How to Properly Clean FPV LiPo Batteries
Before you begin cleaning and maintaining your FPV LiPo batteries, it's important to assess the age of each battery. If you're new to FPV drone maintenance, this step is crucial. LiPo batteries degrade over time, causing a decline in their ability to discharge rapidly. It's essential to differentiate between new and used packs, as they have different purposes. Older packs are suitable for practice, while newer packs should be reserved for racing to maximize performance.
The next step involves checking the balance of each cell in your battery packs using either your charger or a LiPo battery meter. If any cells are found to be out of balance, it's necessary to use your charger to balance the battery pack. However, if the battery consistently falls out of balance, it may be best to consider discarding it.
Additionally, each battery possesses its own internal resistance, which increases with every use. As a battery discharges, one with high internal resistance loses more energy in the form of heat rather than efficiently recharging your drone. Consequently, batteries with high internal resistance tend to heat up more quickly and have a reduced flight range. To assess the internal resistance of your battery, use a battery tester. If the internal resistance becomes too high for the battery to function effectively, it's advisable to replace the LiPo.

Lithium Ion vs Lithium Polymer Batteries: Which One Should You Choose?
If you’re in the market for a new device or gadget, one of the most important things to consider is the battery. After all, no matter how advanced your gadget is, it won’t be of much use if the battery life is poor. But with so many types of batteries available, it can be hard to know which one is right for you. In this post, we’ll be discussing the differences between two popular types of batteries: lithium ion and lithium polymer.
What are Lithium Ion Batteries?
Lithium ion batteries are the most common type of battery found in modern devices like smartphones, laptops, and tablets. They are made up of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte solution that allows ions to move between the electrodes. When the battery is charged, lithium ions move from the positive electrode to the negative electrode. When the battery is used, the ions move back to the positive electrode, creating a flow of electrons that can power your device.
What are Lithium Polymer Batteries?
Lithium polymer batteries are a newer type of battery that have become more popular in recent years. Unlike lithium ion batteries, which use a liquid electrolyte solution, lithium polymer batteries use a solid polymer electrolyte. This allows them to be shaped in a variety of ways, making them a popular choice for devices like smartwatches and other wearables.
Differences between Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer Batteries
Now that we know what each type of battery is, let’s take a look at some of the key differences between lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries.
Shape and Size Lithium polymer batteries are more flexible in terms of shape and size than lithium ion batteries. This means they can be made to fit into small spaces, making them ideal for wearable devices like smartwatches.
Capacity Lithium ion batteries typically have a higher energy density than lithium polymer batteries, which means they can store more energy in a smaller space. This makes them a popular choice for devices like laptops and smartphones.
Safety Both lithium ion and lithium polymer batteries can be dangerous if they are not handled properly. However, lithium polymer batteries are generally considered to be safer than lithium ion batteries, as they are less likely to leak or catch fire.
Cost Lithium polymer batteries are generally more expensive than lithium ion batteries. This is because they are still a relatively new technology, and the manufacturing process is more complex.

A lipo charger with a buck built-in
We often have projects that want to run off a lipo, but you need an external regulator to handle the conversion from 3.7~4.2V down to 3.3V. This little board will do the job for you: it has USB Type C power and a 500mA charger chip for standard 1-cell poly/liion cells. a TLV62569 3.3V buck converter will give you a nice 3.3V output
at up to 1A max without worrying about heat or LDO power lossage. When the USB is plugged in, the power into the buck will auto-switch to it so your battery doesn't cycle unnecessarily.

I want to add: if you are putting something with a battery in storage (or just not going to use a battery for awhile), you want it to be around 50% charge. That is the most comfortable place for a lithium-ion battery to be because the battery has two sides: the cathode (discharge) and anode side (charge). At 50%, the ions that move between the two sides and supply power are spread evenly. It'll be less likely (though not impossible) to have issues while in storage.
I have an old 3DS battery I haven't used in 8 or so years stored at about half charge and when I needed it again, it was in pristine condition and still lasted as long as it did when I got that 3DS. Meanwhile camera batteries that I left at full charge were beginning to swell and needed to be disposed of.
For extra safety, take the batteries out of your devices (if possible) and store them separately in something like a Lipo Safe bag (this is a fireproof bag designed for lithium-polymer batteries). Keeping your batteries in one place makes it easier to check them once in awhile for swelling and dispose of them before any accidents can occur. You don't want to find a swollen battery when cleaning out your closet one day (← speaking from experience)
Also PLEASE do not store batteries in something airtight because at that point you are building a bomb.
#batteries are great but you gotta be careful with them#i store all of my batteries that aren't in active near-daily use in a lipo bag#along with any old devices where the battery can't be removed#it's monitored enough that nothing should happen but you should always be careful#i'm passionate about battery safety what can i say i have a secret fear my house will burn down while i'm gone

