I am close to dropping my OC introduction w/Chapter 1 within the next month (August). Just want to do it right and get SOME engagement. So tips for using this platform is really appreciated. Having said that: 1. Madienne Dax aka "Mad" or Mad Momma Dax. I liked the idea of an OC who was angry at the system (Republic/Empire) and maybe a bit crazy to do the things she does. Name reflects the characters traits.

Middle age (approx), older single mom.

Hunter from The Bad Batch. Mad and Hunter are both working out their trust issues, evading the Empire, and trying to raise kids in this messed up galaxy.

Food in general. My OC lives hand to mouth and food insecurity happens quite frequently. She goes without so her teen can eat at times.

Smuggler as a front. Really transports orphans, refugees, escaped prisoners of war, other rebels, animals, medicine, weapons, supplies, etc.

No time for hobbies. Busy with rebel stuff, and trying to keep her Force sensitive teen out of trouble. However, when she meets Hunter...he becomes a bit of a hobby. She loves music and plays it on her ship (The Dread Beldame "The 'Dame"), that has an amazing sound system. Likes to dance, rarely gets a chance to do it.

Defend those they love. Try to reunite families. Try to survive in a galaxy taken over by the Empire.

Take care of people. Make hard decisions about people's lives. Has to let go if things don't go well. She cannot take care of everyone. This shit haunts her.

Mad and her teen belong to the Nomaadi Star People (think American Nomads with some slight Romani influence). Her people evade the Empire and keep moving constantly. But when they do gather by word of mouth, there are HUGE family gatherings and parties. Rarely happens, so they are very much cherished.

Mad's lover and Love's father (her teens name is Love) left her when he found out she was pregnant with Love. He stays away until later on in the timeline. Very hurtful part of her life. He is nameless for several chapters, because BIG reveal to his identity. (Hint: it's NOT Hunter-he shows up when Love is a teen).

Yes.

Mad is actually me. I have always wanted to be in space. It also is helping me work out existential dread about the world right now, daddy issues, my age, and an outlet of a whole host of other things. I am making a writers journey on paper though her. Plus I got a Hunter kink, and this helps me explore that.

Sci-fi/Space Fantasy.

It is fluid: Genderfluid/She/Her/Them/They/Xi/Xem. Mad spent a considerable amount of time asexual due to issues with first partner. Then when she was lonely and intimatly seeking physical contact, bi/pan. Although the preference is men, she won't turn down an amazing trustworthy person of any gender/species. It's the heart that really matters.

In the Nomaadi tradition, family is HUGE. This culture has bio siblings and adopted non blood sibs. Either status is not more important than the other. Family is family. The number can be limitless (same with mothers, fathers, aunties, uncles, couzins). Since everyone keeps moving, you might see them all rarely unless they travel exclusively with you.

Maami and Paapi Daal (Matriarch and Patriarch of The Nomaadi Star People) are bio and adopted parents to literally hundreds (thousands?) of nomadic peoples constantly traveling the galaxy. Mad's relationship with them is very close, even if they are all separated and far away.

I like that Mad is loving, fierce, independent, capable, strong (even physically-she's a big woman), has a sense of humor, and is a pretty good dancer (in the rare chance she gets to do it). Very vivid personality.

I still need to draw my OC. Just started writing about Mad several months ago. I haven't written since grade school, but LOVED it. I don't know what the hell took me so long. Guess I needed a suitable platform. Found it here. I am writing approx 1-3 times weekly.

Well, just starting writing chapters 1-3 on my computer and 3-5 in a journal. So the start of the story (with OC introduction) is just unfolding. But I might eventually "retire" her towards the end. Maybe. We'll see.

Losing her teen and family. Family is EVERYTHING to the Nomaadi. They are usually poor and don't really own much, so there isn't too much to fear losing. If a Nomaadi is financially struggling, they have a network to contact family for assistance (although that is becoming extremely difficult with the rising Empire). The Nomaadi Creed is to help each other out. You can actually be held accountable if you refuse to help family. So, if they lose family, it's terrifying. You are basically losing a loving safety net...and in some cases your family history.

Several: The Republic treated Mad and The Nomaadi horribly, like second class citizens for the one thousand years it was in power. The Empire takes it further and sets out to exterminate them. So, it's an overall system of enemies. Mad's lover also shows up to finally "claim" his teen conveniently after learning of their powerful Force abilities. He's sort of a villian, but may become an anti-hero towards the end.

Approx 4-5 months.

