Is it true that Friday the 13th was a celebration for Freyja before the Christians started associating it with Satan?
So Friday the 13th wasn't really a thing until the 19th century, and it happened just because both Friday and 13 were considered unlucky.
So no.
Drawing Norse connections here is tenuous. There is a story involving Loki that some use to theorize as a reason that 13 might be unlucky -- but that's just a hypothesis, with no more weight than the one that suggests it's unlucky because of Judas being the 13th guest at the last supper.
Which considering how widespread the idea that the number 13 being unlucky is, the Norse origin seems even less likely. And Friday in English is named for Frigg, not Freyja. Some argue that they're the same goddess, but that's not commonly agreed on. In any case, Friday in other languages in cultures that also see Friday the 13th as unlucky have completely unrelated root words.
And frankly that's not even tackling the subject of what calendar pre-Christian Norse and Germanic tribes were using in the first place.
This is one of those "Neopagans want to feel persecuted" stories that's been around for a long time, but has less support than a a cooked spaghetti bridge.

Jersey Devil - Day 64
Race: Wilder
Alignment: Dark-Neutral
JULY THE FOURTH WHAT THE FUCK IS A KILOMETER RAHHH 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🦅🦅🔥, 2024
Happy Fourth of July, everybody! The day we get to celebrate imperialism and colonialism! In celebration of this day of fireworks and an utter lack of sleep, why not have an American demon of the day? Today, we're taking a close look at another cryptid, and another one near and dear to my heart- a creature so bizarre that it makes anybody's possible sightings of it feel like fairy tales, and a cryptid that truly embodies the idea of cryptozoology just being modern mythology. Today's Demon of the Day is none other than the Jersey Devil!
A lot has been said about this bizarre creature, a cryptid so esoteric yet infamous that even finding a common consensus on how it looks is difficult- most descriptions depict it as a bipedal creature with hooves and bat-wings, most commonly with a goat or horse's head, but most of the time it's seen as a 'you know it when you see it' kind of deal. This bizarre appearance adds on to just how strange the Jersey Devil is in-and-of-itself, however, and in order to get into that, we need to explore its folklore.
And how strange that folklore is. As the most common backstory goes, the Jersey Devil originated as the child of one "Mrs. Leeds," a woman who was distraught about having so many children. Having given birth to twelve, she cried before her thirteenth, "Let it be the devil!" Just as it was conceived, her thirteenth child came out not as a human, but instead a small, inhuman demon who promptly spread its wings and flew out of the hospital. Since then, several stories have circulated about the devil, whether it be sightings, raidings, or attacks from it in the dead of night. Even today, in spite of this myth originating in 1909, and the supposed birth of the devil being during 1735, belief in this cryptid is still prevalent throughout New Jersey.
Something that stuck out to me, however, is the prevalence of the number 13. In a lot of western culture, 13 is considered an unlucky number- there's a reason that Friday the 13th is seen as an unlucky day, after all, and it's commonly believed that it all originates from, what else, but Christianity. As a commonly cited tale goes, the reasoning for the association with 13 and bad luck has to do with the last supper in the Bible, wherein Judas was the thirteenth to arrive at the dinner table, and this was also the case in Norse mythology, wherein Loki is the thirteenth guest to arrive at the banquets of the Æsir. This, alongside the fact that the Jersey Devil was the thirteenth child of Mrs. Leeds, gives light to the idea that it was born of, quite literally, the devil's luck.
Now then, in SMT, there're not many appearances of the Jersey Devil, but the few we have do give it a nice look. While its appearance is the same as usual for most depictions of the Devil, I feel like the odd, almost horror-like artstyle used by the artist makes it look just as surreal as it should be for such a strange story. It's a shame that it's so uncommon in the series, only appearing in Soul Hackers!
Have a good fourth of July everyone, and remember, keep your burgers safe, or else the Jersey Devil might come down and swoop them up!

My 12 Favorite 13 Numbers 4 And 8 Their 42 Stories.

The Number Twelve 12
Have You Noticed? 12 Is Everywhere.
12 Hours on clock, 12 Months, December (the 12th month and the next month after this one), 12 Houses, 12 Zodiac Signs (except Ophiuchus, a supposed 13th sign), The 12 Labors Of Hercules, The 12th Tarot Card - The Hanged Man, The 12 Apostles (in Christianity). What else is twelve? My birthday. (But seriously, do let me know if you find more twelve's)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3026a655e4b6756137fd2b58885d3b04/f8c1ecbb123349a6-06/s540x810/770b1a0d2d7bfa9ff724dc5ab577756ee34b4ba7.jpg)

