So you know my mum is desperate to get our house back in working order because today she actually let me pick up a paintbrush 😮 although I was given strict instructions not to have a seizure or any spasms whilst painting 😂! There were a few minor twitches but it all went over me and not the floor, so we’re all good 😂 Up til now my mum has insisted she doesn’t think my spasmy, seizurey ass was safe with a paintbrush 😂 so I was both impressed and worried when she relented to my nagging to help paint. We’ve got a lot going on during a normal week; all this upheaval is really stressful and really hard to deal with. I must say I’m very proud of my painting; even though my trail run was only literally the inside of the cupboard 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 tomorrow I’m being promoted I’m told! I’m absolutely knackered; I literally have not stopped all day. 🦖 Today marks the end of my first week at my new job. 🦕 I’ve been keeping this one a bit quiet until my contract went through, but I couldn’t be more delighted and humbled to be accepted as a part of the sculptural fabrication team at Creature Technology Company in Melbourne. These guys are the greats behind the Walking With Dinosaurs arena show, the HTTYD arena show, and many other spectacular projects. It’s very different to anything I’ve done before, but I’m really looking forward to the challenge. In honor of International Women's Day, I want to honor one of the most influential writers from my childhood who I think is worthy of FAR more readership and recognition: @tamora.pierce. This woman's work was so powerful and inspirational to me in my formative years that I dedicated the center of my back piece to her character, Alanna of Trebond, from the Song of the Lioness series. And, as I came to learn first-hand last week, this woman and her writings continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for many. I liken the quality and impact of her work with powerhouse authors like Ursula K. LeGuin - another great author to check out, if you haven't! Anyway, I finally had the fine fortune to MEET her last week and it was one of the happiest days in my living memory. "My salute to your body art" reads the inscription she wrote in my copy of her latest book #tempestsandslaughter. 😭😊 Highly recommend this woman, her books, and her ideas!! She's very active on social media - Tumblr, insta, and Facebook, etc- and often has insightful and impactful things to say - about writing, and cats, and the world as she sees it.
