I am going to tell you a secret. Everything is about wanting. Everything. Things happen because of people wanting. Watch closely, and you’ll see what I mean. “Ghostwritten” by David Mitchell Photo: Lissy Laricchia https://www.flickr.com/photos/lissyl/

there seems to be a new trend in the world of young photography. there are a handful of 17-ish year olds [okay maybe they aren't all that young] with cameras and some basic photoshop skills who are going outside, nearly dying of exposure, and taking pictures of themselves in the process. i've found that there are lots of them, so it's hard to tell who started some of these trends. like the cotton candy smoke, the ripping through sheets, the illusion of flying/floating, the standing on your head and leaning against something vertical, the lying down naked in something obviously cold, the photoshopped underwater swimmer in a house, etc. some genuine creativity might be getting lost amongst some of these photographers, since they all seem to follow each other's flickr accounts religiously.
like all things that are original and good, this style of photography is getting copied and overused. but gosh darnit, i don't care. because the resulting images are beautiful. when i was 17, myspace was a big deal, and young self portraits were almost only in the mirror at that 45 degree angle with emo hair and eyeliner [boys&girls].
i've linked to one of my favorites. but there are others like http://www.flickr.com/photos/lissyl/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/karrah_kobus/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/michael_sleet/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/brookeshaden/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/simplycasual/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/likedaffodils/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/gomophotography/

The Snow White Dilemma by Lissy Elle on Flickr.
I cannot begin to describe how much effort must have been put into this photo. It has this striking effect at first sight. It takes quite a while to take it all in and come up with a sane idea about what it might be narrating. Lissy Laricchia (a.k.a Lissy Elle) is my other biggest inspiration on Flickr (together with Brooke Shaden). I remember seeing her stream for the first time like yesterday. I was in awe, in astonishment, full of adoration, as I was wandering around in her dreamy page. Since then, she managed to keep that magic to today. She always has these incredibly unique ideas, which, I'm sure all will agree, seem to determine the Flickr-trend immediately. She inspires so many people, including myself, that I don't think a record could be kept. 90% of the time I see a magical photo, it is (as denoted or sometimes sadly not) Lissy Elle inspired. I can only imagine what a broad imagination she has. I hope she never ever gives up photography and I can continue to stare at her page with my heart pounding with admiration.
