Any tips for drawing the twin's hair please ? Whenever i draw them, i always draw Sah's as like a spiky mountain with a curtain since i dunno how to draw tall hair yet

Dw Sah's hair has been evolved from mountain to Kagamine Len. Not sure if that's an improvement tho lmao-

hello! and hey for what it's worth, i also have my moments where i'm drawing their hair and i go "what.. is going on here" LMAO but also len's hair isn't all that different from spiky twin's so i'd say that's improvement! but here are some things i try to keep in mind when drawing their hair

ignore me emoting at the bottom. i would simplify their hair as a tear drop for sah and a half circle for mekh, but i also do not want them to appear Too flat. hence, the shape is a base to build off of. it helps us determine the direction of the hair, how we layer it, and the space it occupies. but sol, why a tear drop and not a triangle? to which i say We must consider that sah has hair at the Back of their head that also extends from the nape of their neck so it must be considered when drawing the hair as a whole

determining a point where the hair parts/where the bangs start from also helps us better understand how the hair flows from that point

mekh has a bang in the middle of their hair and some face-framing bangs along their jaw. you can still see the basic half-circle/dome shape of their hair, and you can see how the sections of hair logically appear to flow from the marked point on their head. the top of their head is round, the bottom of their hair is basically Flat and straight across (it's just a bob that's very flared out at the bottom) which is why the back isnt really visible from the front unless you're looking at them from a lower angle. case in point:

mekh as viewed from the back and slightly below. the traced line shows that the bottom of their hair is basically a circle lol

now sah is..... Certainly Something..... ngl im not so sure how to describe them but i will try. their bangs sweep right and i try to keep their hair in Big triangular sections to resemble the model more closely. the back of their hair Also sweeps right. id say the spikes of their hair run along the curve of the aforementioned teardrop, and you can basically use a differently-angled teardrop for the front bang as well. But Sol, you may ask again, why are some of the spikes labeled as being the Back of their hair?

ok this pic quality sucks but you get the idea. when viewed from the side, you will see that their hair also flows Back. you can also see the hair coming from the nape of the neck. sah's hair is actually like.. sorta shaggy and longer, pretty multi-layered in the hypothetical scenario that it isn't styled up which is where all those spikes come from. (i'd even say it'd extend lower than mekh's if unstyled since mekh's is so bluntly cut across.)

this got kinda long but some ending notes: honestly don't be afraid to stylize and you don't need to be perfectly on-model with their hair. there's nothing wrong with using references either, i have a bunch of screenshots of the elders from different angles and if you/a friend has the hair you can also just screenshot that to give you a guideline. and also don't be hard on yourself if it looks kinda off or anything because i have drawn a lot of spiky haired characters in my time and i still sometimes look at stuff i deemed Fit To Post and go "hm. i would have drawn that differently if i redrew it today."

but uh i mostly just hope this was helpful LOL. good luck drawing the twins!

THESE ARE NOT TO SCALE, I DID THEM REAL SHITTY ON PHOTOSHOP LOL i do have general reasons on why i placed things where i wanted them.

ada's is the largest of the three floorplans since she has a condo style flat. i also tend to plan things most desired so they ALL have corner units lmao for THE MOST WINDOWS. im a whore for windows. i'm also a whore for balconies.

these floorplans are also not like- EXACTLY what i would've wanted but moreso like a general idea. i like the long hallways, i like the entry ways. i had specific floorplans in just how they moved from place to place (room to room,) not necessary distance wise or anything like that if that makes sense

if i were to remake these in the sims, they would probably make more sense sjkdfbdskjf (like leon's is more disjointed and ada's is more spacious, helena's is more longer)

the only few things i remember is that leon's apartment is very cramped. so things like him being on the couch and being able to see every part of his apartment was important. i also felt as though he would have the least amount of feng shui in terms of flow so it made more sense that he would shove a desk randomly in the living room.

i did write that he has a desk very close to the desk in chapter 3/4 and mentioned in 6 i think. and leon and helena have a talk in the entry way in chapter 5 i think. he can also see the desk from the couch, so that has to stay there in some capacity.

but also i would actually like to have shifted the entire entry and living room lower but i already redrew this like 3 times and im sleepy.

