Have you read Taz Skylarās Gamesradar interview about Sanji? He rarely talks about him as a character since interviewers would constantly ask him about his general experience on filming the live action and his stunt work on the show most of the time. But when he is given the opportunity to talk or have a deep dive discussion about Sanji, itās just beautiful. Itās just so beautiful the way Taz articulates his thoughts about Sanji as a character and itās very clear that he truly understands him.
When the OPLA Season 1 was weeks away from officially being released in 2023, I was still on the fence and unsure of it. I actually liked the casting of the Strawhat crew but I was not sure on the writing and acting aspect for each character, especially the acting for Luffy and Sanji since I was unfamiliar with Inaki and Taz at that time. Then I read an interview where Taz talked and had a deep dive discussion about Sanji and it was such a huge turning point for me. It quickly changed my mind and made me have faith in Tazās portrayal of Sanji. Itās an interview that made me go āOMG HE GETS IT! HE GETS THIS CHARACTER!ā And then I watched the Live Action, and was quickly amazed by Tazās acting because he had little screen time compared to the other Strawhats but he made the most of it. He had a few scenes but he was able to portray this character with such great depth and layers. I can tell that he was considering Sanjiās origin when he was portraying him. I am actually quite excited for Season 2 and hope that thereās more seasons.
This is the interview that I was talking about btw: https://www.gamesradar.com/taz-skylar-one-piece-netflix-sanji-interview/
i had not read this interview before so thank you for sharing it!!
youāre so right though, every time taz is given the opportunity to talk about sanji as a character all i can think is that he just gets him in every way. one of my favourite things about opla, especially when it comes to sanji, is that itās the first time weāre seeing the earlier arcs whilst also knowing the rest of the story and, in sanjis case, backstory that didnāt exist at the time the east blue saga was written and itās so interesting to have a version of the character where we know all of that context is being taken into account when it comes to portraying him. hindsight really is a wonderful thing and it allows tazās version of sanji to be so incredibly and purposefully layered, rather than the retcons and often accidental callbacks from earlier anime arcs weāre used to. this answer from the article you linked is a perfect example:

i genuinely gasped when i read this earlier because sanjiās relationship with and views of women stemming from how he was treated as child by sora and reiju compared to his male family members is such an extremely important part of his character to me, and basically all of his fans and the fact that taz picked up on that as well and the fact that that is what was in his head whilst filming is huge to me, because while itās pretty agreed upon by the fandom itās not something thatās ever explicitly stated in the manga and was certainly not a thing nor the intended reasoning behind sanjiās views on women when oda was first writing the east blue (he was just a simp). the fact that in opla that is very explicitly the reason and what taz intended is, as i said, huge to me because not only is it just such a perfect interpretation of sanji but it also shows just how much time taz put into his portrayal of him.
another small moment when i thought oh he gets him is in the interview below and his answer to the question of what devil fruit would you have if you could have one was none because sanji is the only person in his family who is normal and has no special abilities and that in itself is what makes him special and i just thought yes! exactly! you get it!
youtube
on top of the extensive physical training taz did for the role and the fact he learned to cook for it, the time put into simply thinking about sanji as a person and his past and origins, and how it shaped him into the man who we are introduced to in baratie means opla sanji is just so wonderful to watch. the stand out line to me in season 1 is āall i see is backā. the bitterness of it is so good and if you know sanjiās full backstory you can immediately tell that he is not just thinking about the rock when he says that.
this ended up being a longer ramble than i intended but to round it off thereās a lot of opportunity in season 2 for hints to sanjiās past (those being for example the fact that itās mr 3 heās mistaken for because isnāt that a crazy coincidence) and iām so interested to see if taz takes them.
#opla sanji my beloved#i watched opla first#so he will forever be my favourite#the first version of the character i fell in love with#one piece#one piece live action#opla#black leg sanji#sanji one piece#vinsmoke sanji#one piece sanji#taz skylar

Hi! I was wondering if you seen that academic article āGender boundaries in SaiyÅ«ki by Kazuya Minekura: the queer family as a model of leadershipā and what you think about it? They talk about Naruto and sasuke relationship. Btw love what youāre doing for the community!
Hi anon!
I had read the excerpt Narutouzumakiarchive has posted every now and then on her blog, but I searched it and read the whole thing, here it is for anyone interested in it [LINK]
I really like how they talk about this contrast between West and East. I feel this is the aspect of Naruto and Sasuke's Yin and Yang we don't talk about as much in Narusasu spaces because we're too focused on the feminity/masculinity aspect or telling annoying Sakura stans that she is not a part of this dynamic so she can't be the Earth because Sasuke is already the Earth to Naruto's Heaven.

However, Kishimoto somewhat discusses this West/East dichotomy when he talks about the creation of both Naruto and Sasuke's designs how he wanted to create a fantasy world where you could see things that you found in modern and ancient Japan but also he wanted to give Naruto a foreign look so that he wouldn't blend in with all the other ninja designs across Japanese media.
In the 4th Databook Kishimoto and his editor Yahagi discuss how it was important for them to make Sasuke complementary to Naruto in his looks, paying attention to his eyes which would also denote what's being described in the paper of Sasuke being "an introvert with Asian traits", as his eyeshape is supposed to suggest an alluring look with a thoughtful personality, more aligned with traditional Japan, in contrast to Naruto's bright and energetic image. So it was 100% intentional from Kishimoto's part.

