Lisa Frank Violet and Velvet Trapper Keeper and Folder
1990s
Found on Ebay, user carebearboo2013
I love seeing all these old school supplies I had. I was so big into back to school shopping and we had so much cool shit back when I was in school. My family also had 3 Spring Spaniels during my childhood (rescued all 3) so I wanted everything to be Springers lol

466. Back to school with old periodicals
Oh hey, yeah I've been gone for nearly the whole month of August.
I cut my left index finger wiiiide open at my job (I was repackaging Road to Avalonea dvds, the Xacto knife slipped) so I wasn't in the mood to type when I came home from work, you know?
The locker backpacks! I had the original, the Wiz, the $20 one in second grade. The backpack didn't last long, it started falling apart at the seams. It was various neon colors.
This was in a Teen magazine in 1992, I believe. a TEEN magazine. She looks like someone's mom who just dropped her kids off at the bus stop.
I'm so sad that these are microfiche copies so we can't see them in full color. I found some Mead Super Shades examples from eBay:
(eBay user themotherroad)
(eBay user rmcm59) -- turquoise! filler paper! I'm sure that wasn't allowed in most schools.
Those Grip Stix pencils! I had those in the first grade and thought that they would help me improve my handwriting. They did not.
Because I too, brought my sassaby cosmetics case to school on the first day.
Back when times were tough like in 2012 when I couldn't find work, I abused the Sun In.
Zillions was a magazine that my house received briefly when I was 11 years old. It was a kid's version of Consumer Reports. When I saw this cover feature about a gorilla testing binders, I really thought someone dressed in a gorilla suit threw around some binders in the Zillions office. I wish. (I think in the era of TikTok they would have today) No, they put the binders through something similar to a rock tumbler:
By the time I was in high school in the late 90s, we didn't have homeroom. Homeroom was just, the first class of the day.
I didn't go to a "real" college until my junior year, and I didn't gain weight from the dining hall, I gained weight because I constantly went to this nice grocery store we had about a mile away, Martin's. I came from a tiny town where you had to drive nearly an hour to get to a big grocery store, so Martin's was a big deal for me. I didn't know that colleges served sushi in 1988. Apparently sushi just became a weekday thing at my college in the last couple of years.
I just saw on TikTok last night someone running across these original Lisa Frank folders from the late 80s/early 90s at a thrift store. Lemmie try to find it. Here it is.
Oh these wireless neatbooks were the worst to keep as a notebook to take notes in, but great to just carry around loose leaf paper for assignments without the bulk of a binder.
You know, I know, we all know this backpack would only last about a month.
yes, Spuds McKenzie the dog from the Bud Light Beer commercials was a hot item for back to school.

Note: These are alll... A) For the characters lmao and B) Mainly jokes and just like- based off vibe these are in no way serious
Dream

+ Buys the majority of his clothing from Walmart and Ross
Sapnap
+ Genuinely enjoys Arby’s and Chili’s food
+ Definitely had a cowboy phase as a child
George
+ Probably is allergic to shellfish but eats it anyway because he like the taste- then gets confused over why he has hives
+ Owns at least a few items of ironic Peppa Pig merch (probably a backpack or a mug or something)
Quackity
+ Has an irrational hatred of hamsters and an irrational adoration for chinchillas
+ Has Dr. Doofenshmirtz monologues memorized and will recite Phinease and Ferb lines when bored
Tommyinnit
+ Went through a major Bruno Mars phase as a child
+ Has probably dabbled in stage magic and knows how to do basic card tricks
Tubbo
+ Will drink honey straight from the container if left alone for too long
+ Collects Webkinz and/or Beanie Babies
Badboyhalo
+ Likes to listen to music when doing mundane tasks but keeps the volume up way too loud
+ Unironically likes Lisa Frank based things and owns one of those rainbow dog folders to keep important documents in
Skeppy
+ Probably a good student when he applies himself but half the time he just doesn’t focus
+ Gives off “will bully Freshman” energy but in reality he would be the type to befriend new students and be actually pretty nice
Schlatt
+ Can and will drink any form of alcohol- including antiseptic rubbing alcohol if not stopped
+ The type to buy a pinata and fill it with non-candy items (like bagels) just to fuck with people
Wilbur
+ The type of person to go outside in the freezing cold in shorts and a tank top and go outside in the sweltering hot in a black hoodie and jeans.
+ Cries while listening to the Shrek 2 soundtrack sometimes
Eret
+ Special talent is making origami- half the time he doesn’t even need a tutorial he just can figure it out
+ Went through both a pirate Captain Hook phase and a fairy Tinkerbell phase as a child (probably more a pirate kid though tbh)
Technoblade
+ Favourite video game is Stardew Valley
+ Hates Club Penguin, much prefers Animal Jam
Connoreatspants
+ Either dropped out of college after one year or is double majoring like engineering and accounting there is no middle ground
+ Will cry after eating spicy food- regardless of the actual spice level
Fundy
+ Obsessed with games involving counting- like the guess how many beans in the jar kind of counting games

