him until he started recovering his real memories (cuz i doubt Gerald knew they tought of eachother as siblings when he put the fake memories in him),Plus i don't think he noticed how truly brother-ly the bond between those two was until he got to meet them better,which i believe must have happened after a few games anyways. I believe that S & T's relationship reminds him of his and Maria's now.

I think that more than the angry, hurt person he used to be,he is now just a really broken one who's trying to somewhat fix his relationship with the world and his own existence. So while i agree he must have been bitter about this issue at the beggining,i don't think it was the most prevalent feeling this situation caused him.

I believe that in the present -emphasis on present time cuz we all know he hated him with a passion at the beggining- He's mean to Sonic because their egos clash and he doesn't like his attitude (they kinda make the worst side of eachother come out lol) ,but its clear he actually respects him when it comes to their shared values. Their competitivity seems to be a consequence of his superiority complex and more of a source of entertainment to him than anything else. So I think that when Shadow sees how good of a brother Sonic is to Tails,he can't really hate him for it or say that "he doesn't know what he has",cause he knows he is seeing someone who actually knows exactly how precious the bond they have is. Someone who wouldn't hesitate to give his life to protect his little brother, someone who feels inspired by the support and presence of their sibling. Someone like Maria. (At least the Maria from my headcanons;;). The reminder of Maria's absence is always painful and enfuriating ,sure,but more importantly, i think seeing Sonic like that would make him uncomfortable,because the fact that his rival,someone who he used to hate and has fought so many times, can suddenly have SO MUCH in common with the one person who mattered the most to him,is incredibly confusing. Even weirder is the fact that in this situation,the one who's taking his place is Tails. TAILS of all people!!

And that brings A LOT of questions!!! Especially because these could be clues to what kind of people Maria and Shadow used to be,something very important to him and that he has lots of trouble remembering. Like,when Shad was a younger brother too ,was he anything like Tails? and if Tails wasn't born by Sonic's side and instead was found by him...Could Shadow maybe find someone like Maria out there and form a familiar bond again? Did Maria treat him just as Sonic treats Tails? Could Maria have even more things in common with Sonic and Shadow just doesn't remember???

My guy is NOT ready to answer any of these questions (he might be recovering the missing pieces of his broken memory and healing a bit but he still has a long way to go before he can be anything close to emotionally stable) and i'm not sure if he'd like the answers anyways. Plus,at least in my headcanons,his real memories of Maria might bring him joy and nostalgia but also tons of frustration,not just because he can't remember her at will,but also cause he gets the impression that Maria was hiding a lot of sadness and he doesn't remember why.(I imagine she tried to not bother Shad with the weight of her emotions),nor if he could help her in any way.

At the end of the day,Shadow's backstory and the reasons for his creation are the source of his trauma ,And wether he likes it or not,Maria is one of the main parts of all of that. So sometimes he doesn't know if he wants to move on from her or keep dwelling on the past,which is why i believe being reminded of her always brings him comfort ,but also emotional exhaustion ...

And In this case,he is too exhausted to be jealous of Sonic and Tails for having what he has lost.

ANYWAYS. That's just my opinion on the matter,If you think seeing Sonic and Tail's brotherhood would fuel Shadow's hatred,i think that's valid, especially cause at the end of the day it depends on how you'd think Shadow deals with his baggage,and there can be many interpretations for that.

Hm- I guess it depends. Hellscape ends with Carmen's internal monologue just before she gets mind-wiped by VILE, but its technically no angstier than canon. they gave you life (and in return you gave them hell) is pretty angsty the whole way through and examines Carmen's trauma.

Those are both little one-shots, though- I usually end my reigns of terror within chapter fics pretty happily if I can manage it. The Phantom AU (linked above) ends in a dark place but leagues brighter than it seemed to be heading towards. It isn't a terribly neat and happy ending, and it tells a story of trauma and attempted suicide and the road to recovery from these. Let's go with that one.

In Love Is A Locked Cell Door Chase Devineaux and Crackle happily start making out in a jail cell and live happily ever after!

Ok, being serious-

For a one-shot, simple (linked above) starts happy and ends happier.

For a chapter fic, Choice ends with Carmen, Julia, and Gray all living in a very happy polycule pardoned from the law with full emotional control of their lives which is fun :]

No, not really! I have a few "fade-to-blacks" or skip-overs without any detail. The one time I tried writing smut it was really forced and hard for me to write...doesn't help that I've never felt sexual attraction in my life so I don't know about that. Curse you asexuality for taking papertiger handcuff sex away from the world.