What comes after twelve? Thirteen.
"The Deathly Numbers"
or "Numbers of Death".
Number 13 - Superstitiously known as a number of misfortune due to its past stories related to bad luck and death. But there is so much more behind this number as to why it is associated with death.
Why? Well, "The number 13 may be associated with some famous but undesirable dinner guests. In Norse mythology, the god Loki was 13th to arrive at a feast in Valhalla, where he tricked another attendee into killing the god Baldur. In Christianity, Judas — the apostle who betrayed Jesus — was the 13th guest at the Last Supper." - Barry Markovsky. Judas Iscariot was the 13th guest at the Last Supper.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3e3ba8e604771d5b187fb545e30793b5/f8c1ecbb123349a6-6d/s540x810/0baf3838ca262a71d621a03bf3a009a0fd033a66.jpg)
13 is also famously known as the Death card in Tarot. Death (XIII) is the 13th Major Arcana card. But what does death really mean in this context? First of all, what it does not necessarily mean, is a literal death. Personally, I never viewed death as a bad thing, it is part of life and the Death card shouldn't be seen as something to fear.
Whenever something dies, something else is birthed. The end of something leads to the beginning of something else. Where there is death, there is life. Transformation, rebirth, beginnings / endings, new doors opening / old doors closing, a major change in one's life are all meanings tied up to the Death card. In order to change, to progress, to evolve: you have to let the old "die". The price of change: "Your new life will cost you your old one".
John A. Rice (@ john.a.rice on TikTok) is an artist who has created a tarot deck in his vision and whose interpretation of the Death card was done beautifully. I imagine that he tried to represent spring in it, a season of femininity where everything comes back to life and new beginnings are birthed, which gives even more meaning to the symbolism of death.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/3196487075b4cb9a5a044bc2e947a7b7/f8c1ecbb123349a6-15/s540x810/05d5f909fee30c7086da9f4ec88bf80b63ce66f7.jpg)
What else is 13? The number of drafts I have right now.
Hmm, 13... 1 + 3 = 4. Which brings me to the next "deathly number".
Number 4 - Known as a number of death in China.
Why? The number four in Chinese is associated with death because 'four' (四 , pronounced as sì) sounds similarly in pronunciation to 'death' (死 , pronounced as sǐ).
Other like 4 in Chinese is 14 (十四 , shísì) because it sounds like "is dead".
But what is 4 + 4? 8. Thus leading me to number eight.
Number 8 - Related to the 8th House in Astrology and the cycle of Karma. ∞
In what year are we? 2024. 2 + 0 + 2 + 4 = 8. A karmic year perfectly synchronized with the end of Pluto in Capricorn and the start of Pluto in Aquarius (two zodiac signs both ruled by Saturn, traditionally known as the planet of Karma, Karmic debt. Modernly, Pluto is associated with those themes as well) which call for the death of an era and the birth of a new one.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/86f252316563e9265cab769323aae187/f8c1ecbb123349a6-38/s500x750/e0f58cc106a5f1adf259f306a631c1c1754a63e0.jpg)
The meanings number 8 holds are powerful, being the number of infinity because eight sideways looks like ∞ (the symbol of infinity) because Karma is described as an eternal loop or cycle of cause & effect, Karma phala (the consequences of cause and effect, "fruit of actions"). We can also notice this in the Nepalese Endless knot, the knots forming never-ending eight's.
"Karma symbols such as the endless knot are common cultural motifs in Asia. Endless knots symbolize interlinking of cause and effect, a karmic cycle that continues eternally. The endless knot is visible in the center of the prayer wheel."
In Astrology, eight's connections are tied to everything related to the 8th House (transformation, death, rebirth, debt / karmic debt, the taboo things, etc), Pluto, Scorpio, Saturn and Karma.
In Numerology, eight stands for meanings that remind more of Saturn. Number 8 is a symbol of endurance, resilience and strength representing stability. It is the ability to overcome any obstacle no matter how hard it is. It is perseverance. It is authority. It is the continuity of life after death, reincarnation or Saṃsāra. It is the past, present and future. Ultimately, it is the aide-mémoire that everything & everyone is interconnected, that we are all one.
In Tarot, Pluto rules 20th card of the Major Arcana, Judgement (XX) whose meanings are spiritual awakening, rebirth, inner calling, transformation, epiphany, evolution, absolution. In readings, it encourages self evaluation to make life altering decisions in achieving personal growth and progress. The Death card is also ruled by Pluto / Scorpio.

Now, the last number I'd like to talk about is...
The answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything: number 42.
The number 42 is significant in Douglas Adams' “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy,” because that number is the answer given by a supercomputer to the question “the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything.”
In the Buddhist tale the answer to the question, “What is meaning of life?” is, “To be”. 42 is the alphanumerical sum of "To Be". T is the 20th letter of the alphabet. O is the 15th letter of the alphabet. B is the 2nd letter of the alphabet. E is the 5th letter of the alphabet. 20 + 15 + 2 + 5 = 42. The lesson is; “You can have the answer to everything handed to you, that doesn’t mean you have the wisdom to understand the answer.” - JosehfMurchison (someone on the internet)
In programming, an asterisk is commonly used to translate as "whatever you want it to be". In ASCII language, the most basic computer software, "42" is the designation for an asterisk. A computer, Deep Thought, was asked what the true meaning of life was. It answered as a computer would. 42 = "anything you want it to be."
So, what is the meaning of life? 42.
By the end of this post, I hope you'll realize how everything is connected to each other in smaller or bigger ways.
Honorable mentions: Number 9 (In numerology 9 represents the completion of a cycle, realization of full potential, endings & beginnings. And I mentioned 9 also because: Ford Prefect (also called IX) is a fictional character in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by the British author Douglas Adams. May have added this as a hint for a certain something.)
Thank you for your time.