This difference in looks that makes them look like West and East clashing it's also intentional to show physically the difference in ideology between Naruto and Sasuke. Naruto believes in collaboration whereas Sasuke believes in doing it all by himself to avoid others getting hurt or "contaminated by hate"
It's really all a part of a whole, yin yang, femininity/masculinity, moon/sun, earth/heaven, East/West, individualism/collaboration. The amount of time and thought Kishimoto dedicated to Naruto and Sasuke to make them perfect complementaries of each other is insane, love that fujoshi 50 year old man.
But I also found very interesting this conversation on how the Sun was initially a woman therefore representative of feminity unlike the Western perception of the Sun where it's a male. But in Kishimoto's writing it he takes Sasuke and he then ties him to both Amaterasu, a woman and the sun, but also to the crescent moon in complement to Naruto's sun. A transition of femininity from the sun to the moon.
I wonder if Sasuke being linked to Amaterasu also has anything to do with Itachi and how Kishimoto constantly links him to the full moon in representation to Tsukuyomi jutsu. Or if the Uchiha clan having both the Tsukuyomi and the Amaterasu justsu once they achieve the mangekyou Sharingan has something to do with some sort of yin yang balance achievement now that they've "completed" the Sharingan.
I'll need to think more about this, though.

I was reading an opinion piece on Kate Middleton's cancer diagnosis on CNN by Jamal Baig about the increasing rates of cancer in patients under 50. As far as 5 minutes of googling and JSTORing can lend me to believe, there's nothing illegitimate about Dr. Baig. However, I found this bit in his opinion interesting:
Now, I'm always dubious when reading anything that attributes a very broad generalized idea that changes in diets have caused an increased in cancer, because more often than not it's not pointing to an exploration of, say, increased pesticide use, but the author's personal bias against the quote unquote "unhealthy", especially those who are deemed "fat" by the medical industry.
That being said, I was curious what source he linked, half expecting it to lead to just another op-ed from some other doctor from who knows when, but I was pleasantly surprised! Written by a man named Michael Donaldson, it was an evidentiary review published in a scientific journal called "Nutrition and cancer: A review of the evidence for an anti-cancer diet."
Now I wasn't going to give the whole thing a read, but I stopped in each section, gave a quick skim to get a general vibe, moved on to the next section, etc. I was immediately suspicious that the very first line in the abstract was "It has been estimated that 30ā40 percent of all cancers can be prevented by lifestyle and dietary measures alone" as that seems to be a bananas statistic to just posit, but it still had the air of scientific integrity, so I did my skim.
The first handful of sections had things that gave me some moments of pause, that this article was in fact another doctor simply cherry picking data to confirm his own biases, but nothing so egregious as to do a spit take. That comes in a few minutes. The first section that made really go hold the phone was when we got to his Flax Seed section.
Compare how he writes about Red Meat...:
(that's all he wrote, btw)
...with how he starts writing about Flax Seed:
Did I just enter a Flax Seed commercial? Does this guy work for BIG FLAX SEED? on and on he writes about Flax Seed, and I start getting a sense that perhaps this man has a Flax Seed Agenda. In any case, he eventually moves on and I quickly skim to get to the end (because it's boring among other things).
So, who exactly is Michael Donaldson?
Girl are you kidding me
The Hallelujah Acres Foundation is a FOR PROFIT company that sells a """biblical""" based diet program called the hallelujah diet and also sells supplements on said site.
Now, in case you forgot where I started with this, this was the link provided as a "source" to a legitimate doctor's claim in an op-ed about cancer that "at least part of the answer" of why cancer is increasing in under 50 patients are the "changes to nutrition and lifestyle that took hold in middle of the last century." Dr. Baig did not read this article, or if he did was not concerned that it was written by the employee of a company that profits from unscientific research it uses to sell supplements and diets. Which is worse, I don't know.
The point I'm making is that you absolutely need to be vigilant all the time. You need to understand that doctors can not only have biases, but agendas. Researchers can have biases and agendas. Scientists can have biases and agendas. And that magical thinking about real health issues that can affect your future can permeate the scientific community because weirdos write convincing enough evidence that support their already determined world view.
This kind of shit is the reason why women go into doctor offices complaining about pain in their abdomen and get told to go lose weight and come back in 6 months. This is why ideas like moralizing eating have huge effects on women's health and influence medical misogyny, and why it's a feminist issue.

