Summary:

I love this game so much. I love it so much that I am heartbroken knowing that AA 5 & 6 butchers the story it setup and I'm considering not even playing them unless AA7 is announced. I love all the main characters so much, the whole story was so well built and I can def see the influence the story had on DGS. Apollo is such a good protagonist, he's relatable but also so unique. I love seeing his character progression in the game: a new attorney who is easily manipulated to a confident and determined attorney who trusts in his own judgement. I LOVED Klavier oh my god. I love how much he respects Apollo and although he doesn't hesitate to tease him, he doesn't bully or abuse Apollo in any way. They both have a mutual admiration and rivalry where they try to play as fairly as possible. Klav doesn't maliciously withhold or change evidence, but he does spend hours reviewing his arsenal and thinks of all the counter arguments the defense could bring up. I really like Apollo's ability, it continues the mystery and mysticism from the original trilogy but with new mechanics. I adore Trucy so much. She honestly might be my favorite AA character. She's determined, strong willed, and above all -- extremely silly. I couldn't of asked for a better character to be Phoenix's daughter. I also LOVE the sibling reveal at the end but gdi if only they actually figure it out T^T T^T. I think Apollo and Trucy's dynamic is probably my favorite Defense and assistant dynamic. This who game was so fun, I know 4-3 is not everyone's favorite and it is a little all over the place but I also enjoyed it and loved the premise. There's so much to say, I haven't even talked about Nick and Kris - what an incredible feud, what a genius development for Nick. I cannot recommend this game enough, I am so obsessed with it and cannot wait to make art <3 <3.

Ren - He's like...some wealthy rich kid. I like to think he's an heir and supposed to inherit some company but he's never taken the thing seriously. He'll never talk about his family tho, mostly his dad, his mother left him and Ren doesn't remember her.

tbh I don't think anyone knows he's like rich lol. Maybe Asaka and Tetsu but he doesn't really act the type?? Maybe he throws money around...at cards mostly but man does not live that lavish lifestyle.

Probably gets cut off some funds when he's an adult but idk I can see him saving money or finding a way to have cash so he's p set doing...whatever it is he does as an adult (pre branch chief).

I joked once that he could probably get away with working anywhere and I kinda believe it?? Man says he works here and can play it off like nothing but only works one day and is never seen again...

Would randomly crash into his homies places in the middle of the night. You're sleeping? No problem. Ren is there, maybe grabbing something from the fridge before sleeping on the couch or the bed. It's impossible to Ren proof your home.

Asshole would 100% pick a random box from a cardshop and it has the most expensive Shadow Paladin card in it. Doesn't even need Psyqualia this just happens naturally.

Aichi - He's good with speaking other languages like...he knows the words/phrases/whatever to say but thinking isn't the same as speaking. So he usually trips over his words. Can translate very well just give him a sec so he doesn't mess up words.

100% a lil bookworm. Didn't have a lot of friends in his youth so he turned to books. That was like his escape fantasy along with thinking of Vanguard.

No matter how much more confident he is in his older years...he still struggles with public speaking. Please don't make him go up and talk to the crowd...he's so nervous...

Likes to send Emi and his mom gifts!! Little things from traveling. Would send Emi ocean/mermaid related things and I think in a note somewhere his mom plays Vanguard too (I think it was something to do with hot men?? let it be touken ranbu...) he'll send her things related to what she plays and just whatever she wants lol

Kazumi - Hates his family lmao. He's on bad terms with his father and is a little better with his mom but not really. The only good one in his fam was Kazuma (pleading emoji).

Knows how to conceal his true feelings p well?? He has to in the business world and around his parents. So he'll bottle up things a lot. His more childish side peeks through usually during Vanguard or when he's around people he knows he can relax with.

Wants to learn how to cook and kinda be on his own?? He doesn't want to rely on his family's wealth and probably only uses it for housing, away from the main house, but he wants to be able to live on his own and not follow the family name.

Has a lil...dragon collection. Maybe it's cuz of Shiranui but I like to think he collects little dragon trinkets. Please don't let him go off about his collection because he will. Also is v proud of it.

Mamoru - He doesn't make dad jokes, other people make dad jokes for him!! He takes care of Ryuzu and just kinda...adopted him?? Yeah the whole association is supposed to take care of him but legally he is Mamoru's kid.

