I'm fairly new to the fandom myself as I only watched the anime last year! but to answer the ask, idk I guess something in me just clicked

The idea of Kunikida and Chuuya interacting came to my head in that helicopter scene, where the PM saved the ADA from the Hunting Dogs (you can imagine my disappointment when they didn't so much as aknowledge their existence). When I saw them in the same space together I thought "huh, would you look at that, the two partners Dazai has had... I bet they got a lot of venting they can get over with a good drink"

I've already made a post with my main points for how their dynamic would work, but just to expand on that (and bc I love talking about them):

• Like I said, they can have a funny lil moment to breathe and just complain about the living hell that is dealing with Osamu daily

• As an aftermath of their characters being created to bounce off of Dazai's antics, they have quite a bit of similarities between them that they can both help enhance mutually; like being hardheaded, both being excepcional physical fighters, both wearing their heart on a sleeve, both being destined to be the next big honcho of their respective organizations, both doing things that would be considered contradictory to their line of work, and many little details more

• I've also begun to think of many, many alternative scenarios where these two can make for an interesting plot, mostly, like I said, a post canon/future part where they've both inherited they positions as boss of the PM and president of the ADA respectively, making for many meetings that develop into a sorta kinship on their moral code as leaders of two important groups: as Chuuya, being a high rank of a criminal organization, doesn't actively enjoy killing and sees his men as the living humans that they are; and Kunikida isn't opposed at all to bend the country's rules and do some shady stuff if it's for the greater good of the people

So it's mostly just potential and parallels between their two stores that keep me wishing for at least a conversation that lets them see a bit further from the surface of their personalities and the rolls they play in the BSD world

Or it's just that I love Kunikida and I don't see the appeal in romantic Soukoku lol

Plus they have the potential to make a compelling duo that gets Dazai absolutely jealous and makes him lose his shit, cuz sure, he can take them one on one, but with both of them partnered up against him? Yeah, no shot

And can you imagine a fight scene between them? No Arahabaki, no abilities, just pure hands, mano a mano

Also I totally agree with everything you said on their dynamic-- I've recently been exposed to way too many new ships (chuuatsu, kunichuu, kunichuuzai... etc etc), and I have fallen in love with chuuatsu and kunichuu bro😭 they have my HEART.

That's so real, BSD ships overall slay the majority of the time. Kunichuu is also a good one! Overall, I need Chuuya to be more in BSD; he needs to meet more people, smh.

But going over to the headcanons I have 👀

They technically don’t argue a lot, but they bicker constantly, specifically when Chuuya’s temper flares up and Atsushi doesn’t back down once he’s pushed too far (although it is more of a playful and sassy fight rather than actual arguments between them). They don’t hold grudges specifically because of that, as it is playful or, in the end, leads to breakthroughs in their own relationship.

They're very much "the opposites attract." Atsushi’s quiet and reflective nature overall often calms Chuuya down, while Chuuya’s boldness pushes Atsushi out of his comfort zone. They’re chaotic together, but it does balance out nicely.

Nicknames. Just nicknames. Chuuya has a horrendous habit of giving Atsushi the worst nicknames ever, and Atsushi pretends to hate it (even whining about it), but he does secretly find it endearing.

Sass everywhere. Sometimes it feels like a sass battle between the two, as Chuuya DOES use sarcastic and sassy remarks, which Atsushi isn’t scared to push back against with his own.

Chuuya wants to treat Atsushi to expensive dinners for dates. It never works. Atsushi’s simplistic nature means that while Chuuya plans for expensive dates, Atsushi always manages to get them to eat something cheap but delicious at the end of the day. The older can’t complain, though, as he does, in the end, enjoy it and even finds it endearing. Not that he’s about to admit it to anybody else.

If they live together, or Atsushi stays over for the night, Chuuya is usually a "morning grump," while Atsushi is always functional in the morning (waking up at 5 a.m. is wild, but at the same time, I get you, Atsushi... I used to have to stand up that early too a few years back). Atsushi loves to tease Chuuya about his bed head and his refusal to even speak before he drinks something.

They actually have tea times. Especially since, after some time, Atsushi developed a habit of brewing tea when Chuuya is stressed, so it became somewhat of a bonding ritual for them.

It’s not often they have missions together, but with the whole PM and ADA alliance still intact, it does happen on very rare occasions. After those missions, Chuuya sometimes drapes his jacket over Atsushi’s shoulders without really saying a word, while the other wordlessly sits beside him, offering a hand for him to hold if Chuuya looks upset.

