I'm ngl, everytime I see like hate towards Taz over this it's like there's a new thing to be like upset about because the behaviour is just so bad that it really doesn't feel like good faith arguments.
I'll also be upfront, I'm very arab and am a quarter Palestinian so it's not like I don't have any say in this, even if thankfully my family aren't near the genocide that is happening they are still very affected by this.
Like people being against the 'neutrality' of the red Cross have to understand that this is the same neutrality that doctors and surgeons have to have when it comes to aiding people. It's the kind of neutrality that is not about avoiding doing anything which is the real problem but the neutrality of "do no harm" which is a needed ethical point that needs to be with anyone who has a person's life in their hands. If people are worried that sending money to the British Red Cross might mean that the money goes to British Tax then that's just not the case as they are a charity and that means all the money that goes into the charity must go to whatever aid the charity is about with none of it going to taxes.
I just feel like the people who (rightly) get pissed about any doctor that doesn't help a trans or queer person because of the doctor's "religious beliefs" are missing the main point of why this shit is horrendous, because it is one person who has someone's life in their hands choosing who lives or dies instead of just trying to do the job of preventing death.
And the British Red Cross only brings aid to civilians, people who are just living in these places, and Israeli civilians are still people with lives, whether they support their government or not or anything, they still have families and the death of those families can be kindling of the corrupt and is the suffering of the living, regardless of whether it is an Israeli family or a Palestinian family (it's even this point that is making me post this anonymously because I saw how people questioned Taz's heritage and I've had people dismiss my nationality because of how much I try to stay anonymous (my parents are queerphobic and I am currently engaged to my girlfriend of 4 years and of course I don't want my parents knowing that))
And I've brought up like people making this point that he wanted to distance himself from his arab half because he goes by Taz Skylar instead of Tarek Yassin and like ??? The man has been upfront about being dyslexic and tarek, and Yassin has multiple phonetic spellings that would mess with writing it??? Like legit, Taz Skylar is probably the easiest thing to write and read if you're dyslexic.
And then the way people acted over him, deleting tweets and shit like yes, he is an adult, but he's also an adult that has mental issues and had been upfront about that??? Like, I'm just glad that he eventually just stuck to the point and clarified some things as well in his Instagram post. (Like the fact that he brings up that he also wanted to help the refugees that come up to tenerife kinda shows that he had other things in mind and probably just didn't think that would translate to taking any position on the genocide and when people mistook that he had to clarify he just doesn't want innocent people hurt)
Ngl I might just send some anon messages once in a while just being like "AND ANOTHER THING" but atm it is also too early so for now imma leave these points and just try to get on with my day because OOF
Thank you for this! Because I've argued with peoplen who say "you can't be neutral in a genocide" with "yes, actually, you can because it doesn't mean you're INDIFFERENT. And in the case of thr RC, neutrality saves the lives of INNOCENT parties on both sides." But they just don't wanna hear it. I guess because it makes too much sense? Idk.
And the issue with his name is stupid as FUCK. I'm half Sicilian. In the 40s-60s, MANY singers and actors would change their ethnic looking/sounding Italian surnames to more "American" ones. People changing their names and/or shortening them is NOTHING new, and even white Americans have done the same thing in Hollywood. Let's be honest, he probably went with Taz Skylar because 1) Taz sounds like a possible nickname given to him when he was a kid and he just stuck with it because he liked it and 2) going into the acting business with an Arab name? Guess what roles he's gonna get stereotyped with. Especially if/when he becomes bigger over here in America. It has zero to do with "distancing himself." He's done nothing that other famous folk haven't been doing for DECADES.
You can send as many ANONS as you wish. Honestly, this is my first time ever getting Anon asks, and it's been fun 😄.