Hello may i ask you if you could possibly provide a list of books and or/links that i could read about the nine hells? š i'm so intrigued but so lost idk where to start and where to go lol. Love your blog btw!
Hi! Thank you so much thsts so sweet!š„°
Hmmm! It depends on what youāre looking for! And I will tell you the Hells has been retconned to (heh) Hell and back so feel to take what lore you like and ignore other bits, DnD is supposed to be fun. The Nine Hells is my current hyper fixation though so I stay reading about it lol. I get a lot of my stuff from everywhere but I can definitely provide some links!:
So books!
Descent into Avernus: This is a great world building book if youāre looking to learn more about Avernus or Zariel, I have this book so I can vouch that itās great. Even not just for world building, the campaign itself is super cool and gives you the option to be EVIL which is so lacking in a lot of RPGs these days.
Chains of Asmodeus: is a great reference for like the entirety of the Hells I havenāt dug through it completely but itās good. Donāt agree with everything but! Take and leave right lolā¦Hereās a little link to it free online and a bunch of other DnD assets for freeeee :3
The Godborn: Iām holding off on ordering this to have in my own collection bc the Twilight Wars comes first but my friend let me go through theres and for characterization of Mephistopheles this book itās great. This is a novel different than the two books above which are more DnD adventures just so you know.
Twilight War Series: These I havenāt read but follows Magadon Kest who is Raphaelās brother, I ordered Shadowbred since Iām about to finish Homeland and Iāll let you guys know if itās any good! But Iām very excited about starting this series. These are novels.
Brimstone Angels: I have mixed feelings about these but I have used sections of it for reference, good stuff for kinda of conceptualizing cambion behavior. Itās a bitā¦idk. Itās not always to my tastes but it is a good book to paw through if youāre looking for cambion stuff specifically. These are novels.
Websites:
Idk if linking these will work but these are scans from a dungeon master issue a friend sent me about Archdevil Glasyaās killing of her mother, service to Mammon and rise to powerā¦.lots of great details about Asmodeus, Bensozia and Glasyaās family dynamic too.
Hells layers details! Great stuff and great art, of course Iāve set it to Cania bc duh but thereās a lot of stuff there.
Itās lacking its barebones but itāll give you your base lore on characters, canāt knock it bc we need it. And it does have a lot of stuff.
For Meph specifically ^ DMs talking shop about Mephās characterization, itās funny and I agree with a lot of their interpretations. This is a sillier one though.
Some Baalphegor lore bc Iām miss Baalphegorās number one fan!!!!! Not enough about herā¦my missing babyGIRL!!!!
Video Games:
Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark: Some of the stuff in this is as crazy to me as Raphy ruling over all the Hells but I do like Mephistophelesās characterization in this sooooo!!!! I watched a playthrough and if you want Meph mannerisms for writing and stuff I think this game is clutch. His voice in it isā¦hot. š¤
I hope some of these point you in lore directions you like and gives you some interesting threads to follow! The Hells are vast and Iām still learning a lot. I love it though. Yay Hells :D

Hi, @gogandmagog. You have commented on my posts before and they were all very nice. Now I want to ask you this. Wikipedia says the following about Anne and Gilbert in AOTI:
At the beginning of the novel, Anne and Gilbert, looking forward to a "splendid four years at Redmond" wander around to the Haunted Wood, to taste the "delicious apples" where "under tawny skin was white, white flesh, faintly veined with red; and besides their own proper apple taste, they had a certain wild, delightful tang".[4]:ā70āĀ The Canadian scholar Elizabeth Waterson noted the "erotic" overtones to the scene of the apple tasting in the Haunted Wood, as sign of Anne's attraction to Gilbert of which she herself is not entirely aware.
I did not read the comment of the academic mentioned, so I did not understand exactly what the erotic implication was. If you know, could you please explain?
Thank you for the ask, my friend! This was really interesting to read over, and although I also have notĀ first-hand seenĀ or read the article/essay being referenced here... I do think Iām (kind of?) fairly familiar with the concept that might be being brought forward here. And while I donāt think the language by itself is overtly erotic, I do think when we couple it with the underlying themes of Anne and Gilbertās developing relationship in Anne of the Island, it actually does lean that way, all things considered.Ā Ā To begin with, let's consider the existing apple symbolism that is already huge in the text and subtext of Anne and Gilbertās relationship. If we backtrack to Anne of Green Gables, directly after theĀ slate incident, Gilbert tries to make peace with Anne by first offering her a pink heart-shaped āyou are sweetā candy (š©·) that later makesĀ way for the pink enamel heart necklace of equal infamy, but secondly... with an apple. And not just any regular apple either, but a āfamousā Blythe exclusive strawberry-apple.Ā

Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery
Anne, though decently enticed, outright rejects Gilbertās apple, and in so doing, also pointedly rejects the relationship (friendship at this point, theyāre just little guys respectively aged 11 and 13 here) with him thatās being offeredĀ with it.
Bearing even just this one single apple-incident in mind, when we return to Anne of the Island, and the passage in question, we rejoin a Gilbert that has managed to become Anneās friend (in true or-die-trying fashion), but wants (is ālooking forā) more, and things begin to take further shape. Ā Ā

Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery
What has Gilbertās pursual of Anne been, if not ābraveā and ādeterminedā? Bravely putting himself out there, again and again, and determined in his persistence, his years-long devotion to her only. Has their relationship not āgrown and flourishedā after āspringing years agoā? Anne no longer rejects the literal apple that Gilbert offers her... they both eat of the fruit, and gladly so... and this tree, embodying their relationship, is now flowering and is āripeā and ready to be gathered. This on the heels of a chapter backwards in this book, where we see Anne (a child no longer, readers are privileged and are ācatching the moment of transformationā from her girlhood into womanhood, also see: Anne and Gilbertās last moment together in Anne of Avonlea, where this transition is underlined) begin to have cheek-burning-and-increasingĀ physical sensations/reactions to Gilbert; this attraction no longer avoidable.