Friday the 13th
I wouldn't be much of a blog about folklore and superstition if I didn't take Friday the 13th into account, now would I? I also wouldn't be much of a tumblr blog if I didn't acknowledge one of tumblr's mini-holidays. So what makes Friday, especially the 13th one, so special and just how did it all get started?
Let's start with the number 13 since that's fish in a barrel. Or is it? For instance a lot of us were always taught that the number thirteen was considered unlucky because that's the number of disciples that sat down with Jesus for his Last Supper and obviously that didn't end well. In fact, in Victorian times, having thirteen dinner guests was believed to be courting death for you or someone else at the table.
On an interesting aside note, there was apparently a club in the late 1800s, started by a man named William Fowler that used to meet for dinner on the 13th night of every month to sit down to a thirteen course meal in room number 13 of the club Fowler owned. After they walked underneath a ladder to get to the table of course. Four US presidents, including our hearty Teddy R, were members at one time or another. The club was simply called, what else? The Thirteen Club.
There might be more to the number thirteen's public image than just a divine dinner gone horribly wrong however. Or - more than one divine dinner gone horribly wrong. Tradition has it that in Norse mythology, Loki became the thirteenth dinner guest to show up at the feast where he would then go on to trick Baldr's blind brother Hodr into killing him. Baldr's death was seen as the beginning of the end for the Norse gods.
Thirteen is also the victim of being the sibling immediately following the 'golden child' of numbers, 12. In some circles, the number 12 is considered the perfect number. There were 12 loyal disciples of Jesus, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules and 12 months in a year. What can you be after following such sheer popularity but unpopular?
The Code of Hammurabi, the oldest recorded set of laws, skips law number 13. Most historians chalk that up to clerical error but its enough to make others speculate.
Friday though is usually seen as a good thing, at least in our modern world where it marks the last day of work before a weekend of freedom for both workers and school children. There's even a chain restaurant named TGIF, the positivity associated with Friday is so ingrained. Friday, going back to our Norse myths, was also considered 'Frigga's day', an extremely lucky day to get married on since it was the day dedicated to the goddess of homes and families. By itself, Friday seems a perfectly fine day, even one with good associations.
Slip it back just a bit however and we're right back to the Last Supper and the subsequent 'Good Friday' and a crucifixion. Friday's bad timing doesn't stop there either. In some Christian traditions, Friday is also the day that Adam and Eve ate the fruit that got them booted from Eden; its the day that Cain killed Abel; its the first day of Noah's flood and its also the day the Temple of Solomon fell. None of those have actual dates in the Bible, much less weekdays assigned to them, but the tradition persists. By itself, Friday might squeak by but when you add a 13 on the end, suddenly its not getting off so easily anymore.
What might have helped seal the deal about Friday the 13th, in at least the European conscious , happened in 1307, when King Philip IV of France had the Knights Templar, one of the most powerful, wide-spread and well-known military organizations of the time, rounded up, tortured and put to death. The date? October the 13th.
It was a Friday.

All 20 + the wildcard of “how much of a literature nerd are they” for Loki
( @izunias-meme-hole )
Oh boy you got it! Fun fun here we goooo
1- Favourites thing(s) about this character?
Genderqueer! Parent of fun horrors whom he loves dearly! Mischievous fun! Inspires devoted love in someone (Sigyn) despite being disliked and abandoned by the rest of the world! God of stories meta fun! Trickster with a good heart!
2- What song(s) remind you of this character?
The Poet and the Muse by Old Gods of Asgard! Banger song and changing fate vibes wrapped up in a spooky weird story
3- Do you like this character?
No. I LOVE HIMMMMM
4- Would you write about this character?
Absolutely I do need to don’t I
5- What do you not like about this character?
That media doesn’t often portray him with his kids 😔 also don’t like it as much when he’s portrayed as being too on the evil side, I like him to be sympathetic or at least to have a bit of nuance
6- Favourite thing this character has said?
I’ll go with comics Loki specifically for this one, also I’m cheating and treating an extended monologue as one ‘thing’
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4ea6456591a7d44b7daf94756be59c3f/9b8e5546a8837498-34/s540x810/67c27d7d567068cb3380e84ddfae2104da8e54c7.jpg)

