I brought this unused Loki concept to life!!

I’d been eyeing this stunning design by @aleksibriclot for years, and a little while ago (after two years of working on it) I finally finished it! It has all the dark norse fantasy vibes that I wanted Ragnarok to be, and I figured hey, I can make it myself!

I had to up a lot of my leatherworking skills for this one, and I dove into a lot of new skills as well to try to make all the pieces a cohesive whole. It uses lambskin leather, suede cowhide, and veg tan, as well as an entire sheepskin for the cape!

This whole costume has truly been a labour of Loki love and I’m so glad I was able to share all the madness (process) and the finished look!

Just finalized the design for my Victorian-era (1870's) Loki! Spent most of the day sketching out the plans and playing around with the concepts and shapes. For the shoulder pauldron, I'm still considering my options. Right now, I'm thinking of having the top piece of it be gold with a black lace overlay, and then the secondary section being a gold ruffle that matches the color of the rest of the ruffles and gold trim. That'll probably be one of the last pieces I make, so I've got some (very little) time to plan it out. The bodice is going to be hell to sew, especially since this will only be the second bodice I've ever made before, and the first boned/interlined one. Also, I spent six hours working on drawing the designs instead of sewing, so that's super cool. I have to have this entire thing done by 6/1, which is in 14 days. Oof.

LOKI

Had to do one inspired by the iconic Djurdjevic cover of Lady Loki in her Wanda disguise, not only because, well, it's me, but because I wanted to reclaim the narrative of Lady Loki herself, who is often weighed down by transphobic optics. In the years since, Loki has grown into a much more authentic, earnest representation of genderfluidity. As a genderfluid person (and a Rom) revisiting both that early exploration of Loki's femininity and her impersonation of Wanda was a lot of fun.

So I’m rewatching Loki to finally watch season 2 (I was too bloody busy with work to do it when it came out). And I gotta say, I like it a lot. I know post End Game Marvel has been hit or miss, but the hits for me (both Spider-Man movies, Black Panther Two, Shang-Chi, Wanda-Vision) have been pretty darn good. What I like the most about Loki is:

Loki learning Casey’s name just to threaten him personally

Loki going through several years of character development in like 15 min and having an identity crisis.

Sylvia just not giving a single shit about anything (especially in season 2)

And that it feels less like a Marvel show and more like a buddy time cop drama. Especially the end of season 1 and all of season 2. It’s just Loki and Mobius running around and eating snacks and making jokes.

Anyway, I’m having fun that’s it.

✨Loki concept build reveal!!✨

After two and a half years, here he is: my Loki costume based on one of the Ragnarok concept art designs by the incredible @aleksibriclot!

Those who have been around here a while will know I was always sad we didn’t get the darker Norse/Viking aesthetic in Ragnarok, so when I saw this early design I knew I wanted to bring it to life, even if it took a long time (I’m just one person after all, not multiple Marvel studios!)

I have SO MUCH to share about the process and materials and some epic photos we got this past weekend, but for now I thought a badass transition was the way to start. 😜
