I think something I miss a lot when reading Wild centered fics in the LU fandom is that I don’t see a lot of people exploring the core of Wild’s character- curiosity. Whether this is innate to his personality or an aspect of him developed through the loss of his memories- this kid is curious about everything. He climbs trees to find eggs, experiments and innovates in combat, jumps or interacts with the things around him that appear slightly off. Sure, he has experience and can be practical, but he is also absolutely climbing the walls while the others are having a conversation (with Wind and Hyrule cheering him on).

I also think people tend to make him really sad and angsty- and that’s fair! But honestly Wild is just a bit of a silly goose in my head. Sure, his story features a lot of heartache, but he’s generally very open and kind and friendly! He gives little waves when referenced, giggles when sleeping on a waterbed, and helps anyone he comes across.

I also think he’s someone that just- stays in his lane unless he finds out he can do something for others. He will watch siblings fight or argue and just chill until he’s addressed in a conversation. He’s very “go with the flow” (even if that does make him also a bit distractible lmao) and doesn’t seem to shy away from bluntly letting people know the information they need, even if we imagine it might be hard to discuss.

I really think he only goes stone faced when experiencing fear and anxiety- other than that he’s goofy and fun and kind!

I do absolutely love the canon that he’s selectively mute- boy has a severe anxiety disorder- but I think it’s mostly triggered by the idea of expectations placed on him. I imagine he has a hard time communicating vocally with the chain when he realizes that they’re heroes. I do think he would have a lot of survivors guilt and subsequent insecurities on his placement within the group- but that doesn’t mean he’s not still naturally upbeat in disposition.

Idk I have a lot of thoughts on Wild because I love him very much. I’m planning to actually write a character analysis for the fic I’m writing at the moment so maybe I’ll post that for funsies.

We have a theory, and it's not sitting well with us. If you wanna curse, here is the person @whispersoflullaby. This theory is our joint brainchild.

It's about Lu Guang. We started talking about his parents but ended up formulating such a godforsaken theory that I invite people to spot loopholes in our theory and prove us wrong. The more you make our theory unstable, the happier we will be. Please don't be mean. That's all. So, first, we theorize that Lu Guang had a dysfunctional family. His mother died in front of him when he was seven years old, and he inherited his mother’s power; the trauma of his mother's death triggered his powers. Now, his godforsaken monster of a father (it's my general hatred towards absolutely undeserving father figures talking) noticed his powers and said, 'Whoa, I can use him!' I mean, no, he didn't exactly say that, but it’s not unusual for people who view their child as profit-making things rather than, you know, a child...to think in a twisted manner. Lu Guang mentioned that his father took him to someone after discovering his powers. What we think is that Lu Guang, that seven-year-old kid, probably got involved in a shady criminal spying institution where he was used to extract information from photos (his father sent him?). Now, this institution may or may not be that eye institution. Lu Guang is definitely linked to that Bahati fire incident, directly or indirectly. I headcanon that Lu Guang comes from a rival institution, as a really, really secret underground agent. He was made to be an agent at a very young age and, of course, without his consent. Lu Guang’s powers are horrific; if I know your 12-hour daily routine from a few photos, I can actually form a very neat plan and kill you without much hassle. It's also an extreme breach of privacy. His powers are more related to surveillance than time travel, to be honest. I also like to think that he has some strong connection with someone in that said institution.

Whisper said that it's easier to coerce a child than a teenager. When Lu Guang got older, he read more and more literature and expanded his perspectives which made him more aware about his situations and his position in the power nexus. He could not blindly follow a morally good path because it's not viable but he could try. Lu Guang's parents are a complete mystery but he lives in such a house- idk 😶 he does seem to be a spy.

His power and genius were exploited, but it also made him desirable. Then… probably, PROBABLY, he was sent to spy on Cheng Xiaoshi as well. As much as I like to believe that Lu Guang simply brought the camera to the basketball court to strike a conversation with his crush… I can't really—uhm. The way Lu Guang just settled into Hero Photo Studio seems very strategic. But he probably tried to be protective of Cheng Xiaoshi. He realized he had fallen for Cheng Xiaoshi, and things went kind of downhill from there. Lu Guang's dynamic with that institution should be pretty complex.