7- What do you like most about this character?
TRICKSTER TROPEEEEEEE
8- Do you think this character is underrated or overrated?
Hm idk. All versions of Loki deserve ALL the love and praise and attention. I think comics Loki is decently popular? He is…rated ig lol. Myth Loki tho? Underrated gem
9- What’s your favourite headcanon(s) for this character?
Oh I’m realizing I haven’t actually heard many other people’s headcanons about him. I’ll make one up rn instead hmmm…he plays a musical instrument of some kind, something nice and bard-y that can be sat with and played by a campfire. Guitar? Nonono wait LYRE he plays the lyre get it it’s perfect
10- Who do you like to ship with this character? (If you do of course) Is it another character from the cast or is it an OC?
I’ve never really shipped him with anyone tbh, buddy needs to get himself some friends who love him unconditionally so he has a support system before that happens. I volunteer
11- Who do you not like to ship with this character?
Uhhh hmm idk shipping slips my mind more often than not, I have to be reminded romance can exist lmao but yeah ig I don’t really like shipping marvel him with Sylvie. Or Verity, haven’t seen it but I’m sure people do, for the reasons listed above^ I do adore their friendship tho it is so special to me
12- Have you read any fics about this character? (if it’s not an OC)? Can you recommend anything good?
I HAVENT STILLLLL 😭😭😭 that said if anyone seeing this has one to recommend do share 👀
13- Contrary wise if it is an OC, what’s your favourite story with them in it you’ve written?
I still haven’t written for him either 😔 he is in my head constantly tho in many Scenarios they have just not reached the concrete stage
14- What outfit would you really like to see this character wear? Or what’s your favourite outfit of theirs?
Aoa Loki god of stories has always been my favorite look for him but if I had to change anything it would be to add more of the fur, give him some Genesis-level fancy boots, give him longer hair with maybe a little braid or two that he put in there fiddling with his hair while bored, and then unleash him upon the world
15- Favourite line of theirs?
I think this is a duplicate question so I’ll go with a different version of him now, how about Twilight of the Gods Loki? This scene destroyed me
16- What do you think would improve this character? Like, character-arc wise?
I am so so bad at criticism, uhhh in general let him have his kids and let him go a little quirky crazy while still being sympathetic
17- Have you ever had a crush on this character…?
Crush? No. Squish? Yeah. Gender envy? Absolutely all the time
18- What’s something you associate this character with? E.g. a certain colour, object or scenery?
Winter for sure. And campfires. Snowball fights
19- What would the show/book/movie be like if this character wasn’t present? (if it’s not an OC)
:((((( I WOULD CRY. AND IT WOULD HAVE THE LIGHT AND JOY TAKEN OUT OF IT
20- Contrary wise, if this character is an OC, how does their presence change the story?
HIS PRESENCE CATERS TO ME AND MAKES ME HAPPY :) also adds wonderful solace and acceptance and representation of people who like to be a little weird and end up outsiders
Wildcard- how much of a literature nerd are they?
Massive nerd. Literature anarchist, will say anything is literature and he’s right. If he was in a stuffy high literature class in some university he would write his term paper on a comic book or a video game or something, and he constantly references any type of storytelling medium. Can pull references and examples from random stories out of nowhere from the most obscure books/movies/video games/etc
#TY FOR THE ASK#love the mix of characters/fandoms I’ve been getting hehe#ask game#loki#star rambles

INTRO POST! FINALLY!
I’m probably forgetting some stuff, so this might get updated.
My name is Casey, you can also call me Cas. I use he/they pronouns, idrc which ones you use. I’m asexual omniromantic, and I’m transmasc and nonbinary! I'm also AuDHD. If you’ve been w me long enough, you’ll remember when my url was something different. Fun fact I actually never posted about that change so y’all just had to figure it out for yourselves. I used to be fandomtrash67, back when my blog was just reblogs and likes and nothing important, when I was only on here like once a month.
I have personal tags! cas has thoughts is my original posts, but not all of them. The site I used to sort through the frankly copious amounts of reblogs I have still filtered out when I had full thoughts in the reblog, so it's missing some. cas does things is my polls and asks and shit.
THIS POST IS MY MAGNUM OPUS: X
This is mostly a Doctor Who blog, ngl, but I’ll randomly post about some other fandoms too (which are listed below). 12 is my favorite Doctor, followed by 10. My biggest ships, in order, are: Thoschei (literally insane about them. Mostly twissy, but all variations too), 12clara (I also fw 11clara), and Timepetals (all variations).
I am currently on season 13, and I only started watching within this last year. When I was younger, I was so fucking in love with Timepetals that the end of season two made me so sad I stopped watching the show for almost two years. I’m back, bitches! I’m still trying to catch up.
I am a destiel sleeper agent, they will show up randomly.
I am a fic writer, but I’m sorta inconsistent on my posting. Find me here: X
Unfortunately, I am American, so US politics will show up sometimes. Shit fucking sucks.
FANDOMS/SHIPS BELOW CUT
Buckle up, because this is my insanely long fandom/ships list! IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER! BOLD IS MY FAVS! THIS IS REALLY FUCKING LONG!! (The bold is only showing up for me on desktop and not mobile, so sorry if it's like that for yall too)

