Incoming Rant ⚠️
Drawing lil glitched Poptropicans is so fun bc the basic design of Poptropicans is simple and cute but you can make it creepy really fast. I'll do more sketches/doodles in the future, but it's just to think about, y'know? One Glitch can have a floating head, one can have a smile with too many teeth, another can have limbs replace by white boxes like the ones that appear when the game loads...
DIRUFHGVDOLRHG YESSS
Oooooooh these are all really good ideas fr
That's why I love it when Poptropica is seen through the lense of a cosmic horror or something. Tbh with that lore it's begging to be creepy
Wait did you ever finish the novels
#BECAUSE THIS GAME IS BEGGING TO BE A HORROR STORY#LIKE WHAT IS THIS WORLD THESE POOR IDIOTS ARE TRAPPED IN#poptropica#the code

State of Affairs: The End of 2022
(Copied from Patreon.)
Hi everyone! I wanted to slide in with a quick update for what you can expect from me for the rest of the year with regards to BACKLASH, commissions, and other work! Managing expectations and my own work-load is important, and I want to be better about checking in and adjusting things in my life in order to achieve healthy work habits and a long artistic career.
So! No more fluff, let's get right into it:
I have a lot of personal travel happening in November, December and January. At the same time, we've reached a point in BACKLASH that I want to give my all to. This next scene is one I've waited years to share with you all, so I want to get it right and make sure it's something I'm proud of.
So, in order to make sure that all happens without me losing my mind or overworking myself, I'm going to spend my time focusing on cleaning up my 'owed work' plate - meaning overdue commission work and other obligations I've had hanging over me for a while. I want to get these projects and pieces finished up for my clients and peers in order to clear the way for consistent and focused work on this next chunk of BACKLASH.
My plan of action is thus:
Highest Priority 1: complete owed work and projects for clients, patrons and peers (predicted to be finished by the end of November 2022).
BACKLASH updates will not be public again until January 2023 in order to alleviate undue pressure on me to rush through comic pages.
Patreon will get periodic BACKLASH updates as I manage to finish new pages (as they always have). Patrons will have access to the rest of the chapter before public readers, though I can't promise I'll be making three pages per week.
Highest Priority 2: BACKLASH returns sometime in January 2023 with the usual three page per week update schedule until the end of chapter 7.
I'll definitely be doing other work as well - personal illustrations, fanart, bonus comics, cast page updates and the like. (I have SO many bonus BACKLASH and Murder Club comics doodled out right now that I want to clean up and share on Patreon, it's not even funny.) It's important to balance work with fun in order to stave off the horrors of artistic burnout, so I'll be trying to take it one thing at a time and keep checking in with my own energy and feelings as I head into 2023.
Thank you for your understanding! I have a lot of work I'm excited to get to and a lot of comics I want to get finished, so I appreciate your patience as I continue to juggle work for income and work for comics. I'll give you all another update probably sometime at the end of December.
But for now, thanks again, and take care of yourselves! I hope the end of the year is stress-free and cozy for you all. 💕💕

IMPORTANT / BACKGROUND
TW: death of parents.
yoon ahna was born on a cold night in december to a middle class family. she was the only child of dae-min and sooyoung and the apple of their eye. she grew up living in her birthplace of pelican town, running around without a care in the world. life was easy. her parents ran a busy restaurant that gave them a steady income, even extra money during the summer months when the area was loaded with tourists and they had a home that was warm and welcoming to all.
ahna was always well liked. she was even considered popular in school, her free spirt and kind heart attracting people to her like moths to a flame. she was a social butterfly, spending more time in class talking to those around her than actually paying attention to the lesson and doodling in all her notebooks. she did just well enough in her studies to make it to graduation. however, she was involved in every other aspect of school life that wasn’t her studies. she was on the student council, a cheerleader, prom queen, dance committee, and even acted in theatre productions. when she wasn’t in school she could be found down on the beach, dancing in the waves, riding her convertible down the highway with the music on full blast and the sound of her laugher always echoed in her wake. ahna was a source of light.
though, she wasn’t perfect. ahna was always forgetting her curfew, she lost almost everything and you couldn’t rely on her for much. she had the best of intentions at all times but her head was very much in the clouds. she was a daydreamer and would have lost her own head if it wasn’t attached. her carefree attitude was as much of a nuisance as it was an asset. she was so free-spirited that it often appeared she didn’t truly care about anything or anyone. you wanted to be around her but you could never really know her and she never really took the time to know anyone else, everything was at a superficial level.
after graduation, she managed to get into college only a few towns over. this was huge for the yoon family who never really ventured far from their hometown. ahna had decided to study cosmetology. she was to become a make-up artist and hair dresser. it was something she was already somewhat confident with and knew it would be a successful career path. she was good at talking to people and loved the idea of making other’s feel as beautiful on the outside as they were on the inside. not to mention, everyone always talked about how she would be the perfect fit to go off and work in los angeles. it would be a dream to be on movie sets or tours, working for the stars she adored.
however, she was less than a year into her program when tragedy struck. ahna’s parents were in a head-on collision, driving to surprise her with a visit. both died on impact and the young yoon’s whole world was turned upside down. she immediately pulled out of school to return to her hometown. she found comfort in being surrounded by the community who had helped raise her and those who knew her parents as well as she did, if not better.
the first year, it was like she was walking around in a fog. she has very few memories after packing up and leaving school and packing up her childhood home and parents belongings. that first year she was far from the same girl that had left stardew valley. she had lost her spark. which was understandable. but the bright star who was off to work for the stars of hollywood was gone. she was a drifter, no plan, no job, couch surfing and having no intentions of moving forward.
though, after time it got easier and she started to find herself again. it was a slow process but being in her hometown was certainly helpful, having people to rally around her and support her no matter what. it started when she was offered a job at the cafe to keep her busy, then when she was sold a small beachside cottage at a very discounted price to make her home, then finally she would find herself smiling and laughing -- breathing made easier. it took time but ahna’s community became her family.
now, ahna can be found cheerily chatting with locals and guests as she serves them coffee. she is bubbly and still a little scatterbrained, she’s the life of the party and very reminiscent of the girl she was in high school -- but with a sadness that never fully goes away. sometimes she’ll disappear for a day or two, only to show up again like nothing happened. she never tells anyone when she’s leaving or why, she just goes.
