Lo'ak x Fem!Reader (Platonic)
Tumblr media
➴ Summary: Eywa finally hears Lo’ak’s pleas for her to bring his brother back but instead of a brother, Lo’ak receives howling winds with lashing rain and a warrior… who eats people?
➴ Warning:  brief mention of character description  e.g. height, age and features but it doesn’t impact the story, I will be bringing up height again I think but it’s not an important plot point
➴ Word count: 5.7k
➴ Note: Hiii, sorry this has taken so long to come out. I had been writing and rewriting this for I don’t know how long alongside work, moving house and being ill. Sorry for the wait. I’m not too sure if I even like this but this is the longest I’ve written so far.
This is how I imagine Ao’nung to look >>> I love it
I mentioned in the previous part that Lo’ak commented that y/n is taller up close. I imagine Lo’ak being about 8’2 and y/n being 8’5 (I made heights for everyone, minus the adults).
I got a message about how I personally imagine y/n, I didn’t start writing this with a final look for her in mind, so I created a pinterest to get ideas >>> if you wanna take a look
Feel free to comment or message me if you have any suggestions.

Eight days. It has been eight days since y/n landed on Awa’atlu. Eight days with no updates from her father. She had been watching the skies for anything but just like the rest of Awa’atlu, the sky was calm. But to y/n it was unsettling.
She was becoming restless with the routine she had slipped into. Wake up, eat breakfast with Lo’ak, worry about her people, avoid Ronal and mend the breastplate. The latter seems to be the hardest because the Metkayina doesn’t have access to the same materials as those on the island. In all honesty, y/n did not need a saddle to return to her home, it was mainly for comfort. But when she thought of leaving, the burn in her chest told her to stay.
She had been thinking nonstop about what could’ve happened or what could be happening. Had her father found the two avatars and dealt with them? Had there been more casualties? If something extreme had happened, surely someone would fly out to find her? It wouldn’t be hard to track her down, considering Rìkxi had taken it upon himself to claim a corner of the island as his own.
“Let’s do something today,” y/n suggested as Lo’ak walked into her marui with a bowl of fruit in his arms.
Lo’ak paused, sitting down, crossing his legs and putting the bowl next to him.
“Are you asking me on a date?” He smirked
“Don’t be ridiculous.”
“Ridiculous? Am I not your type?”
“I hate to say it, but you’re not. You’re a bit too young and you’re not tall enough.”
“My poor heart,” Lo’ak said dramatically, placing a hand on his chest. “I thought we had something special.”
Y/n rolled her eyes at his antics while she sat down opposite him, taking a large melon out of the basket and began cutting it into chunks.
“What should we do?” he chuckled, his hand waving over the basket before picking up a Yovo.
“What do you usually do?” Y/n questioned.
“Hmm well, I was thinking about going for a swim. You can come with. Do you know how?”
“I swim,” y/n replied.
“But are you any good?”
“I won’t drown.”
“Good enough for me,” Lo’ak took a bite of the Yovo fruit and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. “Well, I’m sure Kiri will swim with us. I can see if Ao’nung and Rotxo would be interested. Tsireya, maybe not, she has plans with some of her… Friends.”
“Friends?” Y/n picked up on how Lo’ak said the word with such disdain. “You don’t like these friends?”
“For the most part, they’re okay but there is one. His name’s K’aung, and he fishes with Ao’nung sometimes. He’s the worst. He used to bully Kiri a lot and now he follows Tsireya around, you’d think she has a second shadow. And I’m sure he watches my every move.”
“Maybe he’s in love with you? You and Tsireya aren’t together, he may think he has a chance.”
Lo’ak’s face screwed up in absolute disgust at the idea.
“How could you say something so disgusting? He makes me feel ill.”
Tumblr media
Just as Lo’ak planned during breakfast, the pair went swimming with Kiri, Ao’nung and Rotxo at midday. Kiri informed the group that Tuk wouldn't be joining them. They ran into Tsireya on their way to the ilu but as predicted, she was standing with other Metkayina teens, one boy staring Lo’ak down, y/n doing the same to him.
The ride away from the village went somewhat well. Ao’nung had been taking subtle jabs at y/n which did not go unnoticed by the girl, which led to her riding with him instead of Lo’ak which was the original plan.
“Y/n. Do you know how to swim?”
“I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t.”
That seemed to be enough for Ao’nung because, in a split second, he spun around and pushed y/n off of his ilu with a smug smile on his face, which didn’t last long as y/n hand grabbed his bicep, dragging him down with her.
As the two resurfaced, y/n hit Ao’nung’s forehead muttering ‘skxawng’ under her breath before swimming to the closest rock formation with Lo’ak, Kiri and Rotxo following close behind her. Ao’nung rolled his eyes before joining the others. The group settled on the rock in a circle, y/n sat between Rotxo and Lo’ak, opposite Ao’nung.
“So, y/n, tell us about yourself. You have four fingers like these two.” Rotxo motioned to the Sully siblings, “Are your parents or were your parents, sky people too?”
“Sky people? No, a lot of my people have four fingers.”
“How?” Kiri questioned, eyes full of wonder.
“I’m not sure. My grandmother told me that this trait started to appear when she was a child, some think it was before that.” Y/n looked down at her hands and shrugged, “some think it is a punishment from Eywa, while some think it's a gift.”
“What do you think?” Lo’ak questioned, his voice sounding tense
“I haven't really thought about it, my uncle and younger brother are the same so it’s what I am used to.”
“Do you know why?” Ao’nung questioned, seemingly interested in the topic.
“Apparently, Sky people came to our shores in need of help. The old Olo'eyktans allowed them to stay on the smaller islands, in agreement that they wouldn’t interfere with the clans and in return, they were given food supplies and different resources to survive. But then, they started sneaking onto the large islands and into villages, stealing from us. When they were given a warning, they went against it and started using violence. It led to great battles, many islands were scorched, and the Olo'eyktans vowed there would be no survivors. But, there were sky people who didn’t participate in the battles. They lived amongst my people, helping build huts and weapons until they died. Their bodies burned and their ashes were buried beneath the spirit tree. A generation later, children were being born with four fingers and four toes.”
The group around y/n sat in silence taking in what they had heard. Out of all of them, Kiri seemed to be the most invested in the story. The idea of sky people existing on Pandora before her parents was fascinating.
“And… And do you believe that?” Kiri questioned in disbelief and amazement.
“I’m sure there's some truth to it,” y/n started looking at the group around her, shrugging. “You never know.”
There was a moment of silence before Ao’nung cleared his throat, his eyes shifting between y/n and Lo’ak.
“You two seem close, even though you’ve only known each other for what? A week? You eat together every morning, Lo’ak comes back with nothing but good things to say. Are you two,” he waved his hands between the two in front of him “a couple?” His tone was accusatory.
“It’s not hard to make friends, you know. You should try it.” Lo’ak shot back rolling his eyes, “and y/n isn’t my type. A bit too tall and a bit old for me.”
Y/n nudged Lo’ak slightly, smiling at the memory of the conversation they had that morning.
“How old are you?” Rotxo questioned innocently.
“Eighteen.”
“Perfect for you, Ao’nung.”
“Shut it.” Ao’nung snapped back, a grimace on his face.
“You don’t have a chance bro,” Lo’ak added
“I said, shut up.”
Kiri rolled her eyes at the boys’ antics while offering y/n a smile which was returned.
Tumblr media
The group finally settled down on the rocks, some lying down enjoying the peaceful atmosphere, until Lo’ak scrambled to his feet, hitting Kiri in the process.
“Hey! Watch it!” She screamed, swatting a hand at him but Lo’ak took no notice of it as he walked to the edge of the rock before diving over the edge. Y/n sat up as soon as the boy disappeared from her sight. No one seemed to be concerned. She walked to the edge of the rocks and looking down, she saw Lo’ak frantically moving his hands while perched on the edge of a tulkun fin. A tulkun, the only tulkun, she was familiar with.
Payakan.
Payakan’s large eye looked away from Lo’ak and up at y/n, making a sound that sounded similar to a greeting.
“You know each other?”
“Kind of. Payakan spent a lot of time on our shores but then he just left. Nice to see he’s being taken care of over here.”
Y/n eased herself into the water, swimming over to the tulkun and pulled herself up to sit next to Lo’ak.
“The last time I heard anything about him, my brother was telling me that sky people were hunting him.”
At this omission, Payakan dropped his fin slightly, causing y/n and Lo’ak to be dunked into the water briefly.
“Sorry! Sorry!” Y/n coughed, “but that’s what I heard.”
Payakan made a clicking noise and looked away.
“You know about that?” Lo’ak questioned raising an eyebrow.
“Of course, a watcher from my village relaid the information and my brother told me.”
“A watcher? What do they do?”
“Watch? It’s in the name. They survey the skies, above the clouds and report back what they see.”
“What more did they say? What more do you know?”
Y/n paused to think, what more did she know? Her mind darted back to her dream behind the waterfall. It had been a recurring dream, but the ending was still the same.
“Nothing really. A huge fire. Some things washed up on our shores.”
“Right.” Lo’ak nodded. He didn’t look like he was convinced by y/n’s answer but accepted it anyway. He then turned back to Payakan, moving his hands before pointing at y/n.
“What are you saying?”
“Asking if he saw you did anything embarrassing as a child that I could use against you sometime.”
“Oh stop it.” Y/n laughed, putting her hand on the back of Lo’ak’s head, the action making the younger boy freeze at the familiar gesture
“Can I ask you something?” He questioned suddenly, his eyes almost pleading. The older girl nodded, giving him her full attention. This is something he had been curious about, he had heard the other villagers talk about it, trying to come up with their own conclusions. “What made you come here? I know there was a storm and everything but was coming here planned?”
“No,” the older girl responded without any hesitation, “I can’t say being a guest on these islands was a part of my plan.”
“So, why did you leave your people?”
“My father ordered it. I wasn't going to say no, it is my duty I guess.”
“Your father is Olo’eyktan? My dad was… Once. He gave that up to move here. Sometimes I wish he didn’t. I wish we didn’t leave the forest.” Lo’ak’s ears drooped at the thought of his home, his grandmother, his friends… Spider. Payakan made a noise that caused Lo’ak to perk up slightly, “but of course, coming here has been great. I just miss home.”
“You know you can always go back,” y/n started, “you don’t have to be here for the rest of your life.”
Lo’ak paused at her words, he had thought this too. He could not see himself staying in the village forever, he is a forest Na’vi after all, but he had begun to build a life here, the whole family has. He couldn’t leave. His family was here, his whole family. Sully’s stick together and no one can be left behind.
“Wait, we’re off topic. Why did your father order you to leave your people?”
“I was sent to look for someone. Well, two someone’s actually. They had been under close watch for two years, my father instructed that no one was to interact with them, without his permission and with good reason. Before I came, they managed to escape, people were hurt. From what I gathered from my dad. They’re dangerous. They do not have good intentions. So they’re to be found and brought back and then maybe they can be dealt with like how my father intended without the input of others trying to ‘keep the peace’.”
No, it can’t be. Lo’ak face filled with panic and his breath hitched.
“Do you… Do you know their names?” he questioned, hands curling into fists in his lap
Miles Quaritch. Lyle Wainfleet.
“I can’t say I remember.” She lied looking past Lo’ak, hoping he did not detect any hesitation, “Payakan, my old friend. If it’s not too much to ask, will you be able to pass a message on to my brother that I’m okay?” She asked with a smile, Lo’ak’s eyes on her.
“Your brother?”
“He has a specific spot, his thinking rock, Payakan knows it. He’ll pass on the message to my parents.”
The tulkun made a noise of agreement, before slowly lowering his fin, easing the Na’vi into the water before bidding the two goodbyes and swimming off.
“Why did he listen to you? He’s my spirit brother.”
“I’ve known him longer.”
Lo’ak rolled his eyes and splashed water in the older girl's direction.

Tuk skipped through the forest ahead of her parents, her fingers brushing against loose vines hanging beside her. Today, she was going to tend to the ikran while Lo’ak and Kiri were away. This is something she enjoyed, the forest here wasn’t the same, it wasn’t as dense or filled with the same creatures but it was pretty, it reminded her of home.
Tuk’s skip turned into a jog as the greenery became more sparse and more light flooded in.
“Tuk. Slow down please.” Her mother called
“Yes, mum!” She replied, with no change in pace.
As she broke through the remaining trees, a grin appeared on her face at the familiar sight of her family’s ikran. The biggest reason why she enjoyed looking after them was that she wasn’t sure if she would ever be able to have one of her own, so looking after them was the closest she could get.
Hearing her parents appear behind her, she started to move forward, greeting all the ikran individually as she made a beeline to the back of the nesting area the ikran’s made for themselves, looking for the ikran without a rider. Getting closer, she noticed the nest was empty.
Tuk spun around, looking at all the ikran, thinking she overlooked her favourite. But she could never. So she counted again and again.
One. Two. Three. Four… Where’s five?
In a panic, she ran forward, running into her father who was tending to Bob.
“He’s gone!” She shrieked, grabbing her father’s hand, “Seze’s gone!”
Jake looked down at his youngest daughter in confusion, gone? What does she mean by ‘gone’? The ikran hasn’t ‘gone’ anywhere in two years without a lot of bribing. Jake looked past all the ikran to see that Seze was in fact ‘gone’. The urgency in Tuk’s voice caught Neytiri’s attention. She passed her mate and daughter to go to Seze's nest, bending down and placing her hand on it. Maybe there will be some heat that’ll indicate how long he had been gone. With some relief, there was. It was still quite warm which told her they had just missed the creature’s take-off.
Just as she stood up, ready to join her family and calm her daughter, a rumble resonated through the air. It was a similar sound the whole village had heard over a week ago, Tuk was the first to run towards the sound, shaking out of fathers grasp. Without hesitation, he chased after her. Neytiri looked over the other ikran one last time before following.
Making it to the beach, the family was met with a sight they could never imagine. Seze, Neteyam’s lonely ikran, named after Neytiri’s companion who she lost in the war with the sky people, face to face with Rìkxi. Barely any space between them. The latter watched the ikran with fury in its eyes. Seze did not look nervous in the slightest, seeming to be standing his ground against the beast that was more than double his size and much, much stronger than him.
Rìkxi made a sound that sounded like he was taking a massive inhale of breath, his head lifting slightly. His mouth began to open, a rumble omitting from his chest.
“Enough!” A strong, unwavering voice echoed through the gathering crowd
In a flash, the Ash Na’vi their son had become fast friends with, stood between the two creatures confidently, holding her hand up to Rìkxi’s face. Rìkxi gave what seemed to be a final look at the ikran before obeying his rider’s silent command.
Tumblr media
Y/n stood between her faithful companion and the unknown ikran, hands raised to show that there was no threat. The last thing she wanted was for Rìkxi to eat the poor creature. Rìkxi looked at the scene in front of him before lowering his head and shuffling back slightly. The ikran behind her nudged its head forward, knocking y/n’s back. The girl turned around to face the ikran, looking curiously as it nudged her again.
Not sure what to do, she looked off to the side where Lo’ak and Kiri had joined the group but kept a distance due to Rìkxi’s presence. Seeing that she wasn’t going to get any assistance, she tried shooing the creature away calmly but it didn’t budge. She looked at Rìkxi over her shoulder and jerked her head slightly up, telling him to return to his part of the island. With a huff, the large beast flapped his wings once, shooting off into the air, unsettling all the sand around them causing those closest to cover their eyes while y/n knew that this action was deliberate.
As Rìkxi left, an older Omatikaya man came forward, his hand holding a smaller child on his left and a woman on his right. Lo’ak and Kiri catching up behind them. The woman touched the ikran’s head, pulling its attention away from y/n, which the girl was very grateful for because was starting to feel uneasy.
The woman stroked the creature's face, before shooing it away. It made a small sound before taking off into the air. Neytiri turned, looking the girl up and down, her yellow eyes studying the girl before her for any signs of danger that could injure her family in any way. Lo’ak stood next to y/n, a smile on his face trying to ease any tension that he sensed.
“Y/n, this is my mother Neytiri and my father Jake Sully. Mum, Dad, this is my new best friend y/n.”
“Nice to meet you, y/n. Lo’ak speaks very highly of you.” Neytiri greeted the girl after a moment's pause.
Lo’ak face seemed to flush a deep blue as his father nodded, also greeting the girl.
“Yes, it’s nice to meet the girl that has been keeping my son out of trouble.” Jake joked, raising an eyebrow at his son, asking him a silent question. Lo’ak’s head shook frantically from side to side.
Y/n ignored the silent exchange and greeted both parents. Tuk looked up at the girl curiously before introducing herself.
“Hello! I’m Tuk! Your hair is really pretty.”
“It is lovely to meet you Tuk and yours is too!” Y/n smiled motioning to the white beads at the end of the young girl’s shoulder-length hair.
Looking over the youngest Sully’s head, y/n spotted Ronal in the distance. The Tsahik had spotted her and was making her way over, like a predator stalking her prey. Y/n flicked her wrist, her fingers brushing Lo’ak’s arm, the boy looked at her in confusion before following her line of sight.
“I should go and check on Rìkxi, make sure he hasn’t threatened anyone else.” She joked, itching to break away from the family as Ronal got closer.
“Right, yes. We don’t want that.” Lo’ak added stiffly.
The girl rolled her eyes, bidding farewell to the family as she walked off hastily towards where Rìkxi should’ve hopefully settled. Just as she disappeared from everyone’s sight, Ronal joined the family, a hand on her hip.
“She’s fast.” The Tsahik commented, “Lo’ak, I will be eating breakfast with her tomorrow morning.”
Before Lo’ak could think of a reply, she walked off to join her mate, Tsireya and their youngest daughter.
The Sully’s made their way back to the marui in mostly silence.
Jake and Neytiri walked in silence and they thought about what they had just witnessed. An ikran greeting another Na’vi it was not familiar with, willingly and refusing to leave?
The sight of the Ash Na’vi girl had taken Neytiri by surprise, there was an air of familiarity about her. Maybe it was the way that she walked, the way she spoke? She wasn’t sure, she couldn’t place it but whatever it was caused her heart to burn with longing. The girl reminded her of someone that was lost.
Jake had seen it almost immediately. Lo’ak had formed a close connection with the older girl, even if he hadn’t noticed it himself, Lo’ak looks up to her. Trusted her. There had been something missing in Lo’ak for a long time and y/n had come along and given him what he needed. Guidance, a support system. Seeing his son in this light had taken a weight off of his shoulders but then that brought on a new thought. Y/n wasn't going to stay here forever and what would that mean for Lo’ak?
Lo’ak head rushed with multiple thoughts at once, y/n’s brief explanation while with Payakan, although he knew that she was withholding some truth from him, he couldn’t find it within himself to feel suspicious of her. And also Neteyam’s ikran. Seze had kept to himself for two years, clearly mourning the loss of his rider but today showed something different. Was this linked to what Neteyam’s spirit meant?
Kiri on the other hand was silent because she was trying to figure this out, she felt as though Eywa was whispering in her ear. She has a feeling that y/n will be important to the family, it can’t just be a coincidence that y/n appeared on Awa’atlu just days after Lo’ak’s experience at the Spirit Tree and them suddenly becoming the best of friends, the pair also sharing similar physical attributes. Four fingers, four toes and although it is not as noticeable, Kiri could see the faint hairs on the older girl's brow bone. It seemed that y/n had stepped in to be an older sister to Lo’ak, taking him under her wing.
Tuk was the only member of the Sully family who was actively talking, some of the members chiming in every once in a while to let her know she was listening. She could sense that everyone was deep in thought but she was just glad that Seze was safe and that she met Lo’ak new friend.
Overall, the whole family had taken notice of Lo’ak’s attitude change. In the week of knowing y/n, parts of his carefree personality had begun to shine through again and it was refreshing to see.
Kiri stopped in her tracks, clearing her throat to get her family’s attention.
"I just remembered I have to do something, I'll be back soon."
Before anyone could respond, Kiri turned and started to walk in the direction they just came from, as soon as she got to the beach, her walk turned into a jog and that jog into a run.
Tumblr media
On her walk over to Rìkxi, y/n was deep in thought. Jake Sully. The man Quaritch had asked … demanded … her father to help him capture so that he could “answer for his crimes.” y/n felt so stupid, why didn’t she put it together sooner “he is hiding amongst the reef people''. Lo'ak had mentioned briefly that his dad was from the stars. Maybe she did know that Jake Sully was here but was choosing to ignore it since she hadn't seen the man in person until today. Out of sight, out of mind maybe?
Suddenly, a shooting pain hit y/n in her chest which caused her to stagger back, almost losing her balance. She quickly composed herself, trying to ignore it so that she could continue her journey but with every step, it became harder to ignore.
Y/n quickened her pace, hoping to reach her destination soon but that plan was thrown to the back of her mind as she stopped abruptly, now feeling lightheaded. She squeezed her eyes closed tightly, clutching her chest while taking a deep breath. Opening her eyes slightly, she could see a few stray villagers staring at her as they passed, keeping a distance but she didn’t expect anyone to help.
The pain was getting more intense, her vision blurring and the sound of her heart pulsating in her ears. She tried walking again but she could tell that she was staggering off to the side. Taking another deep breath, took a deep breath and clenched her jaw and began walking again. After a few more steps, her knees buckled, bringing her down into a squat, her chin tucked to her chest as tears began welling in her eyes. The burning was now unbearable. She felt like she was choking, drowning almost. She was struggling to breathe, it was like her lungs weren’t working. Every breath she tried to take was painful.
She wheezed, rocking forward, her knees hitting the warm sand, the hand not holding her chest reaching out so she didn't faceplant. It was too much. She couldn’t even think. Y/n eyes screwed shut again, her mouth opening to scream for help but no sound other than a whimper came out. Her fingers and toes started to feel cold.
The villagers around her decided to take full notice of the scene before them, but they hesitated with the idea of helping the foreign girl. At the same moment, Kiri came speeding into view. Her eyes widened at the sight of her new friend on the floor and worried villagers gathering, not sure how to react.
“Y/n!” Kiri dashed forward, skidding to a stop next to her friend, “What’s wrong?! What happened?!”
Y/n tried to reply to Kirk’s frantic questions but all she could do was shake her head, she couldn’t bring herself to speak. She could barely hear the girl beside her.Her head was pounding. She was seeing flashes of the ocean being lit up by the bioluminescent plants, beside her, an Omatikaya Na'vi breaking the surface of the water with a grin on his face. Lo'ak? No, not Lo'ak. What the hell is happening?
Kiri looked around at the spectators, feeling annoyed that not one of them stepped forward to help her friend. Giving them the fiercest glare she could muster, Kiri tried getting down to y/n’s height, and lowering herself so that she could see her face. Kiri took note of the hand painfully gripping her chest. Had she been in pain all day and no one noticed?
“Clear the way!” Ronal’s voice boomed as she and Tonowari marched toward the small group.
Kiri scrambled out of the way as Ronal dropped down beside her, pulling y/n’s hand away from her chest.
“Get her up, I will treat her.”
Tonowari nodded at his mate, scooping y/n into his arms, the girl in question trying to resist but ultimately giving up once pain shot from her chest down to her feet. Kiri followed trying to speak to the now quiet girl. Tonowari apologised with almost every step he took and Ronal ahead, trying to conclude how she was going to ease this pain. Y/n head slightly rolled to the side as she looked out to the ocean, Kiri noticing her eyes focusing in the direction of the Cove of the Ancestors.
Tumblr media
As the sun was beginning to set, an avatar hopped across the beanstalk, hoping to make it to the other side without falling to his death. The sights of Pandora were absolutely breathtaking, he was used to seeing them but now, in his new body, everything seemed more amazing. The sights, the sounds, the smells. All the spectacular.
“Kid, you need to come back, you’ll miss dinner.” The earpiece crackled
The avatar rolled his eyes, looking around him, placing his finger on the microphone around his throat.
“Yes Dad, on my way.” He replied in a mocking tone, “I’ll be like 10 minutes, tops.”
“You better, or I’ll have to send someone out for you. Again.”
The avatar continued on his jog before he started to scale the many intertwined vines. This would be so much easier with an ikran, he thought but it was still early days. Reaching the top, he leaped across more branches before running through the camp, doing his best to weave between the different humans and Na’vi moving around.
“Seriously again? Watch it!”
“Sorry, Vic!” He called back, almost running into someone else.
The avatar swung the door open to the laboratory and ducked his head to get through the door, and skidded to a stop.
“Right on time.” Norm stated, looking up from his desk at the young avatar, “Go unlink, I’ll plate you some food.”
The boy walked into an empty room and lay down on a large cot. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Norm’s avatar ‘asleep’, hooked up to a machine to keep it hydrated and nourished. The boy shuffled his body, getting comfortable and closing his eyes.
The lid of the link unit opened slowly, the young boy sat up and swung his legs over the edge, stretching his arms.
“Victoria said you ran into her… Again. It’s starting to seem like it’s on purpose.” An older man spoke, eyes not looking away from the screen in front of him.
“It’s not, I swear. I’m having trouble stopping and she always seemed to be there.”
“You need to be more careful Spider. I know you're learning but you need to be mindful about those around you.”
“I know Max, I know. I’ll do better next time, I promise.” Spider replied somewhat sincerely. He was trying to be careful but he also did run into Victoria on purpose.
Max nodded looking back at the screen to check if there were any outliers on Spider’s readings. Seeing that everything was normal enough, he ushered the boy off of the link bed and into the communal eating area where a few of the humans were sitting around talking. The boy spotted Norm at the far end, speaking to another scientist.
Sitting down next to him, he began to eat silently, running through the forest all day has built a big appetite that he still wasn’t used to.
“So, how was it today?” Norm questioned as the other scientist left the table.
“Amazing!” Spider swallowed quickly, turning to face the older man, “I managed to run without smashing my face into the floor.”
“Good. That’s good. You’re getting better. But it’s still early days, don’t push yourself.”
“I know, I know. I’m being as careful as possible.”
“So, when are you gonna tell Kiri and Lo’ak about your avatar?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t found the right time.”
“You spoke with Kiri yesterday, right? Why didn’t you tell her then?” Norm questioned, raising the fork to his mouth.
“It didn’t feel right,” Spider shrugged, “she was talking about a new friend Lo’ak had made, I didn’t want to interrupt.”
“Lo’ak made a friend? Good for him, he had been quite down when I last spoke to Jake.” Max added as he sat down in front of Norm, “Jake had been really worried for him, breaking up with Tsireya hit him hard.”
Spider’s head dropped, he didn’t know that Lo’ak wasn’t dating the Metkayina girl anymore. If he was being honest, he didn’t have any idea about how Lo’ak had been doing for about eight months now. The pair hadn’t spoken to one another and Kiri didn’t purposely bring him up in conversation. It made Spider feel guilty, he could tell there was a strain on their relationship but he was too afraid to face it, he was too guilty. Even speaking to Kiri hurt him, he couldn’t even bring himself to speak to Jake, for fear that he would spill his guts out to the man and the consequences.
It was killing him. He wouldn’t dare tell Norm or Max, they would tell the Sully’s in an instant and he is sure that Neytiri would have his head. Not that Spider could blame her. He wasn’t thinking about the consequences at the time but as the days passed on the island, the guilt was eating him alive and the fear was keeping him silent.
“What do you think, Spider?” Norm questioned, nudging the boy out of his thoughts.
“What?”
“I said, we should try and arrange for you to visit Awa’atlu. You haven’t seen them in person in ages and it’ll be better this time because you have an avatar.” Max explained, a gentle smile resting on his lips, “and honestly, I could use the quiet.” He joked
Spider forced out a chuckle, shovelling a forkful of food into his mouth, running through all the possible outcomes that could happen, being face-to-face with the family he betrayed.