No, I'm not a fan of crossovers

I've had one or two...heavily referenced. Not in bad faith, but it was funny to see a lot of my plot and prose mannerisms reworded in a younger author's fic. I think they credited me as inspiration or gifted it to me both times so its not a big deal.

if there's a small amount of it, i usually write it as-is in the other language and use external sources or context clues to explain it. if a lot of dialogue is in another language, I'll put it in brackets and write it in english!

that's really hard- i'm going to do top three in no particular order SORRY

Love, Carmen - this was the first or one of the first fics I ever wrote. it put me on the map a little bit (wattpad..) in terms of writing and boosted upon the sword and choice when they came along. it was really fun to just be young and writing after finishing all two released seasons of the show. i still like it a lot. its just cute and simple.

the phantom au - what a labor of love. i've had other fics (evil carlotta series, cough cough) that have been long and complex but those strayed into meandering and pointless and i lost a lot of motivation. phantom combined my love of theater with my favorite show and my hunger for angst angst angst. it was super fun to write and, at the risk of sounding vain, i pulled off a very hard to pull off trope at the end and i think i did it well. i think if you read any one of mine, this highlights a lot of my strengths.

the cardinal and the kitten - this is a popular one of mine that kind of serves as an updated love, carmen. i really enjoy how i wrote carmen and julia playing off of each other and my dialogue is very strong in this one.

first all, put your hands together for the real queen, serra. she manages to be both the most annoying character in the entire game and also the most versatile. she really can do it all. she has the range!!!

it's goofy as hell but i really like the worldbuilding info dumps for my own selfish purposes. it helps that they work here since lyn is new to all this, though.

terrifying, when you think about it. i wonder if they remain friends after this or if lyn, kent, and sain never tell hausen what happened in araphen.

i would have screenshot A LOT MORE than this but my husband was watching me play and i didn't want to look completely unhinged. just the usual amount. you know what i'm saying.

this is WILD. but also how did lyn get in, then? lol. must not be looking that closely. (and I KNOW I KNOW, people are always remarking that she looks like her mom. BUT...hear me out.

also the fact that he thinks lyn is sacaean from a distance but doesn't continue to believe it up close is SUPER weird. she's literally dressed in traditional garb. if she obviously had a cloak or something that hid her somewhat, i could buy into that but it's like, rath thinks immediately that she's not sacaean enough to pass? and then two seconds later marquess araphen is like ew she's so tainted with the blood of sacae like

this could also be 50% blamed on kent standing with her (lycian knight) calling her "milady" which might have just made rath second guess himself.

I LOVE THIS CHAPTER SOOO MUCH (AND I LOVE KENT). i can't evennnn. first of all, in the previous chapter, kent expressed some annoyance toward sain about staying in an inn and lyn told him plainly that an inn was fine and he instantly accepts her word as gospel, which. we loooove to see a faithful guy.

at the beginning of this chapter, kent comes back with positive news about having secured aid and apologizes for the hardships lyn has so far endured, to which she says, "Don't be silly. You are so capable, Kent."

ok ok okKKAAAYY LYN. sain gets jealous of kent getting the attention which is honestly super funny but let's be real kent deserves a little praise!!

shortly after this, rath saves lyn's life, and in return lyn offers help in routing the enemy...because they were actually after her. kent doesn't disagree but "... ..." doesn't sound very enthusiastic either. truthfully though, i always interpreted this as him being concerned by this happening at all. someone legit just tried to assassinate lyn in broad daylight. and they even accosted marquess araphen? like...this is getting more serious and dire all the time.

anyway after all that bullshit they finally see the marquess and he's a fucking ASSHOLE.

the way marquess araphen keeps talking to kent about this is WILD. "i didn't expect to see her so tainted with the blood of sacae." brother WHAT. which i don't think i ever thought much of before, but it's nice that, while he is making a greater effort to consider her feelings, she is also doing the same thing for him. <3

i think the "get the ring back" sidequest is kind of silly but if it wasn't a long detour it seems reasonable enough. i could see lyn wanting to help ninian but i don't think she's agree to unless it wasn't too far out of the way and/or kent and mark thought it was a good idea to prevent the people who took it from ambushing them later (which could be possible!) sadly the game doesn't really go into that though.

why is beyard kinda hot tho?

also i do like that this game does quite a bit of "ten days ride" "we can make it to the castle in two days" stuff, because it really helps give a time frame reference and that's really nice.

