This was a shitpost, but I accidentally made it too realistic.
The shitposty part of this was supposed to be what Ceroba said in the previous comic and how absurd it was but even with it's.. yikes.
My craving for ansgt is so bad when I try to make a shitpost it becomes depressing ... (´。_。`" )

Actually it's tumblr and i can ramble on about this as often and as much as I like and it's making me happy today, so :
A theatre poster presented itself, adorned with the title of a tragedy from the ancient repertory called classic: "Down with tragedy dear to the bourgeois!" cried Bahorel. And Marius heard Combeferre reply:-- "You are wrong, Bahorel. The bourgeoisie loves tragedy, and the bourgeoisie must be left at peace on that score. Bewigged tragedy has a reason for its existence, and I am not one of those who, by order of AEschylus, contest its right to existence. There are rough outlines in nature; there are, in creation, ready-made parodies; a beak which is not a beak, wings which are not wings, gills which are not gills, paws which are not paws, a cry of pain which arouses a desire to laugh, there is the duck. Now, since poultry exists by the side of the bird, I do not see why classic tragedy should not exist in the face of antique tragedy." (LM 3.4.3, Hapgood)
A vital note : " classic" tragedy means Neoclassical-- the old, formalized style of French plays , then still very much in control of the art scene. The Neoclassicals were the Dire Foes of the up and coming Romantic movement. So Bahorel's side of this is very direct: he's calling for the end of Neoclassical theater, like the scarlet Romantic theater kid he is. Combeferre is being more roundabout, but possibly even more insulting! The word Combeferre uses for " duck" is " canard" (because that's the French word for duck). But it was also the term for a certain kind of trashy pulp journal , especially ones claiming to be " true crime" type stories. " The Shocking Murder of So and So" kind of stuff.
So Combeferre is (a) equating the neoclassical repertoire, held up at the time as the pinnacle of classy good taste, to these cheap journals the Neoclassical fans would surely have loathed (or at least claimed to loathe; plenty were definitely buying them) , and (b) calling the Neoclassical repertoire the " poultry" in this summary-- something domesticated and made consumable and ridiculous , distorted out of shape with its original (c) saying it can't even do what it's supposed to do -- " a cry of pain which arouses a desire to laugh" is a big problem for a tragedy! So unlike Courfeyrac and Enjolras in the next passage, Bahorel and Combeferre aren't disagreeing; Bahorel has just gone " those fuckin' assholes" and Combeferre has responded by going all in on the WAYS they are assholes . This is Theater Nerd Solidarity XD
--It's also absurdly complicated, good grief, I don't blame Marius for being confused by this one at ALL :P

I think the musical version of Javerts suicide is very good in many ways but while it does really nail the first reason for his inner revolt, Valjean sparing him, it doesnt really touch on the second reason, being the fact that Javert spared him back and can’t bring himself to arrest him even though he sees that as the only alternative to suicide.

I love Javert’s deeply weird energy at the barricades. Les Amis/Eponine/Marius/etc all respond to their possible impending deaths by reflecting on their own morality, thinking deeply about their relationships with each other, having big emotional conversations, wishing they had more time, etc etc…..meanwhile Javert’s tied up and patiently boredly waiting for his execution like:

I MADE A DRAGON PUPPET
IT'S SNEO:D
oughhhmygah
This is my first ever dragon puppet, so it's not the best, but I tried, y'know?^^,
I printed the digital design out instead of drawing it on paper, cuz I suck at symmetry😭😭
Though it is a bit smaller than intended, which makes the base stick out a little...
And my printer sucks, just look at those lines-
Anyways I'll stop rambling nowCOUGH-

tell us about vld 👁️
(only if u want to)
i'll spare you a truly unhinged ranting for perhaps another time (even though this is gonna be long anyway) but tldr: vld is a show that could have been really good if it just stuck to its direction from the first two seasons!!! and also if its crew didn't accidentally breed the worst possible fandom ever!!!
it had a really good identity at the start— its characters were entertaining, its art and animation were charming if anything, the VAs were genuinely excellent picks and in terms of story it was simple (considering it's a kids show) but effective. the first two seasons focused on one-off, character-driven episodes that gave room for a lot of character writing, team bonding, and tone establishment. i believe that the reason why vld shipping was already so aggressive since s1 — without crew interference — was because the character writing was like, actually good. good enough where people could take their starting characterizations + team dynamic and run wild with it
vld was never going to be an enlightening, mature, groundbreaking show about anything super deep; it's a Y7 show about robot lions in space. but i'm sure most ppl going into vld didn't expect a piece of art, they just wanted to have fun with an atla-adjacent show, or they watched previous voltron iterations. and for what it was, it was very successful at the start! and one of the more popular netflix originals at its time!
but then vld tried taking itself more seriously in s3, and changed its primary storytelling method. now the episodes weren't usually problem-of-the-week, but each episode's plot had to feed into the next episode in line. which would've been fine, if the crew planned ahead and kept track of its characters and plot
but since the lion switch was also conveniently during this season (which inevitably implied switches in character arcs), keeping track of everything suddenly got way harder. also, the lion switch was ass. breaking my silence: that shit made no sense. why didn't they make allura the black paladin??? why do all those mental gymnastics with moving keith from red to black and lance from blue to red just to give allura blue, which was a lion that didn't even really fit her??? (i know the reason was cuz dotf did this lion placement, but is vld dotf? are the characters archetypes the same? no? i didn't think so!!!)
anyway because of the new serialized storytelling format, vld had to follow this really serious, high-stakes, even occasionally dark narrative to keep viewers engaged, and it just .. wasn't the same? like not only are characters' arcs dropping like flies, we're introducing new characters with barely any development or even personality, and it's not even that fun to watch anymore. what happened to my silly guys. what happened to goofin off in the castle. what happened to episode-long missions. this is not avatar. if i wanted to watch avatar i would just watch avatar.
and! in later seasons i think the crew caught on to how fans loveddd the episodic narratives in s1 and 2, so they tried bringing back one-off lighthearted episodes (dnd episode, game show episode, clear day episode, etc.) in an attempt to relive the old glory— and they were fun to watch on their own, sure, but were completely detached from the rest of the story atp. literally the only reason why i even remember these episodes is because they weren't a part of the narrative's incomprehensible sludge
don't even get me started on how the crew hated its audience. don't get me started on the ship bait, the weird canon queerbait situation(s), the irresponsible encouragement of parasocial fan relationships with VAs, artists, creators, you name it. it's how we got one of The worst fandoms in recent history. it's how vld was one of the newer fandoms that started an whole new era of fandom etiquette — namely, disregarding all previous fandom norms in favor of the most childish, pearl-clutching, moral-panicky discourse you'd find daily, and consequently you wouldn't EVER dare bring up to a normal person who exists in the real world.
the crew hated its audience so much, it essentially punished its fans by shutting down all fan theories, purposefully writing AROUND plot twists THEY SET UP, leaving a really messy and plot-hole-filled final script. they especially hated the shippers so much that they shut down BOTH main camps — klance and sheith — for canon allurance, a truly horrible way to end both their character arcs since neither character gets all that satisfying of a conclusion (lance becomes a farmer, allura fucking dies)
this is already long enough but i hope this gives you a general idea :') i have so many emotions about vld. someday i'll make the retrospective video essay of my dreams. this was my nonstop fixation for two straight years. i wasted two years on this shit.
also this show's 8 seasons were released all in a span of 2 and a half years.

