Already rewatched the new ep of Little Demon since it's on hulu now and I can't get over what a good ep it is. They aren't brushing over what happened with Bennigan, he's still mad but he still cares about Chrissy, so things are awkward. Chrissy still feels terrible about what she did.
And the way Laura's trauma causes Chrissy's trauma is just so real. Satan really fucked Laura up, and you get the sense that she was already struggling to begin with. But all of that affects the way Laura treats Chrissy and so of course she ends up deeply hurt.
I think what Laura said about using her powers for good in Possession Obsession really got to Chrissy. Because she tried to use them for good in that episode, and then she tried to use them to magically fix Benny's problem in the Antichrist's Monster and that went terribly. All of Laura's comments about Chrissy being evil are probably making her hate herself even though she can't help who she is.
Also I'm living for Bennigan and Darlene trying to help their friends but also valuing themselves. Their friendship is super sweet!

Can I just say, I really appreciate how Critical Role plays the Devil trope straight. There's been this phenomena in a lot of modern media (I'm not going to mention specifics but I'm sure a few examples pop up in people's minds) where Hell and the Devil aren't scary or malevolent forces. Hell is portrayed as being basically the same as our world just "edgier", and the Devil is a pretty decent guy actually. Heaven are secretly the real bad guys!
But Critical Role doesn't do that. In Exandria, Asmodeus *feels* like the Devil. He's malevolent and manipulative and terrifyingly powerful and he hates you, personally. We never see that type of portrayal anymore! And it's amazing! And he still manages to be sympathetic and tragic without losing his edge!
And the "Good Gods" are portrayed as flawed without being secretly evil or something! Like, actual nuance? In my Heaven/Hell dichotomy? What!?
It's just such a breath of fresh air after so many "The Devil was right, actually" stories. So props to Matt and Brennan and the cast.

(Unseen Academicals, Terry Pratchett) I think Shang Qinghua and Ponder Stibbons should have tea and compare notes about somehow accumulating so much behind-the-scenes power by doing menial jobs no one else wants that they could basically run the show if they wanted...
meanwhile we have Shen "meh good enough" Qingqiu

One thing that was really driven home for me this season was how much power Crowley has. How much influence.
To recap:
Shax, despite hating him and being his literal replacement, is constantly asking him for advice and help.
Furfur comes to the magic show in 1941 to arrest him and Crowley, like, laughs at him and goes back to sleep. "We shant, this is ridiculous."
In a room (the bookshop) with both Heaven and Hell's top brass, somehow Crowley was in charge of that meeting.
Both Furfur and Saraqael really really wanted him to remember working with them.
The Metatron knew he had to separate Aziraphale from Crowley in order to effectively manipulate him.
Like. He's unafilliated from both Heaven and Hell at this point, everyone (but Aziraphale) hates him, and yet people listen when he talks. People do what he says. It's incredible.

if alastor wasn’t literally a deer i’d call him cat-coded. man wants attention so so bad but cannot possibly be direct about it. he just shows up places and hopes in his stupid little demon heart that everyone will ask him where he’s been and what he’s doing

I love how people look at this scene now and are like "Oh he's just a little guy" and yeah, while he is very tall for the average modern elf, Solas was in fact always just A Little Guy compared to some of the sentinels in Mythal's temple. lmao
Tumblr media
Even the spirits in Trespasser (that look just like him the sentinels), are pretty damn huge as well...
Tumblr media
Though it seems like the Evanuris are enormously tall even compared to them? But they're also blighted just like Corypheus, who was also huge, so I wonder how much the Blight altered their appearance?
There was this moment in The Masked Empire that stuck with me, where Briala and the gang enter some elven ruins and after going down some narrow stairs, she notices that the steps are getting larger the deeper they go, to a point where she's like "Huh, I wonder if our ancestors were giants or something" and I remember thinking "Ok, I know the ancient elves were taller, but stairs SO big that Briala has to take two footsteps for each stair step, even though the entry to the ruins was somehow normal-sized, so.. What was that about?" 😂
This also reminds me again of the legends about Korth, the Lady of the Skies and her little, nondescript "ptarmigan" that may or may not be referring to Solas after all. :D

deeply obsessed with how ryoko kui chooses to foreshadow mithrun's condition by having kabru, nosy gossip extraordinare, going "man ..... idgaf about this guy ......."
In all seriousness, this is a really good example of how Ryoko Kui's grasp on her characters contributes to Dungeon Meshi's fantastic pacing. We're being treated to both expository world building and excellent characterization such as:
1. We're learning more about our secondary antagonists while learning more about Kabru and all the things he'd been exposed to growing up with the Western Elves
2. We're having Kabru's extreme attention to detail about people being reinforced and used to hint at future developments, as he's unable to glean anything more than surface level traits about Mithrun (How odd!)
3. We're being subtly set up to think that Huh .... There's Something Up With That Elf .....
Like I cannot stress enough how insane it makes me how Ryoko Kui is able to convey so much information in such a short stretch of time. There's not an ounce of fat here. It is so chefs kiss 💋

@akarenweek day 3: reverence
Tumblr media
i was excited about this one! i think a lot about the back scars hakuji must have, and how kyojuro would react to them if he knew.
anyways, here is also a little ficlet of the moment, because i couldn't help myself:
akaza wakes up from taking the cure, and kyojuro seems shocked when akaza removes his vest to reveal the multitude of old scars stretching gnarly across his back. akaza explains that it was from when he was a child, that he'd been whipped for stealing, that he couldn't save his father and that he couldn't save his new family, either. and then he murdered for revenge and got turned by muzan. pathetic, isn't it?
and kyojuro says, no, just sad. unfair. i'm sorry this happened to you. and kyojuro touches his back scars with a kindness akaza doesn't think he deserves. kyojuro presses his lips softly against his back, so light akaza almost doesnt feel it through the layers of scars that stiffen his body. his touch is gentle, tender, reverent, like maybe he finds something valuable in akaza, something still worth holding, and holding close.
akaza just turned back into a human, but it's kyojuro's careful fingers and his warm lips that make him feel human again. tears well up in his eyes, and blur his vision as they start falling down his cheeks.
he would say this weakness is pathetic, but he has a hard time believing kyojuro would treat anything he finds pathetic half as dearly as he treats hakuji now. if he can't believe it himself, then as always, he'll just believe in kyojuro. at least that, he can do for certain.

Something something about red blue and yellow all being primary colors, what makes up our spectrum of color. They compose all the hues we can see. They are always reflected back at us. Red, yellow and blue are the building blocks for everything.
But only on paper.
Only in two dimentions.
Also the way bill shows ford a new color previously unseen, on that doesn’t have any of the primary colors in it. Somthing completely new, just for the both of them.
