What are some specific things you love about your friends?
Well, I love everything about all of my friends! I love how accepting Annie, Lissy, and Maisie are. We never judge each other and we’re all always there for the others. And we’re all so different but those differences don’t really matter, and sometimes I think they bring us closer. I think it’s nice how Charlie seems to be protective of me, but not because I’m too fragile but because he seems to understand that I’m not necessarily programmed to look out for myself the same way people are. But most of all, I love how--at least it seems-- they all don’t exclude me or talk to me different just because I’m an android.

bailiwick guilt | lissy & dante
[It’s less common than Dante would have thought, for people to request therapy. Most of his patients are only there because it is mandated. So he is always surprised by requests, particularly when he sees who made the request.
He is familiar with Ms. McCall’s situation, of course. Most of the Elites are. And it generally goes unspoken, in part because it’s an incredibly uncomfortable thing for people to discuss, and in part because it is far beyond anyone’s experience. Even in his years at Altcourse Dante had never worked with cannibals. On the surface, while it’s a distasteful topic he wouldn’t necessarily judge people for doing what had to be done in the interest of survival. But what Lissy and her group had done hadn’t been necessity; they had lured people in, as he understood it. It was premeditated, not panic or self defence.
If her staunch vegetarianism (also noted in her file) is anything to judge by then she truly does feel remorse over what she did, and she is very young. Without speaking to her, Dante doesn’t feel that he can judge, particularly without knowing what prompted her to actually request an appointment. Why now? He couldn’t say. He simply prepares and anticipates with a healthy dose of respect for how heavy this session is likely to be. His door is, as usual, ajar in readiness for a patient to enter. He looks up at the sound of footsteps, greeting her with an inclined head.]
Lisbeth, come in. Or do you prefer Lissy? [He’s heard people call her that, but he’s not sure if that’s reserved for friends only.]

mens rea | lissy & wren {ruina rex: funeral}
@lissy-mccall
{As the day of the funeral progresses and people start gathering for the wake, Wren starts to feel increasingly more uneasy. He hadn’t had much contact with Kaiser and therefore can’t really relate to those in mourning, although the rumours surrounding his death have left him rather rattled. No, the worst thing about the entire situation is the helplessness. Wren feels entirely and utterly helpless and he hates it.
Aside from wanting to impress his parents and keep up the overachieving legacy of his family, Wren had become a doctor for one very simple reason: helping others. It’s cliché and earns him dumbfounded looks whenever he mentions it, but it’s the truth. What other motive could he possibly have had for putting himself through the hell of med-school if not to achieve something close to his heart? He could have quit after the accident - and maybe he should have - but he hadn’t. He’d continued onwards, dragged himself across the finish line on all fours, because he’s always known deep down that there’s nothing else for him.
The funeral had been miserable but the wake is even worse. Everywhere Wren looks he sees suffering, resentment, pain. It engulfs the room, suffocating and heavy; a suitably morbid atmosphere for a group mourning not just the loss of a man but the loss of a voice. It’s almost enough to make him wish he were high, just to ease some of the guilt.
At some point, from the corner of his eye, he catches a flash of blonde hair. As he makes to turn, he finds himself face to face with a very familiar frown.}
Ah, Lissy. Hello. It’s good to see you again. How are you holding up?

covenant | lissy & isha
[Allegedly, the training rotations are randomised. In practice, however, Isha has noticed she is almost never in the same group as Ada. She takes that personally, but she does understand it. Sometimes Isha thinks it is a small miracle that they allow her to participate at all, given her conviction.
Today, the trainer tells them to partner up rather than assigning the pairings. This doesn’t please her, because it means that she either has to choose, or someone else will choose her, and either way it feels revealing. Casting about, she decides she will choose quickly and then she is at least the one in control of the situation. Lissy McCall is in the group, and the other girls she’s usually with are absent -- she feels like the right choice.
They’ve never spoken, but Isha respects the quiet intensity with which Lissy conducts her business. She is uninfected, and doesn’t seem terribly politically inclined, which is unfortunate, but as far as the options in this class go she is certainly the best choice.]
I would like to be your partner, please. [Isha approaches her without hesitation, just in case anyone else gets any ideas. She speaks confidently, as she always does, but her coolness is thawed just a little. If Lissy said she would prefer to partner with someone else, Isha would understand. Isha is, after all, a considerable degree taller than her, so would perhaps be at something of an advantage.]

mors vincit omnia || lissy & roy
[The common room is quiet. He’s honestly enjoying the quiet for once. It’s in that time in the evening before everyone comes back to go to bed. Most people are out doing things with their friends from other houses or eating dinner. Roy’s taking this time to try and relax in the silence. He’s reading a book that was missing its covers, so he didn’t have the title when he picked it up, but it was decent. Just another dystopian romance. People really liked imagining what the end of the world would look like. It’s a fine read; it’s nice to picture living in a different apocalypse every now and again.