A Guide To Lightweight Lipo Batteries: Get Longer Flight Times
Traditionally, nickel-cadmium (NiCd) or nickel hybrid (NiMh) batteries were used to power drones, airplanes, and other unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs. Today, lithium-based batteries are taking over because they are much more energy-dense.
Lightweight lithium Black & Decker tool batteries are the go-to choice for anyone who wants high power and long run times. Though they are slightly more expensive, they deliver above and beyond traditional nickel-based batteries. Not convinced? Read on, the numbers don’t lie.
You’ll Get Longer Flight Times
Lightweight LiPo batteries are much more powerful and energy-dense than traditional nickel-based batteries due to their improved capacity. You’ll get significantly more airtime per charge by switching over. Nickel-based batteries usually have somewhere between 2,000mAh and 3,000 mAh of capacity in them. Though it’s hard to make a direct comparison because airplanes and drones have different size requirements for their Dremel drill batteries, the most popular lightweight LiPo battery clocks in at 1000mAh -5,000mAh, with some models even ranging as high as 30,000mAh.
With lightweight LiPo batteries, there’s at least double the amount of flight time compared to nickel-based varieties such as NiMH and NiCd. And because they are also much lighter and thinner, the weight of the cargo decreases on the motor, meaning that it has to work less to go further. This also improves your flight time.
The Lighter Weight Will Improve Your Speed
Lightweight LiPo batteries have a lightweight, meaning they can pack more of a punch and deliver greater bursts of speed as you accelerate, compared to nickel-based alternatives. Older, nickel-based batteries simply don’t have the punch many drones or airplane flyers are looking for.
If you have a 3,500V brushless motor, you’ll hit 3,500 rotations per minute in the motor per volt applied. Nickel-based batteries, such as the NiMH or NiCd irobot vacuum cleaner batteries typically discharge at 1.2 volts for most of their flight time, giving the user 4,200 RPM. But 2S lightweight LiPo batteries will run at around 25,900RPM. A 3S lightweight LiPo battery will run almost 10 times faster than NiMH, at a startling 38,850RPM.
It Will Also Improve Your Ability To Freestyle
We’ve discussed the capacity and voltage and how they affect flight times and speed, respectively, but let’s get into how they come together. Lightweight LiPo batteries have a better discharge rating, which is loosely defined as the maximum amount of load you can safely put on a battery.
Discharge rates are dependent on the capacity of the tool battery. Because lightweight LiPo batteries have higher capacities, their discharge rates are higher. This improves the flying experience in its burst discharge when you’re accelerating or making complex maneuvers, and in its continuous discharge, such as when you’re zipping down a straightway. There’s some debate about which type of discharge is most important, but overall, lightweight LiPo batteries give you an upgrade in all the ways that count.

really wish Ni-Cad rechagable batteries had become the popular ones instead of Li-Po. They are significantly more stable and less likely to cause a fire even when damaged. They also last longer. But everyone designs for the higher output of the Li-Po instead, so now i have to constantly worry about spicy pillows in nearly every electronic i own these days.
At least I found Ni-Cad rechargable AA batteries.

What are the advantages of Lithium Polymer Batteries for common users?
In the same way that liquid lithium-ion battery employs the same technology, so do lithium polymer battery. To rephrase, both the anode and the cathode are identical. The only real distinction is that these devices employ gel electrolytes and aluminium plastic film. As a result, the energy density of these power packs is higher while they are thinner and lighter. This article will discuss 10 benefits of these energy packs. Check out why in the following paragraphs:
1. High Energy Density
Lithium-polymer batteries such as Lithium polymer battery 3.7v are 50% lighter than their nickel-hydride or nickel-cadmium counterparts. However, they are both equally good options because of their similar energy density.
2. Slim-trim Design
The positive and negative electrodes in a lithium-ion battery are located in a unique casing. Moreover, batteries can't be made any thinner than 3.6mm due to technical constraints. However, polymer cells are not constrained in this way. As a result, the thickness of such structures can be less than 1 mm.
3. Low Internal Resistance
Polymer batteries, in contrast to their liquid counterparts, have a lower internal resistance. As a result, these batteries can help your applications remain in standby mode for longer. This is yet another significant benefit of these systems.
4. Customizable Shape
The thickness of polymer batteries can be altered to meet consumer demand. In the case of certain smartphones, for instance, developers may need batteries that are thinner. Because of this, you can make the most of the space you have and still have a reliable backup for as long as you need it.
5. High Rate of Charging and Discharging
These devices can be fully charged in under two hours with the appropriate charger. In contrast to liquid electrolytes, colloidal electrolytes used in polymer batteries maintain a consistent discharge rate.
6. High Voltage
If you connect three nickel-hydride or nickel-cadmium cells in series, you get the same voltage as a single lithium-polymer cell, which operates at a steady 3.7v.
7. High Safety and Performance
These batteries' protective case is made of aluminium plastic. However, the liquid-lithium variety have a metal casing. Despite being bent and twisted, the battery will continue to function thanks to the packaging's flexibility.
8. Long Cycle Life
A lithium polymer battery can typically be charged and discharged over 500 times before showing signs of wear and tear. Therefore, if you choose these workhorses, you can anticipate a long cycle life.
9. No Pollution
Further, unlike other battery types, lithium-polymer cells don't incorporate any potentially dangerous metals into their construction. Consequently, in contrast to other types of units, they don't contribute to environmental degradation.
10. No Memory Effect
Over time, nickel-cadmium batteries lose their ability to hold a charge. However, lithium-polymer batteries do not experience this issue. The term "memory effect" describes this phenomenon. The many benefits of these batteries are helping to increase their market share over time.
Such batteries also find applications in portable electronic devices like laptops and power tools.