WANTED CONNECTIONS / PLOTS
platonic ─── unlikely friends , friend from college , a nice wholesome best friend & confidant , childhood friends , a party buddy , someone who is also as free spirited as ahna and they go on adventures together , neighbours. , any other form of friendship really
romantic ─── first kiss / first relationship / first love, a past or present unrequited crush from either side , exes on good or bad terms ( eyes emoji ....... the spice ) , friends with benefits , a one night stand
negative ─── someone who just doesn't click with them ( this is probably someone more uptight who can’t stand how ahna seems to not have a care in the world ), friends who had a falling out , anything else to bring the d r a m a

Heat | Aldo Raine x m!reader
@satan-incarnate-666 asked: PROMPT STORM INCOMING
"You're terrible!" "You love me, though" - aldo raine x m!reader
summary: Aldo insists that the Basterds take a break, which happens to give you and him a chance to talk.
tws: swearing
Aldo had decided that the Basterds ought to stop, as the sunshine and the heat was getting to be too much for everyone, and while Omar was in charge of carrying everyone's shirts and jackets - someone had to - you and Aldo searched for somewhere to stop for a moment or two; there was an abandoned house nearby. It had been bombed to shit, destroyed by Blitzkrieg, but at least it was shady there.
Aldo ordered everyone to get in the shade, to sit down, to lie down, whatever, just take a load off for a while; he was covered in sweat when he climbed up the broken bits of the house to get to your little spot. You guessed it was once a bedroom, wooden floors and a burned and charred wardrobe, and although half of it had been blown open and shattered, it was at least shady; although it was still too warm as you laid on your back and covered your eyes with your arm, able to feel the hairs tickle your eyelids as you opened your mouth to breathe.
You grabbed his hat, and used it to replace your arm as you grumbled. "Remind me again why we don't have any ice."
"It'd melt," he shrugged, sitting down with his legs dangled over the edge of the broken floor. If he leaned over, he could see the other Basterds below. "Y'know, this heat got me thinkin'-"
"No." You muttered. "Whatever you're thinking, no."
Aldo smiled a little, tilting his head to the side. "I didn't even finish."
"I don't care," you chuckled, shaking your head. "Whatever it was, it was probably either stupid or vile."
"What makes you say that?" He laughed.
"The fact that you're terrible!"
"You love me, though," he pointed out. "I might be terrible, but you love me."
You huffed, searching for his hand and grabbing it, bringing it to your chest and drawing little patterns on his skin. "Against my better judgement, sure."
Aldo hummed quietly, gently tapping your chest as he dared to close his eyes and smile. If there was one thing that the heat could do better than anything, it was put everyone to sleep. "We'll start moving again when the sun goes down... it won't be so bad, then."
"You say that, but it probably will," you let out a harsh and long yawn. "At least the guys are gonna get some rest, though... fuck knows they deserve it."
He nodded, his breathing starting to slow down a little as he relaxed more, getting closer and closer to falling asleep. "I think we all do... y'know, back home, days like this... just spend 'em in bed til the night comes."
You nodded, moving to lie on your stomach, moving up a little more so that you could rest your head on his lap, a harsh sigh coming from the back of your throat. "We'd just sit around and bitch and moan about it... different now, though... bigger things to worry about."
Aldo kept one hand between your shoulders, putting the other behind his head as he yawned quietly. "Y'know, Sergeant (y/l/n)... not much has changed."
You slapped his thigh gently, groaning as you rolled your eyes. "Don't be a dick."
"You do!" He defended with a chuckle. "You're my boyfriend, and I love you, but you still complain about the weather."
You grumbled, cuddling into him a little more, a soft groan of content drawn out when he put his hand a little lower, drawing and doodling little patterns across your sweat soaked skin. "You're so fucking annoying."
"Again," Aldo repeated, "you love me."
"Yeah, I know," you huffed. "Doesn't mean you're not annoying, though."
"I can be more annoying," he mused.
"Please don't."

you said something in your headcanons that piqued my interest. anyways if you’re up for it abo halzek on a call with children? And jays omega instincts come out? also I’ve said this before but absolutely love your writing 🤗
This case was a tough one. No one liked the cases that involved children. Jay especially. It was always like a light switch would flip inside of Jay and everyone would see a completely different side of him.
It wasn’t very often that it happened either. Adam started to notice it whenever a particular case would involve children. Jay’s whole demeanor would change. It was no secret in Intelligence or even the 21st that Jay Halstead was Intelligences resident Omega. People on the outside would automatically assume he was a Beta. He never acted like the traditional Omega would. Ever. All except when children were involved.
Intelligence had managed to bust a child trafficking ring. They had completely stumbled upon the case by accident when Burgess had ran into a child that had been frightened beyond belief. No one could get through to the little girl. That is until Jay stepped into the room.
Adam had watched in complete amazement as the child eyed his mate. He couldn’t even put into words how quick Jay jumped into the “motherly" role. The girl only took a moment before she was letting Jay sit next to her. Adam was almost ashamed to admit that he enjoyed seeing this side to Jay. It wasn’t very often that he would see Jay fret over a child. It wasn’t very often that he saw Jay actually react like an Omega would.
It hadn’t taken long for the girl to open up to Jay. The Omega had taken off the scent blocking bandages off of his scent gland and allowed his natural scent to flood the room. Lavender and vanilla. The girl had calmed almost instantly just by the scent. Jay radiated with soothing and calming pheromones as he talked to the small child. A slight smile on his face as she doodled on one of his notebooks.
By accident, Jay had even growled at Voight when he had walked into the room. Just upon instinct of the demanding Alpha scent coming into the room.
Jay had spent his time nurturing and taking care of the girl. Slowly getting answers out of her until he finally managed to get her to tell him the location she had came from.