He hears someone enter the common room, and it’s not until she’s closer that Roy looks up to see Lissy coming in. He hasn’t talked to her much--if at all. He tries to tell himself that he said hi to her as they passed in the halls, but he knows that’s not true; he doesn’t interact with people in that sort of way.
And he never really wants to talk to her. Not because he’s just wanting to be a dick, but because he always gets that sense about her. The feeling of someone surrounded by Death. It makes the Reaper stir inside him, makes all the ‘symptoms’ of his purpose louder. Excited. It’s unsettling, to say the very least.
But Lissy looks... alone? Usually she’s got one of her roommates around, but right now she’s just here. By herself. And despite the dark feeling that’s gatheriing around him--the icy grip that clasps onto his neck and shoulders-- he shuts his book at looks over to her.] Hey, [he says, his voice feeling loud after so long sitting in silence. He truly doesn’t even know how to follow up from that. He’s off to a great start of trying to be personable.] You skipping dinner, too? [But after another quick glance, he feels like he should say something more. Because it’s not that she looks upset or distressed, but she doesn’t necessarily seem to be happy. He should try more, he thinks. Act a little more like he cares.] You alright?

RUMOUR WEED | fee, annie & lissy
[Felix has spent the majority of this week feeling pretty smug.
Not that ‘smug’ is particularly out of the ordinary for Felix just on a day to day basis, but moving into the new week, the colony is energized from the party, and everywhere he goes, people are still talking about it.
Of course, that’s partly due to the nature of life at the colony, and post-apocalypse in general: things like that don’t happen very often, so when they do, they make waves. But Felix is exceptionally good at seeing most things in his life with a slant in his favour, and it’s much more favourable to assume that those waves are all about him. And they basically are, anyway. It was his party, so he’s directly responsible for everything related to it.
Except the bad things, obviously. It goes without saying that those, few as they may be, are all somebody else’s fault.
He’s been in such a good mood, in fact, that he’s even gotten a bit more to eat this morning. Some toast with nut-butter (mixed, from the smell of it, but he’d tried a bit on his finger tip and it was actually really delicious), and a plump looking nectarine. It doesn’t smell like much, which may or may not mean anything, but it’s just the right amount of firm, and he’s pleased that when he takes his first nibble, the flesh inside is bright and sweet.
So it’s with a bounce in his step that he walks up to the table Annie and Lissy are just settling into, and he sets down his tray and sits down across from them with an impish smile.] Morning, my queens! Oh my God, I’m so glad I caught you guys. I’ve been holding onto this juice for like, three whole days and I’ve been dying to tell somebody.
[And it’s true—sort of. The night of the party, his conversation with Charlie and Ricky had been an interesting one, and he’d made a mental note at the time to definitely talk to someone about his budding theory. And by ‘someone’ he definitely meant the Cal Gals, because he knew they’d be all over his hottie gossip. But after the way the party had ended, and the amount of time Fee has spent since thinking about his up coming date with Alois, not to mention just soaking up all the post-party attention in general, the whole thing had slipped his mind. Even when it comes to good gossip, he's still easily distracted by thinking about himself.
But then he’d seen Ricky and Charlie chatting in the corridor last night and it’d all come rushing back. And then he’d been desperate to tell somebody. It’s only been a few hours since he’d been reminded it, and it already feels like if he doesn’t tell someone about it soon, he’ll burst.]

NON-LIVEPLAY GAMES, MARCH 2163 - ‘Double Trouble’
OBJECTIVE: “DOUBLE TROUBLE” is a LAST TWO STANDING, ‘Hunger Games’ style game and will commence at sunrise. Survivors will begin the game as every individual for themselves, at the edge of the gaming grounds. When the starting horn sounds, survivors may choose to take a chance at The Hoard for weapons and resources, or head straight for the woods. Forming alliances is recommended, but remember, alliances are temporary and can change.
TEAMS: None. 1 vs. All, Personal Alliances only.
WEAPONS: This game will include ALL COLONY-APPROVED TRAINING WEAPONRY. Players begin the game without arms, but may obtain them at The Hoard or at hidden caches around the gaming grounds.
*HIT LIMIT: 1 *KILL LIMIT: 1
KILL PROTOCOL: SURRENDER; Participants who reach Kill Limit are immediately eliminated and must report back to the games staging area.
ADDITIONAL RULES AND INFO:
⚒The game will commence in a clearing at the edge of the gaming grounds, with the treeline ahead (NE). In the clearing, to the SE, will be The Hoard, a large resource and weapon supply. At the start of play, participants may choose to run for it first, or bypass it and head to safety.
