Figured I'd give a plot layout. Just for fun.
"Episode" length: 50 main chapters (+ 6 extra chapters (prologue and side character check ins)
Time placement: About 2 years after Mato's defection. The story happens over the course of a year, starting on Mato's 23rd birthday.
Prologue: Details on the history of the story and explains the origins of the main quintet of characters.
Arc 1: A Star's Choice
Part 1 (EPS 1-5) is about Mato traveling from place to place as she attempts to remain on the run and off radar. She fights and saves people along the way.
Part 2 (EPS 6-10) has Mato entering a small city, before her exhaustion forces her to stay with a family until she recovers. She ultimately saves them and makes the choice to stay with the family for the near future.
Extra 1: The UNPF assembles Chariot, Strength, Dead Master, and Black Gold Saw, announcing that Mato's been located and that she needs to be either apprehended or killed.
Arc 2: Friend And Foe
EP 11: Kagari aka Chariot enters the city in search of Mato, who's attempting to find a job to help the family as a way of thanks. Mato succeeds in forcing her to retreat, but knows that her former allies will be making appearances.
EPS 12-13: Yuu aka Strength enters the city, finding Mato in the city's main park. At first, the two have some simple small talk about their families, before Yuu accuses Mato of being a traitor. This leads to a scuffle, which Mato wins thanks to aid from local police. After Yuu leaves, Mato returns to the family, before sharing with them about her past.
EPS 14-16: Yomi aka Dead Master enters the city, before setting up a sniping position. Eventually, she finds Mato and prepares to kill her, only for her to suddenly fire a warning shot. This alerts Mato of Yomi's location and the two get into a battle, which ultimately test whether or not Yomi is still herself. Mato loses, but Yomi can't bring herself to kill her old friend, so she runs, leaving Mato in a mix of confusion and hope.
EPS 17-20: Saya aka Black Gold Saw enters the city, finding her during lunch hour. The two have a friendly discussion, before Mato brings her former commander to meet the family. Eventually, Saya explains to Mato her current situation, which results in a duel to see if Mato can truly handle her lonely battle. Saya wins, but believes Mato's proven her determination, agreeing to help in secret whenever possible...after she teases the younger woman a bit.
Extra 2: Upon returning to base, Saya is brought to the engineering room to witness a startling sight. White Rock Shooter is born.
Arc 3: Unleash The Beasts
Part 1 (EPS 21-23) has Kagari, Yuu, and Yomi working together to apprehend Mato. At first, things are going well for them, until Saya steps in. Saya then fights Mato, who loses, and brings her sword towards the younger woman's chest, striking shock and potential fear into her. Saya then single-handedly defeats the other three girls, forcing them to retreat. Saya then apologizes to Mato, explaining that she too has defected to help the younger woman, much to Mato's joy.
Part 2 (EPS 24-26) has the trio return, using their Beast forms this time. Mato and Saya retaliate with their Beast forms, which results in a standstill between them. Saya manages to devise a strategy which helps both of them successfully hold the trio off until the Beast forms' time limit expires. Yomi once again attempts to shot her old friend, only to have a mental breakdown, causing her to go unconscious. As Yuu and Kagari leave, Mato brings Yomi to a hospital.
Part 3 (EPS 27-29) has Saya watch after Yomi, while Mato explains the situation to the family that had adopted her. The family agrees to help however they can. Yomi attempts to break free from her psychotic personality. Mato encounters WRS, who easily forces her to use her Beast form, only to easily get defeated by WRS's own Beast form. The clone retreats, wanting to toy with Mato a little longer. Yomi awakes, her mind healed, thus reuniting with Saya and Mato.
EP 30: Mato and Yomi catch up on lost time. Yomi meets the family Mato settled with. The sniper finds herself having recurring nightmares and dark thoughts, which leads her to getting therapy. But she's healing. The three woman are indeed healing.
Extra 3: The UNPF deems the WRS project a failure, causing WRS to revolt and destroy their leaders in search of her own goals. The Jikken Army takes this opportunity to apprehend Kagami and Yuu and take out the rest of the UNPF.