What they had found, almost sent Jay into a frenzy. Two little boys and another little girl had been huddled together in a dirty basement in tattered clothing. The smell of the basement was gut wrenching that Adam himself almost lost the contents of his stomach. Jay had jumped into immediate action, rushing over to sooth the children. He ordered the patrolman to fetch blankets, water, and some clothes that Jay always kept in his truck. The only person that the children would even remotely let near them had been Jay. His words calming and gentle as he approached them. They had been skittish around the Alphas of the team but Jay’s words managed to calm them enough that Adam and Atwater could get close.
Jay had remained close to them as the children were loaded up into Ambulance 61. One of the boys clung to Jay, refusing to let go. Jay only muttered to Voight that he was going to the hospital with them but they all knew that he was going to anyway. It was like it on every case with children.
When Adam arrived at the hospital, he had found Jay sitting in the conjoined room that held all four of the children. It had surprised him that Jay was fast asleep on the hospital bed with all the children clinging to him. His arms were wrapped around them protectively. It was clear to him that Jay was in a light sleep and even the slightest movement would wake him up.
Adam smiled softly has he took soft steps into the room and rounded the hospital bed. He reached out, careful of the pups wrapped up in his mate’s protective grasp. His hand landed softly on the side of Jay’s neck, where his bond mark resided, and the Omega stirred. It was the only way Adam knew he could keep Jay from lashing out. Jay’s instincts always went into overdrive whenever it came to a child. Even if that child was not biologically is. “Hey there.” Adam whispered. “How they doing?” the blonde added, motioning towards the children.
Jay made no effort to move but smiled to the Alpha. “Scared. My brother said they are malnourished and dehydrated. Luckily physical injuries were minimum but they are terrified. I couldn’t even leave the room without one of them panicking on my brother.”
Adam only grinned, sitting down in the chair next to the bed. “It’s not like you would of left them anyway.”
Jay gave a soft sigh, shuffling on the bed until he managed to detangle himself from the mass of small limbs. He grabbed his jacket off of the side of the chair and placed it in the middle of the pack of pups before getting up. Stretching, he let out a sigh of relief. His gaze soft as he looked down at the children. “They look peaceful.” He whispered.
Adam’s smile only grew bigger. “They had you.” The Alpha replied, standing up and moving through the room until he was next to his mate. Jay instinctively leaned into the blonde but his eyes never left the pups. Adam could smell the strong protective pheromones radiating off of Jay. “Vanessa and Hailey are getting ahold of their families. They should be here later tonight.” Adam stated.
Four pups. All had been kidnapped from low income families from around Chicago. The little girl, the one who had been found by Burgess, was Sophie Masters. She had been missing for four months. The other little girl was Ariana Harper. She had disappeared around the same time as Sophie. The boys were twin brothers, Kyle and Charlie Benjamin. They had disappeared two months prior. Now thanks to one brave little girl and Jay’s own instincts, four children were going home to their families. The trafficker had been caught and was due to be processed the next morning.
Adam would count this as a win.
The Alpha almost jumped out of his skin as Jay let out a low growl. “Again, Jay?” Willis voice cut through the growls. Jay’s face flushed over causing Will to chuckle for a second. “How long ago did they fall asleep?”
Jay sighed softly, “Maybe an hour ago. They fought it for so long. I had to lay down with them.” In other words, the four pups craved the maternal instincts that kicked in from Jay and the protectiveness that radiated off of him whenever someone would walk by. He made them feel safe.
“I was going to see if they were ready to eat but we can let them sleep for awhile longer.” Will stated. “Let me know when they wake up.”
Jay nodded, his gaze following Will’s form walk out the door. “Going to wait here until the parents arrive?” Adam questioned. The Omega just looked up with a sheepish smile on his face. That smile said it all. “I'll go get you a coffee.” Adam muttered, placing a chaste kiss to Jay’s forehead. “Want anything to eat?”
The Omega shook his head. “I’ll wait until they wake up. It was easiest to get Sophie to eat when I ate with her.”
Adam nodded, giving Jay a quick kiss before excusing himself from the room.
x
Jay had remained with the children until the second their parents arrived. The Omega had brushed out their hair, getting all the rats and tangles out. He had managed to coax them into taking showers and getting the dirt and grime off of their bodies.
He had made it his personal mission to go to the cafeteria and get each of their favorite foods for them to have as their first meal outside of the horrors that had been their captivity.
They were in fresh clothes that Jay had Adam go out and buy for them, each with their favorite animal. Sophie a cat, Ariana a penquin, and Kyle and Charlie both had dogs on theirs.
Jay stood close by as the parents were brought into the room and reunited with their children, watching on with a soft smile as they embraced their parents for the first time in months.
Adam stood with him, his arm wrapped around Jay’s waist. The Alpha smiled, whispering to Jay, “You were the only person that could of solved this case?”
Jay looked up to him in confusion. “What?”
Adam laughed softly. “Had it not been for you and your instincts to care for them. We would of never gotten Sophie to talk. That was all you, Jay.”
Jay shrugged but a smile still settled on his face. “I suppose so.”

joe keery. cis male. he/him. / jack devin just pulled up blasting video killed the radio star by the buggles — that song is so them ! you know, for a twenty - four year old radio show host, i’ve heard they’re really impulsive, but that they make up for it by being so captivating. if i had to choose three things to describe them, i’d probably say obscure vintage horror comics, blurry photographs of mysterious figures in the woods, and vivid descriptions of spine - chilling tales . here’s to hoping they don’t cause too much trouble ! ( sam, 23, est, she/her )
hey there, demons ! *ba tum tss* i’m sam and i never do this, but i really felt like it was time for a change, so i drew lots of inspiration from some of my favorite ocs and i love what i’ve come up with ! character info is under the cut and please feel free to message me if you would like to plot !