I’ve always low-key (haha) had the headcanon that Narfi went to Valhalla because he fought back against Vali to try to get him to be sane again and that he’s just on a different floor than Floor 19
This headcanon is also usually accompanied by a scene of Sam and Alex trying to find any other children of Loki in Valhalla to form a support group and finding just this scared like 13 year old carbon copy of Loki who just wants to be left alone
Just thought I’d share bc I saw your trials of Loki au and the angst multiplied
Oooooh i love this!
I usually headcanon that they're either in Helhiem with Hel or (because according to Google Viking bodies were burned to help elevate spirits to their afterlife) their souls are kinda stuck in the chains.
But the amount of angst potential we have with your idea.
Cus Narfi being in Valhalla implies a few things. Either there was some reason a Valkryie at Narfi and Vali's death. Or the Aesir themselves decided to add salt to the wound to Loki because with Narfi being in valhalla means that he's gonna have to be on the other side in Ragnarok.
Also i feel like he'd just hate Sam cus shes a Valkryie. He probably hates all Valkryies with their association to Odin but the fact that one is his sister—his own blood is on the side that tore his family to shreds enrages him. He sees her as a traitor.
Oh and Alex is cool to him I guess lol
Also them trying to tell him that Loki is evil and him not listening to any of it.
Imagine if he joined the wedding crashing in Hammer of Thor. The amount of emotional damage it would cause to almost everyone involved.
#Wolffox speaks#mcga headcanons#loki mcga#the loki angst will never not be fun to me#mcga loki#mcga narvi and vali#The fact that everyone is just suddenly banding together to inflict as much emotional damage towards Loki and his fam

The history of Friday The 13th
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4774fbfefc7d4aa609a2722b8838212b/ff5d8a1f83821e13-97/s540x810/c77d0bd9381c0a68d959a8313e64b2d863b227a7.jpg)
"The Death of Balder," by Danish painter Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, depicts a scene from Norse mythology. Balder (son of Odin) lies dead after being struck by a mistletoe spear thrown by Hödr, his blind brother. Hödr had been tricked by Loki, who can be seen behind him, stifling his laughter.
-
Friday the 13th has long been considered a day of bad luck, evil omens, and general misfortune in the Western world. Its influence is so widespread that one of the most well-known horror film franchises is named after the ominous day. From Norse mythology to The Canterbury Tales, let's embark on a brief journey to find out what happened to make this day so terrifying.
THE NUMBER 13
In Magic and Superstitions (1968), the author Douglas Hill recounts a Norse myth about the death of Balder. As 12 of the Norse gods host a dinner party in Valhalla, Loki (the god of mischief, trickery, and deception), who was not invited, arrives as the 13th guest. The gods are entertaining themselves by watching Hödr throw various weapons at Baldr, who is impervious to any injury. Balder's mother, the goddess Frigg, had previously made every weapon and object on Earth swear an oath to never hurt her son, after a prophetic dream in which she foresaw his death. She had, however, left out a small tree, the mistletoe, thinking it too young and unimportant for an oath to be demanded of it. Loki, who knew of this weakness, fashioned a spear from the mistletoe tree and tricked the blind Hödr into throwing it at Balder. To the horror of every god present, except for Loki, the mistletoe spear went right through Balder, killing him.
However, in the Prose Edda (the 13th-century Icelandic text considered the most complete source of our current knowledge on Norse mythology), where the story originally appears, no mention is made of either 12 gods being present or Loki being the 13th to arrive.
There are also similar Christian associations to the number 13: the tale of the Last Supper comes to mind, with Judas being thought by many to have been the 13th person to sit at the table. The Bible, however, does not mention the order in which the apostles sat.
FRIDAY AND MISFORTUNE
Friday is considered to be a day of evil portents and misfortune by some historical sources. In A Dictionary of Superstitions (1996), authors Moria Tatem and Iona Opie say Friday was long considered an unlucky day in which one should not begin journeys or start new projects, as evidenced by lines such as "and on a Friday fell all this misfortune" which are present in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, written during the late 14th century.
Some have argued, however, that the line actually refers to the irony of the misfortune in question having happened to the protagonist - who is called a devotee of the goddess Venus - on a Friday, the day associated with the goddess in medieval astrology.
FRIDAY THE 13TH
Direct association of Friday and the number 13 seem to have popped up in sources around the mid-1800s, such as in the 1834 play Les Finesses des Gribouilles, in which a character states that being "born on a Friday, December 13th", was the source of all their misfortunes. The association is then popularized through the 20th century, possibly starting with the novel Friday, the Thirteenth (1907) by T. W. Lawson, culminating in the creation of one the most popular horror franchises of all time - Jason's hockey mask becoming one of the most recognizable icons in film and pop culture.
- Opie, I., & Tatem, M. (1996). A Dictionary of Superstitions Hill, D. (1968). Magic and Superstitions Household, P. (2013). I seek unlucky Fridays in Chaucer and find none. Things that have interested me. https://peterhousehold.blogspot.com/2013/01/chaucer.html

