I love the sims 2 because it will completely wreck your shit right when you’re least expecting it

#i’ll set the scene for you: i’m doing the prosperity challenge (basically a challenge where you create a number of completely randomised #families and you play them in rotation. rules vary but generally the goal is to make all your sims as successful as possible #and it’s meant to add some variety and drama to the game)#so i’ve played through the first four families which were all some variation of either grandparents or teenagers looking after kids #just because that’s how my rolls fell. so i got to the last house which was just one adult man and i was like okay.#i JUST need an heir out of him. just ONE. and things were going great! he already had a boyfriend (the random uncle of the first family #i played realllly liked him and i was like ‘this might as well happen’) so i had them try for baby. then his dream job (slacker lol)#came up in the newspaper on the FIRST DAY and he kept getting promoted! i also had him adopt a stray dog i thought was cute #his pregnancy went unbelievably well. he only passed out while eating one time. i allowed myself to be lulled into a false sense of security #and then mans ✨WOKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND GAVE BIRTH TO QUADRUPLETS✨#look this is honestly on me for downloading the triplets and quads mod. i don’t even know why i do it. just for the risk factor?#regardless there was only a 3% chance for this and yet it STILL happened. on the first birth in the neighbourhood no less!!!!!#bear in mind this man is living in a 2 bedroom starter home; has one paycheque (GROCERY STORE CLERK) AND he’s just spent a bunch of money #on his new dog. and we can’t exactly sell the dog’s stuff because it’s essentials #i managed to find the money for 4 cribs and a nanny fucking Somehow. and then carnage ensued #i don’t think this man bathed for 3 days. i got the dog a job and then realised it got weekends off so wouldn’t be going #aging them all up into toddlers aged ME. i think they’re technically classified as some being a day older than the others but idc #i’ll rectify it at the next birthday. or at one of their birthdays anyway #it was just SO messy. next rotation should be better though??? i had him marry the kids’ other father (who is an elder so will probably be #around approximately 5 minutes) who bought in exactly ��5 but at least there’s an extra person to change diapers and get bottles #i see a lot of nannies in these kids’ future i fear #personal

#romance novel blogging #lol there are so few authors that do children effectively for me #like... lorraine heath is one #very few others #it's getting to the point where i'm almost just not even trying kid books from my faves #bc there's a strong chance that i just won't enjoy it #even the IAD book with a kid is like my least favorite IAD book #what's funny is that technically the heroine i'm writing is a mom?#but to be fair she isn't one until p late in the book #and babies are easier to keep off-page #and i'm deliberately writing a heroine who LOVES her baby #but does not find motherhood easy or natural #and like takes advantage of the privilege of having nannies #and feels kinda bad about it but is overall like i am a loving mother but being a mom isn't my favorite role #bc idk i think that's important #especially when you're writing a historical wherein motherhood wasn't always something women could opt out of #and especially in this day and age #to have heroines who like do accept motherhood and do love their kids #but aren't like... 'oh this is my favorite thing in the world'#like she's a solid mom and she's a loving mom but would she be a mom TODAY? if she had options? who knows #anyway that's another thing i just really don't often have time for kids and parenting in romance

I have worked so hard but am still not finished for the day wahhh. getting close though I just gotta leave feedback on one last long essay. I ran out of nanny time so first I am taking a little break to let the baby nap with me in the big bed. gosh I hope I never ever forget what this feels like 😭 there is nothing cozier than snuggling a sleepy little baby.

i cannot believe it's already the end of another month and i move in 6 weeks lol

#u have never met someone less prepared . less last minute than this girl right here with stuff like this #i packed for my entire service year (to which we could only bring 1 government issued duffel bag) the NIGHT BEFORE .#if i didn't have to actually like go through my room and belongings i'd prob do the same thing this time #but only giving myself like ... maybe 3-4 actual solid weeks to do all of that and pack and make decisions on everything bc .#i'm not coming back lol like i don't know when i will even to visit . still insane behavior . but i just work best under pressure <3 #i'm only working 3 more days before i'm done nannying 🫣

#i said that 'nanny' is one of those horror(-adjacent) movies that is tailored specifically for my gaze #well 'skinamarink' is one of those horror movies that is tailored specifically to piss me off #i can find something to like in literally any movie. that one tested that theory REAL fkn hard #the only thing i can say i like about it is that it exists for people who love that kind of thing #and in this era of disney monopolies and bloated overpriced blockbusters.... we actually need more skinamarinks #but god damn. fuck that movie LOL #i think about the plosives and the five-minute shots of absolutely nothing and i start tasting blood is2g #i didn't even get to the toy phone or whatever before i had to turn the shit off. why was everything taking so long #that should have been a short. it really should have.#mind you i lasted an HOUR!!!! and i still got nothing out of it! like three total things happened in that hour!!!!!!#when i saw i had FORTY FIVE minutes left i wanted to cry. dead ass

Today on bad decisions, I started reading a really good ebook and was like “oh I’ll just knit at my grandma’s, I don’t need to bring my iPad with me.” Stupid. Stupid behaviour

#was literally thinking about the book the whole time and reading it in snippets on my phone #which obvs Not the best thing to do when you’re visiting your grandma #i did knit like 2 more inches of my sock though #oh and because someone usually asks: the book is called the whistling #it’s by rebecca netley and i’m not sure why it sucked me in the way it did. but it did #listen i’m just a sucker for the gothic horror subgenre of ‘woman with Problems and who is probably hiding a terrible secret gets a job #nannying at a big suspicious remote house for obtuse owners who have a creepy child. and has to deal with ambiguously supernatural threats’#other recs: the turn of the key by ruth ware; bone china by laura purcell; the nesting by c j cooke #yes i know i should read the turn of the screw yes i own it no i haven’t read it #i think this type of horror/thriller situation just really gets me because i can imagine it happening to me lol. for a while i really wanted #to be an au pair; and i can just vividly imagine showing up to what seems like a really good offer of employment #but then the kids are creepy and hate you; the parents are deeply suspicious; you have like a 3 hour ferry crossing before you can reach #any type of authorities; and the attic room above you (it’s ALWAYS the attic room) has the fucking apparitions in it #and you can’t even say ‘fuck this shit i’m out’ because you’re broke as hell. horrifying #wait. is this also what jane eyre is?? should i read jane eyre.#personal