⚒Personal alliances may consist of 2 to 5 participants from any house. They must never exceed 5 players. Alliances are based on an honour system; there are no official rules against targeting an ally.
⚒’Sponsor Kits’ can be found hidden throughout the grounds. If an individual receives a hit but has a Sponsor Kit, they may use it to remain in the game. Sponsor Kits are metal cylinders about ten inches long and 3 inches in diameter, and contain a cloth bandage which can be tied at or around the point of the recent hit. Sponsor Kits are one time use only; when the seal is broken, a vial of dye will shatter and soak into the white bandage to indicate its use.
⚒The winning pair may be from the same house, or different houses. Throughout the game, an individual’s achieved kills earn points towards their respective houses, and the winners will get to keep these for their house, plus an extra 250 points. In the case of winners from two different houses, both houses will receive their respective earned house points, plus 250 for the win.
⚒All PDD messaging capabilities have been disabled for the Games. They function only to receive notifications.
CHECK BELOW THE CUT FOR GAME RESULTS AND HIGHLIGHT SUMMARY!
“Bloodbath” - the First Hour
When the horn blares, about half the games participants head straight for the cover of the trees, while the others book it to The Hoard: the huge weapons stash in the clearing. Charlie Essex and JR are among this group. JR gets there first, quickly holstering two handguns, and is about to go for some grenades, when Charlie waves at him with a supply backpack in hand and they both run off. It’s not until they get deeper into the gaming grounds that they realize Charlie’s ‘bag of supplies’ is woefully empty.
Back at the weapon stash, it’s still pandemonium. Draco Pavlović gives Mei Zhu Fitrei a bloody nose in a scuffle over a sniper gun. Alexander Donovan finds Annie Perrault hyperventilating behind a weapons rack, white knuckling a bow. He shoves a quiver into her hands and tells her to run, watching her back as she nervously complies. Meanwhile, Felix Turner and Rosalind Stein nearly collide going for the same bag of supplies. Rose is confident she can easily overpower Felix, until he starts literally shrieking like a maniacal banshee. His wordless wail makes for such an alarming scene, that she opts just to retreat.
Underdogs, Constantin Lupei and Adrien Bennett decide they’ll start off the hour strong, and team up to ambush the next pair of people they see… which turn out to be Mei Zhu and Alex. This backfires dramatically, and Costin and Ajay are among the first half dozen players eliminated. Angel Thorne follows suit when he decides to simply walk off the gaming grounds. He is immediately disqualified.
“All for One…” - Hour 2
Hour two is the time to start forming alliances. Lake Valentine is travelling with Lissy McCall and Annie Perrault, but he dooms them all when he accidentally sets off an InertiaShell. They are all caught in the red vapour and slowed to a crawl. Annie passes out from the effects of the grenade and her usual exhaustion and while trying to wake her, Lissy and Lake become very easy targets when they get attacked by Caelan Whitmer and Arvo Covey. Annie, Lissy and Lake are all eliminated.
Roy Walters hasn’t come across anyone he trusts to team up with, so resolves to lay low. He manages to steal a Sponsor Kit from Mitch Douglas when the elite isn’t looking, and then camouflages himself into some bushes. Meanwhile, Petra Starr convinces a handgun wielding Teilo Aisling not to shoot her, only to shoot him with his own weapon as soon as he agrees to the alliance. Orson Hurst, Maisie Pace, Mason Quinley and Mira Sigar come together to form an only slightly more promising lineup.
Rosalind is fashioning an illegal slingshot up in a tree when she spots wifey Josephine Parker and quickly pairs up with her. As for Charlie and JR, despite their slightly disappointing start, they’ve stuck together and take out Emmanuel Trent as their first victim.
“Acclimating” - Hour 3
Bode Lindqvist has kept to himself but has proven resourceful. He is well armed and has already found a couple of Sponsor Kits. When Koda Payne and Clayton Boyd attack him with ranged weapons, he manages to evade them and escape unscathed. Orson is much less lucky, when he is briefly separated from his group and finds a stash of grenades that apparently Dylan Meir had also had her eye on. Orson grabs a couple tilt grenades, but his nerve-damaged hands spasm, and he drops one, setting it off. With Orson briefly incapacitated by the blue vapour, Dylan has plenty of time to shoot him with an arrow, grab the rest of the grenades, and take off. Nearby, another woman is kicking some nerd-boy ass; Charlotte Williams effortlessly picks off Kip, acquiring his Sponsor Kits.
Koda and Clay try again to make an impact: they sneak up on JR and Charlie in the woods, only this time, they’ve thought it through and have set up traps in the area. They even manage to take out JR with a well-aimed arrow. Charlie then chases both Koda and Clay, firing his handgun as he goes. He eliminates Koda with a stim in the back, then lets off a wayward shot just as he bulldozes into one of the traps and falls to the ground. The weapon skids across the forest floor, but the last shot has caught Clay in the shoulder. Fortunately, the Delma has a Sponsor kit, which he uses to survive. He doesn’t have to go it on his own too long, however, as he runs into Corbin Ealy, who’s trying to evade a prowling Kaiser Bahr. They hide together (because fuck that noise), then decide to team up.