“Does anyone get how creepy that sounds?” It gave me a full-body shudder every time someone said my mother was remarkable. Not because I didn’t agree, but because the word was dripping in innuendo. My mom was incredible, amazing, and a woman ahead of her time. She was absolutely remarkable. But the way it was being said made me want to scream. And I know innuendo is subjective but every time I heard the word I got a mental image of something significantly less remarkable than my mother.
“Her mother is a healer of some renown, Leif,” Thor interjected. “She has forged paths where other women have found it difficult.”
“A healer?” Leif’s face darkened. “So after all this time, he still tries to replace her?”
Thor turned to face me. “Leif’s mother was Loki’s first wife –“
“Sigyn?” I interrupted.
“No. Sigyn came after Mother,” Leif corrected. “Your Midgardian tales do not tell of my mother’s marriage to Loki. I ensured that any record of their union was destroyed in this realm so that his taint would not be on her. The people of Midgard, in a different time, revered her as a god.”
“But Loki was revered as a god as well. Why would it be so terrible to have them associated with one another?” I asked.
“The god of lies with the goddess of healing?” Leif scoffed. There was a puzzle piece in my head that suddenly clicked into place.
“Wait, what?” I gaped. “Your mother is Eir? That goddess of healing?”
“You know Asgard well for a Midgardian,” Leif quirked an eyebrow.
“Yeah, I grew up on this shit. Some people grow up hearing fairy tales. I heard Norse myths,” I shrugged. Leif tilted his head.
“Oh?”
I got up and crossed the living room, careful to avoid the broken glass. I grabbed the mythology book I’d brought back from Seattle and returned to the living room, handing it to Leif. He looked at it and smiled, handing it back right away.
“I know this book,” he chuckled.
“I do too. Inside out and backward,” I admitted. Leif took it again and looked it over, opening and closing it. He sat down on my coffee table so he was facing me, subconsciously rubbing his hands across the smooth cover of the book. I was astonished that the table didn’t collapse under his weight. He was massive and fully armoured. His eyes narrowed and a slow smile spread across his face.
“I know your mother. I signed this for her when she bought it. She was great with child at the time. You, I would imagine.” He flipped to the front page. His eyes flicked across the inscription and his smile grew wider. “Yes. Althea. She was lovely, kind. Wise eyes. You must have been born soon after; she was in that uncomfortable late stage of pregnancy. Stunning though, even as heavy with babe as she was.” He was lost in the memory of my mother, his eyes closed. “I never would have guessed that was my kin within her belly.”
“You mean to tell me you’ve been crawling around Earth for thirty years, writing books and generally being creepy?” I blurted. Thor laughed. He didn’t even try to look chastised when Leif glared at him.
“I spent most of my writing time in Asgard. Or in other realms, while looking for Loki,” he explained.
“Yeah, what’s with that vendetta?” I understood not liking Loki, simply based on the attacking the earth thing. But Leif was probably a million years old and he was still pissed about something that had obviously happened when he was little.
“Loki betrayed my mother, abandoned us both, took up with a monster and was more concerned with his children by her than what damage he had done in my mother’s life. She lost everything. Except me.” His eyes flashed and I knew I wasn’t really getting the whole story. “It was by the grace of Frigga that we continued to be welcome in court.”
“I didn’t realize,” I apologized. Leif shook his head.
“And how could you? I eliminated any record that tied Mother to him.” Leif’s tone was kind but dismissive.
“Which brings me to this question. If you don’t recognize Loki as your father, why would you recognize me as your sister?” It felt hollow, knowing how much he hated our mutual parent. Leif leaned back on the chair and considered the question.
“You have her eyes. Everyone tells you that, don’t they? But you have his intelligence. Does that frighten you, now that you’ve met him?” Leif ignored my question.
“No. I am more than the genes in my body,” I retorted. Leif nodded.
“As am I. We have more than a father in common. We have our mothers in common too. Raised by healers, the children of the god of lies. I would guess we have a lifetime of common experiences. And we alone of Loki’s progeny have retained that spark that you would call humanity. We are alone, together.” He had obviously felt alone for a long time, and maybe he saw me as company in a tenuous existence. For whatever reason, he was determined to count me as his sibling. “Suppose I buy into this. What does it mean?” I demanded.
“I know not what you ask,” Leif was confused.
“Well, okay, we’re half-siblings. But what does that mean? Are we suddenly going to be having family gatherings? Going to Disneyland? Camping? Weiner roasts in the backyard in June?” I was trying to see the significance of what this new relationship was going to mean, aside from more weirdness. I guess I was asking if it was going to be cool, or if it was going to be awkward like I felt every time Mjolnir flew into my hand. Leif looked stumped.
“I taught my brothers how to fight, keep their armour in repair, charm ladies. I am not sure those are skills you would need,” he began. I laughed.
“Yeah, not a lot of call for me to charm ladies,” I admitted. “Do you have any of Loki’s powers?”
“I did not train any of my magics other than those for healing. And those were a gift from my mother.” He shook his head.
“I can manipulate emotions,” I admitted. “Like, of the people around me.” Leif raised an eyebrow and glanced at Thor.
“It is weak, but it is there. I would imagine it is much more powerfully felt by the Midgardians,” he confirmed. Leif scratched his chin, the stubble making a scratchy sound. I waited for him to say something, although I was not sure what I was hoping for. I think I wanted him to tell me he could teach me better control.
“I cannot help you there, Ella. The only person who could,” he paused and glanced at Thor, “would have been my grandmother. But she was lost when the dark elves attacked Asgard.”
“But now we know that Loki is alive, Leif –“ Thor began. Leif rose and stepped toward him, his face changing from calm to raging in seconds.
“I told you he was not dead! I told you that you should not believe he was gone! I warned you! You thought me mad!” Leif’s interruption was explosive, and Thor sprang to his feet, Mjolnir low at his side.
“That does not change that he nearly died to save me. You are my nephew because he is my brother, do not forget yourself, boy.” Thor’s tone was a cold, dangerous calm. “You are not the only one who had been hurt by him; you do not hold exclusive right to claim damage. Loki is alive. He is the only one who can teach your sister to control the magic she owns. If you are so intent on helping her find her place in the world, finding your father would be a good start.” His fingers curled around Mjolnir and I found myself wanting to melt into the couch, while at the same time, feeling the crackle of energy coming from the hammer.
“Or maybe he could teach me to fight. It’s not something anyone learns here anymore. But if your stupid hammer is going to keep shooting into my hand every time I’m in trouble, maybe I should know how to use it?” I pointed the question at Thor. He shook his head.
“Leif is not worthy, so he cannot teach you to use Mjolnir.” He looked thoughtful. “But perhaps I should spend time giving you lessons.”
“Yeah. Awesome.” I didn’t actually want to learn to use the damn thing. What I really wanted was to go back to the way I was before I’d found that stupid hammer. Just another lucky kid who’d scored an internship at Stark Industries. It was never intended to be a boring or ordinary life, but it was certainly more boring and ordinary than anything that had happened since that moment I’d wrapped my hand around Mjolnir. I was already exhausted. Adding in ‘Norse god training’ was just going to make things worse.
XXX
“So, the screaming, sword-waving psycho is your brother? Not surprising,” Angela commented over her giant, disgusting waffle. I wasn’t even hungry for my eggs, I was so overwhelmed by everything.
“How is that not surprising?”
“Well, your father is a psycho. So it stands to reason the massive Ginger beast is also a psycho,” she shrugged and took a sip of her coffee.
“Massive Ginger beast?” I laughed. I rocked back in my chair. “Yeah, I guess that’s a somewhat accurate description.” The last Angela had seen of him, he’d been charging, sword and shield ready, toward me, screaming in what I’d later learned was the Alltongue, the language of Asgard. I’d understood it in the moment because I was holding Mjolnir. It was all very confusing. Angela looked over my shoulder and dropped her fork.
“Who is that?” She breathed. I’d become accustomed to the way she was always checking out guys. It was actually kind of fun. She had great taste in men, so always was able to find something easy on the eyes to look at, regardless of whether we were in the commissary, shopping, or out for an afternoon in the park. I followed her gaze to the guy she was swooning over and choked on my coffee.
“That would be the massive, psycho, Ginger beast, Ang,” I laughed.
“He cleans up good. Wow.” She took a deep breath and shook her head. “Too bad about his dad.”
“That’s my genetics you’re slighting too, Angela!” I protested.
“Yeah, but you’re half-human so it’s okay. I know you’ll be fine. He’s half-god. Or is he all god? He looks all god. How does that work? Are they even gods? Holy shit, you’re half-god!” And Angela’s squirrel-like train of thought derailed.
“Not at all god. Just alien. He’s half two types of alien. I’m half one type. Thor guesses I’ll probably live about a thousand years. Won’t that be fucking awesome?” I was feeling snarky.
“If you get to be around guys that look like that, a thousand years will not be long enough,” she waggled her eyebrows.
“Just to remind you. That’s my brother, so grosso. More gross than Thor, thank you very much.” I made a gagging gesture.
“Yeah, but you were considering Thor last night,” Angela teased. I shook my head.
“No, not really.” I finished my coffee and pushed my plate away. “I need to get back to the lab. Just promise me I can be the maid of honour when you pin Leif down.” I winked and picked up my tray, stopping to drop it off at the garbages. Leif saw me and waved me over. I sighed and headed toward him.
“Ella!” He was entirely too cheery for the morning. “I have spoken with Thor and was hoping we could meet again this afternoon.”
I cringed. I needed a little time to adjust to all these crazy changes. Time away from brothers and uncles and hammers and myth and legend, and time just hanging out with components and screws and tools. I needed to build something to get my brain away from the chaos that was taking over my personal life.
“I –“ I stalled, “uh –“
“She’s busy. There’s an issue with the miniaturization of the quantum beam accelerator I’m working on, and as Ella is an expert in the area, I’m going to be taking up most of her time,” Bruce interrupted, holding two cups of coffee from the Starbucks in the lobby. He handed one to me and nodded with his head for me to follow. I smiled in apology to Leif and trailed behind Bruce out of the lab.
“I’m not an expert in Quantum beam accelerators,” I protested.
“You are becoming an expert in miniaturization though,” he countered. I shrugged.
“That’s arguable. I don’t know if you can even miniaturize a quantum beam accelerator anyhow,” I argued as we stepped onto the elevator, “I would be really difficult to –“ Bruce interrupted me with a kiss.
“I lied. To get you to myself. There’s no issue with anything. I just booked a day off and decided you are playing hooky with me,” he explained. He leaned in to kiss me again and I dodged away.
“Excuse me? You don’t get to swoop in all Captain Kissypants after ignoring me for two weeks!” I protested. “You got all hot and bothered and then ran away. And carefully avoided everything about me for two weeks. Not a word for two weeks, Bruce. You don’t get to all of a sudden reappear, book days off for me and kiss me in the elevator!”
Bruce looked down at his feet, his hand coming up to rub the back of his neck. “I’m sorry. I panicked.”
“I don’t blame you. But you can’t just vanish like that. I mean, you can. It’s your life. But I’m left wondering what the deal is. If you like me, and you want to spend time with me, you have to treat me with more respect than that,” I explained. He sighed and kept looking at his feet.
“Ella, please. I’m sorry. I,” he paused and finally looked at me. “I haven’t felt like this in a long time. I haven’t let myself. Your work is intriguing, and your background is impressive and I saw your CV and thought you would be interesting to work with. And then you arrived and you’re this passionate, brilliant engineer. Your brain is this beautiful puzzle, so you’re interesting. And then you have some sort of magic power that prevents the Other Guy from taking over? You’re too good to be true.”
I laughed despite myself. “I think you’ve met my father? That’s a pretty big minus in my books.”
“And maybe that’s why I panicked. I don’t know. But I’ve been miserable for two weeks. And my work is suffering. And I guess maybe it doesn’t matter. I feel calmer with you. Even when you aren’t deliberately doing it.” He leaned back against the elevator wall. “I figured, book us off for the day, take you out, show you the parts of the city I didn’t break. As an apology for being a jackass.”
“Does that work with other women?” I asked. He looked confused. “Saying their brains are beautiful puzzles?”
“I’ve never tried it on anyone before, but my guess would be no.” One side of his mouth quirked up in a smirk. I sighed and let the resentment go.
“You’re a lucky man, Dr. Banner. I kinda liked it.” I leaned back against the elevator wall beside him. “If you play your cards right, I might even let you kiss me again.”