As the sun set and eclipse made itself known, a small group of Txampaysye swam passed through the Cove of the Ancestors and along the base of The Spirit Tree. One broke away from its group and glided off to the left, joining a shimming group of Atokirina’ that was floating peacefully above a glowing mass amongst the swaying plants on the seafloor.
Slowly, the plants separated, allowing the Txampaysye to lower itself down, resting itself across the widest part of the unknown figure. A moment later, air bubbles began to float upwards. The Atokirina’ floated down and landed on a small part of the figure, and as soon as it did that, the unknown shape flinched before curling into a ball. Slowly, the plants on the seafloor made their way back to each other, hiding the mass from any creature that may swim passed.

Txampaysye - gill mantle, serves as a biological diving suit, feeding oxygen to a bonded Na'vi through their kuru connection/tsaheylu.
Atokirina' - woodsprite, a seed of the Tree of Souls that lives on Pandora (I imagine the Spirit Tree has its own version).

I Love You, I Trust You, I See You
When people thought of the Sully family many thought of your siblings. They thought of Lo’ak who was always a troublemaker, causing chaos everywhere he went. They thought of Kiri who seemed so in tune with her surroundings that she might as well be Eywa herself. They thought of Tuk who was the youngest, still enamored by everyday life. They thought of Neteyam, a strong leader who would someday take on the role of Olo’eyktan after your father.
They never thought of you.
You who always seemed to be in your own little world. You who never had any friends. You who never talked. You who always seemed so attentive to the world around you, yet had no desire to join it.
When you were born after your twin Neteyam, a spike of fear had run through everyone in the room when you began to cry, but no sound came out. They feared you may not be breathing right, you may need your airways cleared. They feared something was wrong, and that was true.
When your parents or siblings thought about your family, they thought about you. They thought about how funny you were, always cracking jokes when there was a chance. They thought about how kind you were, taking a moment to check on everyone daily. They thought about how different you were than most.
They thought about you. You who couldn’t hear.
You always seemed to be in your own world, and that drew many away from you, they didn’t want to be friends with someone who they didn’t think was paying attention to them, and to be fair you weren’t paying attention to people most of the time. You preferred to direct your attention to the world around you, always keeping an eye out as you couldn’t hear danger coming.
When you had been caught by Quaritch and his men you had panicked, more than everyone else at least. You didn’t know what was going on, you didn’t know what they were saying, your lip reading was not dependable, and definitely not in english.
When your siblings arms were bound you couldn’t keep yourself calm, now you had no way of communicating, they couldn’t translate for you. Tears streamed down your face, eyes closed as tight as possible to try to calm yourself by blocking out the outside world.
When you felt your captor’s grip on your release your eyes shot open, looking around at the damage around you, multiple avatars dead on the ground. Then you ran, you ran faster than ever before in the first direction you saw.
You ran and ran, eyes trained on everything around you, and when you ran into someone and they grabbed you again it was like a shock. You let out a scream, the first noise anyone had ever heard you make. A noise nobody was aware you could make.
You turned to dead weight in an attempt to get out of their grasp, panic coursing through you again as your eyes couldn’t come into focus. However, the person dropped to the ground with you, pulling your face towards them and holding it still as you tried to thrash. Then they blew air into your face, and you realized you were safe.
When you were younger you would throw temper tantrums, as children do, where you would close your eyes to refuse to listen to your parents. Not being able to see them meant no sign language, which meant no having to listen to them. However your father found one thing always worked, blowing air on your face. Your eyes would shoot open, highly offended with your mouth dropped open, before you would sign at him, “Your breath is gross.” in retaliation.
You had never been more relieved for your dad’s stupid way of getting you to listen. Your eyes finally came into focus and you calmed down seeing his face, but that calm quickly turned into crying, sobbing. You couldn’t help but let out all of the pent up emotion inside of you, but eventually you calmed down and were able to stand back up, staggering your way home with the rest of your family.
Some time later when your parents had been arguing in your family kelku you hadn’t been paying attention as your siblings were, all huddled against the wall. You had been lost in your own world once again, not wanting to know what was being said as you were still processing what had happened earlier. You didn’t need anything on top of that as you feared it would make your careful stack of emotions you had constructed come tumbling down.
They had come tumbling down though as your parents announced you were moving, leaving. Leaving everything you had ever known, your home, your grandmother, the forest you loved so much. You couldn’t help it as you cried again, being held by your mother this time.
However as you thought about it you weren’t that sad. You had always liked the water, everyone not having to hear underwater made you feel more included, more like you belonged, and you had heard the Metkayina used sign language. Maybe this would be a chance to make friends for the first time in your life. Maybe you would be able to talk to people for once, nobody at home taking the time to learn American Sign Language, as your father had called it, like your family had.
One thing you hadn't taken into account was that they used a different version of sign language, but that had become very apparent when you first jumped into the water with Tsireya, Ao’nung, and Rotxo. They used signs you had never seen before, ones you didn’t recognize. You couldn’t help but feel a little beaten down at dinner, staying quieter than usual, not signing as much.
Afterwards your dad had asked you to step outside, waving a hand towards you as he exited the marui.
He sat down on the pathway, and you knew he expected you to join him, so you did. You sat next to him with your feet dangling in the water, looking out towards the horizon, refusing to look at him so you didn't have to have a conversation.
That didn’t last long though as he poked you in the arm, causing you to look at him offended, mouth open and eyebrows raised. He took this as his chance to speak, “You okay, kid?” He signed.
You sighed deeply, fidgeting with your hands before signing, “I’m okay, dad.”
You could tell he didn’t believe you, lips pressed together in a thin line and eyebrows furrowed, “You’re less talkative. What’s wrong?” He signed, proving he didn’t think you were telling the truth.
A frown came to your face, feeling like it was permanently there after the past few days or so, but you continued, “I’m disappointed.”
He raised his eyebrows, surprise and confusion on his face, “About what?”
You looked away from his face, instead choosing to watch his hands, you didn’t want to see the pity on his face, “We don’t speak the same language. I can’t communicate. Everyone else can at least talk to each other.”
His face softened, but you didn’t see it, “It’ll be okay. You’re a fast learner, so you will learn their language quickly, then you can make friends. If anyone actually wants to be your friend.” He meant it playfully, and you saw him laugh, so jammed your elbow in his ribs.
Then the conversation was over, your mom poking her head out of the doorway and saying something to your dad. He just stood up and gave you a look like he was asking, “You good?” and you nodded, “Yes.” back in return.
After your father’s words of encouragement you decided to work harder, learn faster, determined to be able to communicate with the people around you, and a few weeks later you were excelling whereas your siblings were still struggling. They were caught up on the differences of Metkayina sign language versus ASL but you had grasped that there weren’t differences, or similarities, and you would just be learning from scratch.
Even though you were doing well at it, working your way towards being fluent, you were worried about talking to the people, mostly because of one person in particular, Ao’nung. It was as if Ao'nung was determined to ruin your siblings' lives, and yours, but you didn’t know that.
You had seen Ao’nung’s attempts to cause hell for your siblings, nagging at them, laughing at them, and even trying to start fights, with Lo’ak in particular. Him messing with your siblings made you frustrated, but you weren’t aware of the taunts meant to make you upset, and laughing that was meant to make you feel like a target coming towards you from a distance.
The bullying towards your siblings had become more and more frustrating and you had begun showing your anger at home, being rougher with things than usual, and not wanting to go outside of the shared family marui.
It had been peaceful while you and your mom had been working on dinner, but she noticed you seemed to be far off, handling the food with rougher hands, “Are you okay, (Y/n).” Neytiri signed as you placed another fish over the fire.
You rolled your eyes at her, upset she was even insinuating something was wrong. In reality there was, but you didn’t want to admit that, “Yes mama, I’m fine.”
“Are you sure?” She had asked back, concern on her face as she looked at you closely.
You signed, “Yes.” Trying to end the conversation, but you knew she would just keep pushing.
You saw your mom think for a moment, her face scrunching up in concentration, “Well I am not.”
You frowned more, once again feeling like it had always been there since you left the forest, “Not what?”
She was frowning too now, “I’m not sure you’re fine. I see you isolating yourself. Even from me and your father.” She grabbed your hands, squeezing them gently to show her love in a little way.
Tears welled in your eyes, frustrated tears, tears that came because with all the stress recently they were the only way your brain knew how to process, to cope.
You pulled your hands from hers to wipe at them, “I’m sorry.” was all you could say.
She wiped the tears falling down your face before saying, “Why?”
You sniffled, running your hands down your face before signing, “I see Lo’ak, Kiri, and Neteyam being picked on, and there is nothing I can do. I can’t stand up to the bullies. I can’t say anything.”
“Okay, well soon you will be able to say something. You are learning their sign language, yes? I’ve heard from your siblings you are out working them.” She smiled at you and you could really see how proud of you she was.
You couldn’t help but crack a little smile although tears still threatened to fall, “Yes, mama. I’m getting better, but I’m worried it will be too late though.”
“I’m sure you will do your best, my ‘ite.” She thought for a second, “Why don’t you go try to talk to these kids tomorrow?”
You sighed, you didn’t want to, but you knew your mom would nag you until you agreed, “Okay. Love you.”
She smiled lovingly at you, “Love you too.” before pulling you into a hug.
When tomorrow came you didn’t even want to leave your marui, but you found the strength to do so. You did some of the breathing exercises Tsireya had taught you to try to calm your nerves, and they worked for the most part, steadying you and clearing your head.
However as soon as you stepped outside your marui you regretted it, not wanting to do what you had promised to your mother, but you knew you had to eventually. Eventually, which meant you could fool around as long as you wanted beforehand, and so you decided to settle down for a quick nap on the beach.
When you laid down and closed your eyes you quickly and easily fell asleep. You were still tired from last night when you struggled to sleep from your anxious thoughts.
When the Sullys moved to Awa’atlu Ao’nung thought they were weird, knew they were weird. He took a particular hatred towards the older Sully kids, Neteyam was the perfect little follower, Lo’ak was constantly in trouble, Kiri was always off in her own world, and you. Just you. You seemed to always ignore him and never talk, but what he didn’t know was that it's because you couldn’t hear him.
Ao’nung tried to not let anything get to him, especially when it came to people he didn’t like, like the Sullys, but for some reason you, (Y/n) Sully, had peeved him more than anyone or anything else. He had grown tired of you ignoring him when he shouted or laughed at you, like you didn’t even notice he was there, tired of you flat out avoiding him sometimes as you scurried away when he tried to approach you.
Of course he knew why, he had the same intentions to bully you and make you feel unwanted in Awa’atlu as your siblings. Of course you didn’t want this so you spent most of your time avoiding him, but for some reason instead of him not caring about it, it made him want to get under your skin even more.
When the sun rose today he decided today was the day to act. Today he would confront you head on, face to face. He would make you notice him, and he would make you feel awful in the process. So he gathered his friends, his goons, and they set off to find you.
They first checked with Tsireya who was with the rest of your siblings, but you were nowhere to be found, they all insisted they hadn’t seen you. Then they combed the beach, going from one end to the other, and on the far end they found you peacefully asleep on the soft sand.
He couldn’t help but notice how cute you looked asleep and peaceful, but he quickly shook it off, shouting at you, “Wake up, freak!”
He was targeting your extra finger and the hair above your eyebrows, like he had your siblings because he knew that got to them, and hoped it would do the same to you.
When you didn’t stir he tried shouting again, assuming you were awake, but trying to act asleep to avoid him, “What is wrong with you? Do you not care or are you stupid avoiding me?”
His friends laughed at you when you still didn’t move, eyes not cracking open and your breathing staying the same, so he took the next step, trying something physical. He kicked sand up and over you and finally you stirred, sitting straight up and looking around for the source of the sand, and when you saw him your heart dropped, a lump forming in your throat.
“There we go, now you are paying attention.” He snickered.
You tried to read his lips, but he spoke too fast, and you just stayed silent. You cocked your head to the side, eyebrows drawn together in a look of confusion.
You hesitated for a second, but were about to sign something when he spoke again. “Do you not speak? A silent freak, interesting.” You still didn’t understand exactly what he was saying, but his friends all laughed at you, and although you couldn’t hear it it made you feel small.
“I’m sorry. I can not hear you.” You signed, using Metkayina sign language this time.
He scoffed, “I do not believe that. I think you just don’t want us to bother you, but here we are.” He laughed in your face.
“Please use your hands.” You tried to communicate, but they just wouldn’t listen to you.
“No.” He sneered, this you understood, one single word.
Your mouth dropped open, offense written all over it. You knew he was disrespectful, didn’t care about others feelings, but you would make him care, “I can not hear. I am deaf.”
He was about to retort against you again, but when he had been searching for you earlier that day Neteyam knew he meant trouble, so when he found you he stayed in the shadows, watching, but now Ao’nung had taken it too far.
He surged forwards, anger consuming him, “Step off bro. She can’t hear you.”
“Yeah that is what she just said.” He rolled his eyes, “I do not care though, it is better if she can not hear me. Means I can make fun of her without her knowing.” He signed the last part so you could understand.
You shrunk back, standing to hide behind Neteyam. You tugged on his arm, “It’s okay.” You signed.
“It’s not okay, (Y/n).” He rubbed a hand down his face, turning to Ao’nung, “You need to leave her alone.”
“Whatever.” Ao’nung scoffed before turning and walking away.
Now he knew why you seemed to ignore him, you just didn’t know he was talking to you. You were probably avoiding him because you didn’t know their sign language yet. He felt bad for some reason. He usually wouldn’t feel bad about his bullying but with you it felt different now knowing this.
He couldn’t show his feelings though, worried about his little group making fun of him, but he slowly started to back off of you, and your siblings some as well. Whenever one of his “friends” would ask why, he would reply something like “We can not make fun of a cripple.” and roll his eyes, still a jab at you, but less so.
At some point you became all that consumed his thoughts, on his mind at all times, and whenever he would see you with his sister, or your siblings, he would feel the need to insert himself into the conversation, but he always refrained. He wanted to talk to you, to apologize, but he feared judgment from his “friends” who are just as nasty as he was.
Eventually he couldn’t hold it in anymore, heading to your marui to ask to talk with you, in the way you would understand. When he knocked on the doorway of the family home Lo’ak was the first to notice him, glaring at him and nudging Neteyam in the side, directing his attention towards Ao’nung.
Neteyam stood before either of his parents even noticed the boy in the doorway, stalking over to him and dragging him down the pathway so they could talk, “What do you want?” He hissed out.
Ao’nung cleared his throat, but the words still came out small, nervous, “I came to apologize to (Y/n)...”
“No.” Was all Neteyam said before turning away and starting to walk back into the Sully family’s home.
Ao’nung grabbed his arm before he got too far away, “Please. Please let me talk to her.” He begged, something he didn’t like to do, but it was necessary.
Neteyam sighed, “Fine, but if you do anything I will chop your head off myself.” He threatened the boy, “I’ll go get her.”
It wasn’t long before you stepped out of the marui, a frown on your face and hands he could see shaking, “What do you want?” You signed, hands shaking with nerves.
“I came to say sorry.” He started off, “I’m sorry for bullying you, and your siblings. I promise I won’t do it any more.”
“And?” You asked, knowing there was more.
He looked nervous now, hands shaking as he signed, “I wanted to extend the offer of friendship.”
You looked shocked now, “You want to be friends with me?”
He nodded his head, smiling shyly, “Yes. Absolutely.”
You smiled this time, relieved he would be leaving your siblings alone, and excited to learn more about him, about what he was really like under the bad boy shell, “Okay, friend.”
He just nodded at you, “I have to go now. See you at lessons with Tsireya tomorrow?”
“Of course.” You responded.
When you entered the marui again everyone's eyes were on you, a light blush on your face, “I made a friend.” You smiled.
You could see your parents cheering and clapping for you, but your siblings' faces were unsure, you would have to reassure them later but for now you were all having a family night, playing games and handing out things you had made for each other with the new resources you were getting used to using. They were clunky and awkward, but you would get better, it reminded you of something, of someone.
As days passed into weeks you and Ao’nung had grown closer, him pretty much taking over your lessons, stealing you away from Tsireya who was sad to see you go, but happy for her brother for making a friend, a real friend, not one of his goons that tended to hover around him at all times. You had seemingly broken down his bad boy aesthetic and his goons had since left him, moving onto another leader to follow, still as nasty as ever.
You were grateful for him letting his walls down around you, allowing you to see him, and soon you did. You saw him as more than you ever had before. You couldn’t help but think about courting him, of trading little handmade gifts, and sharing little intimate moments of happiness throughout the day.
It seemed as if he wanted the same as he began bringing you gifts, starting as a little armband he made from you out of hard to find shells he had spent many hours trying to find, then it moved onto necklaces and bracelets. Each was more intricate than the last.
When this started you began to bring him things too, poorly made things because using dried seaweed and palm leaves were different from the materials of the jungle, but you managed. Even though they weren’t the best quality he proudly wore them, gladly accepting every gift you would give.
Everyone had noticed by now, the traded jewelry, the touches that lingered a little too long, and the longing looks when you weren’t together. What baffled people most however was not Ao’nung’s seemingly peaceful side coming out, but the fact that neither of you had officially come out and asked if you were courting.
You were courting, you both knew that, but Ao’nung wanted to put it into words, he wanted to make it official, but he felt the need to fix a couple things first, to get a couple blessings.
So he went to the person he thought would be easiest first, your mom. She had seen you two from afar and already had talked to you about it, encouraging you to pursue him and get what you wanted. She had said she was not Tsahík, but Eywa had shown her signs. So when Ao’nung asked she immediately gave him her blessing, knowing this was something not just he wanted, but something you wanted too.
Then he went to your dad. He was a fierce warrior who commanded respect, and Ao’nung tried his best to be respectful, carefully wording his proposal of courting his daughter. Of course Jake had been hesitant at first, but eventually he caved after Ao’nung had mentioned he already had Neytiri’s blessing.
Finally he went to Neteyam, your twin brother, your best friend since birth. Neteyam was adamantly against it, wanting nothing to do with Ao’nung, and wanting his sister to have nothing to do with him either. He was still on the edge of forgiving Ao’nung, swaying over a cliff where falling meant forgiving Ao’nung for his wrong doings, and when Ao’nung explained his love for you, his intentions to never hurt you and treat you with the respect you deserve Neteyam fell over the cliff, giving the Metkayina boy his blessing.
Once he had gotten their blessings he had invited you to the beach where he had first intentionally seeked you out. You were hesitant to go back there with him, but you gave in, trusting him wholeheartedly.
You love him. You trust him. You see him.
When you got there he pulled you to sit down with him, you both facing each other, and he signed, letting his heart out, letting his feelings show, “I am sorry for any times I have hurt you. I was an ass and a fool, and I wish I had never caused you upset or harm. I am sorry for bullying your siblings too, they did not deserve it, but I was scared by the new people and what they would bring. I now see I should have helped like my sister. I should have been making you feel at home here, not doing the opposite.”
“It’s okay. We’re past that.” You reassured him.
He nodded, continuing, “Now I see how special you are. I see how much you’ve changed me and my views on life. I am grateful for the person you have shaped me into. I am grateful I got the chance to make it up to you. I want to court you. Officially.”
You felt your heart swell, butterflies in your stomach, and you were sure it was showing on your face, “I would love that.”
You moved your hands carefully to cup his face, holding it there as you looked into his eyes, hoping he understood how grateful you were for him too, then you pulled him in, lips brushing against each other before they fully made contact. It was magical, unlike anything you had felt before, and you were happy it was him making you feel this way. So happy, so loved.
When you pulled apart he smiled widely at you, grabbing your hands and giving them a gentle but tight squeeze before using them to say, “I see you. I see you.”
You sign your thoughts from earlier, “I love you, I trust you, I see you.”
He doesn’t say anything else, just smiles, and pulls you back in for another kiss, and you feel at peace. You know he is yours, and you are his. You know he will never leave you, and you will never leave him. You know he loves you, and you love him. You know he sees you, and you see him.

