“I can’t believe I missed their first steps!”

“I can’t believe I missed their first steps!” Leo complained over the phone to you and he genuinely sounded upset that he had missed his son's first-ever steps. Obviously he knew that this would be a possibility considering that he travels a bit around France throughout the whole season and then on top of that he has to travel around Europe for the European Tournaments so there are times when he is not home for a couple of days so he was bound to miss something yet he was still upset. All he wanted was to not miss one of your baby’s firsts but unfortunately it didn’t work that way. When you sent him the video he couldn’t help but smile to himself because through the screen he was seeing his son take some wobbly steps. His first steps.

“It’s why I recorded them for you plus you will be back in a couple of hours and you can see it then,” You tried to reassure him but as you finished speaking you realised how fruitless it was. Also, your words sounded a bit condescending rather than reassuring. You were wondering whether or not it was a good idea to record his first steps and actually send them to Leo. Maybe you should’ve recorded them and not sent them to him. You really wanted his first steps caught on camera and thought that it would be nice to send them to Lionel but now you understand his disappointment about missing them you feel bad. Maybe you should’ve allowed Lionel to see them when he gets back and act like it was the first time you saw them. It’s too late now anyway.

“Yeah, I guess. Just disappointed that I missed them. I’ve got to go now anyway,” Lionel told you.

“Okay, we’ll see you when you get back. I love you,” You replied softly.

“I love you too,” he said before hanging up so he could finish doing whatever he needed to before coming home. All you could do was sigh once the phone got disconnected and put that away before finding ways to entertain your son for the next couple of hours whilst you wait for Lionel to come back. Thankfully it’s your son's naptime soon so that should at least pass a bit of the time.

A couple of hours later when your son had just woken up from his nap you heard the front door open and you knew that Lionel was finally back. Well you hoped that it was Lionel or else a random stranger has just made their way into your home and you are nearly certain that you did lock the door. Your son obviously knew that Lionel was back too and he instantly perked up and started to wiggle to get off of your lap to go to his papa. Knowing that he wouldn’t be able to walk the whole way you decided to carry him to the end of the corridor before putting him down so he could walk the final steps. When you were at the end of the corridor Lionel instantly noticed the two of you yet no words were exchanged. All he did was kneel down to the height of your son and held his arms out so your son would hopefully walk into them.

No movement. Your son made no movement whatsoever towards his papa just staring between you and him. You could see that he wanted to move but didn’t know how. He had only just started taking steps without assistance so maybe that was why he was slightly hesitant and didn’t know how to step. Maybe he just needed a little bit of encouragement.

“Come to Papa,” Leo spoke out and that seemed to be the encouragement that your son needed because as soon as Lionel said those words your son took a shaky step towards him. Throughout the whole ordeal you didn’t even watch your son take the steps since you had seen it earlier and instead you watched Lionel’s face. The way his face lit up when your son took the steps towards him was precious. His face lit up more than it did when he won the treble or sextuple for Barcelona or when he FINALLY won the Copa America with Argentina. His first major international trophy. His face was brighter than when he won the World Cup. The freaking World Cup. Your son walking looked to be one of his proudest achievements. It was sweet, maybe a bit over dramatic since winning the World Cup and however many Ballon D’Ors is special, but nonetheless still sweet.

“Papa,” Those words knocked you out of your thoughts and you turned your attention away from Lionel’s face and towards your son who was now nestled in his arms obviously walking at least son of that distance, the same son who had just said that one word. His first proper word. His first proper word that was understandable and made actual sense in the context. Usually he just babbles and now words can be made out. Yes it’s probably a bit late to be saying some form of words (you were looking for a speech therapist just in case) but he must just take after Lionel like that and just say very little to people. Also, being raised in a bilingual household probably doesn’t help the matter either because he may get a little confused. Your son is just naturally quiet, a lot like Lionel. Quiet and doesn’t speak any words at all and he doesn’t really babble to anyone other than you or Lionel so now that he has finally spoken his first word shocked you both. You and Lionel were just staring at one another stunned in silence.