Deeply underexplored issue here. Kent seems a little more uneasy about this than sain, though.

i do have to respect sain's stance--that if these people attacked with no hesitation whatsoever, it could mean they've joined lundgren. but the next chapter makes that stance a lot more shaky...and while kent say she hopes sain is right, he doesn't seem that convinced himself (he can tell something is wrong).

and wow this is kind of what is wrong, right? this says all it needs to. kent was right to worry about fighting soldiers from caelin. they believe kent and sain are the traitors, now. why would they hesitate?

wallace is an interesting and fun opposite to marquess araphen i think. like araphen also loved madelyn (and it's...? maybe implied that wallace did, too? or did i hallucinate that?) but while araphen instantly sees lyn and thinks she looks too much like her father, wallace immediately comments on her eyes. also, the way he immediately says his loyalty has been pledged to caelin and that he won't let a usurper on the throne... he knows she's telling the truth and i don't think it's her bright eyes that do that. he definitely recognizes some of her mom's features in herrr ahhhhhhh wallaceeeeee

i love this chapter too because it really digs into how nasty shit is in caelin right now, and how deeply corrupt the place is--not to mention how easy it is to take advantage of people when you're in a position of power.

i love the conversations between eagler and kent + eagler and sain. eagler calls sain a traitor right away, but he doesn't say that to kent. and kent pleads with him a little, too, right away: "We found Lady Lyndis on the orders of the marquess. We've worked so very hard to return her safely to Caelin." and eagler says they have no proof and kent's like "yes, but" and eagler tells him to draw his weapon.

which is like. i mean it's obvious very quickly that eagler is being held under someone else's thumb. it's not hard to see that this could happen to anyone; surely kent and sain also have families; if they had stayed in caelin instead, they might very well be on the wrong side in this dispute themselves--and if not ignorantly, then because they were being threatened.

Do not expect me to post in main tags often, I just had to post all this because Sunny, my love, my chaotic little bird man. I had to share all the stuff I've found and/or screenshotted about him with you all because I'm obsessed to an insane degree. Commentary will be included on stuff. Hit the "read more" for more, LONG POST AHEAD!

Some of the few bits of info we have about Sunny, from Clown's old deleted blog. Things of interest include him being friends with Barnaby, an inkling of what his house looks like and where it would be located, and what puppet type he was. Also, the hidden text on his picture. Keep in mind that "being quiet" was a large theme back in the old Welcome Home lore.

An actual high quality version of the Sunny-getting-grabbed-by-puppet-hands pic, since I've seen too many versions of it looking crusty, along with a high-contrast version of it to show the hidden background details.

Group photos of the OG six puppets. Also where my favorite image of Sunny screaming comes from lol. Of course, can't forget that Sunny's name is upside-down in the second pic, hinting at his nature of being different.

Note, I believe Clown when they say that Sunny is truly removed and the removal isn't a part of the story or whatever... I can dream otherwise, though, because man that'd be cool if he was removed on purpose FOR a story point. But again, Clown said he was just removed because he didn't fit into the story and they don't like "hero types" for it.

Wake up babe, the OG Frank ship is here. Franks's phone not having a 3, and also having a 6 on it could have meant something, who knows (Edit, it's their numbers from that one pic, I was tired lol). Also more "behave" and "listen" stuff included as well. Anyways observations aside, I just love how floofy Sunny is in the second pic, it gives me life. It's one of the more polished images we get of Sunny, too.

Some more information on what Sunny was planned to be. Points of interest include confirmation that him and Frank indeed were going to be in a relationship, Sunny being a "hero", and Sunny's purpose involving "blow the whistle", which when you pair it with the "be quiet" stuff and focus on "being quiet" really starts to paint a picture and makes me go nuts over what he could have possibly have done. Add the "you're FREE" and again, more things just fall into place. Anyways, "attributes already covered (bird)" makes me laugh.

Anyways onto the more inane stuff (/pos), Frank and Sunny as Ducktales OCs. Everything about the Sunny pic makes me feral and bang my fists on my desk, because he is SO flaming queer, LOOK AT HIS FACE, HIS BODY LANGUAGE, HIS MOVEMENTS, FRANK'S REACTION, THEY ARE BOTH FLAMING GAYS!!! LOVE, ENDLESS LOVE FOR THESE TWO!!!

And lastly to end this all off, Gay People Jumpscare: Electric Boogaloo 2. Sunny's beak being CONE makes me happy. Frank and him physically so close together and Frank blushing makes me happy. Them explicitly being called gay makes me happy.

These two are so delightful, and I like to imagine that in a canon where Sunny still exists, he's accepted into Eddie and Frank's relationship and it's poly and everyone is happy, THE END.

Dev Post - Workshop

From concept to end, this is a breakdown of how I did this plot post.

Concepting

This is when I put my thoughts onto paper. Each line in [brackets] is a drawing, followed by text.

Rough Rough Drafts

Dialogue is revised, with each line as its own bubble. Descriptive text in the brackets is cleaned up a little. The thumbnails become sketches, with references getting added to each drawing to make life easier for me later

The order of pictures also got revised. This is where I noticed that I wanted a certain "beat" or "rhythm" to my drawings. This is where two more thumbnails are added and the images are swapped

Sketch/Lining

This is where it gets time consuming--getting the right angles I want. This is where references photos get stretched or warped. This is also when I bust out sketchfab to find 3d models so I can find decent angles.