+ Probably liked Disney Channel original movies as a child more than she cared to admit
Captain Puffy
+ Eats the foil on chocolate easter bunnies by accident a lot
+ Only knows how to play Chopsticks, Heart and Soul, and Kumbaya on the piano but will play them whenever given the opportunity

An ode to the delightfully unhinged Lisa Frank Facebook page
More than a year ago, I made the impulsive decision to delete the Facebook app from my phone.
Friends, it's been great! I like my iPhone better when there's like 80 percent less autoplay food video to stare at.
SEE ALSO: I deleted Facebook off my phone and you should too
But I'm no internet purist. Deleting the app from my phone was a simple, low-lift solution to limiting my Facebook use while not seated at a computer. Facebook on desktop, though, is still my weakness, due in large part to my devotion to one of the weirdest branded pages on the internet: the official Lisa Frank Facebook page.
Why do I, an adult, follow the brand page for a company that sells rainbow cheetah print bedsheets and combination sticker/activity books? It's leftover from a childhood when I, like many Lisa Frank acolytes born in the 1990s, spent much of the school day toting my homework around in folders adorned with paintings of purple kittens sitting on rainbows.
I had the gleaming Lisa Frank stickers, I had the neon-colored Lisa Frank pencils, I had the Lisa Frank pencil cases in which one stores one's many neon-colored Lisa Frank pencils. It was wonderful, and I am eternally grateful to my patient parents and our September school supply runs.
As its young clientele has aged, the company's made an effort to keep up with them. In 2017, it launched a limited beauty collection and a line of clothes, including adult-size pajamas at Target and t-shirts at – where else – Hot Topic, the go-to source for ironic nostalgia.
But nowhere is this effort more apparent than on Facebook, where every Lisa Frank post is the bizarro version of a phrase you'd see printed on a mug abandoned in your office kitchen: "If I won the award for laziness, I would send somebody to pick it up for me"; "COFFEE is the most important meal of the day!"
Another favorite topic on the Lisa Frank page: The upcoming weekend.
In another recent example, a smiling pig, with likely zero obligations thinks to itself: "You thinking what I'm thinking? Tomorrow's Friday!"
There's one that features a rainbow unicorn flying across a rainbow sky streaked with, you guessed it, like 30 rainbows.
"Why is MONDAY so far from FRIDAY and FRIDAY so near to MONDAY!" it screams.
But the best posts to the Lisa Frank Facebook page are the ones that make...truly no sense. "PILATES?!" shouts a polar bear wearing winged eyeliner. "I thought you said PIE & LATTES." What a fun, inexplicable mix up!
Or my personal favorite: "All I want in life is to be able to text my dog!"
I also want this, Lisa. Thank you for articulating that very specific desire.
The Lisa Frank Facebook commenters know these sugar-coated bumper sticker phrases are the company's sometimes puzzling attempt to maintain a connection to its once young customers.
"Okay, there is no way Lisa Frank is made for kids. This totally has to be targeted for our age," one commenter writes. "I def was not drinking coffee when I was putting stickers in my Lisa Frank Sticker Book," another responded.
But if Lisa Frank's 1.25 million followers are any indication, neon dolphins and hot pink kittens still speak to us on some level.
Personally, I'll accept this colorful wisdom over whatever DIY deep-fried video the algorithm thinks I'd enjoy instead.
WATCH: This is why Shaq is a self-proclaimed 'geek'