Aww hun, you shouldn't feel bad, it was nothing, really, and totally deserved it. It's not like I have this enormous following scene behind me, I'm nobody!

I envy your skills with lighting, depth of field and all in all visual effects. I am absolutely useless with using anything of the like, I barely pose the figures and shoot the scenes, so all the work that goes into yours is admirable! The crumpled Ghost mask that I saw in one recently had me all giddy. I wouldn't know where to start to do that, or to have the mask up his nose, or things like that. Remarkable.

You are so, so kind to mention '3D talents' but I assure you I have none... I just like making people happy by allowing them to live vicariously through their view of theis OCs or self inserts (it's not like I'm on demand or something lol). Never in my life did I think I'd still be here when I started posting my silly fanfic in May.

you were tagged in something called illicit affairs and i was wondering if that’s something you’re gonna be writing or co writing on? it sounded so freaking good you and all your friends seem to have amazing ideas

i’d love for you to dabble in actual callum and actual austin fic i love the way you write there’s so much respect in it for the people you write about and i live vicariously through your words.

I have the most amazinggggg friends, it is true, not only are their brains so wet and juicy and ever imaginative, they also let me just scream and blab and then help it become cohesive or create their own incredible worlds inspired by it -whatever the case, it’s a creators wet dream and they deserve alllllllll the shoutouts.

The idea of a OC musician celebrity who was part of the Arctic Monkeys, hired by Baz, etc, has long been a harbored concept of mine. I had a whole fic half written called Music Like a Heatwave that centered around crafting the soundtrack with Austin.

Aaaaaand due to feeling bumb about the idea I deleted the whole thing over a year ago. REGRETS IVE HAD A FEW! Ugh, I hate the writing life sometimes.

Anyways, I shared this idea with my baby Bri, @stylespresleyhearted and now you see what a grand world she’s woven for it all, so beyond the meager fleshing out I started with.

I’ve currently got my hands full so it’s not in the works or intended currently on my own radar. Should I ship my OCs with canon characters in my fanfics. I am trying to write one and I feel like a self insert cuz I like the canon character so much, but canon/OC fics in this fandom are rare (moreso with the main character)

Absolutely, yes, by all means. If you want to ship your own OCs with canon characters, fucking GO for it. I'm currently working on three fics outside the Halo fandom that are just different versions of the same OC with canon characters, and the one I wrote for Ghostbusters has gotten over 130 hits and some very nice comments!! And that OC? She's a self-insert because SI OCs are extremely cool! Live vicariously through your OCs! This is fanfic, that's what it's for!

And while engagement isn't everything, I do understand that it certainly helps. But just because OC/canon character or self-insert/mary sue characters aren't popular doesn't mean you won't find an audience! It may not be a big audience and it will take time for people to find your work, but people will enjoy it! Also, I do not understand why people love to hate on self-inserts and mary sues so much and call them 'bad writing'. They're EVERYWHERE, even in published popular works! There is nothing at all wrong with making a self-insert OC, even one that's 'poorly balanced' because again, this is YOUR fanfic! You can do what you want and you don't NEED to focus on writing well or correctly, contrary to what some stuck-up self-important people might say!

Hi! My intro's a little late, but... I'm Himi (hee-mee) or Max and I'm a storyteller and a builder. The pic above is my OC Quela (kay-la, or more precisely, as you would pronounce the words in Spanish); they're one of the central characters in my Keystone universe.

I was in my 20s when The Sims came out. My mother thought I would love it. Can't say that I ever received a more perfect gift. I skipped 2* and 3 because LIFE, but I lived vicariously through my BFF who I got hooked. I came back in 2019 to 4 and promptly made a simblr then, but I had no idea what to post, so it died a silent death.

These days I'm adapting one of my fanfics into a simscomic as a sort of trial to get a feel for how I want to go about bringing my original works to life. So I'm here to share tales from my fanfic and Keystone universe storyboards.

I don't do a whole lot of organic gameplay and unless I get inspired by a theme, like my Tiny Home World Tour, my builds are generally for storytelling purposes. There isn't much to see here yet, but you can check out some of my recent builds on my main @greighish (gray-ish).

1. what’s your favourite genre to write?

Hurt comfort / sickfic. Comfort has always been a favourite of mine and for sure being able to put myself or the characters I’m writing for in a comforted position makes me happy. Yes. I am living vicariously through my fics. Honestly, dream situation / based or sourced situations too, like, stories based on a song or movie or series, or a real life situation that happened. 