Arc 4: Chaos and Insanity
Part 1 (EPS 31-35) has Mato, Saya, and Yomi recuperating, before being ambushed by the Jikken Army. After helping evacuate the family and surrounding civilians, the trio defeats each squad that comes after them. Eventually, they encounter Yuu and Kagami. After a lengthy battle, Yuu and Kagami surrender, allowing the trio to bring them to a hospital and psychiatric facility.
Extra 4: Yuu and Kagami eventually heal, before Saya takes them to her home for the time being. A few months pass. Yomi is a librarian. Saya is a teacher. Yuu and Kagami are job searching. Mato is still at her current job. Things are peaceful as UNPF and Jikken Army dissolve and are shut down.
Part 2 (EPS 36-40) has WRS track down the quintet, forcing them to seek shelter somewhere away from their homes. Mato brings them to their hometown and her old home, giving them time to make a strategy and get supplies. The group attempt to take down the clone in Beast form, but are still outmatched. Saya and Mato are forced to use Insane form, successfully driving WRS off. Unfortunately, Saya has to forcibly subdue the younger woman as her Insane form begins going rampant. After Mato comes to, she gives her parents and brother's graves one more visit, before heading back with the others.
Arc 5: The Fated Duel
Extra 5: Mato's 24th birthday arrives and the group reminisce on the past year. WRS, meanwhile, develops a parasitic virus that will hopefully kill her original counterpart even if WRS is killed too.
Part 1 (EPS 41-42) has Saya returns home, before her, Yuu, and Kagami are ambushed by WRS. Saya successfully manages to kill her, unaware that the parasite has been injected into her body. The parasite takes its time separating Saya's consciousness from her body, before taking complete control.
Part 2 (EPS 43-45) has Mato and Yomi enter Saya's home to see Yuu and Kagami beaten within an inch of their lives. Saya's nowhere in sight. After getting the two to a hospital, Mato and Yomi attempt to track down Saya. Saya, try as she might, is unable to break free from the virus plaguing her by her lonesome. Mato and Yomi finally find their former counselor, only to get easily taken down. Yomi attempts to sacrifice herself, which fails.
Part 3 (EPS 46-49) has Mato brings Yomi to the hospital, before searching for Saya alone. She eventually finds her and demands an explanation. After no response, the two fight, before Mato notices an injury on the older woman's body. She then notices Saya's symptoms, helping her connect the dots and realize that Saya has a parasite in her. Mato is forced into a losing position, before Saya towers over her, preparing to kill her. Mato's fear and determination conflict with each other, forcing her into her Insane form.
Finale/EP50: Black Rock Shooter
Mato experiences flashbacks from her and Saya's talks, interactions, and fights. She also has some hallucinations on what the fight could result in, as well as what their previous fights could have been like. Mato feels sick to her stomach thinking about it.
Mato and Saya's fight is an extended recreation of their fight from the OVA. Mato is stabbed by Saya's sword, before sucker-punching the older woman several times in the gut. She manages to get her former counselor to cough up the parasite, which Mato immediate sets on fire, destroying it. Saya falls unconscious, while Mato calls for an ambulance.
The five women physically make full recoveries, though it will take time for their emotional and mental scars to heal. Mato still spends time with the family that helped her after she got her own place. She visits her friends often, as well as her hometown.
Black Rock Shooter AU: Renegade
So, after watching Dawn Fall, I felt motivated in creating a Black Rock Shooter AU. Also inspired by some of @dan-heron’s works.
Lore
Backstory: In the mid 21st century, science and technology have reached levels that people could only dream of. Studies of this level of science and tech have promised a brighter, safer, and healthier future for humanity. To ensure said future was possible, the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces and Jikken Army were formed.
However, by the late 21st century, there were those that sought to use this knowledge for war and battle. In the early 22nd century, the Jikken Army defected the UN and war officially broke out, resulting in the UN having no choice but to develop experimental super soldiers to combat the threat posed by the Jikken Army.
Five women, all close friends, were among the first ten of these soldiers. However, while the group were essentially meant to win the war when their stealth specialist recovered intel on the Jikken Army, said soldier defected and announced she wanted nothing to do with the fruitless war.
This is the story of that soldier. The renegade and most wanted person in modern history. Her name is Mato Kuroi; known by her infanmous codename.
Black Rock Shooter.
