How to Keep Your Dog’s Coat Shiny and Healthy: Tips from a Dog Parent
Last month, my Labrador, Rico, decided to roll around in what I thought was mud in our garden. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t mud. As I stood there, mortified (while my neighbors struggled not to laugh), I realized it was time to step up my dog’s coat care routine. If you’re like me and wondering how to keep your dog’s coat shiny and healthy, you’re in the right place! Let’s dive into how we can make this happen, even with our unpredictable Indian weather.
The Indian Coat Challenge
Maintaining a shiny coat in India is no small feat. With humidity levels that make even human hair look wild, it’s no wonder our dogs struggle too! My friend’s Husky sheds so much, she jokes about starting a sweater-making business. Last winter, Rico’s coat became so dry that it felt like hay. That’s when I learned that keeping a dog’s coat shiny and healthy is more than just using fancy shampoos. It's about a comprehensive approach to care, from nutrition to grooming.
Nutrition: The Key to a Shiny Coat
Like my mother-in-law always says, “What you eat is what you become.” The same goes for our dogs. When I switched Rico from regular kibble to a protein-rich diet, his coat transformed from dull to dazzling! I also started adding probiotics, specifically Unleash Wellness’s JOLLY GUT, to his meals. Not only did it improve his digestion, but his coat became shinier too. Good gut health reflects in every part of your dog’s body, especially their fur.
Here’s a simple tip: try adding probiotics and a coat supplement to your dog’s meals. You’ll notice that their coat becomes healthier over time. Another thing that works wonders? A spoonful of curd and an egg every other day. Rico’s coat now gleams in the sunlight!
Bath Time Drama Solved
Bathing my dog used to be an ordeal. Rico acted like I was pouring ice water on him during bath time. That’s when I discovered TUDRY dry shampoo from Unleash Wellness, and it’s been a game-changer. It’s perfect for those days when your dog gets into something smelly, but you don’t have the time or energy for a full bath. A few spritzes of this dry shampoo, and Rico is fresh again in no time!
Supplements: The Secret to Healthy Skin and a Shiny Coat
One supplement that changed everything for Rico’s coat is NORUFF from Unleash Wellness. I mix it into his food, and within weeks, his coat became so shiny that other dog parents started asking me what I was doing differently. This simple supplement makes a big difference, and the best part? It’s easy to add to your dog’s routine.
Seasonal Coat Care
Indian seasons, from scorching summers to humid monsoons, can wreak havoc on your dog’s coat. In summer, I brush Rico daily to minimize shedding. During the monsoon, when wet fur is unavoidable, I rely on dry shampoo and paw-drying sessions. These little habits help keep my dog’s coat shiny and healthy year-round.
Aging and Coat Care
As dogs get older, their coats need extra attention. Rico just turned seven, and I’ve noticed his coat needs more TLC than before. I’ve kept his diet consistent with supplements and regular brushing sessions while we watch TV. It’s become a routine that not only helps his coat but also strengthens our bond.
Practical Tips for a Shiny Dog Coat
Here’s what worked for me:
Probiotics for gut health: Good digestion reflects in a healthy coat. I use JOLLY GUT from Unleash Wellness.
Supplements for coat care: The combination of NORUFF and daily brushing has transformed Rico’s fur.
Dry shampoo for quick refreshes: TUDRY dry shampoo saves me on those muddy days.
Eggs and curd: Adding these to your dog’s diet can make their coat shine.
Oil massages: Coconut oil massages once a week keep the coat moisturized and soft.
The Results Speak for Themselves
Last week, during our neighborhood dog meet-up, three people asked what I was doing to keep Rico’s coat so shiny. That’s when I knew all the effort was paying off! If you’re wondering how to keep your dog’s coat shiny and healthy, remember it’s not about one magic product but a consistent routine of good nutrition, supplements, and regular care.
With the right products like JOLLY GUT, NORUFF, and TUDRY from Unleash Wellness, and a little patience, you’ll see noticeable improvements in your dog’s coat. A healthy coat is a reflection of a healthy dog, and trust me, these simple changes will make all the difference!
