Dragon Age Veilguard: Love, Wisdom and Pride
A very long Dragon Age post!
Warnings for: Veilguard Spoilers, Solavellan spoilers.
Okay, so I will preface this by saying that this âanalysisâ primarily focuses on Solasâ arc; both romanced and unromanced. It isnât intended to be a romanticised analysis, though it is very much enamoured with how a romanced Solas and his relationship with Lavellan foils (and informs my reading/reception of) that of Solas and Mythalâs relationship in Veilguard. There is a relationship I will address that I feel does parallel Solas and Mythal! Scroll down to âReading Between the Linesâ if you wanna skip my little intro below. Spoilers follow.
Truth be told, I wasnât ever expecting much in terms of actually getting a sequel to Inquisition. The game dev market went through a tumultuous reshuffle before the remake madness breathed life back into many studios. Bioware game sequels (Mass Effect Andromeda) were underwhelming and not as fleshed out since the EA acquisition. I absolutely believe Bioware would have been shunted had Mass Effect Legendary Edition not been so successful. EAâs reputation was always lacklustre and underhanded, but laying off or losing several head writers attached to Bioware with almost two decades of work under their belts was the biggest red flag. Trevor Morris not being asked to return in exchange for a âbigger nameâ was also a grave warning that returning to the atmosphere, ambience and world of Thedas that we knew was getting further and further away from a plausible reality. And on top of that, thereâs the fact Solas was never intended as a romance interest during early development of Inquisition.
Solavellan seemed doomed!
Despite this, I still held out hope for a sequel, but I feared weâd always be in permanent Solavellan/developmental hell. Heck, Iâm still waiting for a Beyond Good and Evil sequelâthe game released in 2003! So, actually witnessing people play Veilguard, seeing reactions to it, seeing memes and gifs and essay pieces (like this one), itâs like my community has awoken again, and I never thought Iâd see the day. Yet I am not blind to the fact we were robbed of so much potential. I knew thingâs wouldnât live up to re-emerging expectations when Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was rebranded to Veilguardâthe shift seemed to imply less of a primary focus on Solas (and apparently, according to the artbook, the early concept art proves this implication correct).
Things seemed even more dire when the devs revealed there was no tapestry mechanic. I had only one hope: that with the Inquisitorâs confirmed return, weâd get at least some form of catharsis for our Inquisitors (Lavellans and otherwise), if we couldnât get the conclusions to so many storylines present in each of our worldstates. My main fear was that theyâd go the clichĂ©d Ultimate Sacrifice route (which happens anyway, but in a way that makes thematic sense given the stakes and heavily blighted worldstate).
Suffice it to say, there was a lot of evidence that Veilguard would disappoint me in the end. But it hasnât. It hasnât lived up to the many expectations and marks of excellence that the Dragon Age world built itself into with the first three entries, thatâs for sure, but I am also just so deprived of conclusions, of endings (whether it be because TV doesnât exist in a sustainable format anymore or that comicbook movies are made with a sequel in mind, never letting anything just âExit Stage Leftâ gracefully; or the fact we live in a regurgitating content cycle with late-stage-capitalism where anything remotely profitable gets turned into a caricature of itself: Squid Game, Star Wars, etc.). The cycle is so exhaustive that I am actually at a point where I can say I am content with the ending we were given (on a Solas/Solavellan front), Veilguard gave me relief, and beautiful, achy pain to boot. Though I would absolutely be disappointed by both the "non-romanced Solas" endings, given that Solas winds up either "dying alone, forever" or turns to Tyranny.
Now onto the actual review of that Solavellan ending, Mythal and themes of Love!
Note: I have only gotten the âbestâ ending in my first playthrough, but I also thought the consequences of not maxing factions would be more⊠dire? Another note, pls, if your romanced Inky swore to stop Solas, how does that ending differ, if at all? Let me know, Iâm dying here!
Sidenote: Iâm working on writing another review about my views on the âsanitisedâ worldstate, the new companions (and why I think Varric was the wrong choice to have as an advisor in the game, given that the Inquisitor or Morrigan would have been more impactful; and not to mention that Cole or Briala should have been companions), removal of the tapestry and what it means for the future of stories in Thedas (The Story We Lost is such a poignant compilation of the sheer volumes of lost lore and depth that I honestly think I wonât go as in-depth on that review as this one), and why I think Veilguard is my final entry into Dragon Age.
Reading Between the Lines: What Pride Hath Wrought
One thing is for sure, Trick Weekes flourishes when writing within the ambiguities and complexities of meaning. This makes every word uttered by Solas so great to dissect, he's a god of lies not because he 'lies' but because he's so careful with how he phrases things, what he holds back, and what he reveals.
For instance, the famous Trespasser exchange where Solas mocks his own follies with sarcasm by saying:
âWhat is the old Dalish curse? May the Dread Wolf Take you.â
Then a softer, more saddened and beaten-down Lavellan replies:
âAnd so he did.â
This irks him. Because he then realises in that moment that he absolutely did take advantage, but for some reason he frames it around sex rather than power because thatâs easier to address than the latter. And he rejects the notion, even though he brought up the expression he knows to mean nothing close to a sexual inuendo for being âtakenâ, and yet he has the gall to try and derail the conversation by pivoting and saying:
âI would not lay with you under false pretences.â
When I first had this dialogue exchange, I was baffled, because did this mean that there was another meaning to âDread Wolf take youâ that Dalish clans lost through the years, or was it more of a self-deprecating joke Solas had with himself because he, the Dread Wolf, romanced (took) a Dalish Inquisitor (away from her peopleâs beliefs, histories, past), and he found irony in the saying?
On the surface, âwouldnât lay with you under false pretencesâ could simply mean âwe didnât sleep togetherâ or âwe did sleep together, but I wasnât taking advantage as the Dread Wolf, I was simply Solas in your presenceâ. But I have recently thought of a more⊠ambiguous reading.  Lay could have been used in a milder, more vulnerable way; to mean to be at peace, to be completely vulnerable, as if to sleep. In that sense, the phrasing becomes: âI could not be at peace with you because I was living a half-truthâ.
I absolutely think the moment he feels he is truly beyond hope is when we see his expression of abject horror as Lavellan shouts: âI would have had you trust me!â. He realises then that he did fuck up, he did take the choice away from her because he thought he knew better, him and his pride led to a decision that hurt someone close to him, and he could finally see how wrong he was, how alike the entire situation became to Mythalâs treatment of him. Especially if Lavellan asks to go with him. Because he can see that despite the hurt, the lies and the betrayal on his part, Lavellan still wishing to join him draws too close to his first regret: following Mythal.
Whether he likes it or not, Solasâ love which could burn like a bonfire was directed at a powerful womanâa Herald, an Inquisitorâand inspite of her greatness of character, it still shaped her into someone willing to follow him on his dinanshiral out of love, much like he left the Fade and took physical form for Mythal. So now whenever I hear Lavellan shout âVar lath vir suledinâ, Solas replying with âI wish it could, Vhenan,â changes drastically with the Mythal reveal, knowing he always walks away from the Inquisitor in Trespasser.
âI wish it could, Vhenanâ sounds heavily like: âYou would regret me, as I regret Mythal, and I cannot bear for that to happen us.â More poetically, it could read as: âI wish our love could overcome a duty that has lasted an incomprehensible amount of time, I wish I could change my nature, but then Iâd be twisted into a demon, like the spirit of Wisdom in the Dales; and yet again, I would become your regret.â These two readings are very, very romantic. Realistically, given what we know of his kinship with Felassan, and how they were comrades and friends for centuries (âA story unfinished. His back turned!â), and given what we know of the complexity of Mythalâs will that presides over the creation of his very being, and yet he was still able to muster the strength to kill a fragment of her to fulfil his mission,  âI wish it couldâ was most probably a lament: âDo not ask me to hurt one of the two women Iâve loved on this journey, because if it ever came to itâŠâ he would.
Knowing what I know of Solas, of how he was able to convince himself that Varricâs death (avoidable as it was) was just another necessary step, that it was just another sacrifice, another loss that would be worth something only if he completed his ritual, I have no doubt that Solas would also be able to rationalise hurting Lavellan (which is why in his mind, turning away from her, breaking her heart, leaving with no explanation and aiding her in Trespasser so she could live whatever few years remained in ârelative peaceâ is actually an act of preserving that love). I partially think the reason he reveals the truth in Trespasser (especially for a romanced Lavellan) is in the hopes his âtruthsâ will push her away. But on a deeper note, I think he also thinks of it as some twisted form of repaying her for loving him to the point that he could have almost forgotten what it was to be the Dread Wolf, to just be with her as Solas, that night at Crestwood. Maybe his harsh truths would push her to the point where sheâd give up her love for Solas, now that she knew he was the Dread Wolf, freeing her from the shackles of their love. Heâs very self-flagellating, all about self-sacrifice for the ultimate goal, the ends always justify the means, he will endure any pain and punishment as long as Arlathan returns in the end.
What is his love of a mortal compared to the despair and loss of an entire empire? Solas views himself as selfish for falling for her, and that nearly broke him, if he was selfish enough to leave the dream of Arlathan behind for her, what would that do to his spirit then?
In his way of thinking, perhaps telling the Inquisitor the truth is a way out, a rationale they can use to justify stopping him or to make it easier to hate him as the Dread Wolf rather than love him as Solas (someone he hasnât been in so long).
âMaskingâ as the Dread Wolf
During Trespasser, the Inquisitor has every right to despise Solas after all theyâve learned, and I think he half reveals the truth as a tactic so the Inquisitor can have an excuse to hate him, to be driven to anger and have less pull over his choices, once they learn the truth. Solas is particularly skilled at making otherâs play the role that makes his own choices seem inevitable, he orchestrates a lot of events to play out in a manner where it's easier for him to talk himself into bringing down the veil.
He goads Elgarânan to anger easily. He inspires the spirits to fight for him to the death as a necessary distraction during the war. He absolutely allows the Inquisitor to speak to him one last time so he can offer insight, yes, but also so he can easily frame his actions as just and inevitable. But, Oh boy does he get in for a shock if the Inquisitor shows empathy towards him, it scares him because heâs become accustomed to being seen only as the Dread Wolf. To be understood? That gives way to remorse. And remorse gives way to doubt. And he cannot doubt his purpose, twisted as it is, it is all he has left of his former self. Without it he would most likely change into something different. Someone he doesnât recognise.
This fear intensifies more so if a romanced Lavellan asks to go with him, and in that case, he takes command and distances himself away (rejecting the help of someone close to him; the chance for a possible betrayal; the chance at another Felassan or Mythal [x]; the chance to twist Lavellan outside of her purpose, in this case, the purpose would be love/empathy) but not without showing remorse at having sacrificed yet another relationship for his crusade.
âIr abelas.â
Sorrow for what cannot be is at the heart of why the Solavellan romance is so powerful, especially because even though both Solas and Lavellan love each other passionately, love alone cannot be enough when faced with regrets. Love would ultimately be stifled. Corrupted into something else over time. And so, for Solas, having loved and lost tragically is better than having loved and corrupted.
He will not do to Lavellan what was done to him, even if it is her choice, because she knows so little, her naivete cannot close the distance of a milleniaâs old sea, and it would hurt him immensely to take advantage of her kind heart [x].
By leaving, he keeps her heart pure. And the yearning! Knowing the love is there, but on its own it cannot be invulnerable to corruption, so it is better to lose it than twist it. Ugh! Him leaving Lavellan is the ultimate show of love! IT IS A WISE DECISION. A rare glimpse into pure wisdom. Which is why he kneels beside Lavellan in Trespasser, he does not âStand Tallâ in the face of Wisdomâs heart. He kneels beside her. And when he stands tall again, he is Solas once more, filled with regret, and once through the eluvian, he returns to masking as the Dread Wolf.
Sidenote: Itâs especially confounding that Veilguard allows Rook to push the Inquisitor to save or stop him after youâve reached act 2 despite your world state choice (I think this was done in case they feared the Inquisitor wouldnât stand by Solas after everything he was revealed to be responsible for in Veilguard, however it doesnât work because the Inquisitor wasnât an advisor, Rook never told them what they learned from the wolf statues, so having a stranger hold the ability to make Lavellan keep her promise or not rings hollow). Personally, I wish the Inquisitorâs presence had more weight in the non-Solavellan endings, too. I wish the Inquisitor could end up being the last friend/former love that Solas destroys (if you donât collect the wolf statues) which then prompts Rook to fight him because Solasâ last tie to empathy failed to redeem him, that the Inquisitor falling is the last straw and Solas snaps, choosing to be a villain in the hopes of being stopped because he canât stop himself, and not the âI am a Godâ ending they gave us. Same for if your Inquisitor vows to stop him. I also wish the Inquisitor was the one to do the wolf statue missions. Would have been a nice secondary protagonist mission like the switching perspectives between Kratos and Atreus in GOW: Ragnarök (the old guard and the new; Inquisitor and Rook). I would have loved if they dedicated more dialogue to Inquisition days too, which is why I think Cole should have been a companion (if he wasnât recruited, he could simply be a compassion spirit that âfollowsâ the greatest pain in the Fade that yearns to be healed, giving a compassionate viewpoint to Solasâ folly; recruited Spirit Cole could have a greater connection to Solas than even Varric, seeing as Cole was most likely a literal representation of Solas rewriting his own history by preventing a spirit from becoming too ârealâ; Human Cole would have a deeper connection to the world of Thedas, and could have been a great tool to prove how change was inevitable, not always a bad thing, and inevitably out of even Solasâ control. But alas, we live with what we are given! Even Imshael could have served in this role! Spirit/Demon of choice and it wasnât incorporated into the game that supposedly asks you to make the greatest world-changing choice ever; redeem the Dread Wolf or end the age of the Evanuris entirely?!
Now onto the next segment: I want to talk about Solasâ regrets and how I read the âlove storyâ between Solas and Mythal, and why Lavellan (and what she represented) wasnât enough to get through to him (and thatâs a very believable thing, thatâs what makes their love both tragic and epic!).