Anne of the Island by L.M. Montgomery
Maud also directly links these wild-apples that Anne and Gilbert experimentally taste together + enjoy (which are btw secret, and presumably known only to them) to the one from the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden. Certainly, she uses āEdenā often enough in many of her books āusually just referring to a great lush and beautiful place or a happiness ā but direct citing of the actual fateful fruit? Not so much. And itās an important distinction. Because the āfatal appleā of Eden meant sinning⦠that āfatal appleā was used to tempt Eve. Itās anything but pure. (Now Iām half-way reluctant to say so, and I promise Iām not trying to invite theological discourse, but it does feel necessary to put it out there for your personal consideration that some Christian denominations will argue that that apple from the Garden of Eden was actually a euphemism for intercourse. Lucy Maud was Presbyterian of course, and for Presbyterianās, Iāve personally seen opinions go both ways. Add in that MontgomeryĀ was a 19th century Presbyterian, married to a Minister, and well, it makes attempting to decipher her thoughts on that particular subjectĀ [and all it might allude to for this passage especially] all the more difficult.)Ā
(Oh and a tiny disclaimer/P.S. that plenty of other apple-related symbolic meaning is assigned to these two throughout the series, including little Joy being laid to rest in a velvet casket lined with āapple blossomā but for now, and in an effort to be even a little bit more concise than usual and also because itās 4:44 am, Iām just shutting up and going to sleeep lol.)Ā

also interesting to note, that at this time (2020) there were actually two projects under Round8, one being lies of P and the other I can only imagine was Bless Unleashed.
some background on working at neowiz and round8 studios in the past. interesting knowledge if you are interested in joining the game development industry in south korea or the gaming industry in general.
mentions BTS (again)
says the process is more important than the end result
less on the development side of things, there was another interview mentioning the devs studying cults and cult mentality, especially surrounding laxasia. I thought that was really interesting and I have to dig it up again, unless I just made it up
some notes on the interviews +
some more interviews I remember reading but have to source -
more interesting development note, it looks like the project being pitched was a Fairytale Soulslike. Choi came on board to direct. Choi and other team members pitched the idea of Pinocchio independently.
[prankster101]
Choi thankful to neowiz for allowing them to do a console game (IGN) and that they had a hard time even finding developers to do a console title in korea in the first place. I remember him referencing this a couple of times but I have to sift through some stuff again.
Re: The confusion surrounding Neowiz/Round8/Team Nough. Round8 is a studio currently signed/owned by Neowiz. Looks like there are actually two teams within Round8, one of them being Team Nough, who were responsible for Lies of P.
Re: the amount of people working on Lies of P, other interviews reference starting with thirty people and ending at around 60. The latest interview (near release) mention that they had currently reached 120. (to update)
So what was interesting/confusing to me about the job postings that came out later that year following the success of LoP was why they didn't just pull team members from within the studio or merge [unless they probably already did]. Unless the game that Choi was referencing in 2020 wasn't Bless Unleashed, the other game under Round8 has been in production since LoP has been in production, and has (seemingly) not been released since LoP has been out.
more on the djmax soundtrack:

they worked on getting a bandoneon, not an accordion, even though it was hard to find, because it was period-accurate.
https://gamerant.com/lies-p-audio-design-djmax-bandoneon/
there is another korean interview somewhere where he mentions having to ask Neowiz for the rights to use the djmax soundtrack. I gotta dig around for it

speedrunning sinners
articles i readed thus far! ive plenty more but alas ive a deadline lol :')
btw i avoided (to the best of my knowledge) the mainstream outlets and sources for commentary and context to avoid any potential bias or bs, if u notice i used a shady or otherwise shit resource linked pls lmk! id be very grateful for any suggestions also :>
--
Ryan Cooglerās "Sinners" is Black history written with lightning
"The power and prolific nature of Black music displayed in "Sinners" is a reminder that Black history didnāt start with our enslavement, but with our majestic and mighty civilizations in Africa, and as we liberated ourselves from our enslavement." im well aware that its due to my own ignorance but i was surprised almost to read that the slavery didnt start on foreign soils but indeed in ones homeland;
the definition as per Amiri Baraka in his bookĀ Blues People (which ill be reading as soon as i can inshallah).
within the blues as a genre im fascinated by how much faith (while forced) plays into the narrative (theres a chapter called afro-christian music and religion so ill get back to it, but from the article:)
was again surprised lol, from what ive heard hemmick mentions religion being used as a tool of oppression, and i think much of the genius of the writing (as its been pointed out by others already) are these parallels, so something for future me to keep in mind ig and reflect on after reading.
--
Sinners: The villains arenāt who you think. The post-credits scene proves it.
aight so straight to the point; i may have misunderstood the tone here but after reading the quoted review i dont think i did & i disagree:
the way i read it at least is that humanising remmick was something negatvie (the review describes him as uncompelling and i havent watched the movie yet or an analysis on him so i dont have an opinion yet. BUTT) yet i couldnt be of a different opinion.
i think its brilliant that this was the direction and backstory taken because if theres anything the world has seen first hand (ill talk more about palestine and the parallels ive drawn in another post maybe) is that being oppressed doesnt immunise you from being the oppressor in another context, and it most certainly does not absolve you of your abuse. this is so important to me and it matters that its been done and shown and said. its there (sure some fans are being weird but that sadly cant be helped lol theres idiots everywhere), and its great.
anyway in the possibility that i am indeed an idiot and thats not the point being made lol it just further backs up my point that yes it makes no fucking sense for a victim of assimilation to do the exact same thing under the pretense of diversity. its brutal and its brilliant.
absolute cinema (heh).
--
Primary Sources: The Black History Hidden in Ryan Coogler's 'Sinners'
ive learnt soso much from this article alone, extremely interesting and in some ways unexpected, for example the humble banjo and by extension bluegrass is deeply rooted in african and black american culture respectively, to quote the article itself:
the more you know!! theres a whole chain reaction that set off the genre as we know it today and its so djfjejdfjdk. i believe its touched on in the movie (delta slim as i understand it is a reference to all the artists and pioneers that contributed and defined the music. also i have a few articles to read abt the blues specifically ill get to em next)
of course one cant talk about the black history lovingly portrayed in sinners and not do the same for the asian and native (choctaw) influence and presence in the narrative, theyre a part of the story as well and ill be reading more to better approach the subject so forgive me until i do (tis 1am already akdejsmndbsna believe me i want to read it all right this second but i refuse to rush it. anyway)
--
Sinners True Story Explained: The Disturbing Memories Behind the Southern Gothic Thriller
i havent watched any interviews or behind the scene/ director cut stuff but its so clear both as stated by the creators and in the final product that this was all a product of love and labour and its such a gift i think to have music as a medium its so powerful and profound and i like to think of it as a character of its own in the movie. yk almost a counter-concept to the ancient evil? potent stuff i love it.
the article is short and sweet, not a review or even synopsis as much as it is an introduction to the premise and promise of the movie (unlike the previous three articles. just as a heads up for yall)