“What was that Nene?” You questioned your son to see if he would say it again. He turned his attention to you and stared at you with those wide brown eyes which reminds you so much of Lionel. He literally is a mini Leo.

“P-P-Pa-Papa,” Your son repeated looking right at Lionel.

“Yeah that’s Papa, Nene,” You managed to get out as your son fell back into Lionel’s arms not wanting to let him go for a minute. He is always like this when Lionel gets back from a night or two away. So clingy and cuddly but he’s never said the word papa or even attempted to say it but just after he took his first steps which Lionel missed he said his first word right to him.

“He just-” Lionel attempted to say, struggling to find the exact words.

“Yeah,” You interrupted slightly in disbelief but slowly the shock left your body and a huge smile plastered itself over your face. So many firsts for your son and in such a short time too. It was a shock but also incredible. It was a mix of emotions. Not like your son cared though he was just happy his papa was back.

“I may have missed his first steps but at least I was here for his first proper words,” Lionel spoke out loud, cuddling your son even closer who seemed to be really happy just nestled into his arms. Your son adores cuddles and just being close to you and Lionel so it is no wonder that he was so comfortable just staying there with Lionel whilst the two of you had a minor freakout over everything. Over the fact your son was growing up.

“Especially because it was papa,” You added and he just nodded at you. Some people would be mad that their baby says papa before mama considering everything that the mother does especially carrying the baby for 9 months but for you it didn’t matter. If anything you loved the fact that his first word was papa and said it right to Lionel especially since he was feeling so down about missing his son’s first steps. It was perfect.

“Our Nene is growing up,” Was all Lionel said again as your son pulled away from Lionel and started pointing to a toy showing Leo that he wanted to play. All you could do was nod your head getting really emotional over the thought of your son growing up way too fast right in front of you. It feels like it was only last week that you gave birth to him and now he’s taking his first steps and saying his first words. Next he’ll be walking fully on his own, speaking in sentences and learning to use the potty. Time moves quickly with children and you don’t want to miss a second of your child growing up especially considering Lionel is going to miss stuff because of his work and travelling. At that thought you followed Lionel and your son into the living room so the three of you could spend time as a family.

The Verstappen Kids

Just some little things for my 'Our Long Road' AU about Max and Juliette's four lovely and beloved children. Collectively called 'The Cubs', and the Verstappen family are labelled as 'The Royal Family of F1'.

Emilian Victor Verstappen

Born in November 9th 2024 in Geneva, Switzerland to Max and Juliette Verstappen.

Older Twin brother to Estelle.

Born six days after their dad wins his fourth championship.

Grows up with a passion for football, being a PSV Eindhoven supporter like his father.

He goes into football academies as a kid, and proves to be the best of his class.

Models his football game style off of Lionel Messi and Julian Alvarez.

Also loves music, playing guitar as a way to relax.

His parents' little prince, his father's shadow as a kid, but seeks his mom out for advice and comfort.

Ends up playing for PSV Eindhoven as a forward, wearing the number 33 for his dad. A number he also wears for the Dutch National Team.

Ends up dating Alex and Lily's eldest daughter, Violet Albon.

A model student at school in Geneva, particularly excelling at History, Maths, Languages, and Geography.

Big into video games just like his dad, and games with his cousins and siblings whenever he's able.

The protector of the quartet, as the oldest by five minutes, he takes his job as a big brother very seriously.

Has a very strong bond with his twin sister, and is never far from her as a kid.

Inherits her mother's love for figure skating, falling in love with the elegance and beauty of the sport right away.

Models her skating after Kim Yuna instead of the Russian girls.

Takes to the ice at the age of five, and is a natural at figure skating.

Estelle also learns how to knit and crochet, and uses it as a way to unwind after training.

Her mother's little princess, but has her dad wrapped around her finger.

