TGIF! You know what that means, another edition of Follow Friday! Meet @marlenesilveira! Marlene is a multidisciplinary designer, illustrator and letterer living and working in Toronto. Recently, she has been combining her lettering into linocut. Linocut is a design or form carved in relief on a block of linoleum which can then be made into a print. We asked Marlene how she got her start in lettering: "As long as I can remember, I've always been creative and knew I wanted to be in a creative field but wasn't quite sure until I discovered graphic design in my teenage years. In college, I took a few typography classes and had an interest in learning the theory behind traditional letterforms and fonts. Not until 2013, I started to experiment with lettering more and more and gravitated towards the freedom and creativity it brought while combining illustrative elements. I drew much of my inspiration from vintage ephemera and started an extensive collection of type books from Louise Fili to Doyald Young and many more. Like most people, I didn’t realize I could make a living that involved lettering while combining various methods in an analog and digital format. Hello, Tumblr!🎨☺️🏳️‍⚧️💅✨

Hiiii, my name is Ivo (He/him/yours), I'm 23 and I am a trans artist and printmaker living and working in Vienna, Austria. After two years of exclusively posting on Insta, I finally feel confident enough to explore other social media platforms. I am a student at Kunstschule Wien, I'm organizing art meetups + occasionally art markets.

This print is a 3-color reduction linocut print (15x21cm), and part of a 4-part series called "Becoming". As you might've noticed, the color palette is that of the trans pride flag. 🏳️‍⚧️

In the first picture, you actually see a misprint, bc after that I still went in and fixed some things on the lino block.😅 Happens all the time. Slide two shows the final print.

So, the bigger problem w this is that he's looking the wrong way. I already made the transfem print look to the left... How to fix this? We shall see!