Hi!! I know we havenāt interacted, but Iāve seen a lot of your Alcibiades posts - and Iāve gotta say, Iām very intrigued!! Iāve tried googling around a bit to see what the main sources heās featured in are, but Iāve sort of pulled blank multiple times. Is there any book/essay/anything youād recommend starting with? [[and I love your art btw - youāre so talented, and your effort really shows!! :) ]]
WELL WELL WELL you've come to the right place! First of all, I am so glad that my posts about him made you intrigued! Alcibiades propaganda is the purpose of my life. Anyways.
Here's an earlier post I've made on the topic, with links: https://kebriones.tumblr.com/post/729395530643472384
But I'll elaborate a bit here as well because i have time to kill until i have to go catch my ship to athens!
The "Life of Alcibiades" by Plutarch, available in English online, is a roman-era biography of him. Definitely a good starting point. Many of the anecdotes inside are to be taken with a grain of salt since this was written a few centuries after Alcibiades' death, but it paints a very complete image of his life
Thucydides. Alcibiades features at the final part of his work, and I don't recommend you go read Thucydides unless you're obsession levels of interested in Alcibiades. But he is our most objective and most reliable source on Alcibiades. He had known him and had lived through the events he writes about.
Plato is another very important source, though more literary rather than purely historical. He also personally knew Alcibiades, and Alcibiades features in multiple of his dialogues including most importantly the symposium and the first Alcibiades
These are the three Main sources on him, but there are many others like Xenophon, some orations and writings from others, contemporaries, or people from a few years after his death, or roman-era authors.
In the post I have linked there's a link to Jacqueline deromilly's book on Alcibiades, which is my favorite modern biography of him, though I've heard very good things about other biographies too, which I haven't personally read yet and can't comment on
I recommend staying away from other modern sources like podcasts, youtube videos and articles about him. There's a lot of misunderstandings and misconceptions about Alcibiades that keep getting propagated, so i definitely recommend starting with the ancient sources like Plutarch and plato, and with that basis moving onwards if you want.
There's a lot of mentions of him here and there in all sorts of ancient texts, just the other day I came across an anecdote i had never seen before in my 2 years of obsessively researching him, so it's definitely a very fun and rich rabbit hole to go down into!

hi, have you ever read "normal dimensions of multiple personality without amnesia"? i really have no idea how to read these kinds of things but i'm super interested in them, and from my very lacking understanding of it, i thought it might be some validity for endogenic plurality? but again- i really don't understand these things so i'm probably misunderstanding. so! i was wondering if you had any thoughts on it, and perhaps could explain it in simpler terms for those of us who haven't learnt to read these things :)
Hello! Yes, I have unfortunately read that article. It is a fakeclaiming, ableist abomination, in my opinion.
A summary of my thoughts: The authors of the piece, in an attempt to "prove endogenic plurality," suggest that DID is fake, that those who have DID just "gave themselves" the trauma, and that the only pathologic part of DID is the amnesia those systems face. It uses the Fantasy Model (a version of the False Memory Model, wherein people just Fantasize their trauma) to fakeclaim a diagnosed system from a case study.
I wrote an entire debunk of the article over on my alternative blog.
I am disgusted by the researchers of this article, and I'm glad you sought out someone to explain a bit more. If you don't want to slog through that full link, I can give a bit more analysis below (rather than the liveblogging I need to do to get through articles such as that one, since I also struggle with dissecting medical literature!)
TW below for fakeclaiming of both systemhood and multiple types of trauma (sexual, physical, neglectful, etc)
The authors base their study on the idea that children experience shifting personality in adolescence, and argue that this is non-pathological. This is widely accepted! Someone shifting personality traits as they grow up is absolutely not the same as DID. The authors go on to argue that the amnesia criteria was added in the DSM-4, and go further to argue that so-labeled "high-functioning MPD systems" could actually be "totally normal people with multiple personalities with no amnesia."
(Note: "totally normal people" is a lovely touch of ableism, as if people with DID are not normal, and totally normal high-functioning systems without amnesia already have a label. OSDD.)
The methods of this study are so minimally described that I fear my 6th grade students produce better lab reports in their science classes. A survey made by the researchers wherein only one subjective personal response on their own criteria indicates dissociative identity disorder, because it 'totally correlates to the DES, trust us guys'. The sampling is even shorter and negligent to the point of feeling purposeful.
Part of the way through the article, they shift their hypothesis. In the start of the essay, they set out to prove that multiplicity without amnesia is a normal experience and that trauma is what causes amnesia. Here, they change the hypothesis to be a bit reversed; that multiplicity is normal, and in DID, amnesia is imposed upon an already functional multiple system. If your red flags have not raised yet for the fakeclaiming, they should be up now.
Especially because, yep, they go on to fakeclaim a case study, Frieda. This individual was diagnosed with DID. This article claims that most traumatized people do not dissociate (with no source for this claim, particularly because the claim is batshit), and that "fantasizers" like Frieda (you know, a woman with severe trauma) just... imagine their feelings to be fully fragmented parts!
It seems to be that they try to argue that these imagined parts are what every system experiences, and people get amnesia if they imagine they should (as seen by their accusations of Frieda's fantasizing).
BTW: Frieda was orphaned as a child, raised in orphanages where she was abused, neglected, and without proper food and shelter, and then molested by soldiers in the war she was living through. The article skips almost all of her traumatic childhood and suggests that, after being raped (while the original case study states "molested"), she gained amnesia for the event, which made her imaginary friend into a disorder.
So... yeah! There you have it folks: all systems are just made up, and DID/OSDD is caused when those systems (who are making it all up) actually experience something that causes amnesia!
#I hope this article burns!#:)#beauty and poison go hand in hand#normal dimensions of multiple personality without amnesia#fakeclaiming#tw sa mention#tw fakeclaiming#sa mention#syscourse#debunking