Represents the Netherlands for figure skating, but always keeps both flags in her skating bag.

A big reader, known to finish a book in a couple of days. Excels at English, History, Art, and Political Science at school.

Estelle spends most of her time riding her bike or practicing ballet when she's not skating.

Where Emilian is the protector, Estelle is the nurturer, Casper and Annika going to her when they need emotional support.

Is especially close with her twin brother, Emilian is her number one confidant in life.

Becomes especially known for her free skate routines as a figure skater, and works hard on making her short programs just as good.

Inherits her mother's intuition and ability to read people, something her siblings always take seriously.

Keeps her childhood Miffy plush toy on her at all times during skating competitions.

Meets and falls in love with Emilian's Eindhoven teammate - Javier Sanchez, one third of the team's attacking trio.

Works in a wedding dress shop to fund herself up the ranks in the skating world.

Loves going to races as a kid, but more for the sake of seeing her many uncles and aunts (and eventually cousins) than anything else, but she never misses a race when Casper is racing.

Born in August 18th 2028 in Geneva, Switzerland to Max and Juliette Verstappen.

The first singleton child of the family.

Born the year Max moves to WEC.

Is the lone one of the cubs to go into race driving. Spending two seasons in F1 driving for Red Bull before going into WEC - driving for Porsche. Using the number 66 in F1.

As a driver, Casper is most compared to his dad, uncle, and to Sebastian Vettel - one of his other mentors.

Max is overjoyed to put his second son into Karting, and Casper excels right away.

An avid cook from an early age, often cooks for the cubs when their parents are away, and helps them in the kitchen.

Incredibly close to both of his parents, and to his uncle Charles - who he closely resembles.

Unlike the twins, Casper races under a Monegasque license, to honour both his mother and uncles.

The family prankster, teaming up with his cousin Jules to prank the other grid kids and their parents.

Often butts heads with his older brother over things, but the two love each other very much.

A huge engineering nerd, with a love of all kinds of vehicle. And goes into Sim Racing just like his father.

Has a bull on his racing helmet, as well as the names of his parents and siblings.

Nicknames: Cas, Young Bull, The Dominator.

Builds up a friendly rivalry with his cousin Jules Leclerc of Ferrari in F1 and drives with Mick's eldest son Michael Jr in WEC.

Casper and Michael Jr become known as 'The Two Headed Beast' in WEC, their duo becoming a trio with Fabian Vettel a bit later on when Fabian moves to WEC himself.

Casper is thoughtful, intelligent, and is a deep thinker who always seeks practical solutions to problems.

He is the lone one of his siblings to inherit his mother's gluten allergy. He also inherits her flawless memory.

When he's not racing or in the sim, Casper can be found with his close circle on the Swiss slopes snowboarding.

Falls head over heels for Alice Piastri - Oscar and Lily's daughter who is born the year before Annika is born.

Keeps a family photo in his drivers room as a good luck charm, as inspiration for him to do well in race stints.

Casper will always ask for his siblings' results in their sports after a race is over if they're also busy.

Prefers to do daytime stints in longer races, his childhood fear of the dark never completely going away.

Annika Lillian Verstappen

Born in April 30th 2030 in Geneva, Switzerland to Max and Juliette Verstappen.

The last of the cubs to be born.

Born a few months before Max retires from driving entirely.

Falls in love with horses at a very young age, and goes into all equestrian disciplines from the age of seven.

Makes a bit of history as one of the first equestrians to refuse to use a crop.

Is the shy one of the cubs as a kid, being most comfortable around horses and her family, but Juliette helps her out of her shell over time.

Picks up her mother's love of art, carrying a sketchbook everywhere, and takes up photography.

The angel of her parents' life, and really close with her uncle Mick - her godfather.

Annika competes under the French flag - as her mother is a dual citizen of France and Monaco.

The family conscience, often mediating arguments between her siblings and cousins.