Left alone after Kip’s elimination, Arvo stumbles across Enoch Lynch, while he is caught in hand to hand combat with Paxton Semenyuk, and steps in to help. She and Enoch form a new alliance (which we’d like to coin ‘NET’: Newbie Elite Transfers). Alois Van Asch, on the other hand, is a bit slow on the uptake, and has been wandering the grounds somewhat aimlessly, enjoying the (mostly) quiet of the woods. At one point he is spotted just gazing at the sky.
“Imprudent Behaviour” - Hour 4
Fate, never a kind mistress, soon interferes with Bode’s chances. While he is distracted by an unfortunate issue with his hearing aids, Jo and Rosalind steal the weapons he’d set down and make a break for it. As they run, however, they encounter Dante Carrington; true to form, the Good Doctor puts rules first and disqualifies Rosalind for the illegal slingshot in her grasp. This is witnessed by Corbin and Clay, who were drawn in by the kerfuffle. Corbin reckons it would be hilarious to orchestrate an ambush against Colony 22’s biggest Tight Ass, and with Bode still nearby, it’d be like ‘taking biscuits from a baby’. Fortunately, it doesn’t take much convincing, and the three of them take Dante out without any issue.
Meanwhile, Draco climbs high up into the branches of a tree, seeking a moment to formulate a plan. Aurelia Ferris chooses this particularly inopportune time to walk by, and she doesn’t even see who shot her. Diederick D’Mornay, the perpetual gentleman, spots Anaya Dolman with a Sponsor Kit and doesn’t have any trouble liberating it from her. Emboldened by his success, he gives chase to a couple of other totally threatening Calysets: Mira and Maisie. In his hasty pursuit, he loses his footing and face-plants on the forest floor.
Unlike Ricky, Petra Starr has a little moral fortitude. Alois has grown excruciatingly bored of the Games and asks Petra, (who has now paired up with housemate, Dylan) to just shoot him so he can go the fuck back inside and sleep; obviously this wouldn’t be the same as earning an elimination and would basically be cheating, so Petra declines.
After his temporary alliance with Clay and Corbin, Bode decides to roam alone again, which backfires when Madison Vega eliminates him quickly with a sniper. Persephone Evans and her bleeding heart take a moment to tend to a small injury Cambie Andrews has sustained, but they have to run when they spot Clove Modius and Benji Imes approaching.
“Homestretch” - Hour 5
It’s the final countdown and about halfway through the fifth hour, we’re left with eight tiring finalists. Of these eight, seven of them are in two different alliances. The first such alliance is made up of Torren ladies, Ada Woollacott, Petra Starr, Dylan Meir and Charlotte Williams. The second is a group of egomaniac loudmouths: Corbin Ealy, Draco Pavlović and Diederick D’Mornay. Madison Vega is the eighth finalist, currently remaining a one-woman operation.
Catching a glimpse of Charlotte through the trees, Draco splits off from his group to chase after her, ignoring the protests from his allies. He proves himself rather too big for his boots when he catches up with Charlotte to find her not alone at all, and the team of girls take him out, Charlotte’s Angels style. Nearby and hearing the shouts, Maddie is so caught up watching her back that she steps right into a snare set hours before by Roy. With no one to come to her rescue, it’s endgame for her, too.
But time is running out, so the Charlie’s Angels gang decide to pair off to cover more ground. Petra finds Ricky vulnerable while he does a damage check from his earlier painful fall, and gets him in the back with a stim, while Charlotte manages to catch Corbin similarly unaware. Just like that, the prideful Delmas are out of the running. But while Charlotte and Petra were away steamrolling the Delma boys, Ada had immediately turned traitor, submitting Dylan with a pair of chameleons around her neck.
So naturally, when what’s left of Ada’s allies return, Ada is on the offensive. There can only be two winners, and Ada wants to make sure she’s one of them. Unfortunately for her, feral strength won’t be enough this time; she launches herself at Petra and Charlotte but is overpowered by their exceptional teamwork and clear heads. Moments later, the victory horn sounds: Charlotte and Petra have officially become an unlikely pair of winners. Between Charlotte’s congenital heart defect and Petra’s only recently recovered ankle injury, it is a victory hard-earned and well-deserved.
