The secret recipe of happiness
Let me share you the simplest recipe of happiness I have been working on these recent years.
Yes, flower pressing may sounds easy peasy but living in a hot and humid country like Thailand results usually come with disappointment.
For years I have been collecting flowers from places I visited and figuring out how to do flower pressing without leaving stains and marks on the beloved encyclopedia.
There were times when many gone mouldy, some stuck between pages I didn’t dare to rip them apart and some left stains on books after books very badly :s
A year ago I came back with bunches of flowers I got from Japan, I left them aside hanging for a couple of days and started to categorize them, separating leaves and flowers.
1. I selected the thickest book from the shelf and this time I tried the pressing process with toilet papers.
2. Sandwiched each stalk between 3 layers of tissue paper.
3. Left them under the sun for half a day before..
4. Slotted them between pages, all in one thick book.
5. Instead of keeping the book in a room, I left it in an open space where air flowed and piled up many other books on top.
9 months passed I opened the book with glee! Their colours still remain to be seen, no moulds, marks nor stains :)
Try it and you will find your own secret recipe of happiness from an old boring book.
It’s wonderful how nature cures everything :)
Goodnight,
Nalinna

Magic Hands by forest wanderer: school scout hat to fancy*
Magic Hands by forest wanderer: Fancy Hat from old scout hats.
*This is actually a repeated blogpost from a few years back however since I have just released the video version so there you go I will reblog it again. The design from the video and on the blog may look different as I have created a few designs for this idea.
Many have asked me from earlier Instagram post, ‘where did you get your hats?’
Do these look familiar to you?
Some of you came across them for sure, in fact some might still be using them at school for girl/boy scout classes (if you attend Thai schools). See you have granted gems in your hands! If you still have them somewhere in your wardrobes or your brother does and he doesn’t use them anymore, please please don’t throw them away! They can turn into something else rather fashionable for yourself or as a gift.
And if you have never attended these scout classes, don’t worry, grab them from any Thai uniform store anywhere in the market for only 70 baht each!!
So here you go, let’s use our magic hands to create fashion accessories.
Things to prepare:
- boy/girl scout hats
- left over laces
- needle
- threads
- pins
- scissors
how to..
1. cut up laces into small pieces.
2. pin them in any ways you like, design them!!
3. slowly hand stitch them on the hat.
4. add more bits and pieces of laces.
5. you could just stitch them up all gathered in one side, or all around like mine, or if you have time why not filling the whole hat!!
Try to create many different patterns up to your our preference and design!!
The original video version has been released on Youtube, please kindly follow the link:

Have a great weekend,

Forest Wanderer at Ginger
Pink blue yellow orange green and all shades of pastel colours spotted here and there everywhere as a signature of Ginger & Kafe. It’s like waking into a dream land full of dots, stripes, fun shapes of animals, flowers and pom poms oh I love this place :)
Ginger & Kafe is located at 199 The House, Mummueang road just right inside Ku Mueng or the mote which surrounded the old city of Chinag Mai. People often get confused with this area as all corners look pretty much the same, you’d would probably ended up driving in a square if you missed!! So watch out for Sriphum sub district for the big big sign says ‘The House’, yes the beautiful looking hub.
The House has a few sections for you to take a look, theres Ginger & Kafe with fashion store created my Ginger themselves at the back, lifestyle & home store and another restaurant section to enjoy the view of Chiang Mai while you’re munching your meals. All are decorated in such a unique way with lots of colours and patterns it creates some kind of unexplainable relaxing atmosphere, making you feel ‘at home’.
I myself has been there a couple of times and often went back to try out different menus. They do have Thai food, some are fusion with Western style, bakery, long list of drinks, oh I love there juices :) So recently I went back there again to do some styling shoots and video shoots for my Youtube channel, the interior temped me to stay quite long hours, believe me I shot every corner!
If you’re in Chiang Mai or visiting Chiang Mai, do not miss out your chance to visit The House. You’re gonna experience something different and leave good good memories with your family/friends, perhaps with lots of pictures too ;)
Have a great week!