While Atsushi is still too young to drink for now, he does somewhat pick up on Chuuya’s drinking habits. He doesn’t drink actual alcohol, usually settling on something like a soda or sparkling juice, sitting with Chuuya during his wine-drinking nights just so he can keep him company. Chuuya, in fact, appreciates the gesture a lot more than he’s willing to admit.

Atsushi isn’t stupid. He knows full well about Chuuya’s insecurities, which is why he subtly compliments Chuuya during casual conversations when he can tell Chuuya is feeling down on a particular day.

They both adopted a stray cat. It’s not to Chuuya’s ideals, as he did want a dog, but he will settle on a stray cat, which Atsushi just brings one day into the apartment... It then happens a few more times, so now they have 2–3 stray cats. Chuuya acts annoyed about it, but he does end up spoiling them with fancy treats and cozy beds.

So yeah! That’s them haha.

“I am not high-strung!” Kunikida argued. “Unlike you, I actually have a set of ideals and morals that I strive to live by. If that makes me high-strung to the world, then so be it. At least I have those to fall back on.”

“Hm,” Chuuya hummed, all traces of laughter vanishing within seconds. Although their chests were practically touching, they somehow managed to stalk even closer. They hooked a finger around Kunikida’s collar and pulled him down, ignoring his indignant squawk and red skin.

“You seem pretty high-strung to me, even without all your ideals. Looks like you could use a break, pretty boy.”

I’m probably use this blog for writing, talking about said fandoms, obsessively thinking about my ocs for each said fandom, and making very politically(/j) incorrect analysis about characters. And, more! I’m sorry this is so long, really just ask me abt anything and it’ll eventually happen.

Last thing: I might post about my own stories that are… painfully unfinished, so here’s a brief intro about each (they’re all heavily inspired by my respective fandoms, we don’t talk abt that):

*Insert Dramatic Title* (IDT): A robot by the name of Edis is asked to save humanity from a prophecy stating that, from five years from now, the world will end.

Slaughterhouse (SH): A pair of twins live in a “Haven Town” where there outside world was shrouded into an apocalypse. They learn how to truly survive in such a restrictive environment and find out the subtle corruption of their system.

‘Vest of the ‘Usual (VOU): A young boy has unusual abilities that leads him to work in the government, which depicts him having to do the unthinkable: go to school. And, do his job, that too.

Act I (A1): Olesia Lexina has had one dream all her life: protect humanity from the evil that is godlyhood! This follows her journey through the ideal of becoming on of the top members of the “Guardians of Humanity”.

Project: New World (P:NW): The government has allowed a project and organization by the name of “New World” to attempt to “purify humanity of all of its wrongdoings” and it has taken the world by storm; unfortunately, Chara has absolutely no interest in any of it.

The Eight Tragedies (T8T): An Angel has come to earth to ultimately destroy everyone on it, in which a humanities major named Reminiscence gives the world (her two friends) a chance to fix their problems before it can do so—by going into the past eight times to fix mistakes that should’ve never happened.

Majic Girl: BOOM ★ (MG:★): this one is something I’ve been meaning to get motivation to work on properly. A young freshman girl watches her whole world turn upside down (close to literally) to as some sort of eldritch horror resurfaces the earth! And she is one of the few people making the attempt to kill it.

$1 Supermarket ($1): The economy as we know it had crashed after inflation has risen way too high to the point even the upper class finds it hard to buy anything. Thus, a brand new chain store by the name of $1 Supermarket has arisen! Where everything is exactly $1! And there’s like, a bunch of monsters everywhere, but that’s besides the point.

Sexuality Headcanon: Bi, I'm not sure he knows about the being attracted to men part yet.

Gender Headcanon: Honestly your transmasc headcanon for him is slowly seeping into my own headcanons, so...

A ship I have with said character: I like most Kunikida ships I've seen, but soft spot for the specific flavor of Kunichuu that's popped up in my Agency Chuuya AU. By accident. Did you know they can be so domestic. And they have a dog.

A BROTP I have with said character: Kunikida and Katai's dynamic does indeed warm my heart, and thank god it's canon. But Kunikida and Atsushi are also so iconic...

A NOTP I have with said character: Nothing comes to mind? As I've said I like most Kunikida ships I've seen.

A random headcanon: I think delinquent Kunikida is a fairly popular headcanon, but I do adore it, whether full-on delinquent or just him being a lot more crass/rude in high school. I also think the scheduling is something he did not have when he first met Katai, developing that over the years and being in full force by the time he joined the Agency.