Basis: This AU is based on the Dawn Fall anime and the original PSP and Fragment mobile games. As such, this is a sci-fi setting. The characters retain their names from the OVA and 2012 anime with names of other incarnations. Some Innocent Soul manga characters show up too as AI.
The threat category for this AU is, from most dangerous to least, EX-S-A-B-C-D-E-F-G.
For comparison, humans and wild/trained animals would be from E to G, depending on a variety of factors. Our heroines would be a B threat in their normal states. The Forces and Army would range from S to C, depending on certain factors. Insane and Beast forms would be an EX to A level threat.
Main Characters
Mato Kuroi (Age: 23. Aliases: Stella, Empress, The Dark Goddess. Codename: Black Rock Shooter): Eldest daughter to a single mother, Mato and her brother lived a mostly quiet life prior to the AU's events. However, after her mother and brother died in an attack, Mato nearly lost her will to live. Then she was given the choice to join the fight against the Jikken Army.
She agreed, wanting to avenge her family's demise and ensure that their demise doesn't happen to another family. Upon discovering the true identity of the Jikken Army, she defected, wishing to not involve herself in the war that she believed was completely pointless.
Her personality prior to her transformation was similar to OVA Mato and pre-canon Empress and Stella. After her transformation, she is identical to most Black Rock Shooter (as in having repressed emotions). In spite of that, she still retains her sense of justice.
Her appearance prior to her defection was a mix of Stella, Empress, and Elishka, mainly used as combat attire. This changes to a more casual and wanderer-like design, topped off with a large poncho similar to Rock in the Innocent Soul manga, used as stealth attire. Her primary combat skill is stealth and versitility, easily becoming Saya's lieutenant and as such, has a lean and athletic physique.
She is equipped with her infamous Rock Cannon and Black Blade, both of which can transform into various weapons for any situation. As a backup or for stealth, she has two pistols and two knives. She is able to manipulate water and darkness and she also has an AI partner named Ron, who maintains a similar personality to his Innocent Soul counterpart, albeit subdued.
Yomi Takanashi (Age: 24. Aliases: Shi, The Bone Queen, The Reaper. Codename: Dead Master): She is a highschool friend of Mato's. Unlike Mato, who joined the cause out of a desire for revenge, Yomi felt like she needed to protect the people she cared about by any means.
Her personality prior to her transformation was identical to OVA Yomi. Her transformation, however, resulted in her receiving another twisted personality, similar to Dead Master herself. Yomi's initial personality only became weaker after Mato defected, beginning to believe the lies that said Mato needed to die for her betrayal.
Her appearance is a mix of Dead Master from the OVA and Dawn Fall anime, mainly used as combat attire. Her primary combat skill is close-range and long-range combat, resulting in a more lean physique. She is equipped with her Dead Scythe and her sniper rifle. She is able to manipulate the wind and air and she also has an AI partner named Skull.
Saya Irino (Age: 37. Aliases: The Destroyer, The Commander, The Devil. Codename: Black Gold Saw): She was once Mato, Yomi, and Yuu’s guidance counselor in highschool. Much like Yomi, she joined the battle as she felt that she had to protect people. And upon noticing that the three girls were ALSO involved, she felt like it was her duty to help them.
Her personality prior to her transformation was similar to 2012 anime Saya at the end of the show. After her transformation, she is mostly the same, but as elements of Black Gold Saw’s personality as well. In spite of that, she has a sense of justice and desire to protect and guide others.
Unlike most characters, she is sympathetic towards Mato defecting, believing she has her reasons for doing and believing that Mato can still help others, even though she wants no involvement with the war. As such, she is one of the few people Mato can truly trust. She can also be a flirt and a tease, something that Mato is annoyed with usually, despite enjoying Saya’s affection.
Her appearance can only be described as if Black Gold Saw was a character within the PSP game, Fragment, and Dawn Fall, mainly used as combat attire. Her casual attire is near-identical to her 2012 anime appearance, with a few changes to fit the time period. Her primary combat skill is close-range combat and overall commander of her unit, resulting in a more muscular and powerful physique, while maintaining her other incarnations’ more voluptuous design.
She is equipped with her King Saw and a riot shield. She is able to manipulate blood and heat. She also has drones, which can be used by the characters for espionage and long-distance communication. They are humanoid and are essentially the Good Smile Company Neadoroid figures.
