Did something way outside of my comfort zone and recorded drums the other day. I've been wanting to play drums on a song for over a decade now and it feels great to finally have the confidence to do it. I'm actually fairly pleased with how it's sounding so far, especially for being a song I had just started writing a few days prior. I have no idea if/when this song will ever be officially released anywhere, but that's not really why I did it to begin with. As far as the nerdy aspects, I was using my usual setup of my 70's Pearl kit (22, 13, 16) with a Ludeig Supraphonic snare. Cymbals were all Zildjian. 14" New Beat hats, 18" medium thin crash, 22" Ping Ride, and a 21" Sweet Ride as a crash. Mics were fairly standard as well. Audix D6 on the kick, MD421 on the rack, CAD M179 on the floor. I stuck with a 57 on the snare top, but tried a Samson C02 on the bottom. Hats were an SM7b, overheads were a spaced pair of 1990s Røde NT-2's, and the room mics were the usual setup of a pair of Cascade Fatheads running into an ART Pro MPA and VLA, although I went a little bit more extreme with the compression on the VLA. In 1969, Carmine Appice got John Bonham his LUDWIG endorsement. John's endorsement set was the exact set that Carmine was playing in Vanilla Fudge. Carmine had called LUDWIG Chicago and requested that they provide Bonzo with a 12X15 tom, 16X18 and 16X22 floor toms, and two 15X26 bass drums - LM402 snare drum and Speed King bass drum pedal included.

Page and Plant said "NO" to the double bass because John Bonham got way too busy using those bass drums and it most likely rendered Jimmy Page inept to keep up with Bonzo. Also, Page and Plant didn't want to confuse Zeppelin's stage with Vanilla Fudge's stage having the same LUDWIG Thermogloss kit. Therby, confusing Carmine's set with John Bonham's.

Bonzo went back to LUDIWG and ordered a 16X16 floor tom and a 12X14 tom rack tom - ditching the 16X22 floor tom and the 12X15 rack tom. Also, he ditched the second 15X26 bass drum after a request from John Paul Jones stating that John was better than any drummer using one bass drum than two.

This ushered in his "transition" maple kit used at Royal Albert Hall.

I'm pretty sure that Bonzo ordered the bongos too since they were used on "Whole Lotta Love" on Led Zeppelin II. John Bonham had called to thank Carmine telling him that he used the maple thermogloss on Zeppelin's second album.

The Rogers Swiv-O-Matic mount tom mount was added with the LUDWIG Atlas snare stand for the 12X14 tom.

Rogers Swan Leg cymbal and hi-hats were considered "heavy-duty" for the pro drummers of that era. So John Bonham used those with this iconic drum set.

You will see 1971 images of John Bonham playing his B/O badge green sparkle kit with a second LM 402 behind him, on the floor, with a Keystone Badge affixed to it. I suspect this was one of the snare drums from Carmine's maple thermogloss endorsement deal.

why does tom skinner have two snares? thats all i have to ask

It’s pretty common for touring drummers to have multiple snares. Drummers usually switch between the drums, choosing the one whose tone best fits into the overall texture of each song. It’s uncommon for a drummer to use two snares over the course of a single song. Part of the difference in tone comes from the natural sound of the snare, which can vary quite a bit depending on the depth of the drum and the materials used for the drum heads and drum shell. The snare heads can also be tuned to different pitches, which affects not just the tone of the drum but also the way it responds.

At Radiohead shows, you can usually find multiple snares on stage. Phil has brought a pair of snare drums for Radiohead touring since ~1999, more info on his page. Phil also added triggers to both snare drums, allowing him to trigger sampled snare sounds on songs like I Might Be Wrong. And for Radiohead’s 2011-2012 and 2016-2018 tours, Clive Deamer brought three snares, each with a shell made of a different material!

On a synthier note, the case on the right is custom-built to house the Elektron Octatrack MKI and Tiptop Audio Mantis eurorack case. The keyboard synth is Radiohead's old Prophet '08.

The standard snare of Pearl Drums was S-022. S-030 24 snare was adopted from the Snare drum of Pearl CZX series. All my snare drums have been replaced with S-030(G) 24 snares, except for CL-5314-BR and M-1946 Pearl 50th Anniversary Limited Edition. That is not the intention of John Bonham who replaced the Ludwig LM402 snare with Gretsch G5412. こんにちは！イチカワです。

alicetalesの『fly me to the world e.p.』もう聞いてくれたでしょうか。

中村くんが曲についてあれこれ書いているので、レコーディングについて、色々思い出して書いてみようと思います。

Day 1 : June 3, 2017 -ドラムとベース録り

レコーディング初日はスタジオノア野方店にて。

ドラムとベースを同時に録ります。

DRUMS　使用機材

ドラムセット：Pearl Reference PURE series (12"HT/16"FT/22"BD)

今回はドラムにマイクを10本使ってみました。

バスドラムには2本のマイクを使用。1本は内側に入れて、もう1本はヘッドから少し離した位置に置きました。これで、ミックスの際にアタックと低音を調節しやすくしています（多分）。

今回のミックスでは全体的にアンビエンスマイクをかなり大きめに混ぜています。そこへ、足りない個々の音を少しずつ乗せていくイメージでミックスしました。

マイク：SENNHEISER MD421 MK2

ベースはMD421とCrews DPA-2Bからのラインアウトの2chを使用。

また、アンプはスタジオのAmpeg B2REとAPMEG SVT-810Eを使用し、ドラムとは別のブースに置きました。

そうしてドラムとベースだけで録った音はこんな風になります！
