Thinking about the vampire chronicles
How the vampires canonically become asexual when they're turned, and lose sexual desire. And yet they remain as passionate as ever.
Still, they never say things like "bf" "gf" "husband" "wife" "he cheated on me" "we broke up". They never explicitly date, get engaged or marry. Instead they vaguely call each other "lover" and "companion". And the word "love" is used so loosely to encompass their centuries old companion as well as the mortal woman Lestat met two days ago.
How Lestat is fascinated by humans. How he describes even strangers so passionately and poetically. No matter the age or level of attractiveness, Lestat finds beauty in them.
How Lestat and Louis partner up in a non sexual relationship, raise a child, and then Louis goes his separate way and how fascinated he becomes by Armand and then they become "companions" and once the passion fades they go separate ways and Armand finds Daniel and turns him and they go separate ways and every relationship is allowed to be temporary yet still poetic and passionate. And the sparkling moment in which teenage aroace me, before I even found out my sexuality, dreamed of a future full of similar relationships. Each exciting, unique, passionate, lasting as long as they need to last, like a flowing river of loving connections.
And no relationship among the vampires is more important than the other. They love and are loved without limiting labels, and they always meet again. Lestat calls everyone his "lover" and is unafraid of expressing his most intense feelings.
I've read Loveless, I watched Heartstopper, but when it comes to making me feel represented, somehow the vampire chronicles still takes the cake, despite not even being intended as aroace representation. It is close to my heart with all drama and weirdness and intensity.

THIS
EXACTLY
I've wanted to make a post about this for ages but I wasn't sure how to phrase it.
I love how undefined the relationships in The Vampire Chronicles are. And how they are so explicitly, poetically, beautifully full of love, no matter how they refer to each other. It's one of the reasons why the series hit me so hard, I think. Because they are not dating, married, in any sort of defined relationship, but there is so much love and passion and emotion to every single one of them. They're allowed to remain 'companions' or 'lovers' or just them, undefined yet so clearly a pair, and it doesn't take away anything from the intensity of their relationships, or the beauty they see in each other and everything else.
Those sorts of relationship being portrayed in a book means a lot to me.
