This wasn't just a sporting event. That was supposed to be a family event. Local schools even closed so the kids could see the parade.
Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a Kansas City-area radio DJ, died after being shot at the Chiefs victory rally, according to a post shared by her employer, KKFI radio 90.1 FM.
“It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life,” the station shared on Facebook.
Police have not provided any details surrounding her death.
“Lisa was one of our programmers/DJs on Taste of Tejano. Like all our programmers, she was a volunteer who donated her time and talent to KKFI. Along with her co-producer/DJ Tommy Andrade, their show has brought a voice to the KC community that is missed in the mainstream media," Kelly Dougherty, the station's director of development and communications, said in an email to CNN.
“We are absolutely devastated at the loss of such an amazing person who gave so much to KKFI and the KC community," Dougherty added.
Lopez-Galvan's bio on the station's website said she thought music “is Iife and a source of happiness." She worked as a bilingual private DJ for over 15 years before becoming a co-host of Taste of Tejano in March of 2022.
A Missouri legislator who attended the Kansas City Chief’s Super Bowl celebration parade with his 5-year-old daughter told CNN that multiple family members of Lopez-Galvan were among those wounded.
This post has been updated to add the legislator's comment.

Travis Kelce Did a Feo
Travis Kelce did a feo (an ugly thing) right after the shooting at the parade. He went to a restaurant and continued his partying. He even took a picture with a police officer. Who cares that he was one of the first to react and give condolences to the shooting victims? His celebration was not stopped at all. In the meantime Patrick Mahomes with his wife visited he children wounded in the…

Exhibit A: Cops are worthless
Tumblr media
More than 800 police were on duty Wednesday - 600 KCPD cops and an additional 250 from outside cop shops - for the Chiefs Super Bowl win parade and rally at Union Station. Despite their heavy presence, they failed to stop a mass shooting.
One person, local KKFI radio DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, was killed. An additional 22 people were injured, with three still in critical condition. About half the victims are children.
It's believed that the shooting occurred because of a dispute between teenagers who missed each other at least 23 times, not because of terrorism or extremism.
In the wake of this mass shooting - during a run of ever-increasing gun violence (though other crimes are dropping) - Kansas City residents are demanding stricter gun laws. But Missouri state law doesn't allow cities to pass gun-related laws (to stop KC from doing so, specifically), and Missouri has famously lax gun laws.
Cops do almost nothing to protect citizens, and nothing to prevent crime.
They exist merely to punish perpetrators, which has very little effect on violence, especially when state law essentially allows anyone to possess whatever weapons they wish, at any age, regardless of gun safety education, stability, or maturity.

Kansas City Shooting: Donations Masterlist.
(PT: Kansas City Shooting: Donations Masterlist. End PT) Hey guys. I feel like with everything that happened in Kansas City, I feel like we could uplift those in need. And I'm sure some of you have also been wondering how you can help.
I'll be updating this as I find more donation pages. I know I said I wasn't gonna reblog or link donation pages anymore, however this is something close to home (Additionally, all fundraisers and donation pages have been checked for legitimacy). Children's Mercy. For those unfamiliar, Children's Mercy is a Kansas City-based Children's hospital. I have visited them once when I came down with a very bad respiratory infection and let me tell you they are absolutely amazing. After the shooting, 12 victims, 11 of them literal children, were sent to Children's Mercy (Speaking of, I am *very* happy to report that all the victims hospitalized at Children's Mercy are expected to recover), and many people have been wanting to donate to them. And honestly, after what they've done for me it makes sense that I link their donation page too.
Reyes' Family Fund This fundraiser has since reached their targeted goal, however they're still accepting donations and have also stated that additional/leftover funds with go towards the girls' college fund.
Elizabeth Lopez-Galvan Memorial.
Elizabeth "Lisa" Lopez-Galvan tragically lost her life in the shooting. Lisa was a very popular DJ in Kansas City and was the co-host of "Taste of Tejano", a Latin music program. The above link redirects to a GoFundMe for her memorial funds. The fundraiser has also reached it's targeted goal, but it is still accepting donations.
KC Strong (UPDATE: NO LONGER ACCEPTING DONATIONS)
A new charity that's intended to support the community and help the city and the victims of the shooting recover. If there's any other donations I should be aware of, please tell me and I'll add it! Helping One Family at a Time
This fundraiser was started by a store owner in Olathe to help support those affected by the shooting, including a family that was injured.
Kansas City Parade Victims Fund This fundraiser was started by a KC native on behalf of the United Way of Greater Kansas City, which is a social services organization.