WINNERS CHARLOTTE WILLIAMS & PETRA STARR
FINAL STANDINGS Torren: 525 pts | Brink: 275 pts | Delma: 250 pts | Calyset:250 pts
POINTS AWARDED 725 pts to TORREN HOUSE
ELIMINATION TALLY*
*Please note that though we included a small handful of NPCs in the games generator, we did not include them all, so there would obviously be plenty of other participants whose eliminations are not established in this list. It can be assumed that many of these would have fallen in the first hour or two, though of course not all. If you need any NPCs for any further plotting or head canons for the games, you may reference any listed open characters/NPCs from the dorms list who fit your idea, or you may use a nameless NPC. If you are unsure, do not be afraid to reach out!
In no particular order:
Hour 1: Constantin Lupei, Adrien Bennett, Siddhartha Jha, Angel Thorne
Hour 2: Annie Perrault, Lissy McCall, Lake Valentine, Teilo Aisling, Emmanuel Trent
Hour 3: Mitch Douglas, Orson Hurst, Caelan Whitmer, Roy Walters, JR, Koda Payne, Felix Turner, Paxton Semenyuk, Andreya Roche, Xavier Crane
Hour 4: Kaiser Bahr, Rosalind Stein, Dante Carrington, Enoch Lynch, Aurelia Ferris, Mason Quinley, Anaya Dolmen, Maisie Pace, Charlie Essex, Bode Lindqvist, Arvo Covery, Alois Van Asch, Mira Sigar, Alexander Donovan, Mei Zhu Fitrei
Hour 5: Josephine Parker, Cambie Andrews, Clayton Boyd, Benji Imes, Clove Modius, Persephone Evans, Draco Pavlović, Madison Vega, Diederick D’Mornay, Corbin Ealy, Dylan Meir, Ada Woollacott
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR MEMBERS AND TO THE PARTICIPANTS OF THE COL22GAMES, MARCH, 2163!
The timeline has now moved forward to the 4th week of March. If you need more information on the these non-liveplay games and how to move forward with plotting, check out this post.

Lissy McCall | Twenty; Survivor
House: Calyset Security Class: 1 Status: Uninfected
tw: cannibalism
History
Some are born leaders, but Lissy isn’t one of them. She was always entirely content to follow the pack. In school reports, teachers suggested that she was perhaps weak willed, appearing to simply follow orders without question. The trouble was that her gentleness was confused with weakness: in actuality, she was a confident young woman. She followed because she saw no problem with it. If, however, any of her friends had a cruel word to say then Lissy would be the first to tell them to shut up.
Though she wasn’t necessarily the brightest in her group, she was a fierce friend and had time to talk to everyone. If the world hadn’t ended, she would have grown into a wonderful woman. But, when she was only fifteen, her world was flipped upside down.
Having lost both of her parents, Lissy wandered for a few weeks until she was found by a group of looters. Rather than killing her or robbing her, they took her in: loose as their morals turned out to be, they drew the line at murdering a child. At first they kept things private from her— she stayed on the sidelines and had no idea what they did. She was full of questions, but they were inevitably brushed away. One looter in particular, introducing herself as Orla, became a friend to Lissy.
Looking back, Lissy has realised that Orla was telepathic and had mastered its use in manipulation. She had such a trusting voice that when it made its way through one’s head, they couldn’t help but trust her. For weeks the two girls would spend evenings closeted away together talking and laughing and learning to trust one another— and it was almost no surprise when she was told of the reason that they had such a plentiful supply of food; particularly meat.
Lissy had been kept away from lootings. Her unease with them was obvious, and the looters were right to do this. Had she found out any earlier, Lissy would have run. One of the most dangerous gangs of looters, they would drag solitary wanderers into their group and eat them. It was the easiest way to find food, and when Orla reasoned with her, Lissy began to see why they did it.
She even tentatively began to help, using her sweet, naïve appearance to gain the trust of others.
Lissy Today
When one of Colony 22’s crusades found the ragtag pack of cannibals, most escaped. Not Lissy. She hadn’t run fast enough, and was questioned. Dragged back to the Colony and growing further away from Orla, the manipulative blanket that had been wound tight around her, loosened. It was obvious that she wasn’t a threat to anyone when the reality of the past four years of her life became apparent to her, and she sobbed for two weeks at how cruel she had been, and how easy to fool, how stupid.
There was talk of putting her on high security due to her tangles with looters and cannibalism, but in the end they decided she meant no harm. The shock had in fact driven her to declare that she was a vegetarian, making her something of a nuisance to those on kitchen duty as she refused meals. When it comes to the Games, she can also be… a nuisance. She’s petrified of hurting someone, and despite the fact that her tiny stature makes her unlikely to cause any harm, she regularly tries to refuse to participate in the Games.
Lissy is still as gentle as a breeze, but her experiences have left her paranoid and distrustful. She had never considered herself naïve, but now she has a deep distrust of those with telepathy, and doesn’t want to get too close to anyone. A girl with as much love to share as Lissy is an easy target, and she’s rapidly coming to terms with that.