General Opinion over said character: A very solid character all around, and one of the ones I think is the most difficult to morally corrupt. I want to see more of him coming into his role as the Agency's future leader, and just... more of him, honestly.

Oda!

Sexuality Headcanon: He's never thought about it. Very possibly pan though.

Gender Headcanon: He's a guy and he's pretty chill with that, not all that complicated.

A ship I have with said character: Odango... the inherent tragedy of it compels me so...

A BROTP I have with said character: Buraiha Trio, and all the friendships he has in it, and I will never stop thinking about them until the day I do.

A NOTP I have with said character: Od.azai, onesided or otherwise, isn't my cup of tea.

A random headcanon: Unlike what the old accountant claimed, Oda would have been much happier in the information department than out on his usual missions. Maybe in other timelines, he would transfer to there, and live a much more peaceful life- even if he still wouldn't become a writer.

General Opinion over said character: Excellent narrator of the Dark Era and a very well-executed character.

A random headcanon: One of the first things Ranpo and her bonded over all those years ago was their mutual love of sweets. Even now they both like nothing more than to have a good chat over sweets- and neither feel the need censor the gritty details of their cases or operations just because they're enjoying a nice treat.

General Opinion over said character: I love her so much and her character is so compelling and hey, have you ever thought about the parallels between her and Kyouka? Have you? Please?

i cant really remember but the process went kind of like: did it out of spite. saw some good ass fanart. read some good ass fics. made a few posts talking about their potential. thought to myself hey, let’s write a little oneshot perhaps. escalated DRASTICALLY. now im stuck here forever

the ADA would be more surprised about them getting together if they werent so painfully obvious about crushing on each other. chuuya sends gifts to the office all the time. when they have joint meetings kunikida is like yes :) i agree with chuuya :) so true :). so they’re not shocked or anything but they DID have a betting pool (ranpo won. cue the boos)

on the mafia’s side, i dont think chuuya would explicitly tell anyone at first. kouyou picks up on it because she knows him well and is of course wary at first, but she knows chuuya is clever and can make their own decisions so she lets it be. tachihara finds out when chuuya clocks in to work with a hickey on full display, so he tells gin who tells higuchi who tells the entire place. no one’s gonna question The Executive Nakahara Chuuya about it but i like to think akutagawa slipped in a little ‘happy for you’ when they were on a mission together!!

moving in together: kunikida and kenji living together makes too much sense to me so either chuuya moves in the dorms or kenji goes to someone else before kunikida moves in with chuuya. for the latter, i like to think it was just too many sleepovers happening before chuuya finally mustered up the courage to ask. by that i mean they had their face buried in kunikida’s shoulders while mumbling ‘if you. stay. theres already a drawer of your things here. 🙄 if you wanna. stay forever. whatever’ and kunikida laughs and accepts

I am but a mimicry. Fyodor-kun, tell me, how would you refer to your reflection? Is it more man or object?”

Higuchi comes up behind Gin and Tachihara, placing one hand on either of their shoulders before she harshly pulls them in close to her. She digs her fingers into Gin’s arm, and they can only assume she’s doing the same to Tachihara on the other side. “Never do this again,” she hisses, “or I will put you on bathroom cleaning duty for an entire month.” “But—” Tachihara starts. “No,” Higuchi interrupts. She clicks her tongue. “No special treatment because I’m dating Gin or because we share a partner. Complain, and I’ll make it two months.” Gin and Tachihara both nod solemnly.

If I had a sibling, I think I would have to kill them.” “It can be terrible,” Nathaniel agrees, because anything that can push you to defy the will of the Lord is a temptation best kept out of your life. And Nathaniel would rather forsake God than Phoebe. “But I would never wish to have lived a life without my sister. There are some weaknesses that will always be worth it.” Nikolai sighs. “You would believe that. You gladly live out your days in golden cages. I cannot understand what appeal you see in such a life.” “I don’t see it as a cage. And even if it is…is it not safer to be locked inside than to be locked out?” “I’m not interested in safety.” Nikolai drops his hand, finally, though he doesn’t move his head from Nathaniel’s lap. “I don’t know that I believe such a thing exists. All throughout my life, I have been the only person I can rely on to protect me.”

Ship Bias - Always Accepting!