He needs to take better care of himself. Probably eats fast food or whatever the dragon empire cafeteria has that's quick and can be found sleeping at his desk, especially during the heavier seasons. Tokoha usually helps him out but he's gotten a little better at it.

Probably would have been like...a teacher or something in that field if he wasn't doing Vanguard. That wouldn't be his go to or something he aspired at first but that's what he would have settled upon.

Somehow knows everyone. Could say hi to someone on the street and has seen/spoken to them before. I like to think he's kinda famous cuz of his status and all the stuff he does but like...a lot of locals know him too. Support the community!!

Yuyu - Ends up going to the student council because of Raika lol. I don't think he'd go for any of the president or VP seats but would do something like secretary or treasurer.

Would go out of state for college!! He wants to be a pro Vanguard fighter but wants to get a degree for his fam. His sisters all have degrees so baby boy has to do it to!!

Probably genderfluid. tbh? Doesn't mind dressing up as feminine but doesn't quite like the frilly dresses his sisters pick out for him. I think he'd like more of the androgynous stuff.

He's not into max rarity for his decks. He pulls like 1 SP/FFR and is like aight cool. At most he'd would make his sideline bling but wouldn't go insane over it. Also he's a high schooler so he has no budget for this lskfjds

Tohya - Got disowned from his fam. Or at least kicked out of his house due to dropping out of med school. Homie was on his way to the big doctor leagues and then...gives it up for silly cardboard?? Yeah no his fam ain't having that bye bye.

He didn't finish school yeah but tbh he could be like...a roaming doctor. I think he was the top of his class and he knows his shit (and probably studies up on the side but not that much) so he knows what's up. Charges you with a cardfight instead of money. help him.

Stopped eating ramen for a while. Man was traumatized by the ramen challenge. It's okay he got over it and he can eat cup noodles on his own now.

He travels a lot but I like to think he p much lives at Danji's old place?? So if you wana catch him he usually goes back there. He can't officially leave because he has to take care of the turtle. Granted some Blackout members do if he can't but!! turtle is his responsibility.

I love how many systems have alters from Tokyo Ghoul lmao (at least in our circles). We have Hinami Fueguchi, Sen Takatsuki (Eto's pen name), and Rei (Juuzou's birthname). We also know a system who has a Haise Sasaki, and some form of Kaneki.

And then there's y'all!

Speaking of, may i ask how the Kens differ? Like are they different forms of Kaneki? How do they differ from source in appearance or personality or whatever y'all would like to share?

They are! All different forms of Kaneki I mean!

This is how they look in our Simply Plural! Each one represents a time in his arc, so to speak. They do all have freckles, but otherwise they look very similar to their canonical counterparts. Of course, you can see Haise's "real" name here. He's a fictive of Kazuma from Noragami, but as I previously described, Haise is a huge ID for him!

I went into it a little in that longass post, but Kazuma/Haise is the Sensible one. The one that makes me eat or drink and nags me to take care of myself. The one that fusses and does our taxes and makes phone calls. You may be shocked to find he's dry humored and kinda serious! He has "tonal issues" he says, which is both true and a bit of an in-joke. While playful at times, he has a bad habit of talking politics and Me. We're both fictives from the same source - I won't get into it but his devotion is unwavering. He's often teased for having "one subject: Vana." He's also a huge perv :/ and believe it or not he's our biggest binge eater! He likes YA novels, dark romance, and nonfiction political books.

Kaneki is a lil brat, and is noticeably younger in how he acts. He's got that teenage disconnect to the things around him. He's also anxious and selectively mute though, and if he's not with me or in good company, the bratty melts away to shy, quiet, softspokenness. He likes thrillers, romance, and gore-horror manga like Junji Ito. He also has poor depth perception! And! Braces!

Ken is a mediator. He's very down to business and serious. It doesn't mean he's not lighthearted or cheerful, his brain is just Workin! He paces around a lot while he talks. He does not have his favorite books listed.

King is kind of goofy. He's relieved he's "not like the others" 💀 He's an ANP while most of the others are EPs and he takes that win for what it is. I've caught him in his pajamas before and they were these boujee silk, matching white pjs with a K on the breast?? I was like??? Ok goober HAHA! He likes action, mystery, and nonfiction books.