Over the past year or so, Lissy has grown quite close with her roommates, Annie, Mira and Maisie. All very close in age, they have formed a rather strong bond, and are pretty much inseparable. They (sort of) jokingly call themselves the ‘CalGals’ and all bringing something a little different to the group, they balance each other out nicely and try to look out for each other in their own unique ways.
As the only one of the four of them who’s Uninfected, Lissy has grown quite protective of them. She may not be Infected (which sometimes leaves her feeling a little left out) but she would do anything to protect her friends, because they have so protected her, and they have become her family. They’ve also made her realize just how alone she was while she was with the Clan in the wastes. Those had not been friends. Orla had never been her friend, and that has never been as clear as it now, that she has people who really matter in her life.

drunk on dreams | lissy & annie
@lissy-mccall
[There’s something really invigorating about the feeling of physical exhaustion that comes from doing labour. It had been a fun afternoon helping to build the greenhouse, which isn’t something Annie had ever thought she’d feel -- but she’d been with Mira so they’d talked loads, and it was tentatively sunny, and Annie had slept, so she just felt happy. She’d noticed that morning that Lissy was distinctly not feeling happy.
None of them were super experienced with hangovers, so although Annie had left the party early and didn’t really know what had happened in the end, she assumed Lissy just needed to sleep it off. But as she came into the Calyset common room, she saw Lissy curled up on one of the sofas looking pale and miserable.]
Hey. [Annie’s voice is always muted, but she’s particularly careful to keep it down now. She sits beside Lissy, pulling her legs up and hugging them with her chin resting on her knees.] Are you okay? We can go to our room if you want to lie down, and we can close the curtains and stuff. [She’s heard headaches are a big part of hangovers, so lying in a dark room seems sensible. Annie hates seeing her friends under the weather, and she wants to be able to help in some way.]

hell at your doorstep || maisie & lissy
@lissy-mccall
[When Maisie wakes up, she’s expecting, as usual, to be the first one awake in the Calyset dorm. (Well, aside from Annie, who probably shouldn’t count if she hadn’t actually gone to bed the night before.) It’s the weekend, which means they can actually sleep in, something that most of her roommates take advantage of. But as Maisie doesn’t need a whole lot of sleep, she’s usually the first one awake. Not today, though, because Lissy is already up.] Hey sunshine. You’re up early. [Maisie yawns, stretching.] I was thinking about taking a walk, you want to join me?
[The two girls head out to her favorite trail, talking about everything from their chore routine to the newest gossip regarding the citizens of Colony 22. True to her promise, none of it concerns Maisie’s romantic relationships (or lack thereof), because Maisie is on a break from men. This, chatting with her friends, this makes her plenty happy. Singing to herself when no one is watching, visiting the horses, sketching the people of the Colony, it all makes her happy, which means she doesn’t need a man to make her happy.
That doesn’t mean the subject doesn’t interest her.] Hey look. There goes that guy Mira likes. Charlie. What’s up with them, anyway? Has anything new happened?

Dave York wasn’t someone who believed in second chances. It came with the line of work he was doing. Had been doing. Sighing, he looked at the small house in front of him. He had been sitting in his car for almost 15 minutes, his heart too heavy to open the door, get out of the car and walk over to the door where she would be, still not remembering any moment they had shared.
It was Lissy’s third birthday.
Of course he was invited, the paternity test had confirmed that shortly after their run in at the park. And even though she couldn’t remember him, she would never deny Lissy having a father in her life. Many things had changed in the 7 months since the park.
Dave had quit his job, having made enough money to last three lifetimes. She had moved to town, so Dave would be able to build a relationship with his daughter. Lissy was the sweetest little girl, warming up to him within weeks. The first time she called him Daddy would be something he would forever remember.
They were in the park, him, Lissy and her mother, after having lunch and there were three pigeons chasing Lissy.
“Save me Daddddyyyyyy,” she had cried, jumping into his arms. He had laughed, hugged her close to save her from the pigeons, hiding the emotions behind his mask.
But she was getting better at reading him.
While Lissy was well on her way to being a Daddy's girl it was her mother that seemed to have a hard time letting Dave in. Of course, in a perfect world she would have remembered their whole life together before the accident in the moment in the park. But they weren’t living in a perfect world. And she definitely didn’t remember anything about him. It was hard, looking at the woman he still loved and seeing that she didn’t feel the same way. He had sent Carol a huge bouquet of flowers a month after the park with an apology for not having been a better husband in the past.
It was hard for Dave. Especially when he noticed patterns in her behavior that were just so much her.
She still couldn’t cook, but she tried.
“I do have a mouth more to feed, so I was thinking about taking some cooking classes,” she had said in one of their sessions. Oh yeah. They were going to therapy together every week. Dave thought it would help her remember, but in the end, after 6 months of nothing, he was questioning why he was going.