Read Below Cut:
You stared at the remnants of last night’s dinner on the floor. You had vomited, again. This had been happening in the mornings, on and off for the last few weeks. You did not feel sick, so why were you sick?
Normally the vomit happened at home. Normally Neteyam had already left to tend to his duties. Normally you could clean it up and pretend like it never happened.
The heat of your embarrassment swarmed over your neck and shoulders, sweeping up into your cheeks and ears. You knelt, frozen in place over the bile you had just produced.
On Mo’at’s tent floor.
She was practically, and legally, your grandmother, and had been since you were nineteen-years-old. But you never thought of her like that. She was your Tsahik, your teacher, your elder, your spiritual guide, healer of the Omaticaya.
And you had vomited on her floor.
Mo’at cleared her throat, sitting across from you, your shameful vomit between you. Tears welled in your eyes. This was the worst day of your life.
“Well, luckily it was just you and me here, hm,” Mo’at said with an unusual lightness, a sweetness that was enough to spin you out of your own thoughts.
“My Tsahik, I am so sorry I do not know-”
“Don’t be stupid, how can you not know?” The typical biting Mo’at that you were familiar with came back, quickly. The woman leaned forward with a cloth, mopping up your watery bile like a dealdly secret to be kept between the Tsahik and her assistant.
Now, you really did not know what she meant. You sat up taller, finding a cloth to wipe your mouth clean, something tangible to hold onto.
“My Tsahik, I promise you, I do not know what you think I know.” You whispered into the cloth at your mouth. Mo’at discarded her cloth that blotted your vomit into a wooden bowl. Some poor trainee will deal with it later. She squinted at you, taking you in. Harshly, she grabbed at your wrists, inspecting your palms, and your shaking, delicate fingers.
She huffed as she held your wrist tightly in her left, her right hand poking at your cheek, breasts and thighs. “Hey!” you had enough of her prodding, as you pulled your wrist from her vice-like grip.
“Lay down. Now.” The Tsahik made moves to push you back onto the woven mats on the floor. You were scared and confused and honestly, getting rather emotional. You were still reeling over the embarrassment the vomit caused you. More and more these days you found yourself crying over nothing, or getting easily embarsassed.
You laid still, scared of Mo’at, and, scared of vomiting again. Flat on your back, you stared at the keen weavings of Mo’at’s medical tent. You hissed, looking down, Mo’at has placed a cold hollowed stone on your lower stomach, her ear pressed against it, she furrowed her brow bone.
The elder woman jerked up once she was satisfied, discarding her stone instrument, she settled back into her seated position on the floor, you mirroring her.
“Tsahik-”
“You are with child, quite obviously.” Mo’at had cut you off, while simultaneously giving you news that ripped all the air from your lungs.
Your mind was spinning. You were happy, you were sad, you were excited, you were embarrassed. How could you not see the signs within yourself? Obviously you and Neteyam mated often-
Oh, Eywa.
Neteyam.
You were going to have to tell him.
It was not like you both hadn’t spoken on the topic before, you knew you both wanted kids, a family. Additionally, children were expected, a future Olo'eyktan must be secured.
But the two of you had not planned for it to happen so soon. You had been so careful, tonics and teas. God, Neteyam pulled out most of the time.
Subconsciously one hand laid across your abdomen, the other covering your mouth. You felt your eyes struggling to focus on Mo’at, on anything really. You felt like a shell. A shell with a small shell inside.
“How far along?” You whispered, normally you would scold yourself for your informality towards Mo’at, but you would give yourself a break just this once.
“A month, maybe two. Nothing more, nothing less. You are not physically showing yet but you cannot be far away.” The rare gentleness from Mo’at rose its head once again. You were grateful for it. “Now, my lovely girl, go. Go collect yourself and tell my grandbaby that you’re having my great-grandbaby.” Mo’at said softly, helping you to your feet.
You couldn’t remember the short walk from Mo’at’s tent to the home you shared with Neteyam. You felt as if you were on auto-pilot, blacking out and teleporting from place to place. You quickly sat on the side of your shared bed. Furs and gossamer blankets providing comfort to your shaking legs. Laying back, you stared at the gossamer canopy Neteyam had only recently erected above your bed, dangling your legs off the side.
You rested your hands on your stomach, trying to etch into your memory what it felt like now, knowing that it will eventually swell with the growth of your baby.
Neteyam’s baby.
Realistically, you knew that Neteyam won’t be angry. Shocked? Maybe. But angry? Neteyam had never, ever been angry with you before. Emotionally? It was a different story, you imagined Neteyam being frustrated and screaming at you. You imagined him being disappointed. You imagined him packing his things and leaving. The passing thoughts alone were enough to put you on edge.
Sighing aloud, you had a look at the water clock resting on the other side of the room, you still had a few hours before Neteyam was to return. You still had a few hours to pull yourself together and work out how you were going to spit it out.
Neteyam ran his hands over his face, pulling up his ionar onto his forehead. His whole body burned from that flight. He had missed you today, not usually staying out on patrol this late, but the young recruits needed training, and Neteyam was always eager to please. But, he was a domestic man at heart, he loved being at home with you, loved pulling you to his chest, loved making whatever new thing you asked for.
He loved nesting, he realised. Loved doing it with you.
Striding from the Ikran keeper, Neteyam wanted nothing more than to see you.
The warm lights of your home welcomed him, though when he peered through the gap in the curtain flap, all he saw was your anxious figure, pacing back and forth, muttering to yourself. The air was wrong, Neteyam had never really seen you like this. He watched quietly, confused as to how you had not scent him already, something was wrong with you and he would be damned if he did not find out what.
“Oh Eywa, what am I supposed to say?” You prayed silently, wringing your wrists. You thought the pacing would bring you clarity, as it often provided your father-in-law. Yet you felt empty. And so unbearably full at the same time. In the few hours you had to wait for your mate you had come to love the little life growing in your womb.
You were so excited. You could hardly contain yourself. Neteyam would be the most perfect father. But as the night grew closer your brain started to pick itself apart.
It was all too much. You fell to your knees in the middle of your home, letting the tears flow freely now.
Neteyam did not let that stand for long. He quickly rushed in, picking you up and placing you in his lap. His strong arms snaking around your sobbing form. Your head quickly found is chest. He felt your hot tears streaming down your beautiful face and onto his skin. Neteyam hushed you, like he watched his mother do with his siblings, gently rocking you back and forth. It was so silent, save from your sobbing hiccups. Neteyam did not dare speak until you had stopped.
“My love, what has happened?” He asked gently, pulling away to cup your delicate face in his large, calloused hands. His eyes found yours, and he could see something was creating great turmoil in the labyrinth of your complicated, intelligent mind.
You sighed in response, shaking your head. Trying to find any courage at all. Knowing you have news that will change the course of someone’s life was not something you dealt with well. Maybe you were not cut out to be the clan’s spiritual leader as Tsahik. But that was a different problem for a different day.
Neteyam placed a chaste kiss to your lips, then your cheeks, under your eyes, the tip of your nose, your forehead. You were loved, he said through the gesture. You are safe here.
“Neteyam,” You started, softly. You were always softspoken. Something of which drove Neteyam crazy in love with you. So gentile, so docile, so calm. “I have something to tell you.” Neteyam’s stomach started to flip at your words, anxiety settling in, but like any good soldier, he willed his face into a blank expression. Giving nothing away.
And, in turn, giving you nothing.
“Continue my little love.” He said, putting your baby hairs behind your ears, smoothing your loose hair down as you spoke.
“Neteyam,” You cleared your throat, forcing that invisible, metaphysical bubble away. “I am with child.” The words hung in the air between you, and all you could do was wait for your mate to respond.
Neteyam felt like he was dreaming. Of all the things he prepared for you to say, you being pregnant was not one of them.
His tail betrayed him before his mouth did. Rapidly going side to side, the smile that erupted on Neteyam’s face threatened to split his jaw apart.
You were carrying a baby. His baby. Your baby, together, with him.
You melted into Neteyam’s searing kiss as he held you flush to his body. Pulling apart, Neteyam’s hands rested on your stomach, bright eyed and smily. He kissed your stomach over and over and over again. Peppering the whole area with his hot lips. You giggled at him. He was perfect.
“Oh (y/n), I am so happy.” Neteyam kissed you again, your giggles erupting between kisses as he could not decide on what he wanted to look at, your face or your stomach. “How long have you known, sweetheart?” He rested his forehead on yours, his hands resting on your still flat stomach.
“I found out earlier today.” You couldn’t help but smile. “Your grandmother knew.”
Neteyam laughed, his shoulders shaking, beads of his braids clinking together.
“She knows everything.”
That night as the two of you laid in bed, Neteyam spooning you, you rose out of your slumber briefly. Neteyam’s tail had wrapped itself around your thigh, your own tail sat under your abdomen of its own accord. Neteyam’s fingers splayed over your stomach. He was so protective already. So in love with you and your unborn baby.
You smiled. Shutting your eyes you thanked Eywa for gifting you with something so precious.

NETEYAM X READER X SULLY FAMILY (platonic)
Tumblr media
When neteyam had first told you about the sully family leaving, that they were being hunted, including you,  it came as such a shock, you'd known Neytiri all your life, and you'd also known that the goddess of a woman loved this land more than she loved her ikran. You were even further surprised when you learned that jake wanted you to come.
You were there when those Human-NAvi breeds had interrogated Lo-ak , those men yanked your hair and held you up like you were a slab of meat. That was when it all started, with a knife pressed to your throat, and spider being taken away, you knew something big was going to happen.
You belonged to this family since you were very young, being that your own parents were killed off by the sky people, leaving you as a child with mo-at. Jake took you under his wing, after all, You were only a year younger than neteyam, so they couldn't turn you away. Eventually, sensing the strong relationship between you and their oldest son, you were declared his promised mate.
Even so, you never truly felt like a part of the family, Jake and Neytiri tried their hardest, but often times you outcasted yourself, trying to prove yourself, trying to show them that they shouldn't regret taking you in. It didnt help that as you grew up, you and their oldest son developed some kind of complicated relationship, something neither of you could explain fully.
So, even though you loved this land, loved your home, with all of your heart, you left. The clan leadership was passed along to another family, and you all packed up your things, boarded your ikrans, and left. The ride was long, and hard, you didn't dare look back at the forest once you crossed the shoreline, fearing that homesickness would overcome you.
---
When you arrived at the metkayina tribe's village, you, along with the entire family, were greeted with a not-so-warm welcome, hostility was laced in every word they said. A woman, clearly pregnant, circled around your family, eyeing all of you down. You unknowingly caught the attention of the only son of the metkayina clan leader.
“Why have you come upon our land? Forest people belong in the forest” she spoke, hissing out the words, and locking eyes with neytiri. boys behind you grabbed at your tail and arms, yanking you about, commenting on how skinny, how frail it was. Neteyam stepped behind you and wrapped an arm around your waist, shooting a look to the greenish-blue boys.
“We are seeking refuge, and can't stay with the omaticaya clan.” Your father interjected, stepping in front of Neytiri, who was already hissing at the woman for touching tuk. For touching her. Obviously, you all were desperate, the different clans never mixed.
“Your arms are skinny, along with your tails, you will move very slow in the water. And you have no knowledge of our ways, you all will be like babies.” She grabbed Neytiri's tail, and yanked. You willed yourself not to go forward and push her off. You were just so scared, and so tired, if they didn't accept you, then you would have no where else to go. You clutched neteyams hand tight, just trying to relieve any of the anxiety you had with his presence.
“We can learn your ways, please. I’m just trying to protect my family.” Jake begged, locking eyes with you for a split second, then with the woman again, they held gazes for a few ominous moments. You stood in the back, wanting to cave in on yourself like a crab.
“It is settled, my children will give theirs lessons on our ways, and we will give them a home, treat them like your brothers and sisters.”
---
It was rough at first, having to abandon all of your traditions, the way you ate, the way you lived, the way you breathed. But as days passed, you got used to it, proving yourself to be a quick learner, catching on to the way of water fairly quickly. You werent as good as tsireya or anuong of course, But you were certainly ahead of lo-ak.
Once the anxiety of moving left you, you were finally able to appreciate the world around. All the unfamiliar excitements that came with a new home. The water that filled your home, the fish, the sand, the plants, the corals, everything was so… beautiful. That was the only word you could use to describe it.
Often you wished to live under the sea, be part of ey-wa, you grew to be absolutely fascinated with it.  How the ocean could be full of peace, or rage, how it could be as beautiful as it was terrifying. You didn't think that you'd ever been this content before, in a place that you loved, with the people you loved.
But, there's always a yin to a yang. And for you, that happened to be the children of the clan leaders. Tsireya was kind, and so bubbly, the two of you got along very well, even being able to call yourself somewhat best friends, you would giggle about the sully boys being idiots or gossip about the village and it's people.
But… anuong and roxto? They were much less than happy to help you and your family, anuong believed that forest people belonged in the forest (like mother like son), and  as roxto idolized his older brother, so did he. While anuong did harbor some strange feeling for you, which made him cut back on his teasing for you (and only you), he still made it a living hell for neteyam, and lo-ak, and kiri.
They poked fun at the skinniness of your people's arms and legs and tails, bullying lo-ak for having a hard time, at kiri for being a strange girl, and especially at neteyam, just for having you.
And you. Anuong couldn't find an ounce of reasoning why, but he hated you, because he couldn't stop liking you. Which resulted in only the most loving teasing and bullying from him  and his goonds. You couldn't tell the difference.
They always knew where to find you most of the time, with your head buried in the sand, or sitting on top of corral with a turtle, or picking seaweed for no reason at all. You had the strangest habits.
Like now, you floated on top of the shallow water, a few seashells sunbathing on your back, your hands stuck in the sand below. You didn't even notice the three boys coming up close, commenting on what the hell you thought you were doing.
“She's looking at the sand! What kind of freak are you?” one of the boys yelled above the water, pulling your tail up, that you did hear. Your head perked up from under the water, and you kicked his hand away from you. Wiping your eyes, you let out a soft
“Huh?” confusion laced through your tone, you stared at the three, anuong stood in the middle, looking strangely meek, while the one pulling at your tail giggled at your “idiocy”, the sight of them towering over you explained enough, and brought fear to you.
“Huh?” roxto mocked, splaying his hands out “I said- What kind of freak, are. You. “ he repeated, and as you stood up he got close to your face, and placed a hand on your shoulder, sticking his tongue out and hissing. You cowered back, and shrugged his hand off.
“I’m not a freak.” you spoke, and began walking towards the village and shore, hoping you could lose them, or they would just give up. They didn't, and instead followed you, tugging at your braids, and your tail.
“Are you sure, looking at stones, playing with fish. Freak.” anuong was the one this time to speak up, pointing at the little pile of seaweed and seashells on the shoreline. He leaned over, and hissed the word in your face, you were on the verge of tears at this point . Footsteps behind him were swift and soft as they came closer.
“Back off man, leave her alone” Lo-ak smacked him across the back of his head, coming up in front of you to  serve as a barrier from anuong. He'd known that you weren't the most normal person, but it still pissed him off to no end that people like anuong could walk all over you.
“Awwww, does the freak need her little brother to come and save her?”The boys around teased and pulled on lo-ak, grabbing at his “baby” tail and poking fun at him, lo-ak was dumb, you'd known this since he was young, he was reckless, and didnt think. But, his recklessness made him strong. But also gets him into situations like this. Where the two of you end up in an equal amount of trouble, tears threatening to spill from your eyes , and lo-akabout to set somebody on fire.
You automatically felt safer seeing neteyam rise frm the ocean waves, clearly hearing the commotion on the beach, he had been out here with you and lo-ak, but the three of you separated for a short moment. Of course anuong had to start something when he wasnt there to protect you.
“He said, leave her alone” Your mate shoved roxto back from you and set a hand on your shoulder, anuong raised a brow, but hushed his friend when he began mocking you for needing neteyam to come and save you too. The man you loved  locked eyes with you and grabbed your hand, clearly trying to rub it in anuongs face that you were his. Then, he walked, and lo-ak followed.
“Demon blooded freaks, all of them. You don't belong here.” Anuong hissed, eyes narrowing at the three of you beginning to walk away. You held onto lo-ak, knowing that the remark would set him off the edge further, trying to pull him back when he turned around. He just shook your hand off, and hurried over to anuong.
You didnt even care to listen to what Lo-ak was saying, knowing damn well that it would just end with him throwing punches, you were proved right when neteyam left a small kiss on your forehead, and sprinted over to jump into the mix. They yanked tails, and ears, and eventually, you sat in the sand and watched, laughing when they wined.
When both sides had tired out, and anuong and his little trio had run away, neteyam and lo-ak returned, you already had your lecture prepared, which was just a soft version of what Jake and Neytiri would say.
“What happened to not causing a ruckus? Dad is  going to kill you.”
“I Wouldn't let them talk to you like that, my y/n, not ever.”
---
You listened to Your father as he talked to the two boys, which turned out to be a lecture exactly as you had predicted, a-lot of yelling and “yes-sir’s”, you were praying to ey-wa that netetayam wouldnt take the blame again as he usually did, knowing that it would only make things worse. But as usual, he did the exact opposite of what you needed,
“It was my fault, I started the fight. They called y/n a freak,
told her she was strange.” He spoke, which only made jake angrier that his boys couldn't control themselves. Although he couldnt really blame neteyam, you were his mate, of course, the two of you hadn't completed the ritual, but you were head over heels for each other. Jake would certainly fight a metkayina boy for Neytiri. Anyday. By the end of the lecture, both lo-ak and neteyam were exhausted.
“Go apologize, he's the clan leader's son, make it count.” lo-ak huffed at that but still walked out, you did feel bad for him, you always did. But there was nothing you could do to change your dad's mind about this. He would just have to do it. When neteyam began to leave the hut, you started sitting up to go talk to him, not before your father could stop him though.
“Wait, neteyam. How did those other guys look?”
“Worse.”
“Good, thats good.”
You laughed.