Annika idolizes her older sister, and aspires to be just like her as a kid, but Estelle encourages her to be herself.

Adds a glittering gold lion to her riding helmet to mimic her father's old racing helmets.

Her competition horse is a chestnut mare called Constance, and is her heart horse.

Nicknames: Annie, Angel, Wildflower.

Becomes quite the force of nature in the equestrian community, due to her skills without a crop and her bond with Constance.

Annika always makes sure to take care of her horses herself, and becomes the heart and soul of the French equestrian team as a competitor.

Annika is a sensitive, generous person, who tries her best to unite people for a common goal.

Takes her dry and sarcastic sense of humour from her dad, and doesn't suffer fools willingly either.

Annika develops a crush on her brother's WEC teammate and best friend at around fourteen, and they get together three years later.

Her relationship with Mikey causes quite the stir on social media, but she doesn't care.

Wears a tulip ascot pin in her riding uniform for competitions, keeping her father close even if she's representing France.

Tries her best to get Casper, Mikey, and Fabian into horses as well as cars, but the trio prefer something more predictable than horses.

Annika loves nothing more than being outdoors, and can blow entire days outside with her siblings or her horse.

Zodiac Sign: Taurus.

Quickly becomes best friends with Alice Piastri as a kid, bonding over their shared love of horses.

Has her riding helmets on display in her apartment when she gets her own place.

The Cubs Together

The cubs never feel quite complete without each other, calling themselves 'four quarters of a whole' as they grow up.

Emilian is the leader, Estelle is the brains, Casper is the energy, and Annika is the heart.

The cubs have their arguments, all siblings with such contrasting personalities and passions do, but they always make up afterwards, and are left stronger for it.

They instate a pact with each other to attend each other's sporting events whenever they're able to.

Max and Juliette raise them to support each other in everything, and to be there for emotional support.

They share everything with each other, having no secrets, following their parents' example.

As professional athletes, they always shout each other out, creating a fandom for themselves as their parents, uncles, and aunts did.

They're all deeply protective over each other, but the significant others do become family really quickly.

They grow up calling Seb, Kimi, and Fernando their 'grandpas' as Juliette lost her father in her teens, and Max doesn't let his father near them for a long time.

The cubs become an example to follow for all of the grid kids to come.

The media labels them as 'The Princes and Princesses of The Paddock'. However, they prefer 'The Cubs' - even into adulthood.

They all become heavily involved in growing their individual sports.

Max and Juliette are incredibly proud of all of them, and love them unconditionally. The family being very tight knit.

Yeah, that's about all I can think of for the Verstappen Cubs. I can already kinda feel how much personality they all have unto themselves and together. I want them to be kind of a perfect mixture of their parents in a lot of ways. I'd imagine the entire grid family would be deeply proud of the people the cubs grow into.

This was fun to work on the last couple of days, and I'm glad this got done before I lost energy on it!

HI i had a horrible dragon ball thought and thought i should send it to you because i haven't done that in a long time :(

love stumbling across screenshots that remind me that akira toriyama doesn't give a shit about canonical heights EVER and just says numbers when asked and doesn't follow said numbers.

Like i was taking a peep at the manga because i want to learn how to replicate the art style (my most serious art has already been damaged by the dragon balls i draw and i say it like... damaged. but i don't mean that i think thats a good thing because thats what i want) and i find these bits from the 23rd tenkaichi budokai where Yamcha (6'0") and Tien (6'2") are both like a head taller than Goku (5'9") which... no they aren't lol. but it's fun to think that they are so I'll incorporate that into my belief system regardless.

And i also found this one picture from the end of the anime (equally inaccurate about numbers which i find delightful. i am incredibly amused by this.) where Goten (??) is like also a head shorter than Trunks (5'7"? probably, that's how tall future him was at that age idk man who fucking knows. not me.) which would probably put Goten at like... Vegeta height in terms of dragon ball inaccuracies because 17 year old Future Trunks was depicted as being considerably taller than his father in canon.