This theory explains a few things -

Lu Guang’s parents. If that happened, then it's natural that Lu Guang would not have any living family members with whom he had a connection.

Lu Guang seems to have a guilt that pierces deeper than just Cheng Xiaoshi’s death. I don't know; I can feel it. It's like he has very little time. He will protect Cheng Xiaoshi until his last breath; he will stay as long as Cheng Xiaoshi needs him there. But after that? In Yingdu episode 1, Lu Guang says to Cheng Xiaoshi, 'I can't promise you that I'll live with you forever, but as long as you need me, I'll be here.' Why does Lu Guang phrase those two sentences as if they are contradictory? Only if Lu Guang knows that he won't be able to live happily with Cheng Xiaoshi after ensuring that he survives could he make Cheng Xiaoshi’s life more endangered.This theory actually elevates the potential for angst. What if Cheng Xiaoshi actually knew about Lu Guang's secret but still believed in him, and Lu Guang inherited his memory before his death? This makes him more deranged. Actually, Cheng Xiaoshi’s statement, "how precious it is to have a trustworthy partner in life," sounds very haunting. It feels as if Cheng Xiaoshi is being a bit sarcastic; the sentence is somewhat ironic. Cheng Xiaoshi knows Lu Guang more than Lu Guang knows himself. Now, this rambling is angsty. I don't strongly theorize about this, but the first portion… yes.

Xia Fei is somewhat of a dork, his cool/arrogant attitude that we see in his shootings and most official artworks seems more and more like an act, while the somewhat whiny, a bit hyperactive persona seems... legit?

Like. I can see him acting like that with Shiguang, but why would he act like that with Liu Xiao? Or Vein? Vein, who told Liu Xiao that you (he?) can read what's on Xia Fei's mind on his face (and immediately proven right lol). Vein, who also DISLIKES LYING?? Uh. Yeah, so that was a bit of a surprise on his character sheet??

Edit: Since it has been brought up that his song heavily implies that already: I didn't interpret it that way. I read it as he's open with/about his intentions and doesn't (need to) lie to win in a fight, and that it's useless to lie to him since he will see through it anyway. I guess I can see how this can be read as having strong principles about lying.

Though my gf pointed out that he probably doesn't like being lied to, which, tbf, is a different thing lol. But point still stands, so, do I have to assume that Xia Fei just is... LIKE THAT? (I don't mind, I love that he's silly lol)

Ok, so. Vein. Vein, hng, I have no idea what to make of him, tbh. His PV shows him as this unhinged, creepy menace (and that's also what we see in Lu Guang's nightmares/memories. "What? You want more punishment?"), we see him like a bit of a stalker in Xia Fei's PV, and... what we see in canon is...

We see him fight Shiguang and try to shoot Lu Guang, shooting Cheng Xiaoshi in the process. We still don't know WHY he's doing that (two more episodes to go... how is that gonna work out 😭). We also see him save Xia Fei from those assholes trying to freaking DROWN him.

The first thing he says to Cheng Xiaoshi is "You look tasty", and... uh, yeah, that's odd, don't say that, ESPECIALLY not in that tone omfg. But to Xia Fei he says "What, that was supposed to be a compliment!"

We see him flick off Xia Fei's forehead, and then petting his head. ... ok, that was cute, what the hell is your relationship???

We don't see, but we know that he told Liu Xiao about Xia Fei's upcoming birthday? Why, what was the context here?? |D

His character sheet is, uh... something? Like, I get that LC has a tendency to keep stuff from us, so we don't officially KNOW that (if???) he actually is a mob boss, so it only says he owns a model agency and is head of the chinese chamber of commerce?

(sending myself an ask I got on Retrospring a while back because I was able to get a really interesting answer with help from a friend and I think more people need to be aware of this stuff. the original asker was anonymous and this question was sparked because I was compiling Hong Lu's lines for something and noticed just how many tildes and ellipsis he uses... and that it was making its way into my own typing patterns lmao)

about the hong lu ellipsis/tilde thing: i remember hearing an offhand comment from a kr speaker that hong lu's speech quirk is talking girlishly, and while i am not an expert in korean by any means, i've read that women tend to speak softer and more passively, drag out their last syllables (probably the reason for all the tildes), and end their statements with rhetorical question tags more often, among other things. it's unfortunately generally theorized this is a result of misogyny in korean culture. i wish i could say more but i really don't know korean and i don't how it compares to like, everyone else in the cast