Yuu Koutari (Age: 23. Aliases: Brute, The Muscle, The Titan. Codename: Strength): She is another friend of Mato’s from highschool. Much like Mato, though, she did join the war out of a desire for revenge, having lost her family in an attack as well.
Unlike the rest of the group, Yuu’s personality has changed the least. She is very similar to her 2012 anime counterpart prior to Mato’s defection, but afterwards, she is very similar to her Dawn Fall incarnation. This is due to her believing in the lies that said Mato was a traitor to humanity.
Her appearance is strikingly similar to Dawn Fall, mainly used as combat attire. Her primary combat skill is heavy-weapon combat, leading her to receiving a more muscular physique that she wields with pride. She is equipped with her Ogre Arms, which are equipped with laser cannons. She is able to manipulate various forms of metal and stone.
Kagari Izuriha (Age: 23. Aliases: Tyrant, The Tank. Codename: Chariot): She is another friend of Mato’s from highschool. Much like Mato and Yuu, though, she did join the war out of a desire for revenge, having lost her family in an attack as well.
Much like Yomi, Kagari’s personality has changed significantly. She is very similar to her 2012 anime counterpart prior to Mato’s defection, but afterwards, she ended up becoming so distraught over the defection that it resulted in her developing a split personality. This is due to her believing in the lies that said Mato was a traitor to humanity.
Her appearance is very similar to her 2012 anime counterpart, mainly used as combat attire. Her primary combat skill is heavy-weapon and vehicular combat, which lead her to being more athletically toned. She is equipped with her sword and shield and rides a tank, which is equipped with laser cannons. She is able to manipulate the earth and gravity.
Codename: White Rock Shooter (Age: Unknown. Aliases: The Clone, The Monster of The Moon, The Lunatic): She is a clone of Mato Kuroi, made from a blood sample that was kept by the Forces. She is meant to be more of a machine than a human, thus she follows orders without question.
Much like her game counterpart, she is identical to Black Rock Shooter in every way, with the exception of her white and pink color scheme and weapons. Her weapons function the same as Mato's, but are also able to transform in her allies and enemies' weapons and grow in size. She is able to manipulate light and sound.
I will not go over most of their abilities, as they are the same as their canonical counterparts. The only differences are that they have elemental manipulation (all of them share fire and electricity manipulation), their specific combat roles, expert vehicular handling, and advanced technological awareness.
It should be noted that all of the ten soldiers have tattoos. Mato has a wolf in a star on her back, with rivers on her abdomen to hide her scars. Yomi has a raven resting on top of a skull on both shoulders. Saya has a dragon curling up her right leg and around her torso, wearing a demonic helmet. Yuu has a tyrannosaurus biting down on chains in the center of her back. Kagari has spiders on her back, shoulders, abdomen, and legs. WRS has none.
Transformations
Insane
Insane is a transformation unique to Mato and Saya. This increases their performance overall by 10, but risks the user losing control of themselves in a berserker rage, due to the immense power.
Despite this, it CAN be tamed. However, the price is that the user loses a bit of power. Taming results in the form’s strength dropping from a x10 to an x7. Despite not being as powerful, the control of the form more than makes up for it….provided you MAINTAIN control.
This form is achieved by Saya and Mato activating a program installed in them. Each of them have one half of the activation code.
For Mato, the form looks just like Insane BRS from the 2012 anime, if existed in the PSP game, Fragment mobile game, and Dawn Fall anime; purple flames, Insane Blade Claw, Insane Cannon Lance, and all.
For Saya, she will appear heavily armored, completed with giant wings, and an arm-mounted chainsaw.
Taming this form will result in the colors returning to their initial states.
Beast
Beast is a transformation that is shared among the first ten soldiers, including WRS. This transformation increases the user's power by 5, but due to the dangers of this power, it is locked and can only be used during an encounter with an A-level threat.
As this is shared among the group, physical attributes seen on BRS Beast are carried over to the other characters. This mainly includes the crown and limbs.
Antagonists
United Nations Peacekeeping Forces: They are a group, consisting of military, scientists, doctors, engineers, and various others. Developed in the mid 21st century, they were meant to help maintain a prosperous future for humanity.