*extra*
Later that day, when the eclipse darkened the sea, the entire family was all inside, eating dinner and talking about their days. You stayed outside, preferring to watch the fish swim at your feet. You weren't upset, per se, just mildly off-put. You didn't think that anoung hated you THAT much. You did notice the loud footsteps behind you on the wooden peer, clearly belonging to your dad, but you didn't say anything. When he sat next to you, and you lay down with your head in his lap.
“I heard about what happened today, did they hurt you? I'll beat them myself if they did” He threatened, a way-too serious look on his face for him to be joking. You let out a chuckle nonetheless, letting his hand place itself on the center of your back.
“No. They just made fun of me.” your voice was hushed, and it was apparent you were at least a little embarrassed by the incident. You didn't think you were a freak, you didn't know as much about this place as the natives did, so you were obviously excited about everything. That's the only reason you liked to collect the seaweed or look at the sand. You let out a sigh.
“Babygirl?” He spoke, beginning to rub circles into your back in a comforting motion.
“Yeah?” You were relaxed now, being in the arms of the only real father figure you've ever known. You swished your hand in the water  below, watching the glowing little guppies follow it around.
“If one of them boys ever speaks to you like that again, punch them so hard in the nose that they won't be able  breathe for a week.” He threatened, making a fist with his free hand and motioning a punch. You just stared up at him and snickered at how serious he was.
“Okay, i’ll make sure to do that next time” you laughed at the thought of you even remotely trying to fight, you were good with arrows, knives,  and medicines, but not fists.
“And if you don't want to, call me, or lo-ak, or even better,
Neteyam”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------wrote this at 5AM this morning with no sleep, so the grammar is probably not the best quality, however. ireallylikethisfic and I hope yall do too.

After the war, after dying and coming back to life. It went back like it always was. Lo’ak being reckless, neteyam taking the punishment for him, kiri wasn't actually outcast but she isolates herself, tuk clinging onto y/n, neytiri and Jake being too busy with their children to notice y/n. After Ronal saved you, you found comfort in her, an actual mother figure. Something you yearned for. She checked up with you, she was the one you saved you. While you were somewhere closer with your family, you were closer to the clan’s leader family. You fitted in, almost like you were birthed into the wrong family, the wrong clan. Tonowari took you under his wing, started to teach you how to hunt, and how to tame bigger animals. He took in place where your own father was supposed to be. While y/n was still distant with Aonung and Roxto, after a while they started to include you in things, sometimes playing pranks, sometimes just to hang out. Taking in place where your brothers were supposed to be. Tsireya was a gentle and caring soul. Taking the place of y/n's sister, Kiri's place. No one could’ve taken tuk’s place, she would still try to cling onto you when you transition to the sully’s marui until you were in the marui of ronal, tonowari, tsireya and Aonung. You were older than Aonung by a couple of months, making you the oldest out of the 2.
When Tsireya  was too busy with something else you stood in her place, helping Ronal heal others. You would go on the hunt with the members of the clan including Tonowari and your father. Whenever you were praised by Tonowari, your eyes lit up at his compliments, Jake would throw in a few words of encouragement. You gave an awkward smile and nodded your head. He couldn't lie seeing how different you treat tonowari, like he was your father. while you treated him like a distant friend, made his heart shatter. He decided to stay quiet while you were listening to the techniques that Tonowari gave out.
When you and the rest of the hunt came back the others crowded you, tsireya checked you for wounds. You laughed at her when she threw a punch at you.  Aonung and Roxto were behind her, when she walked away to check on her father. “They great warrior y/n, what have you caught us to eat” roxto had a high pitched voice, his hand on his heart looking at you with heart eyes. “Don't you like kiri?” that quickly shut him up. You and  Aonung laugh at his reaction. While you and the two reef na’vi were talking about how you killed various animals, telling them the stories, you felt a child jump on your back right on your scar. It had been almost a year since the war. “n/n! Your back, how was it?” you looked behind you, met with the eyes of his youngest sister, tuk. “It was so cool, I caught so many fish tuk!” y/n voice was full of joy. Tuk was in y/n arms, her head leaning on his shoulder. He turned around hearing the footsteps of his family. “Why are you allowed to go and I can't?” lo’ak immediately started to whine. “It's because he is better than you, obviously” kiri was trying to get a rise of her older brother. y/n nodded, agreeing with his younger sister. “y/n come on go clean so you can join dinner.” Ronal yelled, almost done with seasoning the fish. Y/n quickly put down tuk and ran to the ocean washing his face and legs, making sure to get all of the dirt off. After washing he decided to eat with his actual family, something he hasn't done in almost 2 months. He helped neytiri get dishes of the many different choices. He started a fire, to help and keep his family warm while they eat. After preparing everything his mom called out for the rest of the family to come and eat. Once everyone sat, Jake took notice of y/n sitting in between tuk and neteyam. He smiled, any negative feelings washed away, seeing him joking with his siblings. The family was interrupted as someone covered y/n eyes,” guess who n/n~” the unknown person sang out in a high-pitched tone. “We are not 6 roxto” even if his eyes were covered, everyone knew that he was rolling his eyes. “How could call me roxto, skxwang” Aonung  voice was normal, he lifted his hand off of y/n face. “You guys are so idiotic I can't tell the difference anymore” y/n held a playful frown. “What do you want anyways? I'm trying to eat” y/n asked, getting ready to get more fish. “Come on, mom won't let us eat unless you're there” Aonungs hand on your shoulder” tell her i'm eating with my family” he took a bite of the fish. “Your family? Didn't you say that yo–” he cut off y/n loudly coughing, hitting his chest. “I have never said, wherever you heard it ain't come for me. I would never say something like that” you were quick to shush the reef na’vi. He quickly caught on, and slowly backed away from the family of 7. y/n filled his mouth with food, trying to avoid the conversation that was bound to happen. “Woah, they made this spicy. I'm going to get something to drink. Do you guys want some water?” y/n was practically jumping up before he even finished the sentence.
“What was Aonung talking about y/n?”  Jake was death glaring y/n, “that's a good question actually! Uhm, I'm not sure. Sometimes I think he is ill in the head.” y/n was such a bad lair, even tuk could tell he was lying. “Go, we’ll talk about it later” neytiri intervened before Jake started yelling. y/n mouthed a thank you towards his mom. Aonung was waiting for him by the shore, they were barely out of earshot. But y/ns parents could easily hear them. “Bro why would you say that, now i'm ‘bout be yelled at.” Y/n delivered a punch towards the younger arm, “chill it's not like you're even gonna listen to them. Plus your sleep at my family marui, at this point why do you keep calling them your family? You're practically my brother.” you and him started to walk off, to get some water.
You dreaded walking back, praying to your grandpa that they wouldn't be awake. But he did not grant you your prayer. You took a big gulp of the cold water. Slowly you sat back down and went back to eating, trying to push off the 5 pairs of eyes off of you. “So, what was he talking about?” lo’ak was looking into my eyes. “I just tell him how I feel, nothing bad” for a second everything was at ease, but nothing lasts forever. “It has to mean something, he even asked why you still call us your family.” Jake's voice was low, almost like he was growling. Jake got up walking into the shared family marui. Y/n groaned and followed him into the marui,
“What possible feelings do you have that causes someone to even suggest something like that?” Jake was trying his hardest to not yell, aware of the rest of his kids outside of the hut. “What have we done to make you feel like that?” Neytiri's voice was soft, like she was about to break completely. “You’ve done nothing! That is the problem,” y/n was so tired of being forgotten by his own family. “When you guys forgot me, I found a family that wouldn't. You brought this on yourself and now you're mad at me?” y/n wasn't yelling but he wasn't keeping quiet either, he aggressively moved his hands as another way to show his anger. “Do you guys even remember me taming my own ikran? That's because you weren't there! You guys were never there for me! Always busy with another person or sibling.” unbeknownst to him, said siblings were listening in. “After the war, after I literally died but somehow survived, you guys forgot me again! Ronal taught me how to properly treat a wound, not you. Tonowari taught me how to kill a prey without being caught, not you!” tears started to threaten to spill. “So, I'm sorry if I found more of a family in them than you.” y/n looked at his father, “the day i came back, that was the first you had held me, since– i'm not even sure.” tears started spilling from his eyes. “I was all alone, ever since I could remember and neither of you seemed to care.” y/n mumbled, walking out to his siblings. He gave a weak smile and started to speed walking into the water. He didn't take the time to stop and look at the passing glowing corals, not like he did a day ago. No, a day ago he wasn't consumed with so many different emotions; at least not like this. He felt resentment, embarrassment, sadness, relief. Resent towards his parents for never being there, embarrassed that he let his emotions take over him, relief for finally saying his true feelings. Sadness, sadness for his siblings, his parents, neighbors for having to hear the arguing. All these feelings tired the poor boy's body. Ever since the war he has not been able to go back to 100% back to himself, maybe it was the mental scars or the physical scars. He looks different from it, seemingly more tired, easier to anger. Everyone noticed, how could they not? Before the lonely na’vi could even stop himself; he fell asleep.
After the war, Ronal took interest in Y/n Te Suli Tsyeyk'itan. Seeing how he fought for the people of her clan, seeing how he nearly died, seeing how he looked at y/n looked whenever his parents spent their affection on one of his other siblings. She saw him for him. Not for his different colored skin no, not anymore. She saw him as a child, a scared 15-year-old, lonely. She saw the envy, she saw the jealousy, the longing looks. She talked with Tonowari, judging the head of the family.  Subconsciously Tonowari judged them too. He understood getting swept away by the other kids, he didn't understand forgetting a kid that actually fucking died and came back to life. Y/n was literally with ewya and after what seemed like a week, they forgot him again? The two parents started y/n out to dinners, hunting. Like a real family. y/n teaching Tsireya how to braid each other's hair, making roxto and Aonung try the spicy food native to the forest na’vi. Actually, freaking out when y/n felt ronals baby kick her. Tonowari telling him sacred stories passed through the generations of the metkayina. Roxto and y/n, the honorary tribe family members.

Hi, I love your writing! I would like to request a sully family x adopted daughter reader where she is sad since she misses home but doesn't let anybody see that she is sad?
Tumblr media
— pairings : sully family x fem!adopted!reader.
— warnings : avatar the way of water spoilers. more like fluff then angst.
— author's note : Tuktirey and mama Neytiri fluff coming through<3. very short, but i wanted it to end with ma neytiri being the best mom🤞
Tumblr media
You watched your siblings play in the water with the Metkayina siblings as they learned of their ways. You were just sat on the woven material of the Marui, a material that acted as a 'blanket' that your friends from back home weaved draped over your lap.
Tuktirey nears you, panting heavily as she tugs on your tail softly. She wipes off the water that irritated her face, giving you her signature big smile. "Come on, (name)! Swim with us!" She cheers.
At her sentence, the attention of your brothers and the two Metkayina siblings was caught. "Yeah, sis!" Lo'ak splashed around the water childishly, accidentally splashing on Tsireya in the process.
"What? Do you not know how to swim?" Ao'nung questions, getting on your nerves. Tsireya gives him a scolding glare, and then turns to you with a sweet smile.
"Come with us, (name), I will be teaching you if you have any problems." She states, looking up at you as your face scrunched up.
"I– i don't know, I think it's just best if I stay here."
Neteyam shakes his head, his braids moving at his actions. "Father will be mad if he learns you didn't spend the day learning, sister. He's gonna give you one of his big lectures again." He says, stating the obvious.
You blew raspberries, making Tuktirey giggle. Groaning, you stood up from your sitting position and went back to the direction of your home.
Neteyam pursed his lips as Tuk whined at you as you walked away. Tsireya looks at Lo'ak with a confused face, slightly worried for you. "Will she not be joining us? Maybe something is bothering her." She asks out of concern.
Lo'ak was about to respond to her despite not knowing why as well, before he heard the sound of loud thudding footsteps. The rest turns to see you jump in their direction, leaving them to scramble away as you jumped recklessly into the water.
Neteyam and Tuktirey cheers as you did so while you hurriedly went up the water to come up for air. "Yay! You did it!" Tuktirey praises, swimming towards you and wrapping her legs around your waist as she clung onto you like a koala.
You chuckled, "I haven't even done anything yet."
"Yeah, but you joined us." Lo'ak gently hits the back of your head, and you hissed at him playfully. Tsireya smiles at the scene as Ao'nung tried his best not to role his eyes.
"Come now, you four have still lots to learn!"
"Four?" You questioned, tilting your head. "Where's Kiri?"
"Not again."
"Again?" You exclaimed incredulously, looking at Neteyam with wide eyes. What does he mean again?
"Don't worry guys, Kiri is right here!" Your group hears a voice from a distance. You turn to see a boy frantically waving his hands in the air as kiri laughed at him, and you sighed in relief.
"Keep an eye on that girl, why don't you?" You clicked your tongue and Neteyam, and he playfully salutes at your orders.
Tumblr media
The sound of knife chopping on your families dinner ingredients filled the silence as you helped your mother with preparing. You have been drained from earliers activities, and your muscles were definitely sore.
You were thankful Tsireya was patient with you when her brother wasn't, or else you would've given up right then and there. You appreciated the girl, and you had taken a liking towards her. She was definitely good in teaching, her words and examples were well, but you had wished she told you about the pressures of the water when you rode your first Ilu.
Thankfully you weren't embarrassed like how your brother was.. you felt bad for him though.
Your mother, Neytitri noticed your unusual silence and stopped her chopping, looking at you suspiciously. "Is there something the matter, child?" She questioned, hiding her concern.
You let out a sigh, your harsh and hasty knife chopping slightly faltering at her acknowledgement. "I miss our home, ma." You told her, after a few beats of silence.
Your mother let's out a deep exhale, moving towards you to comfortingly rub circles on your back. Your shoulders slumped at her actions, finding her ways of reassurance nice. "I know, ma dear. But you know your father's intentions, you of all your siblings would understand." She says in a low voice.
"At least Tuk is enjoying it here." You blew raspberries, going back to chopping. Neytiri fondly smiles at your words, her hand switched from your back and on to your shoulder.
"What do you miss of our home?" She questioned.
And without missing a beat, you answered. "Everything." You said. You glanced at her, eyeing her reactions.
"It's gonna be hard to adjust for now, ma dear. But I promise you, you're going to fit just right in." Your mother spoke, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. You softly smiled at her, leaning your head on her chest. Her hand holds you there, whispering sweet nothings into your ear as she comforts you.
At the corner of her eye, she sees a tall blue figure standing at the opening of there house. She turns to see her husband looking at them fondly, and she smiles at him.

platonic!Lo’ak talking to the reader about everything, like all of his adventures to his feelings towards a member of the clan. Bonus, Lo’ak and the reader snuggling in bed and telling each other about their day
Tumblr media
all is calm
˚。⋆ avatar!reader x platonic!lo'ak
in which lo'ak is never too hold to spend time with his mother.
author note: I can't explain it, but when I think of reader and lo'aks relationship, it makes me think of disney classic mothers with their children.
The setting sun beams down on you, a light chill from the waters and evening air sets in. Cooling your body from the days woek. You rose early with t'shahik. Learning the way of healing, of listening to the Great Mother.
When you were free from your studies, you returned to your mauri. Where your children awaited. Your daughter and Tuk enjoyed the waters while the boys went out further. Hunting, and bonidng with some of the villages boys.
It was you alone, waiting for Jake and Neytiri to return from a hunting party. Their second since your refugee time began. So you began the process of skinning the fish and boning it with careful fingers.
"Mother!" you could not fight the upturn of your lips as you cast a quick look over your shoulder. He quickly drops his hunting gear to bring his hand to hos forehead, "I see you."
"Ma Lo'ak! The prodigal hunter returns,"I see you as well."
"Netayem is helping the girls hunt," he crouches to sit beside you. You nod, carefully working the thin bones out the fish as to not snap or leave any behind.
"And did you and your brother catch anything today?"
"Yes! But it was big! It was at least double dads size. And It took three of us to take this thing down!" He spoke animatedly, using his hands to scale this creature. You couldn't fight the grin on your face as he wnt into more detail.
Before, he would spit out his distaste for this watery hela d he once called it. But now these days, since peace as finally been bestowed uppn you all with the death of that monster. There is a fondness and love in hs eyes. He misses the forest less, you can tell.
"Now tell me you were with...ah what is the boys name."
"Aonung! You should have seen him! We had a running bet to see who could dive the farthest. I was clearly the winner but then he goes on to say 'well then lets see who can stay underneath the longest!"
You huff out in lafter, wrapping the fresh food salted and seasoned tightly in leaves. Setting the bundles now one by one, Lo'ak helps you not missing a detail in this contest.
"Mother, you need to rest," Lo'ak grumbles watchng as you stand, pressing your hands to your back and stretching.
"How can I? I need to feed you my greedy little monster" you hiss playfully, setting the basket near the fire.
"You really need to, dads gonna start freaking out when you start showing more," his eyes glance down at your stomach. Your second born, you often forget they are even in there, but Lo'ak has his fathers eyes. "And plus Tsireya tells me you are learning from the healers."
"Lo'ak stubborn son of Toruk Makto listens to his father? I truly have lived long enough to see it all" you wistfully look up into the sky, laughter bubbles up in you at the sour look that descends on your sons face.
"I will rest as soon as I get a fire starting." But Lo'ak beats yo too it. Working with skillful hands a small ember begins to build which you fan till it is bright and warming you both.
You will admit, the cool waters sooth the ache in your feet, and Lo'ak sits close beside you. "Enough about me. Tell me about the hunt. How do you plan to capture the beast the next time your party sets out?"
Lo'ak explains it in great detail. When the chill of the evenings settles, he scoots over to you. Curling into your side, more tales of the day fill the space. But when Jake and Neytiri return with the girls curled in their arms, they find you and Lo'ak nestled together in your hammock.

