some quick Black Rock Shooter doodles, based on my old BRS/RWBY crossover idea, along with some of the Apostles because I had never drawn them before.

As the sun creeps through the curtains from the balcony and lands on her eyes. She lets a small whine out with a small headache from a night filled with heavy drinks, a lot of weed and most she can't remember. So it was a good time. Purring loudly as she slowly woke, she stretched over the bed. Only to have here heard drop as she felt someone else was on her bed.She couldn't react at all, so she stayed in place with her heart racing. Sitting up slowly she was wearing her lingerie undergarments. Panicking a bit she picked up any shirt in reach and slipped it on. Only to hear a groan and the bed move. Glancing at the nightstand was a ring. A very beautiful one too. With a small smile she picks it up and tries it on. What a perfect fit.

(I adore the manga so much because it does things to make White and Apostles relatable, they have emotions and thoughts and feelings. From LLWO being angry and conflicted at the death of his Fiancee and VERY conflicted when he’s curb stomping Stella and realizes she isn’t fighting back, to SZZU and CKRY having an attachment to Stella in CKRY treating her like a little sister and SZZU wanting to work with the humans and even wanting to look into ways of suppressing their appetites for neblading, it’s even revealed CKRY likes children too, which is why he has so much fun teaching and training Stella.

It’s more implied the Aliens are just ignorant, and that they never sat down to really talk with humans and understand things, or wrote off neblading as simply how things have to be because of those urges, they’re very “human”, especially if MEFE and LLWO’s relationship and engagement are taken into account.

Even White has emotions, you can tell she really loved Gibson more than anything with how much she changed and wanted to change for him, from even wanting to coexist with humans to giving up neblading. 

And with how hurt she is that one mistake made him turn so badly, so much time spent praising her for how she’s changed and everything to just...trying to kill her, that had to stab like a dagger, and you can see with how she acts afterward that it’s scorn, that she’s acting the way she is and doubling down because she was hurt so badly...and even then you can see she still loves him, from re-acquiring the clothes he called her cute in, to uncharacteristically sparing Nana and leaving her for Stella to have.

You could even argue that her reaction to finding out SZZU and CKRY defected was because she saw it as another betrayal from someone close to her and again, hurt her, so she did what she could, used that as motivation to do something about it and killed them herself to take revenge at it happening again.

This doesn’t justify anything obviously, but it’s such a great addition of character depth and motivation that I love so much! In the game they’re all just alien bad guys of the week with hardly any backstory, almost no emotion, and White just pulls all her shit because she wanted to fight herself???? ? ? ?? ? ? ? 

That’s it.

In the manga that STILL is her goal mind you, but all this other stuff comes in and muddies it up and adds value, hell, in the manga she eats her clones to become stronger, not just to fight herself, and the prelude flashbacks make it seem like that power was for another purpose, since i subscribe to the belief that White’s power/army/Apostles were to get back at something that wronged her before, and Earth wasn’t her sole, nor primary, target.

It just adds SO MUCH MORE to the experience and I love it so much.)

Trouble looked up from her book, dressed in a pair of black volley ball shorts, a shirt of LLWO's that was fairly big on her, and messy bed head. "Um..." a soft smile graced her lips. "Thank you. I think you're pretty cute yourself ya know." Her smile grew into a grin as she gently bit her pink lip.

(Lemme start with sort of a disclaimer/meta about the portrayal [fam this is wordy af and lengthy, like essay tier, be ready for the long haul I’m not even joking]:)

(No matter where you look, either in the game or even the expanded info given in the manga, White’s motivations are mostly unknown and so is her behavior pattern, some interpret her as being manipulative through and through, others see it differently.

My general angle is that White does carry a sense of morality about her, it just gets twisted and bent based on her horrible impulse control and curiosity, as well as her dislike of boredom.

I believe her “nicer” appearances in the XNFE flashback, as well as her saving MEFE [though I haven’t read that story due to it not being posted] as being genuine, and I believe it’s SAHA’s loyalty to her even to the end that explains that best.

While I can’t speak for canon, a lot of White’s actions imply she’s getting back at something, or getting what she deserves, I think she was wronged before and that broke her the first time, leading to the eventual second breaking with Gibson and the events of the game/manga. If you look at all the Apostles, they’re all damaged in a way. MEFE is disturbingly sadistic, XNFE was and is insane, the others like LLWO and MZMA and CKRY have oddities about them too, SZZU is the only “normal” one and even then she has problems too. The manga also mentions that neblading is a urge, that they have to eat, it’s not just a willful decision.

Basically, it seems like White and her Apostles are a powerful band of misfits, Aliens that never fit in or were cast aside, and she’s putting things together for a comeuppance in the form of taking other other planets and clearing them out. The implications I’m guessing is that somewhere along the way White lost herself more and more and became more of that image of the cold and heartless General/Commander/Prefect that they fear and end up hating, and ends up viewing her apostles as chess pieces to be sacrificed and used as opposed to others like herself. The stunt with Gibson cements that, and she ends up becoming a monster that event he Apostles won’t serve under anymore because they know they mean nothing to her compared to her revenge and are 100% disposable now.

