a while ago on the discord i brought up the "which desk at the station is forrest's desk" question when the answer should probably have been obvious. he's been at the job for approx. one week, so it's the desk with all the unpacked boxes. it just didnt occur to me because thats Frankly A Lot Of Boxes and my first thought was this is where all the storage and junk are piled on, but no. it's all stuff forrest brought (/hc). he's a heavy packer. he spite packed all the stuff he didn't want his old job to keep even if he doesnt need or even like them all that much but now that he's blacklisted then no one in the entirety of chicago can have them
#killer frequency#forrest nash#i'm also half convinced tbh that the bulk of what he brought in are station supplies lmao#so to disingeniously bring up a further point in the tags again instead of sensibly adding to the main post#the game has this narrative tension btwn audio storytelling vs visual storytelling#especially in regards to forrest's character/impression vs the impression we the viewers have of The Town#environmentally- this town is Filthy lmao i'm so sorry everyone but like#forrest bringing up A Smell after we are Surrounded the whole game by dead bugs left everywhere#and both inside and outside the station just Looking Like That#like he's Not just being mean but he is absolutely not being gentle about it either#this touches on the town being in disrepair perhaps bc of local officials not doing much to promote/maintain upkeep#as well as clive the station janitor being BUSY with other projects lmao#but in the protag's POV where he's been upended from his life and then finds himself in a building infested with bugs#also with a brand new sleep schedule. ok he is going to be A Bit Grumpy About It (better or worse depending how you RP him lol)#but yeah i do like that very subtle tension bc this is largely an audio driven story#and in that sense it's easy to just brush off all of forrest's pettiness to him just being a mean person full stop#ALL THIS TO SAY that i think forrest packed five or more boxes of bug repellent ty for coming to my ted(dy) talk#and also more music/soundbites & tech bc KFAM is a bit lacking from what he's used to#\o/ UNCALLED FOR CHARACTER BUILDING!!

We can answer this actually we love talking about Cool Art Stuff.
Despite what one may assume, sharp edges in watercolor is actually quite easy! Come, sit, allow us to share our secrets. It's like 50% "materials" and 50% "we spent a long-ass time figuring out how to do sharp edges in watercolor and now we're really good at figuring out the exact combos of consistency and brush stroke required to make those really hard edges"
The first trick is, of course, to not try and do it at the beginning of the painting. When you're just starting to block shapes in to your watercolor, pursuing sharp edges is a fool's ordeal, and you can only really get those sharp edges in as finishing touches near the end of the work.
The second trick is to work wet-on-dry - this limits the spread of the watercolor and allows you to prevent bleeding, but you have to make sure your painting is COMPLETELY dry before painting, or you'll risk having some ill-defined lines and bleeding.
The third trick is to work with... cake watercolors? There's a tern for it, we just can't remember it - dry pan watercolors, where you have to wet the paint to "activate" it, offer you a LOT more control over the consistency of your paint, and using a relatively thick paint will allow you some REALLY sharp lines! Fair warning, your mileage may vary based on the specific paints you use just because pigment is Expensive and cheaper brands of watercolor will almost definitely be, like, cutting out as much pigment as they can manage in order to cut corners, and the sharp edges will be less obvious the more transparent they are.
As a general rule of thumb when you pay for Fancy watercolor you're paying for the insane amount of pigment that they put in their Fancy Stuff and that lends itself a lot more to Sharp Lines (plus one thing of it will last Fucking Forever). The black we use Specifically is an Artisanal Fancy Brand that we don't remember the name of and we've been using the same ~$10 thing for more than a year without even using up half of it, but honestly the actual paints you use are the Least important part of doing watercolor, you can do like the exact same thing with dollar store paints it'll just be a bit less pigmented.
The fourth trick is to just, like, practice a TON. You WILL have to spend time getting it right. It will take a Long-Ass Time. You will have So Much Trouble. Unfortunately this step cannot be avoided but we can still warn you that you'll be trying to make really sharp lines for like an hour and it still won't quite work.
The last trick is to uhh
#we speak#not art#unfortunately the people saying to invest in Good Materials are sometimes correct and good brushes are like#the number one reason that we can manage the sort of really sharp edges that we can without muddling#for context this is a fancy-ass semi-stiff lining brush that we've found allows for VERY sharp edges#it's VERY nice and it holds its shape INCREDIBLY well allowing for some very nicely defined edges without stray brush strands#however it's also like fifteen bucks for one brush so you kinda have to like. Decide If It's Worth It#we got like two brushes from the same brand from a watercolor technique workshop for free and we shelled out bc the other brushes were like#Really Good#total cost of this is like uhhh fucking twenty bucks. if you have that to spare we 100% recommend it#but if you dont then you can obtain it illegally from your local art store if youre fast enough#for legal reasons that advice is a joke tho. stealing from local businesses is bad. go after a bigger store instead.#like 60% of watercolors is having Good Technique but the really defined edges that we pull here are like purely possible bc of Good Brush#and Good Brush really makes a fucking difference tho we'll still bring in our older dollar store brushes for shit like texture#beyond that its just ignoring common wisdom for watercolor tho we do A LOT of drybrushing bc we like the texture#we like deliberately fucking up our washes to make the background look more interesting we think its Cool#every watercolor person who speaks of a flat wash being the very basis of All Of Watercolor wishes to kill us personally