summary: [y/n] has always been an angry girl. why wouldn't she be ready to fight any avatar that puts their hands in her siblings?
sully family x sully!reader
a/n: i just did this one for fun because i wanted one where she's an absolute boss and a half. love her !! remember , reqs are open and waiting. i probably won't write anymore fali x [y/n] stuff unless i get specific reqs because they're really difficult to write without direct inspo and ideas. once again , motivation is really important to keep me writing , so please comment feedback + reblog !! i would seriously appreciate it. ( also , for some odd reason my two most recent works have barely gotten any interaction -- idk if that's just bc tumblr is being a problem , or if it's because fali has lost his magic touch ( which if so , i completely get it ) , but if you guys could help me out to try and figure out what's going on ?? )

angry spirit
Tumblr media
nobody quite understood the rage that naturally flowed through the veins of the women in the sully family. nobody quite understood the urge to protect that seemed to be carried between each and every one of the children that jake and neytiri shared and adored together. nobody quite understood… not until they experienced it themselves.
and trust me, plenty of people have experienced it, humans and na’vi alike. even from a young age, there were times where one of the kids were ( one-hundred and ten percent ) willing to fight another kid if it meant they would stop picking on their siblings.
luckily — of perhaps unluckily, depending on the perspective — that shared agreement only seemed to get stronger with age. as the relationships between each kid developed, as more seemed to join the family in general, there was a camaraderie between the five sully kids. even tuk, just a tiny thing herself, was well aware of her willingness to risk her own life if it meant she could save her sisters and brothers.
that being said, there was absolutely no way any of her older siblings would ever let that slide, but it was a sweet sentiment on its own.
even though this habitual response seemed to run through every sully’s blood, it was strongest in the eldest girl.
being neteyam’s twin — younger by just a few minutes — allowed for [y/n] to balance him out. while he had the expectations of future olo’eyktan on his shoulders from the moment he graced pandora with his birth, [y/n] was a freer spirit.
she was also a much more angry spirit.
not that she held fury against every person she interacted with, but [y/n] wasn’t scared of disliking anyone. she also wasn’t scared of letting them know that she didn’t like them; a blessing and a curse, the sully family often called it.
but it stemmed further than that. it ran stronger than that.
from a young age, jake taught his oldest daughter how to channel her anger much healthier. what did jake sully consider a healthy outlet? well, fighting, of course.
so, the sully child that’d been this close to fighting another kid in lo’ak’s honor? yeah, that was [y/n].
not to mention her iknimaya — the rite of passage that quite possibly boosted this girl’s ego far too high. she deserved it, though. not many young na’vis could complete the event in such little time, especially against the pain that her ikran was.
he was a bitter fellow, similar to his spirit sister. angry at the world for every little thing and always ready for a fight. they truly were connected in every possible way.
but, her iknimaya was physical evidence that fighting fire with fire never worked. the truth was that one flame had to overcome the other — one flame had to envelop the other. it was just a matter of which flame was stronger.
[y/n] knew from the moment she locked eyes and that joyful, adrenaline-filled grin blessed her face that she would win.
thank eywa she believed in herself, because neytiri and jake nearly lost all of their faith at the sight of the monster that towered over the young girl.
another notable moment — or perhaps a series of moments — of her oh-so optimistic and joyful personality was prompted by her very own father. if there was one thing that the oldest daughter was confident in, it was her father’s love. she knew that he loved her — loved all of them — and that made it extremely easy for her to argue with him on any topic she disagreed with.
as annoying as it happened to be to jake, neytiri loved that she was raising a strong woman. it often reminded her of herself at a young age.
but, every single one of those stories were child’s play compared to the raw anger that surged through her body when her and her siblings’ lives were held under knife and gunpoint.
[y/n], the original rebel and inspiration for lo’ak’s ‘admirable’ choices, was happy to join the crew on their adventure through the jungle. with lo’ak grounded from flying due to his choices just the other night, he’d practically begged his older sister to join them.
they were partners in crime, afterall.
once neteyam decided to become all responsible and stuff ( not that [y/n] blamed him… but it was disappointing ), [y/n] and lo’ak seemed to have magnetized toward each other, although that might be a sign to turn the other way and run as fast and as far as you can.
either way, [y/n] found herself exploring the similar jungle scene alongside all of her siblings minus neteyam and with the additional presence of spider.
as soon as the familiar scene turned not-so familiar, it seemed that [y/n] had a feeling. a feeling that something was wrong, that something else was creeping. she should have listened to her gut.
and that same thought resurfaced as soon as the stomach-dropping view of the avatars overcame her view from the bushes.
it was only once said avatars put their hands on her baby siblings that the familiar settled, bubbling beneath her thick layers of skin. it was only when [y/n] fell into an eerie silence and state of pure calm that every other sully sibling felt their own fear.
even as tuk squirmed and cried against the bruising grip of the avatar’s, even as kiri cried out at the sharp knife edge against her throat, even as spider fought his restraints, even as lo’ak stared into the terrifying eyes of the same man that had nearly killed his father…
[y/n] stayed perfectly compliant. stuck on her knees, queue throbbing at the feeling of her opponent tugging it, [y/n] merely stared straight at quaritch. silently, her urge to fight was building, and everybody that knew her was perfectly aware. and ready.
she ran her tongue smoothly against her fangs, eyes narrowed straight at the man that threatened the lives of her siblings.
a solid thirty minutes had already passed, eclipse coming quicker than [y/n] would’ve preferred. she just had to hope that, without being used to their forest and bodies, the avatar’s didn’t have the same keen night vision as she did.
“you okay there, kid?” the avatar teased, attempting to startle her with his threatening voice. he tugged her braid, nearly drawing a hiss from deep within her rib cage, but she held it back. he seemed to be bothered with the fact that her eyes hadn’t once left the body of their colonel.
but, for once, she drifted her gaze to meet her perpetrator and summoned english for his benefit. “ask again in a few minutes.”
and, almost as if [y/n] could feel the presence of her parents, a familiar bird call echoed through the nighttime breeze. her ears pressed back against her head in shock before she quickly recovered and flashed an innocent smile to the avatar.
he merely grunted, pulling her braid one last time for good measure, and looked back up at quaritch.
now, she just had to be patient. she could do that. well, as long as she got what she wanted in the end, and that was a good fight. she deserved it after letting the chains rub back and forth against her wrists, eating at her skin through the friction.
that being said, as soon as her mother’s signal became clear, she straightened up and locked eyes with lo’ak. a discreet nod was enough between them. grab tuk and go. she knew kiri and spider would handle themselves.
plus, the extra connection between spider and quaritch was just another layer of protection for her baby sister. perhaps it was a terrible way of thinking, but [y/n] wouldn’t dwindle too much on it. the urge to survive had its faults, afterall.
and finally, once neytiri’s arrow soared through the air, it was go time.
while lo’ak and tuk bit the arms of their restraining avatars, lo’ak also doubling duty and releasing whatever gas canisters had been accessible on the guy’s belt, kiri and spider were lucky enough to be given a chance to run as soon as the avatars lifted their guns.
[y/n] liked to do it the hard way, though.
she swung her legs in a swift motion, wrapping them around the avatar’s. she weighed his bottom half, keeping him from being able to move far, and in a split second, neytiri’s arrow was embedded in his chest.
[y/n] let go, scrambling to her feet and up the nearest tree, finding a moment of solace nested in the upper branches. she could see everything, and they couldn’t see her — she was a master of disguise and hiding, if anything.
and then, it seemed the world went a few clicks quieter, gunfire calming down just a tad. one scan of the scene, and [y/n] knew it was because they’d lost sight of her siblings.
“the kids are gone.” a voice crackled through the walkie strapped to a dead avatar’s chest at the base of the tree, the small noise quiet against the chaotic scene. [y/n] was merely lucky she was in little enough of a proximity to even catch the words.
“what do you mean gone?” quaritch. she could tell from his stingy accent and infuriating pronunciation of vowels.
a beat of quiet against more raining gunfire. “the boy and youngest girl ran off. tarzan and the other girl split to the opposite direction.”
“which other girl?” [y/n] felt a familiar smile on her face.
“what do you mean —”
quaritch was angry, and [y/n] couldn’t help but find pure enjoyment from the scene. little did he know that the young na’vi girl could now see him from her spot in the tree, eyes narrowed on the colonel hunched behind a fallen log.
“there are two girls. one of ‘em quiet and useless, the other looks like her devil of a mother.” the same mother that managed to kill him the first time.
[y/n]’s eyes focused on the demon in na’vi skin, watching his face contort at the familiar arrow pierced in the wood beside him. it was almost as if he’d conjured her very own “devil of a mother” into existence. “seems that very mother might be in attendance this fine evening.”
[y/n] scrunched her nose in disgust, her skin crawling at his words. she really could not stand him. but, her attention was quickly pulled back to reality when he dropped the walkie and called into the open air, all while reloading his gun, “that you, mrs. sully? i recognize your calling card.”
instantly, [y/n]’s head whipped around, locating the exact tree in which her mother hid behind. unfortunately, [y/n] was a few feet away and at the worst possible angle to help.
“why don’t you come on out, mrs. sully?” quaritch continued, and [y/n]’s eyes followed a different avatar that began to creep past the colonel. “you’n i, we got some… unfinished business.”
“demon!” neytiri’s voice caused panic to spike in the young na’vi’s heart, blood pumping with adrenaline. “i will kill you as many times as i have to.”
it was only when [y/n] looked back at quaritch that she noticed the other avatar was missing. a million different curse words rattled deep within her brain, eyes widening in fear.
meanwhile, quaritch would not be distracted from his tangent. “i guess you an’ the corporal have been pretty… busy, haven’t ya? got yourself a whole litter of… half-breeds.”
what could she do?
as quickly and as silently as she could, [y/n] scrambled through the wet tree branches, cursing herself every time her feet lost grip. nerves added up with rain never helped.
at the very last second, [y/n] reached a spot in which she could just barely see her mom. well, her mom, and the avatar that had a gun aimed right at her. just as [y/n] opened her mouth and prepared to scream a distraction, an arrow flew right through the avatar’s body.
gunfire followed almost immediately after, and her dangerous balance finally lost way, causing the girl to topple from her position and into the muddy ground below.
[y/n] was quick to stand up — she had to be — but the scene was not a pretty sight to behold.
she was surrounded. surrounded by three different avatars, each with their own weapon that could quite easily hurt her, if not kill her on the spot. she just prayed that, if they did manage to get to her, she could make them scream first.
[y/n] knew she would. it was always just a matter of mentality, right?
and so, as if the clock slowed down just for her, [y/n]’s eyes flashed around her and gauged every detail possible. the machine gun, loaded and prepared ( although she had noticed that it was already halfway empty ), in the hands of the avatar to her right, the two knives ready in the hands of the avatar to her left, and the last avatar just in front of her. nothing but his fists.
a smile surfaced.
she could deal with that.
and then, before the rest of her body returned to the consciousness of time, her feet began to move. [y/n] lifted her arms so she could see her wrists — still wrapped in chains — and she leapt upwards.
her long legs gave her a higher jump, bringing her and her hands to the perfect height to wrap her chains around the weaponless avatar’s neck. she swung herself around, legs hooking his torso as she tugged with every bit of strength she could muster.
at the chaotic sounds around her, [y/n] knew that bullets were being fired now. lucky for her, she had her very own personal shield, but that meant the tree she was choking was about to go timber.
once she felt the warm splatters of his blood against her stomach, she knew she only had a matter of time before getting squished under a dead man’s weight. [y/n] shifted her weight, unhooking her legs and placing her feet on his hips very carefully.
[y/n] kept her ears aware at all times as she leapt up and off of the now dead avatar, pushing him onto the ground with her jump. her ears moved vigilantly, picking up the sounds of the bullets just before they were shot so she could move just in time to avoid any casualties.
and then her favorite sound rang through the air. an empty cartridge.
at that, her infamous smirk surfaced as she locked eyes with the now useless avatar.
now, behind her, the third avatar with the knives thought she was being slick, creeping behind her with both weapons raised to stab her in the back.
luckily, [y/n] was far too aware and far too pissed to miss such an important detail.
just as the third avatar broke through stabbing distance, [y/n] whirled around and disarmed her in a quick movement. both knives flew into the air, and she swiftly grabbed each of them.
each blade found their own homes embedded in the chests of her enemies
and then, just like that, she’d won.
[y/n] huffed for air, three dead avatars laying around her feet. blood pooled, swirling in an overwhelming pool of maroon. and none of it was hers.

Tumblr media
"We hit them here. Assuming they will be waiting for us to hit them earlier in the transport because of our surprise attack last time, let's wait a bit more until they cross this-" Veronica circled an area on the map with red paint using her finger, "to attack them. Like we discussed before, Tarsem will place the bombs by the tracks and activate them. The track gets destroyed and the train breaks. Na'vi on ground will collect all the goods in the train. Everything that is of use to us. Na'vi on sky will handle the helicopters."
She observed all the warriors. "Am I clear?"
They all answered with a firm yes, a nod of respect sent her way. Veronica looked at Jake and nodded. The simple gesture from her told him that the brief was done.
"Warriors, get ready!" announced Jake. The tent was instantly filled war cries, filling each na'vi inside with determination. The RDA destroyed their home once, they wont allow it to happen again. One by one, they left.
The Olo'eyktan watched as each of them exited the tent until his gaze stopped on two distinctive figures. He sighed, "Neteyam and Lo'ak, stay for a moment."
Veronica and Neytiri shared a knowing look. Their two sons weren't meant to be part of the raid because it was too dangerous. The first raid took five of their warriors lives and many injured, and fortunately Neteyam and Lo'ak weren't too stubborn about joining. This time they begged days on end about being a part of it.
Every time, Jake replied no without hesitation. He might claim they weren't prepared or that it was too perilous, but his two wives understood deep down that it was just because he didn't want the sight of their blood out there. Heck, he was already worried about Veronica and Neytiri being part of the raid. Thinking about his sons in the field will give him a headache.
The brothers glanced at each other before standing in front of him. Jake eyed them intensely as he spoke. "You're spotters, you got it? Spot bogeys and alert us if there are any," he reminded.
They nodded. "Yes, sir."
Their response didn't ease him, however. Jake knew it was an automatic response just for them to be granted permission. He stared at his younger son a bit longer before he nudged his head to the door. The boys walked away from their position and exited the tent. Their absence filled the place with silence as the adults just stood there and watched where they left.
Veronica lay her hand on his shoulder, and squeezed them gently. She smiled, "They will be fine."
"Yeah, I hope so," he mumbled, his head down.
"I am still against it," said Neytiri.
Veronica snapped her gaze towards her with furrowed brows. If there was one thing she knew about Neteyam and Lo'ak, it was that they would start to defy them little by little if they shielded them for too long.
"But," Neytiri continued, "our sons are strong. They know what to do."
Jake pursed his lips, his only response being a nod. The boys were too young for this in his eyes. Just because he wasn't human anymore, it didn't mean that he has forgotten his culture and beliefs. Neteyam's age may be considered the age of maturity, but to Jake he is still a kid.
Veronica tucked her knife in her sheath that was tied around her lower back above her tail. It was hard to stay positive in this situation because it seemed like Jake's anxiety passed to her. He isn't wrong to feel that way, no. She tried to overlook negative thoughts about them being there because the two were looking forward to this. They were driven to protect their home, and she doesn't blame them for that.
All the warriors crowded around the egde of High Camp with their ikrans. Vera, her ikran, stood out to her the most just because her colours are her favourite. She was painted with a mix of white, light blue, and green— colours that reminded her of the ocean.
"Can't believe we're spotters," Lo'ak grumbled. He shook the locks of the saddle on his ikran, making sure that it is fastened.
Neteyam sighed as he shook his head. "Be grateful. This is better than nothing."
The younger brother rolled his eyes. "Bet he only said yes cause Mama said so."
Lo'ak was sure that his life would have been more difficult if his mother wasn't there. She was the only person who understood him, who wouldn't yell at him for his mistakes and instead talk to him in a manner that he would understand what he did was wrong. His father's scoldings does give him a wake up call, but not enough to make him stop.
"And what about me?" Veronica arched an eyebrow as she approached them.
Neteyam smirked when he heard his brother curse under his breath as he was caught in the act.
"Nothing, mama."
"This skxawng said father only said yes because you said so, mom," said Neteyam. Lo'ak sent him a glare but he could care less. His baby brother was harmless as long as their mom was there.
Since the children have two mothers, they called them with different names to not confuse the women. There were too many instances when they were babies crying out for their mothers, but the mothers would always attend to them simultaneously. So, Neytiri was mother, while Veronica was mom. Although, Lo'ak called Veronica mama since he was little and he didn't grow away from that habit.
"Just so you know, I don't feel as confident anymore for letting the two of you out there. There are still ways you could help the clan and I would gladly find them," she said. Her words alerted the two teenagers immediately. Veronica smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes. "However, I trust you not to do anything stupid. Am I right to do so?"
Lo'ak nodded, his boyish grin stretched on his lips. "Mama, please, as if I would do something stupid at a time like this."
"You don't really have a good record for showing obedience in the worst times, ma'itan."
Neteyam chuckled, "Don't worry, mom. I will make sure he will stay put."
Somehow, I doubt that, she thought. The eldest son always managed to be tangled in his mess even if he doesn't want to, but she felt reassured that Lo'ak wasn't alone.
Looking at them stood at each others side made Veronica feel nostalgic. The image of them as children flashed through her head. They were yelling for her and running towards her with cheeky smiles, jumping into her arms. It seemed like time flew too fast. Now, they had matured and had a sense of responsibility.
"When did you grow so big?" Veronica sighed, tears welling up in her eyes. She drew Lo'ak into her embrace.
"Mom, stop," Lo'ak whined. His eyes looked around frantically with his cheeks flushed. He did not want to be treated like a prrnen in front of so many people.
"Hm, why?" she teased. "Do you have a girl I don't know about?"
"No, but-"
"I thought so." Veronica tightened her arms around her son, planting a kiss on his temple with a loud sound effect just to embarrass him more. She laughed as she heard him groan against her.  "My baby is so big now!"
"Mom!" he complained. Veronica laughed as she took a step away from her son, seeing his cheeks flushed from embarrassment entertained her.
She turned to Neteyam. "Ah, my bigger baby." Her arms were stretched away from her sides, an invitation. Unlike Lo'ak, Neteyam didn't shy away from her affection.
He felt so nervous about the raid that his hands started to sweat, but his nerves weren't enough to scare him away. He wondered how Lo'ak looked so calm, excited even. They were actually going to witness up close the damages the RDA could bring. But being wrapped around his mom's warmth relaxed him, even if it was just for a little while.
"Mom, are you in sky team?" he asked.
Veronica shook her head. "No, I am part of the ground team. Your mother is the one in sky team."
Neteyam felt a gentle kiss against his temple. She stepped back, her hands squeezed his shoulder comfortingly. "Everything will be fine, Teyam."
He thought hearing those words again would make him feel better, but it didn't.
Veronica wondered if her mother ever felt this way: her heart racing from anxiety, a knot in her stomach, and the palms of her hands sweaty just for being worried for her own daughters' safety. Although the chances are highley unlikely, it didn't hurt to wonder. She would consider her mother lucky if she had never felt that way because then she had nothing to fear.
The moment she didn't see her two sons in the sky like they were supposed to, panic started to kick in. She spotted their ikrans staying on the ground, their riders nowhere to be seen. Just as she was about to alarm Jake, gun ships came and fired at them.
Veronica hurried to take cover, not leaving her any time to search for her sons. She prayed that they were safe, and that everyone managed to escape the shots. She only felt her worries fade away when she saw Lo'ak flew away on his ikran, but it soon came back when Neteyam was being carried by Jake. He had scratches on his back, blood seeping out from it. Did every mother experience this?
They were currently at High Camp. She carressed Vera's head before approaching the boys.
"Mom! Mama!" Tuk ran towards the two women and tried to hug them both with her small arms. The youngest Sully would often call either of the mothers with different names, not that they mind. Like Lo'ak, Tuk didn't stray away from her habit in calling Veronica mama, but she does call Neytiri this sometimes.
Veronica smiled and pinched her cheek gently. She patted the small girl's back when she moved away, and continued to walk towards the boys. Neteyam stood in front of his father, his head hung low as he held his injured arm. Lo'ak stood still by his ikran, nervous for what's to come. How ironic.
"You're supposed to be spotters. You spot bogeys, and you call 'em in," Jake scolded furiously, his eyes dancing between them. "From a distance!" he emphasised. "Does any of this sound familiar? Get here!"
Lo'ak obeyed and stood beside his brother, ashamed. Veronica observed her youngest sons' back before she went to Neteyam who was injured. She clicked her tongue gently as she surveyed his injuries. There were numerous scratches on his back, but some cut deeper than the others. Kiri rushed to her side once she saw the condition her brother was in.
"Jesus. I let you two geniuses fly a mission, and you disobey direct orders." Jake sighed, "Kiri, can you go help your grandmother with the wounded? Please?"
"My brother is wounded," she pointed out.
"Baby girl, please. Tuk, go with her. Go."
Kiri sighed as she shook her head, walking away with Tuk.
"Dad– sir. I take full responsibility," said Neteyam, his head hung low still.
"Yeah, you do. That's right. 'Cause you're the older brother, you gotta act like it."
Neytiri gave her husband a pointed look. "MaJake. Your son is actually bleeding."
Neteyam shook his head. "Mother, it's fine. I-"
"No, it's not," Veronica cut him off. She looked at Jake with an arched eyebrow.
His gaze shifted between Neteyam's face and his injured body. For a moment, his anger diminished. "Just go and get patched up. Go on, dismissed."
"Come," she whispered for the young boy to hear. Her hand held his bicep as they walked past Jake. She shot Jake a knowing look before walking further, passing by warriors who were getting situated.
They walked in silence, and Neteyam was not sure if it was comfortable or not. He hadn't experienced getting a scolding from his mom, it would either be from his mother or father. Usually Jake on rare occurrences.
Neteyam pursed his lips. "Mom," he called weakly.
"How many times did you save your brothers back?" she asked softly.
He stayed silent.
"I know you are doing your job as the older brother, and you are doing it really well. But, a time will come when Lo'ak will have to grow too. He has to learn how to own up to his mistakes." Veronica held his shoulders, stopping him from entering the Tsahik's hut. She moved in front of him, cupping his cheek gently and made him look at her. "You do not have to try so hard. You are just a kid."
Neteyam's eyes widened, his eyes turning glossy. He wasn't so sure why his chest started to hurt. Maybe it was because his hard work was being acknowledged, or maybe it was because someone saw that he was trying. Couldn't his dad see that too?
As Veronica patted his cheek gently, she smiled, "Go on. I'll be right with you."
The boy only nodded, he feared that if he tried to speak, his voice would crack and tears would start spilling from his eyes. Her eyes searched for Lo'ak through the crowd and spotted him with the ikrans, removing the saddles. The upset look on his face made her sigh.
Mo'at crouched behind Neteyam's back as she applied medicine on his injuries. He would either yelp or hiss at the contact of his wounds. Spider was in the hut too, he would make jokes here and then about how Neteyam was acting like a baby out of it just to make him feel better. Veronica laughed quietly at his words. She was relieved that the tension wasn't there anymore, she didn't know if she could bare it.
Her eyes trailed from Neteyam's back then outside the hut, sensing a presence. She locked gazes with Neytiri before it shifted to Jake's back, busying himself with his gun. Veronica excused herself and told Kiri to take over, approaching Neytiri. The hair at the end of her tail brushed against her wife's thigh as she gave her a peck on the lips.
Neytiri's hand caressed her arm, but her eyes stayed on the boys. Neteyam's grunts of pain could still be heard from where they're standing. He never had injuries like this, never this worse. Her tail swished behind her like something was on her mind.
Jake glanced behind him. He sighed, "What?"
"Neteyam and Lo'ak try to live up to you. It is very hard on them," said Neytiri. She faced her husband expectantly.
"I know." He refused to meet their eyes and focused on the weapon in his hand.
Neytiri kneeled beside him. "You are very hard on them."
Veronica sat beside the other side of Jake to hear their conversation better. Their voices were low to ensure that none of the children heard it.
"I'm their father. It's my job," he pressed.
"This is not a squad. It is a family." Her voice remained soft, and it was enough to break his walls down.
Jake placed his gun on the ground, clenching his fist on his knees. "I thought we'd lost them," he whispered. Tears glossed into his eyes as he looked at the two women, the only people who he could feel vulnerable around with.
It was difficult to stay away from long-term habits. Being a marine meant seeing a lot of difficult situations, he was forced to keep it together and be tough. Seeing his sons affected by the explosion made him lose all of his composure and he didn't know how to deal with it. He was still learning, but everytime he felt like he was getting better, his progress ruins.
Neytiri's expression softened, her eyebrows slightly furrowed as she held his hand. Veronica placed her hand on his thigh, squeezing it gently. No word was said to one another except giving each other comfort. Each parents feared the same thing: losing their child. Parenthood was difficult, but if the three of them were in it together, Jake felt like he will be fine.