Because you love her, he thought to himself.
Today would be hard. Not only because of the birthday but because she wanted to introduce Dave to the man she had been dating for a month now. It truly was over and he somehow had to make his peace with it. At least he had Lissy to look forward to.
“Hey Dave,” she smiled as she opened the door. He smiled back, his smile not reaching his eyes. She noticed this happened more often in the last weeks.
“Hi. Am I late?”
“No. Just in time. We’re gonna cut the cake in a couple of minutes,” she stepped to the side, letting the man in. Spending time with Dave was making her feel so confused every time, yet she found herself wanting to see him more lately. Getting used to finding out so many things about her past has been overwhelming to say the least. She could see the longing in his eyes every time he looked at her in the beginning. Yet lately he seemed to shut himself off, wearing a mask to hide behind. She couldn’t blame him. If they really loved each other like he explained to her in therapy, she would die a thousand deaths spending time with him, when it was him who couldn’t remember her.
“I hope she likes her present,” Dave said, shrugging his coat off.
“She’s gonna love it. You could gift her some old socks, and she would love them,” she smiled and Dave smiled back.
“I can’t stay long, but I would love to take her this weekend,” Dave said.
“The whole weekend?” she asked. She had never spent more than a day parted from her since she was born. Dave sighed.
“We can talk about it later…”
“No, help me get out the cake and we can talk,” she said walking through the house with him following her. He could hear music from the living room and laughter and he had to smile. At least his daughter was happy with her friends.
“Talk,” she said and he sighed.
“I can’t do this anymore. I want to spend time with Lissy but I need a break…” he shook his head and she turned around.
“You need a break from me?” she asked quietly without judgment. She knew she was hurting him. And she wanted everything but to hurt the man in front of her. She could see why she fell in love with him. The old her. He was a strong and passionate man who always put his family first. There was something dangerous in his eyes that seemed to make her pulse quicken every time he let it spark through. He knew how she drank her coffee and he always warmed her hands, that seemed to be always cold, stating that they had always been like that. She spent nights awake in her big and lonely bed, trying to make herself remember him. She wanted nothing more than that. To give her and him a happily ever after but she just couldn’t. And it was starting to hurt them both.
“I don’t want to I just… If we wanna do this, co-parenting, I need to find a way to live with the feelings I still have for you. And I think for that it’s best if we take a little break.”
She only nodded, sucking her bottom lip in. Why was this hurting her so much?
“You’re dating and you deserve to be happy, but so do I,” he added stepping closer towards her.
“I know,” she whispered, crossing her arm as if she was hugging herself.
“I wish I could just flip a switch and everything would be like back then…”
“I’m not dating, I only told you that in hopes that this would make you move on,” she confessed and Dave took a deep breath, ignoring the wave of relief that flooded through his body.
“Will you let me take you out to dinner?” he asked.
“Like on a date?” she asked.
“It doesn’t have to be, but yeah. Like on a date.”
He was almost as touching her now, his chest against hers.
“But you said you wanted a break,” she whispered.
“It’s a break so I can fall out of love with you, or a date so you can start to fall back in love with me,” he said quietly and she found herself smiling softly.
“I’m not the same person you fell in love with, Dave. I may look like her on the outside, but….”
“I know. Just let me have one night. I’ll cook for you and we can talk. Without a therapist or Lissy around. Just us,” he smiled hopeful, his hand coming up to put a stray of hair behind her ear.
“Okay.”
She had never been to Dave’s apartment before. She knew that he was still living in the same place she used to live with him. She didn’t want to imagine the amount of heartbreak he went through ever since she disappeared. She still didn’t know the whole story about them. She only knew that they both met because they both had worked at the CIA. And she wanted to get answers today. There were some pieces of the puzzle that were her past, that didn’t make any sense to her. Maybe this was the reason she just couldn’t remember a thing.
She smelled something delicious as she made her way up the stairs, knocking on the apartment door. She was nervous. In all the time knowing each other since the park they never spend time alone.
The door flew open and she smiled seeing him barefoot, wearing jeans and a shirt.
“Hey,” he smiled, stepping to the side so she could walk in. She couldn’t stop letting her eyes wander through the big room that seemed to be hallway, dining room, living room and kitchen all at once. It seemed familiar. Dave only watched her as she slowly walked in, her fingers brushing over a bookshelf that held her books.
She jumped when she felt something rub over her feet, followed by a meow. A cat was sniffing at her feet, rubbing her soft body at her calves.
“That’s kitty. She’s… She’s your cat,” Dave explained. She looked at him with big eyes.
“I had a cat?” she leaned down to pick her up, a calmness washing over her, as the cat purred against her chest.
“You found her outside as a kitten and took her in. She’s a little over 6 years old now.”
