They won the lottery and inspired by Mr. Greg, they spent it all in one day by committing identity fraud.
Idk I took a second job and my brain is so fried right now. 😭

it is an age old subject in general in warriors but man cinderheart was so underutilized in so many aspects or at the very least just not done well in what she could have been. Even ignoring the reincarnated from cinderpelt for a moment, just the bit about her and lion mentoring ivy and dove. people's ideas about having cinder mentor dove instead of ivy, how they couldve had some conflict w lion trying to interfere bc she was the third, how ivy could've felt more drive in feeling neglected, more drive to joining the dark forest. And even if it were in canon, I don't think I even remember if cinderheart had a major reaction to knowing that ivy trained in the df??? I dunno. I'm just thinking thoughts

been reading the Alexander Trilogy and kept making fun of Hephaistion for being so thoroughly whipped for Alexander but then actually decided to draw him all bright and a little sweaty after exercise and yeah, yeah I see the vision
(referenced these ivory sculptures for the face reference, this would be when he's maybe 18-ish, presumably before exile)

The second Long Night has kind of already begun…
so, i finally put my finger on what the maiden-made-of-life and lion of night myth reminds me of:
Tumblr media
to summarize, the eye of ra is the lion headed female counterpart to the sun god ra, and is best known for her destructive nature as the representation of the suns negative aspects (heat, drought, etc).
this is all very reminiscent of two further eastern gods of twoiaf:
“In the annals of the Further East, it was the Blood Betrayal, as his usurpation is named, that ushered in the age of darkness called the Long Night. Despairing of the evil that had been unleashed on earth, the Maiden-Made-of-Light turned her back upon the world, and the Lion of Night came forth in all his wroth to punish the wickedness of men.” (TWOIAF)
and the little we know about them reminds me of this egyptian myth:
Tumblr media
i definitely think grrm was inspired by the destruction of mankind myth when creating the lion of night, maiden-made-of-light, and this far eastern version of the long night—though he definitely took some liberties, since the lion of night seems to be a moon god and not just an eye of the maiden-made-of-light like sekhmet is for ra.
i’m fairly certain i’m right because the far eastern long night origin myth seems to play out in the main series, and the lion of night stand in is none other than Dany—who is asoiaf’s own moon goddess and the moon of Khal Drogo’s life (and he is Dany’s sun-and-stars).
before i go any further, i want to make sure everyone is on the same page, and to do so i want to bring up the qartheen origin myth of dragons, which can be interpreted as another long night origin myth:
“He told me the moon was an egg, Khaleesi,” the Lysene girl said. “Once there were two moons in the sky, but one wandered too close to the sun and cracked from the heat. A thousand thousand dragons poured forth, and drank the fire of the sun. That is why dragons breathe flame. One day the other moon will kiss the sun too, and then it will crack and the dragons will return.” (AGOT, Daenerys III)
that day did come, and Dany hatched her dragons from Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre by walking into the flames. however, by taking into account the popular theory that the first long night was caused by a meteor impact, which in turn caused a volcanic winter, Dany’s waking dragons from stone moment reads as a parallel to the events that caused the first long night.
even Drogo’s death perfectly fits in with this narrative. Drogo, our sun figure, dies but has not yet returned, meaning that, as of now, a metaphorical long night is playing out.
moving back to the far eastern tale of the long night, interestingly, before Drogo even died and before Dany walked into the pyre, it could be said that a blood betrayal took place between Dany and Viserys. this scene in ADWD heavily implies just that:
Only when you woke the dragon. I loved you. “You sold me. You betrayed me.” No. You were the betrayer. You turned against me, against your own blood. They cheated me. Your horsey husband and his stinking savages. They were cheats and liars. They promised me a golden crown and gave me this. He touched the molten gold that was creeping down his face, and smoke rose from his finger. (ADWD, Daenerys X)
now that i’ve laid all of that out, the events unfold like this:
1. a blood betrayal occurs between Dany and Viserys
2. Khal Drogo, Dany’s sun-and-stars, dies—mirroring how the maiden-made-of-light turned her back on the world
3. Dany, a moon goddess figure, wakes dragons from stone by wandering close to her sun-and-stars