[two] [four]
Y/n sat in a cave behind a waterfall, sharpening arrowheads and clearing her mind. Lately, she has been feeling a deep sense of unease. She couldn't place it. It felt like she was waiting for something terrible to happen. Y/n felt like she was standing at the edge of a cliff, the slightest gust of wind would push her over. Due to this unease, y/n could barely sleep. She could feel her body growing cold when she closed her eyes, waves lapping at her feet. She couldn’t breathe. There was great pressure in her chest.
Y/n put her final arrowhead down, letting out a sigh. She needed sleep. Her lack of sleep was making her sloppy, so sloppy that she had almost fallen off of Rìkxi the day before. Closing her eyes, she leaned against the cave wall. She focused on the sounds around her. The rushing water from the waterfall, the small creatures scurrying around and the sound of Rìkxi eating whatever he found on his hunt. Slowly but surely, y/n fell asleep.
All around her was the sound of frantic pops and whistles, along with the sound of water. y/n felt so disorientated. She felt like she couldn’t see. Was it due to all of the commotion? Yells and blaring horns or that she doesn’t recognise her surroundings. With a deep breath, y/n stepped forward, covering her eyes as the sun hit her. She wasn’t sure why, but she took off running. Her legs have a mind of their own.
“Bro, come on.”
“Let’s go.”
Y/n skidded to a stop. She could hear all of these voices, but she was alone.
“Go! Go, go, go!”
“Give me that!”
“This way.”
Y/n’s body jerked forward and she jumped off the platform’s side. She immediately put her hand on the centre of her chest as she hit the water. Suddenly, her body was in searing pain. She felt as though all the air in her lungs was knocked out. Resurfacing, y/n could hear her heart beating frantically in her ears.
“Bro! That was insane, Cuz! Yeah!”
“Skxawng. I’ve been shot.”
Y/n wasn’t sure what she was saying or who she was speaking to. She was struggling to tread the water. Why is this happening? Why am I being lifted? Who am I holding on to?
Water rushed by her legs, and frantic shouts filled the air. Y/n couldn’t focus. She found herself wheezing and struggling to breathe.
“Dad! Help! It’s Neteyam!”
Neteyam?
Y/n felt herself being lifted again and then laid on her back. Waves lapped at her feet, pressure on her chest. Her vision was blurred. Five figures were in her vision, but she couldn’t make out who it was due to the sun setting behind them.
“I want to go home,” she meekly voiced, confused by the words coming out of her mouth.
Her heart started beating rapidly as the corners of her vision darkened and she gasped for air. She could feel her mouth moving, but there was no sound.
Y/n let out a weak breath as her eyes went dark. She could no longer see, but her hearing was clear.
“Neteyam?”
Neteyam?
“No, no, no, no! Neteyam!”
With a cry of the unknown name, y/n’s eyes shot open, a hand flying to her burning chest, her breathing erratic.
What kind of dream was that and who the hell is Neteyam?
“Sister! Are you there?”
Taking a moment to gather herself, a smile crept onto y/n’s lips at her younger brother's voice. The dream being forced to the back of her mind. Stepping out from behind the waterfall, y/n was met with the sight of her brother bouncing on the spot
“What’s happened?” She questioned once she was close.
“You missed it! The watchers have returned! They say that sky people are killing tulkun!” Her brother, Atan, exclaimed.
“Tulkun? So suddenly? Why?.”
“They don’t know. But they say that it may be that rogue one being hunted. I doubt they’ll catch him, though. He’s really strong and brave.” Her brother explained
“Payakan? I wondered where he got to; I hadn’t seen him around in quite some time,” y/n replied, thinking of the tulkun she had become familiar with growing up. Y/n sighed, smiling down at her brother, her chest aching. “Let’s head back. We don’t want to miss dinner.”
Tumblr media
“You’re hurt,” Sya stated to her daughter as she rounded the corner.
“Good morning, mum.” Y/n replied, “I’m not hurt. Good morning, dad.”
Sya’s eyes quickly examined her daughter with her head tilted before stepping forward, which made y/n take a step back.
“You are hurt, here,” Sya poked the centre y/n’s chest, “and here,” poking her back, between her shoulder blades. Noting how her daughter flinched as if a hot blade had touched her skin.
“I’m fine; maybe I slept wrong.”
Sya was about to scold her daughter for thinking lightly of this injury. Knowing that it was much more than just sleeping incorrectly, but a horn bellowed throughout the village, alerting everyone to a new arrival. A hunter poked their head through the family's hut, acknowledging the Tsahik along with the rest of the family
“Sir! An ikran has landed on our shores. Two riders. One seems to be significantly injured. They demand to speak with you. They are not real Na’vi.”
Za’te hastily stood up and exited the hut entrance before turning back and motioning his daughter to follow.
“Y/n come. Consider this training.”
Y/n walked alongside her father as they made their way to a group of villagers huddling around their unexpected guests. As the pair approached, the huddle quietened and separated, allowing the Olo’eyktan and his daughter to see their guests.
One of the Na’vi stepped forward with his head high showing his confidence. Y/n decided he was overly confident. He was tall, but Za’te was taller and more muscular.
“My name is Miles Quaritch; this is Lyle Wainfleet. We are Recom for the RDA, we-.” The overconfident man started but, Za’te cut him off, already having enough of his broken Na’vi.
“Why have you come?” Za’te questioned with a heavy accent.
“You speak English?” Quaritch questioned with amusement, “we are seeking one of our own. A traitor. Jake Sully. He is hiding amongst the reef people.”
“If he is amongst the reef, why have you come here?”
“The stories of your people are legendary amongst the Na’vi. Vicious warriors. Hunters. Trackers. My planet is dying, we came to Pandora to start anew. If my people have any chance of survival, Jake Sully must answer for his crimes. He knows the way we humans fight, and how we plan. He doesn’t know how your people fight. I am asking for your help in defeating an enemy.” Quaritch ended his speech by looking around at the warriors facing them. Although he didn’t show it. He was slightly frightened. If the Island Na’vi didn’t believe him and the stories were true, he and Lyle would be dead before they hit the floor… Again.
Y/n looked past Quaritch to Lyle, who seemed to be visibly on edge but that way be due to the injuries littered over his boy. Making eye contact, Lyle looked away instantly.
“Why should my people help you?”
“I see that your living arrangements are similar to those that used to be on Earth. We have teams that can help you build. Your warrior’s weapons are forged; my people can help you produce better weapons. You speak English, we have people that can teach you, all of you. All of this is available to you if you aid me in finding Jake Sully.”  Quaritch’s speech seemed to appeal to some villagers in the crowd, but y/n knew nothing would come of it. She knew her father had already made up her mind the second he saw these outsiders.
“I know the story of Jake Sully. I know what the sky people want with our lands. You invaded the forest, destroyed homes, and killed the people. Do not think that it is unknown because we live away from the forest. Jake sully bested you many years ago, and it seems that he was able to do so again. You are brave coming here but stupid. My people will not allow the same destruction to fall on our lands as it has the forest and now the reefs. We will not aid you in the hunt for Jake Sully. He is not our enemy. You and your people shouldn’t be here. Jake sully is Na’vi, one of the people.”
By the end of Za’te’s speech, it was clear that Quaritch did not get the expected reply. He took a challenging step towards Za’te but was stopped by the leader of the warriors.
“Take them below the mountain. They do not leave.” Za’te stated bluntly. “Nobody speaks with them without my permission.”
Quaritch hissed at Za’te, who did not react. Y/n watched Lyle stumble away behind him. Sure that she had seen him before.
“What about the Ikran?”
“I’m sure it’ll make itself scarce.”
Tumblr media
Y/n sat in the corner of the family hut, wrapping twine around Atan’s spear while humming a songcord she knew didn’t belong to anyone in her family or on the island. She can’t remember where she heard it, but it has stuck with her for two years.
“Y/n! Y/n! Come quickly!” A familiar voice screamed. “Hurry!”
Y/n shot up and marched out of the hut, her eyes meeting Zu’a, she had been training under Sya to be a healer. As soon as Zu’a spotted the girl she was searching for, she leaped forward, snatching y/n's wrist, dragging her towards the mountain where the less desirable people were kept. When they arrived, y/n immediately spotted her mother rushing around to tend to the injured villagers, her brother close behind.
Shaking her arm free, y/n ran to her father, who looked like he was seconds away from breathing fire.
“Dad! What happened?”
“Y/n.” Za’te took a deep breath to not yell in frustration at his daughter. “Someone took it upon themselves to let those mutants out of their hold. Some of our own are injured. I have sent some warriors to the smaller islands to search for them, but I believe they'll try and return to the forest. If we do not hear any news, I want you to take Rìkxi, watch the skies and hunt them down, even if it means venturing to the forest yourself. No survivors.”
“No survivors,” y/n repeated with a nod of confirmation.
Tumblr media
Flying over the ocean always brought peace to y/n, she didn’t go this far often, so she appreciated every second of it. The weather was lovely today. Not a single cloud in the sky. Y/n and Rìkxi gilded low in the sky. Low enough to see the marine life breach the ocean's surface and skim Rìkxi’s feet. They had been out for a few hours, somewhat directionless. But what was she to do? She didn’t know when or where that Quaritch man would rear his ugly head.
Y/n continued her one-sided conversation with Rìkxi. Talking to him about passing the rites she completed a year prior, about the songcord, and the training with her father to prepare her to take his place. Also, about the conversation she had avoided with the village elders, finding a mate.
Rìkxi backed to the left as a swarm of dorado verde flew in their direction, bringing y/n out of her daze.
The peace y/n felt ended once she noticed the sky starting to darken around them. She urged Rìkxi to climb, hoping that they could get above the clouds before the storm began, but for what seemed like the first time, Rìkxi wasn’t fast enough.
After what seemed like hours of flying blind, y/n finally saw a solid shape on the horizon, Rìkxi must have seen it, too, because he started to descend. Something collided with the armour strapped to Rìkxi’s chest during the descent. The collision was hard enough to knock the pair off course and drop. Y/n wiped her face with the back of her hand, irritated.
“Land Rìkxi!”
Letting out a roar, Rìkxi started to dive and glide over the top of the village, circling around and then landing. Y/n jumped off of her companion, immediately checking him for any injuries. She was aware that whoever resided on this island had started to gather a distance away, but she didn’t care. Rìkxi’s breastplate was damaged, and the broken piece had wedged between his scales. Y/n muttered a quick apology before pulling it out, but he didn’t seem to notice, more concerned with their audience. Y/n felt Rìkxi’s body rumble before he let out a growl. Y/n ran her hand along Rìkxi’s body and under his wing.
“Mawey Rìkxi, mawey. Be nice.”
Y/n’s eyes swept the crowd before seeing a Na’vi she felt familiar with.
“Hello.”
“Hey.” He said back a bit startled, his voice sounding familiar.
Tumblr media
The welcome y/n received from the residents of Awa'atlu did not leave much to be desired. The Olo’eyktan, who introduced himself as Tonowari, had questioned her openly about why she had landed in their village. He wasn’t taking the storm as an excuse.
“Why are you so far from your home?”
Y/n knew that she should’ve said the real reason for her straying away from home, but she couldn’t bring herself to once she made eye contact with the boy she had greeted. It didn’t feel appropriate to say it aloud, in front of the villagers, so she stuck to her story.
The Tsahik, Ronal, stepped through the crowd and instantly stared y/n down. Her eyes locked onto her hands momentarily, and y/n had never been so glad that Rìkxi was breathing over her shoulder. Although y/n did not find the Tsahik intimidating in any way, she felt unnerved by how she was being watched. It felt like she was about to be scolded, like how Sya had done many times before.
“You will stay.” Ronal started. “You and your beast have been injured.”
“We’re fin-.”
“My son, Ao’nung, will show you to a marui.”
Murmurs of disagreement trickled through the crowd as Metkayina villagers listened to Ronal’s demand. The crowd shifted as a tall boy stepped forward. His gaze was just as judgemental as Rona’s, instantly telling y/n that this was Ao’nung.
Pausing momentarily, y/n weighed her options. Ronal was right, Rìkxi had been hurt during the storm and his armour was damaged, so she had to consider him as well. She threw Rìkxi a look that told him to behave before she nodded reluctantly at Ronal.
On their walk to the marui, Ao’nung didn’t turn around once, not that y/n cared. Since arriving,  her chest had been burning, the same burn she had felt under the waterfall two years ago. Stopping before the marui, Ao’nung motioned y/n inside, but she didn’t budge. He mentioned again, a frown appearing. Y/n shook her head, crossing her arms.
“What?” Ao’nung questioned with a disgruntled sigh.
“Tell your people not to go near Rìkxi.”
“Do you think we are stupid?”
Y/n ignored the question, uncrossing her arms and turning towards the marui.
“Nice tattoos,” y/n commented, motioning to Ao’nung’s face and shoulder.
“Thanks.” He replied flatly before walking off.
Y/n sat down in the corner of the marui and closed her eyes. Suddenly feeling exhausted. After eclipse, she’ll go back and get Rìkxi comfortable. Who knows how long they’ll be here? Will she stay in Awa'atlu until Quaritch and Lyle are found or until she has ‘healed’?
Tumblr media
Eclipse came quickly, and as soon as it did, y/n was returning to her Rìkxi. On the way, y/n passed a few villagers who jumped out of the way when they saw her coming, whispering. Once she was close enough to the part of the beach she landed on, y/n noticed someone standing there, watching Rìkxi from a distance. Did she not tell Ao'nung to ensure his people don't go near Rìkxi? Y/n crept up behind them, leaning down to whisper in his ear.
"You're lucky he hasn't eaten you yet."
The person jumped, braids flying as they spun around. Facing her was the familiar boy from the beach.
"You're taller up close." He stated, ignoring her previous statement.
"I get that a lot," y/n responded, putting weight on her left leg and a hand on her hip. "Why are you here? Did Ao'nung not tell you?"
"I was curious. I've never seen anything like it before. He's different." The boy sounded passionate before rolling his eyes. "I don't listen to Ao'nung."
"Clearly," y/n muttered under her breath. "But I suppose he is different. And dangerous."
"I can handle dangerous."
"I can see that. Excuse me."
Y/n walked around the boy, back to the task at hand. She could tell the boy was itching to follow but decided against it. Instead, sitting on a large rock. Approaching her companion, y/n put her hand on his face. "Looks like we'll be here for a while." Getting a puff of warm air in her face as a response.
Y/n quickly unloaded her weapons, removing Rìkxi's breastplate and saddle and trying to lower it all onto the sand below gently. Y/n stapped her spear to her back, attaching her knife to her hip. Looking at her sheathed machete and Rìkxi's belongings, how was she going to carry all of this?
Looking up, y/n saw the unnamed boy sitting on the rock.
"Hey!" She yelled; stray villagers looked at her, as did the boy. She waved her hand, motioning him forward. He pointed at himself and shook his head. She nodded and motioned him again. He slowly stood up and shuffled forward, not taking his eyes off Rìkxi.
"Oh, now you're afraid?" Y/n joked when he finally stood in front of her.
"You said he'd eat me." He replied, eyes meeting hers briefly before looking back at Rìkxi, who had shifted, now looking at the pair.
"I didn't say that. I said you're lucky he hasn't."
A slight grin appeared on the boy's face.
"Wanna help me carry this?"
The boy nodded, y/n held the machete up to the boy, and he swiftly placed it on his back. The pair carefully lifted the breastplate and saddle, the boy grunted and muttered about how heavy it was. With several complaints, they got back to y/n's temporary marui. The boy leaned the machete against the saddle, groaning, shaking his arms and stretching his arms above his head.
"Never again."
Y/n smiled at the dramatics; being with the boy reminded her of being with Atan. The burning in her chest eased in his company.
"I'm Lo'ak, by the way."
"Y/n."
Just as Lo'ak was to speak again, a Metkayina girl peeked her head in the entryway. A sweet smile on her face.
"There you are, Rotxo said he saw you." She stepped in slowly, a basket of fruit on her hip. "These are for you. I'm Tsireya."
"Rotxo's back?"
Tsireya gave Lo'ak a look that said 'seriously' before facing y/n again.
"Nice to meet you, Tsireya."
"Was it nice to meet me too?" Lo'ak questioned.
Now it was y/n's turn to give him a look.