The "items in motion" was so difficult to me because I simply didn't get it. It took a lot of studying Hajime no Ippo and with some help by the mods of askdeoxys and light-of-unova (I don't feel like tagging them I don't think they'd be interested in this long write up lol). The end process involved duplicating the line layer, saving one in case I fuck up, and erasing/hatching the line layer in the direction of the movement.

A lot of the choreography advice was taken from here, which is a FANTASTIC write up of how to show someone getting punched. This entire page was re-done after reading and interpreting the timing.

This part was a challenge because I wanted to tackle two things I struggle with--fights and backgrounds. Eventually, I had to settle on a style, so i started with the outside shot to get a feel for what kind of colors I wanted to use for this post

Originally, I wanted to go with a yellow/black color contrast, but I couldn't get it to look right. So, I settled on a dark blue / dark blue background combo that matches the overall vibe I've had so far in the rest of my blog

Stuff like distant lights was a little challenging, but I found a brush and altered/stretched/cut items where it looked fine and moved on. I really liked the pinkish light spilling out from the ground, and it set the tone for the rest of the post.

God, even an angle like this was difficult, especially since perspective never feels right until you reach the "ah hah!" moment that's at the end of the process. There's a lot of little things like the direction of the steps and how it would look going down and make sure it didn't look like you were looking up.

ONE THING that I really liked to use throughout this process was a "stamp" brush so I can keep my character proportional, because I didn't want to have him look too tall or too short so I used a stamp brush.

It's hilarious.

After the backgrounds, the order of drawings that got finished next were in order of difficulty. This was when I decided on a lighting vibe.

These colors are striking on their own, but I thought it was a bit too stark of a contrast and it made my lines disappear, so I duplicated my lighting layer and Gaussian blurred the hell out of it and turned it into an "add" layer

Colors

I have this thing: I try to find a way to make it easier to do a monochrome post, but end up doubling/tripling my work process where it'd be easier if I used regular flats... I can't say that I don't like the end result. If anything, I love it. But man, was it time consuming.

Since the pink layer was duplicated, it was both my coloring and shadow layer, which was too time consuming. I think I'm going to be doing stuff like this sparingly, even though I really enjoy the lighting.

This took the longest amount of time, so long that I forgot to take meaningful screenshots throughout the process! Oops.

Final Touches

Small items like "wait, there's supposed to be a small crowd" were added last minute!

I decided to bump the light up to a harsh degree. Arguably, the one on the left is easier on the eyes, but I didn't want that. I wanted this to be up in your face. I wanted this to hurt.

Other edits include some sparks/electricity in the closeup with Aila's dad. I thought about extending his leg past the frame, especially it'd symbolically make sense because Aila's dad is literally pushing him down, but it looked awkward. I settled for a spark going over the border, instead.

For my favorite page, I added a background shot of some moving lights were added afterwards. I thought it'd be too jarring to move from locker room straight to the apartment.

It's also a fun throwback! I thought it'd be fitting to have him symbolically lower, yet again. This time, he really knows that he's staring at rock bottom. He's actively looking down, watching the shadow he casts gets swallowed up by what awaits him below.

This was a LOT OF FUN! But man, if I work on something for too long, I think to myself: "Is this too much? Am I pushing my characters too far down the misery hole?" And I'd start second guessing the entire post as I'm making it. I had to learn to take that voice and shove it in a locker.

I decided upon the "self harm" content warning because... well, it is. The imagery doesn't match what's typically shown in media, and a part of me thinks that the content warnings are overkill, especially since it's not explicit. I thought I'd play it safe.

However, it's also a meta way for me, the author, to tell you that this is Jack actively hurting himself. The act of purposely losing a fighting match is an act of self loathing and self destructive behavior.

Nickname(s): Probably Crumb. 😭

Age: I think 22-25 maybe. She's childhood friends with Quina and Valmiro, and personally I can't see them being any older than 25-ish.

Race: Human.

Gender: I wanna say she identifies as a woman but tbh gender doesn't really matter much to her. Like she doesn't think about it. She'd have no problems if someone referred to her as anything other than a woman or used pronouns other than she/her.

Orientation: Asexual/Aromantic (like me😋). I can't imagine her (or really any of my OCs lol) in a romantic relationship or having sex or anything.

Moral Alignment: I think Neutral Good.

Class: She started as a Fighter and later became a Warrior. She just wants to swing a big sword around.

