r/railroading on Reddit is a really interesting source for the practical nitty-gritty of present-day trains (mostly US and freight-oriented). It’s explicitly geared towards people who actually work on railroads vs enthusiasts, which gives a VERY different view of things vs most train media.

I’ve had a post blow up that’s about how Electra accidentally looks very different when compared to the real-life state of US rail electrification, but Greaseball actually falls in line well with the nastier aspects of present-day major freight railroads (which are allll diesel). The electric vs diesel conflict is super compelling from a US rail perspective because it’s been a relevant battle of interests for decades and has a lot of parallels to broader urban vs rural politics. The relationship between Amtrak and major freight railroads m feeds into a lot of the show’s attempted themes surprisingly well.

(If anyone has recommendations for similar sources better for other countries, please link them, I’d actually love that kind of context for ways to culture swap Stex elsewhere or flesh out the Nationals. I know Japan’s competitive and toxic railroad work culture has become more internationally known due to its relation to the Amagasaki Derailment. It’s aggravating how the Japanese Engine has always been a terrible stereotype when the actual problems of Japanese rail are relatively known and provide a lot of characterization potential.)

The Cain instinct

I demand canon moments where Silver and Malleus treat each other like siblings whenever they're alone, especially if Lilia or Sebek aren't around them. Where they show that outside of their typical treatment of respect is the fact that they were raised by the same man whom they both consider their father. They love each other eternally, they would kill, they would die and they are capable of destroying the entire world for each other, one to a greater extent than the other.

Especially since I'm sure they both have ridiculously strong Cain instincts.

One day you are a prince taking care of your caregiver's adopted son and the next a being who lives in an eternal circle of revenge and destruction towards the cruelty of humanity (Silver bit his finger when he was 8 years old and Malleus pecked his eye in Consequently, they continue to blame each other whenever they can)

Imagine a Silver who fell asleep in the forest and Malleus just finds him. If Lilia, Sebek or anyone was near him he would feign complete concern and take him to his bedroom. But he's alone, so he's going to wake up the young man he considers his brother with a loving kick in the ribs (nothing too hard, he wants to bother him, not kill him).

Or a malleus who is simply reading and out of nowhere feels a wet finger in his ear, a finger that belongs to a 17-year-old with a smile too kind for someone who has just drooled in the ear of the next king of the Briar Valley , and someone who is also a coward since he runs away the moment the older man gets up from his seat.

It is better if neither of them knows what is happening, they just know that there are days when they have to be mean to the other or they will go crazy, they have accepted it as a royal decree and will continue it until the end of their days. .

Imagine that no one knows about this kind of treatment, until someone enters Diasomnia only to find the all-powerful Malleus Draconia screaming like a dying child because Silver has him in a wrestling hold (which it is very obvious he can get out of, but… Where's the fun in that?)

Anyway, I need an irrational Malleus and Silver being a shitty little brother. I leave my delusions here.

Sobre todo porque estoy segura que los dos tienen un instinto de Cain ridículamente fuerte.

Un dia eres un príncipe cuidando al hijo adoptivo de tu cuidador y al siguiente un ser que vive en un círculo eterno de venganza y destrucción hacia la crueldad de la humanidad (Silver le mordió un dedo cuando tenía 8 años y Malleus le pico un ojo en consecuencia, se lo siguen echando en cara cada que pueden entre ellos)

Imaginen a un Silver que se quedó dormido en el bosque y Malleus simplemente lo encuentra. Si Lilia, Sebek o cualquiera estuviera cerca fingiría completa preocupación y lo llevaría a su dormitorio. Pero esta solo, así que va a despertar a él joven que considera su hermano con una amorosa patada en las costillas (nada demasiado fuerte, quiere molestarlo no matarlo)

O a un malleus que simplemente está leyendo y de la nada siente un dedo húmedo en su oreja, un dedo que pertenece a un joven de 17 años con una sonrisa demasiado amable para alguien que acaba de babear el oído del próximo rey del Valle de Briar, y alguien que también es un cobarde ya que sale corriendo en el momento que él mayor se levante de su asiento.

Es mejor si ninguno de los dos sabe que es lo que pasa, solo saben que hay días en los que tienen que ser malos con el otro o se volverán locos, lo han aceptado como un decreto real y lo continuarán hasta el final de sus días.

Imaginen que nadie sabe de este tipo de trato, hasta que alguien entra a Diasomnia sólo para encontrar al todopoderoso Malleus Draconia gritando como un niña moribunda porque Silver lo tiene en una llave de lucha (de la cual es muy obvio que se puede zafar ¿pero dónde está lo divertido en eso?).

En fin, necesito un Malleus irracional y un Silver siendo un hermano menor de mierda. Hasta aquí dejo mis delirios.

Say it with flowers

My thoughts on the SGMB live recording video.