Kuu is extremely anxious and stressed. He often has nausea and cries when he fronts. He has a tendency to think towards self harm, but restrains himself because it's "my" body, not his, and he would hate to hurt "me." He struggles to eat. He likes fairytales and "how to" books. Biographies, books describing places and history, things like that.

Reaper is the stern and aloof one. Kind of mean. Blunt, dry, but with a sense of humor. Very monotone. Is Bossy but Bigger. His patience is short and he has no problems telling you. He was voted "most likely to fuck" in the Kenference and has worn that badge with pride. His blog is Wild. He likes horror/mystery books. Oh he's also built like a barn and for WHAT

Shiro is quiet, cold, and a bit snappy. He's least likely to interact, unless it's to complain (💀) he also struggles the most with craving flesh. We get him red meat and cook it some so he's safe and can kind of curb the hunger Sorta. He likes extreme gore and horror books.

EDIT : We also have The Kids. They stick together most times even if they get snappy with each other. They fight for attention but I can't have one without the other. They're a package deal, if only because neither wants the other to get more than him.

Since you were talking about games, I know you're also a Dai Gyakuten Saiban/Great Ace Attorney fan (so am I! I followed you originally because you're into both it and BSD hehe), and I'm curious to know your thoughts on it! 💖 Who are your favorite characters/relationships/cases/parts? (My fave character is Benedict/Graydon. Yes I have a tendency to become obsessed with minor characters no one else cares about, oops) Did you play it with the Chronicles version (I assume so, like most people did) or are you an og who followed along with the fan translation like I did? One of the best/funniest parts of getting into that duology was coming across Souseki and being like "if I had a nickel for every time I've encountered a piece of media that had an anime version of real-life author Natsume Souseki, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" lmao 😭

Since they're two of my favorite media, sometimes I try to imagine how a BSD/DGS crossover would work, and which characters would get along, though granted the only things they really have in common are detective work/mysteries, an old-fashioned aesthetic, and some similar themes lol... I just really love both of them a lot 🥹💖 Ryuunosuke and Atsushi being the exasperated straight men to the genius comedy duo that is Sholmes and Dazai? lmao (also Iris and Kyouka and their bunnies 🥹)

I need to play Hatoful Boyfriend. I've played lots of visual novels but that one is still on my to-play list (I don't know how seriously I'll be able to take it with bird sprites instead of actual human facial expressions, even though I fully trust that it is as good as its reputation says it is, but I'll just have to see for myself lmao)

Hsjfdnvskdf ok so I don't know what keeps happening to me with TGAA because I love it so much but I can't seem to write proper meta on it so. I just keep reiterating how much I like it lol. I got into it a bit later - I knew it existed almost since it came out in Japan but since I hadn't played original Ace Attorney, I avoided it for a long time. Then I saw a playthrough of the fan translation Case 1 and was hooked. By that point, I knew there was going to be a full English release so I waited for that because I wanted so badly to play it through! It's such a good game.

Oh, Graydon was interesting. That case was really fun, if it weren't for the fact that I figured out the key evidence really early and I kept trying to present it too soon aojsbsidhb. Graydon as a character was great because he's exactly as he appears but then there's just that bit more that fleshes him out and made him the slightest bit more sympathetic while not detracting from his actions. He was cool. (I actually had an idea for an after trial fic with him and the Skulkins but I don't think I'll ever get around to writing it :/)

Oh yeah I flipped out when I saw Natsume - my whole brain stopped (this was before my BSD obsession btw so this was very strange to me lol) and I shrieked out "NATSUME SOSEKI???" and my mom from the other room was just "???". yeah. And then he showed up again in BSD and I just said "...hi Natsume".

My favourites are the Mikotobas! Both Susato and Yuujin! They're such sweet people aghhhhh they deserve the world. But I really love all the main cast tbh. Ryuunosuke is such a dork but there's real personality to him, Sholmes is the perfect adaptation of that character, Gina should get all the puppies and friends she wants, and though I have some mixed feelings on him, I hope van Zieks gets a fucking break at some point (or just keep friendly tormenting him. I think it's good for him actually. unlearn your prejudices and relearn how to smile, you edgy vampire man.). Kazuma's arc was excellent and I wish so badly we could've gotten a true reunion scene with less of the baggage... actually, thinking about Kazuma for too long makes me ill. You essentially watch him break in the middle of court and it sucks. It sucks man.