2,3,5,6 for the ask game

Least favorite part of writing.
when you've written all the fun interesting parts that you could visualise really easily and you're just left having to write all the stupid connective tissue that gets you from A to B but also can't obviously read like you've just whacked out the stupid connective tissue because it needs to be there :( :( :(
Books or authors that influenced your style the most.
off the top of my head: vladimir nabokov, taz muir, robert kurvitz, karl marx, orhan pamuk, eduardo galeano, tennessee williams, emily bronte, walter benjamin, susanna clarke
Favorite character you ever created.
i love miriam, the narrator of this short story, my horrid little poltergeist girl. Literally the champion of hating and being a hater. Would've loved the "killing myself in front of you to forever change your bond and the trajectory of your lives" tweet,

Hello. I hope my message doesn't come off as mean or judgemental. I wanna talk about the OP/OPLA fandom.
I fully agree with the criticism of Taz Skyler, but 98% of the OP fandom worships Oda like a God when he's friends with 2 mangakas who are child predators (the Kenshin and Toriko creators)... I love OP as much as any other fan (I don't give it my money though), but I wish fans didn't feel the need to kiss the creator's ass so much, or make excuses for him using his clout and money to promote his predatory friends.
People in the fandom saying that Taz or the potential casting of Jamie Lee Curtis as Kureha will "taint" OP when the creator already did that feels like people don't take CSA as seriously as they should. Almost anyone who brings up Oda's terrible taste in friends gets shut down with poor excuses or treated like a "hater".
OP is also a story full of fatphobia and misogyny, where Oda makes it clear that the only women worthy of being seen as attractive and worthy of devotion need to be thin and have big breasts. People fight me on this one all the time, but the treatment of fat female characters like Alvida and Shinobu proves I'm right.
Again, I love OP... but it's been flawed before Taz Skylar tweeted anything.
hello! it's not mean at all & i agree 100%! oda is incredibly flawed & there's a lot to criticize about the original manga. i've actually spoken about oda's misogyny in my own personal blog before.
this is why i'm not acting like still enjoying opla is a sin (or one piece in general), even tho the cast may be problematic. if i did, i would stop running this blog at all. i am merely withdrawing my personal support from the cast for the sake of my sanity to be frankly honest.
i'm glad you brought up these issues & sent this message, so thank you! honestly part of the reason i'm excited for the live action is to see them hopefully rectify some of the major issues with the animanga, like the horrendous fatphobia, certain characters' (like sanji) misogyny & queerphobia, etc.
i agree that judging opla & its cast, while pretending that oda & the original content does not have plenty of issues is indeed incredibly hypocritical. i'm also not a fan of ppl using the genocide in palestine to speak ill of opla in general bc they never liked it to begin with. it's honestly disgusting & disrespectful.
i think the bottom line is that it is important to be aware & critical of what we enjoy & the ppl involved in it.
thank you once again for taking the time to send this message, i really appreciate it!

Thank you for all the wonderful work you do for the rpc, you’re a gem <3 Kind of nervous to message you so anon it is!
I wanted to add some context for Taz Skylar being added to the pro Israel list as the linked tweet doesn’t provide much information; regardless of how this is viewed, I think an overview of events is needed. He was raising money for charity on New Years Day via Instagram by doing a half Ironman triathlon challenge in Tenerife. He chose Red Cross+Red Crescent as he wanted to primarily raise money for migrants there and they have a hand in supporting them, which was mentioned in one of his Instagram posts. Over the course of the day while actively doing the challenge, his parents were handling his social media accounts and flagged with him that followers were pointing out that Red Cross is run by the British government and directly supports Israel; clarification: they’re an independent humanitarian organisation as part of the ICRC and IFRC which operates under a neutrality clause defined by the Geneva Conventions, with a presence in both Israel and Gaza for decades prior to the war. He mentioned a few times via live videos that he wasn’t raising money with the war in mind, but followers continued to ask about his stance on the war and to choose a different charity. He put up some explanatory posts both on Instagram and Twitter which were on the side of neutrality; as he was inevitably inundated with negative comments on these posts, he disabled comments but these spilled into unrelated posts which is how the blocking started. The posts were later deleted and he temporarily locked his accounts until fairly recently.
Hey anon. First and foremost please don't call it a "war" because it's genocide and there's no "prior to the war" there's only prior to when Isr*el colonised the land in 1948, massacring Palestinians to make way for their settlements. There's a reason the resistance exists.
Back to the ask, can you please link me to the comments he made? Because right now the only one I can find is him saying that having "different views" is ok and I can't find anything where he has a neutral stance. Either way, neutrality on a genocide is an evil stance. From the information I've got, it sounds like "people were being mean to me for picking a charity which also supports Isr*el and not picking a charity that only support Palestine." Also, the fact he posted the statement on "having different opinions" and not speaking up on Palestine when he's aware the the genocide is very telling but I hope I'm missing something.
Thank you and I'm looking forward to hearing back from you.