2. do you pull inspiration from real-life, or do you pull things from other books/fanfic?

Yes I pull from real life often or music. I wrote a whole cod headcannons chapter based off of the album crybaby once, and it’s my favourite ever. I still haven’t released it. Or my sapnap Christmas fic, based off of a dream I had about Christmas. 

3. do you tend to write one-shots, short stories, or longer things?

It’s a mix really I enjoy it all, so sometimes it’s a long one shot, or a short one, or it’s a 10 chapter story like my fic viridity. In the world of rewriting it as we speak. 

4. do you prefer description or dialogue?

BOTH. Even though description is my main these days, I used to do heavy Instagram / text fics when I was in my bts fic arc. I still need to do more of that, I’ve been considering doing that recently for supernatural or call of duty. Like a college type thing. 

5. favourite fanfic/book of all time?

Probably the ugliest professor on wattpad. It’s a really good namjin fanfic that I have in my favourites. It’s by HobisHearteu if you’d like to go check it out or it’s in my Shit Man I’m Brain Fckd list on wattpad (i am doitinmyjaebum on wattpad)

6. favorite trope?

Probably doctor / patient or barista / customer. Mainly a soft / scary trope has always been my favourite. Though recently I’ve been indulging in found family / little brother work. It makes my inner child happy. 

7. are you the kind of person to work on more than one wip?

WIP WIP WIP. MORE THAN ONE. I HAVE LIKE 70 ATM. Tommyinnits guide to making friends is still in the works and so is A Burning love for Juliet (castiel x reader). I have about 5 others at the moment. They’ll find their way out eventually

8. how long have you been writing for?

Since I can remember being able to write essays. Maybe since 3rd grade? My first ever fic was two oc’s diamond and Ruby. It was when I thought I was straight and just enjoyed putting boys and boys together and girls and girls. No dude. Ur just a gay guy. 

9. do you tend to write more during the morning, afternoon, or evening?

Night and evening tbh. It’s when I’m most creative cause my friends are all asleep and I have pure freedom of the mind. I Can throw my music on and enjoy the idea flow. 

10. do you prefer to post your wip chapter by chapter, or do you prefer to wait until your wip is 100% finished before posting?

OH GOD THIS ONE UHHHH it’s a mix 💀💀 I can never pick one honestly. I do both all the time. I’ll post like a part one of like a ghost x reader then post a full 6 part of like dean x reader slow burn. I CANT wait to start posting on this acc!!

I'm going to go with the little verse of Wearing Your Wounds and Sanctuary because they're the Dalton Ranch fics, and they have OCs.  For Jack's mom, I think Sally Field, yes?  For Jack's sister Shelly, I think I'd cast Rachel Griffiths (from Brothers & Sisters), her husband Joe could be Ian Bohen (from Yellowstone & Teen Wolf), and I have no idea about the kids.  I used to have favorite actor kids, but they've all grown up!

I answered this one for pluto, but I'll give you another one because I don't just have one.  The Care & Feeding of MacAndJack is one of my favorites.  It's an outsider POV (via Annie, my fave nurse), and I had a lot of fun writing someone else's thoughts on Mac and Jack and their partnership. 

💛 What is the most impactful lesson you’ve learned about writing?

Writing is a great outlet for feelings.  Stories are some of the oldest ways to communicate and work through things, and they can evoke all the emotions.  Sometimes, you want to feel like you're part of the team.  Sometimes, you need to live vicariously through someone else's comfort.  Sometimes, you need to work through pain by putting it on a fictional character.  There have been times that I've cried my way through writing a story, but I've felt better afterwards.

It was a Friday evening, and Athena was in her office going over some test results from a recent lab before she took off for the weekend. Pietro sat in his usual spot on the couch on the far wall.

“Like what?”

“Like that,” she said, gesturing to his face and feigning annoyance.

He stood up and walked over to her desk, perching himself on the corner near a of large stack of files and papers.

“How could I not? You’re like the sun.” He delicately placed two fingers under her chin, gently moving her head up from report she was annotating so she was looking up at him.

She silently stared into his eyes, taking in the deep blues and cool grays of his irises.

“Why the sun?” she whispered, after a few beats, deciding to finally break the intimate silence.

“Bright, blinding, warm.” he said, now stroking her cheek.

“You know, you’re not supposed to stare directly into the sun. It’s terrible for your vision. You can actually develop these tiny blind spots called—”

Pietro dropped his hand from her face and pulled back, his expression changing from sultry to serious.