And Iris was a standout character to me because her archetype could've so easily been bland or annoying but instead she's a realistic kid who happens to be a genius and she's kind and gets sad and angry and has depth and I would give her a big hug.

In terms of case specific characters, I liked Haori/Rei a lot, just because her dynamic with Susato was so silly and she's a cool gifted forensics student! She's awesome! I want to see her again!

However, my favourite was Olive. OLIVE. I adore her and I adore the twist with her. God she's so passive aggressive. Like damn. Have I mentioned that I adore her character? If Olive has only 1 fan then I am that fan. I wished we had gotten to consult with her again, even though that wouldn't have made much sense... just because she was interesting to me and I would've liked to have seen her character more fleshed out.

I'd really love to see a lot of these characters again. I've seen some people talking about Kazuma Asougi Investigations but tbh I'd really like to see Susato Mikotoba Investigations with Haori and Yuujin helping out! It'd be neat to see more Meiji Japan and Susato continue to grow as a character in her own right, since she started that journey in Chronicles. Oh well. I know that's a pipe dream but still.

I bet Kyouka would really find Iris's inventions fascinating and love to listen to how they work and stuff! I think they'd get along tbh. The idea of Sholmes and Dazai ever interacting terrifies me. Keep them away from each other. Please.

As for Hatoful, I am biased but I'd say it is well worth a playthrough. Given you like both DGS and BSD, I'd say you'll probably like it. My mom (who has also played it) and I were chatting about it recently and thinking that weirdly enough, BSD gives us a lot of the same vibes... like it's nowhere near identical, but that kind of desperate darkness where the characters are not who they appear to be at first and everyone has a different motive for doing what they do, but it's also not taking itself too seriously and it's still kinda silly... yeah. Same feel. It's better to go in with no expectations but I'm thinking of making a post later about why people should play that game... it's still one of my favourites of all time.

About the stock bird images: I know it's weird. I know it's weird that they're birds. But the best part of this game - to me, anyways - is that for as much as it is a gag, the story leans into it so heavily that you will quickly realize the main plot only makes logical sense if the main cast are birds and the player the only human. Like, it literally would not make sense otherwise. Please play it. It's wacky, it's zany, the characters have a good amount of depth, it's mildly traumatizing, it's one of the best things I've played and I feel it's become an inscrutable part of my identity. I am still obsessed with it many years later. That almost never happens to me. It's that good.

okay here are my thoughts on the great ace attorney games: they’re good.

i like the fact that they’re distinct from the trilogy. on top of being a lazy pc-player snob, the main reason i have not yet touched apollo, athena, and kurain people is because it feels too much like the trilogy for me. i am someone who thought that trials and tribulations and justice for all were superfluous when i first finished the phoenix wright trilogy. so i didn’t necessarily feel like revisiting the same cast.

the tgaa characters were pretty fun. i loved susato as an assistant (and while naruhodo is basically milk, he’s the zanier one of the two) and she felt very distinct from maya; van zieks was a dick but he was a dick who cared about justice unlike worthy and franny at their outsets (the most realistic thing about this game is how his racism actively works against justice in the soseki cases even when he cares about justice.) i love sholmes (”i said i knew a smattering of japanese!”) and the game is a real love letter to sir arthur conan doyle’s stories.

especially with the reveal that his real partner was mikotoba (which makes susato’s admiration for him like 10x more hilarious), it does feel like the main idea for this game was “man what if japanese people like us got to hang out sherlock holmes, that’s awesome.” and you know what. it certainly feels awesome to play through. 

and it’s very nice to tie in such a classic series with ace attorney, precisely because the games are so detached from reality anyways. take for example ace attorney’s view of justice and the purpose of courtrooms as a sort of socratic exercise to find the truth. the main motivation behind this is obviously to intensify the feelings of catching people’s conflicting stories with evidence, but it also puts this glossy, idealized sheen over everything in the series.

you’re not actually in the historic British or the Japanese Empires; this is the epcot version of all these things, and it’s fun to be in epcot. ace attorney is a funny lawyer game and even at its worst it never has any pretentions about tacking Big Issues.