It's an evolution of a suggestion @woogly-boogly made actually. We were probably 14~ish and I was saying I didn't really have any ideas for a name for my art account I was going to make, and he suggested adellama as a pun on my name and cause I like llamas. Hi! Me again! Thanks so much for replying! I actually do have two things(elements) I'm working on at the moment. Line art and coloring are what I struggle to do the most. My sketches come out so nice until I try to do my line art. And I have issues with lighting, shading and such. Thats all I truly need help on. ok that's a lot of different things haha so let's look at lineart✨!! because that's the part i like doing the most... here's a picture i drew as an example! i'll put the "tutorial" part under a cut since it's long...

"my lineart comes out way stiffer than my sketches" is a huge mood O(--( when you're sketching you tend to be a lot looser, and drawing lots of overlapping lines creates visual ambiguity where your eyebrain kind of fills in details automatically. then when you try to draw a single line on top of a mass of vague details, it looks weird...

sketch for the above picture; i think there's a few things you can try to retain the looseness from your sketch page:

1) don't even do lines lmao sometimes i just clean up a sketch with eraser and call it a day

2) i like using a pencil/textured type brush to do lineart now! you won't be able to bucket fill for coloring anymore, but for me it helped deal with the too stiff/too clean feeling.

3) i don't do this myself, but i've seen some people suggest blurring the whole sketch layer so you can still see the original sketch as a guide, but don't feel constrained to redrawing exactly on top of it

i also don't bother connecting/closing all lines, it's easier on the hand to not redraw one super long unbroken line fifty times lol

for this one, i redrew the lineart on a new layer. pay attention to areas of high detail density (where you have a lot of stuff going/lines intersecting). e.g., venti's hand, his braid, xiao's bangs... is it easy or difficult to see what's going? check for line tangents, adjust thickness, add more negative space to clarify what you're seeing. small adjustments can bring more visual clarity too; for example, even though xiao's hair falls over his face, i like drawing the eye/brow underneath so you can still see the shape of his expression... to make it easier to follow the line of his bang, i erased a little bit of the brow/eyelashes underneath so they don't intersect his bangs on both sides of the line, which helps create more depth and makes it easier to see the hair line

you can also vary line width to create depth! i highlighted in red where i drew with thicker lines, because these are the big important shapes that are the central focus. highlighted in purple elements that are further away from the viewer (the hair on the other side of their face, xiao's necklace) or finer details (venti's nails)

contrast makes things fun and easier to look at it...! i like using thicker lines around the main shape/contour of something and drawing the interior details with finer lines

fill + lines colored: this is less of a good example because it's all grayscale, but i think coloring your lineart also helps contribute to contrast and depth o: you can retain details but make it easier for the eye to parse

those are the main things i think about for lineart; hope that helps (at least somewhat)...!

Shit, lmao. Looks like the fics were spot on. Corrupt!HPSC is officially canon. I'd put a few stars on the Bingo Board for myself but "HPSC kills those who try to leave because they can't risk information leaks" and "HPSC has hired assasins to take out anyone deemed a potential threat" have been floating around for awhile I can't claim anything towards it besides having subscribed to the theory. (I never once thought it'd actually be true, even with the hints, but here we are.)

(+) This is the guy who redrew Hawks' photograph in the ending because "it wasn't like that" @animators with the confidence of a man determined to stay on his dark path and drag us all with him. even his editor laughed about it awkwardly and said "ahaha everyone else is happy *trails off* and then there's Hawks" broooo. "Calling it a suggestion when it's an offer I can't possibly refuse? Shame on you." I mean, not wanting a gun pulled on you is a valid reason to agree in my book.

(+) Jk no, I know that's not why he agreed. Nagant wasn't gonna stand for that shit either. Good for her! But heck?! They do this kinda stuff?! (Fandom pls stop pitting them against each other, love them both, they offer different things to the series, are amazing and have different circumstances. Let it go. They're separate characters. And I for one, love that Hori gave the fanon!Hawks storyline to Nagant. Looks great on her. She's so cool. And needs some hugs. Rooting for some justice here.)

just to add on to that bit about Nagant getting this storyline instead of Hawks -- the reason this whole "deadly government assassin who kills whoever they're ordered to without question until their conscience finally catches up to them and they snap" thing wouldn't have worked for him is because Hawks is far too skeptical and observant to ever just blindly follow orders like that. I don't know if Horikoshi always intended for this backstory to go to Nagant, or if it originally was meant for Hawks as some have speculated (Lady was introduced suspiciously late in the game), but either way, it was the right call. Hawks has always been written as someone who sees too much and reads between the lines and is acutely aware of when the people around him are bullshitting. which makes perfect sense with the backstory he eventually got, because any child growing up with parents like that is going to learn very quickly to never trust anyone. and when you've got a dad like his, learning to read people becomes necessary simply for survival reasons.