The High Price of Redemption
A romanced Lavellan has the most agency to see through his guises, if she resolves to save him, but even she cannot undo the shackles that still bind him to Mythalâthe binds that twisted Wisdom so far from its purpose it became Pride, even when he burned (Mythal) from his face. (Likewise, A close friend Inquisitor who promises to save him is most likely a parallel to Felassan, again, they cannot undo the shackles of regret either.) I fully believe the vallaslin had a deeper magic than simply marking one as being committed/devoted to an Evanuris, I think it linked them magically, and since Solas was the first to burn the vallaslin away, he probably wasnât as good at severing the link on himself as he was for other elvhen, so maybe a part of Mythalâs will still lingers in him, twisting him to Pride still.
In Veilguardâs final confrontation, I love the intention of showing how Lavellan approaches Solas slowly, as she doesnât know who sheâll be faced with up those steps, Dread Wolf or Solas. But when she speaks to him, trying to get him to change his mind yet again, forgiving him for his wrongs, we are reassured that Wisdom hasnât been completely consumed by Pride despite everything weâve witnessed in the game because he bows his head at her in reverence as he apologises.
He shows humility towards her. He elevates her and her enduring love as worthy of his respect, but he does not consider himself worthy of hers. Thus, Lavellan pries open the door to acceptance but his heart is still not enough. Which is why love alone cannot turn the tide. Heâs too broken to accept it. He doesnât think he deserves it, so the only way out is through; to continue the ritual, to prove he was right. The shackles persist. Varricâs death weighs on his conscience now more than ever. Possibly members of Rookâs team too if they died on his crusade. But he is vulnerable enough for Morrigan to approach, and now Rook can use Mythalâs essence to make the final push. The only way he could be with Lavellan, the only way he could atone for the past and shed the weight of his armour (his crushing duty to the Elvhenan) is as Wisdom, fully restored, unbound by mistakes.
âAr lasa mala revas.â He could only find absolution once Mythal (the angered and more brash essence of Mythal, the one unchanged by Flemeth and all the human womenâs lives sheâs been shaped by, but the closest iteration to that of Mythal in Arlathan, the version that he perceives as having every right to be angry at him for turning his back on her, for not going that last final stretch with her and subsequently, not being by her side when she died) severed the final connection: facing his regrets, showing humility and apologizing, while not taking away the blame but sharing it.
What is Benevolence without Wisdom if not Hubris?
We know Elgarânan was twisted to Tyranny during the war, and I saw a post somewhere where someone wondered what led to his corruption, and what he was before (leadership/command). Likewise, Mythal was not above corruption.
So far, Iâve seen a lot of takes on Solasâ ties to Mythal, the power dynamic of being a student/disciple enamoured (could be romantic) with the benevolence of Mythal, but not how Mythalâs purpose was possibly also twisted towards hubris the moment she asked Wisdom to turn physical and build weapons from its knowledge, twisting it to Pride. Without Elgarânanâs tyranny to rally against after the war with the Titans, Mythal would most likely turn a similar route, seeing her ruling as ânecessaryâ for the people: âIf not me then who?â. And that is a very short stop and quick drop to âI am your all-powerful ruler, I liberated you, and only I can guide the wayâ. Benevolence twisted by hubris can easily turn to Tyranny too, only one more subtle, a kind of cultish indoctrination compared to violent subjugation. If Solas had not turned his back on Mythal when she chose to be Evanuris (a god over her people) then they most likely would have made the worst (best) pair in the Evanuris. Pride is the Seventh Deadliest Sin. But imagine Pride next to Godhood?! That is frightening. So, when Solas burns the vallaslin, walks away and works against the Evanuris, I believe that he also inadvertently stops Mythal from becoming a corrupted version of herself. The sorrow at having lost her closest confidant and âloveâ grounds her, keeps her saintly in Solasâ mind, and in some ways, perhaps saves the Elvhen empire from a worse fate than him erecting the veil to begin with. But neither of them ever consider this. And I think that sort of self-blindness perfectly encapsulates how flawed both Mythal and Solas are. Now onto love.
Solas and Mythal â a Love too complex to simply classify as mortal âLoveâ.
Thereâs no doubt Mythal and Solas shared a deep bond, one that definitely had love in it, when we hear Mythal calling him âloveâ, without the possessive âmyâ in front of it, itâs easy to misconstrue what type of love they share. A small nitpick, but like a thorn, it applies sometimes just enough pressure to change a perspective. Not calling Solas âMy loveâ but instead choosing to simply use âloveâ works within those wonderful ambiguities/complexities that Weekes thrives in.
If one started out as a spirit, itâs safe to say concepts like familial bonds, romantic bonds, and blood ties mean little to nothing. There is no one type of love and there is every kind of love all at once. It is only once physical bodies are introduced, that physical touch, the ability to stab someone in the back, to kiss out of affection, to hug out of empathy, to strike out of anger, that love now becomes this twisted thing too. There are no spirits of love because spirits always possessed love, but there are demons of Desire (Gluttony) and of Rage (love denied).
I believe, from GDLâs acting skills, his soft whisper, his almost submissive smallness in the breadth of Mythalâs already soft voice, that Solas was in love with Mythal, devoted as a student, beguiled by her benevolence, content even in her shadow, and possibly star-struck. He was in love with someone who doesnât have the possibility to love him back the same, it is not in her nature to love those beneath her in the same intensity that those who look up to her do. Itâs like a priest being in love with God. The priest can devote themselves, sacrifice everything, but a God will always love their flock equally, but they can still play favourites.
Benevolence cannot be enamoured with Wisdom because to be truly benevolent they must possess Wisdom but there is also Pride to be had in walking beside benevolence, but they can never be on equal footing. Likewise, Solasâ love is not reciprocated entirely by Mythal, but she does love him back in her own way. While Mythal is definetly Solasâ first love, layered and complex, it is also strangled by regrets and twisted by uneven scales of power. It would never be a nurturing love, only a consuming kind.
When he speaks of Mythal during the Solavellan ending, he calls her his âoldest friendâ, much like what Mythal says, (paraphrasing) âwould you have me be angry at my oldest companion whose experienced so much with meâ. Because friendship is perhaps the easiest way to describe their companionship. They went through many iterations, one certainly holding romantic tensions (specifically from younger Solas), but ultimately, with that much time shared, kinship/friendship becomes the easiest to surmise. You can love your friends, fall in love with them, fall out of love with them, only to love them again, be disappointed in them, etc.
Media today is flushed with romance as a linchpin for driving a hero to make dire choices, and that has warped our perception of how a platonic/non-romance-based relationship can be all-consuming, and sometimes more impassioned than strict romance. But, to make it easier for people to understand Solasâ motivations, it's easier to see their love in the light Taash sees it (an unreliable, somewhat âstill juvenileâ narrator, in that they are still growing into themselves and their culture and the world): âThey were doing itâ.
However, Bellara, a companion whose entire companion story is linked to her strong, deeply character-driving relationship with her brother (platonic love) refutes that reading by saying (paraphrasing here): âWe donât know if their âloveâ is the same type of love we tend to think of in a masculine and feminine relationship.â
Felassanâs letter after the Mythal Dragon fight alludes to Solas having been in love with Mythal, but nothing about how she felt. This is why I consider the Solas/Mythal relationship to be more of a one-sided romantic love, but a requited âloveâ relationship for them both. ïżœïżœ
A parallel I find so compelling: Solas and Mythal vs Briala and Celene. Solas and Briala both hold deep emotions for people in great power with the ability to end a tyrannical cycle of subjugation, enslavement and classism, yet for both of these rulerâs charisma and well-meaning intent, they often are swayed to side with tyranny. For Mythal, that was Elgarnan, the Evanuris who made all the otherâs worse tyrants; as well as her own hubris for believing her presence alone could dampen the ravenous hunger for power that the rest of the Evanuris held at the small prospect of leading the Elvhen in a time of confusion (being a North Star is hard when all the other lights around you aim to blind the flock into submission). For Celene, this is more about the nuances of retaining favour, pull and power over other noble families, their backing (be it financial, political or simply cut-throat), and their support so she can be the âlesser of two evilsâ compared to Gaspardâs warmongering personality and Florianne simply being a puppet with no backbone. Both Briala and Solas are turned to pawns despite their immense strength and compassion for their respective elven plights; Briala is rendered a fangless lion (for lack of a better metaphor) if she is reunited with Celene, whereas if she is chosen to puppet Gaspard, thereâs every likelihood her story could parallel a âpower-madâ Solas if heâd been tethered to Rage (at betrayal) and not Regret (at having not rejected Mythal when she asked him to take a physical body) throughout his tenure as the Dread Wolf.
Solas and Lavellan â a Heart that was never intended to be Given/Taken
Now I will compare the lack of possessives in front of Mythalâs âloveâ to Solas declaring Lavellan as âVhenanâ and then âAr lath, ma Vhenanâ vs âAr lath ma vhenan'; again, the coma is the thorn, the pause that shapes the quiet unsaid things we can deduce. In the Trespasser cutscene DGL puts the pause after âAr lathâ, even though the subtitles construct the sentence with Vhenan as a proper noun since itâs a nickname often used by Solas: âAr lath ma, Vhenanâ. But I believe Solas actually says âAr lath, ma Vhenanâ.
With âAr lath, ma Vhenanâ the stressor is after the pause, so the line reads: âI love [you], my heart.â And with âAr lath ma, Vhenanâ it makes even less structural sense but can be inferred to mean: âI love you, Heartâ. Â
The possessiveness of âMyâ is what definitively differentiates the love Solas feels for Lavellan as one more of the romantic side, it is a love of yearning and desire and a wish to have one last good thing that is pure and incorruptible. The one thing he had left to give. His heart. But that does not mean his heart is enough! The rest of him is still bound to the love of Mythal that was twisted through the ages. That changed him. And given how Pride often comes before a fall, I absolutely understand why Solas is actually very brash and ill-considering when heâs romancing Lavellan (âThe kiss was ill-consideredâ/âIt would be kinder in the long runâ/âI wanted to show you what you mean to meâ). He's on a precarious cliff during Inquisition. His first plan failed. He's allowed ancient elvhen magic to fall into a blighted Tevinter magister's hands. Literally everything the Inquisition did could have been for nought if the Mark had fallen to the wrong person. Things could have easily fallen apart for Solas too, so why not indulge in something trifling and fleeting? Execpt it wasn't trifling. Nor was it fleeting. And when he saw that the fall could potentially not happen, that the Inquisitor could do it, save Thedas and retrieve the orb, he was struck by the gravity of his brashness, of letting impulses control him instead of acting according to a plan. But it was too late. They'd both fallen for each other.
Solas didnât expect to form entanglements within the Inquisition. He was committed. He was angry at the world, âwalking through a sea of tranquilâ, called flat-ear by the Dalish that later chased him from their village when he proved he was the Dread Wolf. He was despised by people who looked like him. Spirits were constantly being abused and turned into demons. People erected monuments to heroes who slew demons. Mages were caged. Elves were subjugated. The empire fell. Humans razed the lands with their wars and petty squabbles of succession. The darkspawn tainted the land. The dwarves would never dream. Solas awoke to the worst possible fate; in his eyes, it was all his fault.
So when he kisses Lavellan in the Fade, impulsively, he isnât kissing her there because it is less ârealâ than if they kissed while she was awake, it makes it so much more real. Heâs kissing her in the space where he is most himself. Where he can shed the body he was forced to build and trap himself within, the body of Pride. He is acting on the impulses of an enlivened Wisdom spirit that does not consider tomorrow, for the first time in a long time. It isnât a long game with Lavellan, like so much of his life has been about always thinking to the future, always considering the outcome, machinating, scheming, the wiles and woes of every trickster god in mythology. Itâs being in the moment with her that is all-consuming. It lowers his guard, leaves him vulnerable, and when she enquires about the Fade or spirits or histories, he gets to be useful as pure Wisdom again.
Lavellan challenging him when he first shows animosity or irritation towards the Dalish (a prideful act), and then him being taken aback when she explains that maybe the Dalish could be shown another way (making him consider her words, being given a morsel of wisdom back, reminding him of his old self), these are all small moments where Solas can begin to see springs of hope in the broken world. And thatâs terrifying. It means heâs destroying not just himself, but the memory of Mythal and Arlathan too, all for the love of a woman who fell for an apostate.
The best, most genuine unmasking of Solas for me is during Wicked Hearts, when heâs tipsy on wine, has no inhibitions, and revels in the intrigue, the gossip, the dancing, the music (something we now know is important enough to have an entire music room in the Lighthouse), the sex! He is at his most relaxed, and then he asks Lavellan to dance, not caring about how it would look for the âInquisitorâs serving man, Solasâ to be intimate in a fucking Orlesian palace with the Herald of Andraste, right after stopping an assassination attempt! He finds comfort in the world of Thedas at that moment. Something he rarely shows so outright.
When he takes Lavellan to Crestwood to confess, I believe removing her vallaslin wasnât entirely just for her, it wasnât just to free her from slave markings or to simply reveal a form of a truth he wanted to tell her, it was to resolve himself of what his first purpose was supposed to be, what she distracted him from. Removing the vallaslin had been something heâd done for the slaves of Arlathan, it was what earned him the mantle of Dread Wolf. When he removes Lavellanâs vallaslin, he resets.
Thedas cannot allow Wisdom to truly exist without fear of corruption to Pride, Thedas the world he was responsible for shaping, literally the Maker of the Veil, and he falls for a woman Heralded as Andrasteâs Chosen One, Mythalâs incarnation in the South. The irony. The cruel, cruel irony. The Inquisition is tied to his past, every Andrastian he meets, every Dalish person with vallaslin on their face, every slave or city elf. Tevinter worshiping the dragons that still have the essences of the Old Gods. His heart alone cannot withstand all of the punishing, gruelling, oppressive weight that is Thedas. Even for Lavellan. So he frames their romance as this tragic, short-lived tale that was beautiful but ultimately destined to end. He expects it to pass for her, sheâs mortal after all. But he also leaves his heart with her, literally giving her power over the last uncorrupted part of himself. Think Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann at the end of Worldâs End, but metaphorically. He gives her his heart to safe keep as he goes on a journey that could corrupt a heart, turn it cold and bitter, destroy it. Â Â
Ar lasa mala revas. You are free.