“On May 14th, 1998, Taz introduced the ECW fanbase with what would be known as the FTW Championship (also referred to as the Brooklyn World Championship). It was created after months of frustration as then ECW World Champion Shane Douglas refused to give him a shot at the title. Injuries would also hinder Douglas from facing Taz at the time.
The letters FTW manifested that frustration, meaning: “F*** The World.”
(…)
According to Taz, the title was a way to symbolize the rebellious nature of the ECW fanbase, which accepted Taz as the top star of the promotion and wanted to see him as the world champion instead of the highly protected Douglas.
“[The] FTW Championship has always been renegade, anti-establishment, and unconventional,” wrote Taz in an October 2020 tweet. “That has never changed, and that will never change.”
Upon the title’s arrival in ECW, it was made clear that it was a championship that the management had not officially sanctioned. Instead, it was a prize legitimized by the fans.
(…)
The FTW Championship was briefly seen in Xtreme Pro Wrestling in November 2002 when Chris Chetti declared himself the champion before losing the title to Danny Doring, who once again unified it with the promotion’s world title. However, these defenses are not considered a part of the title’s lineage.
The championship would then stay retired for almost two decades to follow. However, this changed on Night 2 of All Elite Wrestling’s Fyter Fest Dynamite special on July 2nd, 2020, where Taz brought the FTW Championship back and awarded it to his client Brian Cage.
(…)
PWInsider revealed that Taz owns the trademark to both the FTW Championship and its related logos, allowing him to do as he wishes with the design, thus allowing him to bring his ECW legacy to his new home in professional wrestling”
“Although the FTW Championship is consistently seen in All Elite Wrestling, it is referred to as not officially recognized by the company. The champion may be announced as such and have a custom black-and-orange chyron, but the FTW Championship exists in a world of its own. Even since its first day, the FTW Championship has been an outlaw title, unable to be contained by any promoter or company. It stands as a manifestation of The Human Suplex Machine's twenty-plus year's path of rage.
'FTW' had been a part of Taz's branding for quite some time before it became forged in gold. Standing for 'F*** The World', the three-letter initialism encompassed what Taz was all about. He was a one-man wrecking crew that trusted nobody, liked nobody, and hated everybody. Taz was the meanest monster in all of ECW, routinely suplexing people into oblivion and choking them out, surviving only if he let them. Taz was a major fixture of ECW programming, holding the ECW World Television Championship for 267 days. As one of the promotion's marquee talents, it was only a matter of time before Taz entered the world title picture.
(…)
On May 14, 1998, Taz unveiled the FTW Championship, arguing that if Douglas would not face him, then he would crown himself the world champion. The first iteration of the belt was a modified version of the company's Television Championship, with the leather strap painted orange and 'FTW' stickers placed over the plates. This would soon be replaced by an all-new belt, changing the FTW Championship into the design seen today in AEW.
(…)
Taz emerged victorious, regaining the championship he had created months ago, and unifying it with the ECW World Championship. Now merged, the FTW Championship was effectively retired. It took over twenty years for the belt to return, doing so under very similar circumstances to its origin. At the 2020 edition of AEW's Fyter Fest, with Jon Moxley unable to defend the AEW World Championship, Taz awarded his client Brian Cage with the very same FTW Championship. Its return brought the title back to professional wrestling's spotlight and to a bigger audience than ever before. The belt has retained the same combative and rebellious spirit that it was conceived with, with Team Taz carrying on the legacy of their namesake and ensuring that the AEW audience understands what an FTW lifestyle looks like.”