I think fandom so strongly associates Hawks with the label of "HPSC's puppet" that people sometimes forget all the little signs that he wasn't exactly going along with it willingly. for instance, this scene which you mentioned:

not to mention the multiple occasions on which he's shown resistance to the idea of letting anyone innocent get hurt, even if it potentially jeopardizes his mission.

this happens three more times, in fact. at Fukuoka, he almost screws over his shot at getting an in with the League because he refuses to let any innocent bystanders get killed in the Noumu attack. later on when Dabi insists that he kill someone to prove his commitment to the LoV, he concocts that crazy plan with Jeanist, which could have easily gotten the both of them killed if he'd been found out. and then of course there was the whole disaster at Gunga Mountain, where he finally did kill someone, but literally tried every other alternative first, even though Twice had already killed people and was going to kill hundreds if not thousands more (as opposed to all the people Nagant killed, many of whom don't seem to have actually killed anyone themselves). it's a bit ironic, but what happened with Twice was probably the best demonstration of why Hawks is not assassin material. good assassins don't go around warning their targets before they kill them, and trying to give them multiple chances to opt out of it. I mean, he almost died because of how badly he fucked it up -- literally would have died, if Tokoyami hadn't shown up at the last second to save him.

basically Hawks just was not at all a good fit for the type of role that Nagant played. I don't think he would ever have been able to talk himself into believing that it was really for the greater good like she believed for so long. sure, he acted loyal to the HPSC, but only when their orders fell in line with what he believed to be the correct call. he wasn't particularly overjoyed about playing spy, but he knew the LoV was growing more and more dangerous, so in the end he agreed. but I don't think they would have ever been able to get him to go along with something if he was really adamantly against it. it just wouldn't have been consistent with his character at all (which is ironic, because fandom is always going on about how morally grey Hawks is, but he's really not, lol; he just hangs out with a lot of morally grey people), and I'm grateful that Horikoshi seemed to realize that.

besides, Nagant makes a much sexier assassin than Hawks ever could have anyway. no offense to you, Hawks. but all in all I think this worked out pretty well for everyone. and yes, Nagant does need a hug, and Horikoshi had better not even think about doing her dirty here or I swear to god. even though she's working for AFO, she doesn't truly believe in his ideals; she's just so mentally and emotionally worn down that she's lost faith in the possibility for any kind of hopeful future, and so she's opting for a path in which the ugliness in society is at least properly exposed, rather than being swept under the rug like before. she's wrong, obviously (pro tip, any time you decide you might as well make the world worse because you don't think things stand a chance of getting better, you are in fact in the wrong), but she's not beyond saving here, and if Deku can't get through to her then I hope that Hawks will take a stab at it instead. she deserves the chance to do something she can actually feel good about doing, and I for one would love to have her on Team Save The World, just saying.

eeeh you might have not seen it because it’s an italian comic and they translated just selected numbers out of the country and it’s at issue 400 (it’s one issue per month) but basically:

it’s a horror comic about this paranormal investigator who lives in london (that’s dylan) with his assistant groucho (based on groucho marx) and like... they’ve been living together all the time since lmao I mean I shipped them bc they’re an old married couple and they have been since issue #1 so I basically shipped them since then lmao but like... considering that dylan has a different girlfriend each number I never thought they’d actually like ever make that clear

that said it’s an excellent comic because basically the point is that the so-called *monsters* are actually victims of society 90% of the time and especially in the earlier numbers it was very good at doing social critique/commentary on a lot of different topics without being patronizing

also like... it was the first *serious* comic book I ever read, I started when I was like eleven in 1999 and since a lot of issues were quoting/inspired by classic horror movies or lit it actually got me into a lot of stuff I ended up loving later so it’s just really VERY DEAR TO MY HEART OKAY

also it had an a+ cast of secondary characters that would take too long to get into now but like... if you manage to read a few issues it’s 100% worth it, the ones translated in english were the most relevant but PLS try to get a brit version bc in the american they redrew groucho for copyright issues and it’s... not the same

that said I’m behind with it because like........ the sad truth is that I have no space to put comics anymore like physically so I only have bought the important issues for a few years and I missed a lot BUT at this point I’mma get the old ones as soon as I clear some space because i MISS READING IT REGULARLY but like... the moment it turned out that with issue 400 they’re rehauling the entire thing through the apocalypse and IN THE ISSUE BEFORE THAT DYLAN AND GROUCHO ACTUALLY DID GET MARRIED AND IT WASN’T A JOKE I about fell off my chair and bought the box immediately because pal I mean it was not the ship I ever thought I’d see canonized in my entire existence but it happened and I’m delighted

What made you decide to write such an amazing and complex butt munch of a character? Any inspirations?