He frees his heart.
Lets it go.
Twice!
So only once he is relinquished of his regrets, once Mythal does the same for him, only then is there âNothing left except their loveâ. Because Lavellan still held his heart there was still something left after. Something beyond despair and regret and loss. He had given his heart to her to safekeep. And she did. Lavellan returns his heart to him when he is freed. What Mythal had to break so Solas could heal right again (like a bone), Lavellan casts a splint around so it can be set and heal properly. This is the difference between Mythalâs love and Lavellanâs. Both Mythalâs love and forgiveness broke him, but Lavellanâs love gives him the strength to Stand Tall one last time.
Solas, before Pride alone, as Wisdom (perhaps Solas always meant both Standing Tall and Wisdom, for Wisdom can grant one pride to stand tall for what they believe in), finds contentment with the rare and marvellous spirit that endured (his Vhenan). Wisdom endured because of humanity, something benevolence is beyond.
Bellanaris
When Lavellan offers to go with him, to continue on the dinanshiral that she already considers herself a part of, Solas is legitimately taken aback. His expression is soft yet full of disbelief and awe. He actually stops walking a few frames before Lavellan says this, as if hoping Lavellan would say something to him!
And then she basically proposes to him! âBellanaris!â I absolutely adore the fact that Lavellan promises them eternity. A vow as sacred as a death right, as protected as an ancient, elvhen, undisturbed burial ground in the face of Orlesian colonialisation. They endured and now they will have an eternity. For once, we have an elvish tale that is not a curse, it is a love story with reunion at its core, where both elves reclaim something precious that was denied them.
Lastly, i am absolutely frothing at the mouth that Solas and Lavellan primarily speak in elvish! And even more feral at the fact Solas does not try to talk her out of joining him (because this sweet talker very well could!). He simply tells her where he is going is terrible. And she shuts that shit down immediately. No repeat of Trespasser. She's standing beside him, the South has all but fallen, whatever ties yet survive are strained, and she has fought the good fight for 8 years. I think the Inquisitor was about ready to leave Thedas behind.
The last decisions Solas makes are of his own volition. Entering the Fade for atonement. Stepping into the Fade with Lavellan (It was confirmed by Weekes that Lavellanâs presence in the Fade prison would fundamentally change it in a way we havenât seen!). Thanking Rook for giving him one last shot at getting happiness. All his own!
This is the look of a man finally reunited with his wife! So much emotion in ONE frame. God! Thereâs never been a character like him. A love story like theirs! Iâm so happy I got to see this ending. Full circle!
P.S. If you read this far, woah nelly! Thatâs crayyzeee, so here are some more great pieces: Why it was important for Lavellan to kneel for Solas as he knelt for her in Trespasser in the Solavellan ending [x], and hereâs a great deep-dive on Solas as a spirit of Wisdom [x].

Pairing - Mason Mount Ă Reader
Word count - 4.6k
Warnings - smutty and fluffy
Visiting Mason in Manchester was always a good time.
No matter what you were doing it was just good to be back in his company with all of your shared friends, catching up on everything youâd missed and with it being international break he had a bit more time to spend with you guys now. Taking you all out for dinner at his new favourite restaurant before going out for a few drinks. You werenât out long though, everyone complaining that they were tired after the long journey that day so you all made your way back to Masons to get ready for bed.
Everyone else had gone up already but you and Mason had made home in the kitchen. Chatting away like time meant nothing but before long he was pulling you upstairs and into his room as he was getting a little uncomfortable sat on the kitchen stools.
âWow, Mason Mount's bedroom, Iâm honouredâ you laughed, flopping down next to him but the groan and roll of his eyes let you know he wasnât entirely happy with your sarcasm.
âYou should be. First girl Iâve had in here Iâll have you knowâ he huffed, taking his jeans off before collapsing down next to you. To anyone else it might of looked a bit weird but the pair of you were close and before long he was turning on his side so you could face each other but you noticed his cheeky smile was missing.
âYeah like Iâm gonna believe thatâ you teased, knowing Mason had always been a bit of a ladies man but the pair of you never really discussed any of that.
âItâs true. Iâm a changed manâ he laughed âNot that I was sleeping with the world and his wife before but you know what I meanâŠâ he laughed awkwardly.
âSo whatâs changed?â
âDunno, just donât fancy it anymore. Itâs not⊠funâ
âYou were flirting with that girl all night, you canât tell me you werenât having a good time thenâ you teased, watching his cheeks flush slightly but his cheeky smile returned and you felt better. âI really thought you were gonna get her number at leastâ
âWell yeah I can talk the talk but I canât seem to walk the walk right nowâ he huffed, shuffling so he could lie on his back and look up at the ceiling. The prospect of having this conversation whilst having to look at you clearly was too much for him so you followed suit and laid down on your back next to him. âFlirtingâs fine, I can talk for England but anything more itâs like I panic lately. Like Iâve put all this pressure on myself and itâs messing me up. Itâs like Iâm sabotaging myself so we donât make it to the main eventâ
âSo youâre not enjoying it? Sex I meanâ
âI guessâ he laughed awkwardly and you could see his face was as red as a tomato from the corner of your eye. You wanted to push him to talk about it some more but you also didnât want to make him uncomfortable so without a second thought you reached over to try and find his hand on the bed. Linking your pinkies together and you were surprised he held yours tightly.
âYou donât have to be awkward about it, Mase. Weâre friends right? And weâve all done itâ
âYeah I guess soâ
âSo what donât you like?â
âI dunno like⊠I always feel rushed. Thereâs a lot of pressure to⊠you know. Get them where they need to go but itâs like I donât know what I like anymore. I focus so much on the other person that when it gets to the main event itâs all I can think about and itâs like I put myself off. Sometimes it feels a bit underwhelming and tense and the more I try the worse it getsâ
âSo you wanna be a bit selfish huh?â You smiled, turning your head to face him but he refused to look at you.
âN-no I just-â
âIâm kidding Maseâ you laughed watching his face fall slightly before turning his head away from you.
âIt doesnât matter anyway, letâs just go to sleep. You can stay here if you want or the room over the hall is freeâ he told you, turning fully onto his side and away from you and you felt your heart sink.
You hadnât meant to upset him, you just wanted to get to the bottom of why he wasnât feeling it but in the process youâd made him feel awkward. Not that he ever needed to be around you, youâd been best friends for years and whilst the furthest youâd gone with him was a drunken three second kiss in a club once, in the back of your mind you liked to think you knew what he would like and what he would want.
That didnât make you feel any better though, looking at him now. His body slumped into the mattress as he sulked, the back of his neck as red as his cheeks out of embarrassment and all you wanted was to apologise and let him know he had nothing to be embarrassed of.
In the end you shuffled up to him, you front pressed into his back as you snaked an arm around his waist to hold him close and you smiled as you felt him relax into you.
âSorry Mase, I didnât mean to make you feel bad or awkward or anythingâ you told him quietly. Pressing a small kiss to the back of his neck to let him know how sorry you were and you were surprised to feel him shiver at the contact. âYou know youâve got nothing to be ashamed of and all I want is to helpâ
âI knowâ he sighed, threading his fingers through yours that were settled on his tummy before you dropped another kiss on the same spot on his neck. Pride filling you as you a shuddery breath left his lips and all you wanted was to carry on making him feel good.
âYouâre allowed to want to be a bit selfish. Sex is a two way street and you shouldn't feel pressured about worrying if the other person is enjoying it to the detriment of your own pleasure. You need someone whoâll look after you tooâ
He didnât answer, only a short breath passing his lips that let you know heâd heard you and you knew you needed to work a little harder.
âThese girls, you donât really know them do you? You donât know what they like and they donât know what you like and thatâs the issue really isnât it? You wanna be relaxed but your too focused on figuring each other outâ
âBasicallyâ he uttered, his head nodding into the pillow and you lent up just a smidge so you could place another kiss just behind his ear this time. His nervous gulp making his whole body move but soon enough he was relaxing back into you.
âYou need someone you can trust. Someone who knows you and you canât trust them can you? You want a connection and you canât give them the time to figure you out and know what buttons to press. Thatâs what you want isnât it?â
âYeahâ he gulped, his breathing changing the more you spoke to him and you knew it was now or never or youâd back out. Iâm
âThey donât know you like I do Mason. They canât give you what I canâ you told him. The words falling from your lips before youâd even thought about it but as soon as they had you knew what you had to do. What you wanted to do for your best friend even though this wasnât typically what best friends did.
âYou can trust me Mase. And I bet I can make you feel so goodâ you told him, lightly scratching your nails over his abs as you felt them tense under your touch. âWill you let me try?â
âY/n I- I donât knowâ he mumbled, his voice sounding conflicted but he hadnât said yes so you started to pull away just in case he was feeling uncomfortable with your touches.
âThatâs okay, Iâll stopâ you told him, pulling back as you didnât want to push him and make him feel weird but you were surprised to feel him grab your wrist and pull you back into him.
âNo i⊠I donât want you to stop, I justâŠâ
âMase itâs okayâ you told him, keeping your voice light so he didnât think you were upset. âWe can just go to sleep and forget about itâ
âNoâ he huffed, turning in your grasp so he could face you but there was an unreadable expression on his features. âIâm just a little nervous, like what would it mean?â
âIt doesnât have to mean anythingâ you reassured him, reaching out to stroke his cheek. âYouâre my friend Mase, I care about you a lot and I wanna make you feel goodâ you whispered. âSex is supposed to be fun and sometimes we just need a little reminder. Iâm happy to be the one to remind you if thatâs what you want. But if you donât want to, that's alright too. No pressureâ
âWell how am I supposed to say no to that?â he chuckled. Hands finally reaching for your waist and you let him stroke your skin lightly. âI just donât want you to feel like you have toâ
âThatâs not it at all, Mase. I want toâ you told him, reaching over to kiss his cheek lightly and you revelled in the way his eyes fluttered shut. âLay back for me?â
He did as you said, laying on his back as he looked at you with a tense expression but you knew just how to relax him. Curling into the side of his body so you could tuck your face into his neck and as soon as you felt him relax you started peppering kisses along his jaw and down his neck.
You started slow, now wanting to overwhelm him with lots of affection but you knew you were starting to drive him wild. Noticing his breath getting shallow with each kiss and when you discreetly nipped his collarbone he let out a hiss. The sound making butterflies erupt in your tummy and you knew you wanted to make him do it again.
Mason's arm that was around your body was gripping your waist tightly but there was something else you wanted him to hold so you took his wrist and moved it down so he could grip your bum instead. Feeling him give it a light squeeze and you hummed in satisfaction to let him know it was okay.
âCan I take this off please, mase?â you asked, fingers gripping the hem of his shirt in hopes you could access more of his skin and when he nodded in agreement you hoisted yourself up so you could straddle him. Pulling the fabric from his body and letting him lay back down before you decided what you wanted to do to him.
You knew Mason was a sucker for touch, no matter who he was with he'd have his hands on them in some way so you figured heâd like it to be reciprocated. And who wouldn't want to touch him? He was flawless in every way from the smattering of hair on his chest to the mole that sat on his abs that you wanted to kiss everytime you caught a glimpse of it.
You stared off trailing your fingertips over his body, your barely there touches effecting him immediately as his abs clenched and his breath got caught in his throat but the way he gripped your bum with both hands now let you knew he was loving it.
âIs this okay Mason?â
ây-yeahâ he stuttered, trying to keep his voice steady but you knew him and you knew he was feeling good. âThat feels really niceâ
âYeah?â you smiled, pride washing over you as you'd read him so well, but little did he know he hadn't seen anything yet. âYou just stay relaxed, okay? iâll make it worth your whileâ
You noticed it instantly, your words making him panic already as was clearly thinking about skipping to the end and whether he could get there but you just kept on touching him and relaxing him as best you could.
âJust relax for me Mase, thereâs no rush okay? Weâll take as long as we wantâ you murmured, feeling his hands move to the hem of your shirt now. Biting your lip as you pulled it over your head but little did he know you had nothing on underneath and the sight of your bare chest made him whimper.
âJesus Christ, y/n. Warn a guyâ he chuckled but you still gave him no warning when you covered his hands with your own so you could drag them up your body and cup your chest. Rocking your hips over his in hopes of riling him up a bit but to your surprise he was already rock hard under you.
âYou like that masey?â You teased, feeling him squeeze your warm skin as he dragged his bottom lip through his teeth
âFuckâ he whispered, eyes rolling back in his head before he moved his hands to wrap around your back. Pulling you forward so your bare chest was pressed up against his and the shy smile on his face made your heart thump. âIâve always wanted to know what you were hiding under thereâ he laughed, feeling shy as he looked right into your eyes. âI know weâre friends and everything but Iâve always been curiousâ
âWell I hope I didnât disappointâ
âNuh uhâ he smiled. The tips of his fingers running up and down your back just how youâd done to his chest and the realisation that he probably wanted to touch as well as be touched made you smile.
Without another word, you placed your lips back on his neck. Remembering the place heâd reacted to the most just before and you sucked on it lightly until he was bucking his hips.
Mason's body deserved to be worshipped and thatâs exactly what weâre about to do. Shuffling yourself over to straddle just one thigh now but it gave you a bit more movement to do what you needed to. Kissing every inch of his skin you could and finally making your way down to the mole on his tummy. Flicking your tongue over it before licking a stripe up his body to his nipple so you could give it a playful bite.
âYouâre a teaseâ he laughed, his hands threading through your hair at the sides so he could feel you but you carried on, giving the other side the same attention before trailing your kisses back down his body until you got to the waistband of his boxers. You kissed along the fabric before dipping your tongue just past the elastic waistband so you could lick a stripe across his skin again just under his belly button, but you could feel him tense before laughing and pulling you up to look at him. âIf the mission was to make me cum then you every nearly almost didâ
âSorryâ you chuckled, hiding your face in his neck but the quick squeeze he gave you let you know you had nothing to be sorry for.