Her love for Gibson is something that can’t be disputed though, even the Apostles acknowledge that she’s different around him and call it as being love long before she even realizes it. I think that’s the best hint we have. 

That she was WILLING to call off a meticulously planned mass invasion and give up her nature up to that point and even swear off neblading to coexist with humans for his sake. To take the name he gave her even. To WANT to apologize to him and make it up to him for a mistake, even if her pretending to be human was a ruse to make clones to eat.

Someone who didn’t have at least a little bit of morality wouldn’t do that, wouldn’t behave like this, it isn’t until he turns on her that she degrades into mercilessness, that she stops regretting the things she does and as I headcanon, starts really treating the Apostles worse and truly like disposables.

It’s mostly her behavior near the end that sells me.

This isn’t a list of who she nebladed, Gibson killed himself and she never got to LLWO and XNFE, and it’s revealed that she didn’t neblade Nana Gray either. It’s a list of either people she feels she’s lost, or that have betrayed her, or both, it’s noted that this is her lamenting too by the way in her follow up line.

There’s also these interesting lines as well.

The context to this is that it’s implied that Eye flames have some connection to hate, the top image is just after Stella sort of loses it and gets angry, The bottom is White responding to Stella actually not letting the hate consume her and regaining control over herself.

Notably this conflict ends in her deactivating her eye flame in favor of some restriction release, Stella never uses that flame again, which implies that, not only are flames tied to hate, but also that her flame has to do with White’s hatred to begin with. Since Stella is her perfect clone so to speak.

Which makes sense, during the Sing-Gibson chapter we don’t see the flame until he tries to kill her, then it’s on in full blaze, which backs up the point.

The final like, bit of this are her flashback after her defeat as well as her commentary on herself

 As well as the conversation with SAHA, and what’s leading up to what could be interpreted as her death.

I don’t think SAHA would still be as loyal as he is if White didn’t earn it somehow, you don’t stay loyal to someone who treated you and the others with you horribly without good reason, and by this point, White is weak enough that he could have likely killed her if he had other allegiances.

The planned from the beginning comment is what I mean to get at, that implies White never intended to neblade Nana at all, which goes against how she’d been prior, every Gray was hers to eat, and she’d eaten ALL of them prior to this, add in the fact that Nana was special to Gibson himself as well, hence her name that he gave her himself, and it starts to make sense why she was spared.

Stella and Nana both lived, both were Gibson’s favorites in a way. 

Note that she refers to that as “SIng-Love’s last present.” which means she’s calling herself by that again, not by White anymore. If she does die, then she dies as Sing-Love, and that’s really important to take from everything.

The final point I’d like to make is this:

The point of WRS and BRS is the parallels and yet differences they have, that they’re opposites, but also the same. A lot of the Apostles mention that Stella reminds them of White in some way besides appearances, or that she came out really well in comparison to other Grays. 

Stella is supposed to be White’s “perfect” clone, to the point that in the game or manga, White accepts her defeat and/or death because it didn’t matter, whoever was the last one standing is really “her”, because they’re both the same, and while in the game Stella refuses and denies, I think it’s because she misses the point White was trying to make.

Simply put.

Stella was able to convert people, MEFE thinks she’s funny, SZZU and CKRY grew to be super fond of her, LLWO stopped trying to get revenge on her and worked with her, XNFE wanted to be friends at the very end, even SAHA at the end called her by her name of Stella, and said she “won”.

That’s 6 out of the 7 Apostles, and 6 of 6 of the ones that actually met her, MZMA didn’t because he was nebladed beforehand.

And yet there’s still parallels being drawn between White and Black, between Sing and Stella.

Why do you think that would be?

But basically yeah. I think White does have a sense of morality that’s just warped up to hell, and I think that a lot of her wrongs and twisted personality were cause by known and unknown wrongs done to her that changed her. I’m not excusing what she did because she’s diabolical to say the least if her violent outbursts aren’t any indication, but it’s also why I made the turning over a new leaf AU, as well as why I won’t play her as a remorseless villain any farther than on the surface as it were. Because however you interpret her character, whether you agree in that she does have a softer side, or that all of this was manipulation and she’s just evil and never wanted to change, she still has a very complex character as far as the manga is concerned and it’s hard to pin it down either way.

I just did this to better explain my portrayal, this isn’t a meta to be taken as fact or to affect anyone’s view of her or any other WRS’s that rp out there, it’s just my opinions and beliefs and how they will influence how I play this woman, that’s all, but if you did read this thank you for your time and stuff, it means a lot and I hope I haven’t like irritated anyone or anything.)