     Little  story I guess.

     I have a thing for OCs. I make them all the time and have since I was eleven (2001) though very few stick. February last year I was like “Oh hey I want a scientist in Rocket!” as Rocket is my fav and I used to RP Shayan (Shayochism blog) and enjoyed playing a Rocket a lot. Anyway I drew Jax and then RIP I ditched him instantly. No history, no ideas, nothing. Just a drawing was all I had. Which happens a lot to me. I just love making new designs and stories. 

     Fast forwards to October that year and tldr every Wednesday I go out with my mum and her aunty and we do fun things like shopping etc. Anyway I saw an ambulance while in the car and I was suddenly liek WHAT IF I HAD A PARAMEDIC OC!? Then I remembered Jax and was like “OMG! He could like… Be a paramedic and scientist for Rocket as originally planned and work his ass off 24/7!” Aka combining two fav IRL things of mine - Science and medical stuff. Plus it would also mean Jax has a double life which seemed interesting.

     So I went home and redrew him (first ever post on my blog shows that image [here]) and was like “Oh I actually feel muse for this guy!”. So I just… started developing him on the spot. Of course his history was built up over the next few weeks and details added over time as more ideas came. I also had friends who aided keeping my muse up and spurred me on so the muse just stuck and next day I had a blog for him.

     He speaks formal because I used to role play on Warcraft and my character was an undead Blood elf (San’layn) who ended up in Alliance territory - they speak a whole different language - and so her ‘common’ (English) was very formal as she wasn’t too great at the language and I enjoyed speaking formal and learning new words as my RP developed on the game. I just applied that enjoyment of speaking formal to Jax. Little things like that stuck with me. Such as my San’layn being a blood fiend so did I move it to Jax lmao.  

     With characters I get heavily invested into I like everything to be pretty much flawless in their history. When creating my Warcraft characters I always apply ‘why�� to everything which helps develop a muse. So over time I gave him quirks, mannerisms, disorders, a full history and whatever else and was able to use the ‘why’ question to everything I wrote until it all fleshed out and the details were formed. Such as how disorder X affects him and where it came from. The only thing I don’t have are his parent’s histories written out though I have a basic idea in mind for them both.

     So all in all… I decided to write Jax because I love Rocket, I love RPing a Pokemon muse here aaaaand wanted a change from my old blog (RIP that blog now, Jax is my main!). Inspiration? That ambulance… And my old muse’s quirks. And little things here and there.

I have a box of sketchbooks and random sketches that I’ve been adding to since I was about 12.  Today I went through it all and I decided I’d make a post about it because. idk. why not I guess? .Going through this sucked a little because like who in the world ever wants to go through their middle school art??? Its hard not to get rid of that stuff because like not only does it suck but it makes me remember middle school and things like anime club and like. ew. But it’s nice to see how much less I suck at this, even if i’m not nearly as talented as I’d like to be. It also makes me sad to think of art i’ve lost, even if it was bad. I don’t have pretty much anything that I did digitally from like age 13-16 because I either deleted it or lost it when a computer broke because i didnt back that up since I didnt think id care but l kinda wish I still had some of that stuff, just like to compare improvement over such a big time period.

 I wanted to find some of my actual finished art to post with this, but I couldn’t find it today, so it’s only sketchbook stuff (but I dont finish a lot of things anyway lol). Maybe I’ll make another post comparing old things I actually finished with new stuff once I can find it because I know it’s around here somewhere anyway heres sketchbooks!!

This is from 7th grade, so I guess I was 12. It’s god fucking awful, complete with drawings of memes (which I will spare u from), slenderman fan art, and a weird message about my middle school bike, which I still have in my garage, being stolen, which it never was. And the brakes do work.

this was like straight copied from a piece I saw at an art magnet school I applied to (obviously I didnt get in lmfao) and I really did not understand how dark I needed to make the paper in some spots. And then I never finished it