I’m not the same anon but about TS and Ana (I’m brazilian) she only donated to Ana’s family and had them at the concert after people were getting mad and vocal at her not doing anything. She didn’t mention Ana’s name in her statement via instagram story and the Bigger Than the Whole Sky dedicatory was implicit, I have a friend who was there and Taylor didn’t even say a word she just let people assume it was it. It took her a whole week to donate the money meanwhile Ana’s mom was on several tv +
+ channels crying and asking for help because they could’t afford to transport Ana’s body back home, the fans had to raise the money themselves. This is coming from someone who is or was fan, as a brazilian this changed permanently how I see her so I just wanted to give you the all the info in case you didn’t know because no one outside Brazil seemed to be telling the whole story
i don't think that's acceptable, of course not.
however it feels important to mention, in spirit of the original ask, the person who died at the parade was also latina— her name is lisa lopez-galvan and hosted a radio show focused on tejano music.
hopefully taylor learned from past mistakes, but i have no idea what her thought process actually is and i don't condone her actions or inactions.

Taylor Swift Donates $100K to Kansas City Chiefs Parade Shooting Victim's Family
Photo: Facebook/Getty Images The family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the victim of the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl championship parade, received a $100,000 donation from Taylor Swift. On a GoFundMe website, two $50,000 contributions were made on Friday under the singer’s identity. Variety, a trade publication, said that Swift’s representative confirmed the donations. “Sending my…

Swift's Generosity
Taylor Swift shows her generosity as always a class act. She donated a $100,000 to the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan the woman killed in the Chief’s parade. As you recall on February 14 there was a shooting in the Kansas City Parade. Twenty two were wounded and one woman killed. Apparently the shooting happened over a dispute. Taylor Swift saw there was a fund raising page for Lisa Lopez-Galvan…

The rotten core of gun violence in America
As I was leaving this year’s Super Bowl parade in Kansas City, I debated whether to attend the rally afterward. Because I had gone to the rally last year, I stopped by my house to see my mom and watch the parade coverage on the local news.
In the hours that followed, I watched in numbed horror as a space of joy and celebration, one I had just been a part of, devolved into panicked chaos. Multiple people exchanged gunfire, wounding several and killing Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local mother and DJ.
I received multiple messages from friends asking if I was safe and alive. I want to say I couldn’t have ever fathomed receiving such messages, but I had fully anticipated it to happen at some point in my life. I expect to receive more at some point in the future.
The community conversations that followed served as the next iteration of the same tired conversation about this crisis we have been having for years. Some blamed it on the guns and their defenders; others blamed it on gangs and stupid choices; others still blamed it on mental illness, and so on.
If we’re still having these same conversations, this problem isn’t reducible to any one combination of these things. If we are to make progress on gun violence in this country, we need to interrogate the core of this crisis.
America has a disturbing fixation on guns. We have nearly 400 million of them in civilian hands alone – more than one firearm per person in America.
What many fail to consider is that, historically, as with many punitive laws, gun control legislation has been disproportionately applied to Black people and Black communities.
Still, we do have a profoundly bizarre attachment to our weapons. This attachment is unique amongst our economic peers and supported by our powerful gun lobby, preventing even the most basic regulations — but only to the extent that it affects white people.

Others argue that guns don’t kill without someone there to pull the trigger.
There are roughly 21,000 gun-related homicides annually as of 2021, showing petty gun crime, even among registered firearm owners, kills.
The solution isn’t more punitiveness. That created this problem in the first place.
Rhetoric about gangs and gang violence is often an excuse to warehouse Black people in prisons rather than to protect people in communities with significant gun violence.
After all, there are plenty of legitimate reasons someone may want to acquire a gun.
e. Dig out the rotten core and end our perpetual massacre.