Background: Literally just the intro in DD1 💀 She's childhood friends with Quina and Valmiro, though her and Quina are practically sisters as Crom was raised by Adaro most of her life after her parents died in a brine-related accident. She doesn't remember them much. She took becoming the Arisen pretty well actually, if you ignore the fact that some of her neighbors died 💀 She was stoked to see a real life dragon until it sunk in (idk how she can see when her eyes are closed 24/7 but y'know... it's a fantasy game, pretend 😭).

Interests/Hobbies: Fishing (ofc, she's Cassardi), she's always liked sword fighting (I can imagine her and Valmiro as kids enthusiastically whacking eachother with wooden swords until they both were all bruised up and Quina had to heal them while lovingly chewing them out), and crafting things. Like whittling or making necklaces and crowns out of flowers that Quina found (to her annoyance, she collected those for a tonic).

Language(s): Common. Is that what it's called in Gransys? Grasian? Granslish?

Height: Probably around 5'10. The tallest in the village. 😭

Colors: Blue, Red, and Brown. Those would be her fave if you pretend that she can see...

Alchoholic Beverages: I don't think she drinks very often. She's definitely gotten wasted on Cloudwine with Mercedes once or twice though. (Also just a little headcanon, I like to think that Madeleine and Mountebank are friends, considering their shops are so close by, and now I'm imagining the three of them having a night on the town while Affie follows closely behind them to make sure they don't get into too much trouble. Fournival's probably there too but he'll deny it.)

Smokes: Again, not very often, but she has smoked greenwarish with Quina and Valmiro a couple times (you can't convince me they haven't smoke before, have you seen Quina's room? I get that she's a healer but...)

Drugs: I mean, if greenwarish counts.. But no, she doesn't do drugs. She needs to have a clear head for all that sword swinging. 🤣

Driver's (Oxcart) License: Definitely not. She falls asleep on the oxcarts way too fast.

Ever Been Arrested: Besides the Aelinore quest, no. She can be kinda reckless but she's not a troublemaker.

Nicknames: Affie is her nickname 😭 Her name is actually Afaenia but no one calls her that. (Affie and Crom's names are literally in-game monikers. For some reason I'm incapable of not using monikers as my characters actual names in DD.)

Age: About the same as Crom, 22-25. Physically. I guess if she was made by Crom she'd probably only be a couple months old. 👶

Race: Pawn. Lol. Crom has loved fantasy stories since she was a kid and has always wanted to see a real life elf, so she created Affie in the image of one (but now I'm wondering, do fantasy stories exist in fantasy worlds? What could possibly be fantasy to them? Modern day Earth? 😭)

Gender: Pawn. I'm kidding. I think like Crom she probably doesn't care much about gender. She's very fem presenting but if you referred to her in any other way she wouldn't really care.

Orientation: Asexual/Aromantic. I just can't see her in a romantic or sexual way lol. It makes me a bit uncomfortable personally.

Moral Alignment: Lawful Neutral? It was hard to pick. She really only answers to Crom. She doesn't think much for herself so you can be sure that she's not going be getting into any trouble (of her own free will lmao.) She is full of complaints though. 😭 I also kinda see her as a big sister figure to Crom despite being younger than her. Always looking out for her and having no problem chewing her out.

Class: She started as a Mage but later became a Sorcerer. Though I can see her switching back and forth depending on Crom's behavior. Like if Crom's been recently injured I can see Affie switching to Mage again to make sure she's ok in fights until she's got her full strength again.

Background: She doesn't really have one... She was made by Crom. If she had a life before Crom, she doesn't remember it.

Interests/Hobbies: I'm not quite sure honestly, but she's probably a throwblast dealer on the side. Something about explosives...

Language(s): Granslish (Common). If she were in DD2 I don't think she'd be able to speak elven. She's a fake. 😔

Height: I think about 5'7-ish. She's a bit shorter than Crom but not too short.

Colors: Purple and Orange.

Fruits: Grapes. I can't really see her enjoying a whole lot of fruits. Maybe? She likes bitter flavors.

Alchoholic Beverages: She has no time for drinks when she has a hard-headed Arisen to take care of.

Smokes: She may not drink, but she's definitely dabbled in little greenwarish before...

AOT Season 4 The Final Chapters Thoughts:

I like how this part of Season 4 is Armin-centric. The first part was dedicated to Eren and then the second part was dedicated to Mikasa

Yall I lowkey forgot Armin gets kidnapped by the okapi titan

The cgi continues to improve for aot. However, you can tell MAPPA's budget went to jjk because of the amount of fanservice they are giving 😂

The Survey Corps vs past titans shifters fight was so good!!! I liked watching it more than reading it because you could see what happens in the action. Also the scene with Pieck running toward the Warhammer titan was hilarious

I like the detail of the gray people and the colored baby. The baby represents the future and it being colored represents the hope of getting through the Rumbling. I like how everything became colored once the titans stopped moving.