âDonât be, whatever youâre doingâs obviously workingâ
âCan I take these off?â You asked, fingers running back running along the waistband of boxers again and you felt him nod but he stopped you as you sat up so he could look at you properly.
âYou can, but I want yours off too, yeah?â He told you, eyes flickering down to your bottom half that was currently covered by your jeans as you were only meant to be in here for a chat and you knew he was only asking so he wouldnât be the only one without anything on.
âOkayâ you whispered, rolling off the side of the bed so you could stand up and undress yourself first but Mason wasnât happy about this. Sitting up and reaching for you so he could pull you between his legs and unbutton them for you.
You should have realised he had ulterior motives but it was still a shock when you felt his mouth close over your nipple as he tugged your jeans down and you moaned louder than you intended to. Your fingers hiding in his hair so he couldnât move but there was no need as he seemed content on sucking and flicking your skin with his tongue until your knees were going weak and you had to pull him off.
âYou sound so pretty when you moan for meâ he whispered, kissing the space between your breasts before peppering them down your skin as far as he could.
âStop it, this is supposed to be about youâ you scolded, trying to bat his hands away but he just held you tighter.
âI know, and I wanna touch youâ he smirked. Giving your bum another gentle squeeze before finally pulling your underwear down to your ankles to join your jeans.
You thought it might be weird being completely naked in front of your best friend but he made you feel so at ease that you didnât bat an eyelid. Letting his eyes explore all the parts of you heâd never seen before you gripped his chin so heâd look into your eyes and you were surprised at how dark they were. He looked hungry for you and all you wanted was to give him what he needed.
âLay downâ you whispered. Head nodding back towards the pillows and you watched him shuffle back before you placed yourself back in between his legs so you could pull his underwear from him. The gentle thud of his length hitting his tummy was like music to your ears and you were glad to see the effect you were having on him.
You still didn't want to go in all guns blazing so you carried on pressing kisses to his skin. Your fingers scratching over his tummy and thighs before you finally gave him what he wanted. Licking a stripe up the length of him before taking what you could of him in your mouth. He was big and you needed a hand to tackle all of him but you got a steady rhythm going and you could feel his thigh muscles dancing under his skin as you moved your mouth over him.
Him telling you he wanted to touch you was still ringing in your ears and you could see him fisting the sheets next to you as your mouth worked on him so you grabbed one of them. Placing it in your hair so he could touch you in some way and you were pleased to find he didnât seem to want to alter your movements or force you to go faster. He just wanted to touch you and you moaned when he started to massage your scalp lightly.
âFuck, y/n. That feels so insaneâ he whimpered. The sound making your tummy flutter. âAlways knew that mouth would come in useful one dayâ
âFuck offâ you laughed after coming off of him with a pop but you knew he was only joking. Mason always described you as a chatterbox when you were with him, telling you he thought you saved up all your words for when you were next to him but you were only like that with him because you were comfortable enough with him to be yourself.
âSorryâ he chuckled, running his thumb under your lip to clean you up but you were ready to let him have it with both barrels now as some form of punishment so without a second thought you lowered yourself back down and took him back in your mouth. Making sure to stick your bum in the air more so he could get a good view of it and you could tell he liked it as he groaned even louder than before.
You could tell he was loving you slowing it all down, letting him feel every drag of your lips and flick of your tongue as he came apart underneath you until he couldnât take it anymore. Pulling you up and off of him so your faces were level but he could clearly see the confusion in your eyes.
âSorry, Iâm just really close and I donât wanna finish thereâ he told you sheepishly.
âWhere do you wanna finish Mase?â You asked seductively but he answered you with his eyes. Watching and they flashed down to your core and the fact he wanted to fully have you made your heart race. âOh, you want the full package then huh?â You laughed with a wink before he nodded.
âWell it is all about meâ he teased. Hands running up your arms before he gripped the back of your neck gently. âIs that okay?â
âYeahâ you whispered, attempting to move your legs so you could straddle him but the feeling of him pulling your face closer to his stopped you.
You hadnât wanted to kiss him, not because you didnât want to but because you thought it might have been too intimate for him. You were only friends at the end of the day and no matter how far this had gone or was going to go a proper kiss felt like it crossed some sort of line however Mason was now ready to plough right through it. Attaching his lips to yours in a soft kiss, wondering if heâd just got caught up in the moment before you realised that was more of a thank you than anything else and you kissed him back with a smile.
Still in a teasing mood you moved to sit over his lap. Not getting down to business just yet but you allowed yourself to feel him bare under you. Sliding up and down his length as his face contorted in pleasure and you knew you wanted to make him beg for you a little bit, half because you thought it might get him off but also for your own enjoyment.
âPlease, y/nâ he suddenly whimpered, the sound making your spine tingle in excitement.
âWhat is it, Mase?â
âPlease donât tease, I wanna be inside youâ
âAre you sure thatâs what you want?â You asked playfully, watching him nod at you frantically as he tried to lift your hips up but you wouldnât budge. âIs it what you deserve?â
âYes, f-fuck yes please. Please let me fuck you babyâ he whined, squeezing your waist as you felt your legs give way at how needy he was being but you knew you needed to put him out of his misery. Lifting your hips and lining him up with your entrance before you slowly sank down on him. Both sighing in what sounded life relief as you took all of him in.
âDo that feel good, Mase?â
âF-fuck yeah it doesâ
âIâm gonna take my time with you okay? I wanna feel every part of youâ you told him, resting your palms flat on his chest before rolling your hips once. His hands were squeezing your bum selfishly as he moaned into the air and the sound only made you want to bounce up and down on him faster.
âFuck Mase, thatâs itâ you whimpered, noticing your praise was getting him off as much as you actions so you carried on. Wanting to blow his mind in every conceivable way. âYouâre so good Maseâ
âFuckâ
âThatâs it, you feel so goodâ
The main aim of this whole thing was to remind Mason how to enjoy sex again and you could see just by looking down at him that he was having the time of his life. His bottom lip trapped between his teeth as his eyes rolled back in his head but it was the small smile that he couldn't hide that was filling you with pleasure the most. He wasnât thinking about anyone but himself and what he liked and felt good and all you wanted was for him to reach his high. Little did you know what with the mix of your mouth being on him and now being inside of you, he was closer than you thought.
âY/n, p-please I-IâŠâ
âWhat Masey, what do you needâ
âIt feels s-so good I c-canât hold itâ he stuttered, hands travelling up to hold your waist in order to try and move your body up and down on him even faster and the sudden change in pace had you clenching around him even tighter.
âDonât hold it then, yeah? I want you to cum for me Maseyâ you told him, looking down at him through your hazy eyes.
âBut you-â
âDonât worry about me or where I'm at, just cum for me. This is about you remember so just do what feels good and cumâ
That was all it took for him to let himself go, stuttering your name into the air as he reached his high and you looked down at him in awe. Mason was always attractive but seeing him right now, flushed and glowing after youâd just made him feel good made your heart flutter so you gently climbed off of him so you could lay next to his body. Letting him wrap you up in his embrace but you noticed he was hiding his face in your neck and no matter what you did he wouldnât look at you.
âMase?â You laughed, trying to push on his shoulder but he wasnât having any of it. âMase? What is it?â
âNothingâ he laughed, finally looking back at you and you could tell from his blushy cheeks that he was a little embarrassed and overwhelmed. âJust, thank youâ
âNo need to thank me, itâs what best friends doâ
âI donât think Dec would be too happy if I asked him to do the sameâ he chuckled and you laughed along with him before he got a little more serious again. âWas I okay?â
âIt wasnât about you being okay, Mase. It was about you enjoying sex again. Did you enjoy it?â
âI did, yeah. A lotâ he told you, fingers touching your cheek lightly and you smiled at how gentle he was bending with you. âBut I wanted you to enjoy it tooâ
âI didâ
âBut you didnât cumâ
âThatâs okayâ you smiled, trying to reassure him. âThat's not why we did thisâ
âWould you let me try though? I hate the thought of leaving you hangingâ
âMase-â
You were cut off when he pressed his lips to yours for the second time that night. Shock flooding you as this time he definitely wasnât caught up in the moment but you relaxed into the kiss and were surprised at how much you enjoyed it.
âPleaseâ he whispered, peppering kisses across your jaw to try and convince you, and as you were only human and accepted straight away. Nodding lightly as he rolled you onto your back ready to repay you for everything youâd done for him tonight.

Summer sunshine bathes the throne room in a golden glow yet does nothing to dispel the cold, unnerving energy that reverberates inside the stone walls. Red refractions from the stained glass sun at the window at the head of the room leak across the floor. You canât help but consider the stone flags are often streaked with that colour. That those who have paced the stone flags, their footsteps ringing out in the Great Hall, have given the order to paint the Seven Kingdoms that same crimson shade.Â
Standing before the steps, you consider the Iron Throne seated upon them, its bleak colours contrasting the warm hues in which the sunlight drowns the room. The Throne surprisingly does not live up to your expectations. You had heard so many stories, forged of a thousand surrendered swords at the conquest of Aegon The Conqueror. Now it stands before you; you can hazard a guess that there are less than two hundred.Â
Its symbolism is not lost on you. It had seated some of the evilest men, who had brought terror and despair across the Seven Kingdoms and its people. When you had arrived at Kingâs Landing and entered the Red Keep before the wedding, you had expected to see arguably the worst of them all, King Joffrey, stare back at you.
Now it was empty.
The crimson that daubs the floor in splotches reminds you of the events just hours before. Reminds you of the lifeblood that leaked from the young kingâs nose and slipped down his pale, blotched cheeks, dripping into the golden collar of his robes at his neck. Reminds you of the bloodshot colour of the whites of his blue eyes and the way they seemed to almost threaten to bulge out of his sockets. A gruesome death for a gruesome king.Â
You hoped that his motherâs screams, ex-queen regent Cercei Lannister, mirrored those of the countless he had killed in these halls so brutally. Hoped it would bring those dead some peace. That it please the Old Gods and the New so that the kingdom could find peace and crown a more considerate, less destructive sovereign.Â
The Great Hall was quiet. With no king to keep the Iron Throne warm, there was no requirement for anyone to be here. With this knowledge, you slowly make your way up the steps, the sound of your soles scuffing the stone floor ringing out in the vacant room. This close, you could regard the details. The ridges of the sword handles catch your eye, and the hilts of the weapons all ensigned with symbols that represented their owners long gone. While it didnât meet your expectations, it was undoubtedly a throne for a king.Â
You cast your eyes over the armrests, reaching out to touch them. They seemed so uncomforta-
âItâs underwhelming, is it not?âÂ
You snatch your hand back from the Throne with a gasp, like it had scalded you, eyes wide as your head whips around to look at the source of the sound.Â
Oberyn smirks, standing in the centre of the large floor before you. His warm energy radiates despite the distance between you, and the golden robes he wears provide some much-needed colour to your bleak, almost desolate surroundings. You had asked him to wear those patterns for the ceremony, confessing they reminded you of the sun-kissed beaches of home. Oberyn agreed, delighted to represent Dorne this way.Â
âYou startled me, my prince!â You exclaim, pressing your palm to your chest in an effort to steady yourself. Your Viper had always been stealthy.Â
âApologies, My Sun, but you were so lost in thought that I fear I would have startled you regardless,â he muses, slowly crossing the floor. He looks so at ease in these four walls, sauntering as though he owns them. In honesty, this is how Oberyn always acts, but he is expected to uphold respect in the Red Keep and appear humble. He certainly didnât seem to care much for that expectation now.Â
Despite this, he regards you with a whisper of concern.Â
âAre you well? What you saw back there⊠It wasnât pleasant,â he treads carefully, uncertain how you had handled the events of the wedding, given he had sent you away from the gruesome scene. But, much to your surprise, the only thing that you happened to find grim were Cerceiâs pitiful cries of âtake him!â You swore they still rang in your ears like the screams of squealing pigs.Â
ïżœïżœJust fine, my prince,â you promise him, dropping your hand to your side. You were fine, honestly. While you werenât often exposed to atrocities in Dorne, you had certainly seen your fair share of them. Choking to death paled in comparison.Â
Finally, he steps upwards, making his way slowly up the levels to stand before you. Youâre taller than him on the top step, so he cranes his neck to look into your eyes. There is a glimmer in the blackness of his pupils - vindication.Â
âAnd so the boy dies,â he says, voice quiet as he reaches for your waist. He slowly brushes his palm up the curve of your waist.Â
âHe was a Baratheon, Oberyn,â you remind him, watching how his eyes trace the neckline of your dress. A knowing smirk flickers across Oberynâs usually measured expression. He knows something you donât.Â
âSo they say,â he appears to pick his words carefully, despite your isolation. The walls of the Red Keep have ears, and unsavoury words often come back to haunt the utterer. âI fear his pedigree has come into question.â
A frown pulls at your eyebrows, searching Oberynâs guileful countenance for an answer to your unspoken query of âwhy?â
âYou saw how that wretched boy acted. Are you to tell me he isnât a Lannister?â He questions you, holding your gaze. His usually warm brown eyes have that very same intense look he aimed at Cercei and Tywin at the dinner. Abhorrence. How were you to deny what he saw, what you saw? Joffrey was a monster, the kind of cruelty he dealt only shared with one family- lionâs jaws would easily maul a stag. Regardless of whose blood had pumped his heart, he deserved every moment he suffered.Â
âWell,â you sigh softly, agreeing with your lover, âI suppose if the shoe were to fitâŠ.âÂ
âIt does,â he speaks, dismissing any question of the legitimacy of his opinion, âThis is a triumph.â You nod firmly, the two of you acquiescing unanimously to this fact. It was of no consequence who Joffrey truly was. The most imperative truth was that his death had devastated the Lannister family, precisely what Oberyn had set out to do. While he couldnât claim responsibility, it certainly didnât diminish his appreciation in seeing the panic amongst the blonde-headed savages - the infighting.Â
Oberynâs hand creeps from your waist and down the small of your back, taking hold of your ass and gently squeezing it. His eyes are hooded as you look down at him, irisâ hidden as he gazes down the neckline of your dress.Â
âThis could be your chance to become king,â you muse, smiling playfully as his eyes snap up to your face, disgust evident if only briefly.Â
âLive here in Kingâs Landing? As sovereign? I would rather be abstinent,â he muses with his own knowing smirk, ânot even your bewitching looks could implore me to rule the Seven Kingdoms.âÂ
You huff, acting disappointed as you cross your arms across your chest in apparent dismay. Oberyn simply arches an eyebrow, the edges of his lips lifting up in intrigue at your little display of audaciousness.