A Lover, Not a Fighter
The day your world was flipped upside down had started off normally.
Jake and Neytiri had gone on a scouting mission, flying high above the clouds on their ikrans. Neteyam had accompanied them, and your other three children, and Spider, had gone on some sort of adventure. Hopefully not too far away. Hopefully within their boundaries.
That left you alone at home, alone, but you didn’t mind because it gave you time to work on some healing pastes Mo’at had asked you to make. You had been working with her since you were young, Neytiri right by your side.
Neytiri had been your best friend since as far back as you could remember. She had always been by your side, going on enthralling adventures, and comforting each other when needed. You had known you loved her since the day you met her, a void in your heart, longing for love, would fill when she was around.
Jake had been an afterthought, but since Neytiri liked him, and she loved you, you were forced to interact with the strange man. You wouldn't necessarily describe him as strange now, but when you had first met he was. He didn’t speak any Na’vi, and you didn’t speak any English, so you really had no way to communicate, but you bonded over your shared love of Neytiri.
Now you three were inseparable, it was like you were always meant to be, and once you were all mated Mo’at had confessed to you that Eywa had sent her a vision of a strange man coming and taking her daughter’s heart. She always knew of your love for her daughter, and was worried about your well being because she never could have predicted he would pull you into it.
When you had heard Neytiri was pregnant for the first time you hadn’t necessarily been shocked, but there was an element of surprise. You knew you had all discussed wanting children, but you had also discussed you being the first to have a baby. Nonetheless you were very excited, you all were.
Neteyam had come into the world a shining star amongst a sea of dull people. He had been your pride and joy. He was the first, and you felt bad that eventually Jake’s responsibilities would fall on his shoulders, but he was strong, and you knew he would be able to handle it.
Shortly after Neteyam, Kiri had been born from the avatar of Jake’s friend. Neytiri had known her too, but you had hesitantly kept your distance from the alien woman. You wish you had been closer to her now so you could share stories about her with Kiri.
Kiri was your first baby girl, and something in you awakened. You loved your son, still do, but there was something so special about having a baby girl. You always knew you wanted a daughter, but it was better than you could have imagined.
Lo’ak was Neytiri’s other son. He had always been a troublemaker since the day he was born. He refused to sleep more than five hours at a time, and would cry whenever he was awake, which meant nobody got very much rest. Even through his frustrating newborn stage you loved him. You always will.
Tuk, sweet Tuk, she was yours. She was your first and only baby, and you wouldn’t have it any other way. She had been your perfect little baby, much the opposite of Lo’ak. She was your sun, and you the planet orbiting it. You would do anything to make her happy, anything to keep her from crying.
As you crushed some seeds for the paste you were working on at the moment you couldn't help but wonder what the children were doing, mainly the three that had left after your partners and oldest had.
As you were drifting in and out of thoughts you were brought back to the present when your earpiece crackled to life, Lo’ak speaking, “Devil Dog, Devil Dog, this is Eagle Eye, over.” you tried to calm yourself, convince yourself nothing was wrong, but you knew if Lo’ak was calling in on an adventure then something had to be wrong.
Then Jake spoke, voice calm, steady, “Eagle Eye, send your traffic.” You knew he was anything but calm though, you could feel his stress.
Lo’ak hesitated before speaking, “I got eyes on some guys. They look like avatars, but they’re in full camo and carrying ARs. There’s six of them. Over”
You took a harsh breath in, your heart stopping for a beat, before speeding up. You calmed when you heard Jake again, voice still steady, “What’s your pos? Over.”
Lo’ak sighed, “We’re at the old shack.” You couldn’t help but cringe as you knew your son was as well.
“Who’s we?” Jake asked, now you could tell he was really panicking, and you were too as you remembered who all had gone with Lo’ak.
“Me, Spider, Kiri…”Lo’ak paused, “and Tuk.” You said with him, sighing and placing your face in your hands.
Jake was no longer panicking, an angry tone taking over his voice, but you knew it was because he was more than worried, he was terrified, “Son, you listen to me very carefully. You pull back right now. Do not make a sound. You get the hell out of there. Move! You copy?”
“Yes, sir, moving out.” Lo’ak sounded deathly serious, but you knew he was trying to hide his fear.”
Then there was silence from your son, silence from your husband, and you radioed in, “I’m on my way.”
Jake sighed, “No, stay there. Get healing stuff ready, me and Neytiri will deal with this.” He instructed you.
You knew you couldn’t argue with him, you wouldn’t be much of a help anyway, so you just said, “Be safe, I love you.”
Jake responded, “Love you too, we’ll be home soon.” He reassured you.
You are a healer in the clan, not a fighter, not a hunter, not a warrior. So it made sense Jake instructed you to stay home, ready to heal any injuries your family sustained.
You had always chosen peace when it was an option in the past, and you always will in the future.
You anxiously waited in your home. Chewing your nails was a bad habit you had while under pressure, but you couldn’t force yourself to stop the self soothing activity.
You try to busy yourself, running around your home gathering anything you might need for injuries, even visiting Mo’at’s tent to gather a few things, staying silent so as to not let the woman know something was wrong. There was no way she didn’t know though.
When there was nothing left to do you sat in your hammock, swaying slightly, trying to calm yourself. You hadn’t heard anything on the coms since your son called in for help, and that made you feel even worse, going back to chewing on your nails.
Then something pulled you out of your thoughts, “Mama!’ Tuk shouted.
Your family was home, and your head shot up counting all four children, everyone was okay, and no serious injuries, just little scratches and cuts.
You held your arms open and Tuk immediately ran into your arms, you giving her a crushing hug, “Oh, my little Tuk Tuk, you’re okay!”
“I’m okay.” Tuk muttered, and that was enough to calm you alongside seeing everyone else was okay.
You loosened your hug, but still held Tuk, “You’re all okay, thank Eywa!” It was like you were trying to convince yourself that everyone was okay, but as you looked around at everyone it was true, you knew they were okay.
You took one more look around. Your family was there, but someone was missing, “Where is Spider?” you worried.
You knew something must have happened when tears welled in Kiri’s eyes before she burst out in tears, “They took him! Mama he’s gone!”
You let go of Tuk, standing up and walking to your distressed daughter, “Oh my sweet girl, he will be okay. He has a strong heart, nobody will break him.”
You sat everyone down, even your wife and husband, looking them over for any wounds you may have missed. Luckily you hadn’t missed any. You pulled out what you would need and started with Tuk, being as gentle as possible.
Then you turned to address the older two that were there, but mostly Lo’ak, “You are all lucky you aren’t more hurt… Think, and make better decisions in the future.” You warned them.
By the time you were done tending to everyone it was getting dark. Neytiri and you made dinner which everyone ate in silence, even Tuk. It was odd how quiet it was, but everyone must be exhausted. You could see Lo’ak’s head spinning, thoughts running around in there. You wanted to talk it out with him, but you decided to leave it alone for tonight, to let him gather his thoughts first.
When it was bedtime the children were already half asleep as you, Jake, and Neytiri were on high alert, all worried about Quaritch storming into your home, disguised in a blue body much like your own. He could walk in right under Eywa’s nose and kill you all.
You were consumed in your thoughts until Tuk spoke quietly, her voice laced with exhaustion, “Mama, will you sing us a lullaby?”
You sat there, waiting for someone to protest so you could tease them, but no complaint came from Lo’ak, no eye roll from Kiri, and no sigh from Neteyam like usual.
You sighed then, “Of course.” You held your arms out like you had to Tuk earlier, “Whoever wants to, come join me in the hammock.”
You only expected Tuk to join you as the other three see themselves as too old to cuddle with their mother anymore, but to your surprise Lo’ak was the first to scurry over to you. Kiri and Tuk were second there, after Kiri picked up a sleepy Tuk to carry her over.
You could see Neteyam hesitate but you gave him a soft smile and watched him melt as he drug himself over and laid down next to Kiri who was on your left side. Lo’ak had settled on your right, and Tuk laid right on top of you, her head on your chest.
You smiled over at Jake, ”This is one your father taught me.”
As you began to sing your eyes drifted shut, focusing on the love surrounding you and the song you were singing,
“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away.
The other night, dear, as I lay sleeping,
I dreamt I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken,
So I hung my head, and I cried.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away.
I'll always love you and make you happy,
If you will only say the same.
But if you leave me to love another,
You'll regret it all one day.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine,
You make me happy when skies are grey.
You’ll never know, dear, how much I love you,
Please don't take my sunshine away.
Please don't take my sunshine away.”
You could feel Kiri’s breathing steady pretty much immediately, and soon after she was out so was Lo’ak. Neteyam struggled a little more to fall asleep but he eventually beat the battle of staying awake.
Surprisingly Tuk was the last one awake, but you could tell she wasn’t far from falling asleep like the others as she muttered, “Good night. I love you.”
You smiled fondly, responding, “Love you too baby.”
Jake and Neytiri were now the only ones left awake, and they whispered to each other, admiring you as you calmed the children so easily. You were always a lover, not a fighter, and you channeled all of your love into your children, which Jake and Neytiri were grateful for. They love you, and will forever.

Read below the cut
Many Na’vi died following Toruk Macto. Either due to the impact of the battlefield violence or, their wounds upon return to their clan. Your parents, two brave Omatikaya warriors, died at the hands of the Sky People during a routine raid on supply shipments.
Jake and Neytiri were quick to take you under their care, love and protection. Practically becoming one of their own. Being a few months younger than Neteyam and a year older than the twins, Kiri and Lo’ak, you slipped right in.
Jake was never afraid to reprimand you like you were his own, either. Like the time you were twelve, Lo’ak eleven:
“Now what did I tell you two?” Jake had you and Lo’ak lined up against the wall of the clan stronghold, sprung by the Olo’eyktan from the moment you came sneaking back in after curfew.
“Don’t be in the forest after eclipse-” You and Lo’ak mumbled under your breaths, knowing that Jake wouldn’t let up.
“Yes! That’s right, don’t be in the forest after eclipse!” he said, exasperated, holding his hands above his head, dragging them down across his face. “And where were you two knuckleheads?” His face was annoyed, though his eyes were soft. We were his kids, god forbid anything happened to us.
“Look dad (y/n) had nothing to do with it, it was all me-” Lo’ak started, but you finished,
“Sir, Lo’ak didn’t want to go, I wanted to go.” You and Lo’ak shared a small smile, he was your brother, through and through.
Jake shook his head, hands on hips.
“Go, go, both of you. Wash up.” He was stern, but as you two skxawngs ran past him you saw the gentle smile lay on his lips.
As you got older you noticed Jake becoming harder and harder on his boys. For whatever reason Lo’ak almost gave up on pleasing Jake, felt like he could never be enough for him, a spec of dust compared to Neteyam’s glittering gold. Maybe that was why, why he was so impulsive and reckless, consistently. Any attention being good attention for Lo’ak. Regardless of his intentions, you liked that about him. He encourages your sense of adventure like a brother should, was always there to catch you when you fall. Neteyam and Lo’ak were different sides of the same coin, both living to please Jake in one way or another. Jake saw himself in Lo’ak and that scared him, you knew that,
But Neteyam…shit, Neteyam.
You always saw Neteyam differently. As kids, he felt too cool for you to be around. This developed over time as you, yourself developed. As you felt awkward and out of place in your body, tail giving away every thought and feeling, Neteyam got taller, got broader, got sweeter. As an awkward teenager, your little soft spot evolved into a full-blown crush. You kept it under wraps sure, Lo’ak teasing you here and there but he never thought anything serious of it. Shit, you tried not to think anything of it. He was the future Olo’eyktan, he was the future of the clan.
Now, freshly eighteen you were considered a woman: A relatively fierce Ikran rider, bow made from wood of the tree to replace the Hometree that was lost to the Sky People, a hunter. You surpassed any ritual trail of clan-life easily, save for one. Save for probably the most important one.
Finding a mate.
So, here you were, kneeling on the beautiful deep green moss surrounding the base of the Tree of Voices. The tree was glowing purple, fading to a light pink and back again, streaks of white travelled up and down the tendril of the tree, where you’ve made the bond. The hum of the ancestors created a white noise in you mind, helping to create a true vision. Praying to Eywa always gave you a sense of calm, like all anxieties were being blown right through your body, energy settling itself back into the world.
“My dear All-Mother Eywa, I come to you now for guidance, for advice.” You started, clamping your eyes shut to encourage any kind of vision, so that you may see into the realm beyond that of physical sight.
Neteyam knew it was wrong, to listen to your private prayers with Eywa. But he did not make a move to leave his advantageous spot, hidden amongst trees and rocks, he could watch you freely. His whole life felt like it revolved around you, and your alluring presence, strong heart, strong mind.
Neteyam officially became a man the year prior, it was expected of him as the future clan leader to have already chosen a woman. And, in some ways he had. It had always been you, it was always you. Neteyam loved you, and it was never as a sister as Lo’ak has. When you were children you would play family. Neteyam was the dad, you the mum, Kiri and Lo’ak the kids. Neteyam knew from a young age that he didn’t want to play family with anyone else.
He assumed Neytiri always knew, too. She never pressured him in claiming a mate, or even talking about it. Jake, well he was less switched on when it came to Neteyam’s shy nature. He was always pestering Neteyam about it-
Jake had flown Neteyam and himself to a floating mountain so that him and his first born son could speak freely: “Look, I’m not even saying you have to mate straight away! But at least court someone Neteyam, you’re the future of this clan-” Jake started, but for the first and last time in his life, Neteyam cut his father off.
“I am waiting for (y/n)!” Neteyam yelled, holding the bridge of his nose, anticipating that Jake would come back with a raised voice as he most often did. It did not come. Instead Jake closed the distance between him and his son, wrapping his arms around his beautiful baby boy, who wasn’t a baby anymore. Neteyam loosened, wrapping his still lanky arms around his father. With his chin resting on Neteyam’s head, Jake chuckled:
“Well then, wait for her as long as you need.”
“I love her.” Neteyam admitted quietly.
“I know you do, kid.”
Neteyam shook the memory from his mind, and focused back on your kneeling, praying figure in front of him.
“My mother Eywa, what am I to do?” You felt exasperated, lost. “I… I am afraid that the one I love does not love me Eywa.”
Neteyam’s chest tightened, although he always knew it was a possibility that you may not want him, he tried his hardest swaying anyone else’s decision in the matter. The glares he had sent to all the young na’vi during their teen years, and at your own ceremony of womanhood, Neteyam made it clear with growls and possessive hovering that he was waiting for you. Although, maybe he could’ve made it clearer to you.
“Great Eywa please, please show me a sign that Neteyam and I will be named mates.” you whispered, scared to admit his name in the scenario, aloud.
Neteyam felt like he could vomit. He slowly approached you, kneeling beside you, as if he were beginning to pray, himself.
You could feel his heat, his being as he sat down, you didn’t need to open your eyes to confirm. Besides that, you could feel all the blood drain from your body and rush back up to your cheeks and ears. Clearing your throat, you decided that this was a good a sign as any.
“Neteyam” You opened your eyes, his beautiful warm honey ones already locked on your face, “how much of that did you hear?”
Neteyam hung his head in shame, shaking some of his braids from their resting places, blood rushing to his cheeks.
“I am so sorry, I know I shouldn’t have listened to your private words spoken with Eywa.” Neteyam spoke softly, like he always did with you. “But I could not help it, especially knowing you have not chosen a mate yet.” Neteyam spoke around a lump in his throat, “I needed to know why.”
Your mind was rushing a million miles per minute. But fake bravado was something that Lo’ak taught you, and something you could hide behind.
“You know, you haven’t chosen anyone either. My ceremony was last week, yours was last year.” You said, catching his eye again, with a slight smile on your lips. Neteyam laughed. Shit, you loved that sound. You could die happy now, hearing his laugh.
“I have chosen,” your stomach dropped at his words, though sensing your anxiety Neteyam wove one of his hands with yours, and pinned you to the spot with his warm eyes. “I just had to wait a year for her to choose me too.”
And all at once it felt like Eywa had breathed life into you, and Neteyam. Like your soul was made of milk and honey and you were going to flow on forever.
You kissed him, your hands cupped his beautiful face, his slender fingers settling on your waist, nestling between beads and cloth.
He came out of the kiss laughing, needing air. You let out a laugh too, keeping your foreheads together.
“I see you.” You whispered, still scared that if you speak too loud this dream will dissipate into the colours of Pandora’s jungle, floating away from you entirely.
“I have only ever seen you,” Neteyam said, smiling. His silver freckles set alight from the glow of the Tree of Voices.
Happiness was simple.

