Yes I was talking about Kaer Morhen! What follows is mostly speculation and personal headcanon:

So post tw3, I do see the tragic appeal of Vesemir (or any number of dead witchers) haunting Kaer Morhen, but I prefer not to think of Vesemir as a ghost, or at least a pained, sinister one. He was laid to rest with love, and he died fulfilling his devotion to his family. And maybe the other witcher spirits that remained were given a more full sense of closure after his funeral too.

So that leaves Eskel as the caretaker of Kaer Morhen. Geralt has his family, Lambert knows better. It’s just Eskel. He’s the last ‘true’ wolf witcher in the keep, not even a troubled spirit to keep him company, to rattle the doors and open the cubbards, not even the distorted voice of dead Vesemir to tell him what to do with himself, no one to guide him, no one to fill the silence.

Eskel himself is the ghost then. He’s the cold, silent, shape of a witcher that walks the halls of Kaer Morhen night and day. If you were to hike up to the castle, you might see his form in a window, you might hear his footsteps on the stair, see a flash of igni on a dark night. The age of Witchers is dead, the school of the wolf with it, all that’s left is Eskel, dragging around its corpse, muttering the names of dead men.

wait bacon I might be stoned but that aiden quest idea is actually gold. the image of a witcher waking up in a garden like an ancient sentry. what if he'd been hiding out there because he thought he was still being hunted by jad karadin's gang. maybe... he *is* being hunted, by his loyalists, for causing two more witchers to be sicced on their leader or something. maybe that's the quest, either scourging the rest of the gang or helping him escape. the possibilities

God, I love how accurate these choices are to the games. Like, you’ve got the classic “leave well enough alone” choice, then there are the “pick the kind of person you want to be” choices, I.E. helping him escape safely, or going out yourself to MAKE it safe for him to leave by, y’know, killing them. I also think it would probably get to be very...emotional depending on the ending you probably got in tw3 with the whole...y’know...lambert thing...

Aiden does that weird npc subplot exposition thing where he goes “Yeah. I’m actually looking for a Witcher. Wolf medallion, dark hair, cheats at gwent. Name’s Lambert. You know him?” Or something like that and then you’re given the choices that would usually relate to your impact on tw3. Like the “He’s dead,” ending, then the “Bastard’s living the high life with a sorceress that’s just as crazy,” ending, and “Yeah. I know him. He was looking for you too...” ending (where he doesn’t have Keira). And I feel like, depending on your choices, that would impact your interactions with the cat.

I just— I want this man to live. His entire existence ending was the start of some dark times for Lambert and I think that shows us how much Lambert can actually care about someone. Even in his quest, when Jad is talking, he sounds like he’s on the brink of destruction, not even just the survival endings.

The Kaer Morhen Agency, however, has noticed. One of their agents has been hired to protect potential victims, people scared that they've been targeted. And they have reason to worry. When Eskel's first assignment winds up dead of no discernible cause, it starts him on a search for the elusive Specter, hoping against hope to track down the assassin before they're hired again. Setting a trap for a ghost is something Witchers are used to. Setting one for a trained killer may prove beyond them. Fic || Art

I've put together a rec' list of the old guard. These folks were writing Eskel long before I was brave enough to. I read them before I had an AO3 account. I consider them formative. Most of the authors have multiple Eskel-centric fics.

I went all the way back to 2016. I haven't included Eskel/OC or Eskel/Reader, which makes up a lot of his earliest content, and only included stories where he is central (surprisingly few options, to be honest). Eskel has 159 pages; the bard has 759 at last count.

hey bacon idk if you've heard of it but paint tool sai is a great program!! It makes drawing super easy, and it's a really small file to download. it's not resource intensive at all

Omg!! Hello!!!

I do have Paint Tool Sai! It is very helpful and so much easier to use, but I like making things hard on myself and torturing my friends during calls by drawing in MS Pain(t), which is also why I’m having a lil challenge to spend an entire month or more using it called “ms pain adventures”!! It’s also because I wanna challenge myself into using little to no layers and drawing larger with limited resources.

Some of my “better” drawings are from Ibis Paint and PTS!! Problem is, I’m using a shitty old lil mouse based tablet that likes to slip and slide and when I tried going back to my favorite programs I hated it. 😔 So, until my awful little newer tablet gets fixed, I’m stuck making awful art on an awful program and an awful older tablet.

It’s all good tho! I’m havin’ a lot of fun messing around and stressing out my friends who just want me to have a more comfortable drawing experience.✌🏻✌🏻