Unfortunately, like everyone who had great power, some leaders were consumed by greed and corruption. This resulted in the public to begin calling out the Forces. To make the public believe that the group were just, they staged several attacks on major cities, before developing a cover story that the Jikken Army was to blame.
Some of the military faction became the Jikken Army prior to this, realizing just how far the group had strayed from its initial, peaceful goals.
Jikken Army: Some of the military of the United Nations Peacekeeping Forces became the Jikken Army as the Forces strayed too far from their original goals.
Initially, they wished to do what the Forces failed to do (which was maintain a brighter future for humanity), but were forced into war when the Forces staged several attacks, before unjustly blaming them for the destruction.
Ultimately, Mato discovered them and gathered intel, which resulted in her having a chat with the Jikken Army's commanders. They pleaded Mato to help them end the war that was killing humanity. Mato, however, declined as she believed this war was not worth fighting for anymore.
Because of Mato's actions, she is wanted by both the Forces and Army, meaning she has no choice but to go on the run and fight her own battles. Such is the life of the infamous Black Rock Shooter....

that old black rock shooter game was so awesome.
featured:
1. hot witch lady that speaks Spanish and licks BRS’ face in the first chapter of the game
2. setup of the weird and creepy trope of ‘oh we found the last female on the planet, maybe there’s hope for humanity down the line if you know what I mean’ that turns out to be a rare case of het baiting! because
3. the moment BRS and the last guy they’re hinting at to have the strongest connection with her are alone, a pink bunny alien girl sends out a drone and atomizes him instantly
4. BRS is found and taken in by another mysterious girl (Nana) that she quickly forms a stronger attachment to even though this girl kinda toys around with her
5. even so one of their first scenes together is BRS looking so lost and puppylike that Nana just pats her lap and lets her come lay her head down
6. Nana continues to tease BRS in missions. Tells her she’s going through the forest and that as her knight she has to protect the princess wherever she goes (it’s a real mechanic that she’ll just walk through the stage and you have to run interference and not let enemies touch her or it’s a fail/retry)
7. Also makes BRS bark like a dog for her at one point and BRS acquiesces because she wants to make Nana happy
8. If anything happens to Nana throughout the story BRS is a loose fucking canon and never lets the boss enemies finish monologuing before opening fire
9. against the final boss she runs up and stabs her from behind mid sentence but the final boss in what is maybe the most metal move of all time just walks off of the blade and continues talking
10. Nana makes a joke about eating BRS , which has plot significance because someone else in the game wants to eat her and it’s implied (and outright shown in the manga) that clothes are removed before this happens. BRS panics cutely even with her big big gun because she takes Nana so literal and ends up clocking her
11. The winning design for a contest that determined a costume BRS could get was the one inspired by Makise Kurisu from Steins; Gate because huke was the character artist for both

Black rock shooter the game
Today, we're going to talk about a 13-year-old video game, which is a great memory for me because it was the first full English video game I completed, and I almost understood everything they said (I played it with a Spanish-English dictionary in hand, haha).
Tumblr media
Black Rock Shooter: The Game is an action RPG set in a dystopian future where Earth is on the brink of destruction. The story follows Black Rock Shooter (BRS), a mysterious, powerful girl with a black outfit and a massive gun for an arm. Humanity is being decimated by an alien invasion, and only a few survivors remain.
Tumblr media
The game is set in the year 2051, with Earth’s population reduced to just 12 humans, and they pin their hopes on BRS to fight the alien invaders and reclaim the planet. As BRS awakens, she joins forces with these survivors to battle against the alien armies, uncovering hidden truths about her own existence and the aliens' purpose.
Tumblr media
Black Rock Shooter: The Game is classified as an action role-playing game (ARPG). It combines elements of real-time combat and strategic gameplay, where players control Black Rock Shooter in fast-paced battles against enemies while managing her abilities and resources. The game features RPG elements such as character progression, customization, and a narrative-driven story
Tumblr media
The game explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and survival in a war-torn world, and its fast-paced combat system blends action with strategic elements. And you can play it on a PSP or in the PPSSPP emulator. Although it's a bit old, it was a unique game. The story may have a few clichés, but it still has a lot of interesting elements and concepts.
