◤°░。 ✕ VILLAS TASK 004 ; MEET THE FAMILY ! ’ 〉
if there was an award to be won for looking the part of the ideal upper class family, the flores’ would have taken it. an only child born into a family with no shortage of ways to provide for her, from an outside prospective it seemed like romina grew up having it all. but nothing is perfect, and it was apparent from very early on in her life that her parents were much more enamored with the idea of a child than an actual child and the responsibilities that entailed. both adults being naturally magnetic and charming, they were obsessed with fitting in and conforming to the comfortable lifestyle they led, no aesthetic spared even at the cost of their child’s neglect. with no siblings or immediate family who were actually close to the flores’, before starting school romina’s childhood was a lonely adult dominated world. to this day she’s not close with any aunts, uncles, or cousins due to her dad’s rocky relationship with his brothers and her mother being an only child. as far as grandparents go, they’re either in the grave or in argentina where her family, from both, sides hail from.
melina silva ( mother )
melina was only twenty years old when she gave birth to romina, and she definitely was not prepared for motherhood, a concept the woman never got the hang of even to this day. a yoga teacher with her own studio, melina was very into her job and the social life of the workplace. she’d spend more time at her studio or going out with her girlfriends than at home with her own daughter, burdening romina with babysitters until it was socially acceptable for melina to drop romina off at daycare once the girl was a little older. melina was never good with children and she’d often talk to romina like she was an adult long before romina was one, ranting to her about her father or workplace drama as if romina could understand and then getting annoyed when the little girl didn’t. one of romina’s earliest memories with her mom was in the middle of a party melina was hosting at home where romina had pranced out after raiding her mom’s closet, decked out in over sized clothes and shoes, only to be met with amused laughter from the adults for a moment before they moved on and completely forgot about her existence. melina had told romina to go back to her room and change, and that she would help dress her, only for the woman to forget and leave romina waiting up long enough that she fell asleep on the floor of her mom’s walk in closet. as romina got older her mom seemed more excited to try for a relationship, but the woman’s interest was always superficial. she’d have a blast doing romina’s hair for prom or pouring them both mimosas long before it was legal for romina to drink just so she’d have someone to complain to during breakfast, never bothering to be on the receiving end of the conversation. after her parents divorced, romina found herself stuck with the role of parent with melina because her mom has decided it’s never too late for a rebellious phase. still, a lot about romina can be traced back to her mother even if their relationship is far from close, mainly romina’s love and appreciation for yoga. a big part of the reason why romina took up the “mom” role with the pythons was to make sure they’d all have that genuine support she never got with her own mom.
valentin flores ( father )
if romina’s distance from her mother seems significant enough, it's nothing compared to her relationship with her father. a successful realtor for luxury homes, like her mother valentin was very into his work. while melina liked to entertain her friends at home, valentin liked to go out with his, and because of this he was hardly ever at home with romina even when she was a baby. when he was around, he made more of an effort to treat her not like an adult but like the child she was at the time, but it was always short lived due to his feeble patience. he could only play with her for minutes before getting bored or frustrated in the same way melina would when romina hadn’t understood long winding rants about her coworkers or about her father. instead of treating romina like an adult right away and bombarding her with concepts no child can or should be able to understand like melina did, valentin took it a step forward and flat out ignored romina until she was older. once romina started middle school and seemed very career driven at such an early age her father’s interest in her reignited for a few years fading only when he realized she had no intentions of being a realtor like him. once romina was in high school and her parents were fighting more and more, valentin would often get annoyed with romina just because of how much she looked like her mother. this behavior only added to their already strained relationship, and after this romina stopped trying altogether just because she was at a loss at how to communicate with him. after the divorce valentin felt much guiltier than melina about it, and he tries his best to at least communicate with romina during important holidays like christmas and new years, but her birthday is never on the list.