And that's generally insane because as far as i'm aware Goten is usually depicted to be vaguely taller than Trunks when they grow up to what should be their full heights in fan works? which is fair because Trunks is REALLY doing his best with what he has (Vegeta dna)

Also about Trunk's height- future Trunks (malnourished by saiyan standards... and probably earthling standards too) is really only 5 cm shorter than Goku?? which is not even much actually, Future Trunks is about as tall as LIONEL MESSI which, sure I'm Argentinian and that's my like referent for short men sue me... but that's hilarious because Goku is only 5 cm taller than that like what. and adult Gohan is only 6 cm taller than that! because he's only a single fucking centimeter taller than Goku! why is he only a fucking centimeter taller than his father. who even cares about that. him? probably not.

Also to expand onto the Vegeta Height Goten thing, that'd be so funny personally because i feel like the second neurotic ass SON OF VEGETA Trunks notices this he would tear his own hair out, i think he would resent that fact with everything he had. i don't even quite know why he would hate it yet, but i do know that he wouldn't be a fan of it.

But of course none of this fucking matters. because akira toriyama is a bitchass motherfucker and if i had a wife he would piss on her.

To be fair it must be hard to give a shit when you're depicting multiple characters in complex scenes and poses and angles all of the time.

BUT THEN WHY TRY TO DISCLOSE NUMBERS AT ALL !??!?!??!

I get the impression that he just draws characters as they feel. Even though Goku went through a growth spurt before the 23rd tenkaichi budokai, he's still younger than the others and he's still always been an aspiring young shoot, so Tenshinhan and Yamucha still need to be taller (and therefore more mature) than him.

That's why Vegeta steadily got taller as he gained wisdom and muscle mass.... he had to look more important.

Goten is kept shorter than Trunks consistently, except in GT I feel like they're allowed to be on-par. But they're both definitely taller than Vegeta I mean come on.

If the real meaning comes from visual impressions then I'll be on record as saying that watching Future Trunks on-screen you definitely see one TALL STACK of fresh organic non-GMO free-range Super Saiyan BEEF. Perhaps he should be shorter like his father. But when have animes cared about genetics

Trunks is always a tall bitch and Goku is always so tall and Gohan is always so tall and Goten even is so tall. They're all so tall. And then they keep making Vegeta taller too.

⸻Background Information. // Past to Present.

Loux was born in the Kírâti Citadel to respected sorciers employed by the Kirati caliphate - the youngest of three. He was very young when they were killed and eaten by blackwyrms in pursuit of Wildling poachers, having precious few memories of them, and so was simultaneously the least and most affected by their deaths. Spending most of his youth on the streets of Kírât, rejected by the family who'd taken his sisters in, he fell in with the wrong crowds, delving deeper and deeper into the uncomfortable underbelly of the city. A boy would see suffering that was simply just so, blind eyes turned from the dying, murders, innocents caught at the wrong place and wrong time, torture, betrayal, theft, and more - and embrace them.

The truth is, he cannot cope without a family. He always knew what he needed most, how unattainable it truly was, but when rumors of a fallen Sanguine Star began to circulate among the dregs, he pulled himself up by his bootstraps and got to work, siezing his opportunity. Guidance, acceptance, forgiveness may all be things he can only give himself, but he can right some wrongs and put everything back where it was, undo a lifetime of bullshit, upon claiming the Star. Over the course of roughly eight years, Loux had carved a wide space for himself in the Kírâti slums - enough room to flex, throw his weight around; mastering quite the handful of sorceries and keeping his word took him far. This opened up many different avenues to him and he has a guy for anything, any time, though he has stuck more closely with information brokers. Over this eight year period, he’s made little progress on his quest, despite having seen much of the known world by now.

