Beautiful and necessary reflection. Sometimes, creating comes with discoveries, and when we embrace creativity and its creation, there are no rules, no norms. I work with creativity, and it took me 37 years to understand that I am creative and that my creativity is always with me. It is my work, and I am passionate about it. I love, I love being creative; it is part of me, it defines who I am. It means knowing that any task, any goal, any decision I make, I will approach in the most unique, unexpected, and almost impossible way to prove that the impossible does not exist.

Creativity is something delightful, like playing with time and letting yourself go. I feel sorry for adults who have killed their creativity, but I am not here to talk about them. I am here to talk about myself. I am here to explain and tell you that being creative has no set time, no set day, no specific moment. People think and believe, in a society shaped to make them believe, that creativity has a schedule, deadlines, values, or lack thereof, making them believe that creativity lives in a box you must open, use, and close.

Teach us that creativity, like fine wine, is a connection with something far beyond, spiritual, religious, or even otherworldly. And like wine, creativity gets better as it ages. Creativity is God's touch with you; it is His hand, His finger, the smallest atom of Him, and then you bring it to life. We are tasked with bringing this to life, and it took me years—crying, fighting, battling with myself—to understand my creativity. Today, I embrace it and want to live more through it because I believe that being creative is living through creativity, not just having moments of it.

Do you live creatively, or do you play it safe? The path to enlightenment is one that not many will take, because it requires courage, faith, creativity, inspiration. You might look foolish. You will most likely have to do things differently than your neighbor. You will be required to use intuition and free will in harmony with each other.

 

But the payoff is awe-inspiring. You will know who you truly are, deep down, at your core. You will experience things that few others have managed. Your understanding and experience of beauty and love and Spirit will know no bounds.

Try living creatively for a day. Listen to your heart and ignore your negative ego when it tells you that you can’t or gives you messages of fear. Take some risks, do something new, or do an old thing in a new way. Stretch a little. Do things as if no one were watching you. Speak your Truth. Make decisions that are interesting but generally out of character with how you usually are, just to see what that feels like.

Pay attention to how you feel at the end of the day.

I took a workshop that broke my spirit 🥺 It was actually a watercolor workshop that reversed all my progress and made me question my value as an artist… . …almost two years ago now. I don’t know how to put it into words, but after the workshop, I never even finished my class painting. I had to endure a grueling process of coming back from the ashes… it was just a really raw and rough experience that revealed my weaknesses. Anyway, I eventually decided to try again with another workshop, a French patio scene by @lanaprivitera. . I learned not all workshops are the equal! After feeling joy and success this time, I took tons of workshops + seminars in good faith that at least most of them would benefit me in some way. And I grew so much… it’s something I’m really thankful for, NOW… . Also, i think the big takeaway was the importance of simplifying a reference photo, of painting each section wet in wet, and to convey realism through tonal values. Probably the best lesson I could have learned thus far… . …I’m curious, have you taken a workshop or seminar that transformed your art journey? I’d love to hear about your favorite or least favorite experience and how you came out of the workshops.