(if you’re wondering how i feel about the “oh xyz character is a COLONIZER!!!!” discourse surrounding this game, that’s it in a nutshell lmao.)

weirdly i disliked the first two cases of the first game and the last two cases of the last game. i found the twist with kazuma and the TRUE story of the professor to be... kind of underwhelming, honestly. kazuma’s arc of Becoming a Prosecutor has no real emotional weight to it; he spends like two cases defending a dead person from the prosecution stand and stays a prosecutor because.... uh.... there was darkness inside him? it’s just not really compelling drama compared to von karma raising edgeworth to be the thing his father would have hated, for instance. 

similarly the true story of what happened and how it panned out felt oddly by-the-numbers, and stronghart was basically shitty damon gant. i don’t remember a single thing about stronghart besides the one moment he takes like 6 literal hours of your day to talk to you about forensics. and he’s so much more powerful than damon gant; if you remember, gant was just the chief of police, stronghart was literally so powerful he could pull diplomatic strings, and while gant’s actions and mistakes made sense, stronghart’s decisions feel extremely weird when you think about it for two seconds.

but even in those cases, which i found wanting, i really appreciated how, for instance, the last case incorporated the investigation mechanics in a new way, how the second case of the first game tried something with it being only investigations, etc etc. in general the structure of the cases was much harder to predict and it made each one structurally very different and memorable.

one other thing i liked is that the characters feel three-dimensional they way they were in the original ace attorney one. one gripe i had with the trilogy is that slowly characters just degraded/got flanderized over time. it doesn’t happen here; almost every character ends this duology with more aspects to them than what they started with. aside from sholmes, who i really liked because he was a funny idiot genius, my other favorite character is actually gregson. he doesn’t have a dramatic backstory or anything, but i feel like he was pretty multifaceted as it goes.

the jury system was a good addition and it was something that was much better in tgaa2 than in tgaa1, where the juries’ whole shtick was “oops!!!! i am deeply involved in this case!!!” as opposed to them being other perspectives in the courtroom. i really disliked the jurors in tgaa1, which wasn’t helped by the amounts of summation examinations we had to endure in that game. in tgaa2 they were much better; it’s a shame that we only had them for 2 cases there.

other than that; it’s a blast, i really liked it and it really made itself different than what came before. there are other nitpicks/small elements i could praise, but it’s like very late and i’m tired.

it's 'sad funny' to me because throughout the show, Our Japanese-Filipino Bestie vito constantly tells his love interest that he'll become a stronger person and he'll become better to protect her- yk that whole spiel. the problem with this is that Even Literally Hours Before He's Due To Be Executed For Murder, he's still telling her this when it's like... throughout the series Literally Every Episode or every other episode he's crying and having to rely on other people. there's nothing wrong with crying or needing help but he never sticks up for himself or does thing on his own, he ALWAYS ends up getting help or needing help.

the one time he DOES stand up for himself and protect her he's being punished for it Aka Being Put On Trial For Murder and it just leaves a really weird taste in my mouth. usually when you watch a show or movie you're waiting for some kind of character development but for our guy, it's not really there and it's just kind of sad to watch. but funny because he keeps saying he'll get better. but mostly sad.

i think i understand the angle of 'being a foreigner/perceived as a foreigner in japan is so arduous it can make someone not want to put in the effort, or theyre too scared to'- a type of Learned Helplessness right. but he's our protagonist: we're meant to see him stand up to these prejudices and want to advocate for himself, and tell us 'hey, just because things ARE this way doesn't mean they should be and it's right'. it's only because of kazuma (our Spoilers Korean-Japanese friend) that he's able to be acquitted for the death penalty- a penalty he wanted to accept because of the murder he committed (btw the guy he killed was the biggest jackass ever. like irredeemable. like he got vito in jail years ago and kidnapped him prior to his murder and wanted to put ANOTHER assault charge on him)

- Honestly? Even though they did kazubisha as a ship dirty, this is probably the best send off Kazuma could get. He’s finally at peace. He’s happy. That pure, baby smile at the end, when he realizes his real name, that he had people who loved him for /him/, not his abilities or what he could do for them...I mean, he was finally at peace. The whole crux and tension of Kazuma’s relationship with Bisha and others was “How can I best serve them?” In his mind, Kazuma was only worth something to Bisha because he was a hafuri (which is NOT true, but he never knew otherwise bc Bisha was crap at communicating or showing affection). The closest familial relationship he had on the Far Shore was with Yukine, which he screwed up royally, and Yato, who (again) needed him to sacrifice himself and serve as Yato’s shield.