âWhat is it, My Sun?â He asks you, clearly amused. You purse your lips slightly, playing coy as you reach for the collar of his golden robes and brush your fingertips over the silk, moving them down slowly until you hook them into the leather belt that sits loosely on his waist. You tug harshly, catching him off-guard and forcing him to move up onto the top step beside you.Â
âOberyn, play the game with me. Weâre celebrating, remember?â You whisper, looking deep into his eyes. They always reminded you of the bark of the blood orange trees that grew in the orchards in Dorne, the wood a deep brown colour that lightened with flecks of gold in the light. His tan reminds you of the sunshine, his sigil, the very name he affectionately calls you. Everything about him reminds you of home.Â
He regards you for a moment, knowing exactly what you want. You want him to imagine what it would be like if he was king- just for a moment.Â
âAnything for you,â he murmurs, allowing you this happiness. You grin, launching into questions as you smooth your hands down his chest again, ignoring how his voice dips an octave. Â
âWhat would you wear, My King?â You ask, smiling wide as he places his large hands on your hips. His palms practically eclipse you, which always makes you feel safe, even in Kingâs Landing.Â
âI would wear golden silk,â he muses, turning you ever so slowly until he stands between you and the Iron Throne, his back to it. You watch him for a moment, the deviant look in his eyes, âI would wear velvet, and I would ensure you were to dress just as remarkably.âÂ
You allow yourself to imagine that for the two of you, always matching to ensure everyone knew you both belonged to each other.Â
âAnd what would you eat?â You ask him, finding yourself lost for words just seconds later when Oberyn takes the initiative to sit himself upon the Iron Throne. He sits back, legs spread wide, looking up at you. Your blood runs cold, and you glance around quickly for a Kingâs Guard. Thereâs still no one around.Â
âWhat would I eat?â He repeats your question, smirking as he retakes hold of your hips, âI would order that all the best foods of Dorne be delivered periodically, blood orange, pomegranates.â His palms work their way behind you as he talks, resting on your ass and pulling you forward.Â
âOberyn-âÂ
âWeâd gorge upon the finest venison, the boar from the woods and wash it down with our wine,â he continues, pulling you forward until you were forced to straddle his lap, bracing yourself with your hand against the âheadâ of the Throne, âWe would want for nothing, the finest food always available to me upon my requestâŠ.âÂ
Oberynâs hands pull your hips down gently, rolling your hips against his. Heâs stiff in his tight brown pants, his body disclosing his need for you.Â
âAnd I would eat you,â he ponders cheekily, a smirk crossing his lips as he sees your surprise at his readiness to take you here, in the Grand Hall, upon the Iron Throne. You have barely a moment to snap out of your shocked stupor before heâs working at shucking your skirts upwards, fingertips grazing the inside of your thighs.Â
Heat sparks up your spine at the realisation- he actually wants to do this. He wants to fuck you now, here. You spring into action almost immediately, working hastily on the belt that encompasses his waist.Â
âAs for activities, we would have magnificent feasts, drinking the night away. Weâd fuck-â he punctuates with a spank to the bare skin of your inner thigh, causing you to gasp, âinto the early mornings, with as many whores as you desireâŠ.â He trails off with a smirk as you slip the belt open and pull open his eggshell-coloured long coat, adorned with golden patterning to expose his bare chest under his low-cut tunic.Â
As you work on the ties of his pants, fingers trembling with anticipation, he slips a finger into your exposed core, causing your back to arch into his touch. Your jaw slackens, the sensation electrified when accompanied by the possibility that anyone could just walk in. The two of you could be put to death for this, as it certainly constituted a charge of treason.Â
âSo wet for me, My Sun. Does the prospect of fucking me here excite you?â He teases unrelentingly, gazing at the needy expression on your face. You can feel him search for that spot inside you, the one he knows will have you positively dripping with anticipation.Â
âI-Iâm the one asking questions,â you say, wanting to sound assured and confident, but you find yourself rushing the words so as to not get cut off by a moan. It made you sound ingenuine. Your lover just smirks knowingly, slowly working in a second finger. Youâre already so aroused that it doesnât take much effort.Â
âYou are?â He murmurs, watching the way you keen for his touch, feeling your hips rock forward in search of contact with that sweet spot inside of you. If Oberyn put his mind to it, he could make you cum in seconds, but he liked to draw it out. Wants to torture you with pleasure. âAsk away.â
You let out a soft moan as his knuckle brushed your clit, fingers buried deep inside your cunt. Drunk on the building pleasure between your thighs, you allow yourself to consider for a moment what kind of king Oberyn would be. With a broken train of thought, as he focused on building your arousal, you find a half-answer of âcompassionate and justâ.Â
âHow would you wish for your crown to look?â You finally find the strength to ask of him. You work him out of his pants slowly, easing his cock out and brushing the swollen head with your thumb. Even through your lustful haze, you could imagine all kinds of styles he would wear, but always gold.Â
Oberyn, though still moving his fingers, seemed to pause to contemplate this. His eyes searched your face, almost as though looking for inspiration. The silence of the Great Hall is cut only by your laboured breathing, the soft sounds of the fabric of your clothes rustling, and the wet sound of Oberyn pleasuring you.
The quiet is almost too much, and you find yourself growing anxious. Only as you turn your head over your shoulder to check for people does the Prince of Dorne take your chin in his free hand, forcing you to look back at him. He always did ask for your undivided attention.
âI ask they do not place a crown on my head,â he finally drawls in that pretty accent you had come to adore, removing his fingers from you and taking hold of the curve of your ass to lift your hips upwards and align you with him, âJust you on my cock.â
Before the words can settle into your bones, heâs sinking himself into you, using his hold on you to bring you down slowly. You both exhale shakily, the sound teetering on a moan and a whine as he stretches you out around him. He grits his teeth together, the muscles holding his jaw pulled tight as your warmth and tightness overwhelm him.Â
You begin to circle your hips, grinding them against him as he leans back into the Throne, gliding his hands from your knees and up your thighs, smirking at the obscenely wet sounds that come from where he fills you.Â
âLift your skirts,â he murmurs, gazing up at you with hooded eyes. They are practically black, the pupils having swallowed the brown of his irisâ with need, âI want to watch myself fuck you, My Sun.â You whine softly, not in complaint but in contentment, as you bunch your skirts around your waist higher, exposing the sight to your lover.Â
Oberyn doesnât allow you to put in all the work, grinding his hips upwards to meet yours each time you sink onto his cock. Your head lolls back, enjoying the trail of tingling skin he leaves as his hands brush over the skin of your waist under your dress. You always claimed that Oberyn had sunshine in his fingertips, his touch leaving a trail of warmth as it brushed your skin. You can feel it now, the gentle heat that swirls under your skin as he drags his hand over your abdomen.Â
And Oberyn just gazes up at you, dragging his eyes over every inch of you. He loves how your eyes roll back into your skull as he rolls his hips and hits something deep inside you that makes your toes curl. He feels the way the muscles in your thighs twitch at the sensation, and thatâs how he knows heâs found it.Â
âRight there?â He murmurs, voice so low and smoky that it creeps down your spine and settles deep inside your cunt. You canât manage words, your voice stolen by the throbbing in your clit, so you just nod in agreement.Â
Typically, he would begin to thrust harder, chase his high. But half of the reason this feels so good is the anticipation of being caught. He wants to drag it out as long as possible, so he uses the grip on your hips to slowly rock them back and forth on his cock, ensuring that each time he pushes into that spot inside you.Â
Youâre clamping down on him, wailing quietly as he teases you. Oberyn was brutal, never settling for anything other than blinding pleasure. But this is almost acute, so strong that you could cry- you do, tears welling in your eyes as he circles your hips slowly, his tongue brushing his lower lip as he watches his dick slide in and out of you.Â
The sopping sounds of Oberynâs cock continually slipping in and out of you ricochets off the ancient stone walls of the Red Keep. Your whines of bliss appear to spur him on, lighting something ablaze in him that had sparked with King Joffreyâs last breath. Heâs almost delirious when he speaks but utterly sincere.
âI want you to conceive a child - here on the Iron Throne. I want you full of my seed, knowing he was born for the Throne itself.â

The final chapter of MHA was bittersweet, hopeful, but with enough realism to remind us that life can still be mundane, underwhelming, painful. Honestly, this was a pleasant surprise to me as someone who saw this series as excessively optimistic at times. I wasn't expecting the epilogue chapters to go the way they did, and while I don't think the execution was perfect, I appreciate Hori for making the effort.
To get my complaints out of the way, I wish there had been more time for Deku and Bakugou to talk - about the apology, about Bakugou's death, about how their feelings about one another had evolved over the course of the series, or at the very least had more internal monologues. Deku in particular felt so...distant? Bakugou is my favorite character, so I'm probably the most hung up over him. He went through this incredibly traumatic experience, but we never see if and how this affected him (certainly, it had to have). At the same time, he's the type to keep his most personal thoughts and feelings private, he's also less about verbal expression and more about actions, so I can understand Hori's choice to an extent...but idk, that's where the internal monologue could have really helped.
Similarly, it's quintessential Bakugou (presumably) to secretly save the money for Deku's suit for such a long time. IMO that level of gift-giving plays right into his strengths and was an incredibly significant gesture given what we know about him as a character. Perhaps he doesn't have the words, but he can show, very clearly, to Deku that he can finally return the same admiration and deep affection that Deku always held for him. It isn't explicitly canon, but it's enough for me, it's more than I was expecting, actually.
Initially, Deku's ending made me sad. And I think it still does to some extent. He saved the world, and the world, for the most part, moved on. But that's reality. For many IRL helping professions, this is the routine - doctor's save lives, therapists successfully intervene in crises, the work day ends with lives irreversibly change, and then we wake up the next day to start it all over again. I've seen complaints that Deku lost his dream, didn't have a "becoming Hokage" type of moment, etc, but that was never why he was trying to be a hero in the first place. It's upsetting, of course, but he continues to help people despite the lack of quirk, the popularity, because he genuinely cares about humanity.
And in the end, we see that returned to him through those around him, we see his dreams return. He and his image of victory will get to compete together for the rest of their lives. I'll be 90 years old, and those panels of Bakugou reaching his hand out to Deku will exist somewhere, in a library, on someone's bookshelf or coffee table. And that's while it isn't perfect, it's an ending I can get behind.

Song Fic maybe???
Hii! I have a request for you, its a Bucky Barnes x avenger!reader idea with the song "Love Again" by Dua Lipa. Where maybe reader has been through some tough/ toxic relationships and swears off of romance once they joined the avengers but then when Bucky returns from Wakanda the reader begins to develope a crush on Bucky as he flirts with them after having a crush on her from the moment he met them. Maybe the reader thoughts align with the lyrics of the song and in the end the reader lets their heart open and starts dating Bucky after he knocks down all of thier walls :) (Also reader can be female or GN and I tried to give you some like guide but didn't want to restrict you!) Hope you have a good day :D
Ok first anon I love you sm for puttin me on this song it BANGS and I love this idea sm!!!
This is technically more like avengers assistant!reader because I suck at finding cohesive ways to fit an original character into the avengers team ((I have tried since I was 16 LMAO)) but hopefully it still works! Hope you enjoy!
Heavenâs Right Here, BabyÂ
Bucky x Avenger!Reader
Themes: Angst, comfort, fluff
Warnings:Angst; discussions of: war, PTSD, abusive relationships, trauma bonding, etc. (if you pick up on any Iâve missed pleeease let me know!!)
đ
I glance upward as I hear the rumble above, eyes squinting against the sunâs rays. For some unknown reason, Iâd been expecting some grand aircraft; a sleek jet or maybe one of the large helicarriers Iâd seen in the hangar back at the Avengersâ HQ when I first arrived. What I was met with was a rather modest plane Iâd estimate could fit ten passengers at best. It didnât really matter, I knew the man aboard couldnât care less about materialism or prestige. Still, he was one of our teamâs brightest and most respected members. It simply felt odd to receive him back via such underwhelming conditions.Â
Up until this point, Iâd only ever worked basic civilian jobs or the occasional temp gig. However after a particularly traumatic breakup, Iâd decided that being miserable and barely living above the poverty line wasnât cutting it anymore. It took a good few years and a considerable amount of ass kissing, but I eventually got offered a role as an assistant of sorts for Nick Fury in New York City.
Natasha was the first person Iâd found myself bonding with; the first night Iâd spent in the tower was a long one, and she had spent a large chunk of it comforting me by making me laugh with her Captain America impression. Funnily enough, Iâd meet Steve Rogers the next morning in the kitchen. He walked into the kitchen and shook my hand, exchanging names and pleasantries with me as the rest of the team filtered in. I watched anxiously as they all began to dig into the food; I couldnât pinpoint why, but I found myself desperate to impress each of my new coworkers.
Introductions were made, meals were finished, and I beamed at the compliments toward my cooking. To my surprise the conversations seemed to flow naturally. I couldnât help but linger on one man in particular, though. His metal arm gleamed brilliantly in the lighting of the spacious dining area. He was a man of few words. Bucky, they called him. The next month consisted of me making a fool of myself through several missions, distracted each time by that smolder and the tortured look behind his eyes. It was a look I knew all too well. Still, I didnât dare approach sergeant Barnes out of fear. Whether it be fear of authority or my lingering fear of men, I wasnât sure. Didnât make much difference; the less interactions, the better. The last thing I needed was to get in over my head during whatâs meant to be my fresh start.
Today was his return from the last stage of a program for training and rehab that began long before I came into the picture. From what I understood, it all began a few years back when the late King TâChalla harbored Bucky; partly as a favor to Steve, and partly out of respect for the sergeant. He saw James Buchanan Barnes beyond the outgrown hair and the guarded demeanor. He saw someone worth fighting to save. By the time Iâd arrived, his reserved nature had let up a bit. We both exhibit similar acts such as hypervigilance, but I suppose thatâll always remain in some small way. Weâre part of the team tasked with ensuring the safety of earth, after all.
