🔮 CRYSTAL BALL — what is a core memory from your childhood that you think defines you today?

Mabel sighs. This isn't... something she likes thinking about, but it's important now.

"I'm not in Gravity Falls anymore, so I can talk about it legally. But this crazy apocalypse happened when me and my brother were twelve. I got put in this weird magic bubble that gave me everything I wanted..."

"and my twin brother was stuck outside, in the literal apocalypse. I don't know how he got to me, but he did. He would have given up everything just for his dum' ol' sister."

Some of her usual positive energy seems to return - a bit more determined now, at the memory.

"That's why I'm where I am now! So I can be the best possible magical girl. So when something bad like that happens again, he doesn't have to save everyone again. He deserves to be protected, too, and that's what I'm gonna do! And I'm gonna do it adorably, because that's what Mabel does best!"

"Aww, I wish... but it's just a regular book that's pretty much a textbook. I could only read as far as I did because it was about magical girls. I'm not really good at reading."

"But - I learn spells next semester! All I really know right now is how to transform, and how to blast baddies with a big old beam of light! It's like a fireworks show! My teachers say I have to stop calling myself the "god of destruction" before I use it, though."

"IT'S LITERALLY AMAZEBALLS."

...Mabel pauses for a moment, before taking a deep breath.

"Sorry! People don't say amazeballs anymore, I know. Wicked? Epic? Poggers? It's the best! Obviously I got cool clothes, but I disagree, demon in my oven! (By the way, can you get out of there? I have to use it for a Home Ec. assignment...)"

"How it happened is the important part, I think. Okay, so, me and my brother go to this little town every summer to kick it with our great uncle and his extended family - Soos, Melody, and they have a baby on the way! Not the point, though. But like, weird stuff happens in that town! So, one day, I'm just exploring town, waiting for my brother to get back to the shack - we stay with Soos, he runs the Mystery Shack, it's a tourist attraction - you should visit! Again, not the point. I like to explore the woods nearby!"

"And... I find this... book."

"Which is weird, because the same thing happened to my brother four years ago."