‘Magic Hands’ by the forest wanderer*: d.i.y home deco idea for this autumn
Who says autumn gets so boring here in South East Asia? Hmm we do have leaves changing colours into beautiful shades of yellow and orange during mid October to December but sadly no sight of fallen maple leaves nor oak leaves on the grown.
I personally am an autumn colours person you know. Whenever the season arrives I often pop up with lots of d.i.y ideas from dried leaves to remind myself art classes with Mrs. Phillips in a chilly echoey studio during my time back at Westonbirt School in UK.
Well things just always seem to go my way. Recently there are so many dried leaves scattered around the front and back of mum’s garden! I know it’s a difficult task for my gardener but hey, I could help him out!
I’m bringing back the Westonbirt autumn feel to my bedroom this November with the simplest home deco idea, turning boring tropical dried leaves into oak leaves!
So let us complete our magical autumn scent together!
Things to prepare:
- dried leaves
- dried branch
- threads & string
- scissors
- black pen
- white paint
- brush
- string
How to:
1. Cut dried leaves into an oak leaf shape.
2. Paint them according to your own designs with white paint and leave them to dry.
3. Decorate with black pen illustrations. *careful not to press too hard when you draw, otherwise your leaves may end up with holes!!
4. Tie treads on them as well as attaching them to the brach.
5. Tie a string on the branch then hang wherever you want!! Mine is just right above my bed :)
yes and Mollie was a photo bomber..
have a great autumn!!

forest bake recipe*: ‘forever figs tart’
Figs figs figs!! So hard to snatch some figs from the market here in Thailand! I wish we could grow them but with this kind of sweaty weather...nahh :(
What a lucky day of the month, my aunt dropped by with a bag full of tiny figs from a farm near by my hometown. They told her it’s the second batch and last of the year....never mind then enough for a tart or two anyway...
:D
Things to prepare (1 regular baking tray size) :
- fresh figs x 10
- eggs x 1
- flour x 2 cups
- sugar x 1/2 cup
- brown sugar x 1/2 cup
- grounded cinnamon x 1 tsp
- butter x 1/2 cup
Let’s get going!
1. Mix butter and sugar together, add (beaten up) egg then slowly add flour.
2. Gently knead the dough into a round ball with both palms. *tips: don’t forget to sprinkle some flour onto the table top before kneading.
3. Flatten the dough a little before wrapping it up with cling film.
4. Leave the wrapped dough in the refrigerator for 20 - 30 minutes.
5. Spread the dough across the baking tray with finger tips tips till covered.
6. Dock the dough with fork.
7. Turn on the oven to 160 C for 15 minutes. *tips: Meanwhile place a layer of tinfoil over the dough and dump some type of bean or rice on top of the tinfoil. The idea behind using these “pie weights”, which frankly are perfect for tarts too, is to prevent any bubbles forming on the crust that would result in it baking unevenly. Bake for 10 minutes, remove beans and tinfoil, then continue to bake for another 5 minutes.
8. While waiting, slice figs into thin pieces.
9. Gently place them on top of the baked pastry.
10. Sprinkle some (already mixed) brown sugar and grounded cinnamon.
11. Bake for 10 - 15 minutes under the same temperature.
Serve with whipping cream topping or ice cream of your choice. You can also sprinkle some more grounded cinnamon on top of the whipping cream. Yummm..
forever figs fan!!

magic hands by forest wanderer: ‘ Halloween recycled candle holder’
Taking you 3 days back to the 31st of October..the Halloween! Time to recycle neglected goods into something rather interesting for the festive season.
To a lot of people, I’m sure when you think of vases you would immediately be thinking of plonking some flowers in. What if you get bored of this usual ideas and would be a bit of a waste to chuck these old vases away? Why don’t turn them into something else with your magical hands, whether it’s for Halloween or any other occasions you name it!
Never mind the pumpkin if you can’t get one (like me :S), there are many other different things you could use to represent the spook in the air!
So here we go..
things to prepare:
- old vases (in many different sizes) x 3 - 4 pieces
- acrylic spray paint in black
- acrylic paint in white
- brushes
- super glue
- candle
how to:
1. spray vases one at a time and leave them to dry under the sun. *cautions: please wear mask and gloves when spraying in an open space. Spray paint at a distance of about one foot away so as to avoid drip marks.
2. paint spider webs on each of them and leave to dry.
3. stack them from the bottom with super glue.
4. place the candle and decorate in any ways you prefer. *tips: you could cut small piece of oasis to place inside the top vase before putting the candle for stability.
happy belated Halloween!