I wave a hand to Bucky as he steps off the walkway, a bag slung over his shoulder. When he sees me and the team, he shoots us a small grin. It wasnât until he made it halfway across the asphalt that I registered the changes of his left arm. The once scuffed and faded titanium had been replaced with a new, higher quality gold and silver prosthetic.
âVibranium,â Bucky offers, having picked up on my stare. âShuri helped me.â
I felt a pang in my chest as he looked at it proudly. It was the same ache Iâd gotten every time Iâd bore witness to sergeant Barnes letting pieces of his real self shine through. I could try and lie to myself, but Iâm grown. I know what it means to have feelings for someone. As much as Iâd fought to stay neutral from the beginning, something about Bucky had always pulled at my heart. I would never let him know, but heâd melted some part of me that Iâd spent years freezing out. Still, Iâd vowed to keep to the professional relationship Iâve created with the former soldier. I couldnât risk letting something like random feelings of fondness jeopardize my job. I am here to help others and to run away from my demons, nothing more and nothing less.
-
âI never thought that I would find a way out, I never thought Iâd hear my heart beat so loud. I canât believe thereâs something left in my chest anymoreâ
-
Upon our entry to the tower, we were met by the quiet humming of music. Puzzled, we all made our way to the lounge area where we found Tony behind the bar in the corner. He raised a glass of amber-colored liquid in our direction as a greeting. âWelcome back, Barnes. Dig the new scrap pieces.â
Bucky rolled his eyes and pointed to the speakers built into the tall ceiling overhead. âThanks. Whatâs with the music?â Swinging around the bar to stand in front of us, Tony smirked.
âWhat? Canât we have a little homecoming celebration? We missed you, bud.â Before he could reply, Natasha interjected, grabbing Tonyâs free hand.
âIn that case, letâs dance. Youâve only got six months before your wedding and Pepper is gonna kill you if you step on her white heels.â
I watch in glee as Nat drags Tony away to the open space near the couch to practice his moves for the big day. Everyone branched off into pairs, leaving me standing at the bar with a can of soda while Bucky perched on the arm of the recliner. These little moments of joy made being alive less painful each day. I continued observing my teammates for a while before hearing someone clear their throat from beside me. âWanna dance, doll?â
The low timbre gave him away without so much as a sideways glance. It was sergeant Barnes. Asking me to dance. With him. Ignoring the cold sensation shooting through my veins, I threw him a smile and nodded. Offering me a hand, we make our way over to the spot where the others are swaying to the crooning of an early 1900s love song. With the way Bucky and Steve perked up as it came on, Iâd be willing to bet they were grooving to it back in the days of its first release. The thought warms my heart, and I risk placing my head on Buckyâs shoulder as we let the music guide us. Maybe trusting him for one dance wouldnât hurt. Maybe itâs okay to let my guard down just this once.
-
âI never knew I had it in me to dance anymore, but god damn, youâve got me in love again.â
-
Love. Thatâs what it was. I hated to admit it to myself, it scared me to the point of lost sleep and vomiting, quite frankly. But I couldnât bear pretending any more. Bucky had been back in New York for all of two weeks before we started being sent on missions together to gather intel on a potential threat. I didnât know the details, they only ever told me what was absolutely necessary to carry out a job. They explained it was so that if I were to be caught, I could play dumb as a simple civilian caught up in bigger matters on accident. You never know what tactics someone may have to pull the truth from you, but thereâs nothing to be extracted if I truly know nothing. However, at the current moment, I wished for little more than to be pulled from this room and dragged elsewhere. I tear my eyes from my debrief notes to stare back at the disheveled man sat across from me. I had yet to fully process what he asked.
âWhat?â His frown deepens, and I almost regret asking him to repeat himself.
âDo you think Iâm someone you could love?â
I was completely taken aback. Sure, the sergeant and I had some pretty deep conversations in the past. We werenât incredibly close before his return, both of us being highly traumatized and reserved people; but pair long missions with hours spent staring off into the night watching for movement and we had begun to fill the void. He relayed stories of war and torture, and I recounted memories of toxic relationships and a traumatic childhood. It only seemed natural that we eventually progressed into becoming each otherâs confidant over the last few months. When we accepted the latest task I expected us to exchange banter, maybe make up some new inside jokes. I didnât expect it to devolve into a raw and emotional conversation about our past hurts and shortcomings. Bucky had opened up about the women heâd met before the war, branching off into a story where heâd tried to make something work with a woman heâd met briefly in Romania before heâd had to go back on the run. I could see the pain in his expression, I could hear the slight waver in his voice as he tried making sense of where heâd gone wrong in life to deserve it all.
Then he looked up at me, those big grey-blue eyes shining with unshed tears, and he asked me the one question that I know will change everything. Is he someone I could love? When he asked, I realized I already know the answer. I already know I love him.
âYes.â He blinks at me, seemingly in shock, but I just continue. âI donât have to think about it, Buck. I love you because you are worthy of being loved. I love you because you are inherently lovable. I love how you care about people, I love how you fight fiercely to protect them. I love how intelligent you are, and how you never use that against others. I love how you make me feel safe. I love how youâve never given me a reason to question your motives like all the other men Iâve let into my life. I love you, and I didnât even think I could love again.â I dabbed my sleeve over the wetness pooling under my eyes, chuckling at my own intense reaction. Discussing my feelings was never easy, but it just came naturally with Bucky.
Two hands came up to hold my cheeks as Bucky looked at my face, perhaps studying me for any sign of deceit or sarcasm. I meant every word, though. He wrapped me up in a tight hug, and after he pulled back, I felt a sudden confidence. I leaned in and pressed a soft peck to his stubble-covered cheek, delighting in the light red tint that washed over his face.
âI love you too, doll. I didnât wanna scare you away, you mean the world to me. Just didnât imagine youâd feel the same. Not that Iâd blame you, with what youâve told me about the others I wouldnât blame ya if you never spoke to a man again.â Bucky laid a gentle kiss to the back of my hand that still rested in his. âHonored to be the one you trust.â
âNever have I ever met somebody like you, used to be afraid of love and what it might do. But god damn, youâve got me in love againâ
â!â
HELLO I REALLY HOPE THIS WAS WHAT YOU WANTED! Iâm sorry it took me so long to finish I kept branching off with different ideas before settling on one cohesive concept and hopefully I did a decent job following your prompt! Thank you sooo much for the request this was super fun to write and honestly kickstarted my productivity which has been in the shitter since like pre 2020 lmao bless you guys <333

alright i just read the comic where the wandering masters died? and it's so underwhelming? i Understand now why everyone thinks they didn't die because ye gods that was... hm. KNOL dying from an EXPLOSION?? FAY dying from GETTING IMPALED when she's The Healer... nico letting himself fall into lava to hold the ceiling up when fay is Right There... jon's death wasn't even shown like the rest there's just one panel of him falling into lava. uh, sorry for this mini-rant lol i had your tumblr open and didn't expect the comic to be like that. i hope you're having a good day đ
Yes exactly. This is why it lives in my brain like an unwelcome houseguest. You introduce four of the greatest Masters in the Jedi Order and they go out like that?? No. Something's hinky. It had to be an act and Obi-Wan was dumb and dramatic enough to fall for it.

chapter 162 thoughts!
Chapters Since The 143 Kiss Happened And Went Entirely Unacknowledged And Unaddressed Count: 19
Aqua Hoshigan Status: uh oh, gamers
damn they dragged his ass right to hell, huh
I was perhaps overly optimistic in expecting an immediate resolution to last chapter's setup. It's becoming increasingly clear that this handful of chapters covering the Aqua-Hikaru confrontation are intended to be read in one go but because I am pedantic I will continue to review them one by one <3 This chapter very much has all the same issues as the previous chapter without quite as many of the things I liked pulling it up, but Mengo's art is back to going absolutely crazy and I got to see 2.5 new panels of Hoshino Ai so who can say whether it was a good or bad chapter.
Like last time, we're starting with Hikaru again and⊠basically everything I said I didn't like about this handling of him is still the case but with this almost definitely being his final appearance with no more opportunities to explain anything about him, it really sucks that the note we seem to be ending on is just "damn, bitch be crazy". Given that Tsukuyomi mentioned his previously 'noble soul' last chapter, I was really hoping we might get some sort of flashback or Hikaru POV giving some proper context to his actions but all we got this chapter was him being like "ughh i miss ai. GOD i love killing people" which is, uh, underwhelming as a final note for an antagonist like Hikaru to go out on, to say the least
The thing is, I didn't need or expect Hikaru to be totes 100% an innocent bean or anything like that (ch109 looms large), but if he was going to be the final boss like this, I wanted his antagonism to come from somewhere, to have any kind of connecting thread with the story's themes or to at least tell us interesting things about him both in coming to understand where his behavior came from and why he went down this path. But we don't know anything about Hikaru, really - we know facts about his life but as person and a character in a story, our image of him is shockingly unclear. As far as the story seems to be concerned, he came into existence as an 11yo boy being abused by Airi, blipped out of reality when Ai broke up with him and then idk digivolved back into society into a guy from a yandere otome game when Ai died. Like, how in god's name did Hikaru go from the boy we see being broken up with as a teenager to⊠whatever the fuck this is? How did he start killing? Why? What is it about killing that makes him feel Ai's supposed presence? And most importantly - why does he pursue killing Ruby as his means of achieving this when the narrative is doing everything it can to convince us she's Ai 2.0 and therefore a living person in whom Hikaru should be able to feel Ai's presence the most strongly since her death? Hello? Can anyone hear me????
We don't get textual answers to any of that - hell, we don't even really have any textual confirmation that he is actually serial killer, despite it being something I guess we're supposed to assume at this point?? Like, whatever happened to Aqua seemingly crediting Yura's death to Nino's involvement? What happened to Aqua saying that Hikaru being the mastermind made no sense? Like, I guess he was right, but jesus
Even things I can take the time to try and infer (which, see last review's discussions on Inferring Things) just make me feel like I'm doing the work the story should have done in terms of trying to get his character to cohere. As it stands, Hikaru isn't in opposition to Aqua because he has harmful beliefs or behaviours born from his participation in society that stem from or are in conversation with the story's wider themes, but because he has one very specific unhinged belief totally disconnected from reality focused on one specific person and manifesting in such a way that caused him to just be Ontologically Evil And Broken.
And it's not like this would even be hard to do! Hikaru is literally, explicitly an affluent and powerful person in the entertainment industry despite being someone who was broken by abuse perpetuated by those very systems of power. Why not lean into that? Why not examine the ways in which Hikaru and Ai converged in their experiences of abuse - Ai able to truly sever the chain and begin healing while Hikaru ends up making Airi's mistakes and enacting abuse and control on people with less power than him to try and regain agency and dignity?
Ryosuke (even post retcon) and ch154 Hikaru work so well because their specific beliefs about Ai reflect real world misogyny and parasocialism that are rife in the entertainment industry (and even outside of it) so they're able to contribute to the story's wider themes pretty well. But as of this chapter, Hikaru's stated beliefs about killing and apparent overall worldview are so fucking detached from reality and so lacking any foundation or grounding in textual events or theming that it doesn't even feel like an exaggeration of real world issues to a logical conclusion like Ryosuke does. He just feels like a cartoon character.
Not only is this shallow in general and really a huge wet fart of an ending for a character who has been built up for 4 actual years and 150 chapters of manga, it's also just bizarrely inconsistent. There's no proper connecting thread in the text between the seemingly emotionally disarmed and remorseful Hikaru of 154-5 and fucking joker slenderman ass here. The story spent so long making Hikaru deeply and viscerally sympathetic through exploring his history of abuse and exploitation mirroring Ai's that I'm not sure of what the point of that was in terms of authorial intent if we were always gonna end at this point of "you are Ontologically Evil and must die". Movie Arc backstory Hikaru flows quite naturally into 153-5 Hikaru but these specific beliefs and fixations on killing almost feel like they popped up from nowhere to force this confrontation to happen.
Ultimately, despite being given ample opportunity to do so, it just kind of feels like Akasaka just kind of lost interest in trying to develop Hikaru into a fully fleshed out and coherent character. We get flashes and teases of what could have come together into a fascinating and compelling antagonist but he ultimately fails to evolve past a vague sketch of a character, full of unconnected ideas and loose threads. In the end, Hikaru is only ever a cipher for the story to enact tragedy through with no real interest in his own feelings and interiority in relation to it - not even his own.
To scooch back a bit into the chapter, I will say that him being dragged down specifically by Gorou is interesting, especially since he seems to have returned to his scary ass Tokyo Blade rage ghost form. This seems to represent Gorou and his rage being sort of 'exorcised' from Aqua now his revenge is complete (as I theorized might happen last week) - his memories and existence obviously live on in Aqua (F⊠FOR NOWâŠ..) but as a character in a narrative, this feels like a fine enough place to leave him.
Anyway, speaking of Aqua! How ya doing, champ?
that bad, huh
The back half of this chapter revolves around giving Aqua some emotional resolution of his own and even though I've been kicking and biting to get some Aqua introspection for so long now, this one left me feeling pretty cold. After all this time of floating around the 'why' of his reincarnation, the answer we're finally given isâŠ.. just that Aqua was reborn to be Ruby's guard dog lol.
The idea that the twins were specifically reborn to be together has been imo pretty obvious for a good long while and I think it's a perfectly fine idea on paper, but this framing of it just kind of falls flat to me. I don't like that it positions Aqua's rebirth not as a second chance for him to love and be loved in a way he wasn't able to as Gorou, a gift from Tsukuyomi to two people who showed her a selfless, thoughtless kindness but as just yet more of the story using other characters and their stories to try and prop up Ruby or imbue her with more importance in a way that I think feels forced and does the characters who are used in this manner a huge disservice. I'm sure we could conclude that this is just Aqua's feelings on the matter and I really, really hope that Tsukuyomi fishes him out and gives him a slap while yelling YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO LIVE FOR YOURSELF AND BE HAPPY IDIOT or something next chapter, but the extremely warm framing this is all given makes me think this is something the narrative both agrees with and approves of and as an Aqua enjoyer I just kind of hate that for him.