Even though I, as a reader, really *really* wanted Kazuma and Bisha to reunite, wanted some angst and horrible-ness to get them together finally and have Bisha confess....Kazuma as a character deserved better than that. He deserved to be at peace. And if that means dying and returning as an untethered soul so that he can be reincarnated and re-enter the cycle of life and death, well, then I’m okay with that. He died without his karma destroying him, he died at peace with his past, he died happy he could reunite with his real family again.

And what will happen to Bisha? Bisha, who had been trying and struggling, all this time, to create a fake family? She’s gonna have to confront that she was never enough to make Kazuma truly happy. And *that* is going to be devastating.

(At the same time, selfishly, I hope I’m wrong, and that Kazuma just returned to Bisha again, and that this is a fake out. But narratively, Kazuma being at peace is the best ending Adachitoka could give him.)

(STRIKE THAT the best ending they could give him is him FINALLY hooking up with Bisha AND THEN being at peace but then this wouldn’t be a very good manga lololol *sobs*)

ETA: Also, way to go Adachitoka for subverting our expectations AGAIN! They were like, “Let’s set up this tragic unrequited arc...and HAHAHA GUESS WHAT IT’S FOREVER UNREQUITED lmao.” I bet they high fived each other in the studio orz (but seriously, his send off was beautiful and totally befitting of a character that suffered so much. Aggh my heart :( )

How I feel about this character: Yuujin is such a king... He has that particular appeal of the mature man who’s been through a lot and who saw everything, yet he never left any of it get to him but who, to the contrary, worked hard to do his best and make up for his mistakes... He did so much to help anyone he could help, he gave a second chance to both Kazuma and Iris, he raised Kazuma as his own son and if he could have, he’d have done the same with Iris too without any second thought ;; He knew he messed up badly when he left his newborn without going back to her for six years but from there onward he never missed a day of her life and had been always on her side, how many fathers go back to their children instead of choosing the easy way and totally disappear? He suffered a lot and he never meant to left Susato alone but he never justifies himself either... He’s not perfect but he does his best and I love him so much for this ;; whenever he’s needed he’ll be there, no wonder he’s the only person Sherlock trusts... It’s the unconditional love and trust he gives and inspires that made me fall for him

one thing I wish would happen/had happened with this character in canon: I want the Mikotobas to be happy so I’m glad he and Susato reunited, now I want Kazuma to reunite with Yuujin too but also with Ryuu and it’s lovely to think of when it will be Iris and Sherlock’s time to go to Japan, the whole family spending their holidays in Japan is the sweetest scenario :’)

to me, the ending to 01 Fruits Basket is only as bad as it is canon divergent. otherwise, I really have no problem with it. In fact, I love it. Is it the canon ending to the story? No, but I don’t care it still made me bawl when I was 11 and makes me cry to this day so to everyone who’s cranky about all the canon divergence in the 01 anime just go re-read the manga & enjoy your canon compliant reboot with its bad cinematography I’m trying to have my hot girl summer over here with my canon divergent, mischaracterized Fruits Basket because at least it makes me feel something. 

but, anyway lemme just crack my knuckles real quick & get tf into it 

readmore for everyone else who doesn’t want my play-by-play but I really think you’re gonna want my play-by-play

SO like a lot of anime that came out in the 2000s they were all adaptations of unfinished manga which left a lot of questions not only unanswered but ... alternatively answered. AKA they deviated from the source material in minor to major MAJOR ways. 

When the 01 Fruits Basket anime originally aired the manga had only been released up to volume seven which was as far as Ritsu’s character introduction. So the climax of the 01 anime revolves around the reveal of Kyo’s true form. Which, in hindsight, we know is not even half of Fruits Basket. But, because it was the conclusion to a 26 episode anime they had to tie up a lot of unfinished ends. 

The last 3 episodes of the anime covers this: Kazuma’s arrival, Kyo running off into the woods after his true form is revealed, Kyo & Kazuma’s backstory & the story of Kazuma’s grandfather, & then Tohru goes after him and everyone is fine again : )  Where the story deviates is: 

The issue isn’t resolved as quickly as it is in the manga because Tohru runs into the woods after Kyo, is shaken up, gets sick --- but then Akito shows up to rub her misery in her face because she “deserves” it for involving herself with the Sohmas in the first place. 