ii. history
jackson willard “jack” devin was born on halloween day ( yes, really ) in salem massachusetts ( yes, really ). his mother stayed home with him as he was growing up while his father is a boston cop turned sheriff of the county and he’s an only child.
outside of the popular tourist spots, his hometown has a very close - knit, stuck in the 80s vibe. it’s the sort of place where everyone knows everyone for their entire lives because no one ever leaves and no one new ever moves in. phone and internet signals are nearly impossible to come by, so the local arcade and the video store still have quite a booming business in the year 2020. jack grew up in a not - so - typical small town suburban gothic environment, his dad’s income being just enough for them to get by every month.
he was an energetic kid who cycled through all sorts of interests, trying out everything from little league ( disaster ) to music lessons ( not as much of a disaster, but he wound up getting bored of it ). nothing seemed to really stick until he got his first horror comic : a vintage issue of tales from the crypt with tattered, yellowing pages. he was five years old and paid five cents for it at an elderly neighbor’s yard sale and from that moment on he was hooked. it started with the comics, but he quickly expanded his horizons to movies, books, and television in the genre of horror.
he got intro drawing and that was the only thing besides his newfound interest in horror that he could sit still for. at first he would just try to re - draw the panels in his comic books, but soon he was drawing anything and everything that caught his interest and he was getting good. he was being homeschooled by his mother at the time, but once friends and family and, well, everyone took notice of his skill, they were encouraging his parents to nurture his talent.
his parents fought about it. his dad didn’t see the value in his skill and wanted him to instead focus on academics, aspiring towards his son one day becoming a lawyer or a businessman or even following in his footsteps. jack never wanted that for himself. he was homeschooled by his mom up until then and she believed in him. it was with her blessing that he would go to a real school for the first time at the age of fourteen, starting off his freshman year at a high school that was a thirty minute train ride away in boston and catered exclusively to youth who demonstrated an exceptional talent in some area of the fine arts.
jack did well in school, but his grades probably would have been a lot better still if he didn’t start purposely acting out as his relationship with his dad got worse and worse. he started skipping classes, getting caught trespassing in cemeteries at 2am, and smoking a lot of weed.
when it came time for college, jack planned to attend art school. he swears he did. he looked a few schools on the west coast to get away from his dad for a few years yikes and planned to apply, but on the deadline date he got so high that he forgot to submit his portfolios. yes, really.
he loaded up his van ( a turquiose monstrosity he painted to look like the mystery machine ) and headed out to california anyway after telling his parents that he would be attending UCLA. of course, they quickly found it that it was a lie and his dad was furious. the two got into a huge fight over the phone and things were said. the result is that jack and his father haven’t spoken to each other ever since.
he did lots of odd jobs while he was on the road and basically lived in his van, which didn’t change right away when he decided to settle in LA, but he eventually got a job fetching coffee for the late night employees at a local radio station.
it was the typical, cliché story : the regular late night host called out of work at the last minute, there was no one else around and they were going to be on air in ten seconds. jack was thrown in front of the microphone and told to think fast !
he did, and the listeners loved him for it. whether it was his ramblings about horror movies or his thick boston accent or his reckless use of swear words on live radio, he turned out to be a massive hit. the successful night earned him a gig as an occasional substitute deejay, and with each broadcast he grew more and more popular, and about two years ago he was finally given his own program.
the graveyard shift is a radio program that airs every weeknight from 12am - 5am in the los angeles area and on apps such as iheartradio. jack hosts the show as his ( thinly veiled ) alter ego the night watchmen and discusses topics such as the paranormal, conspiracy theories, and all things horror. it’s one of the most popular programs of the time slot in the country.
it’s something that he never expected or picturing himself doing, but now he can’t imagine doing anything else. he’s become really passionate about revitalizing the field and bringing radio into the 21st century. he signed a HUGE contract with the studio when his show first started and now he’s a quite well known radio personality in the area and across the country.
iii. extras
huge stoner. high as fuck 90% of the time, and the other 10% of the time he’s probably still high, just not as fuck.
well known for his on air antics. he’ll light a joint in the middle of his radio show, he’ll prank call a friend and broadcast it to the entire city, he’ll curse in every single sentence and skate by on the after hours excuse when he’s reprimanded for it. he’s so outlandish and bizarre and like nothing that’s ever been heard on the radio before, and it just draws people in.
he often seems shy in person, but it’s more like he’s just a little socially awkward, something which also shines through in occasional non - malicious but blunt remarks and general lack of regard for what people think of him. he really just...doesn’t care.
genuinely seems to believe it’s either halloween day and / or the year 1986 at any given moment as that’s about as recent as his pop culture references get. he’s never heard of the k*rdashians, he doesn’t know what the mcu is, and the phrase yeet means absolutely nothing to him. mention any of it to him and he’ll just stare blankly bc he honestly doesn’t have a clue.
HOWEVER, he did start the area 51 meme from last summer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
still draws. especially if he has to still for a stretch of time, then he’ll take out his latest sketchbook ( he goes through a lot of them ) and start doodling. he’s still quite good, mostly in his favored comic - esque style.
BIG CHAOTIC ENERGY and ZERO IMPULSE CONTROL
a chatterbox with friends but don’t be fooled...he’s been giving his own dad the silent treatment for almost seven ( 7 ) years now. it’s his preferred method of expressing anger towards someone because he isn’t really a fan of confrontation, but he’s maybe a liiiittle bit stubborn.
most of the time he’s a really easygoing person, a good friend and very loyal to the people he cares about. well - meaning, not the best at advice but he’s more likely to try and cheer a person up anyway.
he has a pet pied ball python named the crypt keeper ( tkc for short ) who he sometimes just carries with him because he likes to just chill wrapped around jack’s hand and arm.
iv. wanted connections
maternal or paternal cousins ( their grandparents probably live in boston or new england but otherwise anything goes for this )
close friends
friends
guests on his radio show
fans / haters of his radio show
people who don’t like him / find him annoying
exes ( 1 - 2, can be on good or bad terms )

joe keery. cis male. ( sam, 23, est, she/her )
hey there, demons! *ba tum tss* i’m sam and i also write parker ( @prkrfm ) which is the best place to contact me for plotting!