forest bake recipe*: ‘Traditional Thai Pumpkin Custard Pudding’
It’s the end of October, it’s Halloween!! Don’t trick but treat yourself and friends with one good homemade ‘Traditional Thai Pumpkin Custard Pudding’ after a big feast?
Talking about this very special pumpkin recipe, it has always been an all time favourite of us all, specially those who grew up in the North of Thailand like myself. Since I have been growing up with it I didn’t really pay much attention to the taste so much as it tastes as good as usual till oneday the thought came around my head I started to wonder how on earth they made this.
Yes, I do admit it did took me so long thinking of what to share for Halloween this year. So I knocked my aunt’s door and asked for her recipe :)
Let’s try out one of the best dessert recipes from my hometown!
Things to prepare (for two small pumpkins):
- duck eggs x 5
- palm sugar x 1 tbs
- flour x 1 tsp
- coconut milk x 1 cup
- vanilla extract x 1 tsp
- pandan leaves x 3 - 4
let’s start!
1. cut open the lid of the pumpkin, don’t forget to cut it big enough for the spoon to go through.
2. scoop out the inside and run the pumpkin under water thoroughly.
3. mix eggs together.
4. add coconut milk, palm sugar and vanilla extract. *the trick is to mix them with pandan leaves for a few minutes!
5. add flour.
6. sieve once then gently pour into the pumpkin.
7. steam for 20 minutes, leave aside to cool down then put in the fridge for a few hours before serving. Dig in or slice it up like a cake!
8. sprinkle with sesame seeds!
done!!
happy Halloween!

Forest Wanderer x Brother Embroidery Machine (special Mickey Mouse edition*)
Through many years of my sewing experiences, I laid hands on all different kind of sewing machines but never once tried the embroider one. Honestly their look had thrilled me sometimes until I finally came across one that totally blown my mind and believe me, I couldn’t stop using the machine!!
Last month, I have received an email from Brother Thailand, it was such a great honour to work with one of my favourite sewing machine brands. Brother was first established in Nagoya, Japan and expanded their market to hundreds of countries. So here we are, thank you so much to Brother Thailand for taking me on board with their press workshop for the new launch of Special Edition Mickey Mouse Embroidery Machine.
There was no need for a brief session on how to use the machine for me, the manual explained very well, instructions were labeled clearly on the machine for the newbies and yes, the touch screen with all the embroidery patterns you will need (Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh, Alphabets, Flowers and many more!!) Oh theres USB port for whatever you wish to design for creatives like us!
I opened the box, set everything and started rolling!
Thank you so much again Brother Thailand!
Sweet dreams :)

magic hands by forest wanderer: ‘d.i.y monsoon cones for home decor’
Pitter patter pitter patter..
So here’s the monsoon season comes around again..Though i’m not quite a rain person but i’m very fond of the petrichor scent and the beautiful shades of green from happy plants in the garden, oh such a sight to be seen!
Since you can’t really wander out and about in, i decided to sneak into the backyard with bare feet and wooden basket in my hand ready to pick some dropped off wet branches on the grown. Left the garden as fast as light leaving some foot step marks behind..
With these i’m going to make a simple home decor..
Things to prepare:
- some dropped off branches after rain (make sure that they are dried up with cloth)
- old magazine pages or newspapers
- strings or yarns
- tape
- scissors
how to:
1. Roll up the magazine page into a cone shape.
2. Secure the cone with tape on the outside.
3. Trim edges to make a smaller cone. (or if you prefer the original size then it’s ok)
4. Secure the inside with a tape.
5. Cut the string into your preferred length, estimate positions equally from one side to another.
6. Tape both ends of the string to the cone.
7. Slot some branches in with your personal flower arrangement skills :)
..and tada!! You can decorate in any style you like!
Added a bit of foresty feel to my cones, theres no need to water them cause when you leave them dry out they will look even more magical around your house!
Sweet dreams :)