This was interesting to me and i’m lucky enough to know someone who natively speaks korean and plays limbus in kr so i asked him about it! All credit to Ciel @/10seisan for this incoming text wall :)

Here’s what he had to say:

I, too, read that Hong Lu’s tone and speech patterns as being more feminine. Specifically, I would describe his tone as sounding like a mixture of customer service and feminine speech, if that makes sense. His vocal inflexions are more noticeable and they tend to go upwards in pitch, which is associated with feminine speech patterns. I would say that what the asker sent about how women tend to speak here is accurate, and I think that misogyny plays a large role in it as well. As an example, the passive speaking, we have the word 돌려서 말하다, which means “to indirectly speak about a topic” or “beat around the bushes”. This is somewhat expected for people of all genders in formal situations to be polite, but women tend to do it more often and in less formal situations as well due to societal pressure to not seem “aggressive” by coming across “too strong”. Tangents aside, Hong Lu’s tildes in the text corresponds to the voice lines where he drags out syllables, speaks more softly, and/or has a particularly noticeable rise in inflexion at the end of a sentence, so they certainly are indicative of his feminine mannerisms in speech. As for the ellipses, this depends more on the context, since they can be used simply to indicate pauses, but I wouldn’t be surprised if at least some of them coincided with something specific to his speech mannerisms as well. As for how he compares to the other sinners, I would say that, in some ways, his speech sounds similar to Rodya’s, actually—more so than the other sinners. Especially when it comes to the (canonically) male sinners, his speech is not at all similar to any of them. Yi Sang may be the closest if I were required to choose—solely due to his voice being on the softer side—but even then, Yi Sang has very little inflexion and typically ends his sentences with a fall in pitch, unlike Hong Lu

This is all really interesting to me because as an english speaker (and as a person who tends to tune out vocal performance in general, esp if it’s foreign) i can only catch some of it. The delivery on Hong Lu’s lines make sense, especially when taking his background from his source book into account. (whether you want to purely read this as overly formal speech bc of the whole “family is like a cohort of kin looking for a chance to stab you in the back” thing or you want to read gender in it is up to you)

The fact it’s most similar to Rodya’s speech patterns is interesting too… I notice this in the english text as well (i’ve seen people mistake abnormality log text written by Hong Lu for Rodya and vice versa on numerous occasions) Rodya plays up her feminity a lot as a mask so it makes a lot of sense that it’s the closest to Hong Lu’s but still. very interesting. I’m a huge fan of their dynamic in general but that’s a tangent for a different ask, it’ll just be interesting to see if/what can make Hong Lu drop those speaking patterns…

I believe you may or may not have awnsered a similar ask, but as i read chaos theory i'm sitting here like "oh damn, y/n is really blowing this poor man's mind, heart and soul to oblivion with the knowledge that she genuinely loves him and his affections aren't unrequited or driven by guilt" like damn Rev, you and y/n are going all out on poor vincent there. Anywho, question if we get more content from Square Enix (i pray we do, i really do i feel starved for vincent now) that primarily involves vincent more, are we gonna get to see our man grapple with this knowledge and come to the understanding that the love he's developed with y/n definitely isn't one-sided once you're able sink claws into the new content and flesh out your story? Are we also gonna see his demons come out and play a bit more as well when that happens? I love myself some chaos "scares" and well, i'm kinda itching to see if we get some other demon "scares" sprinkled in èwé

Good questions Anon, this is a huge one so I’ll answer it bit by bit lol.

To start with, I have absolutely left some breadcrumbs in Chaos Theory that hint at some of the other plot things that are going on. These hints are incredibly subtle, maybe too subtle honestly lmao, but I have seen them mentioned in comments so 😅. I do intend to reveal some important plot stuff in the sequel covering the Temple of the Ancients. I’m talking shocking stuff lmao, so that’s definitely coming even if SE doesn’t give us any more Vincent content until part 3.

Without knowing where SE are going to go with part 3, I have a bunch of plot ideas that are somewhat vague, so that I can fill them in with specifics eventually. Unfortunately this means that even when I reveal stuff, it’s still gonna be kind of vague 😭😭. So apologies for that.