here's an article with more info about bompastor and abily if you wanna read it. If there's anything that doesn't translate well you can always ask btw. I feel like it's sadder than the other one because they hid it for sooo long and I feel like they still feel a lot of shame about it https://archive.ph/gjjWW Also the age difference at the start of their relationship is a bit meh
thanks for the link! it was very interesting but totally agree with you that it seems like they had a lot of shame and lack of acceptance and still do to some degree. but it's also good to read stories like that cause that's the reality for a lot of people, also the other one where they mentioned sonia's family more - unfortunately those things have a big effect on us

fact-checking sucks, btw. it takes so much time. when i saw this post about the tiktok ban, i was like, shit! god, they would do something like this, this is horrifying! and then i had that little niggling voice inside my head asking why i haven't heard about any of this before now. would the news media i've been following really not bring this up? it's true that the tiktok thing is the one most of their readers are concerned with, so maybe, but that seems really odd. maybe i should look into that.
so i click on the link in the original post and read through the bill. and i'm pretty sure the classification at the top of the page means this bill isn't the one that passed into law. but i read through it anyway, and it seems like the post got a few things wrongāi don't see anything about a secretary of communication? but maybe i'm not parsing the legalese correctly. and maybe they used text from this in the final version, like it changed titles in reconciliation but the substance is still there.
so then I start looking for news articles. all the news articles are just talking about the tiktok ban, as though there are no other impacts of this bill. could it be that there really are no other impacts? yeah! but could it also be that the media is just focusing on the part that their readership base is focusing on? slightly less likely, but also yeah. then I find the NPR article where it says that there are no legal consequences for individuals for circumventing the ban on their own. that directly contradicts part of what the original twitter thread said. seems almost conclusive, but i'm not totally sure yet, there's still some doubt.
(this right here is the point in the process where I think to check the timestamps on the post, btw. and THAT makes the doubt even smaller)
so i start googling to find the text of the bill that did pass. this takes several tries. actually, i have to find the name of the bill in the wikipedia article and then google the name of the bill and congress's website to get it. and then i navigate through the 1k page document it's a part of, because of course this was part of an omnibus bill. and that text seemingly has VERY LITTLE to do with what that twitter thread is mentioning. almost nothing, actually. they both mention the word tiktok but that's it.
and NOW i feel comfortable saying that twitter thread is unequivocally not true, and got some of the facts wrong. this whole process took me at least an hour and a half. and the whole reason I did it was because i'm familiar enough with the legislative process and the news media to know when something feels off, and furthermore, familiar enough with those things to then find the information.
anyone with an internet connection could do what i did! but thinking to do it, and having the time and the interest to do it, and knowing where to look and who to trust, that specific confluence of factors is rarer than anyone would like.
all this to say, fact-checking sucks. it's helpful, and we've just got to do it, but it's oftentimes a tedious time-suck, which is why most people (myself included a lot of the time) don't go through the whole process.