i. stats

ii. history
jackson willard “jack” devin was born on halloween day ( yes, really ) in salem massachusetts ( yes, really ). his mother stayed home with him as he was growing up while his father is a boston cop turned sheriff of the county and he has one sibling, a younger sister.
outside of the popular tourist spots, his hometown has a very close - knit, stuck in the 80s vibe. it’s the sort of place where everyone knows everyone for their entire lives because no one ever leaves and no one new ever moves in. phone and internet signals are nearly impossible to come by, so the local arcade and the video store still have quite a booming business in the year 2020. jack grew up in a not - so - typical small town suburban gothic environment, his dad’s income being just enough for them to get by every month.
he was an energetic kid who cycled through all sorts of interests, trying out everything from little league ( disaster ) to music lessons ( not as much of a disaster, but he wound up getting bored of it ). nothing seemed to really stick until he got his first horror comic : a vintage issue of tales from the crypt with tattered, yellowing pages. he was five years old and paid five cents for it at an elderly neighbor’s yard sale and from that moment on he was hooked. it started with the comics, but he quickly expanded his horizons to movies, books, and television in the genre of horror.
he got intro drawing and that was the only thing besides his newfound interest in horror that he could sit still for. at first he would just try to re - draw the panels in his comic books, but soon he was drawing anything and everything that caught his interest and he was getting good. he was being homeschooled by his mother at the time, but once friends and family and, well, everyone took notice of his skill, they were encouraging his parents to nurture his talent.
his parents fought about it. his dad didn’t see the value in his skill and wanted him to instead focus on academics, aspiring towards his son one day becoming a lawyer or a businessman or even following in his footsteps. jack never wanted that for himself. he was homeschooled by his mom up until then and she believed in him. it was with her blessing that he would go to a real school for the first time at the age of fourteen, starting off his freshman year at a high school that was a thirty minute train ride away in boston and catered exclusively to youth who demonstrated an exceptional talent in some area of the fine arts.
jack did well in school, but his grades probably would have been a lot better still if he didn’t start purposely acting out as his relationship with his dad got worse and worse. he started skipping classes, getting caught trespassing in cemeteries at 2am, and smoking a lot of weed.
when it came time for college, jack planned to attend art school. he swears he did. he looked a few schools on the west coast to get away from his dad for a few years yikes and planned to apply, but on the deadline date he got so high that he forgot to submit his portfolios. yes, really.
he loaded up his van ( a turquiose monstrosity he painted to look like the mystery machine ) and headed out to california anyway after telling his parents that he would be attending UCLA. of course, they quickly found it that it was a lie and his dad was furious. the two got into a huge fight over the phone and things were said. the result is that jack and his father haven’t spoken to each other ever since.
he did lots of odd jobs while he was on the road and basically lived in his van, which didn’t change right away when he decided to settle in LA, but he eventually got a job fetching coffee for the late night employees at a local radio station.
it was the typical, cliché story : the regular late night host called out of work at the last minute, there was no one else around and they were going to be on air in ten seconds. jack was thrown in front of the microphone and told to think fast !
he did, and the listeners loved him for it. whether it was his ramblings about horror movies or his thick boston accent or his reckless use of swear words on live radio, he turned out to be a massive hit. the successful night earned him a gig as an occasional substitute deejay, and with each broadcast he grew more and more popular, and about two years ago he was finally given his own program.
the graveyard shift is a radio program that airs every weeknight from 12am - 5am in the los angeles area and on apps such as iheartradio. jack hosts the show as his ( thinly veiled ) alter ego the night watchman and discusses topics such as the paranormal, conspiracy theories, and all things horror. it’s one of the most popular programs of the time slot in the country.
it’s something that he never expected or picturing himself doing, but now he can’t imagine doing anything else. he’s become really passionate about revitalizing the field and bringing radio into the 21st century. he signed a HUGE contract with the studio when his show first started and now he’s a quite well known radio personality in the area and across the country.
iii. extras
huge stoner. high as fuck 90% of the time, and the other 10% of the time he’s probably still high, just not as fuck.
well known for his on air antics. he’ll light a joint in the middle of his radio show, he’ll prank call a friend and broadcast it to the entire city, he’ll curse in every single sentence and skate by on the after hours excuse when he’s reprimanded for it. he’s so outlandish and bizarre and like nothing that’s ever been heard on the radio before, and it just draws people in.
he often seems shy in person, but it’s more like he’s just a little socially awkward, something which also shines through in occasional non - malicious but blunt remarks and general lack of regard for what people think of him. he really just…doesn’t care.
genuinely seems to believe it’s either halloween day and / or the year 1986 at any given moment as that’s about as recent as his pop culture references get. he’s never heard of the k*rdashians, he doesn’t know what the mcu is, and the phrase yeet means absolutely nothing to him. mention any of it to him and he’ll just stare blankly bc he honestly doesn’t have a clue.
BIG CHAOTIC ENERGY and ZERO IMPULSE CONTROL
a chatterbox with friends but don’t be fooled…he’s been giving his own dad the silent treatment for almost seven ( 7 ) years now. it’s his preferred method of expressing anger towards someone because he isn’t really a fan of confrontation, but he’s maybe a liiiittle bit stubborn.
most of the time he’s a really easygoing person, a good friend and very loyal to the people he cares about. well - meaning, not the best at advice but he’s more likely to try and cheer a person up anyway.
he has a pet pied ball python named the crypt keeper ( tkc for short ) who he sometimes just carries with him because he likes to just chill wrapped around jack’s hand and arm.
iv. wanted connections
maternal or paternal cousins ( their grandparents probably live in boston or new england but otherwise anything goes for this )
close friends
friends
guests on his radio show
fans / haters of his radio show
people who don’t like him / find him annoying
exes ( 1 - 2, can be on good or bad terms )
“casually dating” but it might get real complicated soon - allie james
( these are just ideas and i’m trash at coming up with stuff, so please don’t feel limited by what’s listed here. )

Speaking of drawing, it might be time for a change...