FAQs: Coat Care Questions Answered
Q: My dog sheds a lot. What can I do?A: Shedding is normal, but if it’s excessive, start with good nutrition. Supplements like NORUFF can significantly reduce shedding. Regular brushing helps too!
Q: How often should I bathe my dog in India?A: Once a month is usually enough, but use dry shampoo like TUDRY for in-between baths, especially during the monsoon season.
Q: My dog hates bath time. Any tips?A: Try using lukewarm water and keep bath time short. For in-between cleans, use dry shampoo.
Q: Are coconut oil massages good for my dog’s coat?A: Absolutely! Regular oil massages, combined with proper nutrition, will help keep your dog’s coat shiny and healthy.
Q: My dog has dry skin. What should I do?A: Check their diet first. Probiotics like JOLLY GUT and omega-3 supplements can improve skin health. If it persists, consult your vet.
With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to keeping your dog’s coat shiny, healthy, and soft—just like Rico’s!

[ india eisley, female, she/her ] whatever you think you know about KITTY RAYNE, the 20 year old, ASEXUAL, NEW COMER, it is likely time for you to start reconsidering. the rumored WEREWOLF is often described as INDEPENDENT + STREETWISE, but don’t let them fool you; they can also be BLUNT + NAIVE, which often has them regarded as the THE WARD. they are UNEMPLOYED, but it’s also said they are a BETA within the BLOOD MOON PACK. whatever you hear, you can’t deny there’s more to them that meets the eye, and it’s time we start uncovering the truth.
Past
The Rayne pack was a small pack, living in a cabin in a national park, and despite the small size, they were highly respected by other packs in the surrounding towns, but feared by any human that came upon them for their reputation. Kitty was the youngest of her siblings, her father the overbearing and powerful Alpha of the pack. They relied on their wolf side over their human side, so would regularly hunt for meals, living in the middle of the woods, and avoiding venturing into town as much as possible, aside from the school-aged weres, who attended just to avoid suspicion. They hunted humans, shamelessly, most in the pack over the age of ten having blue eyes from having made their first kill. But being only seven and the pup of the pack, a lot was kept from Kitty, still learning the basics of being a werewolf when the pack was attacked. During a family meal, hunters attacked the family with wolfsbane vapour. All the doors and windows were barricaded, and Kitty remembered screaming as her mother and older sister fell to the floor. Her father put his hand over her mouth to silence her, leading her and her eldest brother to the kitchen, where her other brother and sister were lying, the plates of food they were carrying in smashed on the floor.
Keeping between the trees and away from the roads and trails, Kitty could see her father was struggling to breathe, but he refused to admit it, the three of them moving until they got to their closest ally's land. At that, her father asked for a place to stay, and aid in tracking down the hunters that did this, wanting revenge. The pack laughed at him, telling him to beg, and Leo Rayne was not one to beg. He demanded the Alpha fight him, and it was only moments later that Kitty watched as her father bled out on the floor, his throat slashed.
Without an Alpha, Kitty and her brother were given two options - join the Blood Moon pack, or join their family. Kitty knew of the pack, her sister having been betrothed to marry into it, and how much her father told her they should show them respect, that their morals aligned with her family's. And so she accepted her new pack, her new family without a second thought.
Facts
While not diagnosed, Kitty has autism, and struggles to know how to properly socialise, and often misses social cues. Her brother is one of the few people that can touch her as well without her freaking out
The first and only human she's killed was a school counsellor when she was in high school. After she got into a fight she was sent to speak to her. The woman already had concerns about Kitty, and when she tried to push her to tell her what was going on, she got too close and Kitty lashed out, shifting and attacking her, which the pack had to help cover up.
Her brother recently got a Labrador puppy she named Pig. He claims the dog is his, but really he got it for her.
She collects Happy Meal toys. It's something she's done since she was little.