Then Shigure shows up, wards Akito off, & starts crying on behalf of Tohru and this ordeal she has to go through. (Since you are asking me this question in the first place I’m assuming you have never seen the 01 anime --- any and all of Shigure’s scheming & darkness is completely exempt; the goofier aspects of his character are way more played up, mostly for comic relief, and he’s really nestled into the guardian role with no ulterior motives or anything. And, clearly expresses more empathy for Tohru). 

 Tohru, discouraged by Akito’s words and second guessing whether or not she even belongs with the Sohmas because she’s feeling way in over her head with Kyo’s true form, goes to her mother’s grave for comfort. (A LOT of people are upset that she doesn’t go to Kyo right away just like the manga --- I personally don’t mind the deviation, but I digress) Hana and Uo show up after Hana ~sensed~ that they just needed to be there. Tohru’s really moping about it, REALLY set on not being able to go back. Uo tries to console her but Hana INSISTS that ~whatever it is~ that Tohru needs to do, she’s the only one who can do it and at one point she PUSHES Uo to stop her from consoling Tohru it’s wild. 

Eventually Tohru realizes yeah, Hana is right. She’s gotta do this --- so she does go to Kyo & the rest of the scene unfolds just like the manga EXCEPT --- and this is my favorite part --- 

while all this was going on, Yuki & Kagura were having a conversation inside the house about how the cat and the rat hate each other and Kagura is like “But...who decided it had to be that way???” 

So BEST thing in the world BEST 👏🏻 THING 👏🏻 

YUKI GOES AFTER KYO TOO. Tohru’s there, Yuki’s there, the gang is all fuckin here & Tohru is trying to reach Kyo but he’s being aggressive and dismissive and tries to run away bUT OH NO YUKI FUCKING GRABS HIM & WRESTLES HIS MONSTER ASS TO THE GROUND, ROLLING AROUND IN THE DIRT AND SCREAMING ABOUT HOW “IS THIS ALL WE DO? RUN AWAY? WELL I DON’T WANNA DO IT ANYMORE” it’s fucking beautiful and THEN Yuki is like “TOHRU YOU GOTTA TELL HIM THE TRUTH YOU HAVE TO TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL” 

So then cue Tohru saying what she says in canon & her and Kyo have their moment, he hugs her, she carries a crying cat home --- its beat for beat. Only they get back and Shigure is so relieved he’s laughing about it --- in context it’s pretty wholesome IMHO you just gotta suspend the right disbelief if you’re not butthurt about it 

ANYWAY 

we’re not done yet

The next morning Tohru asks Shigure if she can go to see Akito and long story short they all go -- Shigure’s all dressed up in a suit all nice, Yuki is there, Hatori is there it’s a real fuckin come up (Kyo is stuck waiting outside). 

Akito is being tempestuous as fuck, and asks Tohru why she showed up. When she says “I don’t know” Akito lashes out and grabs a fistful of her hair tO WHICH SHIGURE & YUKI RUSH TO HER DEFENSE AND RESTRAIN AKITO. So it’s dramatic, right our girl Tohru is in Akito’s clutches (oh -- who btw is male in this anime because the manga never published the gender reveal. & also he is not ‘god’ per say, but bears the “full weight of the zodiac curse” which is deduced to an explanation of “he doesn’t have much longer to live and that was decided at birth” weird ik just work with me here). 

Tohru immediately begins to empathize with Akito, try to connect with him over getting him to ~talk about his feelings~ saying “it must have been sad and scary to know you were going to die” At first he’s not having it, throwing a bitch fit and ordering Hatori to erase Tohru’s memories (which he WONT) BUT THEN to EVERYONE’S SURPRISE AKITO OPENS UP it’s some real melodrama. 

So he lets Tohru go, everyone is relieved that their best girl made it out alive, she’s allowed to go on living with Shigure & the boys and they can keep being a little cute found family, and then Hatori & Shigure say something about how even though she doesn’t think so, Tohru made a difference going to see Akito that day & that’s it that’s the end.

In TGAA, the university Ryunosuke and Kazuma attended together is called Yumei University. Considering the way they attempted to use the name as a pun in the official English flavor text was a real stretch, I have to assume they probably just kept the name from the original Japanese.

I'm unsure if the original name of the university was written with a long "u" or a short "u," because the official localization didn't keep the long vowels (already made a different post before it came out about why people flipping out about that is kind of an overreaction), but regardless I'm almost certain this pun was intentional. "Yuumei" in Japanese means "famous."