Taz became startled by Megumi's yelling. This mission must be stressing him out. "Don't worry, Megumi! You will get him next him!" She said, trying to cheer Megumi up.
----
"Now go home, Daichi." Kanne tells him. The flame sorcerer sighs and nods, "Right. Have a goodnight, Master." He said, taking his leave. Eito tweets Kanne a goodnight before leaving with Daichi.
Daichi is walking back home. Towards a building. He climbs and goes through a open window. He yawns. He takes off his jacket and starts to go to take a shower.
Then a door opens.
"Huh? Where were you?" A girl no older than 20 looks at him as she has a brown ponytail.
"Out. With friends."
"From a manga cafe? Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I'm sure, Maemi-san." He tells her. Maemi sighs, "Anyway! A family wants to adopt and I was thinking-"
"Answer is no." Kisho curtly said with a frown. Maemi sighs, "Kisho-"
"I don't want to leave Satiama for anyone. I'm going to work jobs and save up some money so I can find a place to live by myself." Besides...he has his family here. No one else.
Maemi worries, "Still...you're a child. You shouldn't...."
"Listen, I'm fine! It's nothing illegally. Just doing manga reviews!" He said with a smile. It's the truth. He has a second channel, but it's for Kisho only. But Daichi is the one making real money around here. "Anyway, I'm going to shower and sleep. Talk to you tomorrow." He said.
'Their alright Taz though they let the other slip away from them.' Gojo said.
"WE DIDN'T LET HIM SLIP! HE RAN OFF!" Megumi shouted over the phone making Gojo move the phone away from his ear.
'Even so. You three need to find him again and try to convince him to come back with you. 'Nicely' because that means you given a bad example of us thinking were bad.' Gojo said.
"We told you.." Nobara and Yuji said to Megumi.
"Oh hush! DX"

I don't usually do this, but as a big one piece fan, witnessing all this hate really disturbed me. I happened to be on the One Piece Live Action discord server when this whole sh*tshow started and all I can say is, thank goodness people there are actually sane. Basically, one person on twitter insinuated something about Taz's donation and started spewing bullsh*t and misinformation. Though some people of the server tried to stop this by calling out this person's attitude, their tweets had already started spreading everywhere.
I don't follow many One Piece accounts on twitter besides the official ones. But I do like to browse through some artists now and then. Watching them spread so much hate really saddened me. Kudos to @8balldoodles, by the way, for having the guts to share a LA Sanji's redraw today, if you can give it a like.
And thanks for listening. Just needed to get this out o my chest, I guess. Cheers!
Ooh I've seem their art and I LOVE it!!! Yes definitely check out this person's Tumblr if you're into Zosan especially. It's awesome!
What's sad also is that it's not enough to call him a Zionist with zero evidence, I've seen some people call him racist, misogynistic, transphobic, etc and I'm just like....fucking HOW!?!? Where in the actual fuck did yall get THAT shit from!?! "Because of the people ge follows" motherfucker, he follows over 2k people! He ain't policing every single follows personal business. The man has a fucking life where he's actually out having adventures (oh, and actively raising money to help people who need it).

I cannot sing the praises of Griffin high enough for his use of the narrator. Like, yeah, he was mainly used for goofs and recaps, but during those final few episodes? whenever i click a link justin mcelroy tweeted and it turns out to be the intro to the pest i force myself to watch it all the way through because this is god’s way of punishing my gullible ass for falling for the same fucking joke for the 800th time in a row
#also because it reminds me of how griffin summarized the intro to the pest more perfectly#than anyone else in human history has ever summarized any other piece of media#with the tweet: 'honestly it's not so bad once you get past farting dracula#problem is while you're in farting dracula it feels like you've always been in farting dracula#and will always be in farting dracula until the moment of your death'#(which he also posted right before the taz live show in tacoma that i attended! god that was a great night)#like it's truly so apt. he's right and he should say it#mcelroys