I also want to add that while I obviously want to finish this story, I can’t exactly commit to writing another fic once part 3 comes out in 3 years time. So, I am apologising in advance that this story might never end up finished.

Specifically with regards to your question, yes Vincent would have to come to terms with allllll of that lol. I mentioned in a previous ask that as long as the timeline works out, their initial “I love you’s” would be just after visiting Lucrecia in her cave. Emotions at that point would be exceptionally high, and Vincent is forced to make a choice and confront his own feelings.

Like, just consider that conversation for a sec. Because Reader knows a lot of Vincent’s backstory by that stage, it’s not just about him having to make a choice about clinging to the past or moving forward. It’s also coming to terms about what Lu(sexually and experimentally) and Hojo(experimentally) did to him, which he only really does in Dirge in canon. Reader is also smart enough to connect the dots on her own that he might be Seph’s father too. There’s just a whole host of things there and there’s no way I’d ever let Vincent get away with not coming to terms with all of it 😂.

With regards to his monsters, of course they would be making more appearances. I love them and I’m way too much of a monster fucker to ignore them. Each of them would get their own time in the spotlight hehehe.

Honestly they’re one of the main reasons I’m reluctant to commit to a part 3 fic. As a quick example, Chaos Theory has 7 smut scenes. Any sequel would need each monster, the love confession and then an “Under the Highwind” end of the world scene. Thats 6 before we even start on them just having fun and exploring each other, and you know, the actual plot lmao.

Time to exercise my masochistic tendencies and see if this is the episode when I finally quit this disaster. The blatant unacknowledged rape in the last episode has brought me to the edge and I need only one firm push to abandon ship.

Before anyone accuses me of being a hypocrite, no, in-text rape has never stopped me from watching something before, and, yes, I have enjoyed plenty of non-con in my drama-watching/fic-reading career, but there are at least two reasons why it disgusted me here. 

It was NOT ACKNOWLEDGED for what it was. Instead, it was portrayed as  a) “romantic” and b) a girlboss power move where I was supposed to be cheering for Sang Jiu finding her ~agency~ and ~getting her due~, which would never have been allowed to fly without it being clear that it was a VIOLATION if the genders had been reversed. Imagine if a woman had asked for a divorce (regardless of whether her reasons were stupid or not), told her husband to leave their marital home, proceeded to get drunk in the privacy of her own bedroom, and he snuck in when she was incapacitated, drugged her some more and “took what was owed to him” while she couldn’t even speak to tell him no? I have been thoroughly spoiled for this drama and have seen gifs of this particular scene so many times and yet NOT ONCE have I seen people mention the rape or warn for it in any capacity! Which brings me to my second point.

I WAS EXPECTING FLUFF!! As much as appreciate non-con when I willingly seek it out, I do not appreciate being blindsided by it. Just no.

It's Kinda Nice to Help People Find Their Precious Thing : The timeless journey of love, regret, trust, death and hope through Shiguang's life in Link Click Yingdu Episode 1

It's a very personal rambling actually, not a very critically sound one, if you still wanna read, just letting you know, you are not alone, I went through a lifetime of emotions while watching this.

What’s wrong with the timeline? : Before discussing this, I want to talk about Lu Guang’s age. I have this formula,

Lg’s age : X + 3n, X= his original age, n= the number of times he has dived back in the past to reach the situation of our timeline where Cheng Xiaoshi survived season 1 and made it to the end of the season 2. I am presuming that ‘n times Cheng Xiaoshi dies’ stopped in our timeline, so let us denote our timeline as ‘n*’, which has successfully changed Cheng Xiaoshi’s fate. (For people thinking, where did I get that ‘3’ in my formula, the episode of the lost child in season 1 says that the kidnapping of that little boy happened three years ago, when Shiguang were supposed to be in Yingdu. Basically Shiguang first met and went to Yingdu in 2018.)

