it’s very sweet seeing the scene in Equilibirum where jadzia and julian are talking alone in the cramped ship quarters at night, and julian is just.

entirely and completely devoid of his old pushy behaviour even though it’s clear he still absolutely has feelings for her at the time. taking her feelings entirely seriously because she’s his dear friend and she’s scared and confused and he unfortunately knows far more of how she’s feeling that he can let on.

(and more than the writers were aware of at this point, which makes it all the more interesting how much it comes across in that scene tbh, and places his later comments that maybe she just has lots of trauma from the institute in a different light, since with hindsight it comes across less that he’s being dismissive and more that he’s fitting her reactions into a framework more familiar to him: that of nightmares resulting from trauma that hasn’t been processed fully.)

and it very much also emphasises jadzia’s affection for julian too, that she trusts him and is going to him to share her vulnerabilities and discuss her concerns because she knows julian will listen and show sympathy and will just. let her ruminate and wallow for a bit until she feels better.

really highlights the character development and shift in their relationship dynamic.

It doesn't matter how much time passes, I am always in awe over the way that drosselmeyer is written in princess tutu. He is omnipresent from the word go, his meddling eyes watching the show with us and giggling about this wonderful tragedy that is set to unfold. Every time his eyes appear on the screen it feels not just like a god staring down the characters and making them dance to his whim, but like he is looking you, the viewer, dead in the eye and taunting you. A playwright who wants nothing but beautiful terrible tragedy for all involved inviting you to attend his latest theatrical debut.

I feel to the core of my being every time the characters lament their lot in life, doomed by the narrative, because that fate is not something ordained by uncaring gods. Drosselmeyer wants to see his characters grasp at any chance of hope or happiness only so he can watch the look on their faces as it slips from their hands and out of reach. He cares very deeply about their strife because he has hand crafted it just for them. As every episode passes I feel the desperation of the characters as if it is my own

The thought of undermining Drosselmeyer becomes insurmountably daunting, too, the longer the story goes on. The closer his work is to completion the more power he seems to hold, and the knot tightens its grip around every character in the story to a painful degree by the end. To become such an overwhelming threat as the final villain of the story is truly a work of art, and by the end of my watchthroughs I am always booing and yelling at the guy every time he comes on screen. Even though I know how the story goes I am wracked with the desire for Drosselmeyer to get his comeuppance and the cast of princess tutu to wrench their fates out of his grasp, and the catharsis of the end is as true and harrowing as any tragedy that man could hope to write.

in light of monsterfucker!noel... what if john gets a human body but sometimes turns into a Creature. what if john hides it from his boyfriends because in his head it's just proof that he'll always be a monster. what if oscar is the one who eventually finds out. what if john is fully convinced that oscar's just trying to work out how to tell arthur and noel so they can all leave john. what if oscar is actually busy carefully engineering a way for noel to find out about monster!john.

(lbr oscar is thrilled when he pulls that off. making john more comfortable/a lot less ashamed of himself would have been more than enough for him, but noel's impossible to shop for gifts for and oscar's been wracking his brain trying to come up with a birthday present for him...)

i really want to do a full lore analysis of just add magic soonish because damn i just remembered how deep it goes like that show had backstory all the way to the 1800s

unfortunately i don't really have the time to watch a whole show and take notes but it is really cool how much worldbuilding they put into the show from the spices and the book to the actual full timeline that revealed itself through the time travel spells they used

as i've said before i also want to do the same for mako mermaids, because i feel like it was quite shadowed by h20 since that show holds so much nostalgia for people and they were basically aired for two different childhood eras i think, but it has SO much story and worldbuilding that i don't see talked about very often

there is a whole backstory of mermaid politics that is just brushed over which i really want to go back and analyse it fully because it is really interesting and deserves attention! mako mermaids added so much to the overall lore of this universe and i love it dearly i just have to find time to rewatch it

i talk about both of these shows at the same time because i feel like there are a lot of similarities in which their backstories are very detailed and they have a similar plot structure (which is probably intentional given the glaringly obvious similarities between just add magic and just add water) but yeah i just feel like they deserve a more thought out deep dive into everything they have because it is so much fun to learn about