Levi finally killing Zeke was satisfying. Now Zeke can be reborn as Toji in jjk because we know stuff is going down there too lol

Can I just say that I love the aruani scenes? Like Annie immediately asks where's Armin but tries to play it off and Mikasa was not buying it! Then there was the other part where Annie saves Armin and AHHHH I loved it!! Her dad better be impressed if Annie got with Armin cause he is so cool

Okay that hallucigenia thing needed to go. We don't even know where it went after Eren died. We assume it died with him because everyone turned back to normal. Also, I guess every titan had a piece of hallucigenia in them, specifically in their spine that connects their CNS and their PNS. It turning others into titans was it's way to "multiply" and keep it alive

The eremika kiss was not as creepy as I remember in the manga. The lighting helped it a lot. I remember reading that part and questioning what was Isayama thinking when he wrote that

I like to think of Eren as Lelouch from Code Geass, except Lelouch lived to see the effects of what he did. Eren had no choice but to die after wiping out 80% of humanity.

On that thought, there was one part where Armin was like "we can't have conflict if we destroy the outside world." Well, we already saw at the beginning of S4 that is not the case. There will always be conflict in the world. We even see it today. Sure, Eren could have killed everyone, but you still have conflict within Paradis. We saw it already with the Jaegerists. Eren helped his friends have a peaceful life but that would end eventually once they passed.

I sobbed at the part with everyone reuniting. It was sweet in the manga, it was sweet now

I like the ending even if it is slightly different from the manga. Of course you get the 104 + Pieck coming to Paradis (Jean looking great as always lol), Mikasa seeing birb Eren, Onyakopon and Yelena (finally) helping out, Levi with the kids, and Falco/Gabi planting a tree to signify new beginnings

Now...my only complaint about this episode was the credits. WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SMALL??? i WANTED TO KNOW WHO MIKASA MARRIED!!!! I liked the detail with the other kid tho. The boy sees the tree with a hole and walks in. I think this is Isayama's way of showing that titans can return and Eren would be the new Ymir. I'm not too certain, but it would suck for Eren because he would not be free. Maybe the kid could be the new Ymir? Who knows? My question would be how would titans survive modern day. Obviously they would evolve, but can they survive modern technology. We may not use swords much anymore but there is nuclear technology.

(Edit: it is possible Mikasa married Jean based on what we see in the anime/manga. I feel like that's not a good ending for either one of them because a) Mikasa's heart belongs to Eren. It's like Rose from the Titanic. Basically, Mikasa won't love Jean or whoever she married fully. b) Jean seems to be busy conducting the peace talks with the others. Idk if he would have time for Mikasa unless they were both cool with it. c) I think it's just not a good ending for either of them. I felt bad for Mikasa throughout the whole episode and that as her ending is...idk...I would feel even bad for her)

I know Isayama is done with the series but i have questions I want answered!!! 😭 Still, I got into this fandom back in 2013 and it has been a good 10 years. I met a lot of great people from the fandom who I still talk to today. Aot is my favorite anime and I plan on rewatching the anime or buy the manga in the future. Now it is time for me to go to the next fandom aka twst lol

But you bring up something I always thought would need to be address between Izuru and Nagito and that's Nagito's resentment towards him. I didn't even think about how Izuru's "luck" would offend Nagito but honestly yeah I can see that because I can also see Nagito just being generally mad and envious towards Izuru's whole existence. Hear me out k, because I do enjoy the aspect of Nagito becoming overwhelmed with Hope fanboyness when he meets Izuru and we see within game (anime aside) that he can very well perceive Izuru's talents and Nagito becomes very intrigued to learn more about him. But I just can't get over how Nagito would...react so badly once he learns the truth of who Izuru was and how he became Izuru Kamukura. Just imagine learning that Hope's Peak was creating their own form of Ultimate Hope and they chose a RESERVE COURSE student over you? It could have been ANYONE. It could have been NAGITO. It would have made so much sense for it be Nagito given how

1. He has no relatives. Hell he doesn't even have friends. You only need his permission alone. And if something goes wrong? It's not like anyone's going to ask questions or care. No one will probably even notice.

2. He's more than willing to do it. He's Hope's Peak no. 1 stan. There would be no hesitation. No cold feet. Nagito would say he was blessed.

3. He's already going to die. He's terminally sick. If anything this surgery could be actually life saving for him. But if some people DO start asking questions well there's your built in alibi. "Nagito Komaeda? Unfortunately he passed due to illness. You see-"

4. His luck would increase the odds of success. This was a completely experimental surgery where so much could go wrong. But if there's something that Nagito's luck guarantees it's his survival one way or another. Wouldn't HP researchers want whatever advantages they can get?