Lately I’ve been getting sick of one of my part time jobs (the seafood one). Well, okay, it’s more like I’m dreading it every time I have to go into work.
Long story short, the hours have gone to actual shit, I’ve been the only one doing certain tasks that the others could easily do when I’m not around during the week (mainly one person in particular, I.E. my own supervisor), and it’s just getting to the point where the cost of cab rides to get to and from that job is not fucking worth it.
Not to mention this job, for whatever reason (one I’m guessing is utter horseshit) doesn’t post the work schedule a week to two weeks in advance like most other jobs. They post it three fucking days before the work week starts, meaning you have no idea what your hours are going to be until the ‘last minute’, and it forces you to have to plan everything you do around them, and only them. Needless to say they can’t keep most new hires because of this bullshit.
I’ve had this song and dance before; back when I worked at a retail store, before taking up freelancing full-time; the little hours, the shitty work loads, and the lack of advancing. It’s all happening again with this current job.
Can’t say I’m surprised, given the nature of retail and fast food jobs.
However, this time around I’ve got my own apartment, a second part time job that I only have on the weekends with far more stable hours and a better team, and I’ve gotten better with dealing with my own personal emotional issues when it comes to dealing with the public and overall stress.
The point I’m making is I think it’s about time for me to make some adjustments again, but it’s going to take some planning first.
I want to get back into freelancing, but this time make it part time only, keep my weekend job, and tell my seafood job to go fuck itself.
Unlike before, I now understand how the tax element works for freelancers (before I didn’t and it nearly fucked me over), I have better understanding with using social media for self-promotion, and by knowing that my weekends are reserved for my part time job, I can have more control over my time during the week.
This is and will take some planning though, since it’s been well over a year since I stopped freelancing altogether. I feel rusty and need to get back into that level of focus I had before.
I’m guessing it’s gonna take about three to six months (maybe longer) to get to where I want to be, and it’s only going to work if I stick to it. I need to get more active online, post art frequently (doodles and finished stuff, regardless of what they are), and use different sites to promote. I already have some accounts I can use that I haven’t touched in a while, so they will be finally coming to good use.
Another thing I have going for me too, one I didn’t think about, is drawing NSFW art. Before I was limited to showing off that sort of thing because of the SFW nature of my freelance work. I don’t have that barrier anymore, and damn it, I’m taking advantage of that too!
I will continue to make updates on this, but that is my goal right now; getting back into art as a form of part time income, but doing it with the experience I gained from before.

30 Signs You’re An Empath
1. Knowing: Empaths just know stuff, without being told. It’s a knowing that goes way beyond intuition or gut feelings, even though that is how many would describe the knowing. The more attuned they are the stronger this gift becomes.
2. Being in public places can be overwhelming: Places like shopping malls, supermarkets or stadiums where there are lots of people around can fill the empath with turbulently vexed emotions that are coming from others.
3. Feeling others emotions and taking them on as your own: This is a huge one for empaths. To some they will feel emotions off those near by and with others they will feel emotions from those a vast distance away, or both. The more adept empath will know if someone is having bad thoughts about them, even from great distance.
4. Watching violence, cruelty or tragedy on the TV is unbearable: The more attuned an empath becomes the worse it is and may make it so they eventually have to stop watching TV and reading newspapers altogether.
5. You know when someone is not being honest: If a friend or a loved one is telling you lies you know it (although many empaths try not to focus on this because knowing a loved one is lying can be painful). Or if someone is saying one thing but feeling/thinking another, you know.
6. Picking up physical symptoms off another: An empath will almost always develop the ailments off another (colds, eye infections, body aches and pains) especially those they’re closest to, somewhat like sympathy pains.
7. Digestive disorders and lower back problems: The solar plexus chakra is based in the centre of the abdomen and it’s known as the seat of emotions. This is where empaths feel the incoming emotion of another, which can weaken the area and eventually lead to anything from stomach ulcers to IBS (too many other conditions to list here). Lower back problems can develop from being ungrounded (amongst other things) and one, who has no knowledge of them being an empath, will almost always be ungrounded.
8. Always looking out for the underdog: Anyone whose suffering, in emotional pain or being bullied draws an empath’s attention and compassion.
9. Others will want to offload their problems on you, even strangers: An empath can become a dumping ground for everyone else’s issues and problems, which, if they’re not careful can end up as their own.
10. Constant fatigue: Empaths often get drained of energy, either from energy vampires or just taking on too much from others, which even sleep will not cure. Many get diagnosed with ME.
11. Addictive personality: Alcohol, drugs, sex, are to name but a few addictions that empaths turn to, to block out the emotions of others. It is a form of self protection in order to hide from someone or something.
12. Drawn to healing, holistic therapies and all things metaphysical: Although many empaths would love to heal others they can end up turning away from being healers (even though they have a natural ability for it), after they’ve studied and qualified, because they take on too much from the one they are trying to heal. Especially if they are unaware of their empathy. Anything of a supernatural nature is of interest to empaths and they don’t surprise or get shocked easily. Even at the revelation of what many others would consider unthinkable, for example, empaths would have known the world was round when others believed it was flat.
13. Creative: From singing, dancing, acting, drawing or writing an empath will have a strong creative streak and a vivid imagination.
14. Love of nature and animals: Being outdoors in nature is a must for empaths and pets are an essential part of their life.
15. Need for solitude: An empath will go stir-crazy if they don’t get quiet time. This is even obvious in empathic children.
16. Gets bored or distracted easily if not stimulated: Work, school and home life has to be kept interesting for an empath or they switch off from it and end up daydreaming or doodling.
17. Finds it impossible to do things they don’t enjoy: As above. Feels like they are living a lie by doing so. To force an empath to do something they dislike through guilt or labelling them as idle will only serve in making them unhappy. It’s for this reason many empaths get labelled as being lazy.
18. Strives for the truth: This becomes more prevalent when an empath discovers his/her gifts and birthright. Anything untruthful feels plain wrong.