The first four minutes of the episode 1 (Successfully made me cry like a wounded hyena left in the middle of a cold desert): What timeline is it? It is one of those timelines of ‘n’ where Cheng Xiaoshi died. Cheng Xiaoshi dies in every nth timeline, except n*. The first time he dies, let us call that timeline ‘n0’. And the first four minutes, let’s suppose it is nEp-1. Is n0 = nEp-1? If yes, then why Vein is punishing Lu Guang for changing the past? It implies that Lu Guang attempted (and succeeded kind of? since he is accused of changing the past) to change the past before? Why would he? For what reason? I have an answer to this convoluted question – Vein is punishing a past Lu Guang (‘innocent’ Lu Guang who didn’t dive and do shit) for the deeds a future Lu Guang committed. Eh? Every theory I suggest contradict with the thing I say next.

Still what I feel is that the narrator Lu Guang who gives the ‘butterfly effect’ speech is not the one who dives in the given visual. The hesitation in the visual suggests that Lu Guang is diving for the first time. I don’t have galaxy brains to understand the timeline theory anyways. And it is probably too early to start guessing.

Basketball symbolism: Life, death, trust, partnership.

I think now we all understand that the basketball motif really stands for a deeper philosophy of life and companionship. And Haoling actually puts that theme in big fat words in case someone missed, “It is so precious to have a trustworthy partner in life”. It is not about basketball. The exposition of first 1 minute 25 seconds deals with it.

1:26 – I howled. That’s not the point. The point is that Vein is actually interested in shooting Lu Guang, he wants his life, not Cheng Xiaoshi’s, he just physically defeats him. (My poor kitty, what the fuck did you do to deserve this, if my theory is right then…). Cheng Xiaoshi fucking dives to take the bullet.

Now, um. Why am I re-watching this? Cheng Xiaoshi dies and transfers his diving power to Lu Guang, the basketball symbolism recurs. Qiao Ling is dead and captain Xiao is dead too. Good. Cheng Xiaoshi says sorry for some reason and asks Lu Guang to save ‘them’, it’s his death wish. So, I am presuming that Lu Guang started diving because it was Cheng Xiaoshi’s last wish to Lu Guang (I need ibuprofen). From my perspective, Lu Guang when he dives, he is not sure what he is able to achieve. He probably goes back to the past just to relive those moments, those three years again. If everything goes well (LMAO my audacity) and Cheng Xiaoshi survives in this Yingdu arc, I am presuming that is our story then will be directly continuing in the two seasons.

Now let us heal a bit. First of all, congratulations to all, Lu Guang is gay. I don’t care what anyone opines, he is gay. He is the owner of that freaking Shakespearean sonnet book and he is the literal tsundere, come on, guys, it should be canon now.

Lu Guang holds his hand as if trying to say, “Please, don’t go”.

Now I am saying again, I am Sapphic and Qiao Ling, that is Sapphic behaviour, my love, me and my Sapphic friends approve. “That girl is so lovely” the way she says it. AND YES QUEEN! Link Click never forgets to address social issues. Btw, I personally related to that girl when she was rebuked vehemently for voicing her career choice. My acceptance of what I really wanted to do in my life and pursuing it changed the trajectory of my life too. Life is not a flower path but “there are no regrets in dedicating your life to something you care about” – again it echoes the central theme of link click.

Also, (with a shiver) I am realising how the interpretation of the first and second season is rapidly changing (and I like it).

Lu Guang has this deep sense of lack of agency, understandable because it arises from the agony of the death of a loved one and this depressive existentialist mood makes him conform to the ‘power’, even though he can be rebellious but that threshold is only initiated with Cheng Xiaoshi’s active intervention.

Again saying, idk what kind of concept of queerness people (most of them who are not queer at all, how do they know what queerness is? How are you dictating?) have, but your friend’s image reflecting in your eyes when he brings a moral and ideological change to your mind and shatters your conformity, that surely is. This continuously happens in season 1 and 2, but we don’t get to know, you know why? Lu Guang’s pov was silenced deliberately. Without him soliloquizing, it’s impossible to know what his real emotional undercurrent is. The way Haoling crafted Lu Guang as a complex and delicate character, man. Man, I would die for him.

Btw, I too agree that putting a hand over his mouth is the second best option to silence him.

I really wonder what happened in that almost hour long time period between CXS dying and LG diving. Or did Vein think he'd die from his wound(s?) and just left him to bleed out?

And then the moment I have been waiting for.