5. He already has luck. The only talent that is virtually impossible to replicate. He'd make a closer "Ultimate Hope" given that he truly would have ALL the talents.

Nagito would make this analysis so fast after hearing the details of the Kamukura project. Then to add insult to injury this "Ultimate Hope" the school created didn't even stay loyal and quickly became one of the first members of Ultimate Despair? Really? Nagito would have done so much better! (is how Nagito would see it)

I can't help but feel that Nagi would view Izuru as a false idol and have very mixed feelings towards him as a result. Post game I believe he'd be a lot more civil towards Izuru given everything that happened in game. But before that? Nah chief, with the way Nagito reacted in chapter 5 after learning the truth I find it hard to believe he WOULDN'T act absolutely vile towards Izuru when he finds out his backstory. Do not underestimate how bitter Nagito can get as we so clearly saw in game what that resulted to. This boi takes shit really personal and I love that about him.

Okay, let's try to get into this, The Legend of Vox Machina spoilers obviously

First of all, I only now noticed that in the intro Vax is the only one not waking up when the strings of fate(?) Pass the group by foreshadowing!!

I love that they start with the few last minutes of the first season, they're important but also the perspective changed and so good

They don't forget Gilmore this time! More Vax and Gilmore content and I love it so much

Vax already seeing the Raven Queen, already weaving that in, my poor boy is getting tormented but I love that they do that

All the dragons are so unique and so terrifying and the voice acting is so good holy shit barely recognised Liam as Vorugal, they're all so terrifying

The destruction of Emon is so beautiful and they show so easily just how in over their head they are

Finding Gilmore in his shop, poor scanlan not being able to get some gadgets except for Vex' future broom, Vax hovering over Gilmore

I can be wrong but I think they haven't resurrected anyone yet, it's always been that they are (barely still alive) is Vex gonna be the first one??? That will make it so much more devastating

Osysa is destroying them and that is so traumatising for them. Scanlan hearing/getting confirmed that noone cares about him? His deepest fear? The twins being separated? Osysa just gets in their and rips their heart and traumas out huh?

Okay but Grog not going to the take cause he just gets distracted and finding earthbreaker Groon and getting taught a lesson from him? Amazing wonderful, Osysa would have no effect on Grog anyway but Groon knows how to handle him

Kash and Zahra following them!!!! Grog gets his beard and a part shaved off already and they all put that in there

Vex not being allowed on the ice but Scanlan is and then being in danger and noone of VM saving him, he's going through it

Oh I forgot but apparently there is a Caduceaus cameo in Vasselheim? I didn't see it but the screenshot are cool

And also RQ in vasselheim and Vax seeing her, he's being tormented

And Percy is clearly getting more comfortable with the group and wanting to be helpful and man they're setting his guilt up very well too (also I am waiting till Vax calls him Freddy)

Really showing how codependent the twins are and how much Vax needs Vex, that is shown so well and Vax getting more and more overprotective

Vax telling everyone not to touch anything but Percy doing to anyway and Vex telling him not too but Percy egging her on and Vex saying no don't touch the armour we should wait till my brother is back but Percy is too quick and do you see how his heart breaks and the horror in his eyes and the light leaving Vex' and trinket roaring and Vax I was gone for 30 seconds and the flashbacks with Vax seeing you don't need me but I need you and everyone surrounding him and Vex dead and he is embracing her and then the episode is done and I can't handle that

I for sure missed a lot but there is so much there and I have only watched them one time yet but the title credits as well and they're setting everything up so well like Percy opening up and ready to be helpful but then he kills Vex and Vax warning everyone to be careful so clearly setting his anger up as well, Scanlan is so obviously feeling left out and Pike is clearly concerned for Grog who is oblivious to it all and the warnings that his sword is evil. Keyleth still so insecure and not knowing what to do but also another home taken from her. Vex and the approval she needs from her father and how much she cares for Vax as well but also might find him a little overbearing sometimes but still wanting to listen to him and clearly stuck between those

I just love this show so much and cannot wait till the next episodes

Also let me know if I missed moments there was so much and I need to rewatch them like a hundred times

Okey-dokey. So, I rambled this ramble a week ago and deleted it, since in the process I came full circle. I still expect to end up here, where I am, but...I'm going to write it out anyway. Again.

