Sky and Wars knight training

Sky and Warriors... are the knights of the group. As in the ones that are fully trained in battle, and injury in battle.

And it shows

Because Sky and Wars were the first ones to reach and defend Wolfie when he was injured

Wolfie, not Twilight

Because not everyone knew it was him. They didn't all know that that was their brother, and not just a friendly wolf

When Twilight was injured, we instantly saw the faces of those who knew it was him, but none of them could reach him

And so Time asked Wars to, and Wars did

And Sky instantly joined him

But they didn't know, they didn't know it was Twilight

Yet they treated it as any injury in battle, with instant communication and getting him out and cared for 'I don't know if we can get him out yet-' / 'just defend him first!' / 'I'll cover you' / 'we'll take care of him quickly'

And when Sky and Wars did find out it was Twilight, they let Time take Mr. Stubborn to the village, and went back to the battle

"Potions are for the weak"

They later share their thoughts on this -they said what their actions had already shown- that they considered any injury an instant priority

It matters so much to me- that the two who were able to reach and help Twilight the most didn't even know it was him, but still treated it as their highest priority in battle. It shows a lot to their character me thinks.

It's really cool! The way they speak and their actions show their training- they have such an instant response in sync that they will get the wounded out.

They are wonderful heroes and knights and I love seeing how that comes out in battle

Back in October last year, I started reading This is an Adjuration by @not-freyja.

By the time I had made it to chapter 5, I had already started typesetting this story as I read because I knew this would be one of those stories that I needed to have on my shelf.

When I finally caught up to the story at chapter 31, I begged the author to let me bind this when it was finished.

Nearly a year later, and what is probably the most important bind of my life is finally finished. Check out these glamour shots, and if you want to hear more about the actual binding process and about how this fic actually changed my life, see below.

So funny story, before I get into the technical side of this bind, but this fic actually changed my life. Not as in I was greatly emotionally moved by the story, though don't get me wrong I absolutely was, but genuinely this fic introduced me to some of the best people I have ever had to privilege of knowing (Hello Class, you know who you are 🩷), and also, it introduced me to Freyja, the incredibly talented author, who, as I type this, is curled up in bed next to me fast asleep after flying half way around the world to go on a two week long date with me.

Moral of the story folks is comment on the fics you like. You might accidentally meet the love of your life on, and I can't believe I'm saying this, AO3.

Anyways, about the bind!

This bind was a challenge from day 1. I had to do the typeset for this 300k word fic 4 times, and had to split it across 2 volumes. This was the longest fic I have ever attempted to bind, and it was so thick I couldn't get it in the paper trimmer.

To make this book as durable as possible, I attempted a few techniques. I secured it with 3 tapes, I made an Oxford hollow, I rounded the spine, I made a slipcase and I used 2.3mm boards where normally I use 1.8mm.

The slipcase is covered with embossed faux leather, buckram and plain ribbon, and lined with gold satin fabric. I've never made a slipcase before so this was an experience.

The books are covered with an emerald green silk finish bookcloth which really gave the books the luxury they deserved. I foiled custom end papers as well as every chapter title page using heat reactive transfer foil on toner ink (never again I am never doing that again omg it took days). Huge thank you to @la-sera for letting me use her artwork which helped inspire this fic!

The grey flashback chapters I had to use HTV for the border decoration and I'm very happy with how that turned out because it was so easy and straight forward, unfortunately it just wasn't viable for the whole book.

It feels weird to finally have these books done. They have my blood, sweat, tears and my heart poured into them, and I've been working on them for so long that it's odd to actually have them finished. I'm so proud of this bind, and feel like I've grown so much as a fanbinder by making these.

much as I love it in fics, the main reason I don't really write Legend and Marin reuniting is this-

Grief changes people

If Marin came back, by whatever means, she'd know Link was still out there, somewhere, whereas the vet has no hope of seeing her, and while that wound is still newly scarred, it still is scarred; he's already started healing, he's already accepted what he's lost. Yes, it hurts. Yes, her memory still lingers. Yes, the guilt of being the reason she's gone is still very strong, but the guilt associated with her and the pain of her loss are two separate emotions, even if they do have some cross-over.

More than that though, he's had to keep living with that guilt and loss both. He's been on more adventures and lost other people and faced struggles and changed, both in small ways and major ones.

Meanwhile Marin, whatever reason you give for her return, has likely only grown up a little bit in their time apart, not anything major.

Still, while Legend loves Marin, by now it's more the memory that he loves, and he, meanwhile, is no longer the boy she loved herself. If they met, it wouldn't be immediate hugs and adoration.

Legend would be wary, suspicious of her. He's dealt with shape-shifters wearing the faces of his loved ones before after all. And Marin? Marin would be treated to the harsher side of a man who's been hardened by hurt and loss in her absense.

It would be a very difficult, very painful reunion, and with that in mind, it's unlikely they would hit it off immediately again. It's highly unlikely that either of them would come to terms with it quickly. It would be awkward, slow, and wary, and they'd both have a lot to work through before any attention could be turned to a romantic spark they'd had when they first met.

He has to tune him out for his own sake

And remaining innocents (he literally can’t even comprehend most things four implies because he still is a kid)

Four has done things

You don’t know how to torture people with such success if you haven’t done it yourself

That little man has skeletons in his closet

I categorically refuse to believe that the Fierce Deity can be evil, because a mask that you can only get by making everyone happy can't be evil. The FD mask is made out of love and gratitude from Termina to Link and this is a hill I'm willing to die on

Maybe Time is Team Dad but Warriors is fun older brother/fun uncle/adopted dad.

I completely headcanon that Wars adopted Mask and Tune during the war. Which means he's used to dealing with way too young traumatized energetic kids.

Which is most of the chain.

Wars just adopts the rest of the chain.

Sure, he's the one who plans battles or keeps the group on track, but he's also the one who can prank Wind, talk weapons with Four, be a wonderfully annoying older brother to Legend, help Wild understand his knight training, rest with Sky in companionable silence, sit with Twilight and make sure the kids aren't getting into trouble, teach Hyrule other first aid techniques, and he's the only one who can truly let Time be himself again.

Wars is talking to one of the younger heros and accidentally calls them 'kid'

then he starts doing it on purpose

everyone rolls their eyes and makes fun of him for being such a dad, but they secretly love their new father figure