Cat and dogs some people have favourites some people don’t some people are allergic some people don’t like pets, but when it comes to Thor and Bruce they have a different perspective
Thor is a dog person he likes puppies i mean who doesn’t, he’s been compared to a Labrador retriever by Loki before because according to Loki he’s like Labrador Retrievers “easily loved by everyone, can be intimating to outsiders, and have this stupid smile”
Bruce is a cat person he likes cats mainly European Shorthairs because when he was in india after helping someone they gifted him a little European shorthair kitten that he named Alvin
When Thor and Bruce decided to get a pet together it had to live up to two expectations, it has to be a pet both Bruce and Thor like and it has to get along with Alvin
Alvin doesn’t like many people, it took him a while to get used to Thor at first too so another potential pet may be challenging
They decided on a dog, a Pomeranian to be specific its little its fluffy and would most likely get along with Alvin..hopefully
They named the dog Ulf, a more norse name (it means wolf and is also a name of a viking) and thankfully both Alvin and Ulf got along nicely

I know many people do not know about this movie but I'll still share it and tell my experience watching the Kannada-language movie, "777 Charlie"...
__
I have seen a lot of movies that features animals and their bond with humans. Obviously the most common were Hollywood movies such as 101 Dialamations, A Dog's Purpose, A Dog's Way Home, and others including Dr. Dolittle and even I Am Legend starring Will Smith. The first one must be either 101 Dialamations or Dr. Dolittle.
I come across a very few movies in Hindi circuit of movies that does such a task. Examples include Entertainment, Dil Dhadakne Do (not per se a bond but still), Bollywood classic Teri Meherbaaniyan, and a small yet important role played by a German Shepherd in Salman Khan and Dia Mirza starrer Tumko Naa Bhul Paayenge.
I am reminded of the music video of Marshmello's song "Happier" (with Bastille voice and Miranda Cosgrove act as a teenager finding happiness in her Labrador dog). I cried the first time I watched the video and still feels like this whenever I see that music video and hear the song.
As I mentioned earlier, I have a really little, and tbh, almost no experience in coming across wonderful movies in our Indian Film Industry, featuring a bond between a human and an animal.
#777Charlie announcement and trailer gave me a feeling that this movie might bring a new trend for such movies with its impact on box office or basically excellence in creating such a feature film.
I must tell you that Kannada Film Industry and Malayalam Film Industry, and Bengal Film Industry are those finest industries in our Indian Film Industry space that has a brilliant line-up of genuinely good artists, creative and technical excellence, and unique story to tell. Credits to YouTube channel named Tried & Refused Productions, handled and operated by Anmol for this information through his different videos on his channel (recommended to check out).
As I stepped into the theatre, I knew it is definitely going to be one of the best human-animal bond movies and going to give me an emotional ride. That happened. It did gave me an emotional ride.
TBH, like most commercially made action movies from South India and even Bollywood so often, this movie too had some glimpse into action, but not so much, and definitely no unnecessary show of action put for no reason, and most importantly, it was not as if the main lead is fighting 10 people at a single time and defeating them all with a single blow (which usually happens with most commercial action movies). Only a few instances.
Was the focus on the main lead too much? I'd say, it was not. In most and almost every commercially driven movies has a obsession to keep focusing on the male lead, following his narrative and almost make people worship him. In 777 Charlie, movie begins with the bitch (yes, it's a female dog) and ends with a representation of a human-animal bond.
Storyline in 777 Charlie might feel at times pretty predictable. I felt it's going to be a ripped off version of "A Dog's Way Home". But, it was not. Before interval everything's going well and almost predictable to what's happening, but after interval, I too was having this constant train of thought, wondering what's going to happen. Basically, the movie has an element of surprise, and suspense while giving twists a few times.
The adventure that both bitch, named Charlie, and the main lead, named Dharma, ventured on... Wasn't just limited to a road trip. I won't give details but seeing the movie, and seeing the duo of Charlie-Dharma coming across different scenarios and situations will definitely give you adventurous feeling, that too with your pet. Wow.
Acting by everyone in the movie was good. The comedy didn't feel forced. Neither the dialogues were sleazy or cheap to make anything funny, nor such characters were there who will act stupidly just to make audience laugh on their stupidness. Everything in the movie felt natural.