19. Always looking for the answers and knowledge: To have unanswered questions can be frustrating for an empath and they will endeavour to find an explanation. If they have a knowing about something they will look for confirmation. The downside to this is an information overload.
20. Likes adventure, freedom and travel: Empaths are free spirits.
21. Abhors clutter: It makes an empath feel weighed down and blocks the flow of energy.
22. Loves to daydream: An empath can stare into space for hours, in a world of their own and blissfully happy.
23. Finds routine, rules or control, imprisoning: Anything that takes away their freedom is debilitating to an empath even poisoning.
24. Prone to carry weight without necessarily overeating: The excess weight is a form of protection to stop the negative incoming energies having as much impact.
25. Excellent listener: An empath won’t talk about themselves much unless it’s to someone they really trust. They love to learn and know about others and genuinely care.
26. Intolerance to narcissism: Although kind and often very tolerant of others, empaths do not like to be around overly egotistical people, who put themselves first and refuse to consider another’s feelings or points of view other than their own.
27. The ability to feel the days of the week: An empath will get the ‘Friday Feeling’ if they work Fridays or not. They pick up on how the collective are feeling. The first couple of days of a long, bank holiday weekend (Easter for example) can feel, to them, like the world is smiling, calm and relaxed. Sunday evenings, Mondays and Tuesdays, of a working week, have a very heavy feeling.
28. Will not choose to buy antiques, vintage or second-hand: Anything that’s been pre-owned carries the energy of the previous owner. An empath will even prefer to have a brand new car or house (if they are in the financial situation to do so) with no residual energy.
29. Sense the energy of food: Many empaths don’t like to eat meat or poultry because they can feel the vibrations of the animal (especially if the animal suffered), even if they like the taste.
30. Can appear moody, shy, aloof, disconnected: Depending on how an empath is feeling will depend on what face they show to the world. They can be prone to mood swings and if they’ve taken on too much negative will appear quiet and unsociable, even miserable. An empath detests having to pretend to be happy when they’re sad, this only adds to their load (makes working in the service industry, when it’s service with a smile, very challenging) and can make them feel like scuttling under a stone.

17 June
A fast conversion as soon as we were up and dressed today. We wanted to have breakfast somewhere a little more pleasant. Refilling the van water at service station on route we eventually stopped at a turning spot halfway across the Holy Island causeway. Cereal for breakfast and then onto lunch time picnic making. Cian was in charge of cutting salad, Jay in charge of hot drinks and Clare producing wraps. All sorted we found the start of a cycle route to Bewick-upon-Tweed. Nia, Cian and Clare were ejected from the van with their bikes and set off on the 11 mile trail along the coast. Jay drove to Berwick and found one of a few car parks without height restrictions. Leaving the van He headed of to meet the gang halfway. Shortly after midday we found each other on the track. The trio had enjoyed a pleasant ride in the sun. Jay had spotted an old military bunker (quite well spotted considering the level of complex camouflage adorning it). We explored it and climbed on it, before cycling a little further to the beach and our lunch spot. Once on the beach a series of lime kilns caught our eye - Nia and Cian were off to check them out. The incoming tide made for a good game of chicken, whilst the rocks themselves proved hosts to some massive fossils. All of us spent ages looking at the cool pebbles and shells. Nia & Cian found fossil fragments of Crinoid (a worm like animal, Cian's appeared to be star shaped in cross section), Clare found a small but complete Echinoid and between us we found some long, complete Belemnite Gaurds (large pointed worms). This was a good fossil beach. The ride continued into the afternoon as we descended into Berwick. Nia and Cian made a swift departure to the nearby playground as soon as we reached the van. Jay and Clare loaded up the bikes and made a cup of tea, enjoying the seafront. Jay waited while the others went to use the toilets, he was delighted to hear that Nia and Cian had passed on their penny pusher scams to their mother during a quick diversion into an amusement arcade they coerced her into on their way back! Today is a wash day! Even Dirty Pants Frank is due a change! In order to find a suitable campsite with decent facilities, we relocated to Berwick harbour so we could to go to the Tourist Info. Berwick is fortified by a surrounding wall, designed to defend the area from Scottish attack in the 1500's. Today the wall remains largely intact with visitors able to walk along much of the top. We took the wall route as far as as possible before ducking into town as quickly as we could - we were against the clock at 1645hr with the Tourist info closing at five. We made it with ample time to spare (9mins). The nice lady talked Nia and Clare through some local options while Jay and Cian sat down in the library and swotted up on rocky seashore life (turns out Jay was wrong the other day about the Sea Slug - it was a Sea Hare! - should have been obvious really as we watched it bounce off into the deeper water). With a fistful of info Clare made some 'phone calls. Jay, Nia & Cian took a walk down the pier toward the lighthouse. Another brief lesson on maritime navigation brought us to and from the end of the pier. Clare had drawn 3 blanks from the list but then drew an ace. At £30 this was way beyond our normal budget for a wash day, but we hadn't even been I the sea recently! 'Pot-a-doodle-do' or 'Wigwam holiday' was only a few minute drive from where we were parked. We pulled up and a lady explained where to park. She also showed Nia and Cian where the pedal go-kart track was! Free! As long as they wanted! The site had laundry facilities and a kitchen with dinning area. It was nice to cook and eat under a proper roof. Nia and Cian spent over 1.5hrs on the karts. Nia genuinely got to the stage where she could complete a whole circuit with her eyes closed the entire time. The first time Jay saw her do it he thought she must be cheating so he rode in front of her looking back all the way - she did it! Girl is a witch! Hot showers for all. It's sometimes difficult to know when to stop washing! We all felt a million dollars afterwards. Jay even found the missing sock from our last laundry session tucked into the leg of his clean shorts - fate is with us today! Sitting down to dinner at a proper dinner table was quite a novelty. We still used our sporks - they're like faithful friends now. Waiting for the washing to finish meant we could play a few games of Perudo and Spoons before sleepily plodding over to the van for a chapter of Eragon and then sleep.