New to the fandom here š Though there was no one since the show aired so long ago but I'm really glad to find a really active bob fandom after my holidays re-watch. So I saw that you are one of the main Speirs blogs around and I'm curious to know what do you think about the controversy about him (the veteran) and Ambrose? I've read that they didn't get along really well and that affects how he was portrayed in the show.
Really love your edits btw āŗļø
Oh hello there!! Welcome to our fandom!!! Hope you can find some more people, the fandom is pretty much active you can always find something new in the tags. It's kinda funny you mentioned the holiday's re-watch because I'm pretty sure I've saw many people saying the same, I think it's a tradition at this point!!
About Ambrose.... I'm not very fond of how he approaches his subjects, I know that it's not a popular opinion because, after all, we only have the show because of his book. His work still have an important role and function when we talk about keeping memories, keeping the history alive, introducing new people to WWII etc, etc, etc but.....
I'll put a read more cut here to avoid flooding other people's dashboard
BUT I find how he actually did (or didn't) research the themes and stories quite problematic. As someone who spent 4 years doing researchs, learning about scientific methods, writing articles, producing scientific papers I found his lack of fact checking, the way he conduced some interviews with the actual veterans (you can find some transcripts all over the internet and I can also link you to some blogs), lack of source materials, articles, other researchers views and many more topics really appalling?
Don't get me wrong, but he was an historian, a professor??? Of course mistakes happen, but I do wonder how on earth could he get so many facts, dates, names, places, etc so wrong???? Not no mention the cases of plagiarism found in his works (f.e his Eisenhower book where he supposed faked a whole interview lmao) and how biased some of his views were, specially towards you know USA war crimes.
Anyway, about Ronald Speirs (the veteran), yeah I think it affected how we saw him portrayed, for a start Matthew Settle couldn't speak to the guys as some other actors did like Guarnere, Winters and many others had. If you are interested in more about him I highly recommend you to read Fierce Valor by Dorr & Frederick because they did an amazing job with actual research about Speirs and everything surrounding him. I wrote this series about my reading experience in Jess Reads Fierce Valor. I do understand the guy was no approachable at all and even if Ambrose has conducted things differently we could still have like zero infos and collabs because he was really NOT interested to have his story told, he was afraid he could face trials for what he did or he could get in danger or put his family in danger because of the scum aka neo-nazi/fascist rising during the 90's and 00's.
SO SORRY FOR THE RANT AND ENDLESS TALKING I'M NOT EVEN SURE IF I DID ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AFTER MY MELTDOWN šššš

talk shop tuesday! love your dnd character designs! wishing you good luck dming out there o7
as for a question: where did you get your inspiration for these characters and setting? what else are you excited about this one-shot?
Vry I love you so much I've been dying to talk to someone about my d&d characters for ages!! Thank u for the opportunity!!
As for the question: I get inspiration from super random little things and other characters I love. Like with my first character, Venetia, I knew I needed her to have a rapier bc L&co was always on my mind lol.
Tipper was inspired by three things: Carol Peletier from Walking Dead, a particular asmr rp I watched two weeks ago (I can link it in the comment section if someone's interested btw) and Critical Role's Pike Trickfoot, who sparked a love for smol but fierce characters in me
Marlowe on the other hand is partially based on Viv from book I'm currently reading, Legends and Lattes. I wanted to go for a gentle giant type, but less sweet and helpful, more akward and antisocial. Also, in my national language it's practically impossible to do cool accents, so I've been thinking a lot about ways to make roleplaying her more fun and the character herself more distinct, and so her stuttering came up. I'm really excited to be able to get in character this much!
I've wanted to do some pirate stuff ever since google recommended me a random article about Grace O'Malley, a pirate queen. I was super hyped for pirates ever since and I just had to go with it. Luckily, it felt like a natural progression of my party's story, since last time they interacted and eventually helped a lost triton prince. I decided to use that opportunity and make a whole one-shot set on the sea. Me becoming a dm was very random too btw. I've been obsessed with d&d for months but my og party never has time to get together these days. So I introduced my other friend group to it, but they are too incompetent to get any of the rules right lol and I at least had the basics. So I decided to walk them through it step by step, and eventually became their forever dm I guess

