In honor of International Women's Day, I want to honor one of the most influential writers from my childhood who I think is worthy of FAR more readership and recognition: @tamora.pierce. This woman's work was so powerful and inspirational to me in my formative years that I dedicated the center of my back piece to her character, Alanna of Trebond, from the Song of the Lioness series. And, as I came to learn first-hand last week, this woman and her writings continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for many. I liken the quality and impact of her work with powerhouse authors like Ursula K. LeGuin - another great author to check out, if you haven't! Anyway, I finally had the fine fortune to MEET her last week and it was one of the happiest days in my living memory. "My salute to your body art" reads the inscription she wrote in my copy of her latest book #tempestsandslaughter. 😭😊 Highly recommend this woman, her books, and her ideas!! She's very active on social media - Tumblr, insta, and Facebook, etc- and often has insightful and impactful things to say - about writing, and cats, and the world as she sees it.