About acting performance, I shouldn't forget to leave behind mentioning about two artists in front of the camera. First is the actor playing the role of main lead, named Dharma, whose real-life name is Rakshit Shetty. I don't know much about him, and have only read about him a little, only due to this movie. As of now, I haven't watched his movies. Seeing him in this movie today, I'm excited to watch more of his work in other movies. I've heard about Rakshit Shetty's uncanny and unique choices of movies, and his work as an actor. It was his acting that sparked emotions in me and worked as an outlet of, perhaps, what I'm feeling. His acting was so genuinely good that we can feel his pain and happiness both with him, especially in the scenes where he's interacting with Charlie. The second actor, or better say, actress was the bitch (female dog) who played the role of Charlie. I mean, pfft, I know real credits goes to the trainers but hey, I'm talking about the one who acted. I don't know yet what's her actual name though. I know that if it wasn't for this bitch to act so well, I wouldn't be laughing, smiling, and crying as much as I did today watching her scenes play out.
Movie's technicalities were also good. Music, cinematography and editing... Trio of these aspects made all the performances in the movie like putting icing on the cake or cherry on the top. I really like the idea all these technical aspects didn't make the movie too stale to watch, rather accompanied the story with great interest.
As aforesaid, I knew this movie is going to be an emotional ride for sure, and I expect to get emotional time to time. Obviously, it's a sweet innocent and beautiful movie about an animal who fills happiness in the life of a loner, an anti-social guy who is a kind human being, and an absolute sweetheart keeping love for everyone, but trying to keep distance from people and is dealing with his trauma or depression. (Can't say).
Now, what I didn't expect was that I'll be sobbing and crying so much, even after movie ended that one of the guys sitting right beside me would have to give me his last sip of water to drink. Thanks to him BTW. A real kind human being 🌼
777 Charlie is out in the theatres. I'm obviously not saying that watch this movie now and anyhow. Well, do if you can. But do watch when it'll be available on OTT platform as it will also be having English subtitles then, making it easier to reach a wider audience who are ready to enjoy it.
Thank you for reading till this point. This is the first time I have written such a long blog post. Again, I appreciate you giving your time. I wish you the best for your life and your aspirations. ❤️
Lastly, on that note, I also intent to use the above-mentioned post as a script to the review video on 777 Charlie with a few changes. Later 🙂
Updated: attached link below to the review video on 777 Charlie. I'm happy to see that everyone's liking the review. I'm glad I wrote this blog post. Do watch and let me know how you like it ☺️

 jiya padyar
Full name: Jiya Padyar Nickname: Jee, J Date of birth & age: 3rd July 1991, 30 Zodiac: Cancer Gender & pronouns: Female - She/Her Sexual orientation: Bisexual Place of birth: Austin, Texas Neighbourhood: Claret Park Length of time in Providence Peak: A few months Occupation: OB-GYN
Family
Father: Saira Padyar (Adoptive mother) Mother: Arjun Padyar (Adoptive father) Children: Son - Sam Padyar (5) Siblings: Three biological siblings, names unknown. Pets: Chocolate labrador - Coco
History
- Born in Austin, Texas, Jiya was immediately adopted. Her parents, both on a cultural exchange programme from India, had kept Jeevika’s pregnancy a secret from their families back home and three hours after she was born, Jiya was officially adopted by Saira and Arjun Padyar. They raised Jiya in Boston, Massachusetts and doted on her. Unable to have their own children, Saira and Arjun were enamoured with their daughter. Although she had a happy life, growing up, knowing she was adopted, Jiya always felt a pang of abandonment, not knowing and then not understanding the reasons her biological parents had for giving her up. She later found out that her biological parents got married and had three further children together who they raised themselves. This crippled her.
- She went to Yale for her undergraduate degree before moving to Baltimore to study at John Hopkins medical school. She stayed at John Hopkins for her OB-GYN residency, enjoying being close enough to home for weekend visits, but far enough to gain some independence.
- On a girls trip to California, Jiya met @ravi-khan and they had a one night stand. She only knew his first name and believe she’d never see him again. Also not a stranger to one night stands (hey commitment/abandonment issues), Jiya thought no more of it.
- She thought no more of it until six weeks later she sat on the toilet holding a positive pregnancy test. Refusing to think about it, it was only when she got to twelve weeks that she confirmed her pregnancy and had a scan. Seeing her baby for the first time, she finally came clean to her parents who were overjoyed with the idea of a grandchild. After transferring her residency to Mass Gen, back home in Boston, Jiya began looking for Ravi online.