What's the hold up? Well, I am still pruning pics for one single scene! (Day at the Lands') There are enough there to be its own full chapter, which i think I may have done on purpose (?) since I clearly went back to it. I mean, I know what I wrote so I'm glad I found the pictures, but they weren't even in the same freakin' folder! (That comes from actively triple booting a few years ago between Win7, Win10, and Linux - they're all pointed at the same game files but the screenshots are saved wherever and I'd forgotten about that at first.) And with a backstory, unlike gameplay, I can't whittle it down to 10-15% of the zillion pics I took and still tell the same story. They're all pretty damn deliberate, with only 1 or 2 alternative perspective shots, so I've only shaved off about 50% and who's going to read all that? Especially sandwiched in with the rest. But then who apart from Peni was going to read it anyway and I don't think she minds the length (?) But I have noticed a few more old friends still around so who knows, who knows.

I still fully intend to post the Starrywood thing as one thing (lol), for myself at least, because it is one day. But I was also going to break it up to be more palatable and manageable to anyone who's not me and maybe pop those sliced up posts on my backup Wordpress or something or maybe even...LJ (yikes!) Not tumblr, that's just too much work. I see they've raised the pic limit and all but tumblr is for montages and minisodes only. However, R.E.S.P.E.C.T. is not as big as all that. Though it is more immediately significant to the story as told thus far and there's the crux of my indecision...

So...there are 3-5 major scenes, depending on whether I tally by length or significance. I expected it to be a three act deal. Like, the first covers three days, the next about three weeks, and the last about three months. Conceptually, I like that. Textually, I like that. But the party scene pictures might give me the same amount of trouble as Day at the Lands'. And I just don't want to subdivide any more than that. It would obviously make things easier, but less...I don't know, I've lost my word, but anyway, just don't wanna do it.

Since it can be it's own thing and it's all written and my personal 'let's see if we can actually still do this' deadline has already come and gone, I've been hemming and hawing about just posting it by itself. A peek into the past rather than a full-on gaze backward. It's a familiar cast, it's fun as hell (I think), and it's long as a thoroughgoing slice of Land life but not plot revealing, so...maybe? It's Day Two in that Act One setup (Day One, basically, is the plot. So, no on that one though it's also ready to go.) But it is the anchor scene and if I throw it out there now what's the point of anyone reading it again, in full, in situ, in context?

(Oh, here's where I should probably say that in reality, two or three readers max, but I still think in terms of ideal reader and ideal presentation. Otherwise what's the point? It's a sim story, yes, and I give myself great latitude with that, but if there's someone out there who actually likes it I want to give them the real story, not a compromise. Also, while I am not my ideal reader, no, I am my primary reader, so I myself actually want the story itself and not an approximation. And then, as a general rule, I like to present a layered story that can be approached and appreciated at whatever level any given reader engages. At the level of having zero background knowledge or interest in following along and still having a laugh if you stumble across it. At the level of catching some or most or all of the little details and callbacks and suspected foreshadowing and feeling fully immersed in this little bit of nonsense that we're all playing with. At the level of actually reading this post and knowing wtf I'm on about, lol.)

If I excerpt it out, I probably would remove most of the fun stuff and just do a tumblr montage and...that is not the task I set for myself. Finish and post a chapter of Something. That is the task.

As I'm going along, however, I keep remembering why I set it aside. I said it didn't matter because there is no such thing as 'here' anymore after such a long absence...but it really does not go here. In the timeline such as it is. So I thought, well, if I (finally) unlock the Contrajocques chapters that's enough context. Will eliminate any need to revisit the Garden Party chapter because it covers the same ground, enough to lay out the parallels to the party scene from Act Two that I mentioned. Along with some other things. And if I pace them out a bit it'd give me enough time to link the pics and post Act One, prune Act Two, and maybe write a damn ending and finish shooting Act Three. (Or maybe not.) (And actually much of the hold up there is that I'm 95-99% sure I did sketch out an ending and I can't find it!)

But then I reread the Contrajocques chapters and the reason they weren't posted is because too much is revealed that the Desiderata minisodes were meant to set up. Most of those are ready to go. In drafts here on tumblr so I thought, eh, go ahead. Buy even more time! But the reason they're not posted is because the whole For Always Roaming detour is actually connected in a weird way. Can be overlooked and sidelined to get on with it, but to do so kind of invalidates that whole side story. What's the incentive to get back to it then and where on earth would I randomly stick it? (Also, there's not a Hart to be found in R.E.S.P.E.C.T. They're not in Widespot yet and, frankly, Val got his own freakin' spinoff show, so as he/we said, it was time to get the hell off the stage. For a bit.) And what's the hold up with all of this...yup, of course, it's the Starrywood saga. That nobody asked for and is tangential to the BaCC at best, but it lays some foundations that will be built on in that still open round of the BaCC and beyond. And it's just too big for me to take on right now. Ugh.

So I keep ending up back where I started. Finish and post the thing you said you were going to post and silently stick it where it really goes when you and the story finally catch up to it. And ignore the fact that some of the callbacks are to things that have not yet been shown.

...I guess.