I also have to say that like⊠it doesn't not make sense for the story's finale and this aspect of the reincarnation plot to center Ruby specifically. She is one half of the titular Oshi no Kos and at least hypothetically the co-protagonist of the story. But suddenly making her the answer and central turning axis of basically the biggest ongoing mystery in the story like this feels kind of jarring when Akasaka spent a solid half of this entire manga not really doing her justice. This attempt to tug on our heartstrings via flashbacks to the twins' childhood also doesn't really do anything for me because as cute as it is, it's just disconnected flashbacks to brand new events in their childhood we never saw or heard about before. And it's weird because it's not like we don't have in-story examples of Aqua being over protective of Ruby, so why not flashback to those?
Idk. It's hard for me to articulate why this left me feeling kind of cold, but it feels like a symptom of this being part of an ending that Akasaka set in stone too early on and hasn't compromised for he way the character dynamics and story that made it onto paper have shifted and changed in ways that don't one hundred percent line up with the ending he wanted. If the twins' relationship was going to be this important to the ending and be so central to Aqua's existence as a character, I wish we'd spent more time on it. One of the major critiques of OnK that people had from like chapter 12 onwards that I still agree with is that Aqua and Ruby's relationship doesn't feel like a close knit connection between two people who grew up together for 1X+ years, and that continuing issue makes it kind of hard for me to feel the warm and fuzzy sibling feels right now. Which sucks because I LOVE the Hoshino family trio and I love Aqua and Ruby's family dynamic when we actually get to see it - their chapter of interlude and some of the scenes in their home in early OnK are some of my fave parts of the story for that exact reason. But this just kind of whiffed for me.
It also isn't lost on me that Ai is basically absent from these flashbacks despite them primarily taking part in the part of the twins' childhood they spent with her. I get that the idea was to focus specifically on Aqua and Ruby's dynamic there but it still feels kind ofâŠ
I've already written a short essay on this topic as it pertained to the initial reveal of Tsukuyomi's role in AQRB's reincarnation and the TL;DR of that post is that early in the series, Ai is centered as a character of as much significance to the reincarnation plot as Gorou/Aqua and Sarina/Ruby are, with the togetherness of the Hoshino family as a trio and Ai specifically as Aqua and Ruby's mother being emphasized as having a great deal of meaning and importance. But this chapter doubles down on essentially erasing her as a figure of weight and consequence in the twin's reincarnation in a way that is both inconsistent and just kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Like⊠I'm sorry, but given how much of Ai's character revolves around her being the victim of exploitation, of objectification, sexual and otherwise, of being forced to warp herself to response to the filthy desires thrust on her by the people around her, it's really just gross and a huge misstep for her to be reduced to a convenient walking uterus. It is yet another example of Ai being reduced to just a stepping stone in Ruby's narrative and part of a pattern in this regard I've come to really dislike. Framed like this, Ai's own act of bravery and love in giving not just herself but Sarina and Gorou the family all three of them were denied all their lives is now nothing more than a vessel for Sarina's wish fulfillment. As you can imagine, I kind of hate this too!!
Depending on if volume 16 follows 14 and 15's trend of being 11 chapters long instead of 10, vol16 will end on either 162 or 163 - based on how 162 ends, my guess is that this is our volume ender so I'm curious to see what form 163 will take - straightforward continuation of this scene or focus switch to other characters to maintain suspense? I guess we'll see in THREE FUCKING WEEKSâŠâŠ. Akasaka i swear to godâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ.
sidebar but tsukuyomi just out here floating is kind of wild. what happened to 'it's a normal child's body' ya little twerp?

đThe Fourth House in Astrologyđ
The source if this information is The Astrology Podcast (Chris Brennan) on Youtube and from the book The Twelve Houses: Exploring the Houses of the Horoscope by Howard Sasportas and I will add a personal example as well
4th house: home, family, soul, origin, roots, ancestry, lineage, genes, inner self, heritage, inherited trauma and/or wisdom/values, comfort, the mother, the womb, parents, nurture, private life, conditioning, foundation, support or lack of support, shelter, childhood, early environment, the past, emotion, angular
Relationship with parental figures or those responsible for the individual early on, values instilled in the home, lessons passed down from parental figures to the child, themes most present during childhood, leniency or sterness in matters related to discipline, traits of the child, interets/favorite topics early on or that bring a feeling of home and comfort in the present, how one would be/act as a parent (replicating parenting style or breaking the cycle if needed)
Personal example: Aquarius in the 4th house and Uranus in Pisces 4th house
I believe I already mentioned how I didn't know I had siblings until I was 13 in my last post? đ
I would say that is very Uranus energy and there were a lot of instances like this where shocking things would be revealed to me in the most casual ways with underwhelming energy
Very turbulent environment you really would not know what to expect and my Aries moon kind of added a danger element to it
Uranus is square my sun and this manifested for me in... the approach taken in raising me totally contradicting everything I stand for including the values that were instilled in me since they were not very ideal to be fair
Uranus is also trine both my Venus and Mars and I definitely see this as my past, as "annoying" as it was, kind of pushed me to take action to establish my own independance as well as prioritize my own comfort and appreciate myself as well so it does not justify in any way what happened but for me PERSONALLY it did play a huge role in shaping who I am as a person and my resilience as well which is a very Scorpionic thing and especially not being afraid of facing it all head on (for reference I have Venus and Mars in Scorpio in the 12th house)
My Uranus is also opposite my MC and sextile my north node however I will not analyze those right now
As for favorite topics I love kpop and astrology and these two interests definitely make me seem like an eccentric person to others (Aquarius) since I have been raised and do still currently live in a religious country
I think I would have a very progressive approach to parenting and handling matters of the home and again for me this is relative to my childhood environment so instead of me for example taking on a certain role since I am a woman I would handle things based on my strengths and weaknesses as well as my future partner's strong and weak points as well
I hope this was not too heavy đ
I usually do personal examples for these so I wanted to stay consistent but I tried to not go into detail but yeah you get the idea
Comment down below your 4th house sign, planets and aspects
Thank you for reading <3

Kaji Fes.2023 Day 2 FULL Video
»»ââ  CLICK ME đ CLICK ME ââ««
âFOR PERSONAL USE ONLYâ âCREDIT me if you SHARE on other sitesâ
Yes, finally we have a recording of Day 2. Even though I was there for Day 2 back in December, I was still excited to experience the whole thing again. Unfortunately, I never got to write my report so I guess I will use the opportunity to share some of my memories and current thoughts.
Here goes nothingâ(âąË_Ëâą)ââ
street corner: Looks like they cut this. I am surprised because they had a much longer slot for Day 2 (3 hours instead of just 2) so I was sure they would be able to squeeze all of it into the broadcast but apparently not. Oh well, can't say I am said about that because being confronted with the accordion right from the get-go at the live really didn't leave a good impression on me. I had pretty high expectations for the whole thing and this intro left me more than underwhelmed. Thank God we transitioned right to "ćžæăźć
".
ćžæăźć
: Now THIS is the intro I was hoping for. What a gorgeous melody! I wasn't familiar with the track but my God, I got goosebumps all over. I literally felt this in my entire body. The gradual build-up to a more grand-scale symphonic arrangement towards the end really impressed me. I am just obsessed with the uilleann pipes and the Celtic sound. I honestly struggle to get beyond this because I keep rewinding the video.
prelude to Act 1: The look on my face when I heard those first few notes. I was shooketh to say the least. I most definitely did not expect them to do the Kalafina block this early in the live but I knew that if they were doing the Madoka instrumentals, the most logical thing would be to transition straight into a Kalafina track. While I have never watched the anime, these are melodies I hold very dear to my heart so I loved this. It was also a great pleasure to hear Eri Ito live for the first time. I will never get enough of Yuki's more classically trained vocalists. it's such a pleasure to listen to them.
Numquam vincar: After "prelude to Act 1" this was no surprise at all but damn, I am so glad they played this. I've never actually had the chance to experience this track live even though they obviously performed it numerous times during Kalafina live intermissions. What a pleasure to be there and truly feel the epicness of that intro. Once more I was covered in goosebumps.
Magia [quattro]: At this point I knew it was coming but it was still a shock to my system. Like I said earlier, I was sure that they would wait until the very end to do the Kalafina block (that's what they had done for earlier lives) so I thought I had some time to prepare myself and get into the groove so to speak. My body certainly wasn't ready so maybe that's why my brain couldn't properly compute the whole thing. I remember not being as hyped as I expected to be and that made me kinda sad. I am so grateful that we are getting this recording and a blu-ray release because I feel like I couldn't fully appreciate the performance while I was there. Getting to see it again is a real treat and I must say, I like this much more than the previous FJ "covers" we have gotten of this song. Hikaru and Keiko sound so perfectly in tune and I just love their powerful delivery. For the most part, I don't mind the higher harmonies provided by Yuriko and Joelle. Although during some parts (e.g. mayowazu ni yukeru nara), I feel like Joelle and Keiko don't harmonise very well together but whatever, it doesn't bother me too much. On a random side note, I wasted way too much time wondering about why I thought that Keiko's arms looked kinda naked until I finally realised that the puffy sleeve pieces of her outfit were missing.
storia: I did not expect this to make it onto the setlist but I am a big fan of the song so I was happy when I heard the first notes. Overall, I think I like this version well enough although I will admit that my favourite part has always been the chorus with Keiko and Wakana so it is a bit jarring to hear Joelle for these parts. Don't get me wrong, Joelle sounds great and I feel like the harmony between her and Keiko works better here than during "Magia" but still, it can't quite touch my heart. I mean, just thinking of all the Kalafina performances where Wakana and Keiko gaze lovingly into each other's eyes while they sing the "yasashii uta..." line makes me tear up. Nothing will ever be able to replace that for me. A few days later I attended Wakana's concert where she also performed "storia". This may sound ridiculous but hearing those performances more or less back to back almost felt as if the three of them had been reunited. Even though this might have been a coincidence, just the idea of this little connection had me in tears.
ćăźéăźćș: Oh, another cut song. Thank God we are getting the Blu-Ray. I will be honest with you though, I am quite sad that they chose two Kalafina songs that I don't particularly like. I couldn't get as excited as I wanted to be. I think I had no complaints about this performance, enjoyed everyone's vocals and didn't really notice Wakana's absence. But I guess that's because I wasn't a big fan of the song to begin with :P
to the beginning: It will forever be a mystery to me why this is such a fan favourite but oh well, let's not linger on that. In some way, it's almost a blessing in disguise for me to not have such a strong emotional connection to these songs because it helps me appreciate the new versions a lot more. No matter how skilled of a singer Joelle might be, if I am invested in a performance with a prominent Wakana part, there is no way anyone will ever live up to that. It's 100% a me problem, I realise that but I doubt I will ever be able change that way of thinking. Anyways, this was a perfectly fine rendition.
æ”·ăšçç : Don't think I've ever heard a JUNNA song. Not a huge fan of her voice, it's just too generic for me. But there's something about this song that I like, especially that those hey-hey woah parts. The chorus is decent too. It's not a track I would skip but also not something I would actively seek out.
ć€ȘéœăźèȘè·Ż: Not my cup of tea. I can tell that there is a nice melody hidden in the chorus but it's a bit too fast-paced for me.
time to sail!: Yet another cut. I loved this. Was already familiar with it from a previous recording so I really appreciated getting to hear t live. It's somewhat of a very epic and grand-scale version of "Umi to Shinju" which I am only realising now XD
The main theme of âL.O.R.Dâ: Can't tell you how very much I am in love with this song. The first time I got to experience this live was in Taiwan back in 2019. The song is so fucking good, I will never get tired of it. I was utterly blown away by Joelle's vocal prowess. I know it always sounds like I am low-key bullying her but that's really not my attention. I am just forever too hung-up on Wakana to ever be able to accept anyone else taking up my favourite parts of her.
I talk to the rain: Can't wait to hear this again on the Blu-ray.
a song of storm and fire: In my report for Day 1 I did talk about tis and "salva nos" being my first introduction to Yuki Kajiura's music. I feel so privileged to have finally been there for a live performance. Needless to say, it was everything that I could have asked for. Watching the recording now doesn't even do it justice. It was so much more powerful at the venue.
ring your song: This always brings tears to my eyes. The melody is just so beautiful and when they all join in, it's literal perfection.
ăăšăźă»ăăăăăă: God dammit, I really want to like this song because in theory it should be right up my alley. I mean, the instrumental intro is to die for, it's so promising but then it's just all over the place and I can't get into it T_T
ć€ć
ćĄæ: Not a huge fan of ASCA unfortunately and I do not care for the song either.
éČé: Surprisingly fond of this. Very nice melody. Can see myself listening to it on a regular basis.
ćăèŠă怹ăźç©èȘ: Not much to say about this except that I enjoyed Keiko's lower harmonies. It's not a bad song per se so I probably would have liked it more if it didn't have ASCA on main.
everlasting song: This is always fun although I do enjoy the version without FJ ASUKA more. I know that sounds horrible considering it's literally her song but I will never be a fan of Yuki's vocalists with a more generic voices. Wakana's "kimi no me ni..." will forever be my favourite!!
äžçăźæăŠ: No thoughts really.
ćȘăăć€æă: Joelle is a much better fit for this See-Saw song than Yuuka. Very enjoyable.
ćăăăç©èȘ: A favourite of mine. Do I prefer the version with Wakana? Of course! Do I have fun with this version too? Mostly yeah! Kaori's always work for me here but I can tolerate it.
Rainbow~Main Theme~: This was a nice treat. Very fond of KOKIA as a vocalist and this is just a super beautiful song. Have always liked it.
éąšăăćčă: Not as smitten with this new KOKIA song but it's nice enough. I certainly wouldn't skip it
lotus: Wow, two Hanae cuts! How rude!!
inverse operation:
çźèŠă: I do love the Wakana versions but I also enjoy versions with other main vocalists. And of course, Hanae does an amazing job.