1. KuniChuu - I love their potential dynamics in general, Kunikida is a creature of habits who likes to have everything under control, and while Chuuya might not be chaos incarnate, he's more impulsive and hot-tempered, I doubt Kunikida would be entirely happy with the way he handles cases sometimes. I'm especially fond of the KuniChuu ship I've lovingly plotted with @giftandguile​, Chuuya is head-over-heels for West's Kunikida <3

2. RanChuu - honestly one of my main OTPs for Chuuya, I've started shipping them the moment I first saw the confrontation between Chuuya and Ranpo during the Cannibalism arc, and I'm even more eager to explore their dynamics with them working together. I could see Chuuya being a sort of bodyguard for Ranpo when they're partnered during cases, and I would love to explore said dynamic.

3. Soukoku - oh man, I've always been intrigued by their dynamic in canon, so perfectly in sync in spite of their animosity, and with them working together sparks are bound to fly. My absolute love goes to the Reverse Soukoku AU with Vega's Dazai though. I've wanted to write ADA!Chuuya x PM!Dazai ever since I first started writing Chuuya and now thanks to Vega I can do it <3

4. ChuuAngo - one of my favorite Chuuya ships, their confrontation during DEAD APPLE had me shipping them so quickly and so hard you can't imagine. Their history might be similar to their canon counterparts' (Chuuya would still bear a small grudge against Ango because of the Dragon Head Rush, even more so considering Shibusawa's victims were Chuuya's adoptive parents) and I live for them meeting and talking after that. Shout-out to @iactito​ for first indulging my ChuuAngo needs <3

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d predicted? I never expect to write as much fic as I end up writing. 

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Some of the gen-fics. 

What’s your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? I have a lot of them actually but the ones that come to mind right now are the two later stories in the Revival series because figure skating is fun to write about. The first one was written in 2017 but I put a lot of work into the two that were written in 2018 and I hope to add to the series later. 

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? The Soukoku Trope Bingo fics and the ADA Week fics (like this one) were all territory I haven’t written for the most part (except the figure skating fic.) This Autumn Will End was also a risk because I’d never written Yosano in that much detail before. I got to know the new characters I was writing a bit more as well as the genres. I also learned that no one likes my kunikidazai LMAO but people are willing to give my lack of knowledge in some areas a pass. I also learned that I can write a lot of things I didn’t think I could. It’s just difficult. 

Your best story of this year: Aside from “only human,” Aftermath. It’s not a big au or even a long fic but I’m proud of it and I think it helped me write more fics this year in which Dazai and Chuuya’s relationship grows to become more trusting. 

Your most popular story of this year: only human, which isn’t surprising! It’s the fic I’ve written the most words for and its a multi-chap so people are exposed to it over and over again. 

Story of yours most under-appreciated by the universe, in your opinion: Everybody Lives. I think this is the one fic where I was nervous about what I was writing but felt tentatively proud of at the same time, but it didn’t get a response. I don’t know if it’s because it’s kunikidazai and not a lot of people are reading it, or if it’s because it’s bad kunikidazai. Either way, I still don’t know whether or not it deserves appreciation but I guess I can say it’s under appreciated. 

Most fun story to write: Yokohama: Unsolved. I mean...any story based on Buzzfeed Unsolved is gonna be a good time. 

Story with the single sexiest moment: adrenaline. Like I said last year, I’m a bad judge of this. This fic doesn’t have any sex in it at all, but listen that scene where Chuuya threatens Ango in Dead Apple...just...yeah. I would pay with my life too. So it’s kind of like that but with a gun.  

Most “Holy crap, that’s wrong, even for you” story: you know what? Even among the kink bingo fics I never got here. Compared to last year that’s kind of disappointing. 

Story that shifted your own perceptions of the characters: only human made me think about Dazai as a character more and made me realize that I like things about him. 

Hardest story to write: This Autumn Will End (which could also actually go into the category above for Yosano) because I had never written so much about Yosano’s character AND it was long AND it was an au and I didn’t know if people would like it. Also, Holding Pattern was a fic I had to write and erase and rewrite a lot of, more so than other fics. Also Never Enough was part of a rolling remix so figuring out how to remix the fic before it was a bit hard, but once I got an idea things flowed. 

Biggest disappointment: all of the top Chuuya kink bingo fics. Aside from that gunplay fic, I’m perfectly happy forgetting all of those things exist. 

Biggest surprise: Pick Up the Pieces series. Was meant to be a one-shot for whumptober, ended up being skk relationship development and I kind of still think about it and how it fits into other stories and how I’ve characterized Chuuya and Dazai in general.

Fic-writing goals for next year: Finish only human and/or Gifted and write the mutli-chaptered Psycho-Pass au because I have it all outlined which is a first but I haven’t written it. Also write more skk figure skating fics! I also want to create a world/au that people will be interested in talking about but idk what that is yet because even though I love au’s I’m also not great at that sort of thing.