CONVENTION REVIEWS: Taiyou Con 2019 - Mesa, AZ PROS:
Affordable table Large tables, around 7 or so feet Easy to find Hotel adjacent Hotel is reasonable CONS:
Parking is hard to come by Hotel is meh Not much food wise nearby Crowds are odd People don’t show until noon Cheap customers Only 1 badge Taiyou is a strange mixed bag of an event. I did it ages ago when it was at a hotel, and while not the best set up wise, it was still an ok event for me. Then they moved to this small convention center in Mesa. I’ve done several shows at this convention center, it’s ok but very outdated. That first year I had a horrible experience and vowed never to return. In 2017 I decided to try it again after I realized I had no shows in January and surprise, that one still existed. So since I had to pay in advance for my spot, and figured another year couldn’t hurt, I did it again this year. Friday is a half day pretty much. The doors open at noon, but vendor hall doesn’t open until 2pm. So you have plenty of time set up wise. I even got to sleep in a bit before driving the 2 hours up from Tucson. Got there around 9:30, and tried to check into hotel first, but got a strange response from the front desk. Never have I had a hotel want to charge me an early check in fee. NEVER. They told us in half an hour we could wave said fee and so we hit the con to set up. You only get 1 badge per table. This is one of those few cons that still does this. Irony is there’s two chairs at your table, so kind of weird. My friend had to cough up $37 for his badge, but still cheaper than a full event at around $50. (Table is around $110 ish with tax) I was informed upon arrival that if I had any problems or concerns that the vendor hall manager would be at a table against the wall. I remembered her saying this as she guided me to my spot. Later on said spot was given to a vendor and we never saw the vendor hall lead ever again. Aisles and table space behind are super narrow. They squeezed every inch out of this small center space. Photo backdrops or any display behind you is worthless. I had to resort to turning my chair sideways to allow myself to even sit and stand without bumping anyone. Getting out to pee was a nightmare. When 2pm rolled around of course we had huge lines of people wanting to get in. There were crowds, and surges all throughout Friday afternoon into the evening. It was a pretty decent start to the weekend. Hall closed at 8pm, but I decided to close half an hour early to get food. By 7 most were starting to linger away to other stuff.
Since the con had events running until 2am many were still in bed sound asleep when the next day rolled around for opening at 10. No crowds this time, many vendors tables still draped with cloth. I saw this problem last year and in the past. Saturday and into Sunday people didn’t meander in until around noon, literally 2 hours of us twiddling our thumbs. It’s wasted time on our parts, not to mention loss income. The hall really shouldn’t open until 11 or 12, as it was painfully obvious the attendees weren’t there. Once people started in once again I noticed surges. Panels and some autographs tore away our only clients, and every now and then my phone would just up and quit due to the cell service and everyone on it. Let me discuss the wifi issue really quick. So upon checking in Friday I noticed there was a free wifi. My phone connected to it just fine, but if I opened any service or app my phone would promptly inform me the line was unsecured or simply wouldn’t load anything. Turning it off I was stuck to my LTE 1-2 bars, which lagged greatly. When the vendor manager did manage to come by once, around 3pm on Friday, I asked about this issue. If we could get wifi, and her only response was “Well it costs money...” (Uh yeah I know it ain’t FREE) “..We’ll look into it for you guys..” Never got back to me, and throughout the weekend my phone would bounce from working to nope. Saturday night rolled around, and we got pizza and mcd. Just as we arrived back to the hotel it started to rain. My friend wanted to hit the con to enjoy it, but upon hearing whistling and checking out our window we noticed the weather had taken a turn for the worse. With the hotel’s panel rooms all connected via outside buildings, with little to no overhead halls, it would mean my friend would get soaked from head to toe. It at least made the kids leave the courtyard, which was right below our window. The prior night we heard the kids screaming and shouting until the wee hours. Walls and windows were not sound proof, that’s for sure. Sunday, once again, was a slow start. I must point out we rarely heard them announce OPENING or CLOSING. Someone would cup their hands and shout, which even in the small room didn’t travel far. You’d basically hear “RAWR RARW RARW” Kids did start to trickle in around noon, but with the hall closing at 4 I was a bit peeved. Less hours less time to make money after all. I finally started making sales around 3:30 of all times, and when 4 rolled and a voice was shouting to “GET OUT WE’RE CLOSED” some kids were still scrambling to look at my stuff. A table behind me, after Friday, never returned either. Saturday morning I noticed the completely bare table. After a few hours of no activity there I decided, like last year, to make it a My Hero Shrine. I doodled up a Kacchan and stuck a note saying to leave offerings for him or anyone, just don’t leave cash. It made some attendees day. At least it kept kids from congregating around it and using it as their personal hang out spot. Speaking of hang out spots. The supposed photo opt areas, one of a Japanese room with an old school radio, and another of a Japanese style high school room, were nothing but trouble. No one used it for it’s intended purpose. It took up a corner of the room near myself and others, and while a nice idea for photos it became the shouting singing high school otakus hang out. Countless times they’d start singing, jumping up on the tables/desks, and trying to start stuff like dancing and such. Problem was their voices traveled, and they’d scream or shout resulting in myself or my customers jumping a bit in surprise. (Or they’d straight up be distracted by them and leave losing me a sale.) I’d defiantly say stay away from the corner areas of the room if you buy a table, otherwise you’ll be dealing with those fools all weekend. Wow I wrote a lot. So to summarize-
-Tables are reasonable, but with only 1 badge it’s kind of expensive actually. -Hotel, while it looks nice, has major flaws. Windows and walls are not insulated, and the con does take place there resulting in kids being there until 2/3 am. -Food trucks, while a nice offering, were very limited. Just takoyaki, donuts, and I think something else. -Convention center food/drink is what you think, and not well priced. -Staff was almost non-existent inside the hall. I only saw the manager once. -No wifi, you’re on your own. -Kids in this area don’t have a lot of money, bring your bargain bin items or make deals like 2/for1. -Expect the odd ball kids, ones who think they’re the character they’re cosplaying. Or ones who over-react and basically ‘geek’ or ‘weeb’ out.