ć€éăźăă: I know this didn't leave a good impression on me when I first heard it and I can't say I feel much different about it now.
èéæ”è»ą: This upcoming FJ Yuuka corner didn't do anything for me, it was the point where I started to get really tired and distracted. It was a struggle to still pay attention even though these were all more up-beat songs.
Silly-Go-Round: Nope.
cazador del amor: Meh.
nowhere: The only song I actually enjoyed from this corner. ASCA thankfully used a voice that I didn't find too grating (which can't be said about rito, JUNNA and Lino). Almost wish I had stood up for this performance and the next because Keiko was spending a lot of time on the left side of the stage (I had an arena seat pretty close to the stage on the left) but I probably wouldn't have had a good view of Keiko anyway so I preferred to just watch the screen. And to be honest, I am not the type of person to stand up and do some weird moves anyway so it was probably for the best. No need to embarrass myself in front of people who actually know how to move their body.
zodiacal sign: I mean, when is this ever not an absolute pleasure?
into the world: I was hoping to see Hikaru again since almost all the other guest vocalists had had a second appearance and yay, she came back on stage for the final song before the encore! "into the world" was such a perfect ending. I definitely got choked up, especially towards the climax of the song when Keiko was really putting all of herself into it.
red rose: Not my favourite but a good track for all the musicians to shine again.
Parade: It's my favourite song from the album and a fitting ending for this behemoth of a concert. At this point, everyone was close to tears after Yuki's little speech so that made it so much more moving. Love, love, love!! Right after they all take a bow and everyone is leaving the stage, I am glad they zoomed in a bit on Keiko who was wiping away some tears and leaning on Hikaru. That moment killed me at the live.

Jolieâs thoughts on
Shoscombe Old Place (Sherlock & Co. podcast)
Good call shifting the environment away from the way too similar horse racing scenario of Silver Blaze.
Thank you also, Joel, for letting our boys go on a holiday. Itâs not what I imagined when I said I wanted Consequences after Dancing Men, but it works! And I find it telling that Sherlock especially seems to have offered no resistance to the plan. Seriously, S & J camping by the river (and Sherlock going fishing, because of course he would!) for real and not just as a blind (like in ACDâs story) filled me with happiness and serenity.
I was not prepared at all to learn so much about John's childhood and family circumstances. "Made and then broken in the Army and subsequently fixed at 221B Baker Street", yes, that is the John Watson that we know and love in any universe. đ
I'm so glad he still has a refuge in his old town now, and I love that Sherlock gets invited totally as a matter of course. I so heard him on the "weird feeling when a place you used to call home doesnât feel like home anymore", too.
I'm also left wondering a LOT whether Johnâs canonical unhappy alcoholic brother (also Henry/Harry, like the father?) from Sign of Four exists in this universe. If yes, there should be traces of him in the old family home for Sherlock to deduce⊠Unless of course heâs a half brother or something who never lived there (from John's dad's earlier marriage or relationship, possibly?). Or maybe the traces are there and Sherlock just never said a thing, and only will laterâŠ
I also wasn't expecting John to run into his famous so-far-nameless ex! I found myself hoping that they wouldnât go down the tropey route of the Crazy Evil Ex. When John called Carrie "evil" when they were trapped in the crypt, that really didnât seem accurate. But John was being so realistically cranky about everything to do with Carrie, I really felt for him.
Sherlock was being such a sweetie throughout, especially at the start. Doing small talk with the neighbour, NOT pointing out that John rambles exactly as bad as his mum sometimes, not wanting him to have to call his ex in person, repeating over and over that theyâre in a beautiful place with good beer and heâs really enjoying himself⊠Calling John invaluable⊠Feeling a little bad about recklessly leading them both into danger in Dancing Men, perhaps (not that John didnât follow willingly and without question)? Or just being happy that he and John are still alive and still around and evidently didnât fall out over the Dancing Men business, either?
"I'm a big boy. I can do it." - "Would you like me to call her?" - "Yes, please." - "Whatâs wrong?" - "Poor signal in this village." - "Iâm blocked, arenât I." My heart đ„č How I love a protective Sherlock.
And our boys getting philosophical in ancient sacred buildings at night is almost a tradition by now. I love it when they do that. The River Thames analogy was so intriguing, too. Who would have thought that Sherlock could be such a poet?
"A sea? A lake? A waterfall?" [10 seconds later] "Shoutout to Professor James Moriarty, who is listening intently to every word." AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! đ±đ±đ± That was the creepiest moment ever and John was so right to lose his shit.
How close are we to Reichenbach? We might be there by August. Or Joel might be pulling all our legs.
Whatever it may be, donât deny yourself the pleasure of looking at this absolutely beautiful art by @paperleef !
Oh and then of course there was a case as well, but it hardly seemed to matter for most of the story. No surprises there for the connoisseurs of ACDâs original stories, either.
Iâm glad that they did not go down the Crazy Evil Ex route with Carrie after all. I was a little narratively underwhelmed by how Johnâs dynamic with Carrie and its potential for conflict just fizzled out. But thumbs up for realism there. Theyâve both moved on and thatâs it. Like so often in RL. And didnât we all love the fact that John now considers Baker Street his home, Sherlock & Mariana his family and the Sh & Co project his future.
I also didnât expect Part 3 to turn into an anti-classism manifesto, but it does make sense, especially seeing how the matter bugs John all the time, too. Check out this great meta by @comicgeekery on the matter!
I would also like to contest Mr Emoryâs ideas about the founding date of the Adidas shoe brand, but thatâs just a tiny detail.
Sherlock: "John Hamish Watson!" - John: "Donât Hamish me!" đ - Wasnât aware thatâs a verb, but apparently it is!
The car chase scene/river rescue scene was so good I literally forgot this was just audio. Also, Sherlock and John diving in a lake together to get Robert out was just⊠so touching. And so cool. (I think Iâm mostly in love with how Sherlock switched immediately from "Watson, get out of there" to "OK, Iâm going right in there with you".) And did you all notice we got another "John"? Itâs still being saved for special moments. đ„°
Dear Joe, nobody who dies on duty on a peacekeeping mission gets a cheap place in heaven in my opinion. But then, if Harry Watson was anywhere as modest and laid-back as his son is, and something tells me that he must have been, he probably took a cheap place on purpose, not to be a pain, and when an angel came up and wanted to guide him closer to the hero places, he was just, "nah, mate, I'm good here".
Also, Sherlock packing their things before the case was even wrapped up, to make sure John would find it easier to go back home to London, rather than lingering and questioning his life choices, was so sweet again.
"Youâre stressed, any youâre lashing out at those you love (!). Youâre losing your mind. You spoke to a river!" - "And you put a dog in a bag!" - Possibly one of my favourite ever closing scenes of this show. (Treat yourselves to this lovely observation by @itsnobodysproblem , please!)

i'm not necessarily a hater but i would still love to hear your thoughts on the httyd live action trailer
first of all, thank you so much for asking but i must warn you that i'm not going to shut up about it now.
i've given this a lot of thought and i think i might've gone a little bit overboard (sorry not sorry). so, behold;
my (probably unfinished) list of reasons as to why iâm sure the httyd live action is going to be shit
i really donât think thereâs another way to start this list: characterization. we can all agree that (as far as weâve seen), they didnât get anyone right. starting off with hiccup, and with all due respect to mason thames, that is NOT how he was supposed to look. hiccup was an outcast, a runt, a late developer, a ânuisanceâ, if you will. he is depicted as this scrawny looking child that wasnât even able to hold an axe properly and that would never, ever become what a viking should be. and he isnât any of that in the remake. he isnât meant to be hiccup, and itâs painfully obvious. stoick is worth a mention, because i didnât expect to be this underwhelmed with his character when i knew that gerard butler was going to play him, but here we are. i understand the decision to cast him as stoick, no one else could ever live up to the standard of that role, but i canât see stoick when i look at him. for the rest, i canât say much, since i havenât seen how they decided to characterize them, but something i can say is that the people out there being racist towards nico parker should just keep their mouths shut.Â
the way they designed toothless honestly just makes me mad. iâve seen a lot of people complaining about this same issue, and i wish i could use all of their points and arguments, to be honest. i just have one thing to say. what did they do to my boy?? he looks so unbelievably bad. as far as iâve seen, his proportions are weird, his wings look like theyâre made out of leather and he doesnât have any of his markings, scars, nothing. every detail that added depth to his design is gone. i saw someone say that he looks like that horrible pez dispenser and now i can only think of that. to me, he just looks like a toad. the rest of the dragons arenât much better, either. they are recognizable, yeah, but the second they appear on the trailer doesnât say much. pretty sure they are going to be as underwhelming as toothless.Â
(this is what i was talking about)
another thing that iâm sure is going to happen is that theyâre going to depict the scenes so miserably. the downed dragon scene?? like?????? it was one of the deepest, most telling (and for me) nerve-wracking scenes in the whole movie. i remember watching it when i was little (and not so little), seated at the end of my seat, leaning towards the screen in complete awe. the music, lighting, atmosphere⊠i got goosebumps every time i saw how the camera moved from toothless lying body, how it passed over his wing and stopped right above his open eye. iâm feeling those same chills just thinking about it. and in the trailer and the leaks, it just looks like a national geographic documentary. it feels nothing like the original, and i know that being a copy of the original isnât its point but like. try a little harder. (i donât even want to think about how test flight or forbidden friendship are going to be, but iâm scared)
the movie itself just looks bland. the backgrounds look straight out from a walmart commercial, costumes look tacky, and it just doesnât look like berk. to me, it seems like they tried to create some kind of cartoony atmosphere?? it obviously didnât work, and thatâs what i guess makes the movie look cheap. like itâs some low cost rip-off. and given the budget they had, i hoped we would get berk in all of its glory. they failed in capturing that feeling that the animated trilogy has, that comfort and warmth that almost wants to make you jump into the screen to live amongst dragons. and iâm so bummed because of that.Â
this is one of my BIGGEST issues with this movie. because itâs not like we wanted the movie in the first place. iâm sick and tired of hollywood, dreamworks, whoeverâs been involved in this monstrosity, thinking that what we want is another shitty cgi live action. iâm sick and tired of animation not being treated as a serious form of portraying media, because it is!! we have so many examples of good animation, with touching stories and fantastic writing in the past years!! arcane, the spiderverse movies, nimona⊠and i could keep going! animation should be boosted instead of pushed under a bunch of live actions no one asked for!!!! and iâm so mad about this!!!
and the final, and i think most important issue with this movie is that httyd DIDNâT need a live action. yes, i know that the ending they chose for the films isnât the best, yes i know it isnât the best piece of media there is (at least for the people that arenât fans), but it was enough! the characters were well written, the storyline was moving, the scenes, music, writing⊠i still remember when i was four, 2010, and my dad took me to the cinema to watch it for the first time. i remember leaving that movie theater with my mind completely blown away. and that feeling of⊠love and nostalgia has only grown over the years. which is why iâm so mad about all of this. i didnât want the live action. i donât want one of my favorite pieces of media to be turned into this cash grab nonsense. i donât want it to be ruined.Â
so, yeah. i think thatâs about it. i apologize again because this is like super long, but i had to get it out of my system. and tsym for asking <333

Okay okay I'm done with the Met Gala posting for now.
I'm so proud of them. They looked amazing as always, truly, but I did find myself a tad... underwhelmed with their looks?
They truly looked beautiful. I favor Felix's outfit. The white and the floral print is just stunning and is 100% following the dress code, but I would've loved to see the rest of the boys in something similar.
Again, they looked divine, but I guess since it's the Met, I expected a certain wow factor. It's their first Met, and they did come kinda as brand ambassadors for Tommy Hilfiger, so maybe next year we'll see more with a different brand.
I wanna find more detailed pictures of their outfits, and I wanna see some commentary from some sites later or tomorrow. Overall, I hope that they have the time of their lives and savor every moment of this!

Just a few quick thoughts on TMAGP
Magnus Protocol is easily the podcast I've been most excited for, and it DOES mostly deliver, making me feel vindicated in my excitement. I look forward to each new episode in a way I rarely do with any ongoing series, be it a podcast or something, and that is really nice. That being said...
I do have a few grievances with it as a whole, honestly. The statements are probably the elephant in the room - I feel like we haven't gotten a single properly scary statement such as the ones from early-to-mid TMA. Not only that, but most statements don't get nearly as intricate and complex as the TMA ones - the ones in TMAGP very much feel just like reports of isolated odd incidents, while TMA felt more like an actual horror anthology where the individual stories eventually start coming together into a coherent larger framework. I think I wouldn't mind either of these things separately, but as things currently stand, I do feel like there hasn't really been anything as memorable as the statements from early TMA yet. I *do* like Bonzo and I also thought the scary movie episode was fun, but... I dunno. I can't help but feel like the statements lack bite overall.
I do actually like the bigger focus on the main cast and their interactions with TMAGP's world, though. I suppose that the weaker statements are partly due to the fact we're getting more screentime for everything else.
I've also been feeling a bit underwhelmed by the post-hiatus episodes' contents - pre-hiatus TMAGP absolutely had a lot of bombshells per episode, so it's quite weird following that up with several episodes where barely anything happens. I do feel like we're kind of waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it's still odd. Maybe I'm just a cranky bitch who doesn't care terribly much about Sam's romantic troubles, who knows? Wish the episodes were juuust a bit longer, honestly.
I think it's very very funny how you can simply tell I'm writing this moments after finishing episode 14 - it really does feel like the current culmination of my issues with the podcast.
All of this in mind, though, I do have to say that I'm still very much hooked and am not likely to fall off anytime soon. The production is insane, the creepy old computer aesthetic rules, and I'm VERY curious to see how this new setting differs from TMA's and what they could even do with a story like this which they didn't already do in TMA. Protocol has so so much promise and I really hope it won't only live up to it, but exceed it. Erm. What else can I say. Alice is endearingly annoying and I like her a lot more than I expected. Gwen is my oomfie. Colin may have not appeared at all within the past few episodes but that is because he is currently very busy with being my boyfriend. Gootbye.