I've had this in my drafts for months. It's one of those moments that I just can't move on from. If this has already been discussed at length I won't be surprised but just in case it hasn't....

WHO gave Jimin those flowers...?

When the SGMB recording video first dropped, i saw comments that the flowers were from Loco or from Big Hit or from the SGMB band.

I cannot agree. Did the commenters not SEE the flowers?

I believe the flowers to 'support Jimin's future endeavours' were from Jungkook.

Because of course they were.

And for those who need an explanation, here's why:

This is not a bouquet of flowers you would get from colleagues, or your management company, or even your friends. This bouquet screams PASSIONATE LOVE. It is so obvious that i can't even imagine giving a platonic friend these flowers without a lengthy explanation (or a confession), let alone a professional acquaintance.

Let's take a closer look at Jimin's bouquet:

I took the time to research all the components of the bouquet to make sure i wasn't overreacting (Me? Overreact?! Never!!)

Here they are:

Red roses - passionate love, romance, and desire - 12 of these roses if I counted correctly, which represents a declaration.

Mini red chrysanthemums - in red, the chrysanthemum means love and passion, or truth

Sacred bamboo (Nandina) - the berries represent changing hardship into good, the end of hard times, and prosperity. It also wards off evil. (7 is the leaves of the Sacred Bamboo)

More red roses - either bush roses or a smaller variety. Love, again.

Red viburnum - "To make red hot". Passionate love, Love stronger than death.

Silver Wattle - hidden feelings, hidden love. (wow)

Sacred bamboo (leaves see #3 for berries)

Difficult to identify but I think it's either Veronica or Salvia. Veronica symbolises loyalty, fidelity and love. Salvia is for protection, and red salvia means forever mine.

I think this might be pink muhly grass. It doesn't seem that common in floristry but it is a very romantic and beautiful seasonal grass in Korea.

Barley grass - time for relaxation, free time, or prosperity.

Those flowers are a grand gesture

They're a declaration of love.

Jungkook is after all the king of grand gestures...

... and he knows a thing or two about the language of flowers.

So it seems perfectly fitting for him to make his heart known with a huge bouquet.

Naturally the theme of the bouquet is very much in keeping with the theme of SGMB,

The central tenet of the song is the truth untold and, these flowers certainly tell the truth, loud and clear.

I find myself thinking about whether he chose to do it in front of a crowd of people and I actually don't think he thought too much about them. Based on what I know of JK's personality (admittedly very little, having never met the man) I believe he thought of Jimin, and Jimin only.

Did he take a gift that would not only celebrate Jimin's achievement, but also show his commitment to that love and to not hiding?

Both heart and my head say yes, that's exactly what he did.

Here's why:

Having seen AYS, we know Jimin does this parody of the SNTY choreo to tease JK. Would it have been as amusing for Jimin if JK wasn't there to see it? I doubt it, as the payoff (JK's grumbling) wouldn't happen. Where's the fun in that?

And also:

Jimin: "Can i come over for a meal?"

Loco: "We can all go together" points to someone off-screen

[Remember that Loco is friends with Jay Park, who Jungkook is also friends with]

Jimin: *looks at person off-screen* Dammit. So much for secrets

And also:

Jimin, looking to the right of the camera, which is where everyone else will be looking in a moment.

Yup, we see Loco, Pdogg, and several of the dancers repeatedly glance to the right of the camera. They seem very interested in something there, sharing their attention between Jimin and the distraction off-screen. It would seem rude if it weren't for the fact that Jimin himself is equally distracted.

And also:

Pdogg's cute head shake at this situation tells me there's more going on here than we can see.

This song remains one of my favourites. The lighthearted joy and humour that runs through the live performance, the choreo, the melody, and the lyrics is everything I want for Jimin.

Its such an awesome and fascinating topic. I never knew that it became not only popular, but empowering, because so many 18 century women were unable to access an education and were therefore illiterate.

Damn bitch I just realized watching the new episode… regardless of whether or not Undertaker is related to Ciel by blood, the whole Undertaker makin zombies that attack OCiel is extremely fucked from a weird emotional perspective I hadn’t considered before.

Imagine ur creepy uncle SUDDENLY STARTS RESURRECTING THE FUCKIN DEAD AS KILLER ZOMBIES?? CUZ HES TECHNICALLY A DEAD GUY TOO?! Like idk how close the twins got to him growing up but he was around. Maybe it’s more like “dad’s creepy friend” than “my creepy uncle” but still. That’s weird as all fuck.

If that happened to me that my weird uncle by association was a death god who made zombies I’d be shook as fuck too, no wonder Ciel looks absolutely terrified in this episode lol

Like it’s worse than just “some random loco is making zombies” or “the crackhead who gives me intel is making zombies” it’s “THE GUY WHO USED TO COME OVER MY HOUSE WHEN I WAS LITTLE IS MAKING ZOMBIES”