The Brand as a Siren Song
Daily writing promptWhat brands do you associate with?View all responses In the contemporary marketplace, brands have evolved into more than mere purveyors of goods and services, hopefully at a fair price and with a fair productive process. They have become potent symbols, evoking emotional responses, shaping identities, and even influencing social status, for those trapped in the message. This…

edit: eye design on the pin is based off of this video tutorial by yurie sekiya, creator of pero pero sparkles.
#art#artists on tumblr#my art#traditional art#doodle#yeah thats the phone i used to take these photos#i did these around very early june this year#every year there's a festival in the middle of my town celebrating it#its pretty much an event for local organizations and businesses to promote themselves#its kinda boring because its the same every year lol#but i go mainly because 3 4ths of the stalls give out promotional branded thingamabobs and free candyyyy (😋)#one of the local libraries gives out free books - daycares and kids centers have toys to play with#and lastly kids art schools have some crafts#which is how i got to work on the cd and badge in the photo#fun fact: the stall i did the cd at gave me a flyer printed on card stock which i used to make my arrangeable v a angel face#at the second stall i actually made the pin a total of two times because i lost the first one minutes after i walked away#and when i came back a second time the people hosting recognized me so i had to explain myself#on an unrelated note they were so impressed with my second pin that they asked to take a picture of me with it#and post it on their social media. and i agreed because yay someone likes my art ^W^#soooo there is a picture of this badge and my REAL FACE floating around on the internet#i regret it in the slightest because I have the reasonable fear of my appearance being out there out of my control#though i guess that's a lost cause because ive been in the background of friends' posts and school club social media posts#btw i wrote “(to) kill” in japanese in cutesy handwriting on the pin because i thought it would be funny#and i think it's even funnier to imagine that the social media of the kid's art school just has a post of a badge saying “KILL💖”#next to my smug ass face

i may not be able to open posts from my notes or messages or get more context on posts via looking at the notes, but at least i can make fucked up coffee properly now
#toy txt post#while i was away i began my journey into coffee snobbery. im doing my best. i have a lot to learn#i have a fancy hand grinder that all the ppl on reddit hemmedvand hawed andaid it would probably be somewhat#Acceptable for pour over coffee that I got for less than $100. i want you to understand the coffee grinder ppl are insane.#there are grinders for sale that cost like more than my car did brand new. these ppl are insane? i got a chemex pour over#and a glass stovetop gooseneck kettle cos i couldnt find an electric kettle that didnt have the metal touching the water. prolly cos it#would make them less energy efficient and defeat the purpose but i dont fuck w metal water vessels cos historically They Keep Betraying Me#by making my drinks taste like ass. i got some genetic fuckery going on ig. like the cilantro soap gene but its the metal makes water taste#like ass gene? idk. but i wanted a kettle that didnt have metal and i wanted that gooseneck pour so i found one on Amazon. surprisingly#hard to find? annoying. mostly bc every search engine is bad and kept showing me metal kettles anyway. i got a grinder i got a pour over i#got a kettle i got fancy beans from a local small business i started drinking it black. im going to unlock these flavors. i will get it#but also. im still a goblin. i put garlic powder in with the grounds and made garlic coffee. its interesting. it tastes like garlic. and#coffee. but actually the garlic is mostly an aftertaste?#so it feels very similar to drinking a cup of black coffee to accompany your garlic bread actually. the first time i made it i think it#underextracted the coffee tho. second time i extracted the coffee enough but i didnt like it as much? both times. fascinatingly#i did not get strong aromas! which was weird: i find both garlic and coffee have pretty strong scents already#i wouldve thought combining them would make it stronger? it was a little stronger while brewing the second time but smelled good to me#i find the flavor of it compelling enough that id like to try to refine it a bit more and see if i can make it good#ive come a long way since my first garlic coffee haha#(adding garlic salt to black coffee out of a keurig. dont reccomend this: garlic salt has too much salt and it overpowers everything.#could not get a garlic flavor without overpowering salt flavors. so it mostly tasted like seawater with a hint of coffee. garlic powder is#the way to go. anyway next i want to try it with a lighter roast. i was using medium roast#of a local brand that i would name for exposure but wont name lest it doxxes me haha#also want to try egg coffee sometimes? the vietnamese one. looks..intriguing. robusta beans scare me a little tho#anyway. if youre interested in interesting flavors i recc garlic coffee. it was intriguing. if i find a methodology i think tastes best#ill update yall#im also interested in other things. i want to experiment with spicy coffee. chili powder or cayenne#make the paprika dracula coffee haha#im also admittedly intrigued by butter coffee? as a flavor profile tho not for fad diet reasons.