Realizing this man is intent on distracting her from wrapping up her work for the week, Athena straightens up the papers in front of her and neatly arranges the items on her desk before standing up out of her chair to face Pietro.

“I have made so many mistakes in my life. So many. But in a way, I’m thankful because they led me to you. There is nothing on this earth I wouldn’t do for you,” he smiled, absentmindedly using his right index finger to draw patterns Athena’s arm.

“Nothing?”

“Nothing.”

“Really?”

“Would I lie?” He waggles his eyebrows.

“I mean—” she teases, looking up and away from him.

“Fine,” he concedes. “Would I lie to you?” He asks, bringing her attention back to him.

Favorite time of the year: Late Autumn when it's generally cold outside but feels nice in direct sunlight sometimes. I enjoy getting to see the gradient of leaves and the holiday aesthetics. It's jacket season, space heater season, and lots of good food season. It's generally rainy around here during that time, which only contributes to the overall cozy feel for me. I love layering up my clothes and trying to stay warm. Winter is a close second - I just love cold weather, and Christmas lights.

Comfort food: Homemade mac and cheese. I can eat that any day, for days.

Do I collect anything?: No, not currently. If I had the money I'd probably have some crystals but I'm broke as hell so I just live vicariously through my OCs -- much cheaper! Lol but really, even if I could afford it I don't think I would want to collect anything in particular, not a lot at least. I don't like to have a lot of Things. Clutter stresses me out. I don't even have a lot of things as it is and I'm already like "Okay I need to get rid of some stuff." Maybe sketchbooks and journals could count as collecting? I use/plan to use them though.

Favorite drink: I love strawberry smoothies but I haven't had one in a long time because I sort of.. broke our old blender. It couldn't handle chopped (previously frozen) prunes and we just haven't gotten another. It's been several months. :') Sweet iced coffee and earl grey tea are some other faves of mine.

Favorite song: Constantly changing, but I'll say that Life Itself by Glass Animals is up there!

Favorite current song: Right now it's a mix of songs called Vampire Party. I've been able to zone out and write or draw with it.

Favorite fic book: I haven't read fanfic in years and couldn’t pin one as a favorite of mine. I also don't have a favorite book (but i’m answering with a book for this--) I've read a decent amount of books but I struggle to retain them, in general. I've been meaning to read more because I want to be better at writing. Currently, I'm reading Black Hills by Nora Roberts. Haven’t gotten far but I’m at least reading. It’s something! :’’D

I’ve been in fandom since I was like 12 and I’m 29 now I’ve seen all the different levels and trends of how fandoms treat people who make x content and my opinion comes down now as “write what you fucking want and tell everyone to eat shit”

There’s to this day a stigma against ocs, especially afab ocs. I’ve seen it in fanfic and in rp. And it all comes from internalized misogyny. I increasing don’t have time for it. I find character creation fun and I like seeing how new people can radically alter the plot. It also gives you a way to explore new or different themes or angles on the material.

It’s free content I’m making because I want to and because I’m excited about the idea. It’s MY fanfic and I get to pick the adventure!!!!!! It’s always heartening ofc to have people like it!!!! But IMO if ur not writing for you in some capacity it’s gonna be trash even if it’s like the most marketable content lol

Tl;dr: every one stop policing people’s fun and just enjoy ppl are making content for free and HAVE FUN

initial thoughts after watching the movie:

what a fever dream lol

dang the way garfield's and mcguire's spidermans live vicariously through holland's

garfield saves mj and mcguire stops peter from killing may's killer :')

with great power comes great responsibility *dies*

i like how tom holland's spiderman ends with accepting his consequences, and also sets himself up to live more like the comic version of spidey

there was no need for the daily bugle as in they didn't really work that into the plot but he's a classic so whateva

glad the movie got the legal stuff out of the way in the beginning

lowkey think it's funny that doc oc takes peter's side as soon as he's cured but i guess you would be indebted to the person who cures you

a part of me felt like they went with trying to cure them because disney didnt want their tom holland version of spidey to cold murder blood on his hands

mj should've pulled a notebook and wrote a letter to herself saying everything she needs to remember peter and she'd know it's real because the letter came from her and ned too and this is my fix-it fanfic idea

andrew garfield's comments were comedic gold

i know end credit scenes usually lead into the next movie but they just shamelessly dropped a full-blown dr strange trailer at the end this time lol

this movie satisfied me like fanfic would :)