4. and afterward, Dany begins wearing a white lionskin as both a hood and cloak to cover her bald head, reminiscent of the depiction of the lion of night as a man with a lions head
Tumblr media
the myth has mostly played out now. the blood betrayal has come and gone, the sun has left the world, and now it’s time to discuss the later half of the myth, where:
“…the Lion of Night came forth in all his wroth to punish the wickedness of men.”
the lion of night is associated with demons—in the sense that these demons did his biding:
“The Five Forts are very old, older than the Golden Empire itself; some claim they were raised by the Pearl Emperor during the morning of the Great Empire to keep the Lion of Night and his demons from the realms of men...” (TWOIAF)
i think it’s important to mention that dragons have been associated with demons before (though i couldn’t find a direct association in the main series):
Whoever he was, he began to preach in the Cobbler’s Square, saying that the dragons were demons, the spawn of godless Valyria, and the doom of men. (TWOIAF)
Wildfire is called the jade demon and is connected with Aerys, Dany’s father.
The Freehold of Valyria and its empire were destroyed by the Doom, but the shattered peninsula remains. Strange tales are told of it today, and of the demons that haunt the Smoking Sea where the Fourteen Flames once stood. In fact, the road that joined Volantis to Slaver’s Bay has become known as the “demon road,” and is best avoided by all sensible travelers. (TWOIAF)
and in mythology, particularly in christian traditions, dragons are often linked with demons. the most prominent example is the red dragon, widely interpreted as a representation of satan—who is also known as lucifer, a name that means light-bearing.
i’ve digressed… so anyways, Dany basically walks the path of the lion of night and begins her crusade against one of the most wicked practices of mankind. she uses her “demons” to do so and certainly won’t stop until she makes the world right (the Stallion who Mounts the World, anyone?).
with that in mind, i now need to mention that Dany has been named azor ahai by the red priests, (funnily enough, r’hllor is considered a demon by most westerosi—fire demon, red demon (satan anyone?)) and therefore takes on the roles of mankind’s punisher and mankind’s savior.
i don’t think there’s much more to cover, as twoiaf is more filler than anything important, but i find it really interesting that these tales kind of align with the main story in a few aspects, and it helps me piece together what the first long night may have looked like.
just some extra stuff below:
to be honest, the myth of the sun disappearing and causing a long, endless night just seems like a exaggerated version of a ‘why the sun sets’ myth. basically, many cultures have explanations for why the sun sets, and a common idea is that the sun god moves through the underworld at night and eventually returns to make the sun rise again.
so, a sun god dying and a long night setting in, which can only be stopped by the sun god rising again, is just basic mythology stuff lol.
also, the prophecy given to Dany by Mirri Maz Duur literally lists the conditions for the sun/sun god to return (for the maiden-made-of-light to stop turning her back on the world~):
And when the bleak dawn broke over an empty horizon, Dany knew that he [Drogo] was truly lost to her. “When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east,” she said sadly. “When the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves. When my womb quickens again, and I bear a living child. Then you will return, my sun-and-stars, and not before.” Never, the darkness cried, never never never. (AGOT, Daenerys IX)
if we use this as a checklist, then i’d say we can already check a few things off. first off, the sun has risen in the west and set in the east—Quentyn Martell was born in westeros and died in essos. secondly, the dothraki sea is dying as winter sets in. while mountains haven’t blown in the wind yet, i’m sure we’ll get something of the like soon, and i believe we’ll either see some volcanic eruptions or something will happen to Robert Strong/Gregor Clegane, aka the mountain that rides. the last point is the most straightforward, so we can be certain that Dany will have a child eventually, and after all of these conditions are fulfilled, the sun will return—not Drogo, but the sun itself.

I woke up feeling like I was crying to sleep when I wasn't??? And my dream was about Mei from Turning Red riding a snow sleigh. Um There's nothing sad about that??? Lol
Anyway, the warm up sketches. The colors were added in Medibang. It was pretty fun, might do that technique some other time. My body still refused to recover from being bummed out throughout the day so I did house chores instead of commissions. 😅 Will try again tomorrow.