Nobody even cares about the lost Argentine railway safety posters and maybe PSAs too that you'd find back around in the 2010s. Nobody cares that el se bajó del tren mientras estaba en movimiento ellos lo siguen esperando.

writing for like minds is so hard because both alex and nigel are living and perceiving reality through suuuch a particular lens. nigel will think something bananas like The only truthful barrier that lies between us is death, that fateful stumble through the gateway between time into a place immemorial… and alex will do some *waves hand vaguely at entirety of voiceover canon scenes* and then they’ll both be watching each other with an involuntary smile on their face and a softness to their eyes they would never internally recognize as the fondness that it is. can you guys stop being so emotionally indirect about everything so i can convey the things you’re doing in my mind palace into something that isn’t “and then they lioked at each other yaoifully bu then away (they are repressed)”

Taylor Swift x my favorite ships • Part 9
Valancy Stirling x Barney Snaith (The Blue Castle)
Tumblr media
the lakes
"Take me to the lakes where all the poets went to die / I don't belong, and my beloved, neither do you"
Neither Valancy nor Barney could find much acceptance or happiness in the society they "belonged" to. Where they were truly happy was their little house in the middle of a lake, where Valancy chose to spend her last days.
Electric Touch
"All I know is this could either break my heart or bring it back to life / Got a feeling your electric touch could fill this ghost town up with life"
Valancy and her heart condition are betting it all on Barney and his ability to bring color into her previously dull life. And as for Barney, no lyrics are more fitting than "I've grown accustomed to sleeping alone / Still, I know that all it takes is to get it right just one time"

Spoilers for Dawntrail's last area. I have done basically 0.1% of it but I gotta talk about it. I just gotta.
This is it. This is peak right here as a culmination of everything Dawntrail is about. "You thought that was the Golden City of dream? Nah, not even close. This is the Golden City. This is more than shiny rocks and reckless splendor." It is the golden city that a lost parent talks about with a fond haze in their eyes. This is the end of a day of playing with friends before you have to be home for dinner. It is exactly as inviting and heartwarming as a truly nostalgic place should be, but in that as well is a sense of sadness.
Because it's all gone. It's been gone. It is a memory made manifest and like the Amaurot of Emet-Selch's illusions, it is colored by the perceptions of its creator.
But. As a final area for Dawntrail. It's telling to me how the rest of the story is about legacy, a fondness for days long gone, the terror of whether new generations can live up to the supposed splendor of the past. Every place we go in Yok Tural, we hear how Gulool Ja Ja and his party did great and impossible deeds, a time of heroes. How could we possibly hope to match those great times? How can we keep them rolling forever? In Living Memory, they do for Alexandria. It's always the good ol days there.
This stands in contrast to the answer Tuliyollal must accept. Time can't halt there and even if it did, what persists in that bubble? Everyone likes to say the Dawnservant made everything better and perfect but look. Bandits prowl roads, some of the Yok Huy are still imperial-minded, and the Mamool Ja still engage in a tradition that brings them nothing but suffering. It is only by Wuk Lamat and Koana's drive to not repeat greatness but to build upon it that these issues begin to give way. By expanding their understanding and building on what came before, they make a brand new tomorrow.
So when Alexandria and Living Memory hit? When you see how the tower literally feeds upon future progress and new lands to perpetuate its golden years? When you realize that you have to tear this nostalgic dream down with your own two hands or watch it consume every single reflection, piece by piece? When you realize that no matter how much Sphene loves the new people, people everywhere, she will always use them to fuel her sepia-tinted memory of a time long lost?? Holy FUCK. Just... Everything, every single thing led into this one moment of stepping into Living Memory and hearing Erenville say;
"All this time, it was here—the city of gold."
Chills. I can't express how perfect I found that line. That little last reveal. And to behold a town I'm sure I must have seen before. Maybe in a dream.