The reason why I worship or devote the day I choose to Lady Nyx
Thursdays- I was going through the days of the week thinking about which should be spent as a devotional days for her.
I thought Monday meaning moon day was inaccurate while yes the moon is present at night it isn’t always and I thought that day could fit another deity while Lady Nyx worked with another.
Tuesday just didn’t seem like a right fit, I had no other reason but it did not feeling right. Wednesday also didn’t fit her, Wednesday is the middle of the week and just didn’t seem right.
Something was telling me Thursday it was near the end which I felt was fitting, it was also before the last day of the work week which allowed me to look forwards to something.
Friday seemed nice aswell but it’s often associated with scarier things or bad luck during current times, and that day seemed to be more tailored to Aphrodite so I wanted to keep it open for her or Loki.
Saturday just seemed like a wrong fit, something could work better then this day. And Sunday was not chosen because it is meant for the sun, something that ended the night and is more fit for a sun deity.
21- I wanted to give offerings on one day of a month as well for each deity I worship, so I could be put in a routine. I choose the 21st because I was born on the 21st day of a month. Since once I have enough experience I’m going to become a devote of Lady Nyx I thought I should spend a special day to me worshiping her and giving her an offering.
Sorry for the late post I ended up being busy this entire day and just got back on the internet. If your wondering on if I have a offering day to any other deities I do, the 13 for Loki. I still should ask if that’s fine but I think it should be.