-. people actually do attempt to depict shinichi kudo as this cool, sexy, mysterious guy, strong, tall, hot-- he's a 17yrold failguy, a bitchboi twink, people let him get away with his attitude because he smiles pretty and is useful to Crime Solving which he only is because it's his ✨ special interest ✨, mr kudo pulled a karate queen who can cook, clean, and dodge bullets simply via autistic swagger, he's a nerd who beats up criminals by kicking a ball into their faces
#;ooc#;tbd#in other news i bought volume 10 this morning and HEIJI IS IN THIS ONE#for context: they're reprinting it in italy and adding it to two newspapers and my local tabacchino actually has it#most likely because one of the papers is La Gazzetta dello Sport and yknow italians and football and all that#SO I'M BUYING IT~ i've never bought something ongoing volume by volume it's my first time~#YKNOW WHILE IT WAS BEING PRINTED and in a local shop nonetheless#IT'S EXPENSIVE A LOT OF USELESS MONEY as a kid we never even did panini football cards yknow#so this is exciting >:3#ANYWAYS i'm oversharing i'll be a wee bit busy today#between this tag and the last a spider just softly descended onto my laptop and is now idly walking away IT'S SO PRETTY#it's so TINY~ so YEAH that aside i'll try to be on at some point >:3#shinichi's parents are fking insane btw i completely forgot about that whole case where it's just THEM like????#the kudos are some completely other brand of neurodiverse like damn

Got my souvenirs
Freeze dried skittles and handmade watercolors made by the owners of the art shop i got them at
They grind their own pigments and everything
Their business card is a 6inch ruler
#we dont have any good specialty art shops in Lawrence#we have a couple of places downtown that are kinda similar but they pretty much only have name brand stuff#nothing made locally#if it wasnt so expensive to start a business in Lawrence i might have a niche for handmade paints there#im trying to figure out what oil they used in their base to make it antimicrobial#cuz it smells really good lol#like my paints smell very strongly of cinnamon#im assuming clove oil since thats most common.....but idk if i can identify clove by smell#smells christmas-y tho#if i was more outgoing i mightve asked the owner some questions about it#my mom tried to talk me into getting the watercolor kit that had some little pieces of watercolor paper and a pencil and a brush#and i was like ''i have all that tho'' and she was like ''but then you could use them now.''#''.....yea. i have all that WITH me.'' like. im not gonna travel without my favorite art supplies lol#i gave up suitcase space for my giant watercolor sketchbook just in case i wanted to paint#i have MOSTLY travel watercolor sets and brought all of them with me in my pencil bag#i specifically filled up all my watercolor brushes with water the night before we left and made sure i had my favorite mechanical pencil#(which btw if you have executive dysfunction and like to paint with watercolors i highly recommend the watercolor brushes you fill#with water. i paint way more than i used to cuz i dont have to fill a cup with water any time i wanna paint)#i have my regular sketchbook#i even brought my sudoku book and a couple pens in case i felt like playing sudoku#i dont travel without my bag of activities. i may not always do the activities i bring but i like to have options#at least its better than when i was a kid cuz i tried to bring activities AND like 5 stuffed animals#my suitcase was usually half stuffed animals#i also usually had a few shoved into my pillowcase with my blanky