NETEYAM X READER
Golden child
Tumblr media
———————————————————————
Growing up in the omaticaya clan, the people recognized the spark you had, a passionate flame that burned in your heart. Strong, leading. Everybody knew that you would be someone great, and that’s exactly what you were. You always aimed for the top, always made 1st place, always tried your hardest at everything you did.
And alongside you, the oldest son of Jake sully, neteyam.
The two of you were fairly close in age, you being only a few months younger, and when your parents died, and were given back to eywa, jake felt the responsibility of taking you in, they were in his war party, and you reminded him so much of himself. And Neytiri always wanted a daughter, so you became a sully.
And so it begun. With the two of you, everything had to be a competition. You got your ikran? Neteyam gets his a day later. You catch a fish while hunting? Neteyam catches 7. You can eat 2 fish? Neteyam can at 3. Every waking hour the two of you lived was spent staring at eachother, waiting to beat the other. THe only thing you had above him, was that you were in the war party, and he always on lookout.
“Did you get hurt while on your mission? I guess the sky people are getting too strong for you.” he spoke, noticing the cut on your cheek, the both of you knew he was joking. He pressed a piece of cloth against your cheek, sending a smirk. You just narrowed your eyes, chuckling.
“Being that i was able to come within 10 feet of one, im not worried. How was your little tree a mile away from our spot? Was it nice and warm?” you taunted right back at him, laughing at how his smirk fell. This was such a common interactionbetween the two of you, in which neither of you took it seriously.
Even so, you and neteyam were kind of forced to grow a bond, being that 90% of your time was spent trying to outdo the other. The two of you didnt really know why it was the way it was between you two, maybe the validation you got from jake in being the oldest sibling, or the golden child, who could protect the family. Both of you kindled the same flame, and it made both of you stronger.
So naturally, when the two of you both moved to the metkayina tribes together, along with the rest o the sully family, and learned that you would have to learn the ways of water… It became a rivalry. Who could pick it up faster. Who’s ilu was bigger, who could stay underwater for longer, who could stay out of trouble longer.
ANd to your great surprise, neteyam found himself winning at everything. He was just so fast in adjusting to the world around, he could ride on an ilu within the first days of trying, automatically he was able to understand the breathing techniques of the metkayina clan, he made it look. So . easy.
But you? You couldnt, you didnt even know why it was so hard, tuk even got it within a month. You could barely swim, holding your breath was harder than fighting a sky person in one of those suits, and you just couldnt bond with the nature around, even if it was beautiful. You tried your hardest, practicing for hours longer than you had to, almost feinting from exhaustion every night. But still, things didnt get better like they usually did.
And it tore you apart, youd never not been good at something, even if it was hard at first, you ALWAYS got better at it. That was why this was just so strange for you, so overwhelming to the point that it made you want to rip your hair out. You just couldnt comprehend how he was just so good at everything, that was your job, it's not fun to compete when you arent good at it.
So as a few months past, your agitation grew, and your patience shrunk. Things werent getting better, even Lo-ak was picking things up faster than you, and he never did that. And trust me, everybody noticed, you became snappy, talking back to your dad, refusing to hang out with tuk most of the time, and you even yelled at anuong twice for teasing you. Eventually, jake stopped complimenting you like he did in the forests, and that hurt more than anything else could. Even if it was unintentional.
Eventually, when it all became too much for you to handle anymore, you asked for help. And who else to ask but the one guy you knew had to help you. Neteyam, he had to miss your daily little competitions, so he needed you to get better at… everything.
“Neteyam?” you approached him when the two of you were alone, he was cleaning the saddles of his ilu, which generally was an easy task, actually it was quite calming, so you assumed he would be easier to talk to now.
“Yeah?”
“I- im having trouble-i need you to- could you- um-” you spluttered, you were not known to be shy. Ever. This place is changing too much about you, and you hate it. The only person youd ever really felt comfortable asking for help from was jake, and even then that was only in dire situations. You just didnt know how to do it without feeling weak, feeling inferior.
“Oh? Is somebody trying to ask me for help?” A smirk splayed on his face as he side eyed you, placing the ilu saddle down, he crossed his arms, and stared at you in the same way neytiri would when she would watch you do something stupid. It was condescending. You wanted to punch him in the face.
“Y-yes, I am” his stare sent you into an internal rabbit hole, it was unrelenting, and you could tell exactly what he was thinking. That you were becoming weak. That he finally beat you at something.
“Say it.”
“Really?” You crossed your arms and stared at the boy. He had to be out of his mind to think you would go that low for him to- oh. You were going that low.
“Say. It.”
“Neteyam, please help me”
“Oh wow. What happened to the girl who restled a thanator? Is everybodys favorite Sully losing her spark?” he joked, setting a hand on your shoulder and tilting his head with a smirk. He wasnt serious, the two of you always teased eachother, which was most of the time mean comments, but it never was serious. But at this point, the nights you spent trying to swim instead of sleeping caught up, and your comprehension had ceased to work. Imagine neteyams surprise when his lighthearted joke made your lip start to wobble, and your eyes start to gloss over.
“Yeah- i think i am.” and with those words, your shoulders started shaking, and in a few seconds you dropped to your knees, and were crying like tuk does when she gets hurt. Large sobs racked your chest, and you brought your hands up to your eyes, shielding yourself from the embarrassment that you knew would come with crying in front of the boy that you constantly competed against.
You’d never felt so fucking incompetent before, like you couldn’t contribute anything to the table anymore. It made you want to kill everybody within a ten mile radius.
Immediately when neteyam realized that you were serious, and that this wasnt something you and loak were pranking him with, he also fell onto his knees, and wrapped an arm around your shoulder, pulling you close to him. His hand found it's way to your face, and he pushed the curtain of hair away from your eyes, pulling your hands away your hands.
“No- no don't cry y/n. I Didnt mean it, youre perfect- It was a joke i promise” He spluttered out in any attempts to console you, his eyes met your own, and he just stared. The both of you had experience in consoling younger crying siblings, but it never was you. He didnt think hed ever seen you cry before. It’s like all of his instincts froze up, and he had absolutely no idea what to do.
“Thats the thing Nete. I think youre right- I cant do anything anymore- breathing is hard for me- And dad doesnt look at me like he used to anymore- I just- i don't know what im doing wrong” you squinted your eyes and sniffled, you were just so tired, and overwhelmed. And so fucking done. You wanted to go home, back to what was normal, back where you could function like a person.
“Ma we y/n. Ma we. Y/n, you are the youngest to ever be in the omaticaya war party. Your name is known across pandora, you’ve surpassed the limits of eywa. You are nothing but elite-” he shifted in front of you and placed of his hands on the sides of your face. It forced you to look him in the eyes, and listen to what he was saying.
“Shes gone though- I cant hunt like they do. I am not a warrior of the sea. I can do nothing now. And youre just- you can do everything I can’t” the more you talked, the harder you made it for yourself to stop crying. All of the emotion, all of the anger, the grief, the aggravation, just crumbled. Along with that stupid golden child complex of yours.
“Y/n. Shut up. You are so amazing to me it hurts. The only reason you feel like this is because for the first time, you can’t do something. But that’s okay. I’m here. I see you.” He pressed his forehead to your own, wiping the tears that left your eyes with his thumb. You closed your eyes, and let him embrace you. This was strange, weakened wasn’t something either of you were very keen on showing, especially with him, especially not when it made you feel like this. Like neteyam was more than a rival.
“You promise?”
“Of course. ”
The two of you sat there for a moment, foreheads pressed closely, his hand on your shoulder and your face, comforting you with touch, rubbing circles into your back and wiping tears away. You could feel his breath, his heartbeat. And that alone was able to calm you down. Just him.
Just neteyam.
“I’m sorry- I know this is stupid I just didn’t know who else to ask and I thought you-“ it only took you a few seconds to realize the intimacy of the situation, him holding you, pressed up against your face, if anybody were to see you your parents would throw a fit. Your cheeks flushed a deeper shade of purple-y blue, and you stood up, breaking the locked eyes you had with the boy. He just chuckled.
“Does this mean I win?“ he let out the same giggle tuk might have when you went to throw the ilu saddle at him. Which eventually turned into him tackling you into the water. The two of you laughed, pretending to forget whatever just happened, whatever step the two of you just took in your relationship, trying to avoid whatever feelings both of you were most certainly having all of a sudden.
“Oh shut up”
———
*Bonus*
Anuong And loak watch your two figures from a farther away peer, they had been training when they caught eyes of the two golden silly’s getting a little too close for comfort. Immediately lo-ak was cackling at how stressed neteyam looked being so close to you.
“Let’s make a bet, loser has to do the others chores for a month” anuong spoke, staring at the two of you with intent. Lo-ak raised an eyebrow and smiled, it was so funny, he’d always been able to see it. The two of you were head over heels, you just couldn’t see it.
“I’d give it a week before they’re on top of eachother like mates” he answered, leaning over the edge of the peer and watching the two of press together. He couldn’t blame his brother for being so in love with you , you were amazing. Doesn’t mean he wouldn’t use your relationship to his advantage.
“You’re on, fish lips.”

I was never there.
2.9k words woozwes, might b a little rushed my bad.
Tumblr media
sully family x son/brother (m) reader
Being the middle child, the third oldest of the Toruk Makto and the neytiri, the great warrior. While neteyam carried the burden of being the responsible one, lo’aks burden was trying to live up to his brother's name, kiris was being an outcast and yours? No one seemed to remember you. neteyam’s least reckless sibling, lo’aks quiet voiced brother, kiri’s tag along brother, tuk’s babysitter. A no one in a family of great, a shame really, you couldn't do much. Was pretty average in everything, not standing out. If there was a crowd your own father couldn't find you. Being left out in everything, the family went on a picnic? Oh, you were sleeping. The siblings had support from neytiri and jake. You? They were too busy, you had to tame an ikran by yourself. You had taught yourself to braid your hair. You were all alone, alone in such a big family, the family of the tribe. You weren't sad when you were told that the family had to leave and find a new home. Your kind of happy, you could rebrand yourself. Maybe, and just maybe, make a name for yourself.
You were behind your family on your way to the reef clan, the metkayinan tribe. You head looking down letting your father do the convincing, suddenly your hand was being lifted in the air, showcasing to the clan members. Ronal the tsahìk yelled “they aren't even true na’vi! They have demon blood!” you looked at her at surprise then looked at tonowari, the leader. Your father quickly intervened, “look, look” he brought up his hands showing the same hands as y/n. 5 fingers, instead of 4. She let go of your hand and went to talk to her mate. After being settled in and setting up where you would sleep. Far from where your family was, the closest bed to you was neteyams. You quickly laid down and brought your knees as close as they would go to your head, fetal position. Wishing your hardest that if you took up less space that you could just disappear completely.  You woke up early and a few rays of sunshine hitted the island, you prepared breakfast for your family. Before anyone could wake you swiftly were curled up back into a ball. Your family normally thought you were sleeping so they didn't want to burden you, or that's what you hoped that was the case.
The first to wake was lo’ak he mindlessly poured some food onto a clam shell and ate two plates. Jake and tuk wake up, following neytiri and neteyam. All laughing and eating. “Who warmed this up?” Neytiri's voice was a little raspy from just waking up. “n/n did! I saw!” tuk’s bubbly voice awoke you from sleeping-but-not-really-asleep. She crawled up by y/n and hugged him, “wake up y/n~” her voice sang your name. Quickly waking up and sitting up, careful not to drop tuk. “What?” you were trying to wipe away his sleeplessness. “Thanks for breakfast.” your mother yelled, y/n slowly nodded to her. “Come one tuk let's eat” tuk yanked the boy up from his bead and ran by the family. But before you could even serve yourself something to eat, tsireya came to gather the kids to start lessons.
Soon meeting with Aonung and Roxto by the shore. They didn't seem happy to see your sibling but neither the sullys were. After a couple silent moments they reef na’vi dived in with everyone quickly following. While your brothers and baby sister, neteyam, lo’ak and tuk needed to resurface for air, you and kiri easily got the hang of it. While she was busy looking at the animals, you ventured trying to look for a place to hide from the others. You found an underwater cave, it had an air pocket inside of it, the roof of the cave being covered in crystals, the water reflected the light of the beautiful gems. You were awestruck with its beauty. You laid down and for some reason went into a deep slumber. The sea provides soothing background noises.
Waking up slowly, you got up and started to stretch, some popping noises coming from your bones. You dived into the ocean, swimming back by the shore you saw kiri. You kept swimming, you took notice of some of Aonung and Roxto's friends circle around her. You weren't sure what was happening until lo’ak and neteyam were there defending kiri. You hurried to make sure they were okay before you heard roxto call your siblings freaks. You were behind roxto, pulling his hair you blew a quick punch to his face. One of his friends grabbed your tail and dragged you off of him. You older brother, lo’ak, quickly grabbed your assailant's ear. You kicked someone who was trying to grab your foot, you were too busy with whoever you were punching to notice neteyam joining the fight. After what seemed like 30 minutes, both sides got tired, the reef na’vi were the first to retreat.  You were worse than neteyam and lo’ak, scratches by your ankles and littered around your back,  a black eye on your left eye, you had a long scratch that started by the base of your tail and stopped halfway down your tail. It was bleeding more than the other ones.
While walking back to your marui, you were in the back, as always. Jake instantly took notice of your older brothers, you walked by, he didn't notice you at all. You sat down and asked your mom to give you some aloe and some leaf wraps. She thought you were going to bandage your brothers up, well until she saw your black eye. “y/n! You got into the fight?!” your mother shouted at you. You nodded, Your father quickly laid onto neteyam. “You even got y/n into the fight? What the hell neteyam!” “im sorry sir-” neteyam was cut off by y/n own voice. “For the love of eywa! I threw the first punch. It was my fault.” you seethed through your teeth, trying to not wince when putting the gel onto your tail. “I'll apologize tomorrow.” your voice was more relaxed, after putting on a leaf wrap. “Yeah I'll go with him too!” lo’ak was trying to save face for himself. “First Thing. Tomorrow.” Jake basically growling towards y/n and lo’ak. When lo’ak and neteyam looked at y/n. He put his hand to his chest and widened his eyes. The brother silently laughed at his antics.
Me and lo’ak had to go apologize to roxto and whoever. The brother slowly stopped by Aonung, Roxto and his friends. “We are sorry.” y/n looked at roxto, specifically at the bruise on his jaw. “So sorry, that i hitted you.. So many times” i chuckled at lo’ak’s “apology” They all looked at each other before grinning at one another. “I forgive you, wanna go hunting outside of the reef?” Aonung asked, mainly towards  lo’ak. After the bickered I noticed that lo’ak was going. I followed mindlessly, not really paying attention. Until I noticed they were leaving us. I tapped and signed to lo’ak ‘they left i think it was a prank” he seemed scared, scared? I looked where he was looking, noticing a gigantic black fish come towards us. I quickly got back on my ilu. Trying to hint at lo’ak to do the same. He was frozen, almost entranced by the unknown fish. Y/n grabbed his wrist and wrapped lo’aks arm around him. Trying to get him to hold on. Once he did, the ilu went as fast as it could, barely missing a few close calls. Soon the ilu didn't miss the shark like fish, and it attacked the ilus fin. Following the fin was a streak of crimson blood.
Y/n gabbed lo’aks wrist and swam as fast and hard as he could, hiding in some coral reef holding him behind him, even if he was younger. Before the fish was barely able to snatch and eat us. A gray colored version of the thing attacking us. Slammed him into a wall of reefs. Before y/n could notice, lo’ak was slipping from his hands. Looking behind himself, he couldn't find him. Freaking out, he started panicking. Since he couldn't hold his breath any more. y/n passed out.
Floating in the ocean y/n opened his eyes. Nothing in miles near him. Just pure ocean. y/n started swimming towards the front of him, seeing a small rock. He perked himself there. Finally taking a deep breath to help calm him down. Trying to pinpoint where he was. He was taken out of his thoughts when he felt a sharp pain on his back, touching where it was throbbing. He pulled back his hands, realizing he was bleeding. A few tears seeped through his closed eyes, he felt pure fear. He was in the middle of nowhere, bleeding, wondering if lo’ak was okay. He tried to call for an ilu, hoping he was at least somewhat close to the island. Thankfully an ilu appeared, he took in a deep breath preparing himself for the salt water to sting his bleeding wound. He made the bond, and rode. After a half day he finally found the island.
The island seemed gloomy, he approached with caution. He walked towards what he thought was the shared marui between him and his family. He peeked through hearing sniffles between the youngest sister. He was relieved to see his family. He was painfully aware of his cut even after a while it was still oozing out some blood. He whimpered out his pain, “mom my back” his voice was barely above a whisper but to the rest of the family, they could hear him planets away. They gasped, tuk running with her tail in between her legs and immediately clinged onto the elder one's leg. Kiri followed after. Jake released a breath that sounded as if he was holding it in for weeks. Neytiri started crying and smiled. Holding y/n as tight as she could. You winced underneath her grip.
“Show you your back,” her voice only held happiness in her voice. You tried to turn around, before black spots had entered your vision. Your body went limp, the rest of the men in the sully family ran to turn you over, kiri ran to fetch ronal. The cut started at your shoulder blade and went down to your hip. You had a bruise along your right thigh. To put it simply, it looked like you went through hell and back. Ronal was quick, she was there along with tsireya. You were quickly bandaged, Ronal quickly went and prayed for your safety, tsrireya and neytiri joined her. You slowly opened your eyes, you had a killer headache, and your back was like someone was actively clawing at you again and again. You fully opened your eyes and were met with an empty marui. You nearly died and they left you? Bro was flabbergasted. He pushed the lump building up in the back of throat. Hecrwled out of the marui. He winced at the image of fire, coming from a human boat. He called out for his ilu, the one who safely brought him back home. He saw tsireya swimming. ‘What is going on?’ he signed to the seemling distressed girl. ‘They have tuk and kiri come on!’ She sat behind you and led you to where your sister was.
Before you were on the boat you spotted your oldest brother on a rock with lo’ak, you quickly swam by them. Neteyam breathing was uneven. y/n took off his bandages and cut them in half with his hunting knife. He put one on the front of neteyams chest and one on his back where a hole was gushing out blood. “Get him to ronal! She's on the island!” you yelled at lo’ak, you gave him your ilu. Tsireya was leading the way to the boat.
You were met with the back of an army dressed as na'vi, holding kiri. Neytiri had a knife to your formerly human friend, spider. Jake holding tuk. “Go” your voice was barely a whisper so only the girl by you could hear. Your tail went back and forth studying the unknown na’vi. After a second you jumped, kicking your sister out of his grasp. You bit as hard as you could on his neck. He groaned, flipping his back over, dropping his gun with y/n. You quickly picked it up, pointing at him. “Kid, you don't even know how to use that” he chuckled, taunting y/n. y/n hissed, his first time honestly hissing. He points at a human coming his way. He shoots the gun, right at the human head, never leaving the glare from the unknown na’vi. “Mom! Neteyam is with Ronal, I don't think he is gonna die!” y/n knew why she slit spider's throat. Somehow, miles had gotten another gun. Y/n noticed a little late, the much bigger na’vi shot y/n in the thigh. y/n noticed the pain before even realizing he was shot. He ran behind miles, cutting off miles' kuru, sending him with waves of pain to the colonel. After letting miles float in pain, y/n slit his throat. Blood spraying onto y/n's face. y/n had kneeled, his adrenaline rush finally running off. The boat started going upside down. Uh-oh. y/n quickly held his breath swimming as fast as he could, he ran into lo’ak. ‘Dad, i dont where dad is, go save him’ the signs were becoming messy, making them harder to read. Lo’ak still had the gist of it and nodded. y/n swam back to the island waiting for the rest of his family to return. He checked on neteyam, he was unconscious but had a steady heartbeat. y/n smiled knowing he would pull out. He is the great son of Jake Sully after all. After waiting a bit, y/n was drowsy. He was suffocating in pain; with his back and thigh, he would believe you if you said he was gonna die.
He tried his hardest to stay awake, he closed his eyes, body going limp for the second time this day. He opened his eyes, seeing a beautiful sanctuary, filled with na’vi laughing while walking, some holding hands, some crying. He felt at peace, no throbbing back, no blood-colored thighs, no war.  An old man with wise eyes and a small smile came up towards y/n, y/n wasn't frightened, he felt an instant connection, like he was the man he was missing in his life. “Oh, dear one, it's great to finally meet you. But you belong with neytiri, not me, no. far too early." His crow's feet were noticeable, he had wise eyes, and a strong facial structure. “I'm sorry to ask but uhm but where are we?” Y/n was looking around at the beautiful scenery. “We are with ewya dear one” his smile faltered for a second. “What? I-im dead? No. no, my family,” y/n was quickly panicking, he can't be dead. What about Neteyam having kids? Lo’ak finally mating with tsireya? Kiri becoming a beautiful young healer? Tuk finding her ikran? “If you want to be with your family, you’ll need to step back, it will be painful,” y/n put two and two together figuring out who this man was, “eytukan, my grandfather?” he gave a cheerful nod and slightly pushed the younger na’vi back, “tell your mother i miss her.” he smiled before your vision was black. It was cold, very cold. After the cold surrounded him, he felt the most excruciating pain ever. He felt a very bone crack out of place. He saw his limp body, his father slightly crying, holding his son's hand, caressing it. His mother screaming at eywa praying for him to come back, his oldest brother was awake looking at y/n with guilty eyes, lo’ak with shameful ones, tuk crying the loudest out of all the, y/n was tuk’s rock, always clinging onto him when her parents were busy. Kiri tried confronting but she wouldn't do anything since it wasn't you. Spider was a couple feet away; he wasn't crying, instead angry at himself for trusting his “father.” y/n was screaming, crying as the pain was becoming worse. His soul went back into his body; since his soul was set free, he had to be molded back to his body.
His eyes opened softly, “you guys thought you would get rid of me that easily?’’ his voice was groggy, all eyes on him. Once again, his oldest brothers embraced him tightly. Kiri clinging onto his right side, tuk cuddled on his arm. After they cleared off of him, expect tuk. He felt his father's tears on his forehead, “why are you crying i'm not dead right?" he held onto his father's forearm. To try and sit up, his mother hastily pushed him down. “Don't move, it'll only cause you pain” her voice breaking on every other word. “Grandpa said he missed you, i was with ewya, one with her. It was very peaceful. Many families were there.” y/n was ranting reassuring everyone that he is indeed still alive, neytiri was looking at the body of her middle child, happy. He had met her father, one of her wishes. For her children to meet her father. “My leg hurts,” he was yearning for some type of relief from the pain. Ronal was there within seconds, wrapping his thigh, his back again. “How do you feel neteyam?” Even after his actual death experience, he still wondered about his sibling. “Alive.” he said, both him and y/n chuckled.