*Naenia, "she who harbors death". The meaning of this indicates that she is meant to be the embodiment of death, directly associated with death or her presence itself means nothing good. Vampires are immediately plunged into "a fate worse than death" once she takes their True Names.
-Current malnomen of Queen Faustina. Having a malnomen indicates that she might have been a curse-bearer. Did she show any signs of uncontrollable bloodthirstiness before Ruthven and Co. tried to get rid of her? In that case, has her own True Name been interfered with in some way. If so, who tampered with it? And lastly, will she be cured? It appears to have been centuries since her malnomen manifested.
Faustina is the first vampire of the Crimson Moon, as Luna is the only vampire of the Blue Moon. She is probably - and this is just speculation on my part - as old as the Babel Incident. In other words, thousands of years old, and currently not of sound mind. She is incredibly dangerous, manifesting Chloe's malnomen within seconds. Her curse is something unique we have never seen before. The moment Faustina re-emerges, we see that the vampires are overwhelmed, struggling to stay on her feet because of her power. Or rather, the power of her essence. It was implied in Chapter 13 that her initial body is still in Carbunculus Castle. Is the mysterious entity who stole Luna's True Name the same person who has interfered with Faustina's own? As someone has stated before, they have yet to appear but would have to be extremely powerful. The panel with her and the Shapeless One shows her as an adult vampire, therefore I want to assume that sometime during her reign she became a curse-bearer or was cursed by someone or something before she could no longer appear to the public.
The Shapeless One was noted to be the vampire who stayed longest at her side, serving her. So perhaps he has an idea of what happened to her and the events leading up to it. Additionally, as of the latest chapters, he has a lot of knowledge.

Maybe by the end of the story we will find out what exactly is behind Faustina's curse, what are the events leading up to her becoming Naenia and nearly being assassinated by Ruthven and Company (the Beastias?). And there is another noteworthy point - Noe notes that Faustina and Luna look alike, and why that might be so. This is clearly important - it was done on purpose. The way it's set up, you can tell it's significant.
Afterword: the few people who are aware of the Queen's condition are Ruthven, Beastia Loki, probably Veronica as well, Luca (however a brief amount). I don't think Jeanne is, though.