My boss: you work as an usher and have to clean disgusting theaters multiple times a day and deal with people
Me: okay, will I get paid well?
Boss: no, you'll be paid below the livable wage and have the lowest paycheck out of all the positions you can have here
Me: will I ever get a raise?
Boss: no
Me: do I at least get both a 30 and a 15 minute breaks during my shifts since they're all over 8 hours?
Boss: no, you'll always have a 30 but if we're busy we'll need you to not take a fifteen
Boss: also on weekends you'll have to stay an hour longer than normal
Me: am I guaranteed to always get my fifteen on those days?
Boss: no
Me: is there any way to get paid more?
Boss: yes, training to work in a different position so you can work in 2 positions at once, but only managers can decide if you can get double trained
Me: okay.... At least I only work part time so hopefully I won't get too tired when summer comes
Boss: this summer we're having early very cheap movies so we need you to come in an hour early for every shift
Me: will I get paid any more for this at least?
Boss: no
And like- I feel ripped off-
#rambles#busy days with large crowds cause me to have a panick attack and cry by the end of my shift whenever that happens#and now they're having me come in early and consistently deal with a huge crowd#and i get paid barely anything#i get we're technically a 'locally owned' theater#but we're also the only theater within a mile radius#and we get the same amount of customers as the name brand theater i used to work at#like#literally concessions get's paid well over $25 bucks an hour#and they only have like 5 people trained in concessions and won't let anyone else in#there's like 20 ushers and we're all paid under $10 an hour and treated like shit daily#like 7 out of 9 shifts i get covered in trash juice from being the one to deal with the trash#I'm getting mistreated by customers#I'm having anxiety attacks#I'm cleaning 9 giant theaters multiple times a day#I'm moving boxes#I'm helping everyone else at their NON-USHER stations#because they schedule a lot of ushers#so when theaters aren't letting out to make sure there's not a giant group around the stand#they'll send us off to do other people's jobs but it won't be considered as us doing that job so we aren't paid for being “#'double trained' even though we all lnow how to part food and how to deal with cups and run the cash register and stuff#because of how often our coworkers walk away from their stations#us ushers are paid the least#but like#we're the most important ones there methinks (since we clean everything and help with everything else as well)#why are the people who microwave food paid more than the people who clean 9 theaters over 12 times a day????

Random thoughts: Can't wait until I move again next year back to the valley. Super excited for all our local festivals and celebrations!! Sadly they dont happen where I am now, no one even has heard of them.
Big L to these folks they don't know the freedom of trading skills and the fresh sea and local wildlife. Or celebrating just to celebrate. Where are the get togethers? Where are the potlucks? The community? The rules of politeness and friendliness are different here and it's strange how friendly from the valley is seen as overextending yourself here.
Also I can't wait to see the mechanical riding bull at the various ocean creature festivals we do! Also no one does any cèilidh here? It is strange and interesting and folks around this city (very far fromthe valley) are different? But I am acclimating, although I still am looking forward to going back too
#syncrovoid.txt#rambling#we have festivals every other weekend in the valley! some big and some are town specific#cèilidh are like social get togethers. like casual parties really? its a local word!#some folks will sing or bring instruments to them too#also there is SO many less artists around here? where are the hand sculptures? the many painters? the small art galleries all around town?#the houses are so sad here too. none are blue or yellow or orange or green. theyre all the same few bland colours#where is the fun? where is the pizzazz? where is the sparks of personality?#home sick#the houses are so crowded too? no one has space. and everything here is branded. there's no generational stores? few family run businesses?#there is public transportation though! that is limited to one bus in the valley where the towns can be an hour or two a part#it is odd though. starting to miss home i think. i do miss the acceptance of artists a lot. in the valley it is celebrated!#nearly everyone has some arts they are good at or enjoy#and personal time (time away from work) is just a given#there is like no connection to the land or history here either?#ghough the valley is a hodgepodge of things at least we still have some local slang and words and whatnot#anywho! it is what it is#its weird to feel homesickness when ive moved like 10 times before? only other place i feel like this towards is my forest#i spent nearly all my time there when we lived there. last day before we moved they started beinging in the machines to tear it down#climbed high in a tree on the farthest edges and wayched as they began bulldozing it down and tearing it up#aucks to know all the wonders and life has been paved over and destroyed#but i cant go back to that home (the forest) because it no longer exists. the valley still exists though so!! that is great!!#anyways i am rambling haha

commenting “I’ll wait for the dupe” when a small business advertises a product on social media is so icky. like it’s obviously not something you absolutely NEED so why not instead save up for the original????
#this is also not an argument to guilt people who buy fast fashion/from corporations etc#sometimes that IS necessary#for example I can only afford groceries now at Walmart I can’t shop local anymore. necessary#I had to buy business attire when I got my last job so I bought 3 pairs of dress pants and 3 blouses from a fast fashion website. necessary#but a brand new unique original product from a small creator is typically not something you need#and it’s actually sad when they get duped :(#maybe pay $80 for a handmade crochet top isn’t worth it to you in the long run and that’s fine#you don’t have to buy things from small businesses at all#but I don’t think we should be promoting large companies stealing from small creators