VoicePlay Visuals - what I got wrong (and other cool BTS stuff) (part 1/3)
So for those of you who still are unaware, I'm currently a member of VoicePlay's Patreon (and Geoff's too) (just for a few months), and I've been having an absolutely great time so far, especially in now having access to Behind-The-Scenes (BTS) content of each of VoicePlay's videos!
However, as I was whizzing through the BTS stuff, I was thinking about my VoicePlay Visuals posts, and about some things I said that weren't entirely true - whether I said something I believed to be correct that wasn't, or whether I simply made a wrong guess. I wanted to share my newfound knowledge with all of you (which is fine btw, people share this sorta stuff in the comments section of reaction videos all the time), but I didn't want to go back and edit a bunch of posts or reblog a bunch of them to add addendums, so I thought I'd do a sort of "addendum compilation" instead! (In three parts, just to keep these not too long). I'll also share some stuff where my guess was right, and additional interesting things I didn't originally know/notice. And you don't have to read a bunch of my previous VoicePlay Visuals posts before reading this (and I won't be mentioning every single post/video anyway), but if you wanna find the original posts I refer to, they're linked in each title.
Part 1 below the cut!
This Is Halloween: "I don't really have anything to say about J's full transformation, but it would be unfair of me to not include him as well, and it's definitely a very impressive costume. Almost like one of those rubbery fully-covering-the-head costume mask things, but like it's his actual face?" - I was pretty close! For the "full Wolfman" look, J was wearing a special prostethic face/mask thing, specially sculpted to fit his face, with just his mouth/chin area left uncovered! - Additionally, Eli's fake chin prostethic thing actually also goes up and over his cheeks, making them look puffier and making them look puffier and "blending" it all together more effectively. - And bonus fun fact: It was apparently Earl who carved all those pumpkins, except for like one that was done by Geoff š
Bang!: - Found out what leopard-print article of clothing Layne was wearing! His belt is leopard-print, apparently! (Okay, I can't actually take credit for this one, someone in the comments of the BTS pointed it out and I took their word for it as I forgot to look myself, lol) - The place they filmed the video really did have all those cool backdrops, and so many more, split between two large rooms! - J was the one who got to throw the giant rubber duck at Layne š
Butter: "Geoff is looking at his phone, Layne is taking selfies on his phone!" - Not quite! They were both filming! (At one point in the video anyway). The footage they took got included in the BTS video, it's great š - Also the reason the height difference between Layne and Eli in the group shots doesn't look quite as stark as in something like the Wicked Medley is because here Eli was standing on a short wooden box or something like that, not even kidding š
Halo Theme: "Those shoes are definitely cool. Who was wearing them, I wonder?" - It was Scott! - Also when that blue pulsating light thing landed on Scott's shoulder in the video (the "red team! blue team!" bit), there was actually a blue light being shone on him from the side to get the proper lighting effect. - (Also did you know that Rek Dunn (whom the video is dedicated to) used to help film some of the BTS content? I realised when I was watching the BTS for the Panic Medley that he was the one holding the camera and talking to the guys for some of the clips)
Wicked Medley: "Love the giant clock backdrop, very cool" - Yeah, turns out the whole background is one giant flat backdrop, and it took like 4 hours to full set up! Man!
"I adore Emoni and Rachel's makeup looks in this one." - The makeup looks even better in natural light! - All VoicePlay videos are filmed after the audio of the covers has been fully recorded/completed, obviously, duh. Often the vocallists will be properly singing at least some of their parts during videoshoots, but the audio all gets dubbed over for the final product. Rachel was purely lip-syncing in this video, because she had lost her voice! Thankfully/obviously it happened after she had finished recording her vocals, but she still did a great job of making it look "realistic" in the actual video.
The Dragonborn Comes: "Apparently what Cesar is wearing is like legit chainmail or something and was fairly heavy. Go big or go home I guess?" - Yep, it weighed 20 pounds apparently (approximately 9 kilograms). In between takes, Cesar would often just lie down on the floor on his back to try and rest/not have to feel so much of the weight, rip - The metal-looking gloves were real as well - they came coated in some sort of anti-rust oil that had to be wiped off prior to filming - And yeah Layne's hair really was a vibrant blue - I'm guessing Rick did it with coloured hairspray or something.

Hello everybody! Today, we have... a bit of a doozy! Earlier this week, an article and advertisement was put up for Redscapes face reveal! Here's the link: [Link]
However... As we all know, the entire thing turned out to be a lie! :( Yesterday, around 7pm EST, a crowd of around 50 people were gathered near a stage, in which the famous motorcyclist Redscapes would appear. However, as he arrived on stage... There were whispers of him being... different.
That's right, folks! We had an all out imposter among us! (Sorry, couldn't resist! AHEM-) Now, for the Redscapes freaks out there, we all know that Redscaoes is 5'7" (or 170cm), however, the man that stepped up was at the very least 6'0"! Also, waaay too beefy, and not at all like our beloved Redscapes!
Ah, but we should really get to the interesting parts... Ahem! The Redscapes impersonator, now dubbed "Redsonator", or "Wrongscapes", was shown up by the real, in-the-flesh Redscapes! Our inside man who actually showed up has a video and a few photos here: [Link]
Redscapes revved up his engine, then carefully but majestically sauntered over to Wrongscapes. The tension was high, with many confused. It was clear, THIS was our Redscapes! From what I saw in the video, it seemed as though Redscapes challenged Wrongscapes to a race (however, no footage nor photos of the alleged race have surfaced)
All 50 members of the crowd were disappointed at the scam, but many were relieved, as well! Wrongscapes had a cocky aura to him, and I, personally, would've decked him for messing with our beloved Redscapes' reputation.
That's all, folks! Geez, what an exciting day!

hello!! I am that anon from the water ask! (also the same anon who wanted to burrow into the ground, actually!) (sorry in advance for all the links by the wayā¦! i cannot send images through anon orz)
I personally havenāt done a lot of reading on whatever happened to the Mausoleum and its ashes in the later centuries, but from what Iāve seen, the main theory (though only a theoryā¦.) is destruction by the Visigothsā¦unfortunately no one (Iāve read) seems to have a super clear idea of what happened! Mostly due to an absence of concrete evidence (But if I come across anything more solid in future I will send it your way!)
OH that bit from Suetonius! Even before looking it up I was guessing whether it would be the Sunbathing Baby anecdote hahaā¦..and ashfjfkl your sun-moon idea of the statues in the Pantheon is brilliantā¦
On the Pantheon, I also think itās really interesting that it was built right opposite the Mausoleum of Augustusā¦.(on one hand there is definitely the imperial image-making component but)ā¦there is some sort of connection to be made (in Vibes *waves hands around due to lack of words*) between the invitation to enshrine someone in the heavens, and the material/mortal assurance of setting someoneās ashes in a place to rest for eternity (perhaps?) next to where youāll be in futureā¦

OH YOURE SO RIGHT. thank you for the agrippas! (agrippas? agrippae? agrippi?) the cologne city hall ones are so silly...... they are just standing there......... the medieval one is cool as shit also. agrippa in full armour!!!! unstoppable (more than he already was, anyway-)
yesyes the article was awesome!! in exchange i offer this one, which i have been thinking about a lot. he was pliny's blorbo... (it also talks about his 'excessive servitude' to augustus - i've seen that phrase translated a lot of different ways but excessive servitude is. yyheah. yeah. owie.)