- Long story cut short, she found him, saw his profile pictures was with another woman (Sophia), got scared and didn’t bother messaging him. She had the baby, a little boy she named Sam and carried on with her life, juggling a newborn, motherhood and residency all at once. A month before Sam’s first birthday, her parents kicked her ass and all but forced her onto a plane to go to California. She turned up on Ravi’s doorstep with Sam in her arms and set off a whole shit storm.
- When Jiya went home, Ravi followed her and they tried to make a relationship work for the sake of their son. For Jiya, she fell head over heels in love with Ravi and thought that, with him and Sam, she had found her happy ending. They dated for two years before Ravi ended things and to be honest, Jiya isn’t coping well with it.
- She was offered a job in Providence Peak where she could specialise in reproductive endocrinology, her dream job and Ravi encouraged her to chase her dreams.
- Now settled in Claret Park, Jiya is happiest when she’s at work or with Sam. She is still heartbroken over their break up and is low key still in love with Ravi and struggles beyond measure on the days and nights she isn’t working and doesn’t have Sam, but she is trying to focus on the positives.
Summary
- Abandonment issues. They are real, they are large and in charge and dictate a lot of how Jiya lives her life/reacts to situations. A lot of events have added to these in her life and to be honest, baby girl needs a therapist.
- Her son is her life, will talk about him for hours. Will clam up when Ravi is brought up. She isn’t over that yet.
- Will do anything and everything to keep herself busy when Sam is with Ravi, she really isn’t dealing well with being without him on Ravi’s days. A little tiny part of her dies every time she watches them walk away.
- Has a fantastic sense of humour, is a sassy bitch and will call you out on her bullshit, but don’t call her out on hers. To be honest, she can be a bitch when her emotions take over.
- Gives an excellent pap-smear, 10/10 would recommend. Is also a very good OB-GYN, she loves her jobs, loves her patients and is very nice to deal with.
- Please love her.

“So what’s there to be afraid of, hey? We’re just colonizing a little early, that’s all. You wouldn’t be afraid of Earth, would you?” Oh, sure. Think of Earth. Kind old home. Think of the Arctic. Of Labrador. Of Southern India in June. Think of smallpox and plague and earthquakes and ringworm and pit vipers. Think of a nice case of poison ivy all over, including your eyes. Status asthmaticus. Amoebic dysentery. The Minnesota pioneers who tied a rope from the house to the barn in winter because you could lose your way in a blizzard and die three feet from the house. Think (while you’re at it) of tsunamis, liver fluke, the Asian brown bear. Kind old home. The sweetheart. The darling place. Think of Death Valley… in August.

I am 40 years old - have been recently laid off from the company I worked for. For the past 15 years, I was working at a call centre that had a UK contract, the client was a bank that forwards its customer's queries to us. I started off as a lowkey office boy then worked my way to become the manager of the unit. After the recession hit - our client went bankrupt and there was no reason for our company to exist. I suddenly went from being a manager to being unemployed. My wife became our only source of income, the economy being so slugging, it was extremely difficult for me to get a new job.
Our family of four had to shift to a smaller flat to make ends meet along with our dog a Labrador. Our dog gave birth to four beautiful puppies, but this was a problem, when we made plans for the dog to have children, we didn't expect our financial situation to change so drastically, this small flat hardly had place for 4 of us - with 4 more dogs it would be nearly impossible for us to manage, and to add to that the amount of money that had to go towards taking care of them was not something we could afford back then.
We decided it would be best if we could just give away the puppies, our children were not happy with the decision, but they were grown enough to understand our predicament. I asked a few of my friends if they wanted a puppy, they all said no, one of them said why don't you sell them? I was surprised, I enquired him about how can I sell them, he told me about the miracle of free classified.
I placed a free classified ad on many of the classified portals in India and frankly speaking I did not expect it to work - was a little sceptical about it, but I soon started getting inquiry calls from so many of the potential buyers who were keen on buying my puppies. I sold the first one for INR 4,000, then I learned the art of bargaining, and I sold other two for INR 6,000, I sold the last and the cutest one for a whopping 10,000 Rupees.