“She’s a sweetheart,” she smiled, not letting go of the cat as she followed Dave.
“Yeah she grew on me after…” he shook his head, smiling softly before he turned from her.
“I hope you still like my paella. You used to love it,” he said.
“I love paella,” she said with a smile, leaning with her hand propped up on her hands on the kitchen island.
“It smells delicious. I can’t wait to taste it.”
“Wine?” he asked and she nodded. She watched him as he opened the bottle of wine and couldn’t help but let her eyes wander up his strong arms. When she looked into his eyes he just winked at her and she felt herself blush.
“Hungry?” he asked, handing her the glass of wine.
“Starving!” she answered.
“So we met at the CIA but I hated you at first?”
“I am a pretty big asshole to most people.”
“Must be your face. When you have this brooding look you look like you’re plotting murder,” she joked a while later, sitting on the sofa across from him. Kitty hadn’t left her side the whole evening. She was now sleeping peacefully in her leap.
Dave sighed.
“You wanted the truth. How we met. How we fell in love. How… How I thought you died and left…” he choked on his words, looking away from her. This would be hard.
“Dave… Did we kill people?” she asked out of the blue. Dave turned his head to look at her for a long time.
“Yes. Yes we did. And we were the best at it,” he added. She sucked her bottom lip in, nodding slowly. And so he told her. Every little thing. About the death of McCall and about how they took jobs outside the CIA making a name for themselves. He answered every single question she had.
“I should be scared of you and of the person I was but looking at you…” she breathed in deep, shaking her head.
“I feel safe with you. Like I’m finally where I’m supposed to be. I can’t describe it. I can see why I fell in love with you,” she smiled a little.
“This is a lot to take in. I had my suspicions about my past. There are pieces of things I remember but it’s not enough to understand them. And at this point I’m not sure if I want to remember. Though I have so many things to be thankful for from my old life…”
“Such as?” Dave asked.
“Meeting you? I wouldn’t have Lissy if it weren’t for you,” she whispered and Dave felt himself smile at her.
“I didn’t know you were pregnant. I wouldn’t have taken the job for us if I had known… I’m so sorry,” he closed his eyes, letting his head fall down. Her heart broke. Yes, she was the one who experienced the memory loss but he had all the memories. Carefully she pulled Kitty off her lap and closed the distance between herself and Dave. Taking his hands in hers, she felt him shake.
“It’s not your fault. Do you think I would have listened to you? It’s not your fault Dave. You hear me?” she squeezed his hand and felt him shudder. He let his head fall against her shoulder and she gasped, letting go of his hands to hug him against her. He was shaking in her arms as he silently cried against her shoulder.
“I’m pretty sure I didn’t know I was pregnant back then. I wish I could remember. We would have been so happy,” she smiled, letting her head fall against his.
“You are such a good Dad. I wish you would have been there when Lissy was a baby. But you’re here now. And we’re not going anywhere,” she promised, her heart full. He had stopped shaking at some point, yet couldn’t bring himself to look at her. He never wanted to let go. He felt her kiss his temple and he shuddered again. One of her hands pushed under his chin tilting his head up so he had to look at her.
“I may not remember being in love with you, but I think I am falling in love with you,” she whispered looking into his eyes. Dave stopped breathing, trying to register the words that had just left her lips. He just looked at her, taking her in before he leaned in, closing the distance between them, to finally kiss her. She gasped against his lips, her arms wrapping around his neck as she melted against him. This. This is what felt right. She never wanted to let go.
Resting with his forehead against hers he smiled.
“Promise me to never leave me again without saying goodbye,” he whispered and she smiled back.
“Never,” she vowed kissing him again.

[Everyone seems horribly anxious in light of the Colony’s new arrivals. Constantin isn’t quite so perturbed; it seems normal enough to him, for an organisation to want to send someone from HQ to make sure things are being run properly. Though his trust towards the NWRF is waning -- increasingly rapidly -- he still doesn’t see them as evil overlords as many others do.
But somehow all of the anxiety is contagious; it’s rubbing off on him and leaving him restless. He isn’t sure what to do with himself when Ana has to go to her therapy session, though that’s nothing new. He always feels adrift without her. In search of distraction, he goes to the library. He’s still a keen reader, though he struggles with books in English. He’s mostly been working his way through YA books, because the language is less frustrating. Today he’s picked up Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda -- the description on the back makes him think it might be pertinent to his thoughts lately.
The library is quiet, as it usually is, but there is one young woman poring over her studies. She lets out a huff of frustration as Constantin passes, and he glances down to see what’s got her so worked up -- and he smiles, because he understands. It’s a rare luxury these days, for Constantin to feel like he ‘gets’ something immediately. Pausing, he gently taps the question: is gravity a ‘push’ force or a ‘pull’ force?]
Ah, I think they try to trick you vith this question.