However, two years prior to today, Loux met Sortia through a broker, right place right time. They were both looking for the Sanguine Star, and over numerous lengthy chats at Khuthd's Rest, they came to an agreement, an understanding - they would help each other get to the Sanguine Star, but may the best mage claim its boon. It wasn’t long after this, during a particularly dark round of dueling, that their newfound synergy would be tested, hearing some whiny vampire cry and squeal in his attempt to back out of a fight. They interjected, naturally, both a bit nosy, and…discovered the vampire had more than enough reason to whine and cry. With a handful of Deadeye’s crew down for the count, Loux robbed them all blind and the trio took off.

Currently, the three are travelling Sunjatta together in search of the Sanguine Star. Ladida, been together ever since, besties for resties. The end.

If you're curious, Loux defeats Sortia upon locating the star, though it is an intense and close battle. Her defeat results, ultimately, in her death and Loux's summary ascension to godhood, joining the ranks of the Outer Gods as the Flametongue, the Avatar of Fire, god of passion, ambition, heroism in a most unlikely place, fire, love, hatred, sex, wrath, transformation, and the extremes of freedom, irreparably changing the course of Sunjatta's future.

wrote a post before the qualifer match against Ecuador in 2017, wrote one Monday night before Croatia, feel like I should write a final post now.

Cannot believe Argentina are playing in the world cup final. It seems like a dream - we really made it.

Knowing that this is Messi’s last world cup match is hard but also understandable. He’s been in countless finals for Argentina, lost many, won 1, and now in another world cup final. I cannot imagine how difficult it is to play for a country that has an icon like Maradona. To always be compared to him, to be told that you are a failure if you do not reach the same heights that he did. I cannot imagine having to continue representing your country despite losing so many times.

When Messi retired after Copa America 2016 - i completely understood. Seeing him in tears on the pitch, shaking his head, I could only begin to fathom the pain that he was feeling. I remember reading articles that during the Copa America finals, his family was harassed in the crowd and had to be moved. The fact that he said Thiago asks why Argentines hate him so much, it’s crazy. The guy has suffered a lot not reaching the ultimate achievement with Argentina.

I remember the 2014 final like it was yesterday. I remember all the missed opportunities, the numbness seeing the Germans celebrate as the Argentines had to wait for their second place medal. Seeing Messi emotionless collect his Player of the tournament award. I remember all the details.

Thinking about where the team is now, how hard the players have fought, and how proud Argentines have been of Messi and the team? What a beautiful moment we get to witness.

Messi playing for Barcelona was a gift. Messi playing for Argentina was an honour. It’s been painful, beautiful, and a masterpiece to see him lead his country time and time again despite all the losses he has faced.

If this is the last time we see Lionel Messi at a world cup, I hope the story ends differently. I hope it ends with a smile on his face and the trophy in his hands.

But no matter what, it’s been a wonderful privilege seeing him play internationally. Gracias Leo, gracias por todo. 💙✨🇦🇷

It was sentimental; it was the only thing he had left of his old master and the only thing he felt was worthwhile in his scant repetoire of jedi abilities. But Neymar had seen the grandmaster flipping around in the training ring and sent Leo a look of incredulity that made the three years between them seem like an insurmountable ocean of teen angst.

“He’s three feet tall, of course he needs to do flips,” Neymar had said. “I’m a human man. I don’t want to do a splits and shit, I want to attack.”

Extremely aware of his own height, Leo had said, “Vapaad is too intense for you to control,” and scheduled a one-on-one session with master Yoda every day at three to hammer the point home.

At the end of the month he’d been summoned to the solarium to discuss Neymar’s progress.

“Not a single session, has he attended,” said master had informed him serenely. Leo fought very hard to contain a spike of anger that was out of place in the cool, green interior of the master's quarters, brushing a butterfly off his arm with a trembling hand.

“You couldn’t have told me earlier?”

“My student only, he is not,” Yoda had said, and Leo had felt gentle amusement in the force. It was quelling, for a moment, until he followed up with: “Methinks he’s in the pleasure district. The ladies, our Ney loves.”