I swear, that whole scene was heartwarming?? He felt so... so...??? IDK?? Different. Somehow more playful? I love it T___T)

I love the Chibis every now and then. And the funny faces, kinda missed that after S1. CXS and QL are such siblings, they way they ganged up on Zhou Xun... or pleaded with LG... UGH I love them. Love them so fucking much!!

I missed that, but my gf pointed out that LG's eyes were golden at first, and when he joined CXS and QL later, with the voice over about "maybe after 12h you're stuck forever", he had his normal grey eyes. And since they zoomed in on the eye to show us that, I guess she's right that the 12h are over at that point and he's now stuck. After all, he clapped at the con and was still there.

Also, CXS was WAY too relaxed about him having powers? "Wait, so you DO have powers?? Wow." Uh, not how I would've reacted lol xD but then again, he said, he felt that he had a secret and that he "knew 2 people with eyes like yours", so... uh... what does that mean, CXS? (Except that your parents probably had powers, too)

The way LG looks at him. UGH. UUUUUGH my heart can't take it.

That scene on the couch where he hugs himself... after that soft smile. yeah, why not, break my heart again, sure sure...

LU GUANG. CANONICALLY. WEARS CHENG XIAOSHI'S CLOTHES!! The fucking cat hat wasn't a present to LG, it is CXS's!! (well, maybe he gifted it him anyway, but whatever xD he originally bought it for himself! Now I wanna draw him in that outfit lol??)

There were several moments in this that gave me Live Action feels. I don't remember all of them right now, but CXS calling LG handsome/beautiful was one of them and the "we're not even together, and she's breaking up with me?? T__T" cries come to mind. idk xD Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

UUUUGH so yeah.

I really wonder if this is the current timeline or not. Or if we will see the deathscene one more time in the last episode?? Though "I'll use my last chance and go back to the beginning" kinda feels like that was the current one?? Or we will find out another reason why it might be the last chance...

Uh. Final thoughts?

It was A LOT less bad than I feared it was?? The blow from Cheng Xiaoshi's death scene was softened with all the cute and funny stuff later, so right now I actually regret not watching it before work lol

Animation quality was nice, but it's very obvious that the most of that episode's budget went into the first 10 minutes xD Not a complaint, just stating the obvious.

I like the new style, though I still think I slightly prefer Studio Lan's style? Can't even put into words exactly what it is.

Also I miss thick eyebrow Lu Guang =T Thankfully, at least the ending delivers on that front.

Lastly, I'm really not sure why they made this into one hour-long episode? It was pretty clearly meant to be two, with a very clear cut pretty much exactly in the middle, and two stories that are completed in themselves. I feel like that would've made more sense for the finale, when everything's going down? Idk.

(who knows, maybe we will still get that, so we get the full 8 episodes after all?)

I won’t go into too much detail for each and will leave out my typical rambling commentaries (my other post has enough of that *cough*) but I’ll note the genres and leave links (including to @minmoyu min’s much more detailed recs where available) for you to explore~ do watch out for the trigger warnings some of them have though (novelupdates will have more detailed tags). leaving out mxtx ones since most would be familiar with those. all art below are from fanartists on lofter, permissions for repost under the cut!

there are quite a number of titles below (and there are a lot more out there asdklfklf) but a great start would be to select based on the genres you like, and after you’ve read a few, the author’s writing styles! my quick take on the writing styles of authors I’ve read a few books of below:

huai shang: I REALLY love huai shang (*^^*)♡ she has a good balance of plot, action, humour, and mystery - and she often writes her CPs (couples) as a... very identifiable trope that I ADORE

priest: another big name in danmei and her brain is the one true galaxy brain like really plot heavy and intense and you’ll really need to focus when reading her works. another running gag for priest works is that it’s really difficult to guess who’s the top and bottom in her CPs (lmao) and her bedroom scenes (fun fact in chinese slang, these scenes are referred to as ppp or 车 “chē” literally: car) are like... blink and you’ll miss it (⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)

meatbun: ANGST QUEEN. another plot heavy author (but not as intense as priest) but she does inner thoughts and emotional scenes EXTREMELY well. a lot of 车 (opposite end of spectrum from priest) but these aren’t written for the sake of it; they actually do play a role in the plot

ok now the titles aha (disclaimer: I tend to enjoy mystery, detective, modern, and apocalyptic genres more so the titles and ratings below might are definitely skewing towards these)
